The Naschmarkt is a must-see when you are in Vienna. It is a colorful and buzzing place offering you the flavors of the world. It is a perfect place to buy consumable souvenirs, have a snack, lunch, dinner or all 3 of them or just enjoy the atmosphere while sipping your white wine spritzer.

The Schlossquadrat is in walking distance and offers you a variety of different restaurants in a charming setting. You can choose from SILBERWIRT (typical Austrian cuisine), TRATTORIA MARGARETA (as you might guessed an Italian pizzeria), CAFE CUADRO (daily breakfast until 4pm) and GREGELY'S (this one is all about steaks).

It's a different kind of place, off the tourist track, a favorite with the locals and also close to the apartment. They offer a small but daily new menu including vegetarian and vegan dishes.

This place has been well kept secret for many years which I am now willing to share with you: Senhor Vinho - probably the best Portuguese restaurant in town with a remarkable selection of wine. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is delicious. It's maybe a bit more expansive than my other recommendations but totally worth it if you want to have a nice dinner with great atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation!

A lively array of restaurants, cafés and bars make this museum district even more attractive. My favorites: Cafe Leopold, Corbaci and Halle.

This is one of my favorite bars...It's a fun place with a great view. It's on top of the 25h hotel. And while you are there check out their other restaurants: Ribelli (antipasti dishes and Neapolitan-style pizzas) and Buger de Villes (vending from a cult American Airstream, Burger de Ville adds a laid-back summer oasis).

Swing kitchen is a burger joint but for vegans. Here are some other vegan places too: Simply Raw Bakery - cute little place with mouth watering sweets, also great place to have brunch (but not sundays !!) Karma Food - they offer very delicious food at super affordable prices. You can find them 3 times in Vienna (1st, 2nd and 7th district) and they also offer a small selection of non vegan food :) Tian - "All the meals are carefully prepared, and are a experience for the the taste buds and eyes. Guests are able to choose between four, six or eight course menus, which utilize ingredients from the restaurant’s own garden."(Source: theculturetrip.com) It's definitely pricey BUT so worth it, even as non-vegetarian/vegan. I went there once and I can still remember it as being a full evening entertainment (you have to go for the course menu). It is really special! They also have a Bistro - not so expansive but also not so special.

"Schönbrunn Palace was the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers, located in Hietzing, Vienna. The 1,441-room Rococo palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. Since the mid-1950s it has been a major tourist attraction." (Source: Wikipedia) Honestly even if you don't feel like visiting another museum, just going there and have walk around in the gardens on a sunny day is lovely way to spend your time. I highly recommend to go there with children, they get to dress up as knights and princesses while visiting the children museum.

If you came to Vienna in winter time, or to be more precise mid November and end of December, you have to visit, experience and enjoy the vast variety of Christmas markets that Vienna has to offer. Here is a small selection (in no specific order): Rathausplatz - this one is for sure the most famous one but by far not the best. Am Hof & Freyung - right in the heart of the first district, perfect place to stop by for a Glühwein after some historical sightseeing Schönbrunn - you couldn't ask for a better backdrop than the majestic castle Karlsplatz - offers a diverse children's program and above all handicrafts to buy. Spittelberg - close to the busy shopping street Mariahilferstrasse, hidden in the little winding streets. Museums Quartier - It's not your typical christmas market, offering DJ sets on special days and in general catering to a more younger vibrant crowd.

Vienna is all about classical music, right? But let's be honest classical music can get a little boring. But not here at the Haus der Musik (the house of music): you can learn all about the Vienna Philharmonic and the all-stars like Mozart, Beethoven & Co BUT it's also fun and interactive. You can explore the origin of sound and play an active role in a virtual opera.

I am not a big museum expert, but this one is by far my favorite one. Unfortunately I am not the only one so in peak seasons and on weekends it can get quite crowded. If you decide to go I'd recommend you to buy the tickets online just to avoid any waiting time.

Neighborhoods

If you want to see a different side of Vienna and get like a country vibe you should definitely make your way to Grinzing: Enjoy the incredible atmosphere of an old wine village, try the delicious local wine and home-cooked fresh food in a traditional Heurigen and admire the breath-taking scenery.

The 7th district also called Neubau (but also the neighboring 6th district) are very "hip" (not to sound too old). But what I mean by that is very other month a new bar, cafe or restaurant is opening up. Lots of young professionals like to meet there for after-work drinks ... Explore the area around Neubaugasse, Kirchengasse, Burggasse, Spittelberg

I am sure it is already on your to-do or rather to-see list. But I wanted to mention it anyways. Kärntner Straße is the shopping street that links the famous Opera House at the one end and the gigantic St. Stephen Cathedral (St. Stephan's Dom) on the other end. Close by and really hard to miss, is also the Graben (another pedestrian shopping street) and Kohlmarkt (with all the very expensive designer stores).

If you are looking for a mix of vintage pieces and stylish wearables, this place has it all and it even serves coffee!! It has quite an impressive location with very high ceilings and a shabby design theme, which makes the clothes stand out from the whole interior.

I love food, but what I love even more is FREE food. At Tastery you can taste all of their products for free. And if you like what you tasted you can buy it. Or if your undecided have a drink or snack in their own cafe where they serve bowls, wraps and sandwiches.
