Neighborhoods

Agonda is a great spot for sunbathing, relaxing and swimming, with still relatively few tourists. Agonda is a nice long pristine stretch of beach. Agonda Beach basically has one long road parallel to the beach line, most rooms and bungalows for rent are located either between them or on the opposite side of the road. In the center of the beach, there is Agonda Church and even a local school.

The beach is lined with trees and hills, especially in the north and south. There is nature all around. There are some rocky outcrops in the middle. The beach is actually divided into two parts – North Cola, and South Cola, with a small hill separating the two. North Cola beach is 800 meters long, while South Cola at 145 meters is much smaller. There is a small river (khola) that creates a lagoon in the northern side, which is why Cola beach is often referred to as Khola beach. The river and its lagoon gives Cola beach a unique landscape, different from most other beaches in Goa. There are very few hotels and accommodation options here, and only a few beach shacks, keeping Cola’s serenity intact. With so few tourists, the beach is always very clean. The water too is pristinely beautiful.

The sacred water reservoir, Netravati Bubbling lake is a part of the Gopinath Temple. The astonishing fact about the lake is that it has clean water which keeps on bubbling at different points and bubbles even more if someone starts clapping. The priest who resides there believes that it will create the same bubbling effect if you start enchanting “Om” however, these are just mythological stories and the real fact is it bubbles due to the presence of limestone, carbon dioxide or methane in water. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most interesting places to visit in South Goa. It is a great source of bewilderment and has serene environs where one can rediscover oneself. The massive temple has a huge pedestal in the center of the lake and is frequented by the devotees of Shiva. It exhibits an intrinsic style of pillars carved by the Kadamba-Shilahara craftsmen.
