Great coffee, free wifi, chilled place to work during the day. They've just started opening for evening events, Emma and Kolade next door often host Jazz/Art/Foodie events there. Ask them for info... and tickets!

This is the best bakery in Cape Town, they sell bread to all the best cafes and restaurants. Hard to find, bring cash. Open from 5am to 1pm, 7 days a week. It's between the building supply shop and the art supply shop, go down the alleyway, take a right, up the ramp to your left, and ring the door bell. Go early if you can. Very little stock on Saturdays as they decamp to The Biscuit Mill market.

The Book Lounge is a great independent book shop in town. There's a cafe and wifi. They often have book launches in the early evening - it's a great way to experience the local literary scene.

This is very eclectic and off the beaten track. There's a lovely cafe with indoor and outdoor seating with a large outdoor play area for the children. You can ride horses here, it's not expensive and the horses are very well cared for. For rainy days with the family go to The Play Shed, the children play and the adults have coffee and cake. Behind the primary school there's an organic farm shop - you'll have to ask directions. There's also a wood yard if you run out of firewood, it's where we get our wood.

Local supermarket, not a particularly nice one, but pretty well stocked. If you're not in a rush go to the PicknPay in Rondebosch, or the large one in Claremont. There is a Woolworths in Mowbray, smaller but nicer than this shop.
