Hudson is often referred to as the Brooklyn of the Hudson Valley, but it has so much more to offer (although if you’re looking for that Brooklyn vibe, you can definitely find it here). Great shopping, dining, antiquing, and vibing. (35 min drive from house)

Nature

The first thing that greets you upon entering the park is an old red barn, which attests to the land’s centuries-long incarnation as a farm. Today, a profusion of wildflowers bloom in the former pastures, attracting dragonflies, butterflies, and birds — and humans eager for close-up connections with nature and the outstanding vistas of the far-off Berkshire Mountains that inspired the park’s name. The trail gradually descends to the Hudson shoreline, affording superb views up- and downriver. It’s not hard to see why Scenic Hudson protected this land1886 River Rd New Baltimore, NY 12192 (12 min drive)

Named to tell mariners that they were midway between Hudson and Coxsackie, Four-Mile Point Park offers an astonishing variety of outdoor adventures considering its size. An observation platform invites inspection of Vosburgh Swamp, home to many birds and amphibians. Grand Hudson River views await those who reach a bluff-top overlook. And the walk is all downhill to the park’s pièce de résistance — the river itself, where a fishing pole, a kayak or a picnic would come in handy, but none are necessary to savor the scenic splendor. Free and open year-round, sunrise to sunset. (20 min drive)
