Our local beach.... great for surf, sandcastles and long walks - 5 plus miles of it... set off early to get a parking space without the queue, or go down in the late afternoon when everyone else is leaving... that's what the locals do.

Beautiful, reclaimed marsh, packed with wildlife, leading to lovely sandy beaches with a walk to the distant Saunton beach. This is the local's secret beach!

The secret is out, thanks to social media... this is a secluded, suntrap, local's beach. A site of special scientific interest, the beach is uniquely made of shells that come from the Caribbean, so pack flipflops. You can bbq on the beach (but you may attract snarls from nearby visitors) and there is a great Sri Lankan curry shop on the beach, but take cash as there is no internet and therefore no card reader!

Neighbourhoods

The original Braunton shopping area. No longer, but it is truly beautiful and leads you right to a proper locals bar, The Black Horse where, aside from getting away from crowds, you can get a great, freshly-cooked curry.

A quiet, local's bar that serves excellent, freshly cooked to order (and to your personal taste) curries. Good selection of beers and grumpy old b*ggers who moan about tourists! The original village pub opposite the church.
