Our place is newly built, behind a historic building, only metres from the beautiful Tokomaru Bay Beach. The facilities are all modern, with heat pump/air conditioning, acomodating 4 people with style, comfort and ease. One queen bed is in the lounge as a pull down/retractable and the second in a separate bedroom. Shower and toilet is an ensuite shared by all guests but accessed through the bedroom.
Comfortable, airy, light, modern, warm in winter, cool in summer, so so close to such a beautiful beach, with a colourful garden to relax beside.
Our place at Tokomaru Beach is only metres from this pristine East Coast Beach, a fabulous new children's playground, and a short walk from a fully stocked if small, supermarket, gas station, excellent fish and chips, along with a stunning new cafe. There is also the local Tavern, a 'Must Visit' for relaxed dinners, coffee on the deck overlooking the bay, and more. All of these amenities are easily reached by a stunning stroll along the beach, or making use of the brand new paved footpaths around town, or the wide grass walk ways. Tokomaru Beach itself is one of New Zealands great coastal ( secret) treasures - 5km or so of white sand walking, listening to the surf, excellent swimming in the waves and/or the beach lagoons for little ones, fishing and surfing ( reef) for those looking for more.
  • A fantastic place to stay. An amazingly well appointed Airbnb, especially in the kitchen with a microwave/convection oven and an induction plate. The beach is right across the road, and you could walk on the sand to get to the local tavern! Barry and Pam were great hosts and we were sorry to leave.

    Anthony2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Barry’s place was as described, with the added bonus of being able to hear and see the sea from the lounge. We ate out at the tavern, so didn’t use the cooking facilities but the kitchen was extremely well equipped. There was milk, butter and jam in the fridge, bread in the freezer and eggs for breakfast which was appreciated. The kitchen, lounge, diner was very spacious. The shower was hot and powerful. There was a friendly cat around, and the notes mentioned blocking off the cat flap if you aren’t cat people. Sky sports on the TV meant I could watch England beat Wales which was very enjoyable

  • Such a nice spot, everything you need is there, home away from home.

  • We had a lovely stay at Barry’s place! You just can’t beat the location- we had a tonne of fun at the beach which is just steps the from the property! The place was beautifully decorated and had everything you you needed. Thanx so much for hosting us!

  • It’s nice to know you can expect everything that is displayed on airbnb.

    Lee2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet respite behind the main house with the beach and sea across the road. One of the last sandy beaches (if coming from Gisborne as I did) before you get to Whakatane.

    Tracey2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great location across from the beach. Spacious, clean and comfortable.

  • Meagan’s place is a little gem, located just across the road from a delightful beach. With a very comfortable bed, the apartment has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Great place to watch the sunset

    Graham & Jane2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for one night as part of a trip around the East Cape. Meagan’s place is far enough from Opotiki to feel the trip has started - but is within a comfortable day’s drive of Tolaga Bay and beyond. It was lovely to sit on the deck with a cuppa and listen to the waves. Her directions were excellent.

Stranded in Paradise guesthouse is a Lonely Planet top pick with a 5star TripAdvisor rating. There is a large covered outside deck directly from the living areas to view the horizon and stunning views. The grounds are well planted and there are lots of birdlife. It is situated in the small coastal town of Tokomaru Bay, 1 hour from Gisborne. The town has a pub on the beach, a café and a four square supermarket with petrol and ATM. Half hour drive to Cooks Cove Walkway and Mt Hikurangi.
Two types of loft rooms are available. One has three single beds on a mezzanine floor (marae or Japanese style on the ground) with a balcony off it. The other if this is booked is a 2 bed loft. You can see the sunrise from here. Either can be booked as a share room or as a twin.
  • Outstanding view and hospitality. Advertised as eco I didn't know what to expect-- but it has all the full amenities lights power showers, the works in a beautiful handcrafted lodge- lots of wood- is new and sparkling clean but also has rustic character. Loved my loft bed and the cabin. And lots of space for guests to have privacy. Angus went out of his way to fix the mudflap on my car and Leeanne to let me know local spots. Also learned some history of the area. A unique corner of NZ with gorgeous beach. Highly recommended. And I like the community.

  • A fantastic place to stay one or a few nights on your trip around the cape.

    Björn2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The location and view is stunning. Waking up to the sunrise over the ocean was amazing. The kitchen facilities were great and spotless. A pleasure to cook in. Angus and Leanne were very welcoming, and gave us lots of great advice on the local sights and facilities in town as well as what we should do heading up the coast. We had a great day around East Cape thanks to them. A lovely place to stay.

    Grant2020-02-06T00:00:00Z

  • I’m a full on northern california hippie, so this place was my ideal stay. If you’re into being eco friendly at all, you’ll love it as well. The space is cozy and inviting, and Leanne and Angus are very sweet. Totally would come back.

  • Fantastic location with the beach across the road. The sunsets were lovely. We had a problem with WiFi access. When I reported it Meagan responded immediately to help resolve it. We would be happy to stay again.

  • Fantastic location, cute and comfortable apartment, responsive host and great value.

    Lois2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Coming from busy and hectic Auckland, this location was worth the travel. A great place to base yourself while exploring neighbouring historic highlights and attractions. Also, the beach across the road is unbeatable. Meagan is a professional and although she is based off site she will make sure you have contact and support if needed. Our family really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location.

    Petivia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pros: The location of the house is good, the sea is across the road, the house is beautiful, the Meagen is friendly and the response is timely. Next time I want to book a room upstairs, the upstairs facilities are updated to have a more beautiful view, and a large terrace.

    Amy2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was an awesome spot. The beach across the road was awesome, pitty the swell was too rough for decent fishing while I was there but with calm seas would be awesome. It would be a great beach with young children too. The part that we stayed in was lovely. The kitchen mat tripped us up abit so maybe look at a new one or something to stick it down? Otherwise it was an excellent place to stay and I would definitely stay again.

He has a lovely Lab called Xena too, who was VERY happy to see us. Incredible value for larger groups, probably perfect for stag do's, fishing trips, and the like.

Set in wilderness with a back drop of New Zealand native bush sits Lottin Point Motel. With 19 units to choose from, options are boundless. Prices range from $140 for the base units to $160 - for Travelers downstairs Units Fishermen have their own space with fishing table for cleaning fish, bait freezer & walkway to the fishing grounds beneath the Motel. Great place to unwind. Licensed dining room serving home style dinner, lunch & tea The way NZ was once - simple & uncomplicated
Considered well off the beaten track, the region doesn't receive as many international tourists as other parts of New Zealand. Those that make it here come for hunting, fishing or the lush bush walks and solitude - usually without swarms of people. It is a place where outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a retreat will feel at home.
Safe farming area. Lots of native NZ bush. Pohutakawa from December through to late January, extensive Manuka flowers from November through to the end of Summer. Expansive walks around the coast for those who are physically fit. Kayaks available to Patrons for a small fee. Note subject to conditions
  • If you are driving around East Cape make the trip easy and delightful. Stop for a night at Lottin Point. You'll be glad you did.

This is a fully insulated new build. The secure and lockable windows and doors are double glazed. The doors open out to a country view of hills, and farm animals. It’s very cosy, it's private, warm in winter, cool in summer, and surrounded by nature. We live on the land, and are happy to chat to our guests, or leave them to chill out if that’s what they prefer.
Guests enter the bathrooms past the house, by the side door to the main house (Kaingarua), the washing machine, ironing board and iron are in the hallway for your use. As the beds of the Chalet are covered with extra thick rubber mattress liners, for comfort, electric blankets must not be used. Wool blankets and heater are supplied.
The Te Puka Pub is great for a latte, and a hot meal. I reccommend the battered fish. We have a store (Four Square) We run our own seaglass gallery, there is another gallery with a variety of art, just a two minute drive down the road, and another down by the wharf. Just a few hundred metres away for essentials, at a reasonable price. We have a beautiful bay, quiet beach, horses, and friendly locals.
  • I didn't stay at this location myself but booked it for family members. They all enjoyed their stay and appreciated the privacy and friendly host. Also, great communication, especially as it was a rather short notice booking.

  • Located just a small walk to the beach, this stay is the perfect little getaway. The room itself is incredibly clean and tidy and surprisingly warm for a room with large windows over looking the garden. It is really modern and stylish but has a comfortable, rustic feel to it. The "kitchen" area is stocked with every thing that you need for a short stay plus extra. It is East-Coast-Hospitality at its finest and the hosts have done a really good job with the place. We also appreciated their efforts in making their place sustainable and environmentally friendly. We rate this place 10/10 and would highly recommend this for anyone wanting an authentic Bay experience.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Rohatai's little sleep out. It was super clean and comfy and she and her husband were so welcoming and helpful. I loved the opportunity to do a little star gazing in the night when I made a quick trip in to use the bio loo! We also enjoyed the breakfast provided while we sat out on the lawn and watched the horse and sheep grazing. All in all a great experience.

  • Jan's place is a nice wee cabin with everything you need to enjoy some time away on the east coast of nz. Her hospitality was amazing when she even made us her special sashimi with some fish we caught and allowed us to use her filletting station. Thanks Jan

  • The cabin was in a perfect location to fish out of Waihau Bay. It was suited to 1-2- guests and had everything that was needed. Our host was helpful, handy while remaining discrete. Recommended as an excellent place to stay.

    Sue2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and tidy. Quick communication responses. All amenities needed within a little cabin with great sea views.

    Elaine2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, self contained cabin that is directly across from the water on one of the most beautiful stretches of New Zealand's coastline. Perfectly situated between a lovely sandy beach and rocky Waihau Bay, providing an ideal base for walking, fishing, swimming and star gazing - or just a wonderfully remote get-away. Janice provided good communication and was an extremely helpful and generous host. We look forward to visiting again next time we need to escape the rat-race.

Come to paradise to a home away from home, with all the amenities of a full kitchen, and comforts of two lounging areas. The bedroom has a king sized bed for two, and in the second lounge area are two single sofa beds. Electric blankets on all beds during winter.
You have exclusive use of the deck, living, dining, kitchen and bedroom areas. The hallway door to the shared bathroom and toilet is locked for your privacy.
our beach is five minutes walk, the local grocery store is the same walk, and we have the famous tokomaru wharf which if your walking will take you about 1 hour. Our local pub is great for an evening meal, and the view over the bay is breathtaking. A five minute walk can get you to Cafe 35, they produce a great latte, and the famous paua pie.
  • What a delightful and well provisioned AB&B. It was spacious, clean and self contained and an ideal stopping place on the east cape tour. Rohatai and Pine were there to welcome us on arrival and were friendly and communicative throughout our short stay. We enjoyed chatting with them and hearing about their plans for the future. They certainly went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable and this was appreciated.

  • Rohatai is a warm and welcoming host who went the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable during our stay. The house itself is modern, spacious and eco friendly as they recycle all waste water and have an eco toilet. It is also well located just a short walk from local cafes and the beach. Rohatai also runs a small gallery on the property which is worth checking out! Would love to stay again :)

A self-contained, secluded & comfortable open plan studio which has a view of the Pacific Ocean. Nestled among native NZ trees, Aruhe provides the perfect getaway experience. SH35 from Opotiki to Gisborne is stunningly beautiful and rarely visited by tourists. When booking, please take note that the price for two people is for two sharing a bed. if you would like a separate bed, please book for 3
Whanarua Bay is 25 minutes drive from the nearest store and over an hour from the nearest supermarket. Included in the rental, and for short term stays, a selection of breakfast items are provided for you to prepare at your own convenience. The kitchen pantry holds most basic ingredients and the kitchen is well equipped. A gas BBQ is available for your use. Two restaurants, each in the opposite direction, will take 30 mins to reach along SH35. There is one King-sized bed and the base price is for 1 or 2 people sharing one bed. The sofa bed can be made up as a double bed or two singles and whilst this is fine for short stays, it is not ideal for longer ones.
The Bay, a 10 minute walk away, is the most gorgeous on the coast and is safe for swimming, diving, fishing and kayaking. Just down the road, Pacific Macadamias operates a cafe selling fresh coffee and macadamia sweet treats over the Summer. The bays either side of Whanarua are also worth exploring as is the church at Raukokore. There is also an unguided walk through the bush to a fabulous, and very chilly, waterfall. For the adventurous there is a walk to the top of the hill behind ARUHE which can be muddy and slippery in Winter. ARUHE night skies, free of light pollution, are crystal clear and wonderful for star gazing. The climate here is sub-tropical, so no frosts in the Winter.
  • Kim welcomes us into her beautiful cottage. Her fast replies and accurate directions were spot on. The extra touches made our weekend getaway that much more special! We will be back! The location perfect!!

  • What a glorious spot to stop for the evening. Relaxing and peaceful. As mentioned in other reviews; well stocked pantry and we appreciated the fruit bowl. There are a couple of walks mentioned in the information pack in the cottage, that allows for some evening (daylight hours) adventuring. A particular treasure are the 1985 Listeners for a bit of nostalgia. Thanks Kim 😊

We are located close to East Cape lighthouse, the beach, family-friendly activities. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. There are a range of activities to see and do while staying in this part of the East Cape. This includes nearby bush and farm walking tracks, beaches to wander along including a safe, sandy, swimming beach - Onepoto Bay - below us. Opportunities for leisure fishing at at our door step. Cottage available from 1 night hire or more.

Guests have the entire house at their disposable. We provide continental breakfast. The Post Office is a one minute walk to our long and expansive beach. You’ll love our Poutapeta for its history, spaciousness and comfort. It is relaxing and unspoilt. Nau mai, haramai!
Te Poutapeta has 3 bedrooms; the Postmaster's Office, the Mail Sorting Room and the Mail Clerk's Office. There are two bathrooms each with a shower and toilet. There is a fully outfitted kitchen and dining room located towards the back of the Post Office.
Tokomaru Bay was once a thriving community of 5000 people, now there are about 300 residents, 90% Maori and we have a long and interesting history. However, the best part for me was seeing Bill & Jan again & experiencing their incredible hospitality. It's north facing, catches the sun all day, and all year long, and yes, Sea Views. This one bedroom home with king bed, also has two single beds in a chalet/sleep out. for more guests, two single chairs in the lounge fold out to comfortable single beds. All beds in the house have electric blankets during winter. As the beds of the Chalet are covered with extra thick rubber mattress liners, for comfort, electric blankets must not be used. Wool blankets and heater are supplied.
We are only a 5 minute stroll from the beach, 100 metres from the local food store and about 200 metres from the local cafe. We have a vegetable garden and fruit trees. We have a horse who enjoys a carrot or two. You are welcome to use the bikes to pop out to the shop , or just cruise from one end of the bay to the other. It's all here for you. Although we live and work on the land of the accommodation, you have exclusive use of the house, decking, and land directly in front of the deck. We won't disturb you, and if you need anything, we'll be happy to help out, you can text us, or just pop into the artstudio/home in the garage, or look over the paddock, I might be with the horse, or in the vege garden. Happy to help.
Our town is quiet in the winter and bustling during the christmas and new year break. One can indulge themselves with dinners at the Te Puka Bar, Lunch at the local fish n chip shop, or a paua pie in Cafe35. Walking the beach, biking the bay, riding horses, kayaking, swimming and fishing are all popular pasttimes here. It's a simple town with simple amenities, which is a very attractive feature to most.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Rohatai’s place. The house is immaculately clean, spacious and comfortable. A gem of a beach is a few minutes walk away. Rohatai is a warm, welcoming and thoughtful host. We slept incredibly well in the king sized bed after watching a film on Netflix which was all inclusive. A highlight for me was making tea from the fresh herbs, which included lemongrass, from Rohatai’s lovely garden. Much love has gone into her house and garden, which provided a very relaxing, enjoyable stay.

  • Cool little bach in an amazing location. The house itself is a classic older kiwi bach. Would easily sleep 6 and has heaps of parking. It has a great deck that looks out across the bay and catches sun all afternoon. It is directly across the road from the beach. The road is pretty quiet and the house is set a little bit back so traffic noise was never an issue. The beach is quiet and beautiful. The host was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly. Overall, would definitely recommend staying.

  • Amazing view, great for wheelchair users too!

  • Will always remember the amazing views over Waihau Bay from this house. Totally stunning. Nice large spaces/ great kitchen / fabulous indoor and outdoor dining spaces which made for a great family holiday. Lower bunk rooms /carpeted area with table opened straight out into the garaging which has a great fish bait station. Bush to Bay has great communication and the house was very clean. Enjoyed our stay here.

    Claire2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location and set up with stunning views of Waihau bay.

    Antoinette2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Waihau Bay - great location - the house and views were amazing and the kitchen was well stocked. Communication with the property manager was really good – she called us a couple of days prior to confirm the booking and provided some local knowledge. The pub had good meals and reasonably priced. The convenience store has the basic groceries but no fruit or vegetables that we could see. If you are staying for a couple of day make sure you stock up on food in Opotiki, Tokomaru Four Square or Gisborne. Just to note: - the house is located at the top of the hill overlooking the bay – it is a bit of a hike down to the local pub and convenience store – easier to drive.

Largely untouched by development, there are no high-rise or fast food outlets here - simply pristine ocean, clean rivers, back country beef and sheep stations, clear waterfalls, a region steeped in history. It is a haven for those seeking peace, rest and relaxation as well as a playground for active adventurers, and a fisherman's dream. The temperate climate make it a perfect year round holiday destination.
  • Stunning views, beautiful location, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. We were blessed with good weather so experienced Oceanside at its best. Walking along the lovely, almost empty beach in full sun and finding only our own foot prints on our return was magical. The deck was a superb place to spend a relaxing day and just gaze out to sea. Just what we needed after a few weeks of being on the move and sight-seeing. As noted in other reviews, stock up on groceries before you arrive as the local camp shop and the Bay store have a limited range of food. The people in the bar and restaurant at Waihau Bay were friendly and helpful and the bottle store (a window at the rear of the bar) was useful for replenishing our dwindling wine and beer supplies! Can’t say the same for the camp store where entering the shop before they were open was met by a foul mouthed ‘request’ to come back later. I didn’t. Communication with Meagan was very easy and friendly responses were received promptly.

  • Great place to stay - especially for a family. Very spacious, well equipped and a great location. The bed was a bit too firm though. Bring all your groceries with you as dining out isn’t that great. Not much choice so you wouldn’t want to do it every night if there longer than a couple of nights or so.

Stranded in Paradise guesthouse is a Lonely Planet top pick with a 5star Trip Advisor rating. Our loft rooms, family room and cabins all have sea views. This place is good for multiple couples, families and big groups.
This funky Lodge is a great space to chill out on the East Coast. It is on a large elevated site and has commanding views of the bay. Please note our toilets are commercial composting Eco loos.
You will need your own vehicle. An hour drive from Gisborne, half an hour to Cooks Cove Walkway, hour and half to East Cape lighthouse
  • Very quirky ecolodge, with lovely view. It is an eco lodge but we loved it.

  • Leanne and her husband were very kind. We checked in later and decided to drive up to the East Cape lighthouse for the sunrise the next morning, but our short stay was wonderful. The house was even cooler than expected and most of the beds have a view of the sunrise. I slept in one of the lofts and had a view of the stars and would’ve woken up to the sunrise over the water if we had stayed longer. I would return here in a heartbeat.

    Amanda2018-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in Tokomaru Bay. Leanne is very friendly and accommodating and the place was just as we expected, no nasty surprises. It's in a great location, just a short walk to the beach and to the dairy. Thanks heaps!

Set in a back drop of New Zealand native bush sits Lottin Point Motel. The motel looks out to the Cape Runaway to the left and Lottin Point to the right, offering the most spectacular vista. With 19 units to choose from, options are boundless. Prices range from $140 for the base units to $200 for 2 people in the Travelers upstairs units. Fishermen have their own space with fishing table for cleaning fish, bait freezer and a walkway to the fishing grounds beneath the Motel.
Considered well off the beaten track, the region doesn't receive as many international tourists as other parts of New Zealand. Those that make it here are here for hunting, fishing or the lush bush walks and solitude - usually without swarms of people.
  • Such a magical spot on the coast! The rooms were very clean and the hospitality was quality. Loved the dinner

  • Great place to stop to break your trip around east cape. Bring something for the kids and young adults to do, as no tv in the room, especially if raining. Beautiful front yard / lawn to sit and take in the views.

  • Marija is very helpful and friendly. We particularly enjoyed eating from the restaurant, with Marija bringing the great lamb shanks and steak to us outside, while enjoying the stunning view of the water.

  • The location of this motel right on the edge of the east cape couldn't be better. So peaceful and beautiful! We enjoyed a wonderful walk down into the bay and out to Lottin Point which gave us fantastic views. The food (fish) and company added the cherry on top of our stay as we toured the east cape road and we'll definitely stop again next time we do this scenic break!

Te Poutapeta is a Historic Places Trust listed building. Up until the 1980s it served as the community Post Office. Our family run it as a B&B or Holiday House but do not live on site. Guests will have the Mail Sorting bedroom.
The lounge and dining room is huge with comfortable furnishings, a piano (belonging to the host's great-grandmother), tv, library and games. There is a fully outfitted kitchen and dining room located towards the back of the Post Office.
Tokomaru Bay was once a thriving community of 5000 people, now there are about 300 residents, 90% Maori and we have a long and interesting history. There is a well stocked Four Square supermarket, a tavern overlooking the sea which is a great place for dinner, 4 marae, a craft shop and soon to be opening cafe and fish & chip shop.
