  • Most welcoming couple. Everything was as described on the web. Kitchen has everything you need and was clean and tidy. House was cosy and warm. The steps to the front door are not a problem as there is level access to the rear. It was actually nice to forego a TV for a few days 😊. Will definitely return.

    Terence(‘Terry’)2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent. Very happy with our time here. Very accommodating hosts, even went through the effort to bake us a loaf of bread before we arrived! Property is very clean, beds very comfortable, area nice and quiet. Would definitely stay again.

Characterful, cosy and quirky late 17th century weaver's cottage situated in the suburb of Fartown approximately 1.4 miles from Huddersfield town centre and train station. There are excellent links from the train station to Manchester airport, Leeds, York and London via Wakefield. Bus stops are close by (for Huddersfield and Bradford) and there is easy access to the M62 (approximately 2 miles away).
The small cottage is full of character, with an interior that's a fusion of vintage, retro, industrial, rustic and country cottage elements. The main space is the cosy kitchen/living room (approx 5 metres x 3 metres in size). The kitchen section has a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, smoothie maker, single induction hob and small oven. The simple living room has two comfortable leather armchairs, coffee table, and electric heater. The upstairs bedroom (approx 3 x 3metres in size) contains one double bed, an electric heater in the bedroom, hanging space for clothes, and a wall-mounted 40 inch television with main freeview channels in HD. The new bathroom suite has an electric shower. There is NO WiFi in the cottage. Outside the cottage is a private/fenced garden with outdoor table and two chairs, that guests are welcome to use. There is an adjoining cottage next door (it is currently unoccupied, but there could be workmen on site at times doing work renovating it). The cottage accommodate 1-2 guests due to its size. Although situated in a fairly busy urban area, the cottage is set back from the road which gives it a more removed and secluded feeling and usually its pretty quiet. Guest access Guests are welcome to arrive from 3pm onwards and the departure time is by 11.am. Other things to note Please be aware that there is no Wi-Fi in the cottage. There will be a selection of foodstuffs available (in the fridge and on the shelves) for the preparation of breakfast, which could include the following: bread, butter, breakfast cereals, various spreads, filter coffee and tea. Although the cottage is Andy's home, on occasions he may need to call by for various reasons, but would let you know in advance. Whenever possible, guests will be greeted by Andy, otherwise guests can use the key safe for self check-in from 3pm onwards.
Within a short walking distance away is a post office, bakery, chemist, launderette, general store, takeaways and restaurants. There's also a choice of supermarkets in the area including Asda, Aldi, Sainsburys and Tesco.
  • Very cute cottage, really enjoyable stay. Perfect if you're looking for some time to yourself to read or listen to music. It is a very small place, so be prepared for that, but it adds to the charm. If the weather had been better this week, I would have been able to enjoy the garden area a bit more. Recommended for spring / summer months. The accommodation was very cute, and I had a great time there. It is the perfect place if you want to spend a little time alone. The house is quite small but this adds to its charm. In spring / summer it would be an ideal place.

  • Perfect, a country hidaway in the city

    Steve2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Nest is a really cosy, clean and comfortable place to stay. A place to relax in as soon as you walk through the door. Andrew provides all you need (plus some very thoughtful extras) to ensure a great stay. We will definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone looking to visit this area.

    Jo2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • As they say...’Good things come in small packages’! I arrived late and walked up the side path. At first I wasn’t sure as the house next door looked run down , HOWEVER , don’t be put off as you realise it’s having a facelift , the builders are in progress updating. So once in it’s a safe little nest .. As a woman on my own, with dog, it was ideal. All small details thought of for your furry friend too. Everything explained very clearly re heating , all simple to use .. fridge had a choice of milks ( very thoughtful) and all very clean..the bed is extremely comfortable... and the best thing for me, I had no WiFi so peace and quiet .... a great excuse. Andrew responded quickly to any question . Yes I would recommend . Thank you Andrew.

    Lucy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • It's a real cosy 'nest ', extremely clean and relaxing .we would happily return one day

    Stefanos2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Andy's place is beautiful. It's a perfect place to relax as a couple and their dog. The decor is fab and the amenities great. Loved the touches for breakfast!

    Abbie2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated cosy little place. The host Andy was very generous with the amenities available, everything you would want for a short stay and was there.

    Abby2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is adorable and beautiful with lovely comfy facilities and lots of personal touches for the guests who stay there. Andrew was easy to get a hold of while being very welcoming and answered every question even providing good places nearby to eat or bus and train options for those who need it. Would easily recommend this place as it was nice location and lovely accommodation and hosting.

NHS staff see below for details. Eider cottage is a listed weavers cottage tucked away behind the church in the very centre of this quaint village. Retaining many original features including mullion stone Windows, kitchen floor, steps, beams, floorboards and inglenook. It has a private secluded hot tub for an additional cost. Exclusive use of the owners private heated indoor swimming pool, spa bath and sauna is also available for an additional charge, subject to availability.
This three storey listed weavers cottage retains many of the original features including mullion windows, a wonderful stone inglenook fireplace, York stone flagged floor in the kitchen and stone steps. It has views over the village and up to the surrounding countryside and moors of the Peak District national park. With Holme Moss viewpoint visible from the hot tub (optional charges apply see below). The master bedroom has a sumptuous super king size bed, but no space for storage, only a chair and two bedside tables, the wardrobe and the chest of drawers and dressing table are on the landing. The double bedroom is very tight with only room for the bed, one bedside table and a plant stand with a bedside light on it, there is only a very narrow gap to get around the bed to the far side under the window. When the weather is good the garden has two terraces with a table and chairs to take advantage of the view and an outside oven and BBQ on request for a small additional cost, this must be requested in advance. The very large kitchen is equipped with a range cooker, retro fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer, microwave, toaster and kettle. There is a large kitchen table and chairs. It has a traditional Belfast sink and a solid oak work surface - they are old so they are not perfect, but spotlessly clean and we think add character. The sitting room has a log burning stove, comfortable classic sofa, two Ekorness Stressless leather chairs and a smart TV and Blu-Ray DVD player. The large bathroom has a vintage suite with a deep roll top bath and a rain shower within a separate cubicle. There is a large storage/drying room off the kitchen suitable for walking boots, cycles and prams. Swimming pool There is also the option (additional charges apply) for exclusive use of the owners private indoor swimming pool. The pool is heated between 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. It is 8mx5m (26’3”x16’5”) and has a 2m deep end. The swimming pool is located in a converted barn and has views out over the owners field to the Peak District moors beyond. In the swimming pool room there is also an indoor spa bath. In the adjacent changing room there is also a sauna - if guests hire the pool, both are also available for £5 and £10 respectively if the swimming pool is booked. Guests of Your Yorkshire Time - Holmfirth Hot-tub Heaven (Eider, Mallard, Shelduck & Teal) can book the pool for their exclusive use for 75 minutes for the discounted rate of £30, or £60 for two hours 30 minutes. The swimming pool is situated at your hosts own home, 8 miles south of Holmfirth. The drive from Holmfirth to the swimming pool provides spectacular views of the Peak District. There are separate house rules for the swimming pool. Use of the pool is subject to availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment. To do so send an Airbnb message with your preferred time/s and dates.
Holmfirth is a quirky village, as woderfully showcased in the TV series Last of the Summer Wine. It is ideal for hikers and cyclists, but also for people who want to wander its quaint streets and enjoy the market and numerous shops, pubs and restaurants and other attractions. There is also a live music venue - the Picturedrome. The centre of the village is a two minute walk down steep steps and cobbles from the cottage. The walks can be accessed right from the door. Holme Moss, the steepest climb on the Yorkshire section of the Tour de France is a short cyle ride away. The river running through the village always has lots of ducks to feed and there is the famous annual Holmfirth Duck race and many annual festivals including the Festival of Folk, Arts Festival, the Food and Drink Festival and several beer festivals.
  • Lovely place and lots of thoughtful touches that made for a wonderful weekend - the hot tub and log fire were a special love thank you Angela

    Tracey2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

    David2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay again at Angela's place. A delightful 3 storey weavers cottage at an amazing location in Holmfirth. Very cosy and well appointed.

    Ruth2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for exploring Holmfirth! Beautiful, cosy cottage to relax in. Hot tub and log burner really made our stay. Great welcome basket and Angela was very helpful from the moment we arrived.

    James2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay at Eider cottage, Angela was very accomodating of my last minute request to stay. The cottage is larger than the pictures make it appear. Location is perfect, short walk in to the centre of town down picturesque narrow steps and alleys. Great place to stay to explore the north of the peak district. Angela had left various essentials and treats in the kitchen and the property has lots of books and leaflets on what to do in the local area. Hot tub was a lovely way to relax in the evening after long walks on the moors. Thoroughly recommend

    Gabriella2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant weekend at Angela's place - it is immaculate and Angela is a brilliant host who was there to welcome us on arrival and show us around the cottage. The cottage is in a fab location - right in the village so easy to get to restaurants, bars and shops. Overall a great find - we would definitely recommend!

    Eleanor2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a great stay we had at Eider Cottage! Angela's place was clean, tidy, cosy, and had the most lovely welcome touches. We were greeted with a generous food and drinks hamper on arrival and a smile! Any questions/queries Angela was very responsive and helpful. The location was tranquil in the quiet village of Holmfirth and only a short walking distance from shops, cafes, and takeaways. The hot tub area was shared and private and was the perfect relaxation spot! I'd definitely return.

  • A super find!! Jerome and Pippa’s cottage is so lovely and they provided us with everything we could need. Travelling up from Cornwall and arriving at 10pm to a warm, cosy place was just what we both needed. We requested logs for the fire but the cottage is so warm we only lit the fire being the romantics that we are!! We definitely hope to return ~ Holmfirth is a really welcoming town in a beautiful area of W Yorkshire. Thank you!

The Sanctuary flat is part of Westwood Christian Centre, a 19th century church converted into flats.
Beautiful stained glass window, oak panelled ceiling; full central heating. Ideally for 1 -2 people but can take up to 3 (1 double bed settee, 1 single chair futon). Large studio flat on 3 levels within original Sanctuary of Westwood. - kitchen and dining area; main living area & upper level; separate bathroom (with a bath).
We're set in a lovely little community up on a hill, overlooking the village of Slaithwaite.
  • This was the perfect place for a tranquil weekend. Great location, value for money, and has everything you need. The kitchen is simple but had everything necessary to cook all my meals. There were no spices/seasoning so remember to bring your own. I couldn’t find a chopping board or good knife - but I’m sure Nikki would have responded if I felt I needed these! The bed was big and very comfortable. Will be coming back again in the future!

  • I highly recommend this place. Everything was exactly as described, including the wonderful views and scenery! Checking in was very straightforward, and the room is large, warm and very clean. The Lookout is part of Westwood Christian Centre - a 19th century church building converted into beautiful self-contained flats. The moment you walk into The Lookout - after you have caught your breath from the incredible views over the Colne Valley -- you will notice the beautifully retained features of the church building. Spacious and high-ceilinged, the Lookout studio flat is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, or people needing to get away from it all.
The Lookout provides self-catering accommodation with a well-equipped kitchen. The main living & dining area features two beautiful clear glazed arched windows; lovely views to South West and North West and as well as central heating, there is a gas fireplace - which you are more than welcome to use. There is also access to a washer, dryer and iron in a separate utility room in the building which we can make available to you upon request. We have awe-inspiring landscapes on our doorstep, and we are nestled in the Pennine hills surrounded by rambling walks and stunning views. Located in Bolster Moor, you can discover what neighbouring Yorkshire villages (Golcar, Scapegoat Hill, Slaithwaite) have to offer. We intentionally don't have any televisions in the flats, however, we do have WiFi and 4G if you do need to catch up with the world.
We're set in a lovely little community up on a hill, overlooking the village of Slaithwaite.
  • We had an all round 5* stay here at Westwood. Even in the rain and storms The Lookout provided spectacular views of West Yorkshire and it was a warm, calm and spacious place to retreat to. Ellie was always on hand if we needed anything and made us feel very welcome. We’ll definitely be back!

    Samantha2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for being such great hosts. The view was incredible and the layout and furnishings within the main space were also top notch. If I am ever over this way again, I would be delighted to stay here again.

    Emily2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Such a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful place. The kitchen is very well appointed and the flat is airy and spacious. Loved being ensconsed in a 19th century church, its structure being beautifully preserved. Old narrow roads made it somewhat challenging to navigate the short distance to town, but that comes with the territory. The hosts/wardens are wonderful, warm, and helpful.

    Marty2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic overnight stay here, the views are amazing. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

    David George2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Superb place - lovely surroundings, good furnishings, spotlessly clean and great value for money. I met Jake on my arrival and he was really helpful and pointed out a few places to go in the local area. The location itself is great - amazing views and only a short drive to nice local town/shops. Incredibly peaceful atmosphere, and the quality of the apartment itself is great in both furnishings and cleanliness, especially when you consider the price. Would definitely come back, thank you.

    Cameron2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay once again. Such great value for money and that view is just so dreamy. ( the bed also heavenly) I will keep coming back!

  • Photos do not do the peace, quiet & sense of calm justice. I would recommend a stay, just prepare to be lost in a world of peace & quiet. Amazing views & a local farmers market that is brilliant & provides everything you need (including great advice)

Welcome to my home, a beautiful 200 year old weavers cottage. Located in the rural village of Slaithwaite, close to all the amenities. The cottage is full of character with exposed beams, and a warm, welcoming feel to it. It is the perfect getaway destination. Close to fantastic walks and cycle routes, with breathtaking scenery right on your doorstep. Whether it's along the canal or up onto the moors. The village and surrounding areas have many local businesses, bars and restaurants.
The cottage is situated in a quite, green and leafy location, on a quiet road. Built of stone, with exposed beams and a great fire to put your feet up in front of. The cottage mixes old world charm with a modern twist.
The village of Slaithwaite is a short 5 minutes walk to the centre. There are beautiful local shops, antiques, greengrocer's, butchers, cafe's, restaurants and bars, as well as Aldi. There is a scenic walk along the canal to Marsden. The cottage is situated 3 minutes walk from the bus stop, with buses to Marsden and Huddersfield. 15 minute walk to the train station, with trains to Leeds and Manchester.
  • Wonderful place to stay, very clean. Jane was an amazing host and responded really quickly when we had a small issue with the heating. I fully recommend this beautiful cottage, great value for money. Thank you

  • Easy booking and great communication. The cottage was lovely and clean with so many thoughtful touches. We had use of the whole property which is important to us, we like our privacy and this place ticked all the boxes. A welcome letter explained how to use everything and local places which were recommended. Thank you Jane for a lovely stay, much better and cheaper than using a hotel and being stuck in just one room.

  • This house is just beautiful. Deceptively large and welcoming. A great location for local dog walks, homely pubs and shopping. Had such a great relaxing weekend in a beautiful home. The artwork is stunning and such a warm and inviting place. Extra special touches made it feel like we were really welcome.

The room was very clean, the mattress very comfortable and I had everything I needed. Breakfast was absolutely delicious with homemade yoghurt and eggs from the garden included - couldn’t have asked for a better host. Thanks Kevin!

  • The house is lovely, the photos really don’t do it justice. Some great views from its position on the hill. The decoration and fittings are modern and in keeping with the style. We were staying 2 nights for a family get together but planning to stay longer next time. Sally was always prompt with her response, we would definitely recommend staying here.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Swallow’s Nest. It was very welcoming to arrive to fresh bread, butter, jam, milk tea and coffee. The accommodation was perfect, spacious and thoughtfully renovated. The lights that come on automatically when going down the stairs were a nice touch. It is located in a beautiful rural setting in the Pennines. Sally was a wonderful host, very accommodating and easy to deal with. If our travels bring us back to the Pennines we know where we are going to stay. Thank you Sally!!

  • Absolutely lovely place to stay! Just as described, a real home from home. Made our trip to see family in the area so much easier and we loved having a relaxing base to come back to in the evenings and put the children to bed. Everything you might need is provided and we all enjoyed watching the comings and goings on the farm. We will definitely visit again.

  • This cottage is absolutely beautiful inside and out. It's set in the most idyllic countryside but also close enough to slaithwaite village centre should you need anything from the local shops or want to head out for a bite to eat. So peaceful, and a perfect way to start my wedding weekend with my bridesmaids, and end the weekend with my husband. I would highly recommend Swallows Nest to anybody needing a relaxing peaceful retreat. It was so easy to communicate with Sally and she was on hand to answer any questions, although everything was simple enough anyway. A handy book with information about the property and also plenty of leaflets for local businesses such as takeaways, pubs, eateries, local walk routes... Everything! Thanks again Sally for having us stay at your phenomenal property it was simply magical.

A colourful home owned my designer Kate. She loves ceramics and all things mid-century. Her house is located in the centre of the lovely village of Slaithwaite. Perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the Pennine hills surrounded, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs behind the back of the house so great for canal walks too. Local amenities are on your doorstep and trainline running directly to Manchester and Leeds.
This is Kate's home, she currently lovingly decorating room by room (mostly complete). The house is a mid terrace on one of the main streets of Slaithwaite. The guest room is located at the rear with views of the large mill that is currently being restored. There is also views of the canal (mainly winter when the trees have no leaves). The off road car parking is at the rear of the property (available on request). The house has high ceilings and is light and airy. Newly installed bathroom with a great roll top bath and waterfall shower. Kitchen/diner with all amenities, cooker & fridge etc. The guest bedroom (palm leaf wallpaper see photos) has a double bed, TV, full length mirror, hairdryer, towels etc. A sofa bed is also available if needed.
The Co-op 20 metres away, along with bars (Om Is Where the heart is-trip advisor ranking 1st for Huddersfield) round the corner, curry house across the road. The village is bustling with great independent shops and cafes, the greengrocer is a co-operative where you will find local produce, we also have a handmade bakery & brewery. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
  • Kate was a friendly host and helped recommend local places to eat. The space was as advertised, stylish and clean, exactly what was I was looking for.

    Patrick2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Kate is a very nice host, she lets us feel very comfortable in her cozy house. She also shared few things for breakfast! I hope to come back to Slaithwaite soon . Thanks a lot.

Character cottage, dating from the early 1800's with a wealth of original features such as mullion windows, beamed ceilings having views of the Colne Valley and beyond. This grade II listed cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway and/or for walking and cycling (as long as you like hills!). Golcar pronounced "Goker" ("L" is silent in local pronunciation) is a village located on a hillside crest above the Colne Valley in West Yorkshire. It is 3.3 miles away from the Huddersfield town centre.
The Kitchen There is a fully fitted modern kitchen with fridge, washer/Dryer, Dishwasher and Freezer. There is plenty of cutlery, crockery, glassware, utensils etc. There is tea coffee condiments etc. We provide a welcome pack which usually consists of bread, butter, milk , eggs, and cereals. If you are vegan or would prefer something different let us know and we will try to accommodate your preferences. The Lounge There is a spacious lounge with beamed ceiling, stone mullion windows and door surround, pine dining table and chairs, antique ottoman, antique delph (plate) rack, pew in front of the window and corner cabinet. There is a sofa bed and a "smart" TV and speaker/docking station with blue tooth connectivity to stream music. Polished wooden floor, and central heating radiator. The lounge overlooks the south facing paved terraced garden. The Bedroom The bedroom is spacious having a king size bed with quality mattress, pillows and bed linen so that a good nights sleep is assured. The ceiling is beamed and the room has stone mullion windows overlooking the garden There is a monks pew below the window, bed side cabinets and two antique chests of drawers, a corner wardrobe and an additional hanging rail. central heating radiator. The mullioned windows give plenty of light (This is where the weaving would have been done in days gone by) There are views over the garden and valley. The Landing With balustrade, this gives access to the bathroom, very spacious bedroom, and large walk-in storage cupboard which has a vacuum cleaner, iron, ironing board, cleaning materials, spare towels , loo rolls etc. It also provides additional clothes hanging space if required. Beamed ceiling and stone mullioned window. The spacious bathroom with fully tiled floor and walls, having a large corner bath for a luxurious soak, separate shower, heated towel rail washbasin and WC . We provide loo rolls, towels, shampoo etc. Beamed ceiling. The garden This is a south facing sun trap with long distance views and giving a high degree of privacy. It is paved and on four separate levels. We keep it planted up with lots of containers.. There are two separate seating areas with tables and chairs and we have two large parasols for shade when needed. Chill out with a glass of wine. I've seen wild deer on the path that runs down the side of the house and garden. Parking There is free but limited parking on Clay Well and sometimes it can be difficult to find a spot. To help guests I can sometimes leave a car parked opposite the cottage which I move on their arrival. We live approximately 150 yards from the cottage down a steep hill and can also make a parking place available for you there if need be. There is additional parking on the road at the end- Carr Top Lane. There is a free car park in the village centre which is not far from the cottage but up a steep hill. Many of the roads in Golcar are quite narrow so it's best to fold in your wing mirrors. The owners of the large building to the right of the cottage - "Millbarn" have asked that we do not park on their side of the road right outside Millbarn as it can cause an obstruction. I've always tried to respect that so ask guests to as well although it should be OK for unloading/loading luggage.
The Colne Valley is a steep sided valley on the east flank of the Pennine Hills in the English county of West Yorkshire. It takes its name from the River Colne which rises above the town of Marsden and flows eastward along the floor of the valley. The name is generally used to describe that section of the valley of the River Colne that lies between its source and the town of Huddersfield, which lies at the point where the River Holme joins the River Colne. Less often, the name is used to describe the whole valley of the Colne, including the section through Huddersfield and on to the confluence of the Colne with the River Calder at Cooper Bridge. Using the more common definition, the Colne Valley includes the towns and villages of Marsden, Slaithwaite, Linthwaite, Milnsbridge and Golcar. Slaithwaite is a 2 mile walk or short drive along the valley where there are some interesting shops, bars and restaurants. The Colne Valley played a significant role in the development of the Industrial Revolution. Most of the population had been weavers for generations, so when water-powered textile mills were built on the many streams and small rivers in the area, the area was well set to become a major producer of textiles. The River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal provided early transport links which were soon added to by road and railway links to Huddersfield and Leeds to the east and Manchester and Liverpool to the west. By the end of the Second World War, the importance of the Colne Valley as a centre of textile production had begun to decrease. The area is now primarily residential and has excellent transport links. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal was reopened in 2001 and boat trips into Standedge Canal Tunnel are available; the National Trust advertises walks on Marsden Moor Estate; and television programmes such as Last of the Summer Wine and Where the Heart Is have been filmed there.
  • The cottage is just lovely; warm, comfortable, well-equipped, clean and in a great place to explore Huddersfield and the surrounding countryside. The hosts could not have been more accommodating and helpful. There are useful amenities close at hand - a butcher's shop, supermarket and Take Away restaurant just up the road and a choice of pubs. We would certainly recommend Clay Well Cottage and hope to return, ourselves.

  • Incredible stay! A lot of lovely thoughtful touches -including vegan milk and butter and bread and fruit. Robert met me and showed me everything in the cottage. There was everything I could have needed including local walks and menus. Bath is incredible and the whole place is wonderfully cosy. Can't recommend it enough! Thank you!

  • We stayed here for 3 nights, the whole experience was definitely much more than we expected! It is a very unique upside down cottage with a lot of history, very warm, cosy and welcoming. The bath is luxurious and the bed is comfortable. Robert is a great host, he greeted us on arrival and showed us around, and even provided us with vegan milk, butter, bread and fresh fruit for our stay. The electric fireplace is great and really warms up the living room, and Netflix is also provided on the smart TV. We would love to stay here again, we hope to come in the summer and make use of the garden! Thank you for having us. Kasia and Lewis

Tyas Cottage is located in a small hamlet within an idyllic local beauty spot on the site of the first water-powered mill in the Colne Valley, near Slaithwaite and 7 miles from Huddersfield. Tyas Cottage is south facing within the sheltered, wooded valley, Merrydale, and at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac. Tyas Lane is an ancient, cobbled pack-horse route and, apart from the sound of falling water, the property is quiet and rural. Please note that, due to the pandemic we now have a "deep clean" (to government guidance for employers) between bookings and a more flexible cancellation policy. This property is ideal for people wishing to self-isolate.
Our guests seem to particularly enjoy the quiet, secluded, rural location. They often walk up through the woods on the ancient packhorse route that leads to the Rose and Crown with its delicious beer (it is not suitable for the old and infirm).  Also much commented on is our steep, narrow, cobbled access lane. We are happy to ferry guests up and down the hill when there might be snow or ice on the road, but even large ambulances are able to get up and down in normal weather. The cottage is furnished with very special antique furniture, much of it brought over from South Africa. This includes a hand-carved Georgian mahogany 4 poster bed. The gardens contain several sculptural features. The metal pods that hang from a tree next to the millpond are very well used. There is a charging point for electric cars.
Slaithwaite is a vibrant village and definitely "on the up". It is a lovely walk down Merrydale to Slaithwaite (about 25 minutes). The seat of the industrial revolution, the topography of this district is very varied with its tight little valleys in between vast heather-clad moorland. There are loads of varied and interesting walks in the area. Tunnel End could be a destination if one were to walk along the canal from Slaithwaite to Marsden. The Pennine Way is quite near to Tyas Cottage.
  • Tyas cottage is a lovely stay for those who like to walk due to its settings ... Down quite a steep country lane past sign saying road is not passable to vehicles, don't be put off and continue down the lane...

  • We had a wonderful two night stay at Tyas Cottage to visit a friend in Slaithwaite. The cottage is comfortable and full of character. We had a lovely meal at Devour in Holmfirth - highly recommended. I’m sure we’ll be back.

  • The most stunning location and such a beautiful cottage, located a little off the beaten track - which was what we wanted. A little treacherous in wet weather but no complaints from us. Victoria was next door to hand if there was a problem, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful place.

  • Our stay at Tyas cottage was really great. The interior is well thought of and has a uique style that we really enjoyed. The house is very well equipped ans the rooms are big and nice.if you like it a little bit rural and quiet this cottage is perfect for you.

  • Tyas Cottage is beautiful, restful, comfortable and the flowers from the garden a lovely touch. The garden itself is stunning, we wished we could just spend a day there.

  • A stunning location and a well-furnished property. The hosts were very pleasant and welcoming and the house is immaculate. There are lots of local walks or you can just relax in the lovely garden. The beds are very comfortable too!

  • What can be said other 5 STARS. We absolutely loved our stay at Tyas Cottage. It was everything we could have wished for and more. Victoria (the host) answered many questions prior to our visit and even spoke to me before we planned our trip to the UK from Texas. I was a little worried than the 9-seater van we had hired would not fit down the lane since I had read in the description that the lane was narrow and steep. There was nothing to worry about at all and our 9-seater Hyundai van easily navigated down the road to the cottage. Victoria was not only great in terms of communication prior to the visit but also met us when we arrived and gave us a great overview of the area and everything we needed to know about the cottage. With a 2 week stay we really wanted to know that we had chosen the right place for the vacation. We were super happy with our choice and it could not have been a better stay. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and in such an idyllic setting. Our 4 children were in heaven exploring the secret garden and tithe surrounding areas. It was so peaceful and yet also so close to all the things you need. A local grocery store within 5-10 minutes drive and with access to the M62 only 10 minutes away we were so well positioned to visit Manchester, Leeds and beyond. Everything we needed on a long trip away from home was there. We missed Tyas Cottage as soon as had to leave. If we could rate more than 5 stars we would. We highly recommend!

Rest, relax and refresh here at Bethany House! A warm welcome awaits you at our chalet bungalow where guests have the exclusive use of the top floor - a large, bright bedroom, separate bathroom with roll-top bath and walk-in shower, and a small dining/sitting area equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, toaster and a fridge. A complementary continental breakfast is included, consisting of fruit salad, homemade bread, and a range of quality teas, coffee, cereals and preserves.
A cooked breakfast may be available by arrangement, for an additional charge, which is served in our family dining room overlooking the garden. Our property is in a very quiet cul-de-sac with lovely views of the surrounding fields and National Trust moorland, yet is just a few minutes’ stroll from the centre of the vibrant Pennine village of Slaithwaite. The public footpath which runs beside our house gives easy access to a network of glorious walks, and the covered veranda at the rear of our property is a secure place to leave bikes or walking boots. For walkers of the Penine Way, it may be possible for us to collect you by car from the walk's junction with the A62 and return you to the same spot at the end of your stay to continue your walk - we are just a 10 minute drive away. Even though we are so conveniently located for the many shops, restaurants, bars and pubs in the village, the peace and quiet here is usually only disturbed by the sound of sheep, cattle or birds. Please note that the guest accommodation is accessed from the hallway by a fairly narrow wooden staircase, and is located in the converted eaves of the bungalow. This means that there is restricted head height, and tall guests might find that they have to keep to the centre of the rooms or stoop rather a lot!! We have a small cat, Lola, whom guests may encounter during their visit; however, she is shy of strangers and will probably retreat to her favourite place of safety on top of the wardrobe in our bedroom!
Slaithwaite is a thriving village with a vibrant arts and crafts scene, antique shops, independent food stores including a co-operative grocers, and Aldi and Co-Op supermarkets. There is also a well-equipped gym and swimming pool complex which is open to the public. We are on the Trans-Pennine rail network with regular trains to Manchester and Leeds, with connections to York and the East Coast. We are conveniently located for Huddersfield, Oldham and Halifax, and the M62 motorway is approximately 15 minutes’ drive away, providing easy access to many beautiful areas of God’s Own County! Suggestions for days out, local beauty spots and footpath maps may be found in our Information Folder.
  • Staying in Christine's home was certainly one of the most amazing Airbnb experience I've ever had. Her kindness and hospitality were incredible, she made me feel at home and helped me in so many levels. The bedroom and the bathroom were perfectly clean and confortable. The breakfast was so tasty, I loved it. Christine and her husband are very kind and caring. I would recommend anyone to stay in their place !

The breakfast was really first class - homemade bread ,fruit ,yoghurt, Tiptree jam and a great choice of teas and coffee. Christine was very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive.

  • Great place and nice vibe. Felt like at home in my parent's! Hostess is a wonderful Bhutanese lady. She lives with her English husband. She has just started hosting people thru airbnb so she is still figuring out some issues but I felt she was very professional :) Nice room and good location. It's a private room and she let me use her kitchen and some other facilities as well. There's a bus stop in a minute walk which takes you to Huddersfield town, Manchester etc. Just one thing to know that you don't have your private bathroom. Still it's right next to you and I wasn't bothered much. She knew about this issue and is trying to figure out how to change the settings. Overall it was a very nice experience. If you want something more than just a room to stay, I definitely recommend to stay with her. She likes to talk and has lots of interesting stories. She also likes to listen and learn about different cultures. She even cooked me some nice momo and chicken soup at my last day. Definitely recommend!

A lovely double room overlooking woods half a mile from the centre of the market town of Holmfirth. English breakfast included and access to a private lounge with woodburner and door straight out into the garden.
This is a cosy double room with a wooden floor and original cast iron fireplace dating back to the 1880s. The window overlooks the garden, woods and stream beyond and still has the original wooden shutters. The room is quiet and dark at night (no ambient street light). There are old wooden beams, one of which is carved by local artist Mick Kirkby Geddes. Antique, but comfortable double bed with feather topper, chair, chest of drawers, wardrobe and dressing table. The room is part of our house so you will be sharing the main house bathroom, which includes a bath and drencher shower. (We do have other toilet facilities downstairs if there is a logjam!)
Holmfirth is a small market town, tucked into the foothills of the Pennines and about 5 miles from the centre of Huddersfield. The town is well known as the location for the popular TV series ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ and visitors take advantage of the classic Summer Wine tours around the area in a vintage bus. There are many excellent restaurants in Holmfirth (Indian, tapas, Italian, French) and the fabulous Picturedrome (www.picturedrome.net) – home to a range of concerts and tribute bands. Throughout the year there are many festivals - including Holmfirth Festival of Folk (early May); Holmfirth Film Festival (late May); Holmfirth Arts Festival (mid-June); Holmfirth Artweek (early July) and the Festival of Food in September. We are also 30 minutes drive from the award winning Yorkshire Sculpture Park ( www.ysp.co.uk) and 40 minutes from the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield (www.hepworthwakefield.org). The walking is varied and beautiful and it is possible to walk out of the door of our house and straight up into the hills.

Our newly developed property is comprised of a 1 bedroom bungalow with high vaulted ceiling, opening out to a spacious and private outside area which is south facing. Off road parking for two vehicles is available and the distance from neighbours provides a quiet, peaceful and relaxing stay - a home from home. We are in the heart of the Colne Valley, 10 minues drive from the M62, and highly accessible to both Leeds and Manchester, either by road or train.
We offer a newly converted development that has stuck to quality as the key to attracting new and returning visitors. A spacious bedroom and lounge area open out to a grass and patio sun trap. We have off street parking for two vehicles and are ideally located for those wishing to commute to Huddersfield, Leeds or Manchester. For those wanting to relax and soak up the delights of the Yorkshire hills and villages, our bungalow is perfectly situated for travel to one of the many famous tourist attractions in our area.
A stay at The Button Box lands you very close to many well reviewed and highly thought of eating establishments, and we can thoroughly reccommend a walk down the tow path of the canal (see picures) to Slaithwaite, (30mins approx) recently reviewed in The Guardian in a list of the top 10 places to visit. It has many Artisan food outlets and boutique shops, and is a starting place for many a good Pennine Walk. It also has a regular train service to Manchester and as such is an ideal location for commuting. Marsden Jazz Festival attracts 1000's of visitors in October every year and being 15 mins drive from The Button Box is well worth a visit. Those that would like a quieter walk in the hills can enjoy the many views from Scapegoat Hill and beyond of the whole of West Yorkshire. Other more local eateries within waliking distance that we can wholly recommend include The Scapehouse Inn and The Duck and Spoon. The Holme Valley, including of course Holmfirth, Last of the Summer Wine country, is also a great trip out for the day. Take a walk around the Last of the Summer Wine museum, have a cup of tea at the famous Cafe, become acquainted with the beautiful and unique shops, or even catch a gig at the popular Holmfirth Pitcuredrome. Further afield, the delights of Saltaire, together with its famous Mill, Haworth, Hebden Bridge, Skipton and of course access to the breathtaking Yorkshire Dales are all within easy reach.
  • Such a lovely Airbnb, stylish, clean. Really nice place to relax. And lovely touches with complimentary breakfast. We loved our stay! Would thoroughly recommend. Great value and brilliant location. Beautiful valley on your doorstep!

    Miriam2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely and well worth the money with some very thoughtful touches such as the fresh bread on our arrival. The only small issues we had were with the water which was very sensitive, one second it'd be very cold then turning the tap slightly made it too hot, and also arriving in a Land rover down a small poorly maintained road with no much room to reverse park. The hosts are lovely, quick at responding and the place was very clean. It is great value for money and overall I'd definitely recommend it. The bed is also extremely comfy.

  • 2nd visit to this flat which is convenient for the village centre. A long term tenant is moving on soon so this flat may be more available soon and getting a refresh.

  • My girlfriend and I had a magical weekend staying here; cooking, exploring and relaxing together, in a little zen haven. It was just what we needed, a brilliant quiet location and beautiful space that felt like home. We highly recommend it! :)

    Andy2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amy's place was perfect for our needs. We attended a wedding near by and found that the four of us could get ready in the house with ease. The location meant we were only minutes away from the M62 and the venue in Lindley. The kitchen was very well equiped with pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery. The beds were comfy and rooms were clean. The instructions for the house were clear and Amy has been great with communicating details.

    Samuel2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent communication from amy, lovely creative, cosy home, well situated for trips into Huddersfield and beyond.

    Karen2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and stylish space with one of the comfiest sofa beds I've ever slept on! Amy was really responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

    Becky2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very conveniently located for visiting family in Rastrick. It was a cold rainy couple of days and the house was beautifully warm and cosy. Lots of nice touches, including slippers to wear and Netflix on voice command. The Tesco Express opposite was extremely convenient, with a Greggs next to it and a restaurant next door to the house. We appreciated the garden, despite the weather. Communication was great and Amy made it easy for us to get in without any hassle. Thanks for letting us stay!

Our house is in the thriving Pennine village of Slaithwaite close to the station with good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, York and Huddersfield. The Lavender room is very large with a large ensuite bathroom. We also have a single room with its own bathroom.
Very large and comfortable room with very large ensuite bathroom. Access to garden and kitchen as needed. Breakfast provided.
Slaithwaite is a bustling village with some lovely cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants. It has galleries, an art studio, yoga studio and community-owned grocery. It's the only place in England to have s canal running along its high street. It has fabulous views of the surrounding hills and Peak District. There are lots of great walks starting from the village and the Pennine Way passes about two miles away.
  • A fantastic room with a view, a lovely welcoming family we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you x

  • Really friendly hosts, very warm and hospitable. The room is huge and has an amazing view over the hills. Ensuite is lovely. Breakfast was good - cereals and toast, orange juice coffee etc and we enjoyed chatting with the host over breakfast. Recommend!

  • A lovely warm welcome from Carla and her family. the double room is spacious and comfortable with great views.

    Gill2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Carla and Andrew welcomed us into their home as part of the family. We had our own private space but their hospitality meant that we could chat and share stories over breakfast. Having lived in Slaithwaite before it was great to discuss changes and developments. Their home is in a great location to the train station and centre of the village allowing lots of opportunities to explore the local and wider areas. This is a great little spot and we look forward to going back at some point.

  • At Claire cute annex, you can expect nothing but perfection. Claire is a great host and nothing was too much trouble. It was exactly where we wanted to be.The place was spotlessly clean, cosy and the views were wonderful. We will return. Highly recommended

    Jane2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The annex is so beautiful and amazing furnished! Claire is such a thoughtful host, alongside her husband - there was chocolate buttons left for us along side crumpets, milk, pastries ect. The annex was lovely a private, so we could have our alone time. I cannot not emphasise how lovely this was! We was also able to stay longer as there was no one staying there the next night which allowed us to look around Holmfirth. Would 1000% recommend this lovely place to anyone! Thank you so much - chloe and reef x

  • A great place for a stay in Holmfirth and the surrounding area. A fantastic view across the fields of the Holme valley. We only had a short stay but would happily go back for longer. Claire was a great host, she welcomed us and responded quickly to queries, but otherwise left us to our own devices.

    Chris2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place just 5 min walk from central Holmfirth. Amazing views, as well!

  • Very nice stay Lovely apartment

    Ian2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Claire is an excellent host! She was incredibly friendly and helped us with all our requests. Communication was superb! This gorgeous place is a lot more spacious than you think. Claire is so generous and left out pastries, cereal bars, cereal boxes, a small smoothie for our young one and much more! We loved our stay and we'd definitely come back, next time we're in Holmfirth. Thank you so much for having us. Top tip: If you're not an experienced driver / Parker, you're best to park road side, but, if you can handle it, the drive is very convenient and so close to the entrance! Thanks again Claire. This really was one of our best Airbnb stays.

    Magnus2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Claire is an exceptional host and the space is wonderful. Warm, clean and with everything you need including more than enough for a breakfast in the morning. The view from the windows is great and it's a 5 minute walk down the hill into the town. Thoroughly recommended.
