Places to stay in Skibbereen
The Long Barn is an old stone whitewashed barn. It has private entrance and outside space, set in tranquil, leafy and secluded gardens near the end of a long, quiet country lane leading, in a few minutes amble, to a safe and secluded beach. The ambience of the barn is comfort, with cotton sheets, feather pillows and duvets, roaring log fires and comfy chairs. If you like quirky old buildings, with oak beams and thumb-latch doors, rather than a faceless hotel room, then you'll like this place.
Renowned as an artistic retreat, the headland of Reen must be one of the most tranquil spots in Europe, let alone Ireland. You might possibly hear a fishing boat chugging the old trawling grounds off the coast. Otherwise your aural landscape is likely to be limited to birdsong, the wind in the leaves, and the distant crash of surf. It is a remote spot, well off the beaten track, about seven minutes drive to the nearest village. We aim to provide a quiet and peaceful place, an ideal spot for relaxation, unwinding, de-stressing and generally taking a time-out from the frantic pace of modern life.
On The Wild Atlantic Way, Reen headland sits between Glandore and Castlehaven harbours, ideally placed for all sailing, whale watching, sea kayaking and simple swimming (and paddling!) activities. Catch crabs off the pier. Walk in Rineen Woods and see the Fairy Houses. Come to the many festivals, The West Cork Food Festival, the Guitar Festival, the Jazz Festival, to name but a few.
  • We stayed two nights in the long barn. It was exactly what we were after and more. Remote location, 2 minute stroll from a lovely sheltered inlet and 5 minute drive from beautiful Irish village life. Lovely host. Nice and friendly and had left us some freshly baked soda bread and free range eggs to welcome us. A lovely touch. We were there with our 5 year old son and the cottage is perfectly equipped. Good WiFi, a chest of games for the smallies, DVD’s, Netflix on the tv. Just perfect for us. The kitchen had everything you’d need to cook a family meal and the place is spotless. Great shower and comfy beds. Highly recommend it for a quite getaway like we had or a great base to explore the wild Atlantic way.

  • The accommodation of Richard and his family is very pleasant. Located in peace and in full nature, a pebble beach is at the end of the dead end and promises good times. The accommodation is clean and offers all the necessary amenities. We enjoyed the DVDs in the small library ... Richard is welcoming. Perfect !

  • Quaint little cottage in a beautiful rural setting. Few minute’s walk to a small beach, chickens and dogs outside, and lots of peace and quiet. Cozy with the heat on or, for a more rustic experience, the wood burning stove gives good heat and atmosphere. We had a great time. (2 adults, 2 kids under 6).

  • Fabulous gem of a place. Loved staying in the long barn, loved the hens in the morning and our daily visits from Coco and Bailey!

  • Jo was a wonderful host and welcomed us very warmly. The area was lovely and Toby enjoyed the small little nearby beach for running around before bed. We were left fresh eggs from the sweet hens as well as bread, milk, butter, tea and coffee. We had delicious scrambles eggs for breakfast. Thanks again Jo, we would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful stay in a clean, warm home.

  • We had a wonderful time, everything was perfect. We loved the location, the space, the area and our hosts were extremely thoughtful---we only wished we could have stayed longer! Easy communication regarding directions and arrival and a helpful printed document about the long barn itself. Very pleased with everything, many thanks!

  • A great place to get away. Near enough to local historic interest, beaches, lovely towns etc. The family dog and donkey added to the atmosphere! Beautiful cottage and very well laid out and comfortable. Jacinta was a great host who greeted me on arrival and recommended places of interest. I'd visit again so recommend it. A car is essential

    Frances2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jacinta's place is a gorgeous little cottage tucked away behind her own house. The most comfortable bed and a lovely fire! Great place to get away from it all. The weather was terrible when we were there but we actually didn't mind because the cottage was so cosy!

    Fiadh2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Spotless and elegant, we always enjoy our stay here. The views are spectacular and there are plenty of things to do and see around. We will come back again! Thank you Jacinta for yet another relaxing weekend !

  • This cottage is lovely, and set in a beautiful part of Skibbereen. Jacinta was friendly, helpful and thoughtful - she talked us through the place when we arrived and provided milk, eggs and bread. I'd highly recommend this place and Jacinta's hospitality.

    Alex2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jacinta is very welcoming and her place is comfortable and exceptionally warm. The views from the cottage are amazing especially on a frosty morning. One morning I heard an airplane but other than that there were no sounds bar what's in the countryside. Jacinta's place is the perfect place to chill out but still is within a quick driving distance to Skibbereen & Leap.

Stay far from the crowds in this unique, slightly eccentric cabin in our garden . Enjoy beautiful views of the West Cork countryside from your deck and breakfast on home-made produce from our kitchen and garden. Set in a quiet, rural area 6km from Skibbereen and close to the Wild Atlantic Way, its a short drive to Castletownshend and Union Hall, Reen Pier for whale watching trips and kayaking, or the quiet beaches of Toe Head. Close to the town of Skibbereen for shops and farmers' market.
The cabin is a bespoke hut in our back garden with elevated views over the countryside. It has a double sofa bed, electricity, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, heating and an outdoor eco ensuite comprising composting toilet and hot shower. You will have your own deck for star gazing, breakfasting and taking in the green, rolling hills of West Cork.
West Cork is a beautiful and special place. We have seen it as tourists and traveled here for many years before moving over permanently. From bustling towns to quiet villages and from breathtaking scenery and water sports to the wonderful local food scene and fresh produce, there really is something for everyone. The Cork people are so friendly and helpful. There is a festival nearly every week and the vibrant music, arts and crafts community and our fascinating history and folklore will ensure there is plenty to explore and experience.

  • We made a road trip through Ireland and stayed overnight in 8 different accommodations. The cabin was the one we liked the most! Trish and Pete are extremely caring and lovely hosts, who want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Although it was already end of October and cold outside, it was cozy and warm in the cabin! The breakfast was delicious. We can definitely recommend it!

    Alexander2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The place was incredible, really quiet, perfect for disconnecting from the city. Trish and Pete are great hosts, they were giving us recommendations for places to visit. We had a great time😊

  • From the moment you arrive at Fiona & Paul's place, the hospitality and warmth is evident. The location is perfect for popping into Skibbereen town centre whilst still being easily accessible with links to other local towns and historic sites. Fiona, Paul & the gorgeous Flossie dog are the perfect hosts; friendly, incredibly helpful and have a fantastic knowledge about the local area. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable, private and spotlessly clean. Every thought is put into providing a selection of high quality teas, coffees and biscuits in the guest room. The breakasts were absolutely delicious and freshly prepared each morning. I absolutely recommend this beautiful home and wonderful hosts to anyone who is looking to stay in Skibbereen.

    Sheila2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Paul's place is fabulous. The bedroom is bright and spacious but still very cosy and is as lovely as it looks in the photo. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spotless. The bed is super comfortable. There were so many lovely touches; water and biscuits in the bedroom, a little torch on the bedside table, books, fresh milk for tea/coffee. Fiona and Paul were lovely, attentive hosts and their communication before and during my stay was excellent. And Flossie, the dog, is as welcoming and friendly and full of playful mischief! Highly recommended B&B.

    Ilse2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Paul have a lovely home and were very welcoming and accommodating. The house is well situated for Skibbereen town centre (approx 10-15 mins walk) yet set in a quiet, peaceful location. The food for breakfast was fresh and offered good choice. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, would definitely return and recommend without reserve. Thank you Fiona, Paul and Flossie!

    Teresa2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Paul are super hosts and we felt very welcome in their home. The room is lovely and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious - excellent coffee :-). I had 'fun' figuring out how to use the TV which needs two remotes so for technophobes like me that might be a challenge, otherwise ***** all the way. And do check out Lough Hyne just down the road (thanks again Paul for the tip, we went back for another swim after leaving yesterday morning)

    David2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Paul were exceptional hosts, with a wealth of knowledge about the area and surrounding areas. Their home is beautiful, and breakfast and chats were superb. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Skibbereen. Orla and Eamonn

You'll encounter a few flies and spiders in there but no more than can be expected. The facilities were clean and we felt very warm and comfortable at night. This is a great option if you fancy simple accomodation in a peaceful and scenic place.

  • Really lovely cabin with a short walk in the delicious fresh air to the hot shower and loo. We had a great time here for two nights. It’s small but has everything you need. Particularly appreciate the sharp knife and scissors as so many Airbnb’s have blunt ones. Lovely hosting and great communication.

There is a separate bathroom in the Chalet with a step in shower and hot water on demand. We provide fresh towels for your convenience as well as soap and shampoo. There are views from both sides of the chalet overlooking the garden to the south and hills beyond, as well as the tranquility of miles of unspoilt farmland to the north. If you just want to get away from it all for a little peace and quiet, but be close to the bustling market town of Skibbereen, the chalet at Coolmoreen Cottage has it all to offer.
WELCOME TO THE CHALET AT COOLMOREEN COTTAGE Your hosts Tim and Marie Sarsfield hope you have a relaxing and comfortable stay. We thank you for coming to stay with us and hope you have an opportunity to enjoy much of what West Cork has to offer. For your information there are maps and brochures in the chalet on some of the local attractions, places of interest as well as some local restaurants and bars. We are located approximately 3km from Skibbereen town centre (about 20-25mins walking). There is a bus service available between Skibbereen and Baltimore. Although there are no bus stops within easy access, the bus will stop for you along the road and we recommend you flag down the bus at the corner of the turning to Loch Hyne (approx 100 metres left outside of the main gate) either side of the road depending on which direction you would like to go. Bus timetables are available in the Chalet for your convenience For you golf enthusiasts Skibbereen and West Carberry golf public course is virtually on our doorstep. Just turn right out of the main gate and about 100 metres on the right is an access to the course. You can play either 9 or 18 holes and the fees are very reasonable and we can now offer exclusive discounts for our guests.. Club rentals and carts are also available. Loch Hyne which is a European heritage site is about 10mins drive. Turn left out of the gates and take the first left turn. It is signposted. The loch itself is one of the largest salt water tidal lakes in Europe . You can either choose to take a leisurely stroll around one side of the Loch or if you are feeling like something a little more strenuous there is a hike through the woods behind the car park and the view from the top spectacular! During the summer months night kayaking adventures are available and well worth doing as on a clear evening when it becomes dark the bioluminescence at the bottom of the lake glows! The fishing village of Baltimore is about a 15 minute drive. There are ferries leaving on a regular basis to the Sherkin and Cape Clear islands. Whale watching and excursions to the Fastnet lighthouse are also optional day trips. Baltimore itself offers some of the best restaurants around West Cork. • Tim’s chalet is my new high water mark for Airbnb’s. It’s absolutely ideal. Beautiful accommodations and Tim was very welcoming and generous stocking the place with some groceries. There’s even a washer if your stay leaves you enough time to air dry. Short drive to Skibbereen and just down the road from a beautiful hike at Knockomagh Hill. Highly recommend!

  • Beautiful house in a lovely location very close to skibbereen and to the lovely Loch hyne. Eileen is very welcoming and had the house very comfortable. Highly recommended it.

  • Eileen is an adorable person, who gives you access to a brand new, fully equipped apartment, not far away from Skibereen. You should be there with a car - and read the instructions to find the house :) A perfect AIRBNB experience! Thank you so much for all your efforts!

    Richard2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house in a beautiful surrounding and Eilleen is a great host. Thanks a lot

    Clara2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal for a couples break away when you need a home base and you plan to be out and about all day. Eileen is a very considerate and thoughtful host. She was great with directions, very warm and friendly upon our arrival, very accommodating making herself available should we need anything - which we didn’t, but it’s always nice to know that the host is approachable for the “just in case” There was milk and bread and butter already at the house for us, which we thought was a lovely touch. The bed is **so** comfy (from someone with a bad back, this is a serious compliment). The towels are lovely, we had a lazy evening one night and sat in watching Netflix, so relaxing. The location itself is ideal if you plan on dividing time between Skibbereen and Baltimore as it’s ideally positioned between the two. We’ll definitely come back and stay again on another child-free weekend.

    Caz2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Eileen is a great host who has a whole cottage with all the amenities including laundry. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Richard and Sue

Bridge House - Special Breakfast Included Looking for accommodation with a difference? Look no further – Bridge House allows you to discover a world apart. If you want your trip to be a truly memorable one, skip those humdrum hotels and step back in time at Bridge House in Skibbereen.
In high summer, Bridge House, with its overflowing window boxes a riot of colour, is an unmissable landmark in Skibbereen. The interior of the house is a veritable treasure trove, filled, as it is, with beautiful antique Victorian furniture and an eclectic mix of diverse curios. Every corner of this quaint establishment offers something new and surprising to dazzle the eye. Little wonder, then, that a poll of listeners on one of Ireland’s most popular radio programmes voted Bridge House ‘Ireland’s Most Unusual B & B’.
Skibbereen is a friendly market town with a wealth of attractions at its doorstep – history, geography, nature and culture all merge in this cosmopolitan town.

    Herve2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Mona's place is hands down one of the best bnb's you can book in Ireland. She is a super duper host with amazing cooking as well as hosting skills. Her home has so many thoughtful touches everywhere like the "this place is for the birds" sign at the entrance and many more! So if you visit, do observe all the artefacts. Don't miss this experience if you get the opportunity. Mona and her home are definitely special.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Helen, she's a lovely lady, thoughtful and helpful. The house is very central, exactly what I was looking for, clean, neat and well heated. I'll be back very soon... it's 5 stars all round from me.

  • Helen is a very welcoming person and has a great little spot right in the center of Skibbereen. The house is nicely decorated and was very nice and warm.

    Monique2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect and the house is even prettier than in the pictures. Helen was friendly and made us feel sincerely welcome. Full kitchen, strong wifi everywhere, warm bathroom, comfy bed and all you could need.

  • It was such a pleasant stay; everything so clean, tidy and beautifully decorated. The communication with Helen was very fluent. As a host she will do anything in her power to make things easier for you.

  • Fantastic location right on the heart of town, you can walk to everything including great super market and restaurants. Fast communication, use of kitchen, water is got, bed is very comfortable and tons of light. Helen was just lovely as was her home!

  • We had a short but really lovely stay in Helen's home en route to Cape Clear. The home is beautifully decorated and made a handy and good value stopover for our trip west. Thanks for the lovely tip for the local pubs too, Helen!

    Thomas2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was so kind! I was in town for a wedding, so there were festivities that made our schedule complicated, but she went out of her way to bring the key to where the reception was. This was going way above and beyond our expectation! The house is located just down from the square in Skibereen. There’s a farmers market just a few steps away on Saturday mornings that is fantastic! You can get everywhere by foot. It’s a great way to see the town! I recommend The Church restaurant, and have a look at the Skibereen heritage center. I definitely recommend this house for your stay in Skibereen!! I would love to come back again!

Located in the heart of Tragumna , one of the most picturesque villages in WestCork. (of course I am biased!).The Lookout is a very modern accommodation, it has wonderful views in a quiet peaceful area located along the Wild Atlantic Way, just 5km from Skibbereen. At our B&B you can look forward to a relaxing stay, enjoy the sounds of the ocean crashing against the rocks and beach. The Lookout is close to the Blue Flag Beach, Skibbereen Eagle bar/restaurant and offers breathtaking coastal walks.
The room is located on the ground floor with its own private entrance and private ensuite. The room is bright and clean. The internal door to the rest of the house is locked off. It has a kingsize bed with good quality linen and comfortable mattress. The room also contains a Smart TV, mini fridge ( to hold fresh milk and water), toaster, butter/jam, tea/coffee making facilities, choice of cereals (3) and milk. The ensuite has a large shower, toilet and sink. Weather permitting there are deck chairs to sit out and have a coffee in the morning, or relax on arrival and enjoy the sunset. Although I do not provide a full breakfast, there will be a choice of three cereals in the room, fresh milk in the fridge, breakfast biscuits, toaster and bread, tea and coffee.
Tragumna is an extremely safe and quiet village. Im sure you would feel right at home here. What to See and Do: Kayaking: Atlantic Sea Kayaking, Reen Pier & Lough Hyne. Reen Pier is on the way to Union Hall, about a 15 minute drive from the house. Whale Watching: Colin Barnes runs Cork Whale Watch out of Reen Pier. Nic Slocum runs Whale Watch West Cork out of Baltimore. Both tours are excellent. We suggest Cork Whale Watch as the route Colin takes will give you a whole new perspective on the coastline the house looks out onto. In addition, you will pass the seal colony located on the Stags Rocks (the group of rocks you see around the corner). Walking from the house: Tralispeen beach: turn left at Trag beach, follow the road for 1km, then take a left at the T-junction and walk 2-3 km. Towards Castletownshend: Toe Head tower can be reached by taking a right after Tralagoch beach. If you are planning to walk all the way to Castletownshend, be sure to stop at Sandy Cove beach. Nearby sightseeing: Lough Hyne - a must visit; Rineen woods; Drombeag Stone Circle; Knockdrum Stone Fort; Liss Ard Gardens. Scenic drives: Crookhaven, Barley Cove & The Mizen Head; Bantry, Glengarriff & the Beara Way; Bantry, Gougane Barra & Kenmare; Clonakilty, Timoleague & Kinsale. Golfing: Skibbereen Golf Club, 18-hole course. Alternatively, there is a fine 18-hole links pitch and putt course in Rosscarbery. Clubs can be rented at both locations. Angling: Seaanglingcharters.ie, Reen Pier; Baltimore Angling & Wild Life Tours. Diving: Baltimore Diving Centre Other: Fastnet Rock lighthouse tours, fastnettour.com
  • Fiona was an absolutely fantastic host. The room was beautiful and sparkling clean, and location absolutely perfect. Will definitely be back again. Can not recommend highly enough.

Lovely cottage 3miles or 4.8 km west of Skibbereen on the Wild Atlantic Way
Lovely Cottage is build in the 1920. Next year it will be a century old! Modernized and up to today’s standards, very useable kitchen (as some guest mentioned well stocked ) and basic bathroom, insulated walls and central heating but also a wood stove for cozy evenings . The patio is very sheltered and south facing for relaxed breakfast outside in summer or relaxing after a day of site seeing in beautiful coastal West Cork. It is very quiet and on clear nights beautiful opportunity to watch the stars( no light pollution) Lovely Cottage is about 3.5 miles from Market town Skibbereen that also has all you need for food shopping ( Lidl, Aldi, and many other shops) Restaurants, coffee shops etc. Also 1 mile of the Wild Atlantic way route with beautiful coastal views and small pretty west-cork villages.
Ideal place to unwind, plenty of fresh air, quiet roads with very little traffic, many scenic walks, with stunning views over the West Cork peninsulas from a nearby high vantage point.
  • We had a lovely weekend stay in the cottage. We had booked a last minute break for a special anniversary and we loved every minute of our stay. The cottage is so lovely and cosy, we loved evenings by the fire playing cards and especially enjoyed our visits from Max the cat. Henrietta was very accommodating, leaving out goodies on arrival and even suggested a lovely walk we could do. We found the location excellent, it feels remote however you are only 5 minutes from town, which is great. We will certainly be back, sooner than later!

    Tamzyn2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage beautifully decorated spotlessly clean. Really cosy kids bedrooms were very suitable for them . Lovely box of toys in the room great selection of books to read from. Henrietta left crisps and juice drink for kids which was a lovely touch. Great location to visit west cork would highly recommend staying here

    Brian2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • A very pretty, peaceful cottage, certainly lives up to it's name. Henrietta is a thoughtful host but never intrusive . The cottage itself is spotless, tastefully decorated and very well stocked. Thoughtful touches on arrival- milk, bread, butter, tea etc, as well as a lovely bunch of flowers. The area is outstandingly beautiful, with many places to explore. Lovely Cottage is a perfect base to discover the beautiful South West. We loved the friendly cat too.. we'll be back!

    Lizzie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage is a great place to stay. The host went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage is well supplied for visitor needs. We could not have asked for more - highly recommended.

    Christine2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say, the cosiest little cottage you could hope for, it exceeded all expectations we could have had. Warm, sparkling clean - Henrietta even had lovely brown bread left out, and butter and jam when we arrived. We came to Cork to do a distance swim for the weekend, and when we returned on the Saturday, frozen and hungry, the heating had been turned up, the fire was all set, the water was lovely and hot, we didn't budge for the night. I was sad to leave, and left my jacket behind by mistake, Henrietta had it packaged and posted to me the very next day. Unbelievably helpful lady, with a gorgeous home. We can't wait to go back, thanks Henrietta for everything xx

    Alison2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage lives up to its name. Excellent little cottage for a few nights away, the kitchen is very well equipped and we were left some excellent bread and a few other bits on our arrival. The cottage is clean and tidy and the beds nice and comfy. Be aware you will have breakfast with Max the cat in the mornings but he is the most polite cat we've ever seen and absolutely no bother at all if you need some space.

    Michael2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay, Henrietta had thought of everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. A little out of the way, but for us this just added to the experience having a quiet and secluded place to enjoy Skibberrean from. We especially appreciated the snacks, drinks, bread, tea and fresh local milk on our arrival. The wood fire was lovely and the kitchen amazingly well equipped with everything you could possibly need for cooking. Everything was just so cosy and comfortable - it really felt like home as soon as we arrived. Would recommend lovely cottage to anyone.

    Rachael2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time at Henrietta’s. Her place was the nicest, cleanest, and best place we stayed at on our extended Ireland trip. Did I mention it was also the cheapest? Best value for an Airbnb. You won’t find a better place to stay at in all of Ireland!

  • Pauline’s place was in a very central location. We could walk to three grocery stores. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. She has a great patio for eating meals. She was very thoughtful and left us with fresh baked cheesecake. Perfect location.

    Hannah2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline was a great host, so friendly and helpful. We felt at home and comfortable in her lovely spotless house. She arranged stair gates and a high chair for us, which was great. The location could not be better, it is smack bang in the middle of town beside shops, restaurants, markets and pubs. Lidl is at one end of the street and the famous Fields SuperValu is at the other so getting groceries is no bother. There is plenty of parking at the front and back of the house, so there was no worries about that, even though Skib is a busy place. We would go back with pleasure!

  • Pauline's house is situated only minutes from the main part of the town. As a family, it was a bonus that we were within walking distance of two major supermarkets. The house itself was perfect for us. Three comfortable bedrooms, a relaxing sitting-room and a well equipped kitchen ensured that our 'rest' days were as enjoyable as the days we explored the surrounding areas. The excellent WiFi also impressed the kids! :-) Pauline is a fantastic hostess - she made sure we had everything we needed, and was very relaxed. I would definitely stay here again. Míle Buíochas Pauline. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. You are a gem!

  • Richard and Ana really deserve thier supper host rating . The accommodation was really clean and cozy. Richard was quick to answer questions. Enjoyed the amazing veiw from the deck . We'll be back !

  • The place is in the most beautiful surroundings, wonderful views, a lovely town with loads of history. You will need transport if you choose to stay here. It was our first airbnb experience and we certainly weren't disappointed. Communication was quick and accurate, the place was very clean and we had the best time we could have hoped for. I highly recommend The Tigin on the hill.

    Oliver2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ricky and Ana made our stay unforgettable. They were very accommodating hosts and responded to any questions or concerns we had almost immediately. They provided us with everything we needed, and even included a few extra special touches like: fresh baked bread, fruit, coffee, cold filtered water, shampoo, body soaps, and even fresh flowers. The location is an absolute dream, with a picturesque Ireland landscape right outside your door. You are even neighbors to some sheep and cows! Keep in mind, this is a very rural area, and while we loved every second of it, it may not be for everyone. Despite the rural location, Skibbereen town center was a quick 5 minute drive down the road. If you are looking for an authentic Irish stay with breath-taking scenery, I cannot recommend Tig na Wig enough!

    Morgan2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the tigin on the hill. The space is small and compact but really cosy and there’s everything you need for a comfortable stay. Ana and Ricky made everything really easy and the local area is spectacular - highly recommended.

    Peter2019-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect cosy space for 2. Outside area had beautiful views across the orchard/meadow & indoors had everything you need - and slippers! Despite not meeting our hosts (we were out a lot!) we were in touch, felt welcome & knew we could ask if we needed anything. West Cork is beautiful & the cottage is a great base from which to explore the wild atlantic. Thanks guys.

    Fran2019-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • We just spent a very comfortable month at Tig Na Wig just outside Skibbereen in beautiful West Cork, Ireland. Ricky and Ana have created an amazing space in a convenient location that packs a lot of amenities into an efficiently planned footprint. The kitchen/dining area is bright and airy and fitted with locally sourced wood furnishings crafted by a renowned artist from the neighborhood. The sleeping area is peaceful with an extremely comfortable mattress while the bathroom is highlighted by a shower that’s unexpectedly luxurious and much appreciated after a long hike. The deck off the kitchen makes the space feel much larger and affords fantastic sunsets and star gazing by night. Extra added bonuses were professional onsite massages by Rickey (highly recommended) parking at the front door, great selection of eclectic DVDs, vast local knowledge and wonderful hiking from the base of the driveway. We must also mention excellent communications throughout our stay. BUT the absolute best thing about Tig Na Wig was Ana and Rickey themselves, genuinely good people who just know how to treat their guests. Some hosts just have an innate ability to make sure their guests are comfortable without imposing on their privacy and this is how we felt at Tig Na Wig. Highly recommended by very experienced travelers/Airbnbers.

The room was big enough for us and a small but also completely adequate bathroom was directly in the room. In the morning we could have breakfast in peace and then leave again. Thank you for a very uncomplicated stay.

A small fully-equipped self-contained cottage set in a mature garden amidst tranquil farmland, yet within ten minutes of a great cappuccino, the majestic ‘Wild Atlantic Way’, megalithic sites (we have a cairn within walking distance), artisan restaurants and much, much more. We are quiet and unobtrusive, but have a wealth of local knowledge to make your stay memorable. Our interests are eclectic, so you let us know what it is you would like to discover and, in all likelihood, we can point you in the right direction. We love good food ourselves and can offer pointers to stunning local produce if required. In the summer months you may have to share our acre of mature wooded garden with swallows and grandchildren. Sometimes simultaneously. The accommodation consists of a double bedroom, bathroom and living space, including a small kitchen, on the ground floor plus a first floor with dormer windows suitable for sleeping two children (three at a pinch). Despite the tranquillity, and apparent remoteness, we are only 6 km from the bustling market town of Skibbereen. The area is ideal for walking and cycling in addition to being a good base to explore the rugged Mizen and Beara peninsulas on our doorstep. Unfortunately, this part of Ireland is no longer served by the railway network. The national bus service operates buses through Skibbereen with reasonable frequency. So a car, while not totally necessary, would facilitate seeing the breadth of sights in the locality. This is a unique corner of the world where the community still have time for their neighbours and for the odd stray tourist. It is more beautiful than the famed Ring of Kerry but with a fraction of the visitors and none of the tour buses.
We live rurally, so there is not much to ‘do’ here except ‘be’ and luxuriate in the unparalleled peace and quiet. We have lovely neighbours, none of whose houses we can see, but we know they are there if needed.
  • Really lovely cottage, great location and perfect for a relaxing getaway.

  • You can expect a warm welcome & nothing is too much trouble. If you looking for peace & tranquility, you will find in ‘at the end of the rainbow’.

    Christina2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This truly is the end of the rainbow. What an amazing place to stay. Brendan was a great host and there were lovely extra touches that made it all the more special. One of the most amazing things was showering in water that comes from the well. It was like showering in silk! Thank you Gloria and Brendan

    stephanie2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, hidden place. Comfortable and welcoming.

    Andrew2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Gloria and Brendan’s cottage is magical indeed, with beautiful lotus flowers blossoming in the pond in front, butterflies and lovely flowers. The cottage is wonderful. We all loved it from the first step in the door! We were welcomed w fresh eggs, butter and fruit. Thank you for the extra tips and care for our arrival in the south of Ireland. We very much appreciated it.

    Katinka2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week with our two children at Gloria and Brendan. It was a very good moment. Their cottage is nestled in a very charming garden, quiet. It's simple and authentic. I recommend this place.

    Sabine2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place with an amazing hosts, great location, the house was unreal, I think photos on Airbnb doesn't do the house justice as it's way better than it looks on the photos, hosts were very friendly and welcoming, super fast response on every query, couldn't recommend it more.

    Beqa2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were delighted by the welcome we received from Gloria and Brendan. The cottage is well equipped and full of charm. Skibbereen is a small and authentic town, very well located for the peninsulas of Mizen HEAD, Sheep's Head and Beara. We had a great week and had a great meeting with our hosts. We absolutely recommend.

Sarah was a brilliant host, so quick to reply and gave us great suggestions for things to do/places to eat in the local area, she even left us some tasty brownies! Couldn't recommend this place enough!

    Aoife2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Unbelievable place. Stunning views from the garden and hot tub was a real treat. Perfect relaxing retreat

    Niki2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Trag Retreat is beautiful. The house is extremely comfortable and the views are so stunning that we were tempted not to leave at all. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, the place was spotlessly clean and Sarah left us cookies to welcome us. She was a magnificent host, responding almost immediately to all of our communication. The hot tub outside is incredible and even though it was lashing raining on our last day we were in there twice. We’ll definitely be back.

  • The location was ideal for what I needed and the room that I was in was lovely. Kay was very welcoming when I arrived. And I would go back again. One note is that the GPS coordinates in the app show a retirement village which was a bit puzzling but the eircode that Kay sent on gave exact location. Lovely place.

  • Kay’s place was truly a gem! Location was perfect, the room was spotlessly clean, and large, fluffy towels were provided in our private bathroom. The grounds are meticulously cared for with beautiful flowers, trees, and the most gorgeous lawn. We enjoyed our conversations with Mike about local history, and were extremely pleased with our stay. We will definitely be back! If you’re planning to travel to the area, I highly recommend staying at Whispering Trees.

Enjoyed a lovely continential breakfast with lovely homemade brown bread. Honestly I cannot say more about the place. Would definitely come back again!
