Places to stay in Sapelo Island

Places to stay in Sapelo Island
Enjoy this quiet cottage on a secluded island. Walk seven miles of undeveloped beaches. Sometimes you will stay on the beach all day and not see anyone but the sea gulls. Watch the bald eagles hunt, pick up sand dollars or just relax. The island is accessible by passenger ferry ONLY to residents and registered guests. I must make ferry reservations a week in advance or the DNR will not let you on. The ferry ride is $5 per person cash only and the boat crew appreciates correct change.
All of the beachfront and most of the island is owned by the State of Georgia and is undeveloped. The University of Georgia Marine Institute conducts research from there facilities at the South End. Cottage is a fully furnished 1 BR 1 BA with a queen fold out sleeper. Guest must bring ALL food and necessities since there are no stores or restaurants on the island. A grill and beach chairs are provided. Bicycles and golf carts are available for rent from island residents. We have another cottage next door and are down on an irregular schedule. The whole island is so secluded. There is very little light pollution at night so it is great for astronomy. The human population is so small that there is almost no background noise.

  • The Mint Cottage is a great little getaway. I can’t say enough good things about our stay and the island as a whole. Staying on Sapelo takes some planning and being strategic about meals and supplies but the experience is totally worth it. The beaches are amazing and everyone we met on the island was incredibly friendly. Go see the Reynolds Mansion. The self guided tour was like a treasure hunt. If you like collecting seashells and sand dollars, you’ll be in heaven. We will definitely be back.

  • Kathy’s home was an incredible find. We were so happy that we chose to spend the week there. The island has so much to offer, and it’s a perfect home base from which to explore. Already planning on coming back again!

  • For 12 days we explored Sapelo Island, learning of its history, its people, their culture and enjoyed the island's unique, remote beauty. Kathy's cabin was excellent. It had all we needed, and she provided a wealth of books and local knowledge to aid our experience. Days after returning home we still smile thinking of our time there. We think to ourselves: when was the last time (before going to Sapelo) that we walked on a beach for three hours and never so another person? Never!

  • Always a pleasure to stay with Kathy

  • We stayed at the cottage for a week in mid/late-January. Everything was even better than what we had seen/read online. Sapelo Island is a wild place--"wild" meaning away from most of civilization: lots of nature (towering trees with Spanish moss, quiet beaches), narrow dirt roads, limited mobile phone coverage, and very little noise or human activity. It's not for everyone, but it was perfect for us! We wanted private, peaceful, quiet, and relaxing, and we got exactly that. While we were there, we experienced all sorts of different weather--warm (low 70s) and sunny days; cold (low 50s) and windy days; and everything in between. But we went to the beach every day and enjoyed the unique character of the beach on each day. We walked the beach and enjoyed looking for shells, driftwood, sea creatures, and birds (for birdwatchers, this would be an interesting place). One day we were at the beach for more than 8 hours and saw only two other people walk by. It was fantastic to have the beach to ourselves. At night, we enjoyed stargazing--we saw some shooting stars and could just make out the Milky Way. The cottage itself was small and functional and centrally located on the island, making it easy to get to the beaches. We spent most of our time on the beaches and exploring the island, and the cottage was more than sufficient for the time we had to spend indoors. We cooked in the cottage almost every night. There are no restaurants or shopping on the island, so some planning was required to bring the food we needed to the island. We even stopped at Shell Creek Seafood on the mainland on our way to the ferry and purchased some fresh, local-caught shrimp, and they were delicious. Internet in the cottage worked well. The rental included use of a truck, which was very helpful for getting around the island. There is very little traffic; on our "busiest" day of driving we saw just three other vehicles. There are a few paved roads, but many roads are uneven dirt roads, so the driving speeds are relatively slow, which adds to the relaxing feel of the island. What really made our time on the island amazing was Kathy and Doyle's hospitality. They helped us to learn about the history of the island and discover places on the island. They were always helpful with answering questions, providing suggestions of things to see, and just visiting in general. Thank you Kathy and Doyle for all you did for us! If you're looking for somewhere off the beaten path, somewhere that's wild, somewhere where life is slow, then Sapelo is the place to go, and Kathy's cottage is the place to stay.

  • Sapelo is a whole lotta magic, and the Mint Cottage is a great home base from which to explore the island. Kathy was an excellent communicator, sending pages of really helpful information about the island and what to expect. She was quick to respond to any questions I had, and was gracious in setting up a tour of the north end of the island for me. The cottage was larger than I expected, and offered everything I could have needed. I came with some casual clothes and an ice chest with my food, and was totally good to go. The truck was great, and allowed me to do my own exploration of the south end of the island. I look forward to returning to Sapelo and the Mint Cottage.

  • What a beautiful home to stay in! The bed and room were arranged with such thoughtfulness and care. Melissa and Bryce were very welcoming hosts. We had a peaceful evening on the screened-in porch as the sun went down.

  • Melissa and Bryce were excellent hosts. They shared local information and shared their home with us as if we were old friends. We hope to stay with them again sometime.

  • If looking for an amazing stay while in Darien visit with Melissa and Brice

    Carlton2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a friendly, welcoming, and truly a luxurious experience with Melissa and Bryce. They are the kind of people who you would love to have in your life as friends. We had a lovely time talking, sharing breakfast and enjoying their beautiful house.

    Debra2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely home is a really gorgeous place to stay. Melissa and her husband Bryce are wonderful hosts. The whole house is artistically decorated and we enjoyed touring the common rooms. The bedroom was roomy with a very comfortable bed so we slept well. Coffee was provided in the room. We spent relaxing hours in the library, sometimes in front of an open fire which was welcome on the cold, damp days we experienced during our stay. We had stimulating discussions with our hosts on a variety of topics including books. The kitchen and breakfast area was a “room with a view” as they say and we enjoyed the delightful breakfast that was provided as we enjoyed the view of the backyard and the marshes beyond. We highly recommend a stop here. It’s a nice change from hotels and so much more relaxing and pleasant - a home away from home.

    Robert2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in, and I’ve stayed at quite a few. This home is truly magical, curated by an artist with extreme thoughtfulness and style. Melissa is a wonderful host, very helpful and kind, and she even made me breakfast both mornings I was there. The bedroom and bathroom made me feel like royalty, with an amazing shower and bathtub. The back room that is screened in was one of my all time favorite places and really exemplified southern tranquility. There’s a library collection filled with unique books. Bottom line is stay here. You won’t regret it.

  • Do not even give it a second thought, if you are staying relatively close....YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE! If you want to see the sites, go if you want to sit on the most fabulous porch all day and relax, you can do that too. Fabulous seafood, and a very quaint town. First timers, but not last timers. Expect the unexpected...in the best of ways

    Susan2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • It will be difficult to keep this brief, because I could go on and on about all of the reasons you should stay here (the incredible, stylish home, the beautiful marsh views from the screen porch, the proximity to Ashantilly, the comfy bed, the massage chair, the small kindnesses that mean so much), but the real reason you should stay is to meet Melissa and Bryce. They are fascinating, funny, kind and exceedingly gracious. Their genuine hospitality made this solo traveler feel like family and I will always treasure my visit.

  • My girlfriend and I had an excellent stay at Serena and Dwight's cottage. Before we arrived, Serena was very responsive and informative as we coordinated check in. The property was beautiful and fully stocked with all of the amenities promised. We cooked dinner both nights using some of the available cookware and dishes, and lounged on the comfortable furniture in the evenings. We watched the sunset from the dock both nights of our stay while lying on the hammock, which was an incredibly peaceful experience. We plan to visit again soon, and we highly recommend Serena and Dwight's place as a relaxing getaway.

    Brad2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The place is incredibly beautiful. Serena and Delight are wonderful and both talented artists, one with his craftsmanship (he built the place) and the other a painter. They were incredibly responsive and accommodating. I asked them if we might be able to turn up the water heater and while we were out that day Dwight had replaced the water heater!!! Wow. The dock is a wonderful spot to have your coffee the morning and watch birds. We would definitely come back!

    Jessica2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • we had a very nice experience at Serena and Dwight’s cottage. they are quality people with just the right amount of availability when needed but yet they give you ‘your space’ as well. when *nearing* the property, BEFORE you reach the cottage and the property you will be staying on, some of the surrounding area is not kept up as well as it could be. (not the host property, before you get there). also, as someone else mentioned, you can hear and see (far off) I-95 in the distance; but this didnt bother us in the least, not even by my wife who normally notices these types of things. once on the property, there is their main house and then the separate rental cottage where guests stay. it is situated on a ridge sorta above the river, and it goes down to the river, that gives a nice view. i brought my very small fishing skiff /kayak sized boat (weighs ~100lbs) and Dwight even helped me launch it here on the property into the Darien River. The cottage is small as described in the listing but for a couple, it is very nice. very clean, wifi, 2 TVs w/cable as well as online channel access, full kitchen w/large fridge, queen bed, pull out sofa, and washer/dryer, cabinets fully stocked, coffee, paper towels, bath towels, heat and ac that works well, ceiling fans and more. as for fishing, the fish didnt want to cooperate this time for me, except for catfish, but maybe next time. it was February, after all. the river’s current is strong with some flotsam in the water (after heavy rains as of late?), so swimming is not advised. (and again, it was February), but the dock hammock, hammock chair and floating portion of the dock were big hits, as was the deck at the front of the cottage, with river views. there us a chimnea and some other guest sitting areas (and a coming outdoor kitchen) over the large property (maybe 2-3 acres)?). we used the cottage as a base to some local seafood restaurants, to drive down to jekyll island for biking, and st. simons island for dinner one day, then similar for a visit to Savannah and Tybee. we would stay here again. it is priced right. Dwight and Serena were wonderful hosts and so kind. we feel like we made some new friends in them. :-)

  • We’ve stayed at a fair number of AirBnBs. This was by far one of our greatest experiences. Most of the time a place has trouble living up to the pictures and description. In this case, they don’t come close to doing it justice. It’s just a Wow factor from the moment you arrive. It’s immaculately kept, full of wonderful art by Serena, and interestingly and cozily constructed by Dwight, who built the place. The view is magnificent out over the marsh. It’s genuinely tranquil. Serena and Dwight are wonderful hosts. We had a strong sense of privacy, but they were always quickly available if needed. We got great local information that served us well. Darien was lovely, and we spent all day one day wandering its streets and shops and enjoying the truly terrific food. We can’t wait to return. What a gem. Five stars across the board.

    Joseph2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t be happier with our stay. The cottage is well-stocked with anything you need and immaculate. We will definitely return for another extended weekend.

    Reggie2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and sparkling clean. The dock was peaceful and so inviting, and Serena and Dwight went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right. We ate at B&Js- unbelievably good and only $9 for the buffet. I can't wait to go back to Darien!

  • Serena and her husband are excellent host. She greeted us with a warm welcome and was very helpful with information. The place is very private and tranquil. The ground and scenery are beautiful. The home has everything you could possibly need. The hammocks were the perfect added bonus and the beach was just a short ride away. We'd definitely pick this spot again.

    Monique2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The guesthouse was perfect. It was just the right size for my husband and I. The dock was the perfect place to drink our coffee and animal watch (our midwestern selves certainly enjoyed seeing the alligator [Dr. Fred Chomp Chomp] from a distance). We were close enough for a day trip to Jekyll Island and St. Simon Island and there were a couple cute places in Darien to grab dinner or a drink. Wonderful space, incredibly relaxing.

  • Overall we had an excellent stay the host checked us in in a timely manner and the rooms were very comfortable! The bed was definitely the best part! Very clean, right by the water and very comfortable. The only issue we had was in the morning a screaming baby in the room next door which made the very thin walls horrible for sleeping. We were woken up and couldn't go back to sleep for hours. Other than that! Awesome!

  • What a spectacular place! Being able to go out on the dock every morning and evening to watch the sunrise and sunset was a real treat. Great photo opportunities for the bird lovers out there, too. The house was huge and a great bargain for anyone traveling with family. Super kitchen with everything you need. We will be coming back for sure!

  • My family and I had a fabulous time. My husband and son caught so many blue crabs, fish and some shrimp lol They were delicious. The River House is very comfy and had a full stock kitchen. The house was clean. Plenty of room for the entire family. The baby had plenty of room to explore. If your a reader...there are plenty of books for you to read..I read the story of Sapelo that talks about Sapelo islands past history...truly amazing. The AC/Heating works great! Wifi works great and definitely needed since service is almost nil lol Can't wait to book our next get away

    Jacqueline2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of those places that you secretly want to squirrel away for yourself and hoard it. Waking up every morning to a spectacular sunrise right outside the window, peace, quiet, tranquility.... it has it all!! The dock was an awesome place we spent a lot of time on. It was great to watch the local birdlife, and we even spotted a manatee swimming through the grass between the dock and the house. The fishing was good on the dock, we caught several really nice whiting, a trout, a flounder, a sheepshead, and more stingrays than we could keep up with. We sighted a pair of roseate spoonbills, and countless sea birds!! We were visited daily on the dock by a bait stealing gull, and bold, noisy grackels. We were able to throw cast nets and catch all the bait we needed. The crab traps were great, and we brought back numerous, tasty blue crabs!! The house was furnished with many beautiful antiques, and was very clean and spacious. We really enjoyed congregating on the back deck and just watching the tides come and go. It's definitely a place we would enjoying returning to time and time again!!! Karen is a super host and answers any questions you could have. Thank you Karen for such a fabulous place!!!

  • I don’t want to tell you how great this place is because I would love to keep it to myself! You can actually see the Milky Way at night, which I didn’t think was possible in Georgia. The house is much nicer than in the pictures, and the view is unbeatable. Outdoor spaces are lovely. We will definitely be back.

    Lawrence2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s place was a sweet surprise for our family of 7. We had no idea we would be able to catch and eat crab and use the kayaks. The house was set up great for much needed R&R.

Want to get away--Really get away" 7 MILES OF BEACH ON THE ATLANTIC OCEAN are waiting for your footsteps--they may be the only ones you see on these beaches. My Sapelo Retreat is an aerie apartment with a private entrance and a private deck situated above our home, an ideal site for rest, relaxation, restoration and self-reinvention or reconnecting with your loved ones, or for a place which fosters creativity. Here you can walk, hike, bike, run to clear your mind then tune in to the rhythm of the tides and waves. Walk the waters edge as you look for shells or simply bask in the breeze and dream your day away. My Sapelo Retreat is located about halfway between the two beaches. Perhaps what makes Sapelo unique is what it doesn't have--traffic, noise, pollution, street lights so that you can see the stars. My Retreat is your self-contained, completely furnished and supplied, apartment with its own private deck. It even comes with the use of a vehicle while you are our guest! Also two beach cruiser bicycles go with. Inside you find a private bedroom (queen size bed), then outside the bedroom, built in bunk beds, bathroom, sitting area, kitchen and deck. That completes the physical package. Below is an article that tells about the Island an gives more information about staying here. Sapelo Island and My Sapelo Retreat Rental Sapelo is one of Georgia’s barrier islands. Except for the 200 privately owned acres in the community of Hog Hammock, the island is owned by the State of Georgia and operated by the Department of Natural Resources. Less than 100 people live here so it is hauntingly lovely, spiritual, basic, non-consumeristic and pristine. Sapelo has 7 miles of mainly uninhabited beaches, the Reynolds Mansion, the University of Georgia Marine Research Institute and one of 28 National Marine Estaurine Research Reserves, 2 Baptist churches, a store and a lighthouse. As to location we are 1 hour from the Savannah airport; 1 1/2 hr. from Jacksonville, FL , airport and 30 minutes from Brunswick, GA. Sapelo is accessed from the mainland at Meridian, GA which is 8 miles from either I-95 exit 49 at Darien or exit 58 at Eulonia. If you are arriving in the area the day before in order to come to the Island on the early AM ferry, there are hotels in the nearest town, Darien. I’ll be glad to give you contact numbers for them. There are also 2 great bed and breakfast inns in Darien. The Retreat accommodates no more than six folks, but is most comfortable with no more than four or five adults. It is made up of a private bedroom, bunk beds built into a niche, a full bathroom and full kitchen, a sitting area, a pine dining nook and a private deck. For the most part, you have to bring your own food though there is the possibility of a restaurant meal and there are the caterers mentioned below. All else is furnished. Don't forget insect repellant, your Rx's and sunscreen. In almost any time of year you need a couple pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, a lightweight jacket, a sweatshirt, a swimsuit and several t-shirts. The Retreat has its own deck and grill and there are beach chairs in the apartment for your use. Bring a camera and binoculars, you’ll enjoy them. There is some reading material in the apartment mainly historical info on Sapelo. Please email me with other questions you have. I will also need to discuss with you which boat you wish to arrive on so that I can make your ferry reservations. You cannot make your own boat reservations. By the way, this is a passenger ferry only; you leave your vehicle in the DNR parking lot on the mainland. For transportation while on the island, I loan guests one of my vehicles; you will have to put the gas in it though. Two bikes go with the apartment and additional rentals are available if you have more than two in your party. Island tours, kayak trips and fishing trips can also be arranged. I furnish you with a map of the island and tell you local rules and customs. The Retreat is centrally air-conditioned , has high speed internet , a small television, fully furnished kitchen, all bed and bath linens (with the exception of BEACH TOWELS-YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN), a hair dryer, 4 beach chairs, an umbrella and a few sand toys. Please note-I DO NOT FURNISH PAPER TOWELS, CHARCOAL OR CHARCOAL STARTER. The Island is very casual usually casual pants and shorts, a lightweight jacket and layers work for every activity here from the beach to church or a party. All is focused outside so dress accordingly. HOW TO PACK. Because there are two flights of stairs (the house is raised up 1 flight as flood insurance requires and the apartment is upstairs) packing several smaller bags for ease of carrying upstairs is more convenient that packing large bags. Depending on which days you are here, you may coincide with a day when Lula is cooking in her Kitchen for a group and get to join that group and have a wonderful meal Sapelo style. Also there are three Island women (all excellent cooks!) who will cater evening meals to My Sapelo Retreat. Arrange any meals you desire directly with them. They are Barbara Bailey, 912-485-2202; Sharron Grovner, 912-485-2135 and Mary Bailey, 912-485-2247. You can arrange a kayaking trip, Island tours (different types), fishing trips and salt marsh field trips and I’ll be glad to give you those contacts if you want to include any of those activities. PET POLICY. If you wish to bring a pet you must have the owner’spre-authorization, bring with you the pet’s current veterinarian papers showing all vaccinations current to show to the boat mate before you will be let on the boat. The pet is not allowed in My Retreat alone therefore you must take it with you whenever you leave My Retreat. There is a small store on the island that sells staples, soft drinks, snacks, necessities and beer, staples and canned goods. There are about 10 miles of paved roads on the island; all the rest are sand. Island tours are available and I can connect you to the best people to do that. There is a BiLo grocery store in Darien and a liquor store and a Piggly Wiggly and liquor store in Eulonia. Because most cell phones only work sporadically (Those on Verizon work best.) there is a land line available for guest to use if they need it. As you develop your plans, please feel free to call me with any questions you have, 912—485-2232 or 912-266-2619. Kindest regards, Lucy Lea Sellers
  • Read this review for the ultimate Sapelo insider's information. First & foremost, as an off-the-beaten-path type traveler, permit me to say that Lucy is The Ultimate Sapelo Information Specialist as a 26-year resident and former manager of The Reynolds Mansion. Her hubby Captain Mikeis an engaging fellow but Lucy is THE hostess with the mostess. This is priceless on an island where there isn't much direction otherwise so DO NOT underestimate the value of her as a resource. You find most AirBnB properties on Sapelo are impartial and "you're on your own" sort of places. This is a plus in some cases elsewhere but for the price, location plus Lucy's knowledge, it's really a hard value to put a price on or pass up. Lucy does a whole wonderful sit-down introduction on the apartment, safety features and goes over the island map with you. Plus, you get a CAR with the rental that generally she picks you up in at the docking hour. Mike rents most of the cars and if you want to upgrade you can do that but we had no issues with the rugged Isuzu Rodeo. We cannot emphasize enough that this is a major advantage on the island for getting one's bearings, for little trips to the store, or dock for a picnic, beaches, or just when you're tired of walking or cycling. It breaks up everything so nicely. And take note! Golf carts cannot go certain places where island vehicles can and golf carts, nor vehicles are permitted up most of the North end of the island where a lot of very cool stuff that you'll want to see is. Truth be told, in some respects, this is a "younger" person's adventure going up the North end. You'll find that you will be required to bike it and or walk it and this is NO easy task! We did nearly 50 miles of walking in 3 days both for the exercise and partly because unless you have a semi-serious mountain bike, it is very unlikely you will get to the North end on your own outside of a guided tour. For the history buff, it is well worth it, but the roads after rain are particularly prohibitive for general beach bikes (which Lucy & Mike have) and we recommend 2-3 pairs of walking shoes as some portion of the muddy areas are impassable by bike alone. We broke the North end up into 2 days on foot. Doing Raccoon Point one day, and the Western half the 2nd day that includes multiple tabby ruins sites, The Chocolate Plantation & mysterious Shell Rings. You could really justify a whole day or 2 days just to that end of the island if you wanted to track down the old duck ponds or wander off the paths as we were inclined. This is also the greater wildlife area for certain. We saw gators, otters, tons of armadillos, a wonderful pack of the elusive wild pig piglets, hawks, American Bald Eagles and sighted the wild cattle from a distance. We do recommend the day tour with JR Grovner or his father who come from the oldest descendants of the island. Sans a tour, of particular value is Lucy's library of books that range from great Sapelo history annals to those for wildlife & plant life enthusiasts. The library is part of the apartment. Lastly, let's talk about all-important cuisine. Lucy includes in her AirBnB description the phone numbers of several island cooks. There is Lula's Kitchen near Lucy & Mike's home & is worth eyeballing but is more sporadic during the offseason but if you smell her cooking, go around and knock. We were honored to have Mary Bailey cook for us and she delivered a fantastic feast of fresh flounder, shrimp & grits, biscuits, veggies, pumpkin pie, the works! Her island counterpart, Sharon (Shu-rohn) Grovner brought us meatloaf, mashed potatoes, salad, homemade mini-pies, peas, bread and was amazing too. As these women work hard all day and have to go off the island for ingredients, we opted to tip more than double their asking price which was entirely worth it to us. Oh, near Lucy's is the only island store and has limited morning, early afternoon hours. They have some basics, water, canned goods, ice cream, shrimp, oils, bug spray, sunscreen, snacks, beer & wine, but lacks in other supplies. So you MUST pack for your stay. There's a simple, but dandy kitchen in Lucy's place. The island post office is also close but closes early afternoon but be sure to swing by to get their Sapelo Island stamps as a souvenir! Lastly, Lucy & Mike live below in what you realize is their take on a kind of colonial-era tabby house. They live a fairly quiet lifestyle so you don't hear them much but they're always a phone call or knock away for any needs. As we arrived on a Sunday, they invited us to church with them at The First African Church of 1866 and it was the perfect start to our visit. The choir was amazing, Pastor Banks very uplifting and it was an honor to be introduced as guests and recognized by such a historic congregation. If you're on Sapelo on a Sunday, do not miss this opportunity. They don't seem to mind photos & video but don't forget to tythe to the church. This is perhaps the greatest closing thought we can offer and what we mean is spend everywhere you can on this island and think of how you can spend with the locals while there. For all of its virtues, it is in many ways dwindling and in an hour of great cultural & economic suffering. While the world hopes this is only temporary and a cycle or long arc to a boom or new era of prosperity, Sapelo is still at risk. This is not really the message the islanders put out there but its something that becomes quickly apparent

  • Great place and great people!

    Christopher2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice place in a VERY primitive location. Sapelo Island is only accessible by ferry and you will need to bring everything you need with you. Hosts Mike and Lucy will be on site while you are there and will pick you up from the ferry and take you to the apartment. Location is a little claustrophobic and dowdy, but benefits far outweigh deficits. Hosts will provide a full-size vehicle for you to use on the island as well as bikes and beach chairs. Apartment is a third floor walkup so if stairs are an issue for you, please keep that in mind. Water pressure is good and the water itself is pretty tasty, which can be an issue in highly sulfurous lowland areas. Hosts will provide guidance on where to go (and not go) on the island. There isn't much to do on Sapelo besides go to the beach but, Lord, what a beach! Miles of unspoiled beautiful flat sand that may hold a sea turtle for you to see (but not touch!). Fishing is good. There are gators, bugs and snakes but also beautiful wetlands birds, crabs, and amphibians. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly consider visiting again.

  • We LOVE Sapelo Island!!! Lucy’s apartment is very clean and well equipped. It is also in a great location and comes with transportation for your stay on the Island. Lucy and Mike are very kind and friendly hosts.

  • Gorgeous beaches! Friendly hosts.

  • We consider ourselves to be among the privileged few who get to spend time on this remarkable island. You can get anywhere on those sturdy bikes, and we did! (Sorry about the flat, Mike...). The apartment has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable getaway, including books on the history and flora and fauna of Sapelo. Or just ask Lucy and Mike about that amazing bird you saw at the feeder. Bring your own binoculars and you’re all set!

  • You're in for a real treat if you stay at My Sapelo Retreat. It has everything you need for a perfect beach vacation in an unusual and special place. You can't take your own car to the island, so Lucy and Mike have thoughtfully provided a car for your use. Even better, they have two bikes. I spent a day happily biking all over the beautiful island. The apartment is cozy and clean. I was very comfortable. Lucy and Mike are warm and friendly and will make you feel welcome. I highly recommend their place!

My house is a lovely two story log house with lots of character in a very scenic location on the edge of Georgia's breathtaking marsh from the master bedroom upstairs available for rent The rustic cabin intrigues both women and men both inside and out. It is decorated inside with outdoorsy items and wildlife art paintings resembling a fishing and hunting cabin, which it still is! The neighborhood is quiet, especially at night. 2nd bedroom for 2 available at airbnb.com/rooms/32742453.
Master bedroom has king sized bed with two bedside tables with lamps, two living room type upholstered chairs and dresser with mirror, closet. There is a private door directly into the shared upstairs full bathroom with unique ship's porthole window, vanity, and shower/tub combination.
From my deck and master bedroom, living room, kitchen, and downstairs full bath, I have the best view in the State of Georgia! I can see across the marsh to 30 feet deep Atwood River, where shrimp boats and tug boats pass. Beyond that, I can see the Intracoastal Waterway with passing yatchs, shrimp boats, sail boats, speed boats, and an occasional barge. Beyond that are Patterson Island, Little Sapelo Island, Big Sapelo Island, Doboy Sound, the Sapelo Lighthouse, and the Atlantic Ocean. I have a small dock on a tidal canal which allows a boat of 28 feet or less and kayaks to come into the house once a day and once a night at high tide. The Sapelo Island Ferry is just around the corner from my house, and is also visible off my deck. There is a crude launching area for boats including kayaks 16 feet or less on my canal off the causeway, and a full length boat lift and dock at a public marina four miles from my house. McIntosh County is a bird watcher's paradise on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail. Wading birds and occasional shore beach birds can be seen in the marsh in front of my deck and from the nearby causeway, and sea gulls and pelicans over Atwood River 1100 feet away. Neonatal song birds pass through my yard and woods. Wood storks roost in a freshwater pond in walking distance of my house, fly by, and nest in the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge in northern McIntosh County. Just south of Darien is the State Altamaha Waterfowl refuge where many varieties of ducks and other waterfowl feed and roost, as well as the mighty Altamaha River Biosphere being preserved by the Nature Conservancy and other non-profit land preservation organizations working with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. McIntosh County is also a freshwater and saltwater fishing paradise for bridge, dock, inshore and offshore charter fishing available 15 miles away. There are numerous public launching areas and marinas with boat lifts for boats over 28 feet long, most of which sell bait and tackle. Hunting opportunities in season on public areas or by guided hunts include deer, wild hog, ducks, marsh hens, and even alligators!
  • Jim was an excellent host and was very accommodating! The home is well-kept and very cozy. The view from the house is wonderful. I would highly recommend staying here the next time you visit the area!

    Vance2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's place is close to the Sapelo Island ferry, so we were able to spend the night and be only 5 minutes from the dock. It would be great for a weekend kayak or biking adventure. By far the best feature of Nina's Place is Jim Morrison! He knows so much history of the area and Sapelo Island. The master bedroom was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

  • It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Morrison. We felt right home immediately. The log cabin was very comfy with a beautiful view of the marsh and the islands beyond. We also enjoyed Jim's history stories and interesting tales.

  • Thank you Mr. Morrison, we enjoyed or stay before and after our adventure to Sapelo island. Great host and tour guide for the island.. great choice for a tour guide for the island if you want his unique perspective. You could take the state run tour with everyone else on a bus but you will probably not get this unique tour guide and his personal stories and his unique perspectives. You get a private tour with Jim’s take on history, wildlife and for me hunting. House is great and the room is huge with a lounging area in the room with a king size bed, bathroom is shared but we were the only one using it.

  • I highly recommend Jim as a great local guide and polite southern gentleman host. I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Morrison's storytelling about many topics including the neighboring fascinating island of Sapelo. Jim is actually a tour guide at Sapelo Island. I'd also highly recommend Jim for those who enjoy fishing and hunting. He has a wealth of local hunting and fishing understanding. His location is fantastic. The house is situated very privately with a sweeping view of the marshes and islands. It is situated just a hop and skip away from the ferry boat to Sapelo Island. The ferry leaves and returns usually three times a day. This is similar to St. Mary's and Cumberland Island's ecology, but seemingly undiscovered. I stayed in the master bedroom and it was a great hideaway. There were windows facing two directions with an incredible view of the marsh and islands. Lovely to hear and see all of the marsh birds. For those who want to completely get away from it all, this is ideal. Plenty of super interesting local books in the guest room to read. Grocery store and nice restaurants are just down the road. There's a nice walk to take from the house.

Come visit a pristine island filled with history and two pristine, undeveloped beaches and great tours to help make your stay fun and memorable. This one bedroom suite is located in a building visited by Presidents! And, it's located in one of the oldest buildings in Ga. A full kitchen and all the urban amenities but in a natural setting, you'll be relaxing before you know it. Golf cart included in the rental.
  • We had a wonderful time on Sapelo Island: from our pickup at the dock by Francine to our drop-off back at the dock two days later everything was perfect. We very much appreciated Francine's directions and tips on arrival and truly enjoyed having the golf cart to explore the island on our own. We visited three beaches and they were all pristine and absolutely beautiful! We saw deer, racoons, gators, and dolphins and enjoyed the quiet nights. Annita's place had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. We are already talking about returning sometime soon.

  • Annita's place is true to the pictures, which utilizes space quite well. We were comfortable, and centrally located on the island. We were very thankful to have the Golf Cart, and enjoyed driving it around the island!

A room with a view...Relax and unwind in a room decorated in 'southern coastal charm' overlooking the Darien River and marsh. Our rooms have king size bed, private luxury tiled bath with walk-in shower and open onto a spacious porch. We are steps away from everything Darien, Georgia has to offer: historic sites, quaint shops and fresh local seafood restaurants. Located along the Georgia Coast Birding Trail - our location is perfect for bird-watching right from the porch outside your room.
Our Bed & Breakfast is brand new! We've been in business for 9 years but built a 'new home' for our business in April of 2018. Our bright, modern and luxurious coastal home overlooking the marsh and Darien River is the perfect oasis when taking a break from I95. We are located minutes from I95 in a quiet area and just a few blocks from local restaurants, shops and historic sites.
We are located in a quiet, friendly, established neighborhood. Just 6 blocks from restaurants and shops - close enough to walk to everything and just far enough away that when sitting on the porch overlooking the marsh you feel like your miles away from everything...
  • We really enjoyed our stay, and despite the weather enjoyed the town. Very relaxing, spacious room, and view was very pleasant with the added touch of very nice deck to sit and relax.

  • My wife and I loved our stay at Darien Waterfront Inn. The view was just amazing. We couldn’t get enough of just sitting on the porch. Very comfortable room. Breakfast both days was delicious and a great B n B feel. Highly recommend and would love to visit again. Close to Jekyll Island which we explored on our first day and St Simon which we explored on our second day. Skipper Jacks for dinner near by was our favorite restaurant for dinner. All in all a great getaway!!

    Mark2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed with JoAnn at her previous physical location. Some things are the same: great hospitality, cleanliness, nice breakfast. New to me [and new in 2018] is the brand new beautiful home of the Waterfront Inn. Each of the 5 rooms have an expansive view of the marshes to the south. My room opened onto a very large and deep porch looking out over the marsh. The porch is shared - there is a seating arrangement in front of each of the rooms' double glass doors which open onto the porch. Because of the size of the porch and the difference in schedules of the guests, I had the porch to myself every time I was out there. I cannot say enough about the beauty of the view over the marsh and the overall sense of serenity from the location, which is on a residential street very conveniently located to the small center of business in Darien. On the lawn are two wooden swinging loveseats in a small clump of tall trees around one of those little outdoor woodburning stoves. The house is decorated in serene blues, aquamarines and silver grays with the occasional bit of color for accent. There are area rugs - no wall to wall carpeting - but the house isn't loud at all. The upstairs rooms share a full size refrigerator with a counter top and some cabinets [I think - I didn't use this feature]. Each room has a push button combination lock for easy access. I stayed in the Sapelo Island room which is the center room upstairs. It has a king size bed which was a luxurious memory foam with softness on the top and firmness once you're on the bed. The sheets & bedding are soft and substantial. I was able to control temperature from my room and there's an overhead light/ceiling fan as well. There are two blue upholstered chairs, and a small bookcase performs as a nightstand with lamp on one side; the other side has a nightstand with a lamp. A third lamp is on a small table between the bathroom and closet doors. The bathroom was not large but was comfortable. There's a large two drawer wash stand with compartmented drawers and a shelf at the bottom. The shower is a step in - no tub, although one of the other rooms does have a tub - with beautiful tilework in deep blue and white with a nook for shampoo, etc. Towels are extremely fluffy - I had three sets. There's a small closet which easily held clothing for 4 days plus a suitcase on the top shelf. There's a medium size flat screen TV wall mounted opposite the bed. The room isn't very large but is very comfortable. Everything is spotlessly clean and comfortable. JoAnn has a breakfast planned for each day, along with coffee and fresh fruit. I spent most of my time there outdoors enjoying some excellent weather and exploring around Darien. JoAnn and her husband live at the house as well, so they're on hand if needed.

  • JoAnn's place is a respite for the tired and restless. The Inn is a place of solace, it is quiet, wonderfully decorated, private, wonderful beds, quiet, has great coffee/breakfast and JoAnn and Dave (owners) are great hosts. The Inn has beautiful views from each guest room that transforms the restless heart and soul during and after your stay. It is great place to stay. I shall return again. Everyone should come and vacation here when in the "low country." --- Darien, GA.

But you should go here for the tranquil atmosphere, the excellent hospitality, and the back porch views. My wife and I had one goal on our trip: to relax and take a deep breath against the business of daily life. This was made possible through our stay at JoAnn’s place. Don’t hesitate to book, you won’t regret it!

  • I've been to Sapelo four times now, and this trip was the best, mostly because of the wonderful accommodations. When you can sit on the back porch with your coffee and look out at the Garden of Eden, it's a memorable trip. Such beautiful and thoughtful touches from this hostess you won't believe. • This was our first trip to Sapelo Island. We loved it! Sandra communicated to us what to expect and what we might need. BE PREPARED. You have to be ready to "relax". It is a different pace. The house is beautiful and felt very much like home. Nicely decorated and seemed brand new. Location is great, short distance to everything. Bobby met us at the dock and took us to the house. We rented the vehicle and it was definitely the right choice.

  • This island is very special, American history in a spell-binding suspension, with the backdrop of stunning natural beauty. Sandra's place is the ideal place (spacious, clean, quiet) from which to experience it. Best sleep I have had in a long time. The neighbors were so friendly, and when I went walking, every single person passing by would stop to talk or offer a ride (or a smile).

While we were there we saw herons, egrets, otters and dolphins. It’s about 35 minutes to get to St. Simons from the house. I’m looking forward to coming back when the weather is warmer.

  • Wow! This place is a true get away. The house is beautiful and the property is amazing. Plenty of space and all the conveniences of home. Watching wildlife while sitting on the deck having coffee is just the start. We spent most of our time on the beautiful private dock. We fished and caught more than enough. We crabbed as well, they also were abundant (thanks to the great host provided traps). The views from the dock and the wildlife were spectacular. Those that are wondering no cell phone issues for us, strong signals regardless of inside or out (att and straightalk). The night sky out there is incredible, clear, dark, and perfect for stargazing. Truly a one in a million place to stay.

  • Magical location and beautiful home. The area is private and filled with wildlife. More birds than I have seen, not only marsh birds … but a Bald Eagle who greeted me the first day. The inner coastal location has magnificent trees with hanging moss that gives place a unique, and magical, feel. Trees and marsh also provide cover for a extreme variety of wildlife. These trees are great hiding places … so look up and you will be surprised that even huge wood storks are easy to miss if you do not look closely. I loved this place. The home itself was enormous, fully loaded, well appointed and super clean. I have been travelling for 8 months using Airbnb rentals through the continental United States. This was my favorite place of all.

    Maha2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time! The house was spacious and we loved all the windows, and the view from the deck right out the door. The private dock was awesome for kayaking. Highly recommend.

  • James Historic Fishing Village is a wonderful cottage full of charm and ambiance. As a host, I know what it takes for 5-Star reviews and James definitely knows as well. The place is really nice with plenty of space, anything you need in the kitchen if you want to eat it and close to both Darien & Townsend if you want to visit some of the nice area restaurants. All you have to bring is your clothes. A truly unique cottage that's so comfortable and welcoming. James is available for any questions and a really nice host. We will definitely be back. This is a great find and a great value. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Camp Nina is located in one of the special places of the world, with the best view in the State of Georgia! It's right around the corner from the Sapelo Island Visitors Center and Ferry Dock. I give half day and all day tours of Sapelo Island that can be booked through airbnb experiences page by searching for Darien, GA, USA. There are numerous seafood restaurants in easy driving distance, and it's only 35 minutes from the beaches of Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island and it's night spots, etc.
Camp Nina is one of the few places in McIntosh County where the Atlantic Ocean can be seen off my deck, along with Doboy Sound, saltwater rivers and creeks where shrimp boats and tug boats dock upstream, large and small pleasure craft speed by along with sailboats and barges on the Intracoastal Waterway, with a clear view of Sapelo Island, Little Sapelo Island, Patterson Island, and many more across miles of green marsh grass that turns golden brown in the winter. The bedroom is upstairs. There is a shared full bathroom with unique ship's porthole window and bathtub/shower on the second floor off the hallway and downstairs off the living room with a step in shower.
Located in a rural setting with both pine trees and palms lining the marsh front, from my deck you can see three offshore islands, the Intracoastal Waterway, the Sapelo Island Ferry docks, Doboy Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean!
  • Jim’s place is wonderful! And he is a great host, I wish I could have spoken to him more during my stay there! But I was biking through the area so I had to keep up with the sunlight Darien is a great place to visit, really nice water and nature all over :)

    Forest2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is an awesome host! Knows tons about the area as well as the history. Makes every effort to make sure you can do the things you want to do. Comfortable sleeping area. Beautiful view of the marsh. Really enjoyed our stay.

    Dolores2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Do yourself a favor and don't pass up Jim's place it's very cool

    Mark2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is a good host and a thoughtful person. He knows a lot of history about the area and I appreciate everything we talked about. He is pretty laid back, which fits perfect with the ocean breeze of salted air, gazing out at the horizon, in a rocking chair. Sit back and enjoy the tranquility.

    Mac2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is a graceful host. The accommodation is nice and clean.

    Magda2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s home was a peaceful getaway in a tranquil location I got a good nights kip

    Steven2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Good value for the price. Very private.

    Caleb2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an out-of-the-hoopla little gem that's quiet & peaceful. Jim is a wonderful host who is very knowledgeable about the area and offers tours of Sapelo Island. If you are looking for some localized Zen that is affordable and easy going then this is the place for you. It is a short drive from the more commercialized St. Simon's Island and Jekyll Island is quite close as well. A lot of bang for your buck! It's not on the beaches but it's close and offers a unique experience of the surrounding areas.

Newly built private cottage. Oaks of Eden. Set among towering live oaks cottage is like a fairy tail escape nestled in lush ferns, palmettoes and live oaks. Private screened porch and bicycles. Follow path to the observation deck to gaze over marsh and tidal creeks. Centrally located on Georgia's coast a perfect place to use as headquarters and take day trips to Savannah, various barrier islands (Sapelo Island, Saint Simons Island, Jekyll Island) and the Okefenokee. Tax is included in rate.
Quiet off the beaten path and custom built.
The property and surrounding area is one of the finest birding and nature locations on the coast. Great areas for walking, cycling and kayaking. Quiet, friendly, secluded neighborhood. Close to the Sapelo Island ferry and Visitor Center. Minutes from exceptional nature and birding venues including Harris Neck Wild Life Refuge.
  • This adorable cottage was perfect for our one night stay. It has everything we needed, a super comfy bed and a gorgeous back yard. The owner, Janice, was very accommodating and super nice. We would love to stay again one day if we are on the area!

    Whitney2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Oaks of Eden was a great place to stay! We appreciated all of the advice about local things to do.

    Alex2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable secluded cottage was perfect for anniversary getaway with my hubby. About 9.5 miles from tiny town of Darien. We paddled the Altamaha River with kayaks we brought. Janice gave me helpful tips and the cottage had lots of maps and guides for local area attractions. We also ate at Skippers Fish Camp and had wine and grapefruit beer at Horse Creek Winery Tasting Room in nearby Darien. We visited Savannah which was about an hour drive. The people are so nice and friendly in the area. The cottage property had a larger house a couple hundred feet away across the driveway which looked to be under renovation, but nobody was there or working on it while we were there. Larger house in the back of property with access to salt marsh viewing platform/dock was also empty when we were there. Perfect place for us. The only concern I had was no carbon monoxide detector, which Airbnb warned about early on, but I was not aware the stove was gas, must not have read that detail. I would definitely recommend bringing your own carbon monoxide detector.

    Kelly2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was great! Extremely comfortable in the midst of a sanctuary. The neighborhood people were welcoming and friendly! It is a bit out of Darien but well worth the drive. I enjoyed a Saturday night glass of wine at the fire pit over looking the marsh as well as a Sunday morning walk across the causeway with a great group of ladies, thank you Mary. The oaks of eden cottage was a perfect home away from home for the month. I highly recommend!

Historic home built in the 1880's with all the modern conveniences you'd expect. Steps away from downtown Darien. Come enjoy the all the amazing nature and shopping that Darien and the Golden Isles offer, all while relaxing in this renovated home built over 130 years ago.
Two living rooms and a reading room make for great space to spread out and relax. A large HD TV with surround sound and HD programming will appeal to movie fans and help pass the time. A reading day bed is great for book worms who want to enjoy some silent time. This house has it all.
Darien is an unique town unlike any other in Georgia. There is not a stoplight in the county, yet, you are 15 minutes away from Starbucks and any shopping you could ever need in Brunswick and St. Simons. The nature here is unbelievable and should be experienced.
  • Jeff’s place was a wonderful place to get away from the cold PA weather. Darien is a wonderful small town centrally located to be able to take day trips to all the Georgian Islands and northern FL. From the home in this quiet neighborhood you have the ability to walk to restaurants, grocery and historical sites. The home is comfortable with lots of space. Jeff has provided everything you will need for your stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. This home deserves more than 5 stars!!!

  • Our family of 7 and our dog stayed at the 1880s house while exploring St. Simon’s and Jekyll Islands for the weekend. We love the area and this was a perfect little sleepy spot for us to retire back to in the evenings. This was our first Airbnb experience so we weren’t sure exactly what to expect. The whole family loved the uniqueness and charm of the 1880s house. It was far more spacious, comfortable and clean than any hotel room and we would stay again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend!

    Matthew2019-09-29T00:00:00Z

Darien is centrally located along the coast making any destination along the Georgia coast an easy day trip. Beaches of Jekyll and Saint Simons Islands, remote barrier islands, Savannah, Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge, Sapelo Island, the Okefenokee and the Altamaha River are just some of many places of interest. Because we have our own shrimp fleet restaurants in and around Darien serve the freshest seafood on the coast.
  • Starfish Cottage is charming. The modern appointments are clean and stylish. Although we didn't eat any meals there, the kitchen was well equipped with cooking essentials. Safe and quiet location not far from a small but quaint downtown area. Our host was excellent about communicating just what we needed to know, just when we needed to know it. She also left information about the area for us to peruse. I can highly recommend this option for anyone interested in the lowlands area. Reasonable distance from many area islands, as well as Brunswick and Savannah.

This wonderful rustic cottage is a great place to get away. Tucked back in the beautiful Sapelo Island forest just minutes from the beach. Our home is in a very private location being away from any main roads. We have a wonderful 14' deck that wraps the house to sit out and enjoy the island breeze and listen to the ocean waves. The home was built in 2005 and has modern appliances and bathrooms. There is satellite TV, WI-FI and a land line phone. Since pictures were taken, there are now new flat screen smart TVs in the house as well. There is a passenger van included in the rental! It's nothing too fancy but it gets you around the island. No guest should ever drive to the north end of the island. There will be a fee and transportation will be revoked if you are caught on the north end and especially if you get bogged down in my van. There is no grocery store on the island. All groceries must be purchased prior to taking the ferry over from Meridian. Meals may be arranged through locals on the island at least 2-3 weeks in advance. There are tours available through the Sapelo Island Visitors Center as well as through a few island locals. • Jackson's place is just grand! This was the second trip of our Cabretta Island crew and we'll be back for more. The house is big, comfortable, and well equipped for a large crew and in a location that makes getting around to explore very easy. Eight of us slept comfortably, lounged on the big, expansive front porch, played cards, sat around the kitchen island to share our meals and stories. We cooked dinner every night, walked Cabretta and Nanny Goat beaches, rode bicycles, fished in the creek, took photos, built campfires, and more. Perfect, perfect!! Our group highly recommends Jackson's place.

  • Sapelo Island is amazing and Weekend at Bernie’s is the best place to stay for sure! From the “salty” gator in Blackbeard Creek at Cabretta Beach to the shark that stole three metal leaders to the nine mullet in one cast to the amazing truck that got us everywhere we needed to go!!!! The front porch was so relaxing and the whole house did not disappoint! Gracie was an amazing host and thanks for saving our cast nets!

  • What a grand place for a trip to Sapelo! This large, well-stocked, beautifully situated home was perfect for our group's week on the island. We fished, walked the beaches, enjoyed a craft project on the expansive porch, walked the neighborhoods, experienced the nature trail leading to Nanny Goat, cooked feasts for dinner, and more. Having a van that accommodated our group was a real bonus. Jackson was easy to communicate with and extremely accommodating. You cannot go wrong here - we love Sapelo and were thrilled to have such a wonderful spot to continue our memory making on the island.

    Heidi2018-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Jackson's place for my daughter's wedding on the island. It was the prefect spot for our family to gather the night before the festivities and a truly relaxing place to return to each night. The porch is spectacular! We had 14 people for dinner on the porch one night and woke up there with coffee to the sound of birds. If you want a secluded retreat from the world, bounded by a beautiful setting and great amenities, this is it! We will return for sure...

This is a comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood graced with Spanish Moss draped Live Oaks. It is walking/ bicycling distance from downtown Darien, historic squares, parks, and waterfront as well as shops and restaurants. Kayak and bike rentals are available close by. The home is one hour south of Savannah and 30 minutes to the lovely beaches of Jekyll and Sapelo Islands. This area is certainly a birder's paradise!
Frog Hammock has an open plan common area with a barstool counter in the fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, and front and rear sitting/ living rooms. One bedroom has a private bathroom with a shower. The other two share a bathroom with tub off of the common area. There is a laundry room with washer/dryer. There is a front porch with a glider to enjoy the Live Oak. Here is a private review we received.."We had a wonderful time and felt right at home. The "seclusion" was right there within the city limits. Lots of places to enjoy the wildlife and for fishing. The neighbors were friendly, but allowed us our privacy. We hope to live in or around Darien someday (after retirement). The art in your place was wonderful. The azaleas were beautiful. Thank you for sharing." Dolly and Edward
Darien is a charming historic town on the waterfront. The house is conveniently located for walking, bicycling, or driving to many places to sightsee, beach comb, bird watch, and eat local southern fare. The St. Andrews Cemetery is but a few hundred yards away and is quite a beautiful place… all in an easy bike ride from Darien and Frog Hammock. Kitchen area is spacious and functional for preparing group/family meals. Once the patio area is fully finished too, I'm sure this spot will be an even more desirable chill/vacation spot!

    Ashley2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful home is perfect for large families. It was a comfortable space for my family of 7. We had plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably, hang out in the living room and share a meal at the dining room table. Jack and Sylvian have thought of everything from providing necessities in the bathroom to a well-stocked kitchen for preparing a meal. We appreciated all of the little touches that made the house cozy and comfortable. My favorite part of the home was having my morning coffee on the front porch. The location is perfect to visit nearby St. Simons Island and close enough for a day trip to Savannah. I highly recommend this lovely home!

  • Trendy boutique hotel in the quaint town of Darien. Wonderful waterfront view and location. A big plus is being steps away from Skippers Fish Camp, an amazing seafood restaurant.

    Susanne2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with great views at a great price. Easy access to St. Simons, Sea Island and Jekyll without paying the expensive island rates. Room was very clean. Loved having drinks and yummy food on the deck at Skipper’s behind the inn, watching the baby alligators while the sun set on the water. Quiet hours begin at 10 pm, which we found annoying - tv off and speak only in a whisper due to noise carrying between rooms - but that’s just a personal preference.

    Mary Catherine2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • My son and I enjoyed our stay and getting to know some of the locals. It was great allowing him to walk to breakfast alone down the street, he felt grownup.

  • This place is really nice. The furnishings are tastefully done and the lobby is very welcoming. Great location, super view, SUPER clean and convenient to restaurants. I have stayed here twice on trips to and from Florida and hope to again in the future. It's quiet, you have a nice back balcony from which you can see the river. I felt safe and highly recommend this place. I have eaten at Skipper's Fish Camp and enjoyed both meals, a breakfast voucher is included for Zio Carlos Italian Café - get the breakfast sandwich!! Also, I had lunch at B and J's Steaks and Seafood. It's a local place with local flavor and the food it very good. There are 7 rooms in this boutique hotel. Each one has a balcony with seating for 2.

  • Such a cute, quaint little gem off the 95. My mother, son and I were on our way down to Florida when we stayed here overnight. It’s right by the water and has a few local restaurants nearby. The room was spotless, as well as unique and charming. A little noisy with the cars from the restaurant across the street, but nothing terrible! Thanks for a great stay!
