Places to stay in Rushlake Green

Places to stay in Rushlake Green
You’ll love my place because of the wonderful views across open countryside, the spiral staircase and the tree growing through the balcony. It's as close as you can get to a treehouse with all the comforts of home. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.
Gorgeously romantic detached annex with stunning views across an area of outstanding natural beauty. Generously proportioned studio room with French doors to large private balcony with large tree growing through it. Spiral staircase to downstairs kitchenette and shower room. Access to beautiful shared garden which backs onto open fields. Sleeps 2 very comfortably. Self catering. It's on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road in places. There are lots of public footpaths including one that goes through next door's land and down through fields to the woods. Treetops is an ideal retreat or lovenest - it's wonderful space for getting away from it all and right into the countryside; to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature; to heal, create music or art or to study. It's very much a cosy country property rather than a stylish hotel setting but it's nicely and very comfortably furnished in rustic style. Horses clop along the lane outside and birdsong fills the air. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at weekends. There's a deck with a shared hot tub and a patio with a built-in barbecue and seating which you are welcome to use. Should you require a bottle of chilled champagne on arrival this can be arranged with the owner. Treetops has undergone major renovations recently, including a new balcony made of local Sussex oak by local craftsmen in the traditional Sussex style. The bathroom now has a new white suite with much bigger shower and a heated towel rail. Upstairs it has new carpet, curtains, rug, cushions, TV, mattress, pillows, linen, blinds, a power socket with USB points, a little dressing table with a mirror and hairdryer and a more romantic light above the bed. The kitchen has new quarry tiles on the floor, new worktops, sink, an integrated oven and glass hob and the washing machine, which has only been used 3 times in as many years, has been replaced with a dishwasher, which will hopefully get more use and make guests feel properly off-duty and relaxed! Speaking of additions to the garden to help people relax, the new hot tub spa is a wonderful place to wind down and de-stress. It's on a deck in the middle of the garden overlooking the fields and hills beyond for miles and it really is blissful. However, having read the instructions it's not suitable for children under 8 (for safety and hygiene reasons) and two new Shepherd Huts (Meadowsweet and Heartsease) have been built at the bottom of the garden for couples. To avoid disappointing people, especially children, and to ensure the shared facilities are not over-populated, the maximum number of guests allowed in Treetops is now 2 and they need to be adults. If you would like to book for a larger group of adults it is now possible to book Treetops, Heartsease and Meadowsweet at the same time. Please see our other listings for more details and to check availability: www.airbnb.com/h/heartseasehut and www.airbnb.com/h/meadowsweethut. The owner is a music teacher and 2nd degree Reiki practitioner who lives in the main house with one child. Reiki treatments can be arranged during your visit and other therapists can visit to offer Aromatherapy massage and Reflexology sessions. (Please note that prior notice is needed and that sometimes staff are not available due to other commitments). Although smoking is not allowed inside, it is permitted on the balcony.
Herstmonceux is a lovely little Sussex village with a pub (the Brewers Arms), a French brasserie (The Sundial), a fish and chip shop that also does very good burgers, chicken, halloumi and pies (The Willows) and a really good Indian restaurant (Eastern Promise). We've got two convenience stores and a few other shops. It's about 15 mins walk to the village from Treetops. If you don't mind driving or longer walks, there are plenty of good pubs that serve excellent food within easy reach. The Merrie Harriers in Cowbeech is about a mile a half away and it's a favourite amongst locals - a very traditional pub with beams and ingelnook fireplaces, good food and beer and a lovely garden. The White Horse in Bodle Street is at the other end of the lane and does good pub food and has a nice atmosphere. The Bull's Head in Boreham Street (about a mile and a half) have a beautiful garden and do great food including excellent home made pies. The Lamb in Wartling (near the castle) is similar but more gourmet (and pricier) and the Giant's Rest (by the Long Man) is also very good after a walk through the countryside. Tucked away in historically rich 1066 country it is ideally located for walking, horse riding, cycling and painting. For nature lovers there is an abundance of local bird life and the nearby marshes and levels on the way to the beach at Pevensey (15 minutes by car), where there's another castle. 5 mins from the South Downs National Park it is within easy reach of Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Brighton, Ashdown (Pooh Bear) Forest and Forest Row Country Park. There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, falconry, archery, pottery, the windmill at Windmill Hill, and of course, Herstmonceux Castle and the Science Centre and Observatory. You can go sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding from Eastbourne or Cuckmere. Flying experiences/lessons can also be booked locally. Other nearby attractions include Bateman's (Rudyard Kipling's house), the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, Standen House in East Grinstead (a treasure trove for lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement), Great Dixter House and Gardens in Northiam, Scotney Castle Garden in Lamberhurst, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington.

  • We had a lovely time staying here!! Despite storm Dennis making an appearance we still made the most of our time. Sam was an extremely helpful host and we didn’t feel like anything was too much trouble. We really enjoyed all the VHS tapes which kept us entertained during the storm and the hot tub was an added bonus! We are home feeling very relaxed (the bed is incredibly comfy) and would definitely stay again!

  • My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Treetops as a weekend getaway from the city and it was absolutely perfect. Sam was a lovely host, the space is beautiful and cosy. The place is a short walk to the village, and a short drive to other great local visits (long country walks, castles and lots of pubs). We especially enjoyed the hot tub to relax after a long walk! Highly recommend booking to stay with Sam :)

  • Our stay at Ian and Isi’s shepherds hut was everything we wanted and more! The hut itself is wonderful. So cosy and beautifully decorated with everything you could possibly need. Ian and Isi have gone out of their way to ensure everything is covered from walking and cycling routes in the guest manual, to complimentary bikes. The little touches they have added such as freshly baked brownies and a delicious breakfast each morning are the icing on the cake. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding areas, but in all honestly, you don’t even need to leave the Farm. It’s the perfect place to escape for a relaxing weekend and Ian and Isi are the perfect hosts. We will most definitely return!

  • Claire and Rob are such a lovely host and have been more than helpful. They made me feel like going home everyday. They always wanted to know if there is anything else I need. They have offered more than just a bed and breakfast, something much more valuable than that. Thanks so much and I will defiantly go back when I come to the area again.

  • We arrived pretty late because of a hectic day but Claire and Robert greeted us with open arms and couldn’t do enough to help. They have a wonderful home in a lovely area. The room was so homely and clean with lots of little thoughtful bits and pieces. A special thank you to Claire for washing some of my boyfriends clothes! Really went above and beyond. Amazing homemade jam and crumpets for breakfast. En-suite room was perfect for us and we felt like we were staying in a hotel as it was so peaceful and private. We had a lovely chat with Claire before we left and she is a wonderful lady!

  • Claire and Robert are lovely hosts, offering a sparkling clean and very comfortable bedroom with ensuite shower in a quiet neighborhood. It was very pleasant chatting with them, with just the right amount of friendliness and privacy, and they offered some helpful advice on places to visit or try for lunch/dinner in the area. A last minute booking which delivered much more than expected!

  • It was such a lovely stay. I was looking for a weekend outside the city and was on the look-out for nature, a bath and a fire place and got it all. Staying at Karen and Mike‘s place was such a great break that instead of waking up early as I thought I deeply slept in. They are a warm welcoming couple who made sure I safely arrived at their place with Mike picking me up and dropping me off again when it was time to leave. I got great recommendations and made discoveries I wouldn’t have thought off. The breakfast was such a treat and I feel fully rested going home. Thank you both plus Oscar the dog (loving little gem) for this great break!

Based just off the main High Street (the A265) in Burwash, East Sussex. Cairndale gives guests a traditional, quirky, English style, 1930's built cottage experience with many of its period and original features still intact. Primarily suitable as an accommodation base to explore this beautiful English village, famous for being the home of author Rudyard Kipling. Additionally it is less than a 5 min walk along from local pubs, eateries, shops and close to public footpaths across the High Weald.
1 double bedroom with an en-suite shower, 1 double bedroom, 1 bathroom and toilet, country style kitchen with dishwasher, oven and large fridge freezer, living room with Digital Freeview TV and Netflix.
Burwash is a rural village and civil parish in the Rother District of East Sussex, England. Situated fifteen miles (24 km) inland from the South Coast port of Hastings, it is located five miles (8 km) south-west of Hurst Green, on the A265 road, and on the River Dudwell, a tributary of the River Rother. In an area steeped in history, some nine miles (14 km) to the south-east lies Battle Abbey and eight miles (13 km) to the east is Bodiam Castle. Its main claim to fame is that for half of his life Rudyard Kipling lived in the village at Bateman's. Kipling used the house's setting and the wider local area as the setting for many of his stories in Puck of Pook's Hill and the sequel Rewards and Fairies. There is a Kipling room at "The Bear" public house, one of two pubs located along Burwash High Street. Rudyard's son John Kipling, known as Jack, fell during World War I and is named on the village memorial at the end of Bell Alley Lane. He was named after Rudyard's father, the artist John Lockwood Kipling, C.I.E. who provided illustrations for the classic story collection The Jungle Book. A complete collection of Kipling's works, including Just So Stories, Rewards and Fairies, The Man Who Would Be King and Kim, was published as the "Burwash Edition".

The house is one of a pair of cottages in the Iwood hamlet, a mile from Rushlake Green. The cottages were built for staff of the 18th century iron masters house, granary and barn, which is the core of the hamlet. Although the barn, granary and cart lodge are now all converted to homes, it is still a snapshot of rural life in the 18th century. The area is criss-crossed with footpaths, and there are lovely walks across the fields and through the woods to Rushlake Green, Cowbeech and Bodle Street. In the streams you will see the rust from the ironstone, which was used for making canons back in the 17th and 18th centuries . Locally you can visit Herstmonceux Castle, and Mickleham Priory. There is the annual Air show at Eastbourne ( 14 miles away), also the pier and beaches. Only 25 minutes away, we're an ideal bed and breakfast venue for the Glyndebourne Festival , for which we can arrange hampers and taxis. Also within in easy reach are Sissinghurst Castle and garden, Bodiam Castle, Battle Abbey, Great Dixter, and Batemans at Burwash . Further afield are Lewes, Brighton, Rye and Tenterden. In the room there is a folder with details of places to eat and visit locally. There are sample menus from some of the local eateries and we are happy to give some guidance, as we have tried most of them.
  • Beautiful setting, lovely room with every thing you could need, great breakfast and hospitality. I would recommend to any couple.

  • Room for Two is a gem of a retreat, and we found it a lovely, comfortable base for our weekend celebrating our anniversary. It is tucked away in a really peaceful location and, being separate from the main house, with it's own facilities, including space to sit outside and walk in the garden, it felt really private. Sara was on hand to welcome us, and easily contactable if we needed her. There is a well stocked fridge of breakfast items, and beautiful cooked breakfasts were delivered to our room both mornings on request. The space was clean and had everything we required. It has a comfortable bed, space to sit and eat and a lovely bathroom. The skies were so clear and free of light pollution, the stars were amazing to see and we were very fortunate with lovely weather. I love East Sussex, and would highly recommend Room for Two for a lovely country retreat. Thank you Sara.

  • What a wonderful time! Sara and Patrick's house is a gorgeous place whit all the amenities one can desire. It's difficult to include everything in few lines, so I can just say: go there and see what it is! They are kind and welcoming, flexible and willing to help. The location is just stunning and is perfect to totally relax. The cottage is sparkling clean and much better than in the pictures. We would definitely go back there soon!

    Francesca2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Sara's place is perfect. I booked for a quiet retreat by myself and I got a lot more. It's so peaceful and private. I sunbathed all day on the patio that opens up from your room. There was a beautiful wild flowers garden, loads of birds and you hear horses near by. It's just beautiful. The room is stunningily decorated and do many extra touches to the room, you won't need to leave it once.

    Elizabeth2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sara and Patrick were absolutely charming hosts. Their converted stable is spacious, beautifully decorated and with everything you could possibly want. It's a perfect location for an idyllic weekend in the country. The views of rolling hills from the patio and private garden are to die for. Sara's fantastic cooked breakfast was an added delight!

    Clare2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about our stay at 'Room for Two' was delightful! The room, which is separate from the main house, is a cosy and private hideaway set in the beautiful East Sussex countryside. The love and attention to detail that's been spent creating the space is immediately obvious. A tastefully curated blend of comfortable luxury but retaining the charm and character of a comfortable home. All the thoughtful little touches like a tin of biscuits by the kettle and bubble bath in the bathroom quickly add up to an experience that feels wholly nourishing. Kind of the feeling you'd get from spending a weekend at your grandma's, if only she lived in a high end boutique hotel! Rounding off the whole experience is the discrete but attentive hospitality that Sara provides. Communications were clear and timely, checkin and checkout a breeze, the breakfasts delicious and local knowledge / recommendations spot on. A fantastic place to stay to explore the East Sussex coast or simply escape for a relaxing weekend away.

  • A beautiful property with a lovely rural location. Walks from the property, and really friendly welcoming hosts. Particularly liked the milk frother, it’s gone on the Christmas list 😂.

    Ian2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was not just a perfect location for the wedding we were attending but a beautiful room with everything you could ask for a weekend getaway for two. Sara makes a mean cooked breakfast and is a fantastic host!

  • I’d highly recommend Jacks Cottage for a weekend stay. It was clean and well maintained throughout, and has beautiful country views! Melissa was an excellent host and helped with any queries and gave recommendations about the local area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would book again

  • Lovely location, the walk to the Star Inn and back is well worth it. Well worth a stay

    Stephen2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we've stayed in the cottage, and it was just as good! A lovely fire in the woodburner, luxurious bath upstairs and stunning views all around.

    Jamey2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect peaceful getaway. The views from the fields off the back of the cottage are stunning. Cottage is cosy with stylish touches, a real retreat; plenty to do new nearby or just enjoy doing nothing; feels really secluded. Melissa was thoughtful and easily contacted should we have needed anything. Late check out given without request which was a real delight as we didn't want to leave! Wish we could have stayed longer but we would definitely come back!

    Nadia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jacks Cottage is quite frankly spectacular. A beautiful, airy and idyllic barn with stunning views of the Sussex countryside. Really cosy and homely place to stay (with the freestanding bath being a personal highlight) I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting a quiet few days away or to use as a base to go exploring around Sussex and Kent.

    Thomas2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa is an amazing host. She showed great hospitality and very quick in responding. We had a weekend escape with my family. The cottage has a beautiful garden and very close to one walking path to the local pub. The kitchen was fully equipped and there were enough staff(spices, tea, coffee, sugar, bread etc) to prepare breakfast. Melissa also left some complimentary items in the fridge (many thanks for those) . Beds were very comfy. Certainly recommend having a Sunday roast at the Star Inn pub. Over all, we enjoyed our stay very much.

  • A lovely cosy lodge with all the amenities you could possibly need. A great way to wind down the old year and begin the new! Very central for visiting such places as Lewes and Eastbourne and lots of great walks for the dog. We were made very welcome by Lisa and would certainly visit again.

  • This is the perfect place for a secluded relaxing break. We have found our winter retreat, and have already booked to come again. The lodge is immaculate, and everything has been thought of. We used the kitchen to cook a lovely meal. Nice large bath with taps in the middle, and the bed is huge. Nice walks with our dog, who also enjoyed a weekend away, and easy access to local towns and shops.

    Gary2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge was an excellent place to stay, with everything you would need for a great weekend. Spotlessly clean with plenty of room. Nice garden surrounds with a decked area to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. Gus the dog was great, very friendly and full of life and loved being played with. Will definitely stay there again

    Linda2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This lodge was exceptional. For us it was all about the dog. The garden was fully enclosed so he was safe with a little dog gate in the fence so we could take him out on walks - the garden backed on to fields and woods - marvelous. The verandah where you could sit and enjoy the scenery. The layout of the Lodge which had everything we needed. The gorgeous Labrador Gus who was so happy to play with our dog. The friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts Lisa and Keith. The location. We actually didn't want to leave. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

    Portia2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful place! It was perfectly clean, brilliant from out and inside. Also we've been welcomed by their handsome boy Gus who played with Max as they know each other for ages. The best stay so far. Highly recommend!

Our guest Garden Room is a light and airy space separate from the main house, furnished in a simple uncluttered style. It has it's own private entrance and garden area with seats. The nearest village Waldron, half a mile away, has a pub and Norman Church. Midway between the stunning coastal scenery of the South Downs National Park and the High Weald, ideally placed for a variety of Sussex and Kent attractions. Batemans, home of Rudyard Kipling, Battle and '1066 country' are a short drive away.
The kitchenette allows guests to make hot drinks and eat bought in meals, it is not a full kitchen for meal preparation. It has a kettle, toaster, and fridge. The bathroom has a shower over bath, toilet, and basin.
Our house is on a quiet rural lane overlooking woods and fields. Heathfield, the nearest town, has a good range of shops and a regular market. There are plenty of National Paths and Cycle routes through the local area. We can provide covered storage for bicycles, and there are local guides and maps for reference. Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters are about 15 miles south. The Spa town of Tunbridge Wells is 15 miles north.

Located in a glorious, peaceful rural setting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the High Weald of East Sussex, our annex offers the perfect get-away for a relaxing, peaceful stay in beautiful countryside. Although situated in the depths of the countryside, we are only a 10 minute drive from the market town of Hailsham which has a good selection of shops and supermarkets (Waitrose, Tesco, Asda).
The accommodation, also known as 'Badgers Rest' (we have lots of badgers living in the adjacent woods!) consists of a lovely spacious and light open-plan area with comfortable king size bed, sofa, TV and fold-away table and chairs. A hair dryer is also provided. The kitchen is small, but well equipped with fridge, ceramic hob, combination microwave/oven/grill, kettle, toaster, pots, pans and crockery and glasses. Tea, coffee (fresh and instant), sugar and milk are also provided. The bathroom consists of a bath and Aqualisa power shower which is over the bath and large electric heated towel rail. The annex is equipped with its own washing machine, iron and ironing board.
Old Studdens is a Sussex farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th Century. The house and annex are situated at the end of a small country lane, surrounded by beautiful woodlands and countryside so if you are looking for a peaceful, rural setting, this is it! There are beautiful country and woodland walks from the front door, or alternatively the South Downs National Park is only a short drive away. The local area has much to offer, whether it is exploring the historic town of Battle (10 miles away), relaxing on the seafront in Eastbourne (14 miles away), soaking up the atmosphere of the Lanes in Brighton (25 miles away) or just simply sampling the delights of one of the many excellent pubs in the local vicinity. We are also ideally situated for anyone attending Glyndebourne, which is only 14 miles away. We are delighted to offer any help or advice to our guests regarding the local area. Our aim is to make your stay both comfortable and memorable.
  • The place was beautiful and cosy, and was wonderful for a nights getaway. Fiona was a gracious host and really helpful, and we felt very welcome staying there. It was a really easy check in as well. Would definitely stay there again!

  • The annexe has everything you need for a break in the countryside. We were staying there in order to attend a wedding at Blackstock Country Estate so didn't get much chance to explore the area, but the annexe itself is lovely, Fiona was extremely helpful and we were perfectly comfortable. We would recommend this location to others.

This is a cosy old cottage annexe in the mid-Sussex countryside, with easy access to numerous public footpaths, the Cuckoo Trail, Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells and Lewes. Hosts on site to offer you a warm welcome. It is close to Heathfield with a good selection of cafe's, restaurants and takeaways. Heathfield also has an excellent Deli (great selection of Italian wines), renowned for its Friday 'Pizza Night'.
The cottage is the original part of this house and dates from the mid-1800's. A cottage industry thrived here for many years, where Mrs Eliza Foord, and then her son Thomas, made ginger beer, lemonade and other soft drinks for the thirsty farm workers. In the local streams one can still find remnants of the old glass bottles, in particular the pointed-bottom ones that the farm workers used to push into the ground to keep them upright. The cottage is full of character, offering old world charm with modern facilities. Guests will have a separate entrance, a breakfast room and a lounge with a log burning stove for their sole use. There is a pantry (low ceiling) where there are tea and coffee making facilities, a toaster, fridge, sink as well as a microwave for the preparation of easy meals. There is ample off road parking, free Wi-Fi for guests and use of the large garden. This is an ideal spot to spend a peaceful and relaxing time. The price listed is for double occupancy. Extra guests are charged at £25 each per night.
Set in the Sussex Weald there is a wealth of things to see in the area. There are numerous public footpaths in the vicinity, including the renowned Cuckoo Trail and the Sustrans Cycle Route 21 passes close by. A short drive will get you to Eastbourne, Lewes, Tunbridge Wells or Battle as well as the Ashdown Forest with its famous Pooh-Sticks bridge at Hartfield. A little further will get you to the famous medieval town of Rye or the seaside resorts of Brighton and Hastings. The Bluebell Railway is a must for the steam enthusiast or anyone who would like to take an interesting step back in time. For younger guests there is also Blackberry Farm Park, Drusillas Zoo and Knockhatch Adventure Park. There is a wealth of country pubs in the area serving a good range of food.
  • The cottage was excellent and the hosts could not be anymore helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

    Peter2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Ann's place. Ann was there to welcome us and we really appreciated the guidance on local walks. We were able to walk to the Cuckoo Trail from the cottage and whilst we weren't able to cycle it (we left the bikes at home due to Storm Dennis), the route was a great option for a walk on a very wet and windy day where the local clay footpaths were challenging. On the night we arrived, we went to Cucola, the deli in Heathfield. On Fridays, they have a pizza van outside and we had some of the best pizzas we've had in a long time. Whilst waiting, we got a glass of wine and chatted to the locals. The guy who runs Cucola was really friendly and told us about the walking tours he runs in Italy. The accommodation was ideal for our weekend getaway from London. We appreciated the wood burning stove post-walk and the beds were really comfy. The kitchen facilities were fine for making some breakfast and preparing cold plates - there are lots of pubs within a short drive and several of the main supermarket chains have a presence in Heathfield. The place was good value and I'd definitely recommend it.

  • A sweet cottage in a lovely location. Ann is a great host and we enjoyed the space indoors and out. Just one thing: the property is very old and some doors and ceilings are low, so remember to duck!

  • What a charming place! We had a wonderful stay at Ann's beautiful cottage. The cottage itself is traditional, cosy and kept to a very high standard. It was incredible to have a real fire in the living room area. Ann was so helpful and responsive throughout our booking process and during our stay. We were also delighted to have such a lovely breakfast! Overall, this place is the perfect tranquil getaway and so close to London so perfect for a weekend!

  • Had a fantastic girly weekend at Christy & Nick’s gorgeous annex. Everything was spotless and brand new. The wood burner was such a nice treat as it was freezing outside and the kitchen was lovely and new. Couldn’t have asked for anything better!

    Lucy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, cozy and comfortable Annex is a perfect place for access to Heathfield and all the great sites in the area. It was easy to find and is very peaceful. Christy is a wonderful host and we couldn’t ask for anything more!

    Laura2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a little gem! We have just had the best 4 night stay in Christy's stylish and cosy annex. It was lovely accommodation for our little family of 4; beautifully presented, with a place for everything and all the facilities and home comforts you could wish for. We especially loved the wood burner and also the shower was excellent. Plenty of shops just a few minutes away. We didn't try the local pubs as we ate out at lunch times further afield and had evenings in, but we can recommend the indian takeaway which Christy recommends, and they delivered ! We can also recommend Bateman, the home of Rudyard Kipling which is just 10 minutes away and is worth a visit. We would love to stay in the annex again and explore more of the grounds and woods when it is less rainy.

    Abi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Christy’s place is a super snug, private little spot, really close to the heart of town. We loved the cosy bed, deep bath, huge SMEG fridge and the chance to be out in woodland straight from the front door. We felt warmly welcome right from the start and had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay.

    Sarah-Jane2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect little getaway! Me and my 2 girl friends stayed Friday to Sunday & it was perfect for what we needed! A lovely welcome from Christy & Nick showing us all the great amenities on arrival, which made us feel so welcome! The place is perfect! The shower was the best I've ever used & overall a really cute lodge. I dont think the photos do it justice! If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, to chill out with a log burner, in a lovely peaceful location with lots of local shops etc, its perfect! The little details like a local guide book, nice thick duvet and kitchen essentials is perfect!

The wood burner is a lovely addition and made for a very cosy nights stay. Communication before the stay was excellent and Christy and Nick were very friendly, welcoming hosts. Lots of nice little touches including some retro games which we loved playing with our children! Great location with lots to do in the local area, nice walks and close to shops and places to eat. All in all a great stay in a lovely place and one we would love to return to.

Heartsease is one of two extra-large (6m x 2.4m) Shepherds huts retreats at the bottom of the owner's beautiful rural garden, overlooking miles of rolling countryside. There's a super-comfortable kingsize bed, a kitchenette, a seating/dining area and a luxury shower room. It feels like you're in the fields but there's no long walk with luggage and all mod cons including excellent wifi. There's a little patio with a bistro set and recliners. Access to shared garden with BBQ and hot tub.
Tucked away down a little lane with trees meeting over the top in places, 15 minutes walk from the charming Sussex village of Herstmonceux, nestle Heartsease and her sister hut Meadowsweet. Designed to be the perfect antidote to the stress of modern urban life without sacrificing any of its creature comforts or modern connectivity, they enjoy uninterrupted views across an area of outstanding natural beauty and still have very civilized bathroom arrangements, TVs, strong wifi and reception. Horses clop down the lane and the air is filled with bird song. At night you can hear owls. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at night and weekends. There's a private patio especially for you and a deck with a shared hot tub and a much larger shared patio with a built-in barbecue and seating which you are welcome to use. Should you require a bottle of chilled champagne on arrival this can be arranged with the owner. Newly built and finished to a high standard, the huts offer a level of comfort far beyond what might have been available to a shepherd in times gone by. Much bigger than a traditional hut, each has more than enough room for the king-size bed which has a 3000 pocket sprung mattress topped with memory foam, goose feather/down duvets and pillows, high quality linen, deliciously supersoft blankets and a sumptuous array of cushions to lounge on whilst you drink in the magnificent view. Heartsease is the furthest hut from the main house and the nearest to the fields behind the garden, which are often occupied by sheep or horses. The windows in the bed area are dual aspect and you can look out and feel like you're right in amongst the animals but actually you're a few feet the other side of the fence and a few yards from your car. There are fairy lights around the bed for night time and large bunkers with lids for your things at the end of the bed that can also be somewhere to put a cup or plate on if you're sitting there. Unlike some huts, our beds are normal height and fixed in position, so there is no need to rearrange anything before going to bed or climb to get there. There is ample room for suitcases underneath, as well as a bedside cupboard and hooks with proper wooden hangers by the door and hooks in the bathroom. Heartsease has a folding table and chairs in the main body of the hut and a wifi router with a LAN port next to the table ideal for laptops. Opposite is the kitchenette, which has a small fridge, a sink and a small tabletop oven/grill with a two-ring stove on top. It's equipped with pans, crockery, cutlery, utensils and basics such as cling film, foil, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, olive oil, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and seasoning. It's also got tea, coffee, sugar, herbal teas, a kettle and a cafetiere. There's a flat screen TV with Freeview which can be angled towards the dining area or the bed. Opposite the door there's a rocking chair ideal for admiring the view through the door/reading/strumming an instrument/snoozing by the little electric flame-effect stove which provides a warm glow and variable heat in winter as well as cool air in summer. The hut also has an oil-filled radiator by the foot of the bed which can be left on all the time in winter, making it much nicer, cleaner, quieter and safer to sleep in than having a real fire or fan heater running all night whilst ensuring you'll wake up warm and cosy. The huts are very thoroughly insulated to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. To the left of the front door is an ensuite shower room with big fluffy towels, soap and shower gel/shampoo. Because the huts are elevated off the ground and pointed towards the fields, you can see the beautiful view but nobody can see you, so you have a loo with a view :) Outside Heartsease there's a little private patio and an area of garden which is secluded from the rest by the hut and has been recently landscaped and laid to turf and borders with a lot of flowering shrubs and bulbs. The view is really spectacular - the owner's favourite spot on the property - and because of the angle of the hut, something of a secret garden. There is a folding metal bistro set which can be set up on the patio or two zero gravity recliners which can be stored under the huts or left out as required. There's a stepping stone path leading past the other hut, Meadowsweet (which you can't see from inside Heartease and can't see into your hut) across to the bigger communal patio with dining furniture and built in BBQ and campfire area. Beyond this is a garden gate to the driveway and a building housing the owner's art/healing room and above, Treetops, a very successful holiday home with a treehouse balcony. To the right of Treetops, across the garden is a shared deck with a hot tub which is fully heated and available all year round and, like the rest of the garden, looks out directly onto the countryside. It really is bliss! Behind that is the main house and owner's lawn and veg plot which is not fenced off for aesthetic reasons but guests are asked not to go beyond the hot tub deck. If you'd like to use the hot tub, please shower first - no makeup/lotions/food/drink/smoking (it's inflatable) and please don't go in if you're ill/alone/drunk/pregnant/there's a storm/it's already occupied (unless you know each other and have agreed) or after midnight/before 9am (so as not to disturb one another - if one party books all three properties they can use it together whenever they like). Max 30 mins per go (for health and safety reasons as well as because it's shared and to preserve the motor). Have a lovely time!
Herstmonceux is a lovely little Sussex village with a pub (the Brewers Arms), a wonderful French brasserie (The Sundial), a fish and chip shop that also does very good burgers, chicken, halloumi and pies (The Willows) and a really good Indian restaurant (Eastern Promise). There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, falconry, archery, the windmill at Windmill Hill, and of course, Herstmonceux Castle and the Science Centre and Observatory. You can go sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding from Eastbourne or Cuckmere and you can make pottery in nearby Burwash.
  • Great hospitality from the moment we arrived and some really thoughtful touches. Lovely spot over looking the fields - very peaceful weekend. Shepherds hut kitted out with everything you could need. Good pubs, castles and walks close by

Set in the beautiful rolling East Sussex countryside Winters Farm Cottage is a lovely retreat.  Originally the stable block for Winters Farm, the cottage has been sympathetically converted retaining some original features and stylishly modernised. Featuring a wood burning stove and outstanding views we are sure you will have a wonderful break in this peaceful cottage. The cottage is self contained and set away from the owners' house with direct access to public footpaths.
The cottage has been fully refurbished to create a modern but cosy environment with wonderful countryside views. Guests have a private patio and orchard area outside the cottage with a chiminea. TV with Freeview & DVD player with a selection of DVDs. It is close to Mayfield village with plenty of amenities including two pubs. Guests can walk there in approx 25 minutes via the public footpath (unlit) or a bit longer via the lanes. Guests have direct access from the doorstep to many footpaths. The cottage is approximately 20 miles from the south coast.
The cottage is located about 1.5 miles from Mayfield. Mayfield is a pretty village set high on a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are various shops including a great butchers, post office, general store (open 7am-9pm), bakery and cafes. There are also two pubs serving good food. The nearest main supermarkets, banks etc are in Heathfield approximately 5 miles away.
  • Really beautiful place finished to a very high standard. So clean that everything looks brand new! Heating was great. There was a tray of food essentials and a few treats on arrival. Would recommend to anyone. Hosts were lovely.

  • A beautiful location, quiet and picturesque. Close to lots of national trusts etc. The cottage is well kept, warm and stylish. It has everything we needed to enjoy a getaway. Love the big bath/rain shower, log burner, and comfy bed. We didn't have great weather but managed to go for a short walk along the many public footpaths nearby. We hope to return when the sun comes out.

  • Absolutely flawless! We received a warm and friendly welcome from Victoria. This beautiful cottage far exceeded our expectations. The decor and furnishings make it feel exactly as it should. It is warm and cosy with underfloor heating and a wood burner. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The outside space is delightful and the views are breathtaking. The perfect little retreat.

  • Victoria’s cottage is stunning with amazing walks literally on the doorstep. The place was beautifully decorated, and she goes the extra mile with so many little touches which make you feel at home. It is often hard to find dog friendly places but here your dog is treated like part of the family and welcomed with special gifts too. We couldn’t have asked for anymore from our stay and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone!

  • Our stay at the lodge was wonderful, it looks beautiful inside in a stunning setting, and the extra little touches (like the delicious brownies) were a lovely bonus too. Having working wifi and netflix/amazon was great for relaxing in the evenings and Sally's list of places nearby to visit was really useful for the day. Battle is only 10 minutes away by car and the Abbey well worth visiting! I can thoroughly recommend.

    Mara2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely beautiful lodge, relaxing and peaceful. The scenery outside the back doors was next to nothing. Unfortunately it was a short stay for us but would definitely be coming back again. Sally made are stay smooth and easy, she was the perfect host. All her small touches made everything so much more luxurious. If we do not come back to stay we will definitely come back for the brownies 😊

    Sonal2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A very cozy and cozy cottage on the estate of the owners. When we arrived, the fire was burning nicely and it was nice and warm. The cottage was very luxurious and thought of everything. There was an extra breakfast basket, bread, eggs, cake, chocolates. In the fridge was a bottle of bubbles, milk and butter. There were even bathrobes and slippers in the bedroom. Unbelievable. The house was spotless and everything in the interior was nicely finished. The only downside is that the water does not get very hot and that the hob is quite slow. But the oven is doing fine. The owners are very cordial people and they do everything to make their guests happy. If you need anything, just ask. We are definitely going back.

  • Sally and Gavin go above and beyond our expectations of a host! thank you for making our weekend so peaceful and relaxing. Despite Storm Dennis and the weather, your lodge is beautiful and our time went far too quickly! Sally and Gavin were always on hand to keep our cozy fire going, give us local recommendations and the finishing touches really went the extra mile. Thank you so much!

  • What a magical weekend at Sally & Gavin’s Lodge. First of all the location is stunning and beautiful surrounding. The sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous. The lodge itself is incredible, it has everything you need. Beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches and extras. What makes this place however is Sally & Gavin and their hospitality. No stone is left unturned they really do make this experience special. They are two bubbly and friendly hosts that help with local tips: from running routes to local food stops as well as beautiful Homemade brownies on arrival. My husband and I will 100% be back! Thank you Sally & Gavin!

    Samantha2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the lodge for my boyfriend’s birthday was very lovely. Sally and Gavin were fantastic hosts. The decor of the lodge was absolutely stunning, the attention to detail was amazing. They did a lovely birthday welcome with the best brownies I’ve ever eaten! Thank you Sally and Gavin.

  • Immaculately presented and beautifully decorated luxurious lodge in a lovely setting. This large space has all the amenities you require for a long weekend or even longer in the holidays. I would highly recommend this place in the heart of Sussex, with its great local walking of the countryside. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Views of the surrounding Downs from the patio and the sounds and sights of the farm add to the experience. Easy parking and access to the accommodation. Sally is a great host.

  • This was our first experience of AirBnB and we definitely hit the jackpot. All communication with Anna was very friendly and helpful. She was there to greet us on our arrival and went out of her way to make us feel welcome along with introducing her dogs who are very friendly. The studio is beautifully styled, immaculate and very comfortable. Anna provided a fantastic choice for breakfast which we weren’t expecting along with a good selection of tea/coffee (some good hotels don’t even offer decaf tea) and biscuits. The view from the studio of the oasthouse and the garden is idillyic and peaceful. This is a real gem.

    Helen2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautifully situated in nature. Very quiet with sheep in the garden. Nice and green environment. Very friendly welcome. They were always ready to help us or provide information about trips. We went to Batemans gardens and that was really worth it. Large and soft bed. Only positive experiences!

  • A friend and I stayed at Jayne's house when we needed a place to stay the night before a triathlon. The house is really cute, with a beautiful garden in a lovely area. Jayne was lightening fast with communication, check in and out was a breeze. I highly recommend.

  • This home is lovely. On maps, seems longer from Herstmonceux than it actually is, I reached the village with shops and pubs in even less than a 30 mins walk. Also, the Castle has a pedestrian entrance (I suppose accessible when events are on) only 15-20 mins walk. There is not a lot around, so it is quite and relaxing. The back garden is nice and comfy. I was away all day during my stay, Jayne is very thoughtful and respectful of people. Loved it.

    Annalisa2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience so we were alittle unsure about what to expect. As soon as we met Jayne and Andrew we knew we had made the right choice. They were warm, welcoming and friendly from the moment we met them. It was like staying with friends for a few days. Their beautiful home is situated perfectly for visiting the surrounding areas such as Eastbourne, Brighton, Hastings, Alfriston, NT Clergy house and The Seven Sisters coastal walk which is stunning. The Brewers Arms and Bulls head pubs in the village are very welcoming too with lovely food. If you like Gin then a trip to Rathfinny vine yard to purchase their Seven Sisters Gin and walk the Rathfinny pathway is also a must. If you are looking for somewhere beautiful, clean, quiet to stay then this is the place. Thank you once again Jayne and Andrew for letting us share your beautiful home. Xx

The barn is a lovely space with a double bedroom, open plan living area/kitchen and shower room. There is a wood burning stove and logs provided. We were there for a quiet new year break and Roz kindly provided a bottle of bubbly for us. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The Old Stables have been lovingly converted into a rustic holiday cottage filled with charm. There are two bedroom suites each having a comfortable double bedroom and en-suite. Both bedrooms also have a mezzanine sleeping platform with two single beds ideal for children (6 +) to sleep in. The cottage has also been designed to accommodate guests with limited mobility. There are also grounds of nearly 2 acres which include a stream, waterfall and a pond with a sandy beach (see notes below)
Natural wood from a local saw mill has been used throughout the cottage which makes you feel in touch with the beautiful natural surroundings. The oak used for the bath stand and kitchen worktop came from a tree felled at Herstmonceux Castle. The railings to the mezzanine platforms have been made from natural timbers (which were cut from our land), so it feels like the kids are sleeping in a tree house. The property has been reconstructed using reclaimed materials in many areas. Reclaimed agricultural implements have been up-cycled into chandeliers. The old water trough and hay feeder from a local stable have been up-cycled into the kitchen sink and wine rack! The cottage has a private garden with a courtyard surrounded by reclaimed sea defence timbers from the Sussex coast near here. This has created an intimate out door dining area. The private garden has wild cherry trees, a peach tree and apple trees as well as a well stocked herb bed for you to cook from. The garden is south facing, receives great sunlight and has a shady nook with decking and seating for those seeking shelter from the midday sun. Great care and attention to detail has been taken in all aspects of the renovation of this beautiful old farm building creating a calming and comfortable place to stay. I can arrange pampering sessions and massages for you via a local holistic massage therapist who offers a range of treatments and could provide these in the comfort of the Old Stable during your trip. Prior booking would be required.
The Old Stable Cottage here at Hill Waters is located between the villages of Waldron and Cross in Hand on the Southern slopes of the High Weald, East Sussex. We are in a stunning rural location surrounded by much water, wildlife and nature. We often see deer in the gardens and hear the kingfishers call at dawn. One of the tributaries of arguably Sussex's prettiest river the Cuckmere begins here at Hill Waters. (Summers Brook). We are approx 130m above sea level with a clear view to the South Downs and on a good day you can view the sea from our grounds (Eastbourne approx 20 miles). The High Weald is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty located between East Sussex and Kent and has one of the best kept medieval landscapes in the country. It has one of the highest percentages of woodland cover in the country 15% and is dotted with attractions which include villages of character with superb pubs and walks, to places of National Historic Interest. There are a huge number of walks nearby showing different vistas and landscapes. The nearest public footpath 200m away shows a view over the Low Weald towards the downs where it hits the sea outside Eastbourne. This walk is alongside a vineyard. There are a multitude of historic towns and villages within a short drive e.g Lewes, Battle, Mayfield, Glynde (Glyndebourne), Alfriston , Burwash and the larger towns within 30 minutes include Tunbridge Wells. If a visit to the coast is planned the coastal towns of Brighton, Eastbourne or Hastings can all be reached in 30-35 minutes. The iconic Seven Sisters cliffs and the nearest beach (Birling Gap) are around 25 minutes drive away passing through the glorious village of East Dean. The sandy beaches of Camber Sands could be reached in 45 minutes. London is 1 hour 15 minute drive. The High Weald of Sussex and Kent was traditionally the base for the hop growing industry and Hill Waters was once part of a hop growing farm. The unmistakable sight of the oast houses is one of the areas charms and some farms still carry on the practice to this day. Prior to this between 15-17th centuries, the Weald was the centre of the Iron Industry and many place names reflect this, where its deposits of iron and wealth of timber and natural resources meant it became the site of Britain's first Iron Industry. This area has seen a large growth in the number of vineyards. The South East Wine Route shows that Hill Waters is less than 6 miles from 3 of the vineyards listed the nearest being 100 m away just along the lane from The Old Stables. The nearest pub is the 17th Century Star Inn which sits at the heart of the historic and picturesque village of Waldron. This is a pleasant 25 minute walk (1.4 miles) along a minor road with views over the surrounding countryside and woods. Encompassing a public footpath with the Star Inn walk involves a 45 minute stroll partly through woodland with stream. There are numerous other superb walks with great pubs within 5 miles, which date from 14th century including The Six Bells, Chiddingly/, Star, Old Heathfield/, The Gun, Gun Hill, Chiddingly. For a longer off road walk directly to a pub from Hill Waters (approx 11 miles there and back) try the walk to the Runt in Tun just south of Heathfield.
  • Amazing place. We loved it.

    Jimena2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at The Stables, perfect for two families - a bathroom each made a huge difference! The Stables had everything we needed and the children loved exploring the gardens!

  • Great hospitality and lovely spot for larger groups. We had artist residency and rehearsals for London Jazz Festival in there and it worked out really well. Heated floor was great and vibe in the house is lovely. Not too far from London and local pubs. It just takes ages to get there by train so make sure you have a car otherwise prepare for long trip on small roads.

  • Absolutely beautiful accommodation in a lovely setting. Well situated for a holiday in Sussex or a quick weekend away. The grounds are a real bonus, with lots of outdoor space and furniture. Spotlessly clean and really great to have two family rooms each with its own bathroom. Highly recommended.

Come away to beautiful East Sussex to experience a unique stay in The Buzzardry. This stunning structure will not disappoint – from the luxurious copper bathtub with exquisite views over woodland grounds to the extravagant beamed ceilings that protrude through the building, this magnificent treehouse offers unparalleled style and luxury. With full facilities available, including two en-suite bathrooms with showers, a fully equipped kitchen, a barbecue and drinks deck at the front.
Interior & Facilities This fantastic 2-bedroom treehouse is generously spaced for you to fully enjoy the lofty environs. Climb up the spiral staircase and across the walkway to find a delightful decked terrace; a perfect place for balmy evenings in the treetops. Double glass doors give you access to the open plan circular living area, with gorgeous views over the woodlands from each angled window. The lounge includes comfortable seating, a TV and a cosy wood-burning stove, which despite the property's mod cons, provides heating with the old-fashioned way for this well-insulated space, as well as underfloor heating to keep your toes toasty. There is also a dining area for four, with views through large windows and glass doors for the feeling of al fresco dining, a small kitchen complete with oven, hob, microwave, kettle and sink. To the right is a super king-sized bedroom which can also be used as a twin room and is so spacious it comes with wardrobe space and a beautiful morning view of leafy light. The jewel in this cedar crown is the master bedroom, which fans out into its own spherical space, containing a king-sized bed, wardrobe space, and an opulent copper bath tub. This room is not just metres above the ground, it's miles above other self-catering accommodation - this is treehouse chic. Both bedrooms are beautifully appointed with their own en-suite bathrooms.
  • Everything was perfect from start to finish. I'm torn between wanted to keep this magical place a secret and wanting to share it with the world. Thanks to Emma for the prompt responses to my many queries and her wonderful hospitality. We will be back

  • It is so difficult to explain the total relaxed atmosphere at The Buzzardry. We had planned a number of trips out but actually didn’t do one of them as we chose to ‘camp out’ with the log burner in the beautiful surroundings of The Treehouse. A perfect Christmas

    Lesley2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • I rented this treehouse as a birthday surprise for my partner and it was more magical than we could have ever anticipated. “A childhood dream come true” were his words! The space is faultless - it’s immaculately clean, the welcome hamper is such a lovely addition, and the grounds and story behind the treehouse are so wonderful. We would definitely stay again and 100% recommend it to anyone thinking of staying here!

    Naomi2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is a very unique home set in the most beautiful surroundings. We spent two nights there in October and were very lucky to have brilliant sunshine to wake up to while sat on the deck drinking tea each morning. The stylish interior and welcome we received was amazing. Would definitely recommend this little hidden gem! Lisa and Jon

  • Absolutely gorgeous cottage. Quiet and quaint setting away from the city. Romy was quick and responsive and took great care of us during our stay. The stars at night were beautiful. Had a great Christmas!

  • Lovely place. The place is spacious and has everything you might need. Kitchen is fully equipped. Lots of places to walk around. Romy is a very nice host. She’s very friendly and attentive.

  • Lovely converted barn, located close to the host's home. It's a private space, the enclosed small garden was perfect for letting our dog out safely. But we really enjoyed and appreciated being able to make use of the field just outside. Our dog loved playing with Romy's gorgeous pup! The kitchen facilities were great. Heating was quick to come on and kept us cosy. Everything, including the bathroom was spotlessly clean. I travelled with my mum who slept on the sofa bed downstairs and said it was very comfy. Beds upstairs comfy too. Romy was available for help and info, and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. We'd love to return! Thanks for having us.

    Therese2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cute spot, nice amount of space for 1/2 people (be sure you're comfortable sleeping in a mezz bed : ) ). Lovely private garden, beautiful views.

    Michelle2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely, spacious yet cosy. Extra touches and amenities were added making it feel more homely. Romy is a great host, really knowledgeable about the area and local activities. I would highly recommend a stay here.

    Anouzka2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Romy's place is lovely! What a fab place to recharge and use as a base to explore the beautiful countryside nearby. It's a self-contained converted space - it feels very separate to the house, with a gorgeous green view from two sides and lots of light (huge floor to ceiling windows). It's spacious and quiet. But as well as feeling the peace of being away from it all, it was nice to know that Romy and her family were nearby if I needed anything. Romy was lovely to talk, with local recs too. Great selection of books and dvds inside as well. I'll definitely plan to go back when I need a bit of a retreat!

    Ali2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic cosy rental in great location with lovely pub nearby. It has everything you need and is really nicely done, plus beautiful views and fantastic local tips from Romy. She was great host and we had a brilliant few days. Highly recommended, we'll certainly go back - we loved our stay there!

  • Charming cottage with generous sized living room area upstairs. Good base for exploring the local countryside. Layout of the cottage suited to people who like outdoors activities with a large entrance for clothes / boots / kit and separate from the living space. There is also plenty of room outside for bikes and parking . The cottage is next to a road and a few mins drive from the Swan pub which served good food.

    Mark2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely brilliant country stay; would recommend to anyone! The hosts were lovely people, quick with responses, and were even kind enough to provide some meat from their farm for us! The property is in wonderful location; secluded, with beautiful views of the countryside all the way toward the coast. Inside, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you’d need, and the living space upstairs is simply splendid. Very nicely furnished and decorated home with a warm, homely feel to it. The only slight hiccup is that although WiFi is available in the property, the connection itself is so poor that streaming any content is out of the question; even sending emails is a struggle. Other than that minor issue, it’s an absolutely wonderful stay at The Old Chapel; 10/10 from us.

    Angarjan2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space with wonderful views! The hosts were very helpful and check in and check out were very easy!

  • The Old Chapel is a really lovely place. It's in a great location for visiting places like Rye and Battle, and also for visiting country pubs and going for walks through the woods. We enjoyed getting a guided walk through the sheep fields, and also sampling the free range sausages and eggs. The house itself was very clean, nicely decorated, and very well stocked. Highly recommended!

  • I stayed here with 5 of my friends for a girls getaway - it was perfect! We were originally booked for 7 of us - I think this would have been a bit of a squeeze though, so it worked out that one of our party had to change her plans. The place was very well located and had good amenities. Very homely and lots of nice personal touches - including a Christmas tree which was lovely! Many thanks Helen for a very pleasant stay!

  • The apartment was very comfortable to stay in. The bed was especially comfy! We were made to feel very welcome, but equally the space felt private. There was a fridge, microwave and kettle, but no sink in the kitchen area, so only limited cooking was possible. Thank you Dave and Kelly!

  • My partner and I had a wonderful evening staying in this beautiful and very cute place. It was perfect for what we wanted, some peace and quiet and to get away from it all. We were going to go out for meal but the weather was glorious and Dave had just mowed the lawn in their stunning garden which we were allowed to use and put a table and chairs out for us so we went with a Chinese and bottle of wine instead, chilling in their garden. It was a perfect evening, in a perfect place, with a perfect setting. Thank you for allowing us to share a piece of your beautiful haven. Highly recommend.

Unique property located at a beautiful garden centre/ plant nursery. With private ancient woodland that is accessible during your stay and a wild swimming lake that is open for swimming 4 times a week. Take part in a yoga or Tai Chi lesson. Take advantage of the onsite café that serves brunch until 2:30, lunch and afternoon tea.
The village of Herstmonceux is located 1 km from the cottage. The name comes from Anglo-Saxon hyrst, "wooded hill", plus the name of the Monceux family who were lords of the manor in the 12th century. Herstmonceux Castle 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of the village is a former site of the Royal Greenwich Observatory. It is now home to the Bader International Study Centre of Queen's University, Kingston, Canada, and the area therefore enjoys an influx of Canadian and other international students each school year. The castle grounds are also home to the Observatory Science Centre, which is operated by Science Projects Limited, and the Herstmonceux Mediaeval Festival.
  • Lovely cottage in the grounds of a garden centre. Very quiet and peaceful. Very well appointed in terms of things you might need in the kitchen and bathrooms. Very relaxing living spaces and very well maintained and clean. The garden centre is fun to visit and Olive's Cafe serves lovely food at good prices. The cottage is also well located to visit lots of local places very easily. Very good communication with Helen and easy to get in.

  • A really lovely place to stay. Very good value, clean and roomy. The rooms are all very spacious and the bedrooms are fab, even the bedding was good quality and soft. Yes it is on a busy road but it's quiet in the evenings with the fire lit and a relax on the huge cosy sofas. We did some walks inbetween the rain and on Sunday walked via the road then cross country to the amazing Lamb Inn pub for a super tasty roast (meat and veggie), not to be missed. Would love to go back when it's sunny and warm for the wild swimming and less muddy walking.

  • We spent a lovely couple of days at the cottage. Comfortable and clean, it was a great place to stay and explore the surrounding countryside. Although the weather was cold, the cottage itself was cosy and warm. I only wish we could have stayed longer!!
