Places to stay in Rakiraki

Places to stay in Rakiraki
On offer is our “YANUCA” room which is one of three private rooms available in our large family home (see other listings to book either the “Cobia” and/or “Yavu” room ). We are located in Rakiraki Village, just outside of Rakiraki town. Each room has its own private bathroom and toilet. Guests have access to a commun lounge room, verandah and kitchen. We have a range of water and land activities available too. Our place offers a true Fijian experience full of Fijian adventure!
As you are living within a village you will get to experience true Fijian culture and hospitality - through local people and a taste of local cuisine cooked by Alisi. Our dive shop also offers a gateway to the world class diving that Rakiraki is well known for - at a fraction of the cost of what the neighbouring resorts charge. Joji is highly skilled diving professional (20+ years experience) so you are in experienced hands! He's also always ready for a laugh and adventure so an unforgettable experience is guaranteed!
We live on the cusp of a traditional Fijian village, which allows for a unique Fijian experience. As you will be living in the Fijian village, you will need to pay respect to the village headman by way of a "sevusevu" which involves a kava (traditional drink) ceremony. Kava will need to be purchased by guests at an extra cost (approx. $20FJ).
  • We had the best time here interacting with Jioji and Alisis family and learning a bit about their village and Fijian culture. We dived and snorkeled with them and had the best time! The most beautiful reefs and interesting islands. Would definitely stay again!

  • Amazing to experience a real Fijian village. We went diving and the coral was just amazing and saw a reef shark! They are a genuine lovely family. Don’t expect a 5 star resort but 5 star Fijian experience and diving!

  • We had an incredible stay, Jioji, Alisi and their family were so lovely. We went out for a days scuba diving with them to the soft/hard coral which were unbelievable. Lunch cooked with fish that we had just caught on an island. Sharing Kava with the village Chief and then eating the wonderful meals cooked by Alisi. Thank you again. Jason & Hanna

  • Jioji and Alisa were amazing hosts and I cannot recommend staying with them enough. In almost five months of travelling, it was one of the absolute highlights. The hospitality of the family and everyone in the village was incredible, the food was delicious and the room was comfortable and spacious. Overall the experience was authentic and considerably better than resorts I had stayed at in Fiji. Jioji and his son took me diving around some stunning dive sites - the boat and equipment was all in great condition and the soft coral and wildlife was as good as I have seen anywhere. They took me to a deserted island after my dives and cooked some fresh fish on the bbq. It was a perfect day. Thanks for hosting me, what an amazing few days!!

  • We love staying with Joji and Alici as you get to experience the real Fiji and village life. This family is so loving and authentic and they represent their culture very well. The diving with them is also unique and personal. They are very experienced, know the dive sites and are happy to spend time with you as you enjoy your dive. You feel like you are getting a private tour verses going in a big group on a crowded boat.

  • My stay at Joiji’s house was the highlight of my Fiji trip. This place is not just a very comfortable place to sleep. It’s a place that makes you feel part of a Fijian family, shares their yummy local food (and far more food than I could finish!), and is very relaxed. The family knows the island sea area well. I went snorkeling with them. The spot the took me too had fish and coral that far exceed what you get on the barrier reef. It was amazing. We stopped at a deserted island for lunch and one of the family climbed a coconut tree to get me a really fresh serving of the fruit! I thoroughly recommend this place to stay and experience the true Fiji. A wonderful loving caring family.

  • I had a fabulous time with Jioji and his family. If you want a true Fijian experience choose this place in a traditional village Fijian to experience one of the best dives in the world, fishing many fishes and to taste amazing dishes. If you travel to Fiji, do not hesitate to plan a stay in Rakiraki, very easy to access by bus from Nadi or Suva. Thanks you !! Vinaka !! I’ will come back ! Thibault

The Studio Unit is part of Main Facility but quietly tucked away on the bottom level away from common areas.
You enjoy all the facilities and surroundings of the Dreamview Villas Complex with access to the lovely infinity pool.
We are set in rural location overlooking the Bligh Waters with Nakauvadra Ranges in the background. Wananavu Resort is just 5 minutes walk from our villas. We have a marina about 500m from the villas and provides easy access to the ocean and boat trips to the neighbouring isands. Nananu I Ra Island is 10 mins by boat and has great beaches and gorgeous snorkeling.
  • This place had great aesthetics with an infinity pool and amazing views. Staff were a little slow but the room was perfect with a lot of space, fast wifi and free netflix!

  • Our studio was in the main building and was very nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped. The complex is beautifully situated on a hill with a great view over the sea and some islands. There is also a beautiful pool from which you can enjoy this view. We felt very comfortable with Sada.

  • An amazing spot to stay in Fiji for the value!!!! Beautiful views and a great pool to relax by. There’s snorkeling just a short walk away and you can easily hire a boat trip. We were surprised to find both AC and Netflix in our room!! The restaurant at DreamView Villas has a limited menu but the food is delicious and is a value for the money. Overall would highly recommend this spot!!! It’s a real hidden gem!!

  • We had a great time staying here. Pre ordered food was loverly and great value. Staff were so friendly and helpful and we loved our stay! Unless you have a car, make sure you bring all food you want as no shops close by.

  • This place is unbelievable! Fantastic room in a stunning location. We loved it so much that we extended our trip for an additional two days. Everyone is so friendly, the room is sparkling clean, and the infinity pool is to die for. Absolutely order food from the restaurant (so tasty) and spend some time exploring the area. The view is just amazing. We will definitely be returning.

This bungalow is set in a rural seaside location with access to sea via marina/jetty 5 minutes walk. Great for swimming. snorkeling and fishing. Guests are welcome to use the Dreamview Villas Pool which is in the same property.
The bach is situated on a hillside overlooking the marina with great view of Volivoli Bay. Amazing sunsets. Easy access to the ocean from marina/Jetty.
Volivoli Bay is one of the most beautiful and scenic locations on the Kings Road. There a number of islands just 10 mins boat ride from our marina. We have a boat that can be hired for picnic/snorkeling and fishing. It is a very quiet location with hardly any traffic of people and vehicles. Very relaxing!!
  • Breathtaking view! Spectacular place & enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely will recommend & go back :)

    Ili2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. Spent a week there and have lots of positives to report back. Sada and his staff were very responsive and kind. When some issues came up with the electricity in the bach they were very quick to jump in and help. Cabin is rustic but not too-rustic. Isolated from the rest of the complex. Think a remote home with well-equipped kitchen, AC in the bedrooms, and decent-speed wifi. Just notes to future travelers: in summer it can get quite hot... this is Fiji after all. You would also be smart to bring a car to drive to the nearby town to get supplies - although quite good and affordable meals can be arranged at the Dreamview complex, along with the two nearby resorts. Looking forward to returning soon.

    Christopher2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We were upgraded to Dreamview Villas as the Bach was undergoing repairs. A truly spectacular view from the villa..with big clean spaces...and everything you need when you get away. I would highly recommend this property and will definitely return.

  • Beautiful home with an amazing view! The food is fabulous, and upon request the host went out of their way to make a lovo dinner happen for us and the rest of the guests. Would absolutely recomend the diving in the area as well.

    Ashley2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A really nice and stylish place! Outstanding cleanliness and great furniture. The pool is well disposed on the top of the hill and with a amazing view. It's worth the price! Yet it is a bit far from beaches, big cities but good to anybody' d like to stay in a fancy and calm place with the family.

    Guillaume2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location! It's 15min drive out of the town but that's what where you get the views. Theres a resturant 5 minute walk away in another resort or they have a kitchen onsite. There was 2 of us and we got upgraded from the budget batch to a 6 bed villa with amazing balcony views to watch the sunset. Would highly recommend this place if you are staying in rakiraki. Wish we stayed longer than 1 night!

    Emily2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Don’t hesitate to book in this beautiful and peacefully area. The view and the confort are incredible. You can book a lovely snorkelling trip directly there. Everything is perfect for relaxing. Wild and exotic. The staff is very thoughtful.

  • Sada's modern bach is something that we are lucky he has decided to share with us qualified and respectful guests. I had the fortune of staying here for a week while diving with the Volivoli/Ra and Wananavu diving teams. The Dreamview team helped me to arrange car transfers from Nadi, as well as to the dive resorts in the morning if/as needed. This is a very nice place to quietly enjoy the tropical countryside vibe of the area.

No Worries Bay, or ‘Sega na leqa’ in Fijian, is the ideal place to relax surrounded by tropical gardens and ocean views. Situated on the Volivoli peninsula near Rakiraki, our ocean front studio is a private space with spectacular views out to Nananu-i-Cake island.
This spacious studio has an outdoor deck from which you can enjoy the ocean views and tranquility. It has a queen size bed, bathroom and kitchenette (including microwave and stove top) with everything you need to cook a simple meal. There is an adjoining studio available with a queen bed (single beds can be arranged on request), making it perfect for couples or families.
  • Jodie and Ben's place in amazing. It's a great view and so relaxing. We come to Rakiraki to go diving so the location, right next to Wananavu was perfect. Also the food that they cooked was so amazing. Great value for the money, especially compared to what you'd spend at the nearby reports

    Joseph2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • At Jodie and Ben's place 'No Worries Bay Fiji' you can expect a quiet and peaceful place to stay. Jodie and Ben are very helpful and friendly hosts. They are the kind of hosts that give that little extra to their guest.

    Bill2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jodie and Ben’s place was very nice. Nice secluded area with a pool and beautiful views. They were very accommodating with checking in and providing us with some breakfast items was a bonus.

    Carmel2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful little bit of paradise. Nestled beautifully in a cove , make sure you read the directions to get here as you could easily get lost. The room was clean with lovely little touches , towels made into swans and flowers on the bed , fruit and breakfast provisions provided. We opted for the bbq pack which was more than enough for two. Had a kayak with the kayaks provided and a dip in the pool and then a few beers on our deck. Mosquito coils were provided but I would suggest bring your own repellent. Would definitely come again and recommend anybody to come for a getaway .

    Trish2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jody and Ben were wonderful hosts. So helpful and kind. The grounds were lovely. I wish I would have more time to explore.

    Linda2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot right on the water. Basic amenities were just what we needed. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent as they were the only nuisance. No worries had in no worries bay!

    Lianne2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Ben and Jodie’s for 2 nights could’ve stayed a week. We were in the studio bungalow plenty of room and cooking facilities. There are few resorts close by where you can visit for meals we also did a small shop in the local town before we arrived. The pool was great for afternoon drinks and a refreshing swim. A snorkelling day with Danny is a must which he also takes you to a private beach which is amazing. We will be back.

    Lynda2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Ben and Jodie are cheerful hostess. They were really helpful during our trip, giving us good advices and everything we asked for. Finally the place is amazing with a beautiful ocean view.

We are set in a rural location atop a hill overlooking the Bligh waters, one of the most amazing places for diving and fishing. Access to the sea is from our marina. You can also do snorkeling in the waters around our property or take a 10 mins boat trip to Nananu-i-Ra Islands for great beaches and snorkeling.
  • This was an absolute dream. The view was incredible and the curry and roti could not be beat!

    Erica2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Turquoise water ocean views with spectacular sunsets! The villa itself was amazing - modern and spacious. It would be a great place to stay with a group. We got taken out in a boat snorkelling and the water was so warm and glorious!

    Toni2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Dreamview Villas is the perfect spot for self-contained accomodation. The hosts are wonderful, the pre-ordered food is great and the views entirely live up to the name!! If visiting Rakiraki, you really can’t do better - especially after a long day diving.

    Will2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place to stay! We were worki g in Rakiraki and stayed in Volivoli during our visit. The place is wonderful. We had everything we needed and views are stunning.

    Nathalie2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place!! Quite and out of the way. The place is very beautifully appointed and well thought out. We spent 2 nights here. There are a lot of activities if you would like. Or you can just relax and enjoy the breeze on top of this beautiful mountain. We went hiking in the morning, snrokeling mid-day. And a gentle swim in the infinity pool in the evening. And stayed up late watching a movie on Netflix. Sada's team has a kitchen on sight and can prepare some very good home cooked meals, which you can enjoy in your Villa or at the dining hall. Family had an amazing time and wanted to go back. It is a trek to get too... But so well worth the trip!! I would highly recommend to anyone!! And with 7 villas, it's a great spot for a family or group reunion!!

    Rony2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning location with a beautiful pool and amazing star gazing. A tip for future guests - if the weather is clear and you can get away from lights the star gazing is incredible. A really clear view of the Milky Way and plenty of shooting stars to be seen. The view from Dreamview Villas is outstanding both day and night.

    Nick2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views; very clean and modern. We had such an amazing time & the staff were so friendly & helpful. Great value for the price. Ditch the resorts and experience real Fiji at Dreamview.

    Jeremy2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Dreamview is aptly named. The Villas are congregated on a picturesque hilltop overlooking the northeastern islands off of Fiji. From every East-facing window you had full view of the blue-green waters along the shores and out to the Pacific. The villa itself (Villa 6) is spacious, well-placed, and beautiful: close to the community pool and the roads to the harbor and back to the main road. -> Walk-in showers; one outdoor and one indoor (the former is perfect for a mid-day cool down) -> Balcony seating on first and second floor The breakfasts and lunches provided by the staff were great as well. The scrambled eggs and toast were a great start every morning. The Dreamview Villas are 2.5 hours away from Nadi, the main Fiji airport. You are well away from the typical trappings of tourism; you will see many villages along the way, and the Fijian landscape. The boat trip to local islands provided from Dreamview is worth it - my wife and I loved the feeling of one beach all to ourselves, another beach where the captain cut fresh coconuts for us, and a lovely ride around the bay back to the harbor. All-in-all, if you want time to disconnect and truly getaway you would have a beautiful time at the Dreamview Villas! Tips: -> The TV is connected to the WiFi - we watched Netflix; we were never able to connect our phones to it (something about a Vodafone set-up) -> The road to Dreamview is the second Volivoli Road off of Kings Road -> You are in a tropical countryside - there are bugs, spiders, lizards, and the like. We found that keepings the windows closed, as well as the screen doors generally keeps things out. You can also fold towels and press them against front door and the door to the outdoor shower. You will still get them, this may just minimize the number

  • Bularangi Villa was the perfect place for some luxurious family time! The house was clean and comfortable and the layout was awesome for both privacy and great communal spaces for meals and relaxing. The gardens were well kept and the view amazing. The snorkelling spot on the drop off out in front of the house was full of life. One of the highlights was floating in the private pool in the evenings and stargazing with no light pollution. The kitchen was well stocked and nearby Wananavu and Volivoli resorts were great for happy hour. Thanks Alison and Kamlesh for your wonderful hospitality!

  • On our trip to Fiji we wanted to feel like we were in Paradise. But as my 22 y/o put it. I Feel Like a Rockstar!! The residence has a beautiful view that goes on for miles/km right out your backdoor. Couldn't ask for more in that part. The inside house has lots of room to spread out. Same as the bathrooms, lots of space ;-) . Swimming pool gets lots of sun during the day and evening stars while laying out by the pool at night. You will feel like a Rockstar! Bring you fresh ground coffee. Only freeze dried in town.

Priti’s Paradise offers you the best of all worlds: the paradise that is Fiji’s Suncoast, resort privileges, your own private home with luxurious master suite and hot tub, spacious rooms, 3 bedroom, 3 bath holiday home situated on a thriving reef. Absolute waterfront, masks and snorkels provided for unlimited snorkeling. Starfish Blue has a private pool, hanging bed, awe inspiring views from your balcony and beach access and utterly stunning view of the coral strewn sea and 3 out islands.
The extra touches make Priti’s Paradise ( previously known as Starfish Blue ) a perfect holiday. With a reef in the front yard, we provide masks and snorkels for free, unlimited snorkeling. The water is exceedingly calm due to the reef and 3 islands, at times not even a ripple, making it among the world’s top spots to snorkel. Our smiling maids come 5 times per week. They are like magic fairies, tidying up. For a small price, they will cook. My favorite is breakfast- it’s a feast that will last well into the afternoon, and they clean up! What could be better. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for meal preparation, or you can dine out. All linens, including pool towels are included.
You have access to not one, but two resorts during your vacation. Volivoli Beach is open year round, and is a 10 minute drive. Wananavu Beach Resort is walking distance, but is occasionally closed for private functions. Both are beautiful.
  • The most serene of views. Wonderful folks to deal with & lovely place. Highly recommended

    Tanzi2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We are a family of four with two teenage daughters (13 and 16). First the big picture. We got exactly what we wanted out of our time at Starfish Blue, a week of warmth, water, and quiet family time in a cosy well-lived environment. We read books, we played games, we snorkelled, we had a marvellous time. All of our dealings with staff were pleasant and it all worked out. That might be all you need to know, but if you want more here it goes. The house was more than large enough for us, with each girl getting their own room with bathroom downstairs while we took over the upstairs master bedroom. There’s a pretty nice built-in desk along a wall upstairs in the master bedroom, which we didn’t make use of, but I thought I’d mention it if someone needed a place to work on the great American novel or whatnot. The outdoor spaces were very nice, a balcony off the master bedroom upstairs and a covered seating area off the living room downstairs. No view of the sunset, but very fetching views nonetheless. The outdoor hanging bed overlooking the water is as advertised, lots of reading got done there. There’s an outdoor light that stays on all night. Apparently you can turn if off from the breaker box, but you have to go hunting for the right breaker, which I didn’t really feel like doing so we just pulled the curtains closed upstairs on that side of the house at night, a minor annoyance. The pool was more than adequate for our needs. The pool pump was not working for the entirety of our stay, but Krishna came by every day early to keep the pool clean and we were in it every day, sometimes twice a day. We self-catered heavily (only one meal out in an entire week) and we managed to do fine in the kitchen with a little creativity. There are pots and a good frying pan onsite, but we brought a small knife for cutting, which was a good idea (though don’t forget to put it in checked luggage). There’s a four burner gas hob and a gas oven (the oven must be lit by match, which is fine as long as you know that). The fridge is adequate, though a bit of a squeeze when you’re trying to pack in groceries for four, especially if you’re also chilling 750ml bottles of Fiji Bitter and why wouldn’t you? We bought a bunch of stuff in Nadi at the New World by the airport on arrival and then ended up venturing out for groceries once to Rakiraki later in the week to top up our supplies. We don’t normally dabble in duty-free, but if you want liquor to be part of your time in Fiji you should seriously consider it. I bought a 1L bottle of bourbon in the airport duty-free in Nadi for about $55 FJD. The same bottle was $200+ FJD when I saw it in a bottle shop in Nadi. There is wifi available, but there was no credit on the plan when we arrived. Upon notifying the manager the problem was rectified. It’s a limited data situation, so no movie streaming. We had been assuming little to no internet and had been prepping the kids so it was fine. There’s also a cell phone onsite, which was very useful on occasion. We couldn’t find a charger for it, but fortunately we had brought one and the phone was low on credit, but it was a nice thing to have when we needed it. We made use of the TV and dvd player as well as the small library of dvds. The sound system works, but it’s just a pile of surround sound speakers on top of a cabinet, but whatever, you can hear the movie fine and ... you’re in Fiji! The snorkeling gear on hand is a bit tired, if you have the ability to bring your own or rent some on the way then it’s worth considering it. On the plus side, snorkeling right off shore is a thing. As you look at the water from the house the current runs from right to left, so the move is to go at high-ish tide, go to the right as much as you can, wade/swim out to the drop off and float/swim along looking at fish until you get to channel markers and make your way out. You can go further than that, but it gets hard to get out depending on how high the tide is, rocks and coral. At the marker or just before there are a few good places to get through the reef without damaging the coral or yourself. However, while you will see fish right off shore it’s definitely worth doing a snorkeling trip from Wananavu Beach Resort, which is nearby (though a little bit of an adventure to find, you’ll figure it out). We paid $200 FJD for four for a 1.25 hour trip, well worth it. Very little insect life to worry about with the exception of ants, who will find any food you leave out so be careful there. As to the flying and biting variety, there were no real problems. We had a gentle to stiff breeze blowing for most of our stay, which certainly helped. I think we picked up a handful of bites over the week, but it was not an issue. The sun was an issue, it is strong and despite our best efforts and 50 SPF we ended up with some burns, so slop it on and re-apply! We wanted quiet so we only had the maids come twice during our stay. They were very pleasant and just got the job done and left. We did lose power one day around midday. There are instructions in the house book for firing up the very serious looking diesel generator in the shed, but it didn’t start when...

  • We had an amazing 2 weeks at Starfish Blue! Communication was great and we were well taken care of during our stay. Having the 2 resorts nearby is nice since you have access to their restaurants and can schedule activities, boat trips, etc. The kitchen has just the basics and there were a few minor things in need of repair, but these were small matters. The place is great value and the surrounding area is incredibly beautiful!

  • Ben and Jodie are super laid back kiwi hosts. They can leave you alone or as in our case, they invited us to join them for a bbq, for a beach trip - and if you're a keen fisherman, Ben doesn't need asking twice. They go out of their way to make sure you are getting what you want for your trip. We had great bbq's, a fresh fish caught off their beach and great chicken curry cooked by one of their staff for a friendly price. We loved it.

  • This is a great find in rakiraki! Ben and Jodie are lovely hosts , the place is great to cook your own meals in , its centrally located with other resorts nearby and a goo launching point for scuba , snorkel , fish, island day trips , and it’s peaceful. I loved the balance of this place and would definitely stay here again !

  • Amazing view! Thoughtful host. For those that like scenic, private, out of town places. The bungalow was built by a craftsman, family, with amazing attention to detail. If you like nature more than city, return your Suva car rental in Nadi and stay here for a day or two to relax.

  • Very nice relax place. Was a very nice way to finish our vacation. The breakfast pack and meat pack was great for self catering.

  • Lovely place that was clean, comfy, and had all the amenities for a couple of relaxing days in Rakiraki. We cooked all meals and enjoyed spending time in the space. Jodie and Ben were available and happy to help with any requests like arranging transport to the nearby dive resort and allowing for a late checkout for a small fee. We had a great time and would definitely stay again. :)

  • A great "Off the Beaten Track" retreat, well away from the tourist traps but near enough to a couple of quality resorts so you have access to dive shops, restaurants, bars, cultural activities, spa's etc if that is what you need a taste of. Jodi and Ben run this small, family owned retreat not too far from Rakiraki. No Worries Bay Retreat is small but has everything you need if you are looking for a quiet place to rest, the bungalows have everything you need, are clean and set up for you to self cater, a lovely big swimming pool with BBQ area, spacious grounds and access to the sea in their kayaks. But best of all you have Jodi, SHE IS AN AMAZING HOST who is 100 per cent focused on providing you with the best "Real Fiji" experience she can muster. Thanks again Jodi and Ben, we had an epic time and we will be back.

  • This was truly an amazing trip. The house sits up above the resort so it's a bit of a hike to get to but worth it. We loved the privacy but enjoyed being part of the Wananavu resort. Ikuko was amazing and always replied in a timely manner. We had a few questions once we arrived and those were answered quickly and efficiently. The house is large and roomy. We loved the pool area. In addition, if you dive the Pafi dive shop next door is amazing! Sean and Haley are both amazing! If we return to Fiji this most certainly would be where we would stay again.

Not much of a beach as it is blocked by mangroves but if you have a car volivoli is a excellent beach with good snorkeling and free use of kayaks. • As always this place is our paradise. We enjoy it without being crowded with people and manmade luxury touches. This place is just naturally beautiful and we loved our swimming and snorkeling exploring corals and different species of beautiful fish. Walking around the island in low tide is so memorable too. This is our third trip staying in Maxine's and we are looking forward to our next one.

It's such a great place to relax and let the hours go past. Great for swimming and also easy walks across the island. The beach is wonderful if you can find a lot of fish in the sea. Snorkeling and canoeing provided. Would definitely want to come again. Thank you so much!

  • We had a wonderfull time in an idyllic location. Remote and truely tropical for those who treasure space and distance from the facade of resorts. Thanks for sharing with us!

  • What a place to have a holiday! Kinda wonderful having the tip of the island to yourself staying in a large, well designed house. Great snorkelling right on your doorstep. All travel plans were arranged by Jenny and worked like clockwork. Hubby was well organised and catered for our trip very well - we had to take all our own food to the island as there is no where there to purchase any food. Works well if you plan ahead. Solar power was a little bit of a problem at night as it kept cutting out but thankfully our host Seva would come and put the petrol generator on to give us power till after bedtime. Great to get the kids off the devices and outside enjoying the beautiful weather and the sea.

    Anjannette2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. The house and location are absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend! The communication with Jennifer was accurate and very fast! We will most definitely be back!

  • Sekula lodge is located on one of the most spectacular properties I have ever been to. It's on a point where the sun rises on one side and sets on the other. The white sandy beach surrounds the house as does a spectacular view. The hosts, Seva and Varni do their best to check in and accommodate anything you need. We had the good fortune of meeting their grandson, 13 year old Api, who was staying with them for his school holidays over Christmas and liked to play cards, swim and fish with our boys. He was adorable. One of the highlights was eating fresh fish brought in by Seva and prepared by Varni who is an amazing cook. The location of the house with both beaches is also helpful because it allows the breeze to flow through the house which is important as there is no AC. There are ceiling fans, but they do not work. Do note that the house is extremely warm in their summer season and can get quite buggy. The power generator is not always functioning at full capacity so additional fans provided do not help. This also limits the amount of TV/movie time if that is something you like to do in the evening. The house is beautiful and charming, but it does feel like it needs a tiny bit more attention to make it perfect. Having said that, we loved our stay as we spent most of the time outside and on the back deck with a large table for eating and viewing the spectacular sunset every night. We walked the beach, read, kayaked and paddle boarded all day every day. We miss Nananu - i- ra already!

  • I am almost loathe to say how wonderful Sekoula Lodge is, for fear that it will get too busy and we wont be able to come back! But I feel I owe it to Jenny (the owner) and to Seva and Varni (the housekeepers) to confess that this was one of the most special places we have ever stayed as a family. The setting is simply perfect, with your own lawn leading to your own beach on either side of the the house - literally your own footsteps on the sand in the morning and no one else's - and your own reef a short swim away, combined with absolute peace and privacy for the duration of your stay. You should certainly be clear when booking that this is a proper "getaway" experience. You are a boat ride and a 20 minute taxi from any kind of shop at all, so you need to buy food for your stay and be happy to feel a little isolated. You also need to be relaxed about the electricity running out sometimes (no problem, as you can use the generator and Seva is easily contactable), not having aircon at night, not using a hairdryer and so on. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was certainly ours and we felt as though we had been dropped off in paradise! Jenny and Seva are extremely helpful and communicative and will tell you everything you know. However, if I were to offer any advice it would be the following: 1. Buy a sim card at the airport. 2. Before you arrive have a shopping list of basic ingredients (the supermarkets are limited) to last you for your holiday as you may be tired after your flight and then it is quite a feat to shop for the week. 3. Get plenty of money from the ATM at the airport (although there is an ATM in Rakiraki which is a 20 minute taxi from where the boat drops you off). 4. Do ask Seva to rent you some Kayaks or Stand- up paddle boards, which he will deliver to the house for you. So much fun! 5. Do bring fins if you like to use them, although goggles and snorkles are at the house (did I mention there is a reef a short swim off the beach?!) 6. Do take advantage of the Wananavu Resort, which is 10 minutes in a boat. Our children did their PADI open water diving qualification while we were there (ask for Josh). 7. Do ask Varni to cook for you (wonderful Fijian food). 8. Do go up to the new lookout point for the sunset. Enjoy!

    Rosheen2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a tropical island paradise, this is it. We had an incredible week staying here and would have extended our stay in a heartbeat if work hadn't been calling us back. We spent most of the week relaxing in the water, admiring the stunning views, lounging on the beach just down the stairs from the house, and leaving the island only to go scuba diving at the dive shop a 10-minute boat ride away -- and enjoying Varni's delicious cooking, especially the fresh fish prepared in lemon with fresh, hand-pressed coconut milk. The house is situated on the tip of a tiny (~20 house) island with no roads. There are completely undisturbed beaches on both sides of the house, a literal stone's throw away in either direction. The water and views are spectacular. The house is large, with a great kitchen, living room area, porch, and three very comfortable bedrooms. Jenny went above and beyond with offering to help arrange various parts of our trip for us, and Seva and Varni were wonderful. Seva was very accommodating, taking us to the main island in his boat (for 50 FJD per one-way trip). Varni cooked three incredible meals for us. This is a perfect place to stay for couples looking for a romantic getaway, families looking for a safe, comfortable place to relax together, and divers looking for an excellent place to come home to after a day of beautiful dives with Dive Wananavu (highly recommended for Open Water Diver and Advanced courses, as well as general diving -- the staff is fantastic). Tips: you feel very remote being on this island. Making a trip to town is half a day's adventure so Jenny recommended we buy most of our groceries for the week at the supermarket near the airport. I'd recommend doing that as well, though also be sure to ask if she or Seva can arrange to get some fresh fish from their local place for you. If you have an opportunity to try one of Varni's meals, say yes as quickly as you can. On another note, Jenny also recommended getting a SIM card at the airport. It was very useful for calling her and Seva, as well as the dive shop and other activities we were interested in checking out. I'd also recommend taking out a fair amount of cash in Nadi, as there are no ATMs that are convenient to get to from the house. Finally, note your flight arrival and departure times. It takes 2.5 hours to get from the airport to this house and you can only really do it during the daytime. We ended up having to stay in a hotel in Nadi (Jenny was kind enough to arrange the reservations for us) on the first and last nights of our trip because we were flying in too late and out too early to make the trip to Nananaru-i-Ra on the same day.

Unending views greet you each morning from the comfort of your private villa, as you wake up to the sound of the waves lapping the shore just footsteps away. Perfectly poised by the sea, you can take a morning stroll along the water’s edge, or grab your snorkel and fins and head onto the house reef for a morning paddle. Later, cool off with a dip in your private swimming pool and come together at the end of the day with your family in the spacious living area.
Relax with a glass of wine on your private terrace, play a game of cards, and watch the sunset and clouds reflect off the surface of the pool, and glimmer on the ocean. After the sun goes down, refresh by starlight in your outdoor shower and nestle into your plush bed for the night, while the kids rest easy in their own bedroom. Tucked away at the front edge of the property, overlooking the South Pacific Ocean and nearby Malake Island, you’ll find four brand new, breathtaking Luxury Beachfront Family Villas—the Suncoast’s most luxurious, secluded, oceanfront accommodation offering—designed to get you up close and personal with nature, while still feeling having the comfort and privacy of home. Inspired by our love for this part of Fiji, we wanted to get you as close as possible to the ocean, while still feeling remote and secluded from the rest of the resort. Our Luxury Family Villas are perfect for families, groups of friends, honeymooners looking for extra privacy and space. These rooms are suitable for four adults, or two adults and three children.
On the most northerly tip of Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu, lies a headland where, nestled amongst lush rainforest, thundering waterfalls, history-filled caves, sugarcane fields, abundant agriculture, thriving mangroves, and some of the earth’s healthiest coral reefs, you’ll find Volivoli Beach Resort—the premium, boutique, four-star, vacation destination on Fiji’s untouched Suncoast. From Nadi International Airport turn left towards the part of the island that gets the most hours of sunshine per year, the Suncoast. After a two-and-a-half hour picturesque drive, passing azure coastline, dense green jungle, rural, colourful Fijian villages, and fresh fruit stands along the way—stopping to allow the odd cow, wild horse, barefoot farmer or school children to cross the road—you’ll arrive at our remote island paradise, Volivoli. Bask in the sunshine around our oceanfront swimming pool surrounded by flourishing gardens, lounge in a hammock by the beach watching the sun rise and set, dine on inspired local cuisine in our two restaurants, enjoy a cocktail at one of our three bars, regenerate in our restorative spa, or explore a colourful underwater world on a diving adventure with Ra Divers, our world-class dive shop (with arguably the most modern set up in the South Pacific) on our daily trips to Bligh Water, where there’s some of the healthiest, thriving soft coral diving in the world. Later, head out on a deep-sea fishing excursion, try your hand at kitesurfing, dabble in our full suite of non-motorized water sports, or venture off to explore the enchanting surrounds of the Ra province. Secluded and remote enough to forget bustle of city life, but close enough (just 10 minutes) to Rakiraki town should you want to do some shopping and exploring, Volivoli has everything you need while still remaining rural and luxuriously untouched. Spread out over many acres on its own peninsula, our 32 ocean view rooms are comprised of four brand-new, two-bedroom luxury family villas, 11 newly-renovated premium ocean view bures, nine deluxe ocean view rooms, and eight standard ocean view rooms. Each room is found along garden paths that wind through brightly-coloured hibiscus, fragrant frangipani and flowering bird of paradise. The only sound you’ll hear in the morning at Volivoli are the birds singing, the ocean lapping the shore, and the quiet hum of the dive boat coming into the house reef to take out our divers—so relax and take in the quiet that is Volivoli. Being a family-run business means we’re approachable, and on-site at all times if our guests need anything—from a romantic dinner for two by the sea, or a special dietary concern. At Volivoli we’ve mastered the art of slow living, and we can’t wait to revel in it with you. – CONTINUED... DARLING FAMILY STORY What started as a backpackers lodge to accommodate off-the-beaten path adventurers in search of the best diving in Fiji back in the 90s, has evolved into the award-winning, four-star boutique resort Volivoli is today, still owned and operated with the heart and soul of the original owners—the Darling family. The Darling family moved to Fiji in 1993, when Steve Darling Senior took a contract to finish the last 35km of Fiji’s main highway, The Kings Road, from Rakiraki to Suva. He moved his family—his wife Gail and two sons Steve and Nick—with him from Murchison, New Zealand to Rakiraki, Fiji and immersed them in island life. The boys went to a local school, and learned to dive at a small dive shop, Ra Divers, on nearby island Nanu-I-Ra. When the contract finished, Steve and Gail retired on Nanu-I-Ra, and the boys headed off to boarding school in New Zealand. Things came full circle for Steve Junior, who after high school enrolled in a dive instructor course in New Zealand and soon returned to Fiji to work as a guide on the Coral Coast. It wasn’t long before he made his way back to Rakiraki to work for Ra Divers, where it all began for Volivoli. Shortly after Steve started working at Ra Divers, the owner of the dive shop and his family were unable to be in Fiji full-time to run the business due to illness, and when the opportunity presented itself—just over a decade after initially moving to Fiji—Steve and his mother made the spontaneous decision to buy Ra Divers while Steve Senior was back and forth between New Zealand renovating a small pub. It didn’t take long for the shop to gain momentum, and with more divers, the need for affordable accomodation was inevitable. One morning while Steve Senior and Steve Junior were fishing they spotted a large, beautiful sand bar and beachfront piece of land. They knew then it was special, tracked down the owner, which turned out the belong to their housekeeper’s family. They put in an offer and that fortuitous decision led to the creation of Volivoli Beach Resort. After traveling for a few years, the youngest son, Nick, made it back to Rakiraki with his girlfriend after a call from Steve Senior asking him to come help run the resort, which at the time was just 65 dorm-style bedrooms. He caught him at the perfect time—on a cold, rainy Sunday morning while he was living in London. Within a week he was on a plane back to Fiji and quite naturally fell into the marketing side of the business. Now, both sons, Steve and Nick have raised their families in their private homes on the property, and are immersed in Fijian life. Following in their father’s footsteps, all the children attend local Fijian school, and are learning to snorkel and dive with Ra Divers. As time went by and the resort kept growing. Then cyclone Winston hit—a massive tragedy that allowed for positive change at Volivoli. The resort suffered significant damage, but created an opportunity for a completely fresh start. The family decided together to rebuild, and at the same time to go in a brand new direction concentrating on a new market—a boutique, four-star resort, focused on providing the best value accommodation on the Suncoast. In March of this year we were awarded the quality accommodation award for Fiji, making us very proud of the the relaxed, luxury resort that Volivoli is today.

  • Jodie was in communication with me the entire time. She helped me figure out how to get up to them with multiple options at multiple price points. She absolutely went above and beyond. Her and her husbands hospitality was top notch. They even came and asked if I’d like to go into town with them for a grocery shop. Definitely get the BBQ pack! I know others have mentioned it and they were right. I BBQd on the grill while I took a dip in the pool. On the drive up my driver, who was an excellent tour guide, stopped at the road stands so I could get fresh veggies and fruit. (It was $130 Fiji one way from the airport, it’s less if you have more than one person) The pool was clean and cool, the sea was warm. I snorkeled out to the reef and watched the fish and giant blue star fish almost everyday. I brought my own mask and snorkel, idk if there were any there. The kayaks were there but I never used them. There’s not a big beach there, the tide goes way out during the day which is great, makes it easier to get to the reef. It was dark and quiet, the stars were incredible. Others have mentioned that there are bugs, yes there are. And a can of bug spray in the kitchen. If you’re terrified of bugs this is not for you, but if you’re willing to trade some bugs for one of the most tranquil beautiful spots you will be rewarded. Let’s see. I had hot water the whole time. Two fans running kept it cool enough. There was a kettle, countertop oven with two hot plates on top. A few pots and pans, plates cups, basically everything you’d need. A fresh coconut everyday! There’s very little cell signal, you can buy a little WiFi thing but personally I didn’t want to be reached! They do have WiFi up at the main house if you need to connect for anything. I could text but photos took a while to send. Definitely couldn’t load apps or anything so download your ebooks and relax! I was able to hot spot one day and download a few books from my library to my kindle. There were fresh eggs, passion fruit, pineapple, mangos, coffee, tea and milk all there when I arrived. I’m sure it depends on the season as to what fruit you get, it was great to have a sweet snack when I got there. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

  • The stay was very enjoyable, the room has a beautiful view with a lovely breeze that makes it perfect for afternoon naps. The balcony is a great place to relax after a swim in the pool or a kayak off the beach. We had a BBQ one evening next to the pool and enjoyed the stunning sunset colors of the sky. The hosts Ben and Jodie are friendly and helpful. The small touches like clothes pegs for the bure washing lines, nice shower gel in the bathrooms and breakfast packs upon arrival really enhance the stay. We would love to stay again and would highly recommend to others

  • We really enjoyed our stay here - really spacious room and fantastic grounds. Particularly loved all of the fruit trees and sunsets from the deck.

  • Jodie and Ben's place was just so perfect to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of volivoli. We had the bungalow next to the ocean, what a great sight to wake up to in the morning! We also enjoyed the fact that it's close to the resorts of the area to have a drink there. The breakfast and fruit basket was perfect. We also took the BBQ pack which was more than worth it! Jodie and Ben are amazing hosts, ready to help and so friendly. We would definitely recommend to spend some time there.

  • Jodie and Ben are very friendly and helpful hosts. The accomodation is tidy and well equipped. It‘s definitely worth it to go there.

  • Nice quiet place and the sound of waves. Small well equipped studio. Nice view of the terrace and even of his bed. The couple is welcoming and friendly and accommodating if needed. They are very responsive. I did not have much time to enjoy the pool but it is large in a nice well maintained garden. I had a good relaxing time despite the greyness. The coast is rather beautiful. An idea of the following world because there is not much next. That said nice hotels where dinner eventually. Just a little negative point. The insulation between the studios is very fine .... better to have quiet and non-snoring neighbors .... luckily the sound of the waves covered that. Petit dej appreciable and complete. A little local jam would have been appreciated moreover. Thank you

  • Fantastic place, very clean and tidy, comfy bed. Complimentary butter and toast and half a dozen eggs was a great touch for our breakfast! The deck was lovely for evening drinks and a chat in the warm breeze. Jodie was an amazing host! Really lovely to talk to and very kind. We highly recommend staying here it was very handy to nearby lodges and scuba diving and had great privacy and quiet!

  • Beautiful views up on the hill. The villa was clean. Check in was easy. Nice wide shower heads. The pool was refreshing. Very happy with the stay. They even left flowers and a cute cake for my birthday. You can walk down the hill to the resort for diving and ocean swims. Would recommend, great value! Vinaka.

  • Absolutely beautiful villa with a fully equiped kitchen, beautiful well kept garden. The views from the private (huge) balconies were stunning. Polite staff that are always smiling and happy to help. Option to order food to room or go up and eat in communual area. I personally loved the dahl soup. All the food was full of flavour and can be cooked with more or less spice pending your tastebuds. Lovely relaxing place. Several nearby resorts. Affordable and reliable taxis arranged by office if needed. Boat trips, fishing and snorkling trips can also be done via the office. Found out the villas are built to withstand a Cyclone 5 which was very reassuring. Had a fantastic time here and hope to return in the near future.

  • What a find, magnificent villas set on a hill with extensive views of islands, coral sea and hillside. You can enjoy three resorts without having to be disturbed by them or pay their prices if you choose not to. Delicious food delivered to your villa by charming staff who do their very best to please. We will be back!!

  • Definitely stunning views from villa and pool area! Spacious and well equipped. On site staff 24 hours and very friendly. Recommend hire car to explore, and to shop at Rakiraki a short 10 km drive which has local supermarkets and village produce markets. This is the real feeling of Fiji! The Wananavu resort a short walk away has a bar and restaurant with nightly happy hour and even kava time. If driving be careful of animals, people, buses, trucks and lots of speedbumps in the many villages! Enjoyed the whole experience. Bruce and Wendy, Australia
