Anne’s place is beautiful, spotlessly clean, has lovely comfortable beds, good kitchen and cooking facilities and a relaxing seating area looking over lush green Galway fields. • Lovely rooms and a beautiful garden - Maggie kindly gave us some poppy seeds to take home for our garden. The house is in a quaint village and it's worth the short walk to the river where you can sit and just chill. My bed was super comfy and the shower was perfect. I appreciated the late check-out as I'm not an early riser. Maggie is a great host and very kind. Would stay here again for sure!

What we didn't expect from her was lovely home made bread, scones and sausage rolls at breakfast and a lovely touch of a cream egg at breakfast on Easter Sunday! Maggie was full of great info for the surrounding area to help fill our time. Maggie's home was perfectly places for a wedding at Coolbawn Quay which is just under a 10 minute drive away. Fishing, horse riding, water activities and walking can all be enjoyed within easy reach, and for a day trip to remember, just over an hour away is the cultural city of Galway waiting to be discovered. Offering peace and tranquility, and with so much to see and do nearby, this wonderful cottage is the perfect traditional base for your romantic getaway.

  • We had a wonderful time in Oldhort cottage! It is ideally situated between Portumna and Flowerhill (we came to ride horses there). You can reach the centre of Portumna by foot in 10 min and by car in 2. And Portumna is almost in the heart of Ireland so zou can visit all the beatiful places from there. I really enjoyed sitting on the chair outside and drinking my morning coffee as I looked at the beautiful green scenery surrounding the cottage. Inside there is everything you need, including HEATING, DISHWASHER and a washing machine in the main house that you can use! I must say these things make a difference to the quality of the holiday. And a big thank you goes for the company of the owners of the cottage - Dennis and Ita. They made us feel like we are at home from the moment we got there! And as I had just broken my arm, the friendliness, the help and the support was really appreciated. It is the first time I felt like I am at home instantly. We are definitely planning to came back next year!

  • So here it goes: Oldthort Cottage in Portumna is a beautiful and peaceful hide away from the rest of the world. Surrounded by excellent nature views and elegant horses with a very homey housing. Our host Denis is a wonderful host and we highly recommend everyone to stay at Oldthort Cottage in Portumna. Here not far is the most amazing Portumna Forest Park where one could walk hours on end. The most fabulous stay we have had in Ireland. PS! the wifi here is super fast, so wether on business or vacation, here you are always well connected. We enjoyed our stay at Oldthort Cottage and will surely return.

The annual Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival takes place in the town in August. The festival includes a variety of events over the week long period including the vintage parade, period markets, music & theatre. The Irish Game and Country Fair takes place in Birr Castle at the end of August and provides a huge range of entertaining and educational activities, displays and attractions over the weekend. Birr Theatre and Arts Centre is an important cultural and social amenity for the town and has hosted such acts as Mundy, Jack L, Pat Short, Des Bishop and many local and national theatre groups. More information can be found here: (URL HIDDEN) Portumna is situated 15km to our west, in County Galway. Julia's Cottage is set in a rural location close to Lough Derg , Coolbawn Quay and Terryglass .
The original part of the farmhouse is approx. 200 years old with additions in the 1940's and 1970's. Recently it has been updated and refurbished along with the adjoining farm yard with its historically significant and older byre house. Generations of our family have called this special place home and we hope you will come and stay for a while and experience its welcome.Adjacent to the cottage there is a shed with Toilet and wash hand basin and a place to leave fishing gear booths and small freezer for bait etc which can be locked. Its also suitable for Bike storage . There is also she'd available for boat storage at no extra charge.
The house is located on a scenic lane 150m from the road in the townsland of Brocka. This is a fertile farming area bounded to the east by the Brocka and Kilgarvan hills and to the west by Lough Derg on the river Shannon. It is just under a mile by road to the lake. Terryglass is approx 3 miles and Coolbawn Quay is approx. 2 miles.

  • Patrick was a great host! We got lost on the way to his place and he waited until 1 am for us. His place was cozy and in a beautiful area. He provided some breakfast items, which was a great convenience. Although the little house is not that close to the big tourist attractions, the countryside was really lovely and it wasn’t too far to Nenagh, which is a proper town with a nice shopping street to stroll on and good supermarkets.

    Danielle2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We were in the property from 10.7.19 to 19.7.19 and enjoyed it very much. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. Patrick was a very friendly host and even provided us with bread, milk and fruit. There was everything you needed to be able to take care of yourself very well. The environment is very quiet and beautiful, it was also great to have cows as neighbors

Recently awarded 'Most Unique Listing in Ireland' by Airbnb! This cabin is nestled in a tranquil woodland setting, with uninterrupted panoramic views over Lough Derg all the way to the Sliabh Aughty hills in Galway. The cabin is far away from busy roads and street lights and is a haven of birdsong, starry nights and spectacular sunsets with "one of the best views we have ever woken up to". Fully equipped with kitchen, bathroom and lofted bedroom; and is suitable for all seasons.
You have a seperate entrance and car parking facility. We live adjacent to the cabin but it is not overlooked. The cabin was designed and built by Stephen (a master carpenter) who was inspired by the 'Tiny Homes Movement' which advocates living simply on a smaller scale. It is built from locally sourced timber, is fully insulated and has low voltage led lighting; all designed to increase sustainability and minimise the environmental impact. Although small in scale, the cabin contains everything you could need for a perfect holiday experience.
This area is far from the busy tourist trails and is a well-kept secret haven of natural beauty. However, our central location means you are only an hour from the 'Wild Atlantic Way' and less than two hours from Dublin.
  • A perfect little place to get away and relax. We had a lovely despite most places being closed due to covid-19. We spent more time walking and sight seeing and zero time in the pub, it was actually great. Would definitely recommend you check this place out.

  • Steve and Aine are wonderful hosts. They picked and dropped us in Nenagh city centre as we didn't have our own vehicle. They provided us with all the essentials we asked for and helped quickly. The house itself is so full of amenities that we enjoyed every bit of the "Human nest." Enjoyed the nature at it's best. Birds chirping and the smell of the wet ground and grass was therapeutic and made us feel content. Amazing place to stay. Go for it. ♥️🙂

  • Rita and her husband were so kind to us during our stay. We flew into Dublin and expected to be at their place for 7:30 and unfortunately our flight was delayed and we didn’t arrive until 9:30 PM, they were both more than understanding and responded back with any questions we had. A note to future travellers, use google maps and not Apple maps! Google maps will take you directly to their spot! When we arrived we didn’t have time to stop and were only able to pick up yogurt and milk for our daughter. Rita and her husband provided bread, butter, coffee tea and fresh eggs for us to have in the morning. They also had a fire going for us and the cottage warmed prior to our arrival. Amazing hospitality and truly kind hearted people, We would recommend their air bnb in a heart beat!

  • Traditional cottage with modern facilities. Marian and John are very friendly and helpful. They addressed any concern quickly and with a smile. I would recommend their cottage as a great stay with access to many attractions within a short drive. And make sure you spend a few evenings in the jj Hough singing pub in Banagher. Great music and company.

  • The cottage has great old world charm about it, but with all the conveniences any guest would need. We slept very, very well here. Very calm quiet and relaxing.

  • A very homely cottage, warm and comfortable, set in a lovely rural location. Although on a road that's a single track, it was easy to reach, with quick access to larger routes and the town of Banagher.

  • The perfect place to spend a honeymoon. It’s quiet, clean, cozy with a beautiful country side. When there was clear skies we were able to stargaze and see all the beauty of night. I felt truly relaxed staying at the cottage. Marian and John were very pleasant to talk to when we saw them around the property. We will definitely look forward to go back!

  • This was a wonderful place to stay if you want a nice relaxing getaway in farmland. It was very cold if the heaters weren’t turned on, keep in mind you’ll be spending around 8-12 euro a day using the electricity meter that controls the stovetop, lights, energy and heaters. Make sure you get a clear description of how to put the coins in, or else they might be eaten! However, the hosts were wonderful and are always around to help with whatever you need. Beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. Sean and Rosaleen were fantastic hosts and always wanted to help with whatever they could help with. We were so grateful to have met these two! Place was easy to find on google maps and perfect if you want to take a day drip in any direction. Portumna was about a 10 minute drive with an ALDI and an awesome castle! Overall, it was a wonderful stay. It is cold in March, however the place heats up well. Make sure to be prepared to use the meter that only takes 2 euro coins. We will definitely be back!

  • This is the perfect relaxing plàce to stay. It's super dog friendly and they have a cracking small westie, called buddy. We loved it and for value for money its unbeatable. The pubs close by where great all of them,??. If you need any advice Sean and Rosalee are there to help. Fabulous place

  • Spectacular.

    Eva Maria2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely little farm in the middle of nowhere ;-) If you are looking for some quiet place amid the beautiful landscape in the very heard of Ireland, this is definitly THE spot. Perfect for daytrips in every direction. Ideal for families with children, lots of space for playing ball and green meadows for running around. Our small one instandly fell in love with the little white dog, while the big one really loved the three horses on the farm. Sean and Rosaleen were entirely helpful in giving us tipps for places of interest, playgrounds, etc... We were even allowed to pick up some vegetables from the small herb garden. So overall we totally recommend that little pearl of an accommodation to everyone who wants to explore the Emerald Isle or just need some really nice place to relax!

  • A beautiful and remote farm in the nature. The room is spacious and very nicely prepared and Lorraine and her family are really perfect hosts - friendly and helpful.

    Moritz2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ireland is full of hidden gems to stay and Lorraine's country retreat is soberly one of them. If you want a comfortable retreat with excellent hospitality and warm welcome, then look no further.

    Colm2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Lorraine’s place for six nights. As depicted by the photo, the room is really spacious and full of natural light. It has two huge windows with views across the fields, which made for a sense of peace and tranquility. The bed was comfortable and there was a generous supply of towels, bedclothes, tea-making stuff, etc. Lorraine is a friendly, chatty, caring and considerate host - always one step ahead with anticipating a guest’s needs. Right from the beginning, communications with her were quick, easy and straightforward. She went over and above to help me while I was staying there - giving me lifts, catering for my dietary needs, checking on bus and train timetables, telling me about local attractions, and even on my last night taking me out to hear some great Irish music at a pub in nearby town. (This was in Banagher - make sure you go there if you’re in the area.) I can also recommend the nearby town of Birr - a vibrant and pretty town whose castle has extensive and impressive grounds. It is noted on the site that this is a family-run operation with two young children, but really, i never heard any evidence of this - once in my room, I found it a haven of tranquility. So, I would recommend this place if you’re wanting an escape from the hustle and bustle. Also, if you’re travelling by car, it’s a good central location for exploring the area.

    Peta2019-08-12T00:00:00Z

  • I stayed in Gurteen House for one night. It is a traditional farmhouse in a quiet rural area. I got a great warm welcome from Lorraine and Tom. They truly are superhosts My room was warm, clean and spacious with tea/coffee making facilities and my bed was also clean and very comfy. I would have no problem recommending this property to anybody and would gladly stay here again

  • Fantastic hosts, made me feel very welcome, couldn’t have been any better. Location ideal with some beautiful towns within few minutes drive away.

  • Higly recommended! Lorraine has been a fantastic host. Not only for the way her and her husband welcomed me , made me feel at home but also for the help I got as I had a few issues with my account. She called me and she helped me a lot. If I had to come back to Portumna, I wouldn't hesitate in booking her place again. Good position, very spacious bedroom( very comfy bed!!) and lovely breakfast. If you are not a 'local' like me, in Lorraine's house you can experience the typical irish welcoming atmosphere which makes this country so fascinating and warm .

A little gem hidden in among the trees. The hosts Jenny and Kieran add even more to this wonderful place. The grounds are massive and fun to explore for all ages. There is lovely walks through the forest and down by the lake and quay. Whats even nicer about this place its very nautral and not over manicured. I Just can't say enough wonderful things about this place and it’s lovely hosts Jenny and Kieran. They are very friendly, personable, helpful and laid back at the same time. It was great to hear all their interesting stories from their travels too. Very informative about the history of the place and great interest in the surrounding nature. While it is set in a tranquil setting it is also just 2km down a lovely country road from the picturesque and buzzy village of Terryglass. 2 great pubs both serving good food and with live traditional Irish music. The quay is within walking distance of the village. We stayed her three nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend. . I booked Primrose cottage along with the house and apartment together for my 50th birthday. Fantastic Many, many thanks to Jenny and Kieran! Highly Highly recommended. Louise
