  • We had a wonderful time in Peters cottage. A quiet and peaceful location but so easy to get to from the M6 and 5 minutes from Sedburgh. The whole place was clean and looked lovely and the rooms were spacious. The hot tub was clean and good for the evenings, and when it was too cold we had the log burner going to. The scenery nearby is beautiful. Would definitely stay again, thanks Peter!

You I had great times being a guest through airbnb before I began hosting and I want my guests to have a great time being here too. I like meeting people and finding out about their lives and travels. I live separately so guests can relax and enjoy the privacy of their own home from home. But I'm also only next door so I'm usually on hand to offer advice about places to go or if you need help or there is anything which needs sorting out. I also have friends who help me with cleaning and they are close by too if by any chance I'm out of town. Kendal is a market town on the edge of the Lake District. • Very nice spacious ground floor of big Victorian house near Kendal centre. Lovely walk up to castle behind house and across river at bottom of road. Comfy beds, nice big kitchen, lovely and warm. Friendly helpful co-host Merv was on site and nice touches included lovely loaf, jam and milk. Highly recommended

  • Rachel’s place was perfect for us. The accommodation was situated in a quiet road about 10 minutes’ walk to the centre of Kendal. It was warm, cosy, exceptionally clean and beautifully furnished with little quirky touches. Kendal is a lovely little town with plenty of choice for eating and drinking. We had a lovely time and will definitely return.

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets). Beautiful countryside location! The property is surrounded by very beautiful views. The house is located between Kendal and Sedbergh and is close to the Lake District. The house itself is huge with 4 large family bedrooms. The main family room has one super king size and is en suite. There are two more family bedrooms both with a double bed and a single bed in them., then the 4 th bedroom has a king size bed, all bedrooms are very spacious. There is a large living room with a real log burning fire and a large dining area

  • The house was just perfect for a family party - something for everyone. It had everything we needed and the little touches, such as the fresh flowers & basket of logs for the fire made it feel really special. The thoughtful addition of the robes for the hot tub meant that even Storm Dennis couldn’t prevent us from daily hot tub time!

    Kim2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to help celebrate my 21st. The house is gorgeous and in a very scenic location. Would stay here again!

  • This is a beautiful farmhouse and you will not be disappointed should you visit. There was 9 of us and fitted us all comfortably. Pool table for the boys and hot tub for the rest of the family and a nice little sing along on the piano. Great spot away from the hustle and bustle with amazing views. You will not be disappointed with this little gem.

  • The house is beautiful and in a great location! I would definitely recommend staying here!

    Lucie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic house to host a family or group of friends. There are wonderful spaces to socialise, cook, dine, play puzzles- everything you want in a county home!

  • What a lovely house! My family stayed here for a special birthday celebration, and with a little toddler with an early bedtime, this was perfect for the rest of us to enjoy nice cosy evenings in together. Beautifully decorated with such lovely touches of Christmas decorations and fresh flowers all over the place. The hot tub was great and it was lovely to walk around the grounds seeing the horses. Thank you for a really lovely stay

Shap Fell Bothy is located just inside the Lake District National Park, on Birkbeck Common, much of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of species diversity and rare upland habitat. The Common is home to one of the few remaining feral herds of Fell Ponies. The only near neighbours are the birds and the sheep. Shap village is 10 minutes away by car. There are shops, the famous Shap Chippy, heated outdoor swimming pool, pubs and bars. The Bothy is located on the main route from John O' Groats to Land's End, and in summer there are often walkers, runners, cyclists, motorbikers, vintage cars and even a unicycle making this epic journey. The Bothy is mentioned briefly in Wainwright's 'Guide to the Eastern Fells' which is essential reading for walkers. There is a remote weather station about 300 yards south of the Bothy, which can be viewed online. The station gives readings for rainfall, wind speed, visibility, humidity and temperature, and has a webcam which takes a picture every 20 minutes. The station can be viewed on the Cumbria County Council website - just search online for 'Shap A6 weather station'.

  • Stayed here with snow outside, but once the fire’s are going it’s no problem. Basic ‘bothy’ style inside but plenty of futon bedding upstairs so was great for two! As long as you read all the info you’ll know what to expect. Great little getaway!

    Emma2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place. Much bigger than originally thought! Wood supplied for log burner which kept us going through storm Ciara and gas heater upstairs which was lovely and hot . Lovely location. Will be booking again. Also the host was lovely and very accommodating.

    Nicola2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, if you are experienced in camping out in barns or bothies, this is an upgrade! Bedding was lovely and warm as the wind and rain rattled and the log burner took the edge off the chill. We had a fab night and will come again!

  • Completely amazing

    Vicky2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Relaxed and beautiful. A great spot to walk from or drive to local walks and explore a beautiful part of the country. Thank you to our hosts who were on hand when we needed them and left us to our devices for the rest of the time. Blue tits and red squirrels come right to the door to feed - just lovely.

    Lars2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true gem hidden away in the Lake District for the perfect getaway! We stayed in the Mill and the building itself was incredible, a fantastic open space with authentic wooden beams and spiral staircase! A very cosy interior with everything you need including a log burner for the perfect evenings. Coupled with the incredible location of being right next to Rutter Falls is a stay you will never forget. We came when the river was high so the waterfall was an incredible sight, we spent a lot of our time looking out from the balcony which is right on top of it. Such a peaceful location with the sound of the waterfall at night was almost therapeutic! Great walks literally on the doorstep and only an 8 min drive from great pubs and restaurants and a chance to drive through the river ;). Jane was a fantastic host keeping us well updated with arrival instructions and we were greated with a bottle of Prosecco and home baked bread! A fantastic stay all round.

  • A completely unique place to visit. Highly recommended.

    Elizabeth2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A quirky, unique, bespoke cottage with an amazing setting next to a beautiful waterfall, with the stream just a metre from property, and a birdseye waterfall view from the high level deck outside lounge. Red squirrels eating nuts on railings right outside window. Secure garden areas for dogs. Lovely welcome tray, and Jane the host had baked a homemade loaf for us which was still warm on arrival. Very quiet, peaceful, and relaxing location. A feeling of real seclusion with access only via the ford, or very long, narrow farm tracks.

    Karen2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely wonderful trip - the Mill is a gorgeous space and Jane and her husband were very welcoming and helpful. We went for walks and visited local restaurants, but also enjoyed cosy evenings staying in and playing board games in front of the log burning stove. We plan to return in the warmer months and make even more use of the beautiful surroundings. Can’t recommend highly enough!

    Emily2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding cottage, well equipped and very comfortable. We loved seeing the red squirrels helping themselves to the peanuts. The location just next to the waterfall is truly special. It's a pity it was very cold so we couldn't spend longer out on the decking. The bonus of having the log burner was very useful and made the cottage even more cosy. Jane and Jim live next door but leave you to enjoy your holiday but available if you need them. We appreciated the little extra touches of prosecco, home made bread and excellent jam. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Catherine2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Rutter Falls Holiday Cottages was the perfect place to unwind during our road trip around Northern England. We were welcomed with prosecco, homemade bread and jam from Jane & Jim, who are extremely kind, hospitable hosts. The cottage is well equipped with all the basic amenities you need, a working fireplace and plenty of books on red squirrels and the Lake District. It's an excellent hideout within driving distance to many surrounding towns. Highly recommended! Thank you again, Jane & Jim!

Our place is close to Ravenstonedale village (3 miles), which has two excellent pubs serving tasty, award winning food and beer. The beautiful Howgill Fells are literally outside the door. You’ll love it because of the comfy beds, the cosiness, and the views. It's is good for families or large groups to get together and enjoy the outdoors, or to relax in front of the cosy log-burning stove. If you are active, this is a mountain bikers paradise as well as being brilliant for walkers too.
The downstairs space is bright and light with an open-plan layout. There is a a well-equipped kitchen and spacious lounge/dining area. There is a wet-room downstairs with toilet, basin and shower and a laundry area with washing machine and dryer. The upstairs space includes 2 bathrooms, 2 double rooms, a dormer with 2 bunk beds and 2 singles and and an adjoining dormer with 2 bunk beds.
The area has recently been officially included within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A crossroads of footpaths lie outside the front door. Wainwright’s ‘Pennine Journey’ long distance footpath has recently been opened and the path is literally outside the front door! The popular waterfall beauty spot of Cautley Spout is a gentle walk away, through the ancient and unspoilt woodland of Murthwaite Park, and it is great fun to walk to Ravenstonedale (about 3 miles away) to a choice of two homely pubs which serve great food and beer. Another walk is to cross to the other side of the valley to Fell End Clouds – a notable area of limestone pavement, where you can pick up the Pennine Bridleway if you fancy a longer day out. For more stalwart walkers, the area really is your oyster. And if you tire of the Yorkshire Dales and want further challenge, it’s an easy car journey to the heart of the Lake District, with all it has to offer.
  • Excellent weekend here with 12 of us, there was plenty of room and plenty of space for cooking and eating! The location is great for a quite weekend with lots of walks to do nearby, couldn’t fault the hosts at all, Thankyou very much

  • Just want to say how much we enjoyed our weekend in this cottage. Even though the weather wasn't the best, we loved every minute of it and made the most out of the games and television. It genuinely felt like a home away from home. Cosy, homely, welcoming and the views where amazing. Rooms where perfect for our group too. Can't fault this place at all, we can't wait to come back in the summer!

  • Lovely cottage, excellent communication, really good location. Me and my friends had an excellent long weekend

    Sam2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We've just come back from a weekend at the barn for a surprise birthday and could not fault it! The barn is gorgeous - the photos really do not do it justice. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking for 14 people and the dining and living room space is perfect for everyone to dine and socialise together. It was so warm and cosy in the barn (incredible underfloor heating), perfect for a January weekend. Lynda and Fraser were great hosts, answering any questions prior to our stay quickly and were helpful in suggesting a walk and pub for us. We would definitely recommend a walk to the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale!

  • An amazing stay for a big group of friends to see in the new year. Stunning countryside, beautiful cottage, and very well equipped. Lynda and Fraser were very accommodating and kind. Would thoroughly recommend!

  • In a word our stay was perfect. The location is beautiful the cottage is immaculate and the most wonderful place we could have wished for to spend quality time celebrating our dad's birthday. Nothing was too much for Lynda and Fraser who kindly gave us some ice to save us a trip out and eggs for breakfast. I would rate the stay as outstanding and could not recommend this more. We would love to come back in the summer to make full use of the outdoor facilities too this place really is a gem. Thank you so much.

  • We booked Lynda and Fraser’s place for a big family Christmas get together and had a wonderful time. We found it to be a well equipped and lovely space for a large group of adults and kids to cook and socialise together. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, I loved the view of the sheep from the laundry room! Lynda and Fraser were responsive, kind and thoughtful hosts. Thank you for everything, we had a great stay!

  • Anna's place is in a great location and a cosy, clean and comfortable place to stay in Kendal and we had everything we needed. Anna was a lovely host and responded quickly. We would definitely return.

  • We loved our stay at Anna and Gavin’s cottage - it’s a lovely place which is conveniently located 5 minutes walk from Kendal high street. Anna was so helpful and friendly and gave us lots of recommendations of places to eat and visit. We’d definitely come back and stay again, as it was a perfect base to explore the Lakes!

    Craig2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The property is fantastic, perfectly positioned for a great stay in Kendal. A 5 minute walk and you are in the town center which offers fantastic shopping , food and pubs. With the benefit of access to the rest of the Lake District you couldn't ask for more. Its spotlessly clean, comfy seating and bed and a great shower. Highly recommended and definitely somewhere we will use again and again.

  • Lovely cottage walking distance to all of Kendal. Lots of information, maps etc and kind host. Coffee, tea breakfast items were a bonus! Great town to visit.

  • Great place for a peaceful break in Kendal.

    Robert2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anna was a great host and the cottage was perfect. It is just as explained, small but perfect for a couple to stay in. The temperature of the cottage was perfect with easy heating adjustments. Fantastic location because within 5 minutes from walking outside the front door you are on the high street. Couldn't of asked for anything better, would highly recommend.

    Chloe2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a fantastic location, only a small walk from the centre. Anna was lovely and responded to questions quickly. We didn’t venture out of Kendal but Anna suggested many different places that we could have visited around the lakes. There was a map of the centre but also once’s for if you were going further afield. Only downside was how cold it was at night (even with the heating on) so I would advise wrapping up. Overall was was a fantastic stay, would definitely go back.

South Cottage, Orton is a 2 bedroom cottage situated 6 miles from The Lake District National Park and nestled within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Orton itself is very popular and is situated on the famous Coast to Coast route. It has two cafes, a chocolate shop, a monthly farmers market, a village post office and a lovely village pub! The cottage is really cosy, pet-friendly and has super-fast WiFi. It has everything you could possibly need to make your stay welcoming, cosy and fun!
Whether you are an avid walker, an energetic cyclist, a family seeking a touring holiday or a writer relishing the opportunity for a calm, peaceful break, your stay in South Cottage is one you are unlikely to forget. The cottage has been beautifully presented throughout and has been designed to cater for all your needs - even down to the courtesy picnic hamper for those summer walks! Right in the heart of the village, South Cottage has Orton’s hidden treasures within a few steps of the front door. From the popular village pub with regular quizzes and events, the famous Kennedy’s Chocolate Factory (we dare you not to venture in!), the village post office and stores with well-stocked shelves and, for real foodies, the monthly Farmers Market, there really is something for everyone. On market morning, open the windows of the cottage and a waft of hot dogs, chestnuts and seasonal offerings fill the air. Orton is a favourite location for walkers, and forms part of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk. Wainwright himself described Orton as ‘one of the loveliest of Westmorland’s villages, a pretty, rural settlement built around a central green with two streams crossed by many footbridges and having numerous venerable buildings and a fine church on a hill overlooking tranquil countryside.’ With stunning local walks including the majestic Howgill Fells and Orton Scar, what will delight the walker, cyclist and driver alike is the wide range of scenery that surrounds the village. From picture-postcard charm, barren and dramatic expanses of limestone terrain to the gentle rolling hills and sheep grazing innocently by the roadside, Orton is truly blessed with a variety of landscapes. Despite all of this, Orton revels in its relatively undiscovered existence and keeps its beauty a secret – away from the hustle and bustle of the central lakes crowds. In the cottage, there is ample hanging and floor space for muddy boots (and paws), coats and rucksacks in the external porch. There is a stylish and separate kitchen which guests comment is very well equipped and features views across the village to the pub! The living room has wooden effect flooring throughout, a sofa, two modern arm chairs, a utility cupboard housing a fridge/freezer, a gorgeous table with seating for four, and the all important open fire. There is also a lovely inviting hallway with feature shelving, housing a wide range of literature. We've provided lots of books on the local area, guided walks and maps for you to use during your stay, plus plenty of board games and DVD's (from family ones to thrillers) for those rainy days or cosy evenings. The cottage has an attractive and quirky bathroom with lovely deep bath, electric shower over and additional hand held mixer tap over, plus plenty of storage for toiletries. The master bedroom is small but cosy and stylish! Inheriting a slightly awkward angle makes furnishing the bedrooms difficult, but we think the mixture of solid oak chest of drawers, matching bedside table and double bed with drawer storage underneath, plus a deep built in wardrobe with rail hanging make up for the lack of space! The second bedroom is bright and airy with plenty of storage - a built in cupboard with hanging space, under drawers in the single bed, a wicker rack of drawers and bedside table. A stone outbuilding provides space for you to stow away your bikes or other equipment as you require. The cottage also comes with a lovely rear patch of garden and a table with a bench - ideal for soaking up the evening sunlight and having a glass of wine in the open air. There is also a front garden which is less private but provides a view of the village – ideal for being nosey and watching life go by! There is allocated parking for one car, but there is also plenty of on-street parking just outside in the village. Please note that access to the double bed in the master is only from one side, so most suitable for the nimble. Sadly, dogs aren't allowed off the lead on the premises as the garden is not fully enclosed and is situated in a communal area. The front garden is lovely and only for the house, but it isn't fenced, so is unsuitable for dogs off a lead. Orton is nestled within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and yet is situated just six miles away from the Lake District border. The area is famous for lakes and mountains and stunning scenery, and Orton is certainly no exception. Even Scotland's only a half an hour away! There is so much to do in the area, that we're only scratching the surface, but the cottage has a large pack of leaflets for numerous things to do - from walking, horse-riding, golf, cycling, watersports, art galleries, boat cruises, historical houses, family days out. You won't have enough time to do it all! Orton village has a Post Office with a newsagents - where you can buy food, logs for the fire, newspapers, sweets etc. Kennedy's Chocolate factory is a definite must-see and only a few steps from the cottage door. As well as a large cafe, there are lots of lovely gift-ideas, sculptured chocolates and novelty items. The Farmers market is on the 2nd Saturday of every month and has a whole host of interesting foods, cheeses and wine. The smell of hot dogs and bacon baps wafts across to the cottage as the market is situated a few yards away! The George Hotel is a lovely, welcoming village pub - a popular stop over for people doing Wainwright's coast to coast walk. There are a large range of ales, food, regular activities and pub quizzes etc.
WALKING - Orton Scar and Great Asby Scar can be reached from the village, and the countryside surrounding the village has numerous footpaths and pretty lanes to discover - and up on Orton Scar you have panoramic views across to the Lake District, the Howgills and the Pennines! Right across the road from the cottage leads you straight onto footpaths which lead out to the fells. LAKE DISTRICT - Our favourite place to visit in the Lake District is Ullswater (for a memorable boat ride on the Steamers) and is around a twenty minute drive from the cottage across probably the most stunning landscape in England. Our tip is to park in Pooley Bridge and walk to Patterdale along the foreshore - stopping in Howtown for scones along the way (not that we're obsessed with scones of course). It is a full day's walking - or you can hop on and off the steamer which goes from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding, stopping at Howtown on the way. Haweswater is the nearest lake to the cottage, being a ten or fifteen minute drive away and is well worth a visit - very peaceful and tranquil and stunning scenery and of course lots of walking. You can walk up to the famous High Street from here - if you're brave enough to take the ridge walk. The Howgills are a popular days walking, with approximately 40 summits - several over 2,000 feet and were favoured by Wainwright. You shouldn't miss the opportunity to visit the village of Sedburgh while you're there. A drive from Orton to Sedburgh provides you with stunning mountain views and Dales charm, and a further excursion to Dentdale and the pretty (and popular) village of Dent is well worth it. While in Sedburgh, do visit the Howgills bakery (after you've done your walk of course!) and sample one of their scones - they really are the best we've ever tasted! RAILWAY TRIP - A trip on the Settle to Carlisle train line gives you one of the most stunning railway trips in Britain. A must do for all the family - try to stop off on the way to visit the villages it stops at for a perfect day out. GOLF - Riverside Golf Club in Ravenstondale (8 miles) is set in absolutely stunning countryside and new visitors are welcome. FISHING - available at the River Lune (2 miles) and the Bessy Beck Trout Fishery at Newbiggin-on-Lune. CYCLING - this is particularly popular in the area - you can plan your own routes using an OS map and meander around the Eden Valley and the Lake District, and venture towards the Dales. The Howgills have mountain bike tracks and Stonetrail Holidays in Ravenstonedale offer mountain bike hire, guided trips and refreshments. HORSE RIDING - Stonetrail Holidays in Ravenstonedale also provide guided horse trekking in the Howgills. Larkrigg Riding School in Kendal offers tuition and hacking in the surrounding countryside. TENNIS - there is a tennis court in Tebay (2 miles), and another in Ravenstonedale. BOWLING - a bowling green in Shap (7 miles) and also in Appleby (10 miles) SWIMMING - Shap has an open air, heated swimming pool. Kendal (12 miles) and Penrith (18 miles) both have leisure centres and Appleby has an indoor pool.
  • Lovely warm cozy cottage in a charming village with access to beautiful countryside and walks straight from the cottage. The cottage was so warm despite it snowing outside.

  • A cottage with all the amenities you could want. Especially if you go in winter as we did. It is attractive , very warm, and has really good facilities . I like to cook and there was everything I could wish for. As we are walkers and we have a dog, the place was ideal, easy to keep clean, plenty of hot water and very warm. Also within easy distance of the pub! My son was also very happy with the wifi!

  • I had a picture in my mind of what we were looking for in a place near the Lake District and this cottage ticked every box. Dog friendly, quiet location, cosy cottage and a log fire! The village of Orton itself was lovely with a cracking 'proper' pub just a stone's throw away. If travelling back up towards the Lake District, I would definitely stay there again.

  • Lovely cottage in a perfect location, just a short drive from the Lake District! The place is super cozy. Bedrooms are on the smaller size, but overall it's great value for money. The instructions were amazing, thorough and with plenty of suggestions on how to make our stay even better. Highly recommended.

  • A really lovely cottage and a perfect base to explore the Lakes away from the hustle and bustle of the busier areas.

  • We had a lovely time staying in Orton; it really is such a nice, quite lively village! It took us some time getting used to the heating/ warm water situation, but we greatly enjoyed the cottage! You could feel that everything was thought through: There was enough hanging space for our wet clothes, the kitchen had everything you could possibly need for cooking and baking... And the area is just lovely! A plus was the playground just across the street with views on hens and ducks which our 3-year-old loved immensely :-) Communicating with Chloe was brilliant, we can only recommend South Cottage!

  • If you want character it’s hard to imagine anywhere with more. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and was very clean. There was a bottle of wine and Christmas crackers on the table, milk in the fridge and some nice biscuits. Some reviewers have said its a little cold but there are many heaters if you read the instructions and we found it was warm even though it went down to -3 at one point. Would definitely stay again.

  • Orton Hall is truly beautiful and staying there was the most amazing experience. The local town was beautiful with a chocolate factory and a wonderful, homely pub! It's perfect to explore all the beauty around it, with so many amazing places to visit less than an hour away in all directions! My only advice is stay as long as you can, 2 nights was nowhere near long enough in this beautiful and relaxing place!

  • It was a nice mansion. The manager of the garden and Carol were very kind people, so it was easy to talk and stayed with peace of mind. The greenery in the garden was beautiful, and the cats and rabbits that came to play were cute. The sunset in front of me was very beautiful.

    Takashi2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Orton Hall is a phenomenal property. When we saw the pictures, we did not expect it to be as grand or gorgeous. A stay at this property is an experience you must not miss. The lawns are amazing and the property itself requires half a day to explore. It is very easy to explore lake district if you are driving from this location. Everything is within 45 mins of driving distance. Stephanie will give you clear and precise instructions which make the entire checking in process very seamless. We had an amazing stay and we look forward to coming back again! Tips for travellers: 1) always check the weather. It does rain alot 2) carry some groceries if you would like to use the kitchen.

  • A very comfortable, clean and well equipped house, in a lovely, quiet location. David went above and beyond, both with his communication before our trip, and with the little extras he left for us in the house. A very thoughtful touch! I would definitely recommend anyone to stay at Mintside, and would love to stay again myself!

Hilltop Lodge is a beautiful detached timber building set in enclosed garden (perfect for dogs). It's open plan, with a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on an evening, with well-equipped modern kitchen and dining area. It has large windows with lots of natural light. The garden is abundant in wildlife throughout the year, and has a lovely terrace to sit out on. It’s a great base for relaxing, enjoying wildlife, adventuring, or being creative. An 11am check-out will add to the relaxed feel.
Hilltop Lodge is set within an enclosed garden, surrounded by wildlife. The open plan character makes for a great space - light and airy in the summer but cosy in the autumn & winter months. There's nothing like a wood burning stove and the smell of wood-smoke to make you feel relaxed at this time of year. The Lodge is newly refurbished, and has a contemporary yet country feel to it. The kitchen is well-stocked & we provide plenty of firewood. Due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak, we're using conventional cleaning products for kitchen/bathroom/surfaces as a precaution, with extra diligence during cleaning between bookings. Plenty of hand-wash is provided, as well as anti-bacterial gel. There is absolutely no need to make contact with fellow humans either! It's set up for self-checkout so you can be assured that measures to reduce exposure here are minimised as far as reasonably possible. All your basics will be there such as tea, coffee, sugar, oils, spices & seasonings. We’ll provide some seasonal and/or local goodies to help you settle in, as well as games for you to while away the evenings or rainy days. Due to its peaceful setting, space and natural light, it’s perfect for those seeking somewhere to be creative away from the hubbub. There are free range chickens, ducks, children & a friendly, well-behaved dog so bear this in mind when you drive in through the main gates! (they aren't in the Lodge's garden). Hilltop Lodge is just a mile or so from Appleby, in the village of Colby where there are views of the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. Colby Beck runs through the village to the River Eden, and there are riverside footpaths to enjoy, just 2 minutes away. Appleby has lots of independent restaurants, pubs, butchers, grocers, giftshops, cafes, chemist and a gallery. Bolton (2 ½ miles away) has a great pub and makes for a pleasant evening bike ride. Dogs are very welcome (2 dogs max.). This project is part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Hilltop Lodge is the perfect place to base yourself if you’re looking for adventures or to relax in the Eden Valley or nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales or Pennines. There’s a huge network of footpaths and bridleways to explore, as well as National Cycle Network routes that pass the doorstep (incl. route 71) and through Appleby. Locally, we have well-marked footpaths and bridleways and you’ll a find map of the local area in the Lodge. We can recommend routes. Appleby is just a mile or so away, and there are plenty of pubs cafes and shops.
  • We had an unbelievable 2 night stay here and Annabella was a brilliant host. We arrived to a lovely cake and an easy check in! Amazing value for money and really beautiful location. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to unwind and enjoy themselves!

    Stacey2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Annabelle's hilltop lodge was just splendid. It was an incredibly easy check-in and there was cake for us on arrival. The lodge was spotless and, once the fire got going, it was so cosy! Amazingly comfy bed as well. The area was so relaxing too. Living in the city makes you forget what real peace can be like, and being at the lodge was a perfect little getaway to relax. We also got to spend some time with Annabelle's lovely on-site animals. We would definitely return!

    Alex2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay. The lodge was ideal for what we needed, nice and cosy with everything you could need. The fenced off area for the dogs was great too. We would definitely stay again as we all loved it.

  • We had a brilliant stay in a lovely location and fab lodge! The facilities were fantastic and loved the eco friendly and cruelty free products :) we will have to come back In the summer months to make the most of the garden, as it was great to watch the animals in the garden! The cake was also delicious 😍

  • We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Hilltop Lodge and it was absolutely perfect. Lemon drizzle cake on arrival was such a lovely touch, together with fresh milk, tea and coffee to help settle after a long journey! The cabin had everything you needed for a comfortable stay and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the log burner, once it got going it kept the whole place nice and warm. A great location for exploring the local area. Maps and suggestions are provided which was super helpful. We walked into Appleby from the lodge and visited Ullswater and Aira Force which was short drive, it was stunning. If you’re a member of the national trust you can park for free there - we paid £9 for 4+ hours! We had such a great weekend, would recommend to anyone. Thanks Annabelle!

  • My partner and I had a relaxing 2 night stay at Hilltop Lodge and it was absolutely perfect. A very tasty lemon drizzle cake was waiting for us when we arrived together with milk, tea and coffee etc. The log burning stove was a great addition which kept the lodge toasty warm. It's in a peaceful setting and is in a great location for exploring the local area. The ducks and chickens added to the charm and were fun to watch. We visited Ullswater and Aira Force which was about a 25 minute drive away. We hope to visit again!

    James2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place for visiting Appleby and the surrounding areas. The lodge was beautifully decorated, very clean and had everything we needed. We were even surprised by a lovely lemon cake when we arrived! There was also a full box of leaflets and maps to help find walks in the local area and things to go and do. Annabelle and her husband were very kind and welcoming. Thank you so much for such a lovely stay.

Up stairs is the double bedroom with ensuite shower room and large wardrobe. There is off road parking for 2 cars and small garden area for your exclusive use with gas bbq. Red squirrels, salmon and Kingfishers have been seen along Birk Beck. Steam trains can be seen from Scout Green throughout the summer months giving the feeling that time has stood still. Orton is a delightful village with a pub, cafe, post office and a Chocolate factory along with a regular farmers market. Lowther Castle and Gardens are well worth a visit and just 15 minutes drive away. Lowther Host Kendal Calling a great family independent summer music festival. and Penrith's Drovers festival in October is worth visiting too.
  • We loved our stay at Millers Rest. Although it was a quick work visit, I felt very relaxed in the cottage and really enjoyed our short time there. The freshly baked scones on arrival were a lovely touch after a long drive up there too! Thanks for a lovely stay and thanks again for the dog lead loan!

  • Lovely place, lots of character and great location.

    Debbie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful spot for a lakes getaway with my 5 year old son. Lovely host that even left us freshly baked cupcakes on arrival. We loved that it was off beaten tourist track. It was the perfect location to get everywhere we wanted to go but quiet, quaint and beautiful. Its very close to Orton which is a lovely little village with a couple nice cafes, chocolate factory, and a good pub. There were some games, puzzles and loads of dvds if you are into staying in, but we spent the few days there touring around all the gorgeous outdoors stuff around and it was the worst weather imaginable. Highly recommended no matter what the weather. Would love to go back.

    Melissa2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for somewhere secluded and quiet and don't mind driving to different areas in the lake district then this place is perfect. Books, dvds, game boards all there with a nice welcoming gift.

    Jade2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start....From start to finish Claire has been the absolute perfect host. Quick with responses, very informative and helpful and just couldn’t do enough for us and our dogs whilst we celebrated our joint birthday. The cottage is lovely and cosy with everything you need and we even got a homemade birthday cake each with candle which was a wonderful touch. Unfortunately our wonderful weekend ended in disaster on our way home due to the floods and us needing to be towed 87 miles back home. Claire very kindly picked us back up and let us stay in the cottage until recovery arrived and even fed and watered us. After waiting for hours we asked if we could pay to stay an extra night as it was rather late and Claire happily allowed us and even took us back to the car to pick up essentials. Overall a super hostess who we cannot thank enough and will certainly recommend to friends and family. We hope to be back but without the same outcome as this time!! Thank you for everything Claire and Dave. Helen, Kerry, Chase and Whitley.

    Helen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The property was ideally located for a weekend away. Claire was a brilliant host, left us lots of information of things to do in the area. Including dog friendly options. The scones on arrival were a lovey touch too. Would recommend to anyone and we can’t wait to stay again!

Brackenber Byre is a pet friendly, cosy cabin, in an old Cumbrian hill top farm where you can escape the overload of daily life (No WiFi). Enjoy the log fire, 100% cotton sheets, deep bath, luxury towels and Bluetooth speaker. The Byre is in the beautiful landscape of the Westmorland Dales and the ideal location for biking, walking, photography, seeing wildlife & star gazing. The Byre sleeps two in a double bed, is heated by a log burner, has a small kitchen, a bath and WC.
A stay in the Byre is an opportunity for you and your pet to completely escape the overload of daily life, so it has no WiFi. Many years ago the Byre was used to keep sheep in. Now it is a cosy cabin but retains many of its original features such as the wobbly walls and oak roof beams. Many farm animals live in the fields around the Byre so please keep your pooch on a lead. The Byre has parking for one car right outside and is separate from the main farm house, so you have your own private entry door. The porch area is a good place for hanging wet coats as the stone floor has a drain. All the windows have locally made oak sills with a waney edge, a charming feature. The floor is reclaimed vintage pine. The double bed is hand made by a local carpenter as are the oak window frames. The stained glass window in the WC is also made by a local craftsman. The bed sheets are 100% cotton, sateen weave and all the bedding and towels are from Christy. The kitchen utensils are by Denby, all of the finest quality. In the centre of the Byre is a circular log burner with all round glazing so the flames can be seen from all parts of the space. The log burner is the only form of room heating but once its going the Byre warms up very quickly. Next to it is a table and two cosy chairs. The kitchen area is very small and has a microwave, toaster kettle, sink and a small fridge. At the opposite end to the bed is a luxury deep bath with a shower tap. Piping hot water is available on demand via the exterior gas boiler. All you do is turn the tap to the left. A screen can be pulled out to provide extra privacy if required. In the roof is a Velux window which provides a lovely view of the surrounding tree tops from the bath and allows in lots of extra light. It has a blackout blind as do the main windows and door. Outside you have your own section of garden, near the wildlife pond, with a picnic area overlooking the dramatic rolling hills and the western slopes of the Pennine ridge. The garden is full of wildlife and the fields are most interesting during lambing time which starts about the 17 March and then afterwards the wild flowers grow till the grass is cut on about the 10 July. All the sheep and cows and sometimes the horses and a donkey are allowed back in soon after. During clear nights the star gazing here is very good.

  • Honestly one of the loveliest experiences I've ever had at an Airbnb. The location was so peaceful and quiet, as was the byre it's self. So glad we stayed here and can't wait to come back already.

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Byre and I can't recommend it highly enough! I stayed for two nights over a weekend as I wanted a cosy getaway in the countryside, and it absolutely fulfilled that. The property itself is gorgeous - finished to a very high standard, kitted out very tastefully with everything you could need, very clean, comfortable and warm. The logburner, free-standing bath, and comfortable bed were the highlights. Great location for long walks in the countryside, but very accessible too, and plenty to do around. Jon was very communicative, accommodating and friendly - I felt very safe, and couldn't have asked for a better host. I can't wait for my next visit!

The open plan kitchen/living room on the top floor is stunning. Previous Customer, 3 December 2018 Fantastic house in a beautiful location. Brilliant facilities and very comfy beds. food in the pub was very good. Cannot wait to come back again. Previous Customer, 9 September 2018 Fabulous house! Everything there we needed. Visited Ullswater and loved Haweswater Reservoir. Nice meals over at The George. Definately come back for another visit. The Heald Family, 1 September 2018 Lovely time at the cottage. Visited Hawswater to see the sunken village and the waterfall at Ullswater. The pub over the road is lovely! All in all we had a lovely time. Newton Family, 28 July 2018
The village has a small local shop, coffee shop (which is part of a chocolate factory) and a cafe. The local pub serves great food and drink. Monthly farmers market ( 2nd weekend of the month)
  • A really lovely place well worth the money, don’t bother getting a static caravan when you can stay here. The rooms are all a good size, so plenty of space for the family. The living space is all open plan and very family friendly. There are places nearby to eat and drink, including the pub straight across the road. When they say this place is pet friendly it really is inside, with dog bowls available and our poodle found a tennis ball which she had great fun rolling around, as well as being able to see out the top floor window to watch people walking by. The only down side would be that we couldn’t just let the dog out for a wee, but there is a patch of land outside the market hall behind the house. The spring mattresses are of decent quality so you don’t feel a spring in your back in the middle of the night. Internally the house is very modern, a lovely big oven and hob, dishwasher as well as fridge and freezer all in the kitchen, with both washer and dryer in the utility room on the ground floor.

  • This is a beautiful house. It’s got good sized rooms, is in a nice village and you won’t regret booking it. Hayley was quick and easy to deal with. Key things for me were, good sized bed rooms, a cute bedroom for the kids and a massive upstairs living area. A small parking space next to the back door meant unloading and loading was easy. All in all a great stay. The local shop has a good selection of essentials and there is a pub within stumbling (or even crawling) distance.

  • Our second visit to the cottage for a long weekend. Just as good as last time, spotlessly clean and very cosy. Drove to Buttermere in the Lakes and Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales, both easily accessible and great to visit. Recommend ‘The Butchers Arms’ in Crosby Ravensworth for lovely food. Thank you David and Sharon, we hope to come back again.

  • Gill’s place is fanstastic. We had an amazing stay in Orton and spent most days hiking through the countryside. My boyfriend and I were truly impressed by the cottage and Gill’s quick replies to our questions! Would recommend this space for anyone looking to hide away (in complete comfort) from the world for a week.

    Shana2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! Orton is superbly located for the eastern fells of the Lakes, Howgills and the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It's also a beautiful village for spending time within and around. The cottage itself was really comfortable for two (and a dog!). It's an attractive space with everything you need, a soft bed and hot power-shower. All of which is appreciated after a windy day up on High Street for sure! Gill was in touch throughout booking and arriving and also popped over to say hello and so we knew we could contact her if needed. Would totally recommend....

    Elaine2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location, cosy cottage, great hosts, and dog friendly! What’s not to love! Thank you Gill!

    Alishea2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cumberland Cottage is the cutest little cottage, a real romantic getaway for a couple. Gill and her lovely family live next door, however Gill will come and say hello on your arrival and from then on is there only if you need anything. The quaint chocolate shop and café are right opposite the Cottage, and there is also a café along the road. There is a also a small, but well stocked shop in the village. The Cottage is a great base to explore the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes. And after all that fresh air you will enjoy the huge bed, and a fantastic shower in the mornings. There are some lovely pubs out towards the Lakes and the Dales which serve delicious food.

    Marian2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely & had everything we needed. Very clean. Great pub across the road & the chocolate factory coffee shop was fab.

    Fiona2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic accommodation, good space and well laid out, a very well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed. Perfect base for exploring the Dales and Lakes. Numerous walks from the front door and beside Kennedy’s chocolate factory. Best options for eating out are a few miles away, Butchers Arms nearby is a must! Hosts excellent and would highly recommend this accommodation.

  • Tina and Jim looked after us really well, giving us advice on where to eat before we arrived, making us feel welcome when we arrived, and some ideas for walks in the Lake District while we were there. Being located right between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, and not far off the motorway, it's easy to get to, and it's easy to get to some nice walks. Thanks again Tina and Jim!

Far Field Yurt is situated in its own 3 acre meadow looking out over the Howgills. Perfect for anybody who is looking to explore the lovely countryside and then retreat back to our delightful yurt. The Yurt is large and spacious, it boasts beautiful panormaic views to be admired from the double hammock. We are an eco-friendly campsite and the Yurt has it's own private composting toilet and solar power for lighting and charging phones and tablets.
We have thought about every little detail, so when you stay with us there is no need for you to bring bedding, BBQ's or camping chairs! The Yurt has its very own kitchen equipped with all the essentials and more. The Yurt is filled with all kinds of comforts including a wood burning stove, blankets, cushions, hot water bottles, games and of course fairy lights. There is solar power to give you plenty of lighting inside as well as USB phone charging. A pleasantly surprising private toilet nestled away in the trees with fantastic views!
We are located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a short drive to the Lake District. There are two lovely village pubs serving great food and real ales, just 10 minute walk from the Yurt.
  • The yurt is lovely - cosy and warm - even in October with lashings of rain! The yurt is eco friendly - solar power charges and a compost toilet set back from the yurt in a wooded bit - you need a torch if you need to go in the nighttime! The area is beautiful with friendly sheep who come to say hello! The bed is comfortable and warm and the yurt has a clear dome where you can watch the stars at night . We had a magical stay and will be back!!

    Michelle2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • 2nd visit to the yurt and it doesn't dissappoint. Everything you need provided and more, beautiful part of the country for a little escape and lovely hosts! Will definitely be back again. :)

    Hannah2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing place. Magnus's yurt is comfy, clean and the views are stunning. Beautiful plants and trees all around the yurt and great facilities for cooking. The showers are amazing! Magnus was extremely helpful before and during our stay and made everything stress-free. Easy to get to by public transport (short taxi from Kirkby Stephen) and walks in the surrounding area were great. We highly recommend the Sunday roast at the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale.

    Louise2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is really beautiful. It has its own little garden with a fire pit, hammock, washing station and cooking shed. The hammock is amazing!!! We watched the sun set from it and spent loads of time reading our books in it (I never knew I was missing the experience of a hammock until this holiday and now I would recommend it to everyone!). The yurt itself has solar panel electricity (you just need USB plugs and it was more than sufficient to provide us with all the LampS, fairy lights and phone charge we needed). The bed is really comfortable and there are 4 hot waters should you need them. We used them for watching the sun set as mentioned. There is a lovely little stove in the yurt which we didn't really need as it was warm enough but we used just because it was nice! The kitchen has two gas rings and all the equipment you need for making food. (Pans, cutlery, mugs, glasses , tin opener etc) It's really lovely in that kitchen, I love how it's been made and love that there was a teapot provided! The toilet is just down a little path and is an eco toilet - really clean and well built. You can also use the camping facilities which include showers and toilets. The showers are so nice! Each shower is in its own room with plenty of space. They were clean and warm. The yurt also had towels to use. There was wood provided for the fires and you could buy more from Magnus if you needed it. It's a really great place to go visit. We spent a day in Kirby Stephen, had a walk to the 9 standards, went to brough castle for ice-cream and swam in the river at stenkrith (beautiful!). We had a meal in the kings head inn in ravenstonedale (less than 5 minute walk from the yurt) . It's a really nice pub with good food. We also went to smardale Gill viaduct for a walk. There's so much to do in this area and we were spoilt for choice! The.campsite is in a really beautiful location, it's easy to find but surrounded by mountains . Magnus is a really great host - he was friendly and accomadating. They obviously really care for the site and it shows in everything they've done. We stayed Monday to Friday and could definitely have stayed longer. It's a lovely place that you could happily just spend time at the yurt, in the garden and not go anywhere! I would recommend bringing blankets from home to use outside by the fire and on the hammock in the evening. We brought a bunch and it made it cosy! We would recommend stAying here! It's been fabulous! Thank-you Magnus.

    Esther2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Words don't do it justice! It's an amazing place to stay. Very private and surrounded by such stunning scenary. Everything has been provided for and more! The yurt was nicer than most houses, equipped with log burner and sun roof for star gazing and cosy nights in. Magnus was a wonderful host, I arrived alone and he made me feel right at home; he was very friendly, replied promptly to any messages prior to arrival and provided us with lots of local info. The details really make this accommodation special and we will definitely be returning. My friends and I had a lovely weekend there and would recommend this place to everyone and anyone! Ideal for those who want to be outdoors but aren't usually into camping :)

    Hannah2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous place to visit with magnificent scenery. The yurt is well equipped. Magnus is an excellent host; he is responding instantly and he is very welcoming. We enjoyed a sunny weekend there and planing to visit visit again soon. Ossama’s family

  • I booked two nights away for my wife and 3 year old son for a Christmas present. We haven’t stayed in a yurt before so I thought this may be a unique idea. Although I looked at the images on the profile, it does not do the site justice. We were surrounded by fields and had some friendly neighbours (sheep) who my son loved talking to. The yurt was very clean and had everything you could want. Magnus was a fantastic host who helped from the second we arrived helping to carry bags to the yurt using the agricultural baggage carriers (wheel barrows). He took us to meet the newly born lambs and provided us with fresh eggs for breakfast. Although temperature dropped below zero we were toasty warm in the yurt as the log burner was roaring all night. The local village has two nice pubs, a playground and a river which was great for catching bullheads. Overall, a great experience. I look forwarded to returning in the near future.

It had everything we needed and our helpful host Victoria was on hand whenever we needed her. The breakfast basket was ideal for stocking up our bags on early starts, and the fact we had our own key and entrance really gave it that 'entire place' appeal that we normally go for. Highly recommended!

  • Victoria’s place is super. Clean, comfy, great location and excellent host. If not familiar with area, loads of info in room. Super touches like biscuits with tea and breakfast items. Was perfect for a long weekend. Great for solo travel or couple. Everything I needed.

  • Lovely little hideaway - a short walk from the busy town centre - and great little bolt hole for Kendal based adventures - Recommended!

Slate built semi detached house on the outskirts of Tebay Village. The house has 3 floors and a flight of steps from the car park to the rear of the house. The guest room had a comfy metal frame sofa bed and is on the top floor. The private bathroom is on the floor below. Guests can have use of the kitchen to eat and make drinks. There is also a local pub a 10 minute walk from the house. Tebay is conveniently located just 2 minutes from the M6 motorway.
The house is in a peaceful village location. set on the main road through Tebay. It is right next to a motorway but that isn't noticeable from inside the house and the main road is very quiet. Also there is a lovely friendly dog called Bella in the house so guests must be dog friendly.
it's a quiet neighbourhood and the neighbours are very friendly.
  • Nice and relaxing break away. Emma and Bella were lovely, thanks for having us!

  • Had a wonderful stay at Emma’s. Her home was lovely and everything was as expected. We helped ourselves to breakfast which was a plus ! Bella (Emma’s gorgeous dog) was so well behaved, would not be an issue for someone who is not too fond of dogs.

Ideally situated in Shap, the ‘Gateway to the Fells and Lakes’, we’re on the famous coast to coast cross country walk. Just off the M6 motorway – we are ideal for breaking up your long journey to and from Scotland or seeing the sites of both north and south lakes. We can offer you private use of clean, comfortable recently modernised rooms on the first floor of our family home. You have sole use of a modern cosy bedroom, ensuite WC/shower room and a private breakfast room (breakfast provided).
We provide all the equipment you will need in the kitchen including table and chairs, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, egg cooker and a small portable oven together with all the all crockery and cutlery you will need for a comfortable stay. We can offer you free Wi-Fi and you have TV in your room. In those warm summer months why not enjoy a glass of wine on our secluded raised decking in the rear garden or sit in the front and watch the world go by. You can borrow our barbecue or we can supply logs for the chimenea for when the weather turns chilly. We have secure storage for bicycles and can easily dry your wet clothes and boots for the next day’s walk. Washing and drying facilities are available if you really need to dry out. You can even have a soak in our large bath if you need one. We offer a great space to sort yourself out for the next day’s adventure. We are dog friendly and our own dog will be sure give you a friendly welcome and will also welcome any well-behaved fellow canines. We can even provide a spare dog bowl or blanket if you have forgotten yours. If you are travelling in a group of four, we do have another guest bedroom (double sofa bed) you could hire for a small extra charge. Provisions for light snacks and packed lunches for your next day’s walking can be provided for a small charge. We are just a short walk away from 3 great local pubs and the award winning Shap Chippy so for larger meals you can either eat in or grab a take away back to the house if you prefer a quiet night in. The local Coop or newsagent is handy for stocking up on those holiday supplies.
Only a short drive from the lovely market towns of Penrith and Kendal, the sights of Ullswater, Haweswater, Windermere, Ambleside, Kirkby Stephen and Keswick are all within easy reach by car. Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall are just a little further afield. There is easy access to the Eden Valley and the Howgills and the newly designated Westmorland Dales National Park. The whole area is home to wonderful walking, cycling and horse riding with lovely market towns and a collection of delightful villages, hills and sights to explore. There are lovely walks and cycle routes from the doorstep. With a lively calendar of farmers’ markets, county shows and seasonal events, the area has something to offer all year round. Amenities in the village include 3 lovely pubs, the Kings Arms, the Greyhound and the Crown (with its new tea room), all serving great home cooked food (with the Kings arms also doing takeaways). The award winning Shap Chippy is a Shap institution you won’t want to miss (with eat in or takeaway). We have the Old Courthouse Exhibition centre (exhibitions of local artists, live music and talks) and in the summer months the UK’s highest open-air heated swimming pool (May – September).

  • Myles' place was lovely, a very interesting house right in the middle of Sedbergh. Myles himself made himself available for our arrival and was very accommodating for two muddy and tired cyclists and even welcomed us with a brew. The breakfast had several options and was more than satisfactory. The room was cosy and heated.

  • Me and my partner came to stay with our miniature dachshund Otto to celebrate our 4year anniversary. The welcome and hospitality provided my Jackie and John was amazing - such a warm and approachable couple! We did not have a long stay so we will need to come back to make the most of their suggestions for walks and days out! The location was perfect - not far from Kendals centre, and we drove to Ambleside and Grasmere on the same day - it was a perfect day out !

    Corinne2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely welcome from both Jackie and John. An amazing set up. We would definitely recommend. Perfect for taking a puppy we were at ease the whole time.

  • A warm comfortable base for 2, with lots of small thoughtful touches. The breakfast, tea, coffee, bread and milk provisions to start us off were great, the home produced eggs were a surprise bonus. Clean and well equipped, plenty of space for the 2 of us. An ideal base we used to explore and enjoy the Lake District in a cold and wet spell of weather, but it did not stop us enjoying our stay.

  • My husband and I have traveled all over the world, and Jackie & John’s place is the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in! Absolutely outstanding hospitality, local recommendations, lovely treats, and a super comfy bed. You will feel as if you’re at home during your stay. Jackie and John are an absolute treasure and I assure you, you will feel the same way once you visit. We cannot wait to go back! Be sure to go to Chester’s for the blackberry scones!

  • Fabulous little place tucked away in a quiet spot in Kendal. Cosy, spotlessly clean with lots of thoughtful touches - fresh bread, milk, fruit, butter, eggs, yoghurt and lots of other basics in situ. Spent Christmas here and were welcomed with mince pies and a Christmas card and some tasteful Christmas decorations. Plenty of parking space. Within walking distance of Kendal town centre (25 minutes), an Asda store and a handy corner shop ( 2 minutes away). Jackie and John are welcoming, friendly and caring hosts and Cooper, their dog, is a joy. Will certainly be returning.

  • Cosy and clean when we arrived, can't fault Pip's Hideaway. Bed felt like we were in a hotel and all the kitchen amenities upstairs were really handy. Bathroom was spotless and the jacuzzi bath & great shower were bliss after long walks, as was the log burner (Tip: clean the inside of the glass with damp newspaper to remove any ash). Jen was really helpful with local recommendations as well as pro-active offering help when Storm Dennis was in full swing. Great location for exploring the Lakes, our only reservation was not booking for a longer stay.

Garden Cottage is nestled peacefully in the heart of the Eden Valley, just 1 mile from the pretty village of Great Asby. Come and relax in the 5-acre grounds and watch the red squirrels, birds and other wildlife... or use as a base to enjoy exploring the nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and North Pennines which are all within a 30 minute drive. This place is perfect for getting away from it all for a few days.
Garden Cottage is one of three cottages in a barn conversion on a former farm. It has views out across farm fields (usually with sheep or cows in residence). Inside is a large bedroom with superking 4 poster bed, a bathroom and open plan living room with full kitchen and dining area. The barn is a typical Cumbrian bank barn, built in to the hillside such that the door enters into the upstairs open plan level, with high beamed ceilings. Internal stairs lead down to the bedroom and bathroom below.
Garden Cottage is in a rural setting, 1 mile from the nearest village with pub (not open every day so check before you set off). The pretty market town of Appleby is just 5 miles away where you can find everything you need for your stay as well as cafes, pubs, restaurants, and takeaways.
  • Everything was perfect. With Kay’s walking books I was able to visit different places every day and to find my way in the Lake District and the Pennines. I have discovered many great walks with my dog. The villages around also worth seeing, like Orton with the chocolate factory. The dog friendly cottage is very nice, easy to find, well located, clean, perfectly equipped. I will definitely return... Thanks again Kay😃

We visited Keswick and Haweswater, about 45mins- 1 hour away... lovely surrounding areas and Appleby is a lovely little village nearby with a few cosy pubs. Cottage is just what you need for a few quiet, relaxing days away. Loved seeing the birds and red squirrels on the feeder outside!
