They may look like ordinary mortals but Sharon & Yarn are actually angels in disguise. Warm, kind, generous - theirs is the original true spirit of Air B&B. We were made to feel at home and part of the family, even invited for dinner (delicious home-smoked fish pie). So incredibly thoughtful - we'd been on the road for a few weeks so spontaneous laundry provided. All this combined with wonderful view, immaculate room and peace perfect peace, it really is heaven on earth. We'll be back....!

Sharon and Yarn welcomed us with beautiful big smiles, showed us to our room and helped us with our oversized luggage. The room was spacious and the en-suite very clean. They allowed us to use their kitchen to cook dinner and were absolutely lovely and kind. The room has fantastic views and is very quiet. They shared with us some of their home grown prunes, delicious!

It was an absolute pleasure to meet Joan and Brian who are a wonderful and warm hearted couple. The apartment is super, equipped with everything you need and has a very nice view. The surrounding garden is just amazing. From the first minute Joan and Brian made us feel home. We would definitely come back!

Wow, what can I say, Brian & Joan have an amazing place on the hills above Opua and are the most charming and friendliest couple you could hope to meet on your travels. The apartment was exactly what we were looking for to act as a base to explore Paihia and the Far North. In fact the photos do not do the property justice, and we were blown away when we first arrived. The wrap around balcony looks out onto Joan's wonderful sprawling garden and you just about see Opua marina (if you stand on tip toes!). The bed was comfortable and the wifi was perfectly adequate, as was the kitchen and appliances. There is a television in the apartment, however there is no tv signal so it's DVDs only, however Brian & Joan have quite a collection and you can borrow them if you like. We didn't spend a great deal of time here, and by the time we got back in the evenings we were worn out from all the activities in Paihia and beyond. If you're looking for somewhere to stay which is slightly off the beaten track (not much, it's only a 5 min drive to Paihia) then this is the perfect location. Opua itself is fairly limited in terms of things to do, however there is a well-stocked general store by the marina which will cater for all of your needs. Brian & Joan were excellent hosts, and thought nothing of inviting us up for a glass of wine in the evening. Having travelled the globe, they shared some wonderful stories about their adventures and we could have stayed chatting for hours if we weren't so tired. All in all, I would say this is one of the great Airbnb properties. You won't be disappointed.

Wow! From the moment we arrived at Brian and Joan's beautiful home we knew we would find it hard to leave. They have created a little piece of paradise and we instantly felt very at home! We were very pleasantly surprised with the space and the privacy! The apartment/space was incredibly well equipped and the outlook from every corner was serene and peaceful. There was a pleasant walk to the yacht club or the start of the bike trail, but a car was useful to get into the local towns and tourist locations. Brian and Joan were very helpful and informative in helping us choose a good balance of tourist highlights. But our favourite day of all was just staying home and enjoying the beautiful environment around the house and reading. We were thrilled to have found such a wonderful place to stay with such beautiful people!

We had a lovely 3 day stay with Brian and Joan and would have liked to have stayed much longer. The apartment is well appointed, comfortable and peaceful with a lush tropical outlook. Two kinder, friendlier hosts you will not meet. As Airbnb stays go this is a cracker and highly recommended. Even better is any time spent with Brian and Joan will leave you with a smile on your face.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful. From the moment we opened the door, we felt relaxed and spoilt by such an awesome choice of stay. The decor is perfect, and the little touches make you feel so welcome.

This is a lovely place to stay, quiet but convenient for Paihia and Waitangi. Very comfortable accommodation and delightful deck to sit out in and relax in the evening.

We loved everything about our stay at Murray's place. Murray and Erma were the most friendly and helpful hosts we have experienced and Murray always replied promptly to our questions. The unit was better than what it had been described. Kitchen was fully equipped with very clean utensils, pots and pans, the barbecue station was new, clean bathroom and cosy bedroom. We felt very well there, definitely would visit again.

Highly recommend! The apartment is at the bottom of their house, with private entrance, bathroom & kitchen, amenities, patio & backyard view. The place is VERY clean, kitchen and bathroom look brand new. Murray and his wife are welcoming and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed before and on arrival. The place is less than 10min drive for Paihia.

We had a fantastic stay at Murray's place. Murray and his wife were very welcoming hosts and were happy to provide us with extras like beach towels for our day out in the Bay of Islands and oil for the BBQ. The place is less than 5 minutes drive from Paihia. It was very clean and comfortable, and it was great to have breakfast, tea, coffee, juice and fruit provided as well as cooking facilities and a BBQ on a private balcony overlooking the garden. Murray gave us lots of privacy but was happy to help whenever we needed anything.

I travelled alone, and stayed for three nights. Lovely place, lovely hosts. Murray and Erma were friendly helpful and caring people, who couldn't do enough for me. Comfortable accomodation in a lovely quiet location, close to the Marina in Opua. We found Kerry and Phil very helpful and welcoming and it was a lovely suprise to find that Kerry had left milk in the fridge along with a tasty breakfast for our first morning. Would definitely recommend this good value accomodation.

Kerry has the most private, spacious accommodation with a large lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen to go along with a quiet local out of the main town. Her welcome package was all we needed to thoroughly enjoy the Bay of Islands including a great dinner recommendation at the Opua Cruising Club.

The house is in a great location, easily accessible and looks good from the outside. We reached late and the host was considerate enough to accommodate. However, the place was dirty, stuffy and unclean. We were the only people staying there that night but the place had not been cleaned for our stay. The rooms smelled and had not been freshened up. We were given bunk beds after we had agreed on having double beds with the host earlier. The washing machine already had a bunch of clothes in. There were used toiletries in the bathroom.

The house of Paul and Cecilia is large and bright but there is still work going on. We were lucky to be only three when there were a dozen beds. We would have liked the house to be a little cleaner. We saw very little of our hosts, Paul was busy and Cecilia absent until the last night.

It's a cosy home with very quiet surrounding closed to the seaside. Cecilia and family stays downstairs and leave the whole of upstairs which is accessible from a separate staircase for the guests. We enjoyed the privacy very much. The kitchen was well-equipped and we enjoyed cooking the food without any problem. Cecilia came up to join us for the chatting session and shared with us the information regarding places of interest in Paihia. We felt very much at home for the whole of the stay in Paihia.

Bach 108 was perfect for our small family and we had such an accommodating host, full of knowledge and advice but also gave us complete privacy. Super professional, beautifully appointed, cosy and flawlessly clean.

Bach 108 is all we expected and more. Jerry was very welcoming and generous (including drinks in the fridge, nibbles much appreciated after a long drive). The property is elevated and has a lovelly view over a valley and bay. It's a 5 min drive to beutiful Paihia with plenty of restaurants and activities. We had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We had a great time. Jerry knows the area and gave us good tips for touring the area. The accommodation is very clean, functional and well equipped. Absolutely perfect for a Bay of Islands to stay for 3 or 4 people. We recommend.

Stop searching for somewhere to stay....this is it. Awesome views and an amazing house. So comfortable and relaxing. The only sound is from the cicadas and the birds. The house is spotless, large and enough room for everyone to have their own space. Everything is catered for and Sandy made sure we were ok from the minute we arrived (actually before) until the minute we left. The level of communication is just right. I have only have one bad comment....I wish we could have stayed longer.

What a fantastic place. A grand view of the forested hills awaits in this peaceful abode a little off the beaten path. The house is roomy and very well equipped for a stay with family or just to get away from it all. There is a beautiful wrap-around deck and big windows that allow you to enjoy the view, full kitchen and a BBQ allow you to cook at home, and there is plenty of lounge space to chill and relax. But the best part was Sandy and Robert being wonderful, warm and helpful hosts. Nothing was too small or large for them to help with. Seriously recommend this place if you're looking to enjoy the Bay of Islands area.

Brian and Vida were both very lovely people and were very welcoming to my boyfriend and me. The room was clean with a wonderful view. It's somewhat separate from the house in the sense that it has its own entrance and is in the back. You can park right near your entrance as well. There's also laundry facilities to use should you need it. There's no kitchen (not that we needed one), but a little tea/coffee nook. Great location at a great price. Only sorry we stayed such a short time. Thank you both!

We had such an amazing stay in the Bay of Islands. Brian and Vida were so helpful and welcoming. After we arrived they looked after our bags while we went for a skydive, gave us a lift to their beautiful place and recommended a place for us to eat. Paihia is a wonderful little town and Vida and Brian's place is the perfect spot to enjoy it. Even though it's listed as a private room, it felt more like I had a small apartment all to myself. It has all the comforts you could want and is a very short drive or medium walk down the hill to the beach. The local parking pass was icing on the cake for me. It truly shows that they've thought of everything. I'm excited to go back to Paihia just to get to stay here again.

When we arrived, the front door was open and there was a blackboard sign outside the door, "Welcome Amanda", this gave me confidence that our hosts were expecting us. Gary popped up from the garden and welcomed us and we had a great chat with him before getting ourselves ready for the wedding we were about to attend. Gary and Paula are just genuine, caring, real people. We took a morning walk down through their beautiful, well planned garden to discover the secluded bay below. The water was so warm! We walked back up a public road to discover some historic landmarks, such as New Zealand's first parliament house(& prison), before returning to pack up the car. We had a chat with Paula on our return, all of this whilst wearing my pj's! What a relaxing and laid back place to stay! I only wish we could have stayed a few more nights. Maybe we will make a special trip to do it all again!

Great place to stay! Well equipped kitchen and great view from the deck. Extremely spacious and comfy as well for the 7 of us during our time there.

We had a fantastic stay at The Deck House and Lara was a very accommodating host, even telling us not to worry about paying for some small accidental damage that was caused during our stay. The bedroom layout was perfect for our group of three couples, with room to spare. We also made use of the provided board games, which were perfect for the rainy days! The spa pool was great and had plenty of room for us to sit and chat away in the evenings. Basic kitchen non-perishables also made cooking a breeze, and the BBQ was great too. Our only complaint would be the terrible water pressure; the shower was like a dribble when compared to the pressure we get at home. I expect this is because of the tank water supply. Perhaps over the rainy season when the tank gets replenished regularly the pressure could be turned up? The need to conserve water in Summer is understandable but such low pressure over Winter seems unnecessary. Even with the temperature right up, I got cold in the shower because of the low volume of water, not to mention the temperature was difficult to adjust, with small changes to the mixer resulting in a change from scalding hot to cold, also because of the low pressure. I would have expected better from otherwise fantastic accommodation. Besides this, we didn't have any issues. The views from the lounge and master room were absolutely stunning and rising early to watch the sunrise is highly recommended!

We loved the deck house! Somehow the pictures didn't even do it justice. There's ample room for hanging out on the deck, with lovely lounge furniture and a nice big table for eating in sunshine. The views are spectacular, and we found ourselves constantly drawn outside. The house was modern, clean, comfortable and quite while still being reasonably close to activities you might want to take in while visiting the bay of islands. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Lara was a great communicator and attentive host. She provided extensive information about the house in a book when we arrived and even checked in with us to be sure we were set during our stay. Can't say enough good about this spot :)

The house is quiet and a nice view. Seven was wide enough and facilities were clean and the interior is great for use at home. The restaurants and shops conveniently located nearby.

We really enjoyed staying at Lara's place. It was very comfortable, very well equipped and the minute we stepped out onto the deck we fell in love with the view. There is a good BBQ to use and the outdoor furniture is really nice. And of course the hot tub is a great place to relax at the end of the day. Lara was incredibly helpful and wonderful to deal with. It's a short drive to Paihia, and a great place from which to explore the stunning Bay of Islands.

Our stay at the Cottage was wonderful. Ruth and John had arranged for a house sitter to make sure the place was ready. The location in regards to the Bay of Islands was excellent. We were a few minutes from town and the deck of the cottage afforded us a great view. John came by to give us some ideas as to where to visit in the area. Overall this was a great stay with some wonderful hosts!

We had a very good welcome from Brenda and Frits have been guests very agreables.Le accommodation is very clean, well equipped to spend a pleasant stay close to historical sites, beautiful hikes and the famous Bay of Island.

Frits and Brenda's place was so awsome. Not only the tidy and cozy accommodation but also their warm welcoming. This couple is so communicative and ready to give help to guest in many ways. It was so lovely memory to stay their place. Definately want to stay again.

Frits and Brenda – and their three dogs! – were excellent hosts. We loved staying in the Shed. Very cozy, and had everything we needed. We used The Shed as a home-base for day trips to the Waipoua Forest, Cape Reinga, Doubtless Bay, and - of course - the nearby towns of Russell and Paihia. Also, if it's a clear night, be sure to step outside to see the stars! Living in the city, we haven't seen the Milky Way and so many stars as are visible from The Shed in a VERY long time!

Brenda and Fritz made us feel very welcome. Brenda had picked us some strawberries from her garden as an arrival present - delicious! The shed was exactly as described. We loved it. It was peaceful and SPOTLESS. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was everything required for us to self cater. As we were there 5 nights, Brenda offered us the use of a washing machine. The area was lovely as well. It was perfect for us introverts. We were away from the crowds and noise but still very close to Pahia. The 3 dogs were awesome. They were very well behaved and only came to see us if we asked them too, which we did on several occasions :).

Frits and Brenda were very welcoming and helpful hosts! They were excellent at providing suggestions for attractions and activities we could do during our stay and the accommodation was well cared for and very comfortable to stay in. As a first time user of the Airbnb service I was delighted with their thoughtfulness. They made it feel like a home away from home :-) Would definitely stay there again!

I had a lovely stay with a friend of mine, Sharon and Yarn made us feel very welcome and they were always keen to drop us of or pick us up from the town. The master bedroom is large, clean and comfortable. They have a beautiful garden as well. If I come to Opua some other time, I will stay with them again.

It was amazing! The room was so tidy and they turned on the heater to warm the room b4 we come! The hosts are so nice!

A great 4 days were spent at Yarn and Sharon's. They made us very welcome and gave lots of friendly advice on things to do and see. The accommodation was excellent.

We booked a room with two beds; on arrival there was only one made up. The owners mistakenly thought we were a couple hence only one bed made up. Due to this misunderstanding we had to wait until 9:30pm until the other bed was provided. This was frustrating because we were both tired and wanted to go to bed early. We let our views be known to the owners. Otherwise we were happy with the room which was very clean and well proportioned.
