Historic Site
“If you’re planning on spending the day in Newport we suggest touring one of the many historic mansions! Most of the historic mansions are on Bellevue Avenue, apart from the few that are on the waterfront. The Breakers Mansion Tour (our family favorite) The Vanderbilt family summer home, The Breakers, is not only the most visited attraction in Newport, but it is also the most popular tourist attraction for the whole state of Rhode Island. The Breakers mansion tour is a self-guided audio tour, and it should take between 60 and 90 minutes. It provides a detailed history of the Breakers as you wander through the elegant rooms on the first and second floors. If you're traveling with kids, we suggest The Breakers 45-minute family audio tour allowing children and parents to "meet" family members and staff, as well as fanciful creatures like the friendly dolphin hiding under the grand staircase, the lions of the Music Room and the dragons in the Dining Room. A great day in Newport could include: The BreakersMansion Tour Cliff Walk Lunch with an Ocean View Shop on Thames Street Visit the Historic Landmarks on Spring Street Dinner on the Harbor ”

“Locally known as First Beach and located at the start of the famed Cliff Walk. Located a mile from Crab Apple Cottage, this is the beach for you during the day. Relax in the sun, sand and surf, plus enjoy the snack bar, Aquarium, & Carousel. Get there early because the parking lots fill to capacity. A daily fee applies. ”

Entertainment
“If you are looking to explore local history, the Newport Mansions have amazing tours. Become a member with a family pass and tour a mansion a day or get through as much as you can in one day. They are rich in history, architecture and views. If you are only able to visit one mansion, my recommendation is The Breakers Mansion. It’s about a 25 minute drive from the home depending on traffic.”
