Places to stay in Neiafu
If you like animals - this is the place. Hang out with three silly dogs, two cosy cats and one big pig (who is the princess of the premises!) Hosted by a Swedish plantbased chef that has lived in Vava'u for 3 years and a canadian fella' that has more than 10 years of experience living in Vava'u - perfect guides for your stay! This cosy and open house is only an 10-minute walk from town & 5 minutes to nearest place to swim! (Vaipua Bridge)
A short walk into town and nicely secluded. Open and cosy house with a lot of love!
Friendly and Green, Vaipua is a really cosy village a short distance from The centre of Neiafu. Close to the boatyard where you can go for a swim and halfway up Mt Talau.
  • Great vibe and great host!

  • Andrea place is uphill. Its a nice house, Adrea, Chris and Paul are working on the place. It has nice details and very lovely dogs, cats and a pig, with piglets. The moment you come in, youre a part of the family. Specialy for travellers alone its a good place. Town center is 20 minutes downhill and for me 30 minutes ophill. 5 Top to use a taxi. Andrea can cook for you and she is a chef. So try one of her meals. For me the bed was a little to hard, like soft beds. When I come back, I love to stay there again.

  • The lovely hostess has three dogs and two cats and some pigs. The place to live is very close to the whale company, I spent a wonderful five days in that hammock. Going back to Fiji will still miss the time there, like old friends.

  • Thank you so much Andrea and Paul! Loved staying with you and your beautiful pets. Such a lovely welcoming home, so easy to walk into town. Loved getting to experience Andrea's amazing cooking. Had such a relaxing time! Malo Andrea and Paul xoxox

Andrea is an incredible chef and I had a chance to try many times here delicious and creative cuisine! Absolutely loved my stay there and will come back again! Highly recommend to anyone who is happy to land in Tongan rhythm! Little piece of paradise

  • This was more than just an airbnb room, it was a welcoming into a beautiful island home and life full of laughter, friendships, amazing food, and peacefulness. Six months prior to my trip, I had originally booked a hotel room elsewhere in Vava'u, but decided to have one last look on AirBNB the week before my arrival, on the off chance that something might have slipped through the cracks that I hadn't seen before. I saw Andrea's place and it instantly caught my eye with it's headline of Animal Lovers Paradise. These three words really encapsulated my stay. There were animals, there was love in the form of friendships formed both with the people living there, and Andrea's many wonderful friends, and it was paradise. I booked immediately and cancelled my other accomodation. I didn't know at the time but it was the best decision I made on my trip to Tonga and Vava'u. If you love animals, you'll fit right in and have your days filled with the attention of the beautiful Kola, Rex and Django (three cheeky dogs that will try to spend all their time with you and welcome you home as one of the pack). There's Kava and Molly the cats, Kava is a beautiful little kitten that won my heart over instantly. I cuddled him at night and found every opportunity I could to share his purrs in the relaxing sway of the balcony hammock, enjoying the fresh mountain breeze while watching the 8 lovely little piglets running and playing below, all under the watchful eye of mama Faina. If you ate pork before, I think you'll find yourself hard pressed to ever considering eating it again after witnessing the beauty of these little bundles of joy. If you love cooking and the joy found in the sharing of food, this is the place for you. Andrea is a true magician in the kitchen, whipping up the most delicious plant based culinary delights you will ever find on the small island paradise of Vava'u. Being vegan myself, I found the in-town options very small, so imagine my delight at sampling some of the sensory rich foods she created. She's all too happy to share her knowledge and experience with you, and make sure to have a peak in her little black book of vegan recipes she has crafted and collected over time! If you're lucky, you'll get to partake in the Sunday Vegan Pot Luck, where you'll not only get the chance to try dozens of amazing food options, but even more so, the chance to meet many of Andreas wonderful adventuring friends. Some, travellers much like myself, passing through briefly, and others, long time expats who have made Vava'u home over many years. They all have wonderful stories to tell, and friendship to offer, you need only open your heart to accept their generosity. It is encounters like these that make you think, how could I have ever booked a hotel room instead of here, as the connections you make to people would have been entirely missed sitting in your hotel room. There is another permanent fixture of the house, full of open friendship and easy going banter. Paul, a resident for 10 years hailing from Canada is a man of honesty and laughter, and will always have the time of day for you, making you feel right at home from day 1. The home is simple, but full of complex characters, humble, yet full of beautiful friends, food and laughter, it is close to town and everything you could need, but a paradise is found within its walls and garden. If you choose to stay here, come with an open mind and heart and you'll leave with your heart full of new found friendships and laughter, and your mind brimming with stories and adventures. Thank you Andrea, Paul, Niko, Kola, Kava, Rex, Django, Molly, Faina and the little piggies. You are all truly wonderful creations.

Welcome our light and friendly family home in Ha'akio village, located only a 10 minute drive from Neiafu. Get a real Tongan experience living in a village with our family of four. We have experience of hosting peace corps and volonteers before and can show you all the good parts of Vava'u and the Tongan Culture.
Close to Keitahi Beach, town and the Airport - but still a secluded village on the eastside of Vava'u. Easy access to town by the familys car or taxi. Enjoy fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables as we will gladly show you around our family farm and take you to the local market in town.
Tonga is considered a 3rd world country and the people are fairly poor. Even tho the locals they don't have a lot of money they have a big heart and will share everything with you.
  • Great place to spend a few days. Fifita, her husband Mana and their children were very welcoming. They went out of their way to take me clams fishing and to the beach. They also fed me three very good meals a day. They even killed a chicken for dinner. Would definitively recommend this place.

    Martine2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was so great stay with Fifita and her family. They whole family treat me like they one of they own family, Fifita cooked me breakfast everyday and different, with fruits and bread with butter. She cooked lunch and dinner were so nice too, very yummy, local style, and very tempting price compare to eat in the restaurant, if u want to try the local family food of Tonga, u definitely want to stay with her. Her daughter is so cute, help me braided my hair like hers. It’s absolutely an amazing experience to stay with Fifita

    Teaya2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fifita is a great host and cook. The family will go far and beyond to make your stay memorable. Highly recommended

    Benjamin2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay with Fifita and her entire very hospitable family! I wanted to experience more than just whale watching in Vava'u and got just what I wanted with 2 days of modern village life, there are pigs and puppies, village feasts but also internet and a life saving mosquito net. It is 20min travels from town so stay here to immerse in local life is the best way to do it :)

    Jian2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying here for 5 days and had a wonderful village life. Mana and Fifita love talking and they are happy to help you. For me it was also good Semisi is there (their son) who is close to my age. Also the kids in the village are super cute. I knew how village life is so didn’t expect a lot but this place is clean and no issues to stay here. Maybe a little bit far from the town but if you rent a car, it wouldn’t be a problem and also I heard it’s easy to do hitchhike in Tonga. I recommend this place to everyone to visit Vavau.

    Kenya2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Becoming part of the family. We had 4 wonderful nights on Vava'u staying at Fifita's place. She and Mana took very good care of us and kept their promise to make us feel as part of the family. We experienced how the "Vava'u Way" is like and tasted a lot of local dishes. The house is not in the main town, so we rented a car which was a good choice as well. I can recommend this place to 100%.

    Markus2018-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had the loveliest time staying at this wonderful homestay, in the sleepy village of Ha’akio. You’re welcomed into the home and your every need is looked after. You feel like part of the family and get a proper taste of what it’s like to be a local in Vava’u. Thank you so much Fifita, Mana and the rest of the family! Also super cute puppies 🐶

    Ieuan2018-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Fifita's house for 1 week, and it was the best choice! They are so lovely and welcoming. They taught me lots about Tonga, offered me Tongan food everyday, let me try the Tongan traditional costume. Staying with them is the best way to have an idea what the life in Tonga is like.

  • Yvette was a great host, prompt with responses and really helpful. The place is an authentic Tongan experience, dogs, pigs, roosters roaming about. The places are a little run down but in line with the price. Thanks Yvette it was a great stop over.

    Stuart2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great value for money and so easy to walk to town or boats from there. Anything you need for the house all you have to do is ask you lovely hostess.

    Christine2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down best budget option to stay in Vava'u during whale swimming season, just a few minute walk down to the docks and to the happening bar/restaurants in town such as Mango Cafe and Taverna Basque. Loved the hilltop breeze and mosquito free stay with hot water showers. Perfect for my week in Vava'u!

    Jian2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place! It’s a very quiet and lovely place. The housekeeper is super friendly and funny, don’t hesitate to have a chat with her! Everything is really clean and comfortable, the view is beautiful and it’s not far away from the city center ! I do recommend this place !!

  • The villas are really big and currently being a little quiet in Vava’u, I have the entire place to myself. Kitchen, full bath, and big comfortable bed. Joanna has been very helpful and is always available. The location is about a 10 min walk to town and the value is the best around. Highly recommend.

Nikki and Paea welcome you. We have a choice of three fales available to book. . This one... a traditional style -Vaimalo Fale, plus two A’ framed units built over the water: Vaimalo Sunrise( 10th in the listing) and Sunset..(23rd)...so scroll down the listings to find these other listings/ pages. This fale sits overlooking a lagoon abundant with coral and fish life. We are at the quiet end of a small village. You will enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, diving exploring the village, share and prepare a local umu meal with us. If you intend to swim with the whales July-Oct, you need to book that many months/ year ahead . Check out Fiji Airways for direct flight from L.A. to Vavau or NZ-Nadi-Vavau
You will stay in -a private traditional Tongan fale -with one double and one single bed with mosquito nets -a small fridge, electric jug and toaster - a small deck to have a breakfast of fresh fruit and a view to Mt Talau. -a separate bathroom with hot water ( the local village water does go off at night but drums of the water are provided) & shared kitchen facilities, living room w/TV, pool table, washing machine. - 10mins drive to town to shop, explore or eat out at restaurants like Mango Restaurant , Bella Vista or Coffee and Tees, and Tropicana cafe - we have vehicles, bikes to rent - Safe quiet stay
We , Nikki and Paea live on the edge of Paea's childhood village. We face the lagoon . The village comprises of 98 residents living a simple life nestled up on the hill behind Local birds punctuate the evening air, herons pop in, and fruit bats hover over trees as night falls. Chickens and roosters don't seem to dominate the night as in Rarotonga!! Local women gather in the day to weave and plait mats and fans. Time spent with them can be arranged. Local students can be asked to take you on a guided tour of their village, explaining life from a young person's perspective.
  • The most wonderful piece of paradise I have ever experienced. The scenery is incredible with the hospitality to match. Nikki & paea were the most welcoming as if we never left home. Felt like spending time with an Aunty & uncle. If you want to experience the real vavau, this is the place to be. Highly recommend Vaimalo Fales. Thank you again to nikki, paea, malo (dog) & kittys for an amazing experience..

    Anania2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to stay in Vava’u. Nikki and Paea have created the most stunning home with fales seperate enough that you can relax in your own space, but close enough so you can interact with them and their guests. They were wonderful hosts, helping us figure out the best way to spend our time on their beautiful island. Further, their village welcomed us with incredible kindness and generosity, making this trip one I’ll remember forever. Thanks so much Nikki and Paea💖💖💖

    Louise2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Nikki and Paia for 5 days during our time in Vava’u and had the most INCREDIBLE experience. I’ve stayed in many Airbnb’s and have never felt so at home. Nikki and Paia are such wonderful people and have such a lovely home directly on the coral reef in the quiet town of Vaimalo. We visited Vava’u to swim with the humpback whales and Paia drove us into town to catch the boat. They even let you rent their car if you want to explore the island on your own (or you can take an island tour with Paia). Staying here also gave us such an authentic view into Tongan culture - something we would have never gotten if we had stayed at a resort or hotel. We helped Paia with his garden that he grows to feed the local community, explored the coral reef, met the local children, and spent time cooking and chatting with Nikki over coffee and fresh fruit. We 10000% recommend staying here if you want a local experience in Vava’u. We are already planning our trip back!

    Jacqueline2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to experience real Tonga come and book this. The 2 fales over the water are beautiful and it has a million dollar view but the hospitality is even better. You feel at home and relaxt. The Tonga & New Zealand match is perfect. When you arrive, Nikki’s husband takes you to a market and supermarket. That is super handy. You can cook or in their kitchen or in your own fale. The special projects, like the books for the childeren of the village or the village garden shows that they are trying to improve the lives of the tongan people around them. You will enjoy the holiday and relaxt mood and learn about Tongan life too.

    Stephanie2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Simply the best host ever. Helpful, selfless, honest, clean and very warm people. Highly recommend this stay. The chalet is right on the water in a beautiful village. I really felt at home here. Thank you

    Christalla2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki and Paia's place is wonderful, and it's hands-down the best option available around Neiafu. Getting to stay right on the water is a special treat. Kayaking there is top notch, and there's nice snorkelling available too. The fale is comfortable. Shower is excellent. Malo, the dog, is adorable! Nikki and Paia are gracious hosts, and we loved our time there. This type of place is exactly the reason that we use airbnb. If we're ever back in Vava'u, well definitely stay here again.

    Jared2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Vaimalo Fale was as pictured, right near the water with spectacular views. We were a little far from town, but we able to rent the car & get rides as needed. We had great interactions with Nikki, Paea, and pup Malo, as well as the other guests. We are so happy to have stayed here, as Paea gave us a tour around the island one day, and we helped cooked a meal with kava and music later in the evening. The Fale had water (filtered rainwater + water from the village well I believe), so it was a big plus that we didn’t have to purchase water. I would recommend bringing earplugs if staying here, as the Fale is very open (screens covered the windows & part of the walls) and it might be difficult to sleep. I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit!

    Angelique2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki and Paea have a fabulous place in Vaimalo. This is a Tongan village so don’t expect a resort and go with the flow. If you want to meet locals and learn about the Tongan way then you won’t be disappointed. We stayed in the basic fale and it was fine. Take earplugs for the 4.30am church bells. Nikki gave us papaya and bananas for breakfast and we ate out in town most evenings rather than self cater. We found hitching into town and back with locals very easy, safe and a fantastic way to meet wonderful friendly Tongans. Nikki and Paea are great, very helpful and accommodating and it felt like we were staying with friends after a few days. The kayaking to Swallows Cave was a highlight as was the umu Paea cooked one night. Great to pick the food from his land in the morning. I could go on and on about what an authentic experience this is. Not flash, not a resort but genuine, clean, fun and welcoming. Thank you both so much x

An ocean front home that is a 5 minute walk to downtown Neiafu and sites on a beautifully landscaped hill with stairs down to the ocean. There are 3 bedrooms each with a private on-suite. All rooms have a private entrance and a deck with magnificent ocean views of Neiafu harbor. There is awesome snorkeling off our dock and If you have booked a whale or diving tour, you can get picked-up and dropped off from the wharf. We would love for you to come stay in one of our rooms.
The home is secluded and very quiet. It is a short walk to main street shops and restaurants.
  • Great location and amazing views! Room was neat, clean and comfy. Katherine and Ana were hosting me during my stay and offered assistance where needed and were just overall lovely. The place is a 5–10 minute walk into town with the loveliest views.

    Karla2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for the best balance of location, local experience, and wonderful accommodations - look no further than this place. The house is less than a 5 minute walk to town, whale boats pick you up right at the dock at the Airbnb, and the family that owns this home and hosts is so incredibly wonderful. Also, great value for the price. Have never slept better. Ana, Polama, and Katherine also took me to their local village on my last night in town to have the full Tongan experience. I was initially tempted to stay at one of the higher end resorts in Vava’u, but so glad I didn’t as the location was far from the harbor and town. Will definitely be back - thank you Shelly, Sal, Polama, Ana, and Katherine!

    Rebecca2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Shelly, Sal and Katherine were wonderful hosts. My friends and I we were so impressed with the beautiful location (even better that the photos!), the generous sized rooms, the shared facilities and most of all the generous hospitality of our hosts. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly, and made us feel very well looked after. This is the only place I would stay if I went back to Vava'u.

    Tracey2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Super location on the island of vava'u near the village (shops, restaurants, ...) with a well-equipped house that has a beautiful view (magic) on the bay, with a nice interior decoration. Shelly and Sal were on the move but Cameron and Lisa booked us a great welcome and were available to us.

    Nada2019-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed a week at the house and enjoyed the place. You can walk to the town getting a good work out up the hills. The rooms are very spacious and they provided super soft towels! Lisa and Cameron who help manage the space were very kind and friendly. Cameron does island tours that I’d highly recommend. Sal even helped us book our diving and whale tours with the local shops he knows well. Overall it was a great experience and I’d definitely stay there again on my next visit.

  • The location is great, a short walk to town, and super quiet. The views and relaxing atmosphere are perfect for unwinding after getting out and about. We had a snorkel out the front of the property and were very pleasantly surprised, with eels, pipefish, hermit crabs and much much more. This is a great place to stay while in Vava'u.

    Chris2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The highlight was the perfect location and hospitality. Stunning view from the balcony perfect for happy hour drinks, a 5 minute walk into town and we were able to swim in the Harbour. Malika and Sal were very welcoming, always checking up on how we are going and if we needed any local advice or a lift anywhere. We would definitely recommend staying here!

    Kelly2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Shelly & Sal's house was a great place to base ourselves for the first few days in Vava'u. Excellent location with only a 5 minute walk to the shops, restraunts and tour operators of Neiafu. Shelly and Sal were out of the country during our stay but arranged a friend to pick us up from the airport who was super friendly and gave us plenty of great tips and info on Vava'u and the Tongan culture. Highly recommended!

  • Loved my stay at Pua Hotel. Jordan, son of the owner was so accommodating on the first day and the owner's young daughter loaned me her sim card. Which was a live saver for my work as I landed after shop times and I work non stop. Jordan drove me around to the market and shops to see I had what I needed after he picked me up from the airport. He was awesome. I found all the female staff incredibly professional, helpful and attentive. Anything I needed help with they were there. On a Sunday, Julie made sure that I got a lift with her friend to "Ene Io" restaurant / beach , when I stopped working. Then she worried about me to make sure I got home safe. Amy, brilliant manager, made sure I had my laundry when I ran out of clothes. And found anything I needed. I would have stayed more , but I had a budgetary needs for a kitchen. Eating out every night is too much for my purse for 3 weeks straight. It was awesome to hear incredible choirs from the room and children playing in the water. Sunsets are idillic from the room. I would love to return :) Chloé

For those who prefer their privacy. Suitable for one single traveller (1 single king sized bed) OR two singles (2 single king sized beds) OR a couple (king sized bed)
On a main island road less than a 2 minute walk into town
  • I can't recommend 'Elitisi's place enough! Despite being away due to a family emergency, she was easily contactable and had her cousin take care of me instead – both things I appreciated as a solo traveller. The Workman's Hut was tucked away, well-equipped and beautifully decorated. It was as close to town as you'd want to be, just a two minute walk. I loved my stay in Vava'u and only wish I had longer!

    Emily2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room was very clean and well kept very close to the wharf. Elitisi responded to my messages rapidly and conveniently

    Martha2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great space to stay for a solo traveler! The space is small but has everything you need, was super clean and is so well located for the main town, everything is a short walk. Elitisi was a fabulous host, went above and beyond to help me get situated and make sure my stay was great. Thank you!

  • Place is small but very cozy. Location is great. The host is quick to respond. Walking distance to everything. Very clean. Safe neighborhood

    Walter2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect for anyone on a budget looking for somewhere in the town. Elitisi was an extremely nice and gracious host. She gave me a tour of the town when I arrived with lots of helpful local knowledge and also purchased a portable wifi for the room which turns out is one of the best ways to access the internet as I know a lot of people in the hotels didn't have much luck. The location is great, less than 5 minutes to walk down to the harbour and easy access to lots of shops and restaurants.

    Tom2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Tisi was an amazing and very friendly host! She was incredibly kind and thoughtful throughout our stay and gave us excellent recommendations of things to do. We were very last minute but despite this she managed to arrange an incredible day swimming with the whales! Her house is in the perfect location and is in walking distance of the local cafes and restaurants. Would love to come back and stay in her little paradise!

We would love for you to come stay in one of our rooms
The home is secluded and very quiet. It is a short walk to main street shops and restaurants.
  • Great location from town- no more than a 10 min walk. Beach cottage vibes with spacious rooms and a great common space.

    Michaela2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sal (Shelly was oot) was an amazing host. He went above and beyond his duties to make sure my friends and I had a great stay. They did things that were not part of the house that just added to the amazing stay. The house is still under construction but we were not bothered by it at all!! The place where you stay and need is finished and super cozy. The dock is lovely and the house deck has amazing views. It’s a close walk into town and the docks for catching the whale boats. I would definitely recommend this house to stay.

  • Gorgeously located with a great deck and an unbelievable view. 10-20 min walk to the city. Great big kitchen with everything you need - if you want to cook. Hosts are incredibly friendly and service-minded. Close to the city and yet secluded. Highly recommended!!

  • We reserved Shelly and Sal's place the very day we were looking for somewhere to stay and heard back right away even though they were in the states. Within the hour, Sa'ane had a room ready for us. The view is beautiful and the room was very spacious and clean. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you Shelly and Sal!

    Vava'u, Vava'u, Tonga

Malo and welcome. We have three fales available ...Vaimalo traditional fale, Vaimalo Sunrise and Vaimalo Sunset over the Water. Sunrise Fale is built over the water tucked into the limestone with stunning views of both sunrise and sunset from the deck. The Fale is self contained and catches the cooling sea breeze. At high tide roll off the deck into the water. We are at the end of a small local village, right on the water. A perfect place to just immerse yourself in the beauty of Vava'u waters. Join us. You may like to look at Sunset over the Water which is bigger... If you intend to swim with the whales July-Oct, you need to book that months/ year ahead .
We have built this Fale over the lapping Lagoon water and at low tide you step down and walk out into the Lagoon. Fish from the deck or just watch the fish under a light at night. Enjoy sunsets and sunrises as you relax on one of two deck spaces. The fish and coral life outside our place is abundant so snorkel-and kayak during the day. The Fale is spacious and self contained: two beds - a queen and single with mosquito nets, a mini kitchen to cook and then eat out on the deck. Ensuite bathroom with gas hot water.. Washing line. There is an outside shower also. A shared laundry is up at our house.
Vaimalo meaning 'Thank You Water' is a small village of 95 people nestled into a hill. We are located at the end down a lane by the water. It is quiet and peaceful just the lapping of the water around your fale and the cooling breeze across the water.
  • It was amazing to be able to just jump in the water and snorkel on some beautiful, healthy coral reefs right outside our place. The owners were not there, but their housesitters took great care of us giving us supplies for breakfast and making us a nice dinner.

    Jeanne2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki and Paea’s place is just as beautiful as in the pictures, lovely with stunning views overlooking the lagoon. They make you feel at home and have local tours that help you learn more about the community. They are gorgeous human beings and do so much for the community! Hope to come back to Vava’u and stay at their Fales again ♥️

    Nandini2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Truly felt like home here. Nikki and Paea welcome you with open arms into their slice of paradise. Beautiful fale over the water in a secluded village with a community feel. I adore this space so much for so many reasons. Highly recommend staying in this special place

    Christalla2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very rich experience at a decent price. Far more personal and cultural experience than found at a much more expensive and isolated resort. A good insight into what Tonga is like beyond the whale swims.

    Brandon2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Heaven on Earth exists and FYI it's in Vaimalo in the fales managed by Nikki and Paea. The place is so pretty and relaxing, Nikki and Paea are incredibly friendly and warm hosts. Renting their car was great to explore the island, same for the kayak ! It's probably the best Airbnb experience I ever had, and I truly recommend it !

    Marie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and quiet place, close to/above the water. You can snorkel, swim and Kayak. Lots of beautiful colored fishes. Nikki and Paea are great hosts. We enjoyed the kava nights and the meals together. And also the island tour with Paea. 15 car-minutes from town. If you want to experience the real island life, go to Vaimalo! Highly recommended. 😁

    Marjo2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED this place - with the Sunset and Sunrise Fales being the top choices in that order, I think. Just like the pictures, the ocean is your front yard. Nikki and Paia went above and beyond as hosts - prompt communication and once you are there checking in with you daily to see what you need, sharing their fruit, and really opening their home and heart to you. We were there on a weekend and they had invited all the guests in their fales to their Sunday BBQ. We felt really included. In terms of Vava'u, I think their place is the best for the money. It is a bit out of town, but they have their own cars that they rent at a very reasonable price for 1/2 day so you can go into town for dinner, or a full day so you can come and go. They also provide transport to town for whale swimming at a very reasonable price. If we went back I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!

    Mariana2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki’s and Paya‘s place in Vaimalo is a little paradise and you can really slow down. You find yourself next to the water were you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. A kitchen were you can prepare your food. Nikki will show you on the way back from the airport all places were you can buy what you need. They are very helpful in all ways and a highlight was the umu (traditional food) we prepared together. A boattour with Gracia Tour recommended by Nikki was amazing! There is no wifi out there so buy a simcard for your phone from CCT for one week, dicitel is more expensive. I can recommended this place and hope to come back to Vava’u!

We locate in the heart of Pangaimotu Vava'u surrounded by friendly people and next door to a cafe and a shopping center, easing guest needs. Only takes 5 minutes ride to town. Also please kindly note we are new to airbnb and would be humble enough to take your feedback. Hence, Please note price for renting is per room. However, anything is possible, all we need is negotiating. Our guest needs is our priority! Welcome to Lady Maria's Place.
We are surrounded by a Cafeteria owned by an Australian, a dress boutique also next to the great beach of Pangaimotu Vava'u. You can view the whole village from the house, still remain breeze during hot days in Vava'u
The neighborhood are very friendly, and the property is really safe for use. Everyone is family.
  • Maria was so lovely, easy to communicate with, and very accommodating. The place was just the homely experience that we were after and having the church across the road gave us an insight into the daily Tongan life. Having a store next door was really convenient and rides into town are affordable and easy to arrange with Maria.

  • Elitisi's place was a perfect home base for our stay on Vava'u. It was super convenient being just a five-minute walk to "downtown" and the harbor where our whale swim boat departed. The little house was spacious, well decorated, and stocked with the essentials. But most importantly, Elitisi was the ultimate hostess. She provided local tips, tour suggestions, a pocket wifi for use during our stay, and even drove us around town to give us an orientation upon our arrival and to point out several good eateries. We cannot say enough good things about our stay. Thank you for everything, Tisi!

    Patrick & Courtney2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, a wonderful host; knowledgeable, fast communication and really helpful.

    Livelifelighter2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Super nice place to stay right in the centre of town, Saturday markets were close, we bought our own food and was able to cooked in the kitchen, it had everything we needed. Tisi gave great advice on where to go around the island. Nice garden, beautiful vibes. Would recommend.

    Elise2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Tisi is such a great host. Quick to respond, very accommodating too. The house is clean, comfortable and has everything you need for a week or so. Walking distance from everything in down and the wharfs. Being on the main road, you might want to consider noise if you have young children who need a quiet space to sleep early but it does get quiet by midnight. Vavau is not like Tongatapu where you hear cars blasting music at odd hours in the night.

    Helena2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated, great amenities, exceptionally clean and located on a gated lot in the middle of town. Easy walking distance to everything, makes it possible to function without a car. Great kitchen, very well-supplied and easy access to markets. The cottage is beautiful!

    Amber2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for accommodation in Vava'u, this is the perfect place! Elitsi and The Cottage exceeded all of my partner and I's expectations. Our host took such great care of us and made us feel like family. All of her hot tips and recommendations of Vava'u were so valuable! If we had any questions or support, Elitsi was always there to help. The Cottage is located very close to the town where all of the shops and restaurants are (1-2min walk). Also very close to the wharf where Humpback Whale trips depart from. The Cottage was very clean, stylish, homely and private. It had everything we needed and more! The Cottage is spacious and had all of the appliances/amenities we could need. We also felt very safe. We would recommend Elitsi and The Cottage to any visitor going to Vava'u!

  • Fantastic situation overlooking the water on a stunningly beautiful island. Julie Ann and Philip couldn't have done more to help us, sometimes literally going the extra mile.

    Zoe2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A brilliant place to stay with excellent hosts. If you are looking for a place to stay in Vava’u this is the one!

    Andy2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Phillip and Julie-Ann's place has a great view over the water and is in a quiet part of the island. They're very friendly and super accommodating - they also know a good deal about what's going on around the island and have some great tips. Plus they have hot water! While I personally did not rent a car, I would probably recommend that you do get one if you're going to stay here as it's a longish walk to town and the dogs on the road are very aggressive. (Seriously, bring a stick/rock if you're walking around alone.)

    Kevin2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Philip's. They have a beautiful terrace and are very attentive thanks to them !!!

    Caroline2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve been 4 nights at Julie-Ann and Philip’s place and we wished we stayed longer! The place looks exactly like in the pictures and was as described, not far from the town centre and the harbour, with a wonderful view on the bay! Julie-Ann and Philip are truly Superhosts! We’ve spent great evenings with them, they are super nice and funny and we had lot of fun together! They helped us with tips about Vava’u, helped us organise our stay there and found us two last-minute spots on the best Whale swimming company of the island, allowing us to have one of the most amazing experiences of our life! We can’t thank them enough for the great time in Vava’u! Definitely the place to stay if you pass by this little nice Tongan island!

    Vincenzo2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Julie-Ann and Philip are extremely welcoming and we had a fabulous stay with them. The room is prefect with a large bed and separate bathroom. We definitely had everything we needed. With their generous hospitality and the amazing view from the outdoors, we loved every minute of our stay. Thank you!

    Caroline2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Phil and Julie-Ann’s place is great! Super beautiful view through the trees to the harbour, we stayed in the twin. It was clean and the shower has hot water. Phil is a great host (did not meet Julie-Ann as she was away), very friendly, chilled and up for a good chat. I would definitely recommend this place for a few nights stay. You need to get a taxi to the town and back, but it’s cheap. Also liked Biggles the cat.

  • Kurt and Lynn are the best hosts I've ever had on Airbnb. Vava 'u is the purest island I've ever been to.

    Jie2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in Fale Taha at Lucky’s, as a solo traveler for four nights. The room itself, shower, toilet and outdoor kitchen were all kept very clean. I was very comfortable there. It is gated and the beach is private. Took the kayak out a couple times and even bought fish from Kurt and Lynn for a couple dinners/lunches. Great value and I felt very safe and at peace during my stay. There’s a nice breeze and you are steps from the beach. Malo Aupito

    Angela2019-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely stay and Lynn as host is so very welcoming as host! The cottage is at a beautiful spot with a private beach, from which you can kayak easily to other islands! The accommodation has everything you need, like a kitchen equipped with all the basic ingredients (oil, herbs etc), fridge, bbq! We bought fresh fish every night from Lynn and that made it very easy to have a nice meal in the evening. Overall great place and very relaxing stay, on of our favourite places we have visited ever!

    Pien2018-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • If your are looking for a good and cheap accommodation in a beautiful area you should book with Kurt and Lynn. The room was clean and the „private beach“ has an amazing view-exactly like on the pics. You have to take the free kayaks to explore the islands and the reefs in the area. We can also recommend to buy some fish from Kurt-it’s delicious! We can highly recommend to stay with Lynn and Kurt

    Frank2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Kurt and Lynn were very sweet and made it easy to go on our whales swimming adventures. Would definitely come back!

  • Nikki's place is so beautiful and relaxing. Lovely location right on the water and Nikki and Paea really looked after our needs including daily trips to take us in to town for whale swimming and picking us up after. They made us feel so welcome. Highly recommended.

    Ross2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki and Paea have become family. We loved their sanctuary they shared with us. some of the best snorkeling is right outside the hut we stayed in overlooking the bay and Mount Talu. We LOVE Viamalo Village, all the locals welcomed us. We CANT wait to come back!!!

    Caitlin2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The best accommodation we had during our 4 weeks trip through Tonga! We stayed at the lovely “Sunset Fale” for 9 nights and really enjoyed the little paradise Nikki and Paea built up at this beautiful lagoon. Both are such courteous and friendly hosts we’d love to visit again. We highly recommend this place to stay especially for snorkelers, kayaking friends or relaxed daydreamers! Thank you Nikki an Paea!

    Jonathan2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Nikki and Paea. You really helped create an unforgettable experience for our father-daughter trip. The Sunset Fale was fantastic, it was clean and spacious had everything we needed. The view from the deck out over the lagoon and across to Mt Talau is etched in my memory for ever. Kayaking to town, seeing the big sea turtle and other wildlife was a highlight, as was the traditional Tongan feast you prepared for us! Your warmth and hospitality really made it a five-star experience. Will be recommending Vaimalo Fales to all friends and family and we look forward to returning!

    Lora2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such an authentic visit to Vavau thanks to Nikki and Paea who were excellent hosts, warm and friendly. Nikki met us at the airport. They organised an island tour, umu, kava session and garden visit for us. We enjoyed local village life, with a visit to local weavers and Sunday church service. The location is idyllic, fale located over the water with 180 degree views from deck. Snorkelling right on your doorstep. We had such a relaxing stay there, wish it could have been longer.

    Marion2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Nikki’s fales are just lovely and she is so kind! Loved our stay here!

    Annie2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy yet spacious fales in an incredible location in a local village called Vaimalo, Vavau, right on the water front. We could literally walk into the water from our balcony. We felt warmly welcoming by Nikki and Paea and they helped us to arrange additional tours, even getting a tour around the island from Paea himself. Although it is around 30 mins drive into town, the hosts were happy to give us lifts into town for a low cost. Would highly recommend to anyone considering spending time here.

  • This is a really special place, it is breathtakingly beautiful and Kurt & Lynn are fantastic hosts! If you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax and really get onto Tongan time this will tick all the boxes. It is about 25mins from town so a car is useful or you can use a taxi. We used the driver recommended to us by Kurt & Lynn (James) who was a really reliable and friendly guy. In summary we loved our stay at Lucky’s beach house and we were really sad to leave this truly magical place.

    Tara2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Kurt family is very friendly and has given us a lot of help. The kurt residence in the house is not far away. If there is any problem, you can go straight and knock on the door, but the privacy of the room is very good. A single house, whale watching kurt will drive, completely free. You can also buy Kurt fish for BBQ and a stove for baking. The private beach at the door is also very good, in short, very very good accommodation experience!

    Song2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a paradise on earth! We truly appreciated our stay! It's far from town, so you have to plan ahead to get some food and everything, but it's amazing. Lynn really made us feel safe when we arrived. Thank you so much!!

    Catherine2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Lucky Beach. Kurt and Lynn are wonderful people and we really enjoyed our stay with them. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, activities planned and transportation arranged. There is also snorkeling right off the beach and Kayaks available for guests to use. We had a great stay overall.

    Jackie2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kurt & Lynn’s place was amazing. I could spend 2 weeks here if I could. The space is tucked to the side of the village, and is shared between a few other tiny houses with a large grassy area and places to sit/lounge, common area with lots of good books and a few games. This space is essentially a mini resort without a pool, but who needs a pool when the ocean is steps away. We snorkeled almost everyday (we brought our own, i’m not sure if there was some we could have used), we kayaked as well - kayaks available for guests to use without a fee was a big plus! The little house was very clean, comfy, and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the table outside on the porch and sat there almost every meal. I loved staying here and believe that this is a place you MUST stay if visiting Vava’u. *the space is a little far from the main town, so we brought 4 days worth of food with us as we didn’t want to take a taxi into town during our stay. We drank the rainwater so we didn’t bother bringing that.

    Angelique2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A cute very clean amazing accomodation far away from all the loud rooster crow in the main village.

    Laura2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • fantastic off the grid..snorkel ..dive..whales ...base camp..

    Steve2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the greenhouse bungalow and it exceeded our expectations. Very cozy space sitting right in the middle of paradise with the beautiful ocean right at your footsteps. Enjoyed having coffee on the patio every morning while overlooking the beautiful ocean. Fully equipped kitchenette was very convenient to have when we didn’t want to drive into town to eat out. Both beds in the loft and main floor were comfortable and hearing the ocean waves crash at night made it even more relaxing. Hot water was a plus when using the showers. Kurt was kind enough to arrange a taxi to pick us up from the airport and stop into town to pick up provisions before checking in. Felt very safe while at Kurt’s and is secured by a large main gate.

A quiet and private studio with lovely view of the harbour from your bed. This house has been uniquely built out of white coral rock . Also pristine swimming and snorkelling all day just steps away . Studio is fully equipped for cooking. A short taxi ride will get you to the restaurants and coffee shops in town. This part of town is where many of the expats live and run their whale watching and fishing charters. So organising a day out on the water is easy.
    Private and waterfront
Toula is a genuine South Pacific village. It is safe and friendly.
  • Janice’s place was absolutely wonderful! We only wish we had stayed longer. The house: The house sits on a bit of a hill and overlooks Koko bay which is just beautiful. The house was sparkling clean when we arrived with plenty of bath towels and all the cooking utensils one would need in the kitchen. There is also great snorkeling right off the dock which was so much fun! Make sure to bring your own beach towels and be aware that the steps into the water can be a bit slippery so be cautious getting in. It is also nice that the house is tucked in a bay so you are protected from the wind. Getting around: Janice arranged for a driver to pick us up (Mele) when we arrived who was just wonderful. Mele was waiting for us at the airport, took us to an ATM in town to pull out local currency and then onto the store to pick up grocery’s before heading to the house. Mele gave us her phone number so we could call her anytime for a ride which was wonderful and we used frequently. She was always on time and always happy to give us a ride anytime we needed one. The house is about a 30 min walk from town (5-10 min car ride). It costs about 10 TOP each way. If you want to do your own exploring I would highly recommend a rental car which Janice or Julie, the house manager can help you arrange. We would walk into town during the day but would typically get a ride home in the evening as it’s not recommended to walk at night. It’s perfectly save but their isn’t a designated walking area so it can be a bit dangerous in the dark. There is also a great place called Harbor View hotel just up the road. While they mainly focus on their group staying with them at that time, they do serve a great breakfast and lunch from 7:30 am - 2:00 pm. The owner, Bill and staff were incredibly friendly and were happy to open up their restaurant to us which was so nice. We had such a great time and the pancakes were delicious! I cannot recommend this place enough. Like I said, we only wish we had stayed longer.

    Anna2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely Chalet with good though basic facilities. Location on the shoreline particularly fab; wonderful for swimming in the bay. The distance into Neiafu for restaurants and shopping requires a car or the use of taxis.

  • Love this place so much. Own private jetty with rope swing, an easy 3km walk to town or the lovely Mele is more than happy to drop you in/pick you up. such a cute space, all you need as a solo traveler or as a couple. will definitly be back next year. Thank you!

    Becky2018-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This studio is beautiful as well as the view! Has everything you could need and was very clean and comfortable. The location is about a 40min walk into the main town but it was perfect for me. All communication was quick and easy. Would definitely stay again!

    Kaitlyn2018-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely studio facing the bay. Janice and Mele are always available to assist with any queries. Great place to stay at!

    Thomas2018-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • This studio is a hidden gem. Fully self contained with shower, toilet, fans a fridge and small kitchenette. As a bonus there are spectacular views over koko bay. The studio is about 3 kilometeres from the main town but it is easy enough to organise a taxi to take you wherever you need to go. It is very private and quiet and a great alternative to a hotel. The owner, Janice, sometimes lives in Australia but still communicates very well. There is also a local manager available to assist if required. Highly recommended if you like to be self sufficient and avoid the resorts/hotels.

    Brett2018-09-11T00:00:00Z

  • Shelly was very responsive with the initial booking. They even helped with arranging airport pick up and drop off. Took us into town and showed us the locations of markets, atm, grocery stores and restaurants, pier and port area where most excursions happen. By the way its all within 5 minutes walking from their property. During our stay Sal arranged several nice local dinners at the property for us and his other guest. The pictures shown are accurate. The views, breeze and hospitality were outstanding. Snorkeling off their new deck is great. We had a great week there. Thanks Shelly, Sal and staff

This is the place for you. Semisi is the best local guide you could hope for - running you around, sorting out hire cars, helping you change flights. The man is a champion. Can’t thank him enough
