Ty'n Cellar Farm Self Catering Cottages are Grade 4 listed by Visit Wales, and the whole farm is Grade 2 listed by Cadw. We have 5 cottages that can sleep between 2 and 8 people and 2 apartments that sleep up to 4 people. . The two apartments are accessed via the original external stone staircases. Although the cottages are self catering, guests are more than welcome to pay for a full Welsh breakfast in the Granary Kitchen. On the farm we have chickens, ducks, geese and rare breed Soay sheep.
The Dairy, a Grade II listed building was part of the old milking parlour, and has been converted and refurbished into a delightful self catering cottage that will sleep up to 3 people. A rear door leads on to the patio area with views of the Margam Hills. Upstairs there is a bedroom with a Superking bed that can be converted into two single beds, and an en suite shower room. The wooden ceiling beams are mostly original but where they have been changed the timber has been used from The Old Granary floor joists. The cottage has reclaimed oak floors throughout and these were recovered from an old private school in Cardiff. The Dairy is ideal for couples with a child who want to explore the beaches and country side around the Swansea Bay and Gower area. Tyn Cellar Farm was originally part of the Margam Estate and Margam Park with its historical buildings, Abbey, country walks and wild deer is only five minutes away.
We are mid way between J37 and J38 of the M4 and are surrounded by farm land. The holiday cottages date back to the 13th century and the whole site is Grade 2 listed and was once part of Margam Abbey. • Beautiful cottage and surroundings. Incredibly friendly and helpful host that makes you feel really at home. The cottage has everything you need for a great visit and had even been decorated for the Christmas period.

  • We had a great stay at Phil’s place. Location is peaceful and remote but with great access to the M4 to explore the area - great spot to head out to the Gower and Pembrokeshire as well as to Swansea and Cardiff. The Dairy was comfortable and spacious with a large bed, powerful shower and good kitchen facilities. Phil ensured the thoughtful touches such as bread, milk and welsh cakes were there for us on arrival and offered to get us a bbq out given the unseasonally warm weather. Phil was also on hand with tips and local knowledge. Thanks for a great stay, would definitely return!

  • A lovely little cottage in a perfect place and accessible to everything in the surrounding area. Clean, neat, spacious, quiet, homely and a lovely place for us all to stay for a few nights. Wouldn’t hesitate in booking this nice place again when the time arises. One to keep note of.... :)

  • We loved our stay at Victoria's, the photos really don't do the place justice. Our group composed of my partner and my one-year-old son, and we enjoyed three nights at the property. It's in a very convenient location, just off the M4, but in a nice quiet village location, with a couple of corner shops, takeaways and a park within walking distance. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if ever we were in the area!

    Jessica2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Victoria was a great host and the cottage is cosy and clean. Had a lovely stay would definitely recommend

  • As ever, another wonderful stay at Victoria’s! She is an amazing host, offering a warm and welcoming cottage, and can’t do enough for her guests! Lovely little personal touches really make this a cut above the rest and make you feel at home. It is beautifully decorated and offers everything you could want, including tips on local things to do and Victoria is always on hand to answer any questions. Thank you so much for everything Victoria! We recommend this place to anyone looking to feel welcome, relaxed and well cared for!

  • We were a group of four, but there was beds for six (twins, double and bunks). This is a nice place and a good base for visits to Porthcawl and/or Margam Park. We visited in November but the house was nice and warm. Lots of parking available.

  • The lodge is a lovely place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights while visiting family. Philip was very helpful and met ya upon our arrival. There was tea, coffee and milk waiting for us which was a lovely touch. The lodge was very clean. Beds were comfortable. Heating worked well so we didn’t feel the cold outside. There are ducks and geese on the farm which the kids loved to have a look at. I would definitely recommend staying here and we will stay there again

  • My husband had to come to Pyle for work and Gerry’s house was just what we needed. It was close to bus transportation and shopping. Gerry herself was wonderful to work with through the whole process. She even found ways to make our small kids feel welcome in the house. If we need to come back to Pyle we will try to stay here again.

  • An incredible cottage to get away from it all, a good location to get to a few shops and attractions but the best bit is getting your supplies and looking at the views out of the window with the log burner set.

  • Great experience of staying at Lorna’s place. Lovely personal touch when we arrived: welshcakes and personal notes. The cottage is very cozy and lovely. Even though it was raining cats and dogs with high winds during our stay due to stormDennis, the place is warm and we enjoyed snuggling in front of the fireplaces. It was peaceful stay with serene surroundings due to the cottage’s location but getting food provisions and supermarkets are only minutes away by car. I can recommend the place for its great experience and the warm stay at the lovely cottage. Thank you Lorna and John.

  • An excellent stay! Thoughtful touches throughout the property (complimentary bottle of wine, welsh cakes and firewood on arrival). Welcome pack was detailed and clear Lorna was available for any questions to ensure an enjoyable stay. Very fast communication from Lorna and she kindly let us check in earlier and check out later. I shall definitely be returning with my friends. Thank you!

  • Cosy, comfortable, well equipped and a peaceful cottage with glorious views over Port Talbot from a quiet country retreat. The cottage location is the great for accessing supermarkets/ the town for anything you may need whilst also being private should you want to be alone. Thanks Lorna for letting us stay in your lovely cottage which made our 2020 New Years celebrations unforgettable.

    Sophie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at Lorna's cottage retreat, a real home away from home with beautiful Christmas touches, thanks for having us. Wonderful location, highly recommend going for a drive & enjoying the natural views then get back to the cottage, light the fire and watch the city lights & stars

  • The place was great. We had a lovely stay in the cottage. Very warm and cosy.

    Nick2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We chose the cottage as a base for our South Wales adventures and we were not disappointed. Great communication with our host and the welcoming touches, including having the burners lit for our arrival, were thoughtful and appreciated. The weather wasn’t always kind to us so having such a comfortable, warm and inviting space to recharge was all we hoped for. The remote location gives the great views when the cloud lifts and yet the town with supermarkets are only a few minutes drive away.

  • Absolutely wonderful place in the most idyllic location. Quite and peaceful and an overall wonderful stay. Would highly recommend!

This is one of the oldest buildings on the farm and one of the prettiest with its red stone work thought to date back to the 1400’s . This cottage consists of 2 bed rooms both on the ground floor with a superking/twin bed and bunk bed in each bedroom. Both bedrooms are ensuite. This is suitable for families or 4 single persons in each. The ground floor also has a large kitchen diner and spacious lounge with access to a large patio area with views over the Margam hills. There is underfloor heating in the stables which is supplied by our Biomass boiler. This stable block was used to house the farms shire horses (the tractors of their day) in individual stables, but during the renovation it was found that the stables were so badly riddled with wood worm most of the existing timber had to be disposed of. We have retained the original oak stable entrances and these are on the wall in the lounge area. On one of the stable posts you will notice that there is a plaque that is from the Glamorgan regiment for the 2 horses that the farm gave them to aid the war effort in the first World War in 1914. This accommodation would be ideal for Groups i.e. Cyclists ,Walkers,Golfers and Large Families
We are mid way between J37 and J38 of the M4 and are surrounded by farm land. The holiday cottages date back to the 13th century and the whole site is Grade 2 listed and was once part of Margam Abbey. Margam Abbey is 1 mile from us, Kenfig Nature SSSI Reserve is 1.5 miles away and is famous for its bird life and orchids. The Prince of Wales pub and The Angel Inn are 1 mile away. Porthcawl town is a short drive and the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. We have ten golf courses within 30 minutes drive.
  • Great beds, showers, amenities and the hosts are lovely people. Breakfast was good too.

The Avondale House is set within 75 acres of private land within L&A Outdoors in the Goytre Valley. With walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, you can spend the day outdoors then spend a relaxing night in your hot tub.
The house is in a great location, being far enough away from town to feel remote whilst actually being a mere 5 minutes drive away. You'll have access to the valley with numerous amounts of walks to go on, you can have great views overlooking the town and docks to climbing up to see the reservoir. There is a coastal walk that takes you from Port Talbot to Porthcawl with stunning views over the bay. Aberavon beach is a short drive away and is a great place to stretch your legs whilst taking in the wonderful sky. This is a go to place for sunsets! Dogs are allowed on the beach at seasonal times, but during the summer there is a seperate beach where you can take your dog. Within the house you will find a wood burner in the green room (the living room), coal will be provided in the winter months. Occasionally we will have a big outdoor fire at the Tafarn, all are welcome.
The neighbourhood involves a lot of trees, a wide open sky and a lovely little river that runs through the site. The town of Port Talbot is a 5 minutes drive away with two main supermarkets. Aberavon beach is about a 10 minutes drive away with free parking along the road and a great place for dogs (seasonal).
  • Lovely location and everything we needed was there.

  • Mathew's place was great, the location is lovely. In a picturesque setting with a beautiful stream running near by. Perfect for a woodland walk, which we suprisingly managed even in the bad weather that we had. The accomodation is great for a large party. Plenty of space around the dining table for dinner and two seating areas to chill in. Mathew provided fire wood for the burner in the lounge and the hottub was ready for our arrival. Mathew was prompt with any questions we had. Thanks for having us Mathew, I really hope we can stay again in brighter conditions so that we can make the most of the surrounding area.

This apartment has been constructed over the Stables. It has been tastefully converted in to a 1 bed room holiday apartment retaining many of its original features. It has a lounge/kitchen-diner and a bedroom with a superking/twin bed and own shower room. The heating in the property is by thermostatic controlled radiators. This is the room where all of the farms working horses livery was stored and maintained.

  • The Tack Room was so so lovely. Warm, clean, spacious, well equipped. It had everything you need to dine in. Nice touches like milk, bread, Welsh cakes, butter, jam. The bed was amazing and the bathroom great, everything seemed very new. Parking on site with farm animals next door to amuse us. Thanks, Philip. It was lovely to meet you. PS There is on site breakfast which I’m sure was delicious but we chose to prepare our own!

This was once the old milking parlour where the farm’s resident herd of cattle were milked up until the early 1980’s. This delightful converted 1 bedroom cottage sleeps up to 3 people. The cottage on the ground floor has a lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining area .The rear door leads on to a patio area with views over the Margam hills. Upstairs there is a bedroom with a superking / twin bed and space for a guest bed and en-suite shower room, In the bedroom the ceiling’s wooden beams and A frames are mostly original and where they have had to be replaced the timber came from the Old Granary. The cottage has underfloor heating on the ground floor, supplied by our Biomass boiler, and thermostatic controlled radiators upstairs. The oak wood flooring used throughout the cottage has come from a local school which was being demolished and should last another 100 years.

  • Nigel was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much hassle. He was there to greet us upon arrival and really made us feel welcomed. The Cabin was very clean and tidy and extremely cosy and warm. We had 7 people staying in the one apartment and found it spacious and just the right size with lots of home comforts (TV, fridge, kettle, microwave etc). The bed's comfy and there was lots of local amenities for food and drink etc in the local village. The site itself had lots to do, all set in the beautiful hilly Welsh woodlands. We met Trudy the pig, chickens, cats, dogs and even some fluffy rabbits. Nigel gave us advice on several walks, all of which were fantastic. We also got to make our own camp fire! Really great place and so peaceful and relaxing, we will all be returning!
