Places to stay in Millers Flat
Melrose Cottage is a great place to put your feet up and let us look after you. Hot tub, great food and WiFi and Netflix. Super comfy beds in a clean and fresh environment.
Melrose Cottage is now open for your furry family members. Please note that this is NOT available next door at Melrose House.
The accommodation is situated by our apple orchard. Plenty of hills around to view from the cottage or to drive, walk or bike up to. Amazing views from top of Mt Benger. Just ask for the weather forecast as the weather can change very quickly at the top. Ettrick township has a lovely cafe and two fruit and vegetable stalls within walking distance from Melrose Cottages. Clutha river is not far from us and if you are into fishing, then there's plenty of fishing spots along the river bank.
  • Very clean and comfortable house, the owner is very hospitable

  • Pernilla’s attention to detail is fantastic. The cottage had everything we could have ever wanted, it was INCREDIBLY tidy, and there was plenty of space for our dog to have a good play in the enclosed yard. Pernilla was very thoughtful to check in on us regularly to make sure we weren’t needing anything. All that...and...you get to have some of the tastiest apples ever out of the orchard.

    Kim2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Sparkling clean with amazing views of the apple orchard. Can not fault this place.

  • Our stay at the Melrose Cottage was pretty special. If you want a slice of rural NZ for dessert during your travels then make sure you stop here. We stayed for 4 nights and used it as a base to explore Central Otago, one of our favourite places in NZ, well known for hot weather in the summer. Our kids loved this place. My mother and wife really enjoyed the detail - the little things that make a stay special. I really enjoyed the clean BBQ, amazing outdoor bath, kiwi tub and the Melrose Cottage Pinot Noir. My daughter has told me we have to go back so we look forward to crossing your path Pernilla - all the best for 2020

  • Just had 3 nights at Melrose Cottage. Really enjoyed our stay. Pernilla was a great host and the cottage had absolutely everything we needed, very clean, fresh towels and bathrobes, apples from their orchard, the list goes on,also so good to be dog friendly and Scout loved chasing rabbits round the orchard ( didn't catch any though ha). We would highly recommend this Airbnb. Thanks for sharing your lovely place Pernilla John & Debbie

Small family bach with all the basics for a minimalistic romantic stay. Enjoy the expansive views towards the Old Man Range to the north and be lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the mighty Clutha River. Check our amazing reviews! Try your luck fishing or swimming in the Clutha river, or you can ride or walk along the Clutha Gold Trail. Enjoy the local fruit in season, visit Miller's Flat's popular cafes or simply relax on the veranda with a good book and your favourite drink.
Please note that we have introduced a strict 3-day stand-down between guests to protect you from COVID-19. Please do not come if you have fever, coughing or difficulty breathing. Small, off-grid family bach with all the basics for a comfortable, but minimalistic stay. (Don't worry - we DO have a hot shower and flush loo, but no wifi - although there is good vodafone coverage). There's so much to do here, it's a destination in itself and many of our guests have told us that they wished they'd stayed longer. Immerse yourself in the rural sights and sounds and feel free to wander down to the river for a paddle, picnic, or try your luck catching a fish or panning for gold! Relax on the deck with a book borrowed from our extensive supply and enjoy an evening drink while the light changes over the Old Man Range to the north. Finally, be lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the mighty Clutha River, with not a care in the world! Plenty of other activites and points of interest in the neighbourhood, including mountain-biking, walking, 4 wheel-driving, fruit picking, sightseeing historical points of interest, visiting the local (highly acclaimed) Faigans cafe and meet some of the local farmers at the Millers Flat Pub. Whether you're after a romantic getaway for two or a fun family experience away from technology that the kids will never forget, look no further! (Sorry, less suited to more than 1 older couple at a time due to the sleeping arrangements). Check all our wonderful reviews.
Just 4 km from Millers Flat, where you will find the popular Faigans cafe and access to the Clutha Gold cycle/walk trail. A tennis court and swimming pool is available for a small fee at the school. 20 km to the Roxburgh fruitbowl and 12 km to the Historic Horseshoe bend bridge and famous Lonely Grave downstream.
  • A charming cottage in a beautiful location.Ideally suited for a family who want to get away from it all.

  • Sarah was a great communicator. If you love sitting relaxing and looking at a great view this is for you. We struck inclement weather but the bach was super warm and cosy and didn't dampen our holiday experience at all.

    Shell2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s place is truly unique, and I feel very lucky to have stayed here. The home is an elegantly designed bach full of character. It offers beautiful views of the river, pine forests, sheep dotted on the hills, and the property itself has cows, sheep, and deer. We loved their company. After just two days we were sad to leave. Sarah is the ideal host. I hope to visit again one day, and stay a little longer!

    Alexander2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place! We loved everything! The interior is beautifully designed, with so many unique touches. Relaxing on the porch surrounded by such stunning landscape was so special. Sarah was fantastic and thoroughly helpful. We couldn't have asked for more, thank you so much for sharing your space! :)

  • Hands down THE BEST air bnb we have stayed in to date. Utter peace and tranquility in the most magical setting you can imagine. Sarah is a great host, so fast to respond and keep you updated. If you want a romantic getaway or a family getaway, this place is perfect for both. They have their own private mini paradise with a river to swim in and the veranda is bliss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from a well travelled pair of bnb’ers.

  • This is a fantastic spot along the Clutha with a million dollar view. We loved the peace and quiet and simplicity of the set-up- and that we could bring our golden retriever too! The batch has everything you need and has been stylishly put together with some thoughtful touches (coffee plunger, candles etc) The bed and pillows are comfy and linen and towels are great. Thanks Sarah and John for sharing such a magic spot!

  • Staying at Jeff's place was a great and unique experience. The thing that stood out to me was a hospitality - from being greeted when you arrive, to a full breakfast and coffee - it was second to none. The value for the room is great - super comfortable bed and private bathroom/shower. I would absolutely stay here again if in the area. Thanks Jeff!

  • The whole family were so warm and welcoming, wonderful hosts.. Margie even let us dry our washing in the lounge so it was ready for us the next day. It was really nice to have our own kettle and treats to welcome us in the room. Comfy bed, great views from the room and nice hot shower. Delicious, plentiful breakfast in the morning with home made coffee from Jeff was a real treat. Really kind family.

Nestled on a Roxburgh hillside over-looking the picturesque Teviot Valley is your new favourite home away from home. Awatere B&B began as a passion project for Alastair and Debbie Monteath. Known for their dedication to organic produce and natural living, Awatere is a reflection of their passions for the quality, abundance and comfort offered by nature. Offering unpretentious luxury, quiet and safe with an unparalleled view, a stay in Awatere allows you to unwind and connect with nature.
Your room has its own private entrance and courtyard. You can eat your sumptuous organic breakfast seated at the outside table while looking out over the river, or surround yourself in the garden and soak up the sun. You have access to the rest of the garden where you may want to escape into your own private world.
We are in a small village and you will have other homes around you, although not close. We have a very large section so you will only be disturbed by the birdsong. Roxburgh is a very safe village and you can walk to the local cafes in the evening without any concerns. Please be aware, that we are halfway up a steep hill. This provides a wonderful panoramic view, but may be an issue for some cyclists. Parking is available on site so your property is not at any risk.
  • Theres nothing else to say but Wow! Great hosts, amazing room and the most wonderful bathroom to go with it. Stunning views, there will be no other choice for our hopefully regular visits to Roxburgh!

Set on the main street in the beautiful township of Roxburgh in Central Otago, Dalton’s Deed is an historic cottage, built 1866, which retains the rustic charm of a stone cottage. Take a step back in time and experience a touch of history. Offering two bedrooms, one queen room, one with two singles, lounge, separate dining/sitting room, separate kitchen, and bathroom. Outside features sunny and shaded areas and a sunny front porch, an ideal place to sit and watch the world go by.
Guests will have uninterrupted use of the entire property. The cottage is nearing one hundred and fifty years since originally built. It has been added to and modified over its lifetime. Retaining the character and charm of an historic cottage, and the the inherent ‘quirks’ that are inevitable with a property that has been evolving over many years. We offer an opportunity to experience a piece of history. If you are looking for 21st century sleek and modern, this is not the place for you, however we do thank you for looking.
The cottage is situated in the township of Roxburgh. Shops, cafe’s, restaurants, supermarket and services all within an easy stroll, or a one minute drive.

  • The cottage is so lovely! Super cozy and comfortable. You find everything you need and enjoy a relaxed evening next to a fake fire oven, I loved it! The garden is super huge and beautiful, as well as the little sitting option in front of the cottage, perfect for having dinner during sunset time. Even when it’s right next to the main road, it wasn’t loud or noisy at all. We would have loved to stay longer!

  • Natasha received us with great kindness. The house is very nice, the room is large and very clean, it just lacks a bit of heating, but the bed is warm and comfortable, there is even a heating blanket. We had problems with flooding with cut roads, but Natasha helped us a lot to find a passable road, she was ready to welcome us one more night if we were blocked.

    Martine2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • I found Natwick Lodge a homely, serene retreat. Set in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, gave the lodge an air of tranquility. The lodge is hosted by the cordial Natasha, whom with her conscientious approach to deliver a first class experience of the local area, delivers on all aspects a traveller could want. She is both very welcoming and charming to deal with. Nothing is a problem and you are made to feel welcome the second you walk through the door. I cannot speak highly enough about my stay at Natwick Lodge. Just a footnote, be warned. If you leave shoes or any other personal items on the deck to dry, just make sure Bodie is inside at all times. He is a lovely friendly dog but has a taste for all things human 😊

  • One of my fauvourite Airbnb - Nat was a super friendly host who made us feel really at home (also super cute dog Bohdi). Really close to some good hikes during the day; the living room had a fireplace which you could read next to or watch netflix in the evenings. Definitely a 10/10 experience, thanks Nat for such an amazing hospitality!

  • Nice comfortable house.

    Alex2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This house was exactly the stay I needed. After traveling around the North and South Island of New Zealand without being able to even catch my breath, this stay revived and refreshed me. The home is in a lovely town, in a lovely neighborhood. While it is close to many places tourists frequent, I just needed a couple days to catch up on sleep, and take care of bills and do some work back home on the internet undistracted. I feel rejuvenated and ready to spend another two months on the road. I especially appreciated the fact that this house a bathtub. After staying in countless hotels, all only with a shower (unless you paid a very high premium), I enjoyed soaking my back in epsom salts in the bathtub. I highly recommend this spacious place.

Unfortunately we were only there for one night - I would have loved to stay longer and we barely got to enjoy the neighborhood, but all was quiet and the property is beautiful! Thank you Marie for your thoughtfulness and stopping in to make sure we were well!

There are two living areas. The lounge has a sofa bed for extra guests. The farm style kitchen is well equipped with pots, pans and utensils. There is an electric frying pan, microwave and small electric stove for cooking. Lawrence is the nearest town. This is a 20 minute drive - or 90 minutes by bicycle along the Cycle Trail. This historic gold town is well-worth visiting. Take a walk around the historic gold mining area and enjoy the beautiful old buildings in Lawrence itself. Beaumont is 30 minutes drive from Roxburgh and Central Otago, 2 & 1/4 hours drive from Queenstown and 1 & 1/2 hours drive from Dunedin. The Clutha Gold Cycle Trail follows the Clutha River from Roxburgh to Beaumont. The views of the river are stunning. Be sure to stop at the Four Square shop in Millers Flat for an icecream. The Trail leaves the river at Beaumont and follows the old railway line for much of the route to Lawrence. The tunnel, 15 minutes east of Beaumont, is a fun feature to ride or walk through. Make sure you have a torch. Dunedin is the nearest largest city and this is a 1 hour and 20 minutes drive.
Beaumont is a small, friendly settlement in Otago, in the Clutha River valley. It's a relaxed, semi-rural setting. The Clutha River is great for fishing, kayaking and picnicking. The surrounding landscape includes rolling green hills, with the Blue Mountains to the southwest.
  • What a lovely place. So close to the river, so close to so many interesting places. We will be back!

  • Jean's place is awesome with gorgeous views over Lawrence. It's just a 5min walk to the town centre and the place has everything you need. The room was sparkling clean, very comfortable and Jean even provided us with croissants, homemade jam and other bfast items. We were in town for a wedding and didnt get enough time to enjoy all the comforts, so we will need to come back. Its a beautiful wee place away from the hustle of your every day life.

"The hotel that isn’t a hotel". Raes Junction Hotel is an iconic ex-hotel that is now a private residence. We provide very basic, old fashioned private hotel rooms and shared bathrooms that offer an affordable place to rest your head and freshen up. A basic continental breakfast is included in the nightly rate. Our home is a music lover’s passion project that is under continuous, unobtrusive restoration. The property and owner are full of character and facilities are no frills but comfortable.
Each of our rooms have one or two beds sleeping 2-3 people per room. In total our unique home can sleep up to 15 visitors, however we will advise availability on enquiry. Our property has ample parking for a lot of cars, campers or trucks. The original public bar at the front of the premises has been converted into a huge living room that has a pool table, dart board and music area complete with instruments. We have a seperate dining room and offer cooking facilities in a spacious but modest kitchen. Our four shared bathrooms/toilets are very basic but functional. We are pet friendly and have a large section for your four legged friends to romp and roll in the grass.
Raes Junction is located between Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill on State Highway 8. The trip to Lawrence, Tapanui or Roxburgh is approximately 30kms.
  • Gothic gateway to southern destinations! It’s worth making a stop here to enjoy budget accommodation full of wonderful surprises. My cosy bedroom was snug and spotless, and I loved the huge self-service country kitchen. You will love the warm welcome of a delightful hostess on a mission to restore a piece of Otago heritage.

    Deanne2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend this place highly enough, there should be 10 stars. The thought and care that Pernilla and Peter put into making their guests feel welcome and at home is second to none. We were a party of two couples and we walked into the house on a dreary rainy day to the fire going and a welcome cheese platter. This couple are outstanding. There was even a fridge with beer, wine and juices that can be purchased, though being on an apple orchard there is beautiful fresh apple juice waiting for you. Get the BBQ dinner pack, it is so worth it - best Apricot Crumble we have ever had. We highly recommend and will return one day in the Summer.

    DavidandTrish2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Pernilla created such a warm and beautiful space. With every little detail they provided from setting up the comfy rooms to complimentary breakfast we felt welcomed and taken care of. Would definitely recommend this space whether you want a little getaway or need it for a rest spot for one night during your travels.

    Brittany2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Pernilla and Peter were wonderful hosts and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They went over and above in ensuring that our stay was as comfortable as it could be. They were prompt in replying, friendly and reliable. Melrose House was a relaxing and comfortable place to spend a few days. Very clean and neat. Well equipped. Amazing fresh apple juice. Sweet crisp apples straight off their orchard. And the hot tub was a lovely treat at the end of each day before lazing in front of the fire... bliss...

  • This is the best Airbnb in New Zealand. Nat is an awesome host. We had a great time in this small and beautiful town. Natwick Lodge is an old house but everything has been renovated with style. We enjoyed chatting with Nat, having a BBQ with local meat, walking, sightseeing, relaxing at the house and playing with Bodhie, Nat's playful dog. My children and us were sad to leave and want to come back soon.
