  • True hospitality, etiquette and attentiveness is a rare thing these days - and Lilia & Mark excel in these areas. The space itself has a beautiful rustic charm (on the elegant side), with a beautiful view. Inside, I loved the Egyptian cotton sheets & everywhere you look is full of thoughtful touches, an eclectic mix of tasteful furnishings that are put together so well. We also treated ourselves to their 3 course meal, excellent value for money, with silver service - our hosts even cared that it had the right amount of spices etc to our liking. Honestly, I can’t fault this place...and beautiful Phoebe, their giant but gentle dog, won the award for “best hospitality” with my daughter! Terimah kasih to Lilia & Mark 🙏🏽

  • Very lovely hosts, very comfortable and a lovely view out of every window.

    Tammy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is exactly as it states in the listing, attached studio apartment on a lovely hobby farm. Lilia and Mark were nice to have a chat to on our arrival but left us to our own devices. Good price point for what you get. Great location for exploring the Tablelands :)

  • Quiet out of the way farm house that lets you soak in the country air and unwind. Such a peaceful atmosphere that was hard to leave. And even though the property is away from the centre of things, it's really not far to go sight seeing or visit one of the restaurant's in the Tablelands.

    Benjamin2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Thx for your hospitality. We did feel very welcome at your marvelous location.

  • Lilia’s place is just lovely. It is located on a beautiful farmland property - it is green, quiet, serene and beautiful. Our little 17 month old loved her sheep and the geese that roamed freely around the property and she loved checking out all of the beautiful flowers surrounding the entrance to the house. The cottage is quirky and homely inside and you can enjoy all of the little touches Lilia has styled it with. There is a lovely spot to sit outdoors undercover and just take in the stunning scenery with a drink, crackers and cheese. Lilia and Mark were very accommodating with our dog (who actually misbehaved quite a bit this trip to our disappointment). Lilia also was able to provide us with a beautiful home cooked meal on our second night (easy for us since we had been out all day with a baby) however there were enough cooking appliances and a very decent sized fridge had we wanted to cook our own meal/s in the cottage. Although remote it was still only a very short drive to Malanda where there are cafes, shops, ATM, supermarket etc which was very convenient. We highly recommend this cottage - it was a delight to stay. Thank you again for having us Lilia!

  • Great location if you are after peace and quite ( which we were) not far from Malanda and beautiful country scenery. Our teenager loved it and the early morning sunrise with the mist over the valley with the mountains poking through was a fantastic way to start the day.Mark, Lilia and their huge dog Phoebe wee very helpful and friendly hosts. Just bring supplies for a simple meal as it’s not a full kitchen ( no oven that I saw) but a small cook top, microwave, electric frypan is all there to whip up something gourmet if needed. The ground coffee supplied was great in the plunger. Wished we had a extra day to stay to soak more of it in!

    Heather2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome stay at Lilia's, great little cabin with everything we needed and more. Beautiful surroundings and adorable pets! We were very sad to leave the house and its hosts! Would definitely come back.

Our comfortable, little, self contained flat is in the heart of Millaa Millaa. It's only walking distance to town , Millaa waterfall and Millaa’s golf club .It is very quiet and surrounded by fruit trees and native animals. Only 10 minutes drive and you can enjoy a nice meal from the Teahouse , Pub or Mungalli creek Cafe and on your way home enjoy the beautiful waterfall circuit. We live upstairs and are happy to tell where the best hiking , swimming and sightseeing spots are in the tablelands
Being in our back yard, makes you feel like that you are in a private little Oasis . There is lots of birdlife. If you like to play golf, the golf club is only 3 minutes walking distance away. Need a swim the Millaa falls is a 40 minute hike or 5 minutes to drive
only one neighbor, but very quiet neighborhood.
  • Monikas place was absolutely lovely. The kitchen/ dinning area are located outside. The bedroom is located in one room and you walk outside through the kitchen area to get to the indoors bathroom. You definitely feel like you are a part of nature staying here and we loved it! The only thing I might recommend to Monika is having possibly providing a fan, as it was a very hot and humid night. Other than that, our stay was a 10/10. Highly recommended

  • Great place to stay while visiting the tablelands!!

    Daniel2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great space. Excellent bedroom, super comfy beds. Best bathroom with a great shower. Outdoor kitchen was a treat. Funky back yard to relax and explore in. And the host family represent true Australian hospitality. Highly recommend!!

  • Lovely people and lovely tropical bush below garden

    Shelley2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Monika and her family were very welcoming and helpful. The room is very comfortable and has everything we needed. We decided to stay a third night even because we had settled in. Gardens are gorgeous and the outdoor kitchen area is so nice to enjoy of an evening and for breakfast.

    Suezy2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home and beautiful garden. Great place to stay and a very welcoming family. You get the whole down stairs to yourself with a super open kitchen and dining patio. So many interesting Nik Naks in the garden. I took lots of photos. Only watch your timing as the pub does not serve food on Sunday night in the 'off' season so be prepared or travel to Yungaburra or bring food to cook. But the drive to Yungaburra is amazing and only half hour. So no biggy!

    Eileen2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Monika and her family were very welcoming. The space felt private, and was situated in a beautiful garden. It was clean, a good size, and had a kitchen for us to cook some of our meals. It was an ideal place to explore the Tableland region.

    Jack2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • On our trip through the country we were tired, so we couldn't go any further. Monika immediately accepted us, even though everything was already prepared for the next guests. A lot of value is placed on fauna and flora and regional products. Here we got the richest breakfast on our trip. It was an experience that I don't want to miss.

Located on a working cattle farm, this beautiful old stone cottage has been lovingly converted from the old dairy, which was built in 1944. The cottage is located 70 metres from the main farmhouse, and is very private with its own parking area and entry, secluded lawn and garden, fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, fireplace with oven and large undercover Alfresco area with your own BBQ to enjoy the extensive views out over the rolling hills and to Mt Bartle Frere.
We are located in a perfect location only minutes from Millaa Millaa town, the famous waterfall circuit, Mungalli Creek Dairy just to name a few. If you are looking for peace and tranquility and time away just to relax, you will find it right here. Just put up your feet and enjoy the spectacular views or read a book in front of the log fire. If you are more energetic, take walks to the creeks for some platypus spotting, or visit our incredibly beautiful lake for a swim. You may even see some turtles and water dragons or the very shy tree Kangaroos! We are family friendly and have a lot of other options for extra items for children, to make their stay more enjoyable, just ask and we will let you know if we can accommodate.
  • We loved our stay. Took a stunning walk down to there lake for a swim with a heard of young cows following us. Stunning! We also enjoyed the really nice view and kids loved all the toys that where left. Definitely recommend

  • This is a magical place with a great outdoor area to enjoy the fantastic views. Tammy was so welcoming, coming out to meet us in the rain with an umbrella. It is really well situated with places to eat and visit not far away but still delightfully rural. The cottage has everything you need and is a great place to stay :)

    Alison2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little cottage in a great spot with a private lake a short walk away and superb views over the mountains. Thanks!

    Paul2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Tammy and David’s place. We were travelling as a group of 6, 2 adults and 4 children aged 1 - 8. The space was beautiful and engaging for the adults and children, we particularly enjoyed the walks around the property, visiting the lake (we didn’t get a chance to swim due our own poor time management, but absolutely want to go back to enjoy the lake more), trying to spot the platypus and watching the storms/rain roll in over the hills whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the covered patio. Highly recommend enjoying The Old Dairy, perfect for families or a sneaky romantic get away.

    Timothy2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A great place for a relaxing holiday. Stunning views over the mountains and some interesting and picturesque drives in the locals area. A great place for waterfalls and wildlife and the scones at the local dairy are memorable

  • Lovely, peaceful place to stay with easy access. Very comfortable with lovely hosts.

    Dianne2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful people, exponentially thoughtful and caring. Bruce & Sandy give far more than expected, and value for money, we were welcomed with freshly baked Scones with fresh cream and homemade Jam, yummy, my wife’s favourite. The fridge was stocked with fresh local fruits, chilled water with fresh lime, local milk and even more surprising was fresh eggs, ham, bread, butter and organic oats for brekky... Inside and out is immaculately clean and tidy, and a very comfortable bed as well. We decided to stay in for dinner and enjoyed a beautiful home cooked meal with 5 star table service😊 The best air bnb experience we have ever had and we have had very many. Real value for money is the Riverside Retreat. Oh and be sure to check out Sandy’s handmade Soaps which she makes at home, they are amazing. We will definitely stay again and recommend Riverside to anyone who wants a clean and peaceful location to stay in Malanda, with good old fashioned service and smiles🙏🏼 Thanks again, looking forward to our next visit.

  • This was truly a rainforest paradise. We only had one night at the Riversong Retreat, but it was magical. Waking up to the sounds of nature with fresh homemade bread and fruits that Carina had left us was amazing. She even took us on a little tour of their river hike on the property. It was such a unique stay and hidden gem in the tablelands. I could not recommend more highly!

    Irjaliina2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Carina and Ron run a beautiful place, tucked away in the rainforest. We had a restful, relaxing and rejuvenating time at Riversong. We loved the home-made bread and appreciated their thoughtfulness in catering for us being vegan. Great place to stay in the Tablelands.

  • Very comfortable relaxed environment with wonderful lovely hosts

  • Amazing !! This would have to be one of the very best Air BnB experiences we've ever had. The location is breathtakingly beautiful and the generosity of our hosts was incredible, abundant fresh fruit, home made bread and produce offered for breakfast every day which was a tremendous and unexpected treat. The space was spotlessly clean, plenty of fresh towels and a cosy little pot belly fireplace to keep us warm, there was perfectly prepared wood for the fireplace that was replenished every day. The bed in the main room was sooooooo comfortable which made for a fabulous sleep, the kitchen was very well appointed and we wanted for nothing. Our hosts were lovely, whilst they were there, they were never intrusive and offered no shortage of great local tips and a guided walk down to the river which runs through their property. Our stay at Riversong would be in our top 3 all time Air BnB experiences, it is most highly recommended and anyone and everyone !!

  • Set in the rain forest near milla milla. Quiet and clean. Carina and Rob were really friendly with drinks on the deck to welcome us and lots of local travel tips. Enjoyed biking around the area.

  • What amazing hosts. The grounds around the house are beautiful and the hosts provide everything you might need to explore about -including gum boots and walking sticks. When Carina say that our very old little dog was shivering in the cold, she even sourced her a warm coat. The bread for breakfast was a great surprise and was delicious. Would have liked to be able to stay longer.

Usnea, our Nature, Art and Accommodation Space, is situated on the Evelyn Tablelands, Tropical North Qld. It is a fully self-contained one bedroom cottage in upland rainforest, surrounded by natural and established gardens, and at 1,160m provides a cool summer and cosy winter retreat. Uniquely the cottage integrates art within and outside. Contemplation, inspiration, privacy and comfort, are all to be experienced, along with exploring our forest and local environmental and historical features.
Usnea is a lichen that is very sensitive to air pollution and so is only found growing in clean air environments. Because it is abundant on our property we thought it an appropriate name for our nature, art and accommodation space. The Natural Space Our 61 acre property was purchased by us, Ben and Joan, in 1978 with the primary purpose of protecting important high altitude (1,160m) rainforest and its inhabitants. A diversity of plants and wildlife reside along this mountain range, the Hugh Nelson Range, which adjoins the large and complex Herberton Range National Park, a Wet Tropics World Heritage Area (WTWHA). We have a number of well established walking tracks on the property, the highlight of which is the Waterfall Track. The Residential Space We are the sole occupants of the property and so it comprises of a discrete residential area built within the confines of an historically altered section of the forest in order to minimise forest clearing. The forest surrounding the residential area is intact. As well as the main home, there are a number of separate buildings including an art studio, study/office, and outdoor living pavilion. A number of landscaped ‘garden’ spaces using both natural forest features and constructed elements are integrated throughout this residential space. The Guest Cottage Space The guest cottage is a discretely separate, independent, private accommodation dwelling incorporating outdoor and indoor constructed spaces. Outdoor Living Space A timber deck, white rhyolite gravelled court yard, timber screens and potted plants provides an attractive, private garden entrance to the cottage. The easily accessible outdoor timber deck area offers undercover access to the guest cottage as well as the laundry/storeroom, the BBQ area, and an open and comfortable space for the table and chairs. Laundry/Storeroom A covered, deck-connected entrance to this separate side room provides for ease of access. It is primarily a utilities and storeroom. Open Inside Living Space Glass sliding doors open to this inside space from the timber deck creating a continuous indoor-outdoor connection. It contains a lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. A small library containing a variety of books, and a diverse selection of music CDs should provide adequate reading and music material for the length of your stay. A small pantry of essential and not-so-essential items (tea, coffee, oil, salt, pepper, and more) is there to compliment your own supply of food and drinks. Breakfast provisions are also supplied and include bread, butter, jams, honey, milk, yoghurt, cereals, nuts, fruit and eggs. Subject to seasonal and local availability, breakfast and pantry provisions are predominantly organic and biodynamic products. Bedroom & Bathroom This is a one bedroom guest cottage available for use by two people only. It accommodates a king size bed or two single beds - please let us know which arrangement you prefer. All bed linen and pillows are supplied. A walk-in storage space provides adequate room for your luggage and personal clothing. The flat screen TV is for viewing movies only, a selection of which is available for you to choose from. The bathroom has a separate entrance for access from the open inside living space and bedroom. Towels and essential toiletries are supplied. Extra linen, towels and toiletries are also supplied.
This property is located in a rural residential area and so neighbouring properties vary from large rural enterprises to those engaged in smaller multiple farming activities, and importantly large conservation estates such as the WTWHA, and smaller private ones such as ours. There are no immediate residents nor buildings other than what is within our own small residential complex.
  • If your looking for a quiet relaxing peaceful chilled out time away or you just want to escape the summer heat and humidity I highly recommend this beautiful cottage. Hosts Ben & Joan are beautiful and very welcoming. The cottage and surroundings are kept in absolutely immaculate condition. Recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights to take in all it has to offer . Definitely love to return in future.

    Belinda2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I've stayed at a few places in the Tablelands and will always come back to Usnea when I can, it is situated in a rain-forest that was small-car accessible in Evelyn. The accommodation itself is a wonderful modern wooden bungalow surrounded by rain-forest, the host is generous and provides everything you could need if you do not wish to leave, if you do wish to leave there are many nearby national park hiking tracks, Mount Hypipamee, as well as incredibly peaceful private walking track that Ben has lovingly built and maintains. If you need a town/shops you can take a short drive to Ravenshoe or Atherton, I cannot recommend this location enough, a perfect base-camp to explore the tablelands and kind knowledgeable hosts who were happy to make themselves available to complement it.

    Tim2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Usnea is an amazing space that offers the perfect setting to recharge and relax on a unique and lovingly crafted property. The living space is cozy and stylish, and Ben and Joan's hospitality makes you feel completely at home. I would recommend staying more than one night so you have the time to enjoy the beauty and tranquility the space and property have to offer - the perfect getaway. We will be back!

    Sarah2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most lovely night's stays at Usnea. The house exceeded all expectations! It is stylishly decorated with great attention to detail and in stunning rain forest. Ben and Joan are great hosts, very knowledgeable about the rainforest and keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We would highly recommend staying here and hope to return soon.

    James2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time and the accommodation was immaculate and the Ben and Joan were number one! Loved it!

    Glenn2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I begin! Ben and Joan's place is a little slice of heaven. Beautiful surrounds with the rainforest and garden which connects to the ambience of the accommodation itself. Ben and Joan really went out of their way to provide us with a memorable experience, one night is not enough. Very clean, quiet and relaxing with lots of extra touches, we had more than what we expected. Thank you Ben and Joan, we shall be back.

    Loani2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • The place Ben & Joan have created is magical. We were so so positively surprised when we arrived and saw this beautiful and peaceful place on earth. The hosts are more then lovely people. Ben took us on a lovely rainforest walk and Joan makes sure you have everything you need. All the little treats were amazing for us to settle in. Hemingway’s on the Hill is a rustic private indulgence. Set high on the hill, bearing witness to the best of rural life. Cows graze paddocks, and flocks of birds fly overhead. Life is everywhere. Curated by Interior Designer Fifi. She wrote a story for the life to be lived in the space. Like the great man himself, thoughtful yet spare enough with surprises of artful collection. We escaped the city 15 years ago. We found a better life. Come and stay and write your own love story.
Hemingway's on the Hill is a self contained cottage with wonderful views. Private, set in its own garden room. Outdoor bath, fire pit, gorgeous luxurious linen and comfortable bed and furniture. The main house, the original 100 year old Dairy farmhouse, is nearby. You share the garden with curlews, bandicoots, sunbirds, figbirds and more. There are lots of birds, butterflies and native animals to watch from the verandah. The cottage is fully screened so the wildlife will stay wild. We are central to a fantastic, growing, tourism region, waterfalls and bush walking. Swimming at Lake Eacham is a short drive away. The area has the most wonderful and diverse fauna and flora. Also you can indulge your tastes in the developing tropical food experiences, local cheeses, coffee, tea, hand picked strawberries, local ice-cream, farmers markets, cooking schools etc. Hemingway's is not suitable for children under 7 years old.

  • This was our second visit to Hemingway’s and it did not disappoint. A perfect getaway and escape from the stress and bustle of everyday life. The location is outstanding and Fifi has thought of every little touch to make the stay extra special. My favourite bath of all time:) Thanks for everything.

    Lindsay2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cutest little cottage in a great location. Fifi was great to communicate with and made our stay very special. Thank you! We hope to be back one day soon.

  • Hemingway's on the Hill is just absolutely glorious ! Thank you Fifi for your enormous generosity and talent in making this little cottage so supremely beautiful and enchanting.

    Amanda2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Hemmingways on the hill was the perfect weekend getaway. The place was filled with thoughtful touches from local produce and eco friendly practices. The view was amazing and the bath was a highlight. Have all recommended this stay to all our friends.

    Kimberley2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hemingway’s on the Hill, is a truly amazing place for any couple to write their own love story, like suggested in Fifi’s intro. We stayed 2 nights and will be back in the near future, definitely. Our time in the beautiful cottage was so special for Rick and I. Meeting Fifi was fabulous, the beautiful touches she created in the cottage are so special, the outside bath is amazing, the blocks of wood her hubby left on the patio for our Harley were priceless. They truly have thought of everything, we highly recommend!

    Marney2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • When looking for a nice little place to stay in the tablelands we were so very lucky to have chosen Fifi’s place, it’s amazing, no one would be disappointed. From our perspective it was the absolute perfect romantic getaway from our busy day to day life in Cairns. It’s quiet and very private, has a beautiful view over rolling green hills and the outside bath is an absolute must to experience. Everything you could possibly need is provided including breakfast, which was very convenient. We are both hosts of busy Airbnb’s ourselves and this place isn’t full 5 star for nothing, it’s top notch :)

A cosy self contained cottage in the Atherton Tablelands. No neighbours for 400 meters. Enjoy the peace and quiet, abundant wildlife and various walking tracks on our 20ha property adjacent to World Heritage Forest. A great central place to explore the beautiful Tablelands. Most guests wished they could have stayed longer so consider to stay an extra night.
A very comfortable self contained cottage on our 20ha property in the Atherton Tablelands. The property is a gazetted Nature Refuge under legislation so wild life is abundant with wallabies, possums and many birds coming close to the cottage. The cottage is away from any main roads and 400 meters from our house that is located further up in the forest.
Our local village Herberton, offers Pubs, Take Aways and Cafes as well as a convenience store. The Herberton Historic Village is a main attraction and there is a Mining, Railway and Spy Camera museum. There are many day trips to National Parks, Waterfalls, Small Villages, The Coast, The Outback and Scenic Touring. We have a large variety of brochures of all local attractions in our surroundings and are happy to give suggestions.

A cabin with ensuite, private balcony and glorious views. Own BBQ and fridge stocked for breakfast. We have a unique craft/jewellery workshop on site. Wake up to wild parrots, bush turkeys and if you are lucky, tree kangaroos!
Our B&B is situated in close proximity to all local attractions on the Atherton Tablelands. e.g. waterfalls, crater lakes and tropical rainforest walks. Groceries can be bought in Malanda (five minute trip.) also check out our local markets on most weekends. Our area is a great place for bird watchers and walkers
  • Roger is a lovely host who made me feel at home and very welcomed. The cabin is lovely and the property is spectacular. I would recommend this relaxing stay to anyone!

    Nat2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an unexpected little treasure we found! Roger was very welcoming and showed us around the place. Great hospitality, beautiful grounds- we sat under their massive tree for about an hour to relax in the cool and to listen to the birds. Roger kindly put on the aircon before we arrived. Breakfast was organised for us and placed in the fridge to cook the following morning - bacon, eggs, fresh bread, tomato, orange juice, milk, butter & jams. I would recommend this accommodation for a couple who likes to be surrounded by beautiful country scenery. Upon reflection, we should have stayed another night.

    michelle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay with Roger and Joanne. The area is beautiful and they gave us some tips on what sights to see while we were there. The place had everything we needed and was very calm and peaceful!

  • Great place to stay. Easy and secluded with personal space. The breakfast provided is so thoughtful and amazing quality. Everything has been thought of 😍

    Siana2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool studio on a beautifully landscaped property. This unit is completely private and separated from the main house by about 50 yards. The view from the front deck is lovely, and the hosts left a wonderful breakfast spread for us which we really appreciated. It’s a ways out in the country, but this is a very interesting area, with a lot to offer and great for exploring. We used Rogers place as a jumping off point to explore the waterfalls on our way to Cairns.

    Nick2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • If I could rate this 5 plus I would. A wonderful cottage in the tablelands but close to so many wonderful sights. You won't go wrong staying here. Both Roger and Joanne are so welcoming. Loved the cottage. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. They are such wonderful hosts. Their pewter jewelry workshop is an added bonus. Wish we could have stayed more than the two nights. So many wonderful bird sounds. We had rain while there (which they needed) so we didn't get to view the stars. But I bet they are spectacular.

    Catherine2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Sydney and Port Douglas before heading to Atherton Tableland. Not so many people heard about Atherton Tablelands, but visiting this magical place is one of the highlights in our trip. Day trip is not enough, really worth staying a few nights, and we are lucky to find Roger and Joan’s place. Roger and Joan’s are very lovely couple, responsive, and welcoming. The room has all you need, from torch, card games, basic seasoning, cooking tools. Bed and linen are comfortable, we are refreshed every morning. The location is good and you can visit many places every day. For example, it is about 20 mins by drive to platypus viewing platform. We went there around 6am, and another couple told us there is a small track behind it. Where we found more platypus !! One scratching his head and belly with the wood, one seeking for food in riverside, a few more swimming here and there ! We were so excited to spot them in the wild. Then we went to the tea plantation and spotted tree kangaroos !! One sleeping with her head against the branch, one playing with his/her tail. You should check out the waterfall circuit for sunset, at one point you would reach the top of the endless mountains in 360 degree, all the clouds are very low. And cows are eating next to you (behind fences). Mooo what a good day! One more key point to note, Roger and Joan makes jewelry and decorations with tin, all self design and brings you good memories of the nature, plus they are in reasonable price, you could get a pair of ear rings with lovely koala, laughing kookaburra, etc. Or a platypus to put on the table as decoration ! Remember to visit earlier and bring cash :p

  • We where greeted by Paul the caretaker, who was an absolute gem. The little touches like bottle of wine and cheese, the outdoor bath and cows roaming in the front paddock made it an even more wonderful weekend away even in the rain.

    Annelise2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Had such an amazing stay here! Where do I begin? We were greeted by Paul and his super sweet dog. Snugs was so friendly and gave me much needed doggy snuggles after a long day. She was super energetic, and I loved watching her jump into the swimming hole during our stay. We were sad to leave after just two nights and would have stayed longer if our itinerary allowed for it, but we had to get on our way to the next leg of our trip. The place itself was shockingly clean and well-maintained. I’ve stayed in Airbnbs where the hosts just want to maximize profits, putting little to no thought into the actual comfort of the guests, but this was no such place. Every detail from the wine and cheese plate upon arrival to the quality of towels was excellent. They are very invested in making sure you have a pleasant stay. We were able to pick fruit from the trees and vegetables from the garden. This brought us so much joy. Preparing meals fresh from the farm was an incredible treat. They also supplied fresh eggs, milk, bread, juice, coffee, and so on. They supply their own honey as well, which you can take with you if you don’t finish it during your stay. I was a little concerned that it’d be super hot without air conditioning, but we slept super comfortably and the fans were perfect. The tub was one of my favorite elements of the place itself. It was so refreshing to wake up and take a bath with that beautiful scenery. I long for that tub as I write this review. We just felt completely at peace here. Paul was so great, and we enjoyed talking to him throughout our stay. He is an extremely caring and thoughtful individual, and takes genuine interest in people. He’s sharp and a quick learner, which made for great conversations. We hope to be back again next year for more delicious finger limes, and to visit our new friends at Thiaki Creek Farm.

  • Beautiful place to stay. Yolonde communicated well and we loved all the little extras, bread, milk, fresh farm eggs, organic honey, a lovely cheese platter and a beautiful bottle of wine. Tranquil retreat with the beautiful bath on the deck overlooking the rain Forrest. Highly recommend

    Halina2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Yolonde's place is a beautiful hide away in amongst the rain forest and rolling hills. The house has all you need for a stress free weekend away, she's provided everything you need in the house, just bring food and wine. The balcony bath is a great feature and it's seclusion will tempt even they shyest of travellers.

    Geordie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely worth your money and a great opportunity for a couples getaway in a relaxing environment. Just what we needed to start the New Year off! There was also heaps to do and see in the area.

    Mikayla2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house itself was wonderful, it has everything you need and more. The animals cruising around were a real bonus. The main attraction was Paul, the care taker, he was a delight to speak with and very welcoming. He showed us where everything was and made sure we were settled. The bed and sheets were the softest of my life. Would go back!

  • On the Wallaby is the best little secret on the Tablelands--truly a haven for travelers on the hop from all around the planet to meet and enjoy a restful or adventurous stay, your choice! The rooms and shared facilities are private, spotlessly clean, totally comfortable, and feels instantly like home, just asking to be enjoyed and lived in. Everything has been thought out and provided, and the sustainable philosophy is evident throughout the property. Our stay gave us a warm, fuzzy feeling that human beings can learn to do the right and good thing for themselves, each other, and the planet, all the while sharing the joy of being alive and able to explore and marvel at our beautiful world and the possibilities. The Atherton Tablelands is a magical place in QLD, well worth discovering, and On the Wallaby would be the perfect place from which to take hops from! All the best to travelers everywhere, and remember that the longest and most important journey is from our heads to our hearts.

Located in a pristine part of the Atherton Tablelands, ‘Feathers at Frogmore’ provides absolute privacy, peace and quiet. Enjoy this rare opportunity to stay in a unique off-grid dwelling and relax in complete seclusion with a stunning waterfall and river. Currently a 4WD VEHICLE IS REQUIRED to access the property (please read 'House Rules' for more details).
‘Feathers at Frogmore’ is a two storey dwelling with an unusual design and features beautiful natural hardwood timber throughout. The house is ideal for families or groups. The house can sleep up to 11 people. There are two upstairs bedrooms, each opening onto its own balcony. “The River Room” has a stunning view through French doors onto the balcony, overlooking the rainforest that fringes the Beatrice River and the mist-enshrouded World Heritage mountains beyond. It has a queen bed and a single bed, as well as another single bed in a very large adjoining walk-in-robe, plus a spare single foam mattress that can be used on the floor if necessary. “The Reef Room” looks out on the tree-ferns and rainforest surrounding the house. It has a queen bed and 2 single bunk-beds and is decorated with a tropical reef theme. Downstairs, a sofa in the sitting-room can be converted to a double bed.
The property has several short walking tracks, through the rainforest and along a small cleared river-flat (“Fantail Flats”). Platypus Pool and the spectacular Beatrice Falls can be accessed by two separate short walking tracks through the rainforest, and both provide excellent swimming opportunities, with no-one else around. Souita Falls is only a short drive back up the road towards Millaa Millaa and well worth a look if you have time.
  • If you are wanting to get off the grid and enjoy nature this is the place. An unique property in the heart of Misty Mountain is Feathers at Frogmore. Stunningly built in an unique design with bedrooms upstairs. These bedrooms have balconies that open to allow you to feel at one with the mountain. The house has furniture hand made with local timbers to add to the ambiance of the property. With no internet coverage or tv’s there is plenty of time to walk the many tracks on the property, or discover the water fall, creeks or ponds that are all easy to access. Quite an amazing property.

  • The house is fantastic! You will need a 4x4 vehicle to get to the house. The creek was stunning and the girls really enjoyed the brisk swim at platypus pool. We saw a couple of possums, a leaf-tail gecko and plenty of leeches on the walk!!! The fire place really heated the house up all nice and toasty. We recommend you take all that you need and shack up for the whole time you are there. We are already talking about returning in the summer time.

This home is on a quiet street in a very small country town. One of the first built in the area during the 1920', it has been expanded over time. Plentiful bird life can be found in the surrounding gardens, with a variety of rain forest nature walks in the area. The room is large and well appointed and has an old style feel about it. It is listed in the original spirit of Airbnb, where you are invited to share the resident's authentic lived in home, as opposed to booking just another motel room.
Large Master Bedroom in private home. Originally built in the late 1920's, this home has been expanded over the years but still maintains some of the typical cottage features of the period. The room features a comfortable Queen timber bed with additional sofa bed, timber wardrobe, large screen wall mounted tv with entertainment system including HDMI cable in place for laptops, bar fridge and dining table. There is a full kitchen and laundry in the house and both can be used upon request. Being an older home the bathroom is quite small with a shower only, but is well appointed and clean with a large rain shower head. Within walking distance of shops, pub, cafes and Millaa Millaa Falls, there are free push bikes with helmets and golf clubs available for use at the nearby Millaa Millaa Golf Club. Wireless internet is available for emails upon request and there are several indoor and outdoor entertainment areas with a brazier in the back yard for evening drinks around the fire. Homes in this area are heated during the winter by open fires, and we are located in a rural area with lots of farms, gardens and flowering plants, so if you are hyper sensitive to dust, smoke or non air -conditioned air please keep this in mind.
Walking distance (one street) to cafes, parks and the local pub, which is tourist orientated. There is an excellent golf course also within walking distance, along with various local bush walks. Millaa Millaa Falls is approx half an hour on foot, 5 minutes by car, and there are a variety of push bikes here for use during your stay if you ride. Within the local area there are a variety of tourist destinations, scenic drives and national parks. Maps and brochures are available in the room.

    Celine2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Chris’s place was a welcome respite. The house is full of character reflecting bygone times and is well set up for Airbnb. Chris recommended the local wood fired pizza at a local eatery at it was amazing. Chris is a knowledgeable about the region and this is a great place to base yourself for a few days if you are driving around exploring the Tablelands. Happy to recommend!

    Paul2019-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Chris house just for one night but could easily have stayed longer if we had more time in the area. The location is perfect with just a short drive to the start of the Waterfall Way, as well as a beautiful lookout where we watched the sunset. The room is very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The bed is super comfortable and you have a tv and lots of movies to chose from if you want to have a movie night after a day of exploring. Chris is very friendly, social and welcoming and we immediately felt at home in his place. He also gave us great local advice about what to do in the area and shared interesting stories about his travels around the world. We loved the relaxed vibe here and strongly recommend it to fellow travelers!

    Emilia2018-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Chris's place is well located, near all the waterfalls in a quiet street. The room is super spacious, and contains everything you need, from a kettle and a fridge to a TV and a million dvds. Chris is lovely and he gave us advice on what to see around his place. I would definitely recommend his place!

This gorgeous old war cottage has been lovingly revamped and is ready to start her new life hosting guests from around the world. She has an awesome soul, a beautiful gum tree lined drive and plenty of native birds to keep her company. Her owner has hosted more than 50 people at a previous address and loves sharing her space. Looking out through the 70 year old stained glass window while you soak in the tub is an experience that restores you, body and soul. Let its magic work for you.
During the day I work, so the entire space (apart from the front bedroom) is yours to use. The fully appointed kitchen has a new gas stove with oven and grill. The yard is leafy and grows beautiful flowers and vegetables. Being only a short walk from the centre of town, local pubs offer good old fashioned food and the area has world heritage rainforest and amazing waterfalls.
Ravenshoe is on the rainforest waterfall loop so there are many natural wonders to visit. Curtain Fig at Yungaburra, the crater lakes, Mt Hypipame and numerous national parks. Wildlife abounds here, particularly birds and possums. The natural beauty of this area is amazing. With a temperate climate due to the altitude humidity is much lower than on the coast. It can be cool at night so pack a sweater.
  • If you’re looking for a place to stay in Ravenshoe/tablelands then look no further. Glenda’s place is lovely and she makes you feel very welcome. Highly recommend

  • A beautiful rainforest retreat near Herberton. Modern cottage with washing machine, air conditioning and bbq/ verandah. Secluded private space at the back of hosts property with large windows that make you feel like you are among the trees. Very kind and helpful hosts.

  • A wonderful place for couples to stay. Everything was immaculate and surprisingly modern. One tip re dining out. Most places in town are closed by 6pm, including the supermarket (at least when we were there - October 2019). The Royal Hotel, however, is open every evening for meals except Sunday and Monday. We were told we could get a meal at The Australian (next door, same management) on the Sunday evening but all that was offered was frozen take-away. This may change as the new management has big plans. Be sure to check out the Lollie shop run by Karen, and the delightful retro cafe, Jacaranda. A step back in time.

    Maria2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Idriess Cottage is the most fabulous place to stay for a single or couple, we just wish we had stayed longer. It is very well appointed, private and the breakfast provisions were a very welcome addition. Nothing else is needed here and it is close to all Atherton Tablelands attractions or you can just spend your time lazing on the verandah or light a cosy fire. We would recommend it to everyone .. a must for your Atheron stay.

Perched on the waterfront on Tinaburra Waters, on the edge of Yungaburra, the enchanting Lakefront Holiday Villas are an idyllic getaway for couples and honeymooners, as well as being a birdwatchers and wildlife paradise. When you walk through the door of your Lakefront Holiday Villa you will be inescapably drawn by this beautiful outlook.
The Lakefront Villa is located at lake Tinaroo and is at the heart of the Tablelands. The Tablelands have a unique natural environment with creeks (for example the Platypus viewing point in Yungaburra), waterfalls (Milaa Milaa falls and the Waterfall circuit or the Malanda Falls), lakes (lake Echam or Lake Barrine being my favorite ones), treks (I recommend looking into the trek leading into Windin falls which is a natural infinity pool) and so on. You newer get bored around the Tablelands - come and discover for yourself.
  • Lovely clean and tidy cottage with an amazing view of the lake, perfect for a peaceful and refreshing get away! Loved staying here!

  • Nicks place is a great old charm Queenslander with plenty of room for my family of four The beautiful views off the veranda is an amazing place to sit back have a beer and a bbq and soak up the peaceful surroundings of the lake. The added convenience of being able to leave our boat in the water directly in front was great, easy access to fishing skiing or any activity on the water. Thanks Nick will be sure to come again.

  • Was a beautiful place that both my partner and I had the relaxing getaway that was well needed with the added bonus of the best view around. We have been uploading photos and our friends and family are already asking us where this cute cottage is located and where to book. We definitely recommended this accommodation to everyone of course. Thanks for having us.

My place is situated closely to Herberton (13km distance) and Atherton (30km distance). Day tours to the rainforests with creeks and waterfalls, to the ocean and even to the closer outback are easily possible. We have lovely views over the fields, hills and trees. Especially birds, can be observed on a regular base. But we can see as well agile wallabies, bettongs, tree kangaroo's, monitors and other marsupials and reptiles. I do speak German as well- coming originally from Germany.
The house is peacefully nestled between fields and tree's on a 3 acre block. At the front is a lovely meditation, yoga and treatment room - the hobbit hole. At the rear end of the house is a big veranda with tables and chairs and a comfortable sofa for your convenience.
It is a quite area. The neighbours can't be seen from my place. But they are close by and very helpful if ever needed.
  • A beautiful little house in nowhere Sitting on the veranda one could spend days, visit comes over again and again: Various birds, wallabys, butterflies Leaves rustle Oh and a big spider - my Australian son-in-law - just a Huntsman

  • Viola is a wonderful host. Her location is beautiful. Highly recommend her BnB.

    Wendell2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcome, had the place almost to ourselves, we delved into a peaceful world for a night and woke to the bird songs. The place has all you need to cover your basic needs comfortably, is just beautiful with a personal touch wherever you put your eyes. We highly recommend and will go back when the occasion arises.

  • Wonderful space if you are wanting peace and quiet and 'time out' from a busy life. Highly recommend the space and Viola was a wonderful hostess

    Cheryll2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Viola's house: beautiful house & surroundings, peaceful and quiet, lots of privacy, and friendly chickens and betongs, also shy wallabies. Viola is very helpful and friendly, and has a lot of good local knowledge and sightseeing tips. We really felt at home here. Thanks!

    Tamy2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful quiet location to get away from the bustle and lots of wildlife

    Murray2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Viola is a warm & thoughtful hostess. Her colourful home reflects her artistic spirit & she loves to share her passion for wildlife with guests. We really enjoyed the warm fire she lit & watching the bettongs (really cute little marsupials) through the glass door. Our bedroom was comfortable & her home is in a very quiet rural setting.

    Annette2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Viola's accommodation is nestled in the beautiful nature of the Atherton Tablelands. On the large property you can see many different animals and in the evening when you watch the betongs (super sweet, small Kangorooart) while eating in front of the terrace or sitting in front of the burning stove, you can switch off very well. We talked very well and extensively with Viola, she is with her cheerful, young at heart kind of something very special. Would like to stay there longer.

  • Mark and Katharina’s cottage was very comfortable, and relaxing, a reminder of yesteryear. It is set in a serene and peaceful oasis. The views are stunning and the pool was saltwater which I loved and Mark and Katharina were great hosts and quick to respond to the queries I had. I would love to stay again.

  • Quaint, clean cottage with a lovely fireplace. Beautiful setting for a secluded getaway!

    Donna2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great location if you're looking for a quiet spot to relax and not too far to drive for everything The Tablelands has to offer. Plenty of wildlife around so don't be alarmed if you hear a lot of bumps in the night (the possum at the front door was a nice surprise) and the cabin itself is nice and cosy. Not a lot of space for cooking if you're planning on eating in, so either plan to eat out or stick to simple toast or bacon and eggs. Mark was a fantastic host, delivering firewood for the fireplace (which you'll need if you're there in winter!) and great communication. Would definitely stay again.

  • Stayed over one month. Was exactly what I wanted. Clean, close to everything, quiet environment, great for walking, jog and swim at lake. Their are shops and a cute village close by. Nice little patio to sit out on and read. Comfortable chairs. Very relaxed and a great little bnb. Loved having the private entrance. Judy around if needed. Was a really nice stay.

  • This place is the perfect AirBnB. I usually have a few small suggestions for hosts to make their places a bit better but this time I honestly couldn’t think of anything to improve. The space is in perfect condition with brand new appliances... actually everything seemed new. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped, there was food for breakfast and all the basic necessities. It’s in a great location for exploring the beautiful Atherton Tablelands. Highly recommended!

Our Tropical Flower Farm is a 52-acre property situated at the foothills of Mt Bartle about one hour drive south of the Cairns International Airport. We grow an extensive variety of tropical Heliconia and Ginger for use in the Australian Cut Flower market. Our farm is completely self-sustainable. We have a waterfall that generates our power through Hydroelectricity and gravity-fed water from a natural spring.
The Guest House is a charming historic Queenslander which was formally a Schoolhouse. The building has been fully restored and refurbished in a style suiting with the stunning surroundings. From the balcony you will have unique and stunning views of the valley and mountains.
Why not do some exploring of the area? It’s a must! We have so many ‘treasures’ just a short distance from the farm. Here are a few of my favourites. Mt Bartle Frere sits in Wooranooran National Park, it is Queensland’s tallest Mountain and at it’s base is spectacular Josephine Falls which is one of the Top Tourist spots to visit in North Queensland. It is just 5 minutes away. There is also a walking track to the top of the mountain. This track is 25kms long and more suited to the avid adventurer, or a 10min walk to arguably the best rock side and swimming hole in North Queensland. Just 20min up the road is the town of Babinda, home to the Babinda Boulders and other gouges and swimming holes. Babinda is a small, quaint sugar processing town with all the shops you need to stock up for your stay. Eubenanqee Swamp Wetland Walk is 15 minutes away. This wetland is one of your hosts favourite spots to sight crocodiles in the wild, if that’s your thing. Very ‘important’ bird area. The 1.5 kl walk comprises of lovely lagoons and swamps. Bring your binoculars as the view from the top of the hill looking back over the swamp and mountains is breathtaking on a clear sunny day. *Note - you must take insect repellent. Bramston Beach Is our closest beach which is 30mins away. You can walk along the white sand of this unspoiled beach collecting shells. Stop off for fish and chips at the local shop or put your boat in at the boat ramp to fish in the creek. Alternately just fish of the beach. Heading NORTH Deeral offers the Frankland Islands, a cluster of pristine National Park Islands which is 30min north on the Bruce hwy. A boat tour/cruise leaves every day to take you to this amazing group of islands. Snorkelling and diving is possible there off the beach. Seeing the Great Barrier Reef with turtles and Clown Fish, (NEMO) within meters of the beach is amazing. It’s great not having to spending hours getting out to the reef. This allows you to spend more time exploring the island and snorkelling for around 4.5 hours. Behana Gorge is 40min up the highway and is yet another beautiful crystal-clear mountain swimming hole to enjoy. This is a 3.2 km walk into Clamshell falls. The walk is full of open Eucalypt forest changing to rainforest ferns. This is part of ‘The Great Green Way'. If you’re thinking of looking SOUTH for some tourist spots? Take a look at these. The town of Innisfail is known as a banana and sugar town and is a ‘noted Art Deco town’. It sits on the Johnson river. Innisfail is 25mins from you, so you can stock up at the major supermarkets here. Snapping Tours at Innisfail wharf is a locally owned family business offering boat cruises along Innisfail’s Johnson River. This is great for spotting local wildlife such as Crocodiles. Etty Bay 32 mins away is a little cove beach where you can see the local Cassowary walk along the beach and into the park looking for food. You must be there around 9 am to see them. Australian Sugar Heritage Centre is at Mourilyan just on your way to Etty Bay. The Centre is a museum where you can experience the drama and heritage of the sugar cane industry and see how sugar is produced. The displays are history in the making of our area. Paronella Park 40 mins away, is one the top tourist places to visit in North Queensland. Paronella Park has a ’Romantic’ history. It is ruins of a Spanish castle set on a picturesque 5-hectare park next to Mena Creek Falls. It was Queensland’s first privately owned hydroelectric plant built back in 1933. It offers a unique view into one man’s dream to build a Castle and open it up to everyone.
  • We loved everything about our stay, delightful house, thoughtful touches, everything we could possibly need during our stay, lots of information, the peacefulness, sitting on the veranda enjoying the rain falling all around us and then there were the flowers. Amazing!

    Chris2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jodies place is a very special gem on a hill overlooking a large tropical flower farm and backing onto a tropical rainforest /jungle National Park. The house is a lovingly restored former School with all the traditional Queenslander features, a huge deck and equipped with new, modern appliances, BBQ, luxurious amenities and superb handcrafted furniture. We hope to visit again soon for a longer stay!

    Andrew2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jodies place is a little paradise! My friend and I stayed for a couple of days and wished that we could stay for a couple of weeks. The house is gorgeous - spacious, comfortable, cool in the heat, and beautifully decorated with the tropical flowers grown on the farm. It has everything you need (including an additional outdoor shower and bath) and Jodie even left a little hamper of goodies to help us with our stay. We loved that the farm is powered by a hydroelectric system on the creek on the property which also provides the delicious drinking water, as well as multiple places to swim including an incredible private waterfall (no crocs here!). There are two sweet horses and two friendly dogs to meet, and many things to do around the area as you are so close to the national park, Josephine falls and Babinda boulders. Jodie and her family were so welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area and the flowers that they grow, taking us on a tour of the farm which was really interesting and guiding us to the upper waterfalls. We had such a peaceful and relaxing stay here and we hope that we can come back one day in the future.

  • The Pond Cottage is a peaceful cottage with some nice homely touches. We enjoyed sitting by the pond and spotting birds and other wildlife. The hosts were friendly and interesting to talk to. We would happily stay here again.

  • We loved our time at The Pond Cottage. So peaceful and away from it all. David and Anne provided lovely extra touches. Sitting in the spa watching the platypus in the pond was magical.

  • This is a very peaceful place surrounded by greenery and wildlife. Anne and David are warm and generous hosts and the cottage itself is comfortable and cosy. We would definitely return and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Magic spot, quiet place with a chance to go offline and relax. We wanted to stay longer! Great hospitality, thoughtful touches, and very welcoming. Thanks for having us.

  • Anne and David are warm and friendly hosts who meet and greet you with a welcome drink and lots of local information. They were available if necessary but clearly respectful of guest privacy. Anne and David are considerate hosts - we were pleasantly surprised by the little treats in the cottage and they even went out of their way to source the milk we prefer! The space is cosy and comfortable and very well equipped - whatever you need seems to be there. We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived and we loved the retro feel of the place. We enjoyed a Misty Mountains trail walk one afternoon and the hot spa was the perfect way to soothe our bodies on our return. If you are in need of rest and relaxation, or a complete break from the busyness of life, don’t look past this little place. Great hosts, a comfortable cottage in a peaceful place - the only sounds you’ll hear are those of nature - this is an opportunity to feel as though you’ve stepped back in time - when life was simple and nature was in charge. Thanks so much Anne and David. It was perfect. We will be back!

Travellers Rest now trading as Malanda Manor has been lovingly restored and is available to accommodate singles, couples and families. Located 5 minutes south of Malanda, this beautiful home is central to all attractions on the Tablelands and is certainly a landmark in it's own right. Rich in history, the property was home to the Jaggan Primary School built in 1918. We welcome all to come enjoy this and personal experience.
Newly refurbished self contained room with private en-suite.
  • Gorgeous location, comfortable rooms, check in and communication were easy, would definitely recommend.

    Jessica2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • My family escaped up to the Tablelands for a mini escape and we are so please we booked Malanda Manor. The accommodation was beautiful, the host Bec was lovely and her cooking absolutely delicious. Our children want to go back just for the dinner and dessert. We loved sitting by the gorgeous fire and chatting to the hosts who treated us like life long friends. The bed had the most comfortable mattress and the breakfast was a feast of local fruit, local bread and various condiments, a selection of cereals and my favourite - Mungalli milk and yoghurts! Bec is also knowledgeable on the region and places to visit. We highly recommend Malanda Manor and hope to return for a longer stay in the near future.

  • The en-suite bedroom and comfortable bed was modern and delightful Nestled in the rainforest Larry’s home had a lovely outdoor area to relax and enjoy. The kitchen was the only area that was a bit of a let down.

  • Larry was a great host, the room was very clean and comfortable. The house is in a great spot surrounded by rainforest and if your lucky you may even see some of the wildlife. I highly reccomend it.

  • Larry's house is a bit secluded, but it only adds to its unique, offbeat charm. Great place to stay for nature lovers like us. We spent that night surrounded by green walls of rain forest, spooked a couple of brush turkeys and pademelons on our way back to Malanda.

  • Excellent room for those who seek exotic quite places and hospitality. The place is located near small rainforest, tons of creatures there, I met Echidna on arrival and some jumping rats probably wallaby kangaroo. Room is very good with separate large bathroom (entrance from the room only). The host is very intelligent and it is interesting to talk with him, for those who like chess - he should play very good :) He provided access to frindge, utensils, etc. I liked to have a breakfast in the garden behind the house surrounded by rainforest. Nearby (7 min by car) is lake Eachem, absolutely fantastic to swim there. 15 min to Yungaburra with the fig tree and the river filled with plenty of platypus but I didnt have enough luck to see one :(

This is a cute cottage in the rainforest, close to many natural wonders and tourist attractions on the Atherton Tablelands. It features: a double bed in the master bedroom; a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, gas stove and oven, and microwave; toilet and shower outside and undercover; covered carport; washing machine/clothes-line and clothes-horse; and four single beds in the studio which can be accessed via a covered walkway.
We are surrounded by rainforest and in the morning you will hear many different birds, welcoming the day. There is a short walk to a water hole and creek, suitable for swimming. You may even be lucky enough to see a cassowary, wallaby, possum, python, or lizard! You will definitely meet our friendly dog, Snowy (and she loves taking people to the creek for a swim!)
This is a rural area, and a wet tropics rainforest area. You will need to be aware of animals, birds, farm vehicles, and changing weather - rain, mist, sun, we get the works!! It can also get quite chilly up here at night time, compared to Cairns.
  • Kirsten’s place was super cute and perfect for our much wanted stay in the rainforest! Kirsten was such a great host and we would definitely come back to stay again!!

  • Rustic cottage hidden away in a little rainforest paradise. Great value..would recommend to anyone!

    Kate2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect rainforest rustic. Feels like the heart of the jungle, incredible morning bird chorus, and a cozy cabin with beautiful polished floors. The kids loved sleeping in the adjoining cottage. My son said it felt like being in an explorer's cabin. Kirsten and Snowy the dog were great hosts.

    Ken2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, rustic, cozy little cottage hidden away in the rainforest and beautiful rolling hills of the tablelands.

    Dana2019-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Kirsten was really accommodating and friendly. The cottage is rustic but clean and super comfortable. Worth the trip down the track to this lovely oasis, and if you're a walker, proximity to Bartle Frere is a treat. Thanks again Kirsten.

    Michael2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in Kirsten's cottage! A real adventure in the rain forest !Kirsten and parents in law made sure we had everything .My kids had a big smile the whole day playing outside and playing with the dog and ask already when we can go back. No internet in the cottage was definitely a plus for our family !

    Veerle2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • We spent only one night at this wonderful hidden spot in the middle of the beautyful Tablelands, perfect to stay and to start trips in the surrunding area. We're sure to come back another time to stay longer and to explore more of this green paradise between the rolling hills. There was everything you need in the kitchen of the Cottage, comfortable beds, a clean toilet and a shower under the shed of the veranda, a coverd car port and an uncovered parking spot next to the cottage as well. Everythings was nice & tidy.

    Kristin2019-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • A little bit off the beaten track, but well worth the drive. The cottage and studio offered a comfortable and utterly charming place to stay, and an authentic country experience. We cooked dinner in a well-equipped kitchen, then fell asleep listening to a chorus of frogs and crickets, and enjoyed a bush walk to a water hole in the morning with our helpful canine host. The perfect place to arrive armed with some wine, some beautiful food, and a great book for the weekend.

Old Mates Pioneers Hut is on the Atherton Tablelands on a working farm. The farm runs cattle, goats, pigs, sheep, buffalo, chicken, ducks, horses and dogs. The farm is also a camping facility with trails for riding & walking. Outdoor fire (subject to conditions). Bike riding, horse riding, nature walks. Permanent running creek with refreshing swimming holes. Off grid 12 volt power system with battery storage. This runs lights, fridge, water pump, fans and USB ports for electronic devices.
This hut takes inspiration from the traditional "Shepherds Hut" of yesteryear. These were used by farmers to keep close to their herds and flocks and ensure their well being and keep predators at bay. The hut can sleep 4 people comfortably and another on the day bed if required. Very clean, and private shared toilet and spacious hot shower facilities ($2 coin per 6 minutes) within 20 meters. People love the "Loo with a View" looking out over the rain forest. There is a fridge, 2 burner gas cook top, sink with hot & cold water. Out side there is a gas BBQ, table, 4 chairs and esky/chill box. There is an outdoor fire place. Firewood $30 per 50kg. Mobile phone access is available on the property, but is weak in the Pioneers Hut.
  • Tony went out of his way to make our stay with our horses and smooth as possible. Great spot to ride your horses.

    Ursula2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Farm animals were a highlight but Old Mates Farm offers so much more for a experiential stay. Love the environment of the hillside forested property. Tony is a great builder, adds style to the barn, huts and amenities, cares for his property. Toilets were their own experience being ‘room with a view’. Kids enjoyed Pioneer Hut loft bunks, weighted pully door closer, barn games, bush walks, fire pit unaffected by rain. I appreciated the comfort and cleanliness of the hut and amenities.

    Simone2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We were so blessed to spend our Christmas tucked away in the trees at Old Mate's Farm. The Pioneer shack is small but by the same token, it was more than enough for our family of 4 (2A+2C). The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove (no oven, but there's a camp oven for the fire provided and a gas BBQ). It has one of the best camp shower + toilet I've ever used, complete with a flush toilet and hot water (at a cost of $2, but free if you can take the cold!!!) Due to the season, the creeks were a bit low for a swim and the cicadas on occasion were quite intense, but overall, these were minor issues for us. We only touched on the many tracks and hikes throughout the property as we were busy visiting the many delicious locations throughout the Tablelands but we will definitely return and explore more at a later date. There is a well-kept hobby farm at the entrance filled with well-loved horses, cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, guinea fowls, ducks and buffalo that we were able to take part in feeding. My 7+3yr olds loved it. It is clear to us that there has been a lot of passion and hard work put in to create this bushland retreat and we cannot wait to see what Tony will be putting in next. Thank you Pete and Deb for your hospitality too.

    Evie2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Hello Tony, we loved staying on your property and we are positive we saw a tree kangaroo up behind the toilet block (cool). Although we feed the animals on our first night my 16-year-old boy insisted we were back in time to do it again on our second night. My 17-year-old loved building the fire outside the hut.

    Michelle2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly worth a visit! The kids had an absolute ball feeding the animals and running around the farm. 100% will be bring the family back.

    Stevie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you need to get away from modern life this is perfect. Tony has done an amazing job setting this up. I’d much rather stay here than the cheapest hotel. Value for money, a great experience.
