Places to stay in Magdalena
Casa del Sol is a guest casita on an artist's property, offering a unique get away vacation spot. A tranquil sanctuary to relax and rejuvenate! If you love star gazing, some of the darkest skies and the brightest stars are right outside your bedroom door. We are close to the VLA, and a short drive to Bosque Del Apache wildlife sanctuary. Additionally, Casa del Sol is a great location for hiking, rock-hounding, or an artist's retreat.
Watching the sunset behind the mountains here is spectacular- we have incredible views! Grill outdoors and enjoy the handmade picnic table and benches. Guests are welcome to appreciate the outdoor fireplace. Relax on the glider bench, and revel at the stars- we have the darkest skies!
Casa del Sol is located on a quiet residential street, in a nice family neighborhood. It is approximately 7 blocks from Highway 60, the main road into the village of Magdalena.
  • Always feel very welcome and well taken care of here. I was happy to have the opportunity to bring my family with me for this visit.

  • One of the best places I have ever stayed! Beautiful inside and out. A true gem nestled in a charming village. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here!

  • This is a very cute space with many fun touches. Gwen was always available to answe any questions. And, we really liked Magdalena with its interesting history and friendly people.

  • We had a very enjoyable stay. The casita was clean, charming and cozy on the two cold nights we stayed there. It had a good feeling about it. The bed was super comfortable and the view from the bedroom was pretty spectacular. It’s location was just what we were looking for, a little remote but in easy driving distance, to and from Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife refuge which was what brought us to the area. We didn’t get to meet our host but she was always available and responded quickly to all our inquiries. We would definitely stay there again.

  • Gwen’s place is wonderful. My boyfriend and I visited with our dog and stayed 3 nights. The apartment itself is bigger than the photographs suggest and the space is really comfortable, cozy and arty. There’s a shared garden space which was great for our dog to explore. Gwen was an amazing host - she left treats for us and our dog and was really accommodating. I’m glad we had a chance to meet her and her gorgeous dogs! We had everything we needed in the kitchen, too. The location is great - very quiet, with a beautiful view. There’s a great coffee shop/printing shop within walking distance and you’re close to nice hikes and the VLA. Highly recommend staying here for a quiet getaway, whether you’re with someone else or traveling solo. We were sad to leave.

  • The most charming casita - inside and out! The place was incredibly clean, and Gwen has prepared the loveliest travel/activity recommendation guide. We only stayed for the night as we were passing through, but this place is the coziest getaway.

    Jaimie2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gwen's place was perfect for star gazing and relaxing. We had a lovely time.

    Stephanie2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Gwen is an artist and it shows in every aspect of her beautiful, original property. The casita is charming, comfortable and peaceful. Gwen has the little kitchen perfectly organized with everything you need to cook simple meals. She was easy to communicate with, thoughtful, and had many excellent recommendations for the area. We were there to see the Very Large (radio telescope) Array and the Bosque del Apache Wildlife refuge, and the casita is convenient drive to both. I'm so glad we stayed here. Highly recommended.

Casa Encantada Get ready for an experience, not a place to spend the night. Beautifully decorated with magical touches of artistic flair everywhere, prepare to be enchanted! Casa Encantada is located in the sleepy village of Magdalena, gateway to the stars. Deep black night skies show the star’s infinite glow. Close to the VLA, Bosque Del Apache, and so much BLM land for hiking and exploring New Mexico’s hidden beauty, you will want to stay for more than a day to see it all!
  • We had a wonderful stay. So peaceful and relaxing.

  • Great location to get away, and a very beautiful home. Lots of space for visiting. Love the patio! Thanks Gwen!

    Kelly2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • WOW. We want to move in here. The space itself is beautiful and cozy; we spent much of our time curled up on the comfy furniture, reading in front of the fireplace. The outside areas were lovely as well (it was cold when we were there though!). So quiet, so many stars. We cooked a meal and baked cake, everything we needed was in the kitchen. We'll be back, it was a dream!

    Jennifer2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Encantada is a large, charming house. There is a woodstove that warms the kitchen and dining area, and a gas fireplace that warms the living area. There is also a central furnace. Sunlight streams in through the many windows. Full kitchen, and washer and dryer (which we did not use). Several nice outdoor seating areas. You are in town, but can see the mountains. The neighborhood is residential and there appears to be a construction company across the street. There are several dogs in the neighborhood, but I always travel with earplugs, so they did not bother me. The shared backyard includes a beached houseboat (where Gwen was staying) and the second airbnb on the property, Casa de Sol. It was too cold for us to use the back yard area. There are private seating areas in the front yard. The back door, however, has a large glass window with no curtains. You still have privacy, but may want to be aware. The bed is extremely comfortable. There are ceiling fans in every room. No air conditioning, but you should not need it even in summer.

  • Gwen is a great host. Warm and cozy space.

  • This place had a lot to offer lotta amenities felt like home wish I had a little place like this of my own

    Jan2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • We were in the area to explore nearby Bosque del Apache - Gwen's place made a nice base to stargaze and get in some scenic morning drives along the way.

    Kathryn2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • I was looking for a place near Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge after driving from Albuquerque. Although a little drive, the drive to Gwen’s home was beautiful, and we got to experience an evening in real New Mexico. The sunset alone was worth it. Gwen’s home is spotless, and a treat for the eyes. The rustic beams, and artistic touches throughout. Every item in the home is artistic and intentional. The beds were comfy and Gwen had everything you could need. Gwen couldn’t have been nicer, and gave us great tips on where to find delicious fudge, and green chili burgers near the wildlife refuge. Thank you again Gwen for everything!

Come stay in the oldest house in town. The Blackburn/McTavish home is a historical landmark that was just redone inside to have a clean comfortable feel.
  • Kayla is a great host and has been great. I am here on a long business trip and her hospitality has given me the feeling that I am right at home.

  • Historical home close to many fascinating places! The home takes you back in time yet contains all of the modern amenities that you could ask for. The brilliance of the stars shines brightly on this charming, clean and cozy home. We had a very memorable and enjoyable stay and highly recommend staying here if you are considering a retreat to Magdalena, NM.

    David2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the house and the hostess. Don’t let the outside of the house deter. The inside is perfect. Be quite aware there is no place to dine in this town. We ended up buying a frozen pizza at the dollar store as there isn’t a grocery stores either. Kayla is swift to reply and the home itself is spacious and quaint.

The Casa Javelina is a hundred year old house moved to Magdalena in the 1920's from a silver mining ghost town 30 miles away. It has been renovated but retains a lot of character. Whole house rental, 2 Br, 1 Bath, 900 sq ft, 6500 ft elevation in town, 11,000 ft mountains a few miles away. Partially Solar Powered! Horse Friendly- adjoining horse pen in back.
This is a hundred year old Ghost Town House! Really! It was built at a Silver mine 30 miles from Magdalena and moved to its current location i the early 1900's. It has been renovated but remains vintage and eclectic. 2 BR, fully functional kitchen, full bath with tiled shower, about 900 sq ft. Comfortable and clean, definitely more funky than fancy. Fenced yard. Family friendly. DVD Player and a cool movie collection. Grid Tie solar too!
Magdalena is a town of about 1000 folks in the sunny mountains of Central New Mexico. We celebrate our Tri-cultural heritage in New Mexico. Lots of old Spanish families, Navajos from the nearby Alamo Navajo Res, Anglo ranchers from the country all around, and now artists and people who just prefer to live off the beaten track populate our town. People wave as we pass each other driving. Amazing area for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding. The Very Large Array Radio Telescope complex is just a few miles down the road. The Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge is 50 miles away. There are old mines and ghost towns to explore. The Cibola National Forest is all around Magdalena. Magdalena is also a gateway to the Gila National Forest and Wilderness. World class elk hunting, mule deer, 3 species of quail, wild turkey are all close for hunting guests. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are possible some winters. The owner knows the country very well.
  • This house is cute, comfortable, super clean, and it's fun to look around at the art and books. I loved the solidness of the floor in the kitchen and bathroom, those big beautiful tiles. I want to return and stay a long time in the peacefulness. Comfortable bed, even some snacks and drinks provided. We loved being there.

  • Very responsive host. Unfortunately I had to cancel due to illness and Omar was very accommodating.

    Vince2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Omar’s home is charming and clean with all the amenities and thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers from his garden. Centrally located and walking distance to all the cool spots in town. He’s an exceptional host. We hated to leave. We will stay with him again as soon as we can.

    Lisa2019-08-11T00:00:00Z

  • We had a delightful stay at Fritz’s lovely casita, which is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The main house is architecturally amazing and filled with artwork. You’ll be entertained by stories of local interest and enjoy delicious breakfasts.

    George2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a beautiful, well appointed and comfortable casita, great food, wine and local guidance, you cannot find a better place. A lovely place run by interesting, thoughtful and welcoming hosts. Will be making it our “must stay” place anytime we are in the area.

    Greg2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The space that was provided for us was stellar! A beautiful example of New Mexico architecture and style, the casita was a wonderful place nestled just outside Magdalena. The hosts were cordial and left some thoughtful touches for us. They also cooked breakfast the following morning. Just an amazing experience!

    Jeffrey2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The hospitality of Fritz and John was very warm, the scenary from the windows was very beautiful and all facility of the room was just perfect. The dinnar and breakfast were wonderful and they talked so friendly and kindly that we foreigners could understand and enjoy the conversation. This is one of the best B&B we have ever stayed.

    Makiko2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, fantastic hosts! The hosts are so generous with their time and knowledge of the area and make you feel like you've known each other for years.

    Barbara2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Donald's place was one of the best stays of our 10 days long New Mexico road trip. We spent a night here in order to visit VLA the next morning. VLA is just 20 mins away from here. Since the time we booked, Donald and John were always quick to respond to any of our questions. They even shared with us detailed itineraries for road trips around the area, good food places etc. The driving directions to the Casita were clearly given so we didn't have any issues finding the place. They welcomed us personally. The Casita was nice, super comfortable with lot of personal touches. The bed was comfortable. The homemade breakfast was delicious. We would have loved to stay here longer.

    Sucheta2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We booked our stay here as the location is very close to the VLA, it's within easy driving distance. Fritz and John are up there with the best hosts we've ever had the pleasure to meet through our many Airbnb stays! The accommodation is just gorgeous and very comfortable, quiet and thoughtfully designed. What raised this experience to another level was the warm welcome we received. We were invited to dinner at their private home on the property and enjoyed a delicious home cooked meal. We had a lovely breakfast with them the next day, great coffee! We also visited their gallery which is filled with lovely things! If you ever have an opportunity to stay here, don't miss it! We'll be back for sure!

The Airstream has a remodeled interior. We opened up the layout so it's much more spacious and comfortable. We also installed a full size shower and toilet. The camper has everything you need to have pleasant stay in San Antonio.
It's a great place for couples and individuals.
The camper is located a few blocks from the main eateries in the village. There's also a few walking paths nearby for a quiet stroll.
  • This is such an awesome place to stay. Just the excellent experience to stay in a place like this. I love what they have done to the airstream, it’s so cozy.

    Penny2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • fun place with a great location for visiting Bosque de Apache. We loved the DVD player, so you could bring a movie if you wanted. There were a few restaurants in walking distance, but they were all closed on a Sunday night.

    Edie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Airstream is an exceptional place to spend the night when visiting Bosque or even the VLA and the kitchen amenities and utensils provided belie the limitations of the space. Check in and check out were a breeze. I highly recommend this listing.

  • Eva’s airstream is a fun little place to stay along the interstate. Bonus points for proximity to Buckhorn and Owl Bar and ease of access in and out of the neighborhood. Simple and effective nightly rental.

Originally built in early 1900s, the Casita de Rancho Querencia, was acquired by the current owner in 1985, and he has renovated it twice, most recently in 2018. The main four-square part of house has 10-ft high pressed tin ceilings. The casita boasts a modern kitchen stocked with basic cooking essentials, and a nice sized clean bathroom with a clawfoot tub. There are two bedrooms with queen size beds and flatscreen TVs, and a separate sitting room. Pricing is based on # of beds used, below.
The large master bedroom has modern original artwork, while the guest bedroom and kitchen hit a more traditional country style decor.
If you are looking for coffee shops and window shopping, this is NOT the place. This IS the place, however, if you are looking for peace & quiet, and a place to escape and not be found, and witness the diverse cultures and almost "third-world" feel you only find in New Mexico. The casita sits in the middle of 2 acres of desert scrub, at the base of the alluvial fan of Polvadera Peak which rises 2,000 feet above the valley floor, and right across Polvadera Road are the farmlands of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. The irrigation ditch roads make for interesting walks or drives through the valley, and on the opposite side of the highway you see the Polvadera Peak and the range of the Lemitar Mountains with the 10,800 ft high Magdalena Mountains, and if ambitious you can explore San Lorenzo Canyon 6 miles to the NW (5 miles of which require a 4-wheel drive vehicle). Nearby are many interesting sites including the San Acacia Cemetery and Indian Hill for a view of the Rio Grande snaking south through the valley, NM Tech, Socorro, Bosque del Apache, Water Canyon in the Magdalena Mountains, the Village of Magdalena and the VLA, .... Oh my gosh there is a LOT of outdoor stuff to enjoy.
  • Amazing cottage with historical feel. Ideal location for quiet contemplation. We spent each evening on the porch swing watching the sunset over Polvadera mountain. 10 Minutes from Socorro for necessities. Comfortable, well appointed space.

    Jay2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was very pleasant, everything we needed was there. It's a quaint old adobe house that is very clean, and quiet. It is comfortable, close access to I-25, with a nice view of the Rio Grande valley, and beautiful sunrises. It's only 1/2 hour from Bosque del Apache, something everyone should experience at least once in their lives.

    David2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

Close proximity to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. This older adobe house has been re-modeled extensively. Surrounded by a high fence, you will have complete privacy. There is a front porch, enclosed back porch. Backyard area has enclosed fence for a dog(s). Parking is available under carport
Adobe house is quiet and peaceful. High fence makes it very private. A home away from home.
A quiet little town with mild year-round weather. However, we are host to some big attractions. Close proximity to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, Trinity Site, Very Large Array, Elephant Butte Lake to name a few. Famous local eateries include Owl Cafe and Buckhorn Tavern. Crane Cafe is also a place that has good Mexican food, and the San Antonio General Store has great ice cream, gas, gifts, sodas, etc. San Antonio is located on Highway 380 which leads to White Sands National Monument
  • Loretta was there to greet us and show us around. Jim’s place had great character and was very peaceful. I would highly recommend it if in the area.

  • A very clean, 2 BR house with every amenity and a kitchen fully stocked with dishware, appliances, etc. We loved the warm bread and fresh eggs from Loretta. The thick adobe walls keep the house very quiet. The location is ideal for visiting Bosque del Apache and other area sights.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Jim's Place. It was a quick trip to the Bosque Preserve for sunsets and sunrises, so great location for us. The night sky was amazing bright!!!! Loretta brought us bread which was wonderful. We will return!

    Kathleen2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough nice things about Loretta and her home! A big snowstorm made us have to cancel all of our plans for the day, and she was super sweet and accommodating in letting us check in early to get out of the snow. When we arrived, her husband was already there shoveling the pathway for us, and Loretta came by shortly after to go over everything we’d need to know. She also brought us fresh eggs from her chickens and homemade bread, which was all delicious and made for a great breakfast! The incredible Bosque del Apache is super close, and Buckhorn Tavern with their amazing green chile cheeseburgers was literally right down the road. The house doesn’t have cable or wi-fi, but is stocked with several boxes of a range of movies, and we had fun curling up with a bowl of popcorn and a movie on our snow day. Leading up to our check in, Loretta was quick and friendly with communication, and she was even sweeter in person. We hope to be back someday, but in the meantime we would absolutely recommend Loretta and Jesse’s home to other travelers!

Cozy casita, surrounded by farmland in the Rio Grand Valley. We are nestled between beautiful sunrise's over the mountains in the east and spectacular sunsets to the west. The night sky is fantastic. We are close to the RR tracks and do get a few trains thru daily. The whistle stop is .5 mile away and they do not seem very noisy and in fact they feel rather nostalgic. Thirty minutes from Bosque del Apache and Ladd S.Gordon Wildlife preserve. Experience the huge flocks of Cranes, white pelicans, and snow geese in late October and November. The birds tend to stick around til mid February. We are located ten minutes from the town of Socorro with several Restaurants, Brooks Supermarket and a Walmart. Socorro is home to the New Mexico Institute of Mining. They have a terrific mineral and gem display. There is also a golf course. This is a great stop on the way to Truth or Consequences or the Very Large Array. There is plenty of Parking, and we can accommodate trailers or RV's. Horse back riding and excursions into the high desert to see Pictographs, petroglyphs or rockhounding can be arranged with prior notice. There are several recreation areas located nearby, some require four wheel drive. Including San Lorenzo Canyon
  • If you are travelling to the Socorro area, Pam's casita is a great value. Close to everything you may want to do in a nice country setting.

    Tracy2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A nice clean space in a quiet neighborhood! I stayed at the casita while attending a conference in Socorro, and would stay here again.

    Ryan2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Casita Del Cranes. Great location for exploring the area!

    Johnette2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Pam's casita was spacious, clean and the perfect location between Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge and Bernardo Waterfowl Area, where we found the most cranes (and other birds) to photograph in late January. She was also a gracious host and easy to communicate with. I just hope someone technically savvy can get her place on Google Maps to make it much easier to find in the dark! Still, although the casita was in the middle of farmland, it was close to everything we needed for the week we stayed there.

    Cortney2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Pam's place is amazing! It's spacious, well equipped, it has the most comfortable bed I've encountered in an AirBnB (and this was about my 30th stay). Pam gave us lots of extra covers in case we were cold (which we weren't). It couldn't have been more comfortable. Plus Pam is extra helpful and friendly. She drove down to meet us so we found the place easily, she gave us birding tips and even invited us to stay with her in her AirBnb in Panama. Wow! We just might do that! And one final note--I was a bit concerned about the trains mentioned in the unit description. Yes, there was one train both evenings we were there, and they shook the ground--which was pretty amazing--but they didn't make very much noise, we didn't hear the whistle at all, and this was well before bedtime. So, no worries on the train! Thanks, Pam!

    Heidi2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a great location to go birding at Bosque and the surrounding areas.

    Rick2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • I was in Socorro on business but added on a day to so some birding at Bosque del Apache. Pam's place was perfect. It is a comfy, spacious and affordable option to the strip hotels in Socorro. Its a rural setting but close to everything. Hosts are welcoming, kind and ready to accommodate your needs. I would definitely stay again!

    Dale2020-01-04T00:00:00Z

  • This is a very comfortable place. If you like birding, this is a central location for a few of National Wildlife Refuge.

    Clive2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed a peaceful and pleasant stay. The space was beautiful and much larger than we expected.

  • We stayed Guy's place while we photograph migration sandhill crane at Bosque Del Apache wildlife refuge. The beds are comfy and bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is well equipped. The location is close enough so we can get to photograph location for early morning sunrise photos. I will recommend to other wildlife photographers.

  • This large house was in a great location for birding, hiking, and a very dark sky for a full night sky view. Very comfortable and a relaxing atmosphere. Safe and quiet neighborhood

  • We enjoyed our stay in Guy’s place! The accommodations are excellent for kids and parents who are traveling to sport tournaments in their local area. Place was very clean. My favorite part of the home was the stairs, look similar to the stair case in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe NM!

Plenty of floor in the living room for multiple cots/air mattresses (1 Queen air mattress provided). Non-smoking. Pets are welcome, fenced area in the back. • We really enjoyed our stay. The place was very sweet and reminded me of a visit to Grandma’s. If you want a modern setting this place may not be for you but if you appreciate a quaint, cozy setting and a little piece of history then you will enjoy it.

    Nessa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place! Cindi really helped us out too; my daughter forgot her stuffed animal when we left, and Cindi found it and mailed it to us that day. Wonderful host!

  • Great place everything I needed and more. Very clean and cozy.

    Clayton2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • This home is full of thoughtful touches and Cindi is very responsive to messages. The location is very close to all amenities and it’s a nice walk to NMT. Thanks for the hospitality.

  • This was my third stay in Cindi's Lone Pine Inn. Obviously, I like the place or I would not have returned again and again. She is so thoughtful and conscientious – very much cares for her guests.

    Susan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This little house is so cute! Cindi thinks of everything from toothbrushes and Band-aids just in case to cold drinks in the fridge and a small and large coffee pot as well as coffee AND creamer. There's a little dog kennel in back which would have been perfect if we had brought our pups along. Wonderful little house would absolutely go back.

    David2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cindi is an amazing host. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout home. Clean, safe, comfortable, quiet and spacious home. Great location for viewing the migration of sandhill cranes at nearby Bosque del Apache and the VLA. Highly recommend.

  • Another great stay at the Lone Pine Inn. Cindi surprised me with some delightful holiday decorations and lights on this stay in early December. Many thoughtful touches when you stay here including beverages in the fridge, snacks, and if you forget your toothbrush, she has you covered. I’m looking forward to my next stay.

Gorgeous studio apt overlooking Rio Grande Valley, 100yr-old restored adobe casa. Comfy nicely appointed interior, open floor plan, large kitchen, queen bed, and modern large bathroom.
Located in New Mexico’s middle Rio Grande Valley in Socorro county, only 1 hour south of Albuquerque, the vacation rental property provides easy access to lush farmlands watered by ancient irrigation ditches, and to the wildlife habitat associated with the farmlands and the Rio Grande bosque. Desert mesas, semi-arid rangelands, and 10,000 ft mountains border the valley. As a large second-floor studio apartment in one of the properties in the restored adobe village of Polvadera, this vacation rental property features a modern open floor plan to enjoy a relaxing stay away from home. The front of the studio includes an ample full kitchen, a nice dining area, and a cozy sitting area for lounging, visiting, or taking in a favorite movie. The back part of the studio includes a sleeping area with a comfy queen bed, a walk-in closet, and a huge South-America style bathroom with floor-to-ceiling ceramic tile, a bidet, and a rain-dome shower. The east side it opens to a large (8 x 28) balcony, with beautiful views of the valley farmlands and distant desert mesas, and guaranteed beautiful sunrises. The balcony is perfect for savoring your morning coffee, or grilling meats and enjoying a chilled beer or a glass of wine in the evenings.
Immediately east of the property is the irrigated farmland of the Middle Rio Grande Conservation District (MRGCD), Socorro division. Stretching from San Acacia a few miles to the north all the way to Bosque de Apache 20 miles to the south, the 20,000 acres of the Socorro Division are criss-crossed by a network of ancient irrigation ditches, or "acequias". One generally encounters elevated dirt roads along the banks of the acequias making them wonderful for lesiurely scenic explorations (on foot, bicycle, or car) just outside the guest house door.
  • This was the third trip my wife and I have made to see the Bosque del Apache wildlife reserve, and , as always, the Cranes Loft was perfect. Jim is the consummate host, exceedingly helpful and our stay was superb. It is impossible to overrate the accommodations. We hope to make a stop in Polvadera at the Cranes Loft a yearly occurrence. Thanks Jim!!

    Carl2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The crane's loft is a lovely apartment and beautifully decorated. We quite enjoyed our stay there and appreciated Jim's accommodations. Super comfy bed!

    Rita & Chris2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, comfortable place.

    Teresa2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s place is an amazing studio loft just north of Socorro. It’s custom built to a higher quality standard than the area and I’ll be trying to rebook on future visits!

    Kirk2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This gem is conveniently situated for exploring Bosque del Apache and surrounding areas for watching wildlife. We were attending the annual Festival of Cranes there. We enjoyed the view of neighboring farm fields and the sound of Sandhill Cranes flying to and from their feeding areas. The Crane Loft is indeed a "loft", and visitors should understand that it requires ascending a flight of outdoor stairs to the deck/porch of the apartment. Just be aware if you are bringing heavy luggage or visiting when stairs could be slippery. We didn't mind this except one morning the frost on the steps required caution. The apartment is sparkling clean, full of beautiful natural light and amazing art. The bed is very comfortable, full kitchen nicely equipped, and impressive, roomy bathroom with tiled shower. The apartment is a recent and very upscale renovation of an old home in traditional New Mexico style. Jim saved several of these homes from destruction. His work is a huge asset to this little community. Food and other businesses can be found in nearby Socorro or at the Phillips 66 truck stop near Lemiter. This was our first Airbnb experience, and a good one!

    Mary2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great layout, nice porch to watch sunrise, great night sky on clear nights. Great place to unplug (if you want to). Host is quick to communicate. I will be back.

    Andrea2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right outside of Socorro. Quiet at night with a view of so many stars! Very comfortable bed, huge bathroom, plenty of hot water, very well equipped spacious kitchen and bathroom. You won’t be disappointed! Thank you, Jim!

    Sara2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s place is easy to find with a nice parking area. If you’re staying for a longer period of time keep in mind you’ll have to carry all your things up and down and flight of stairs. The place is clean and has a “lived in” feel. I really appreciated the washer and dryer in unit. The kitchen is spacious and has a dishwasher to make life easier. The bathroom is also spacious and nice. Nice alternative to a hotel room for longer stays. The porch has a lovely view and sitting out in the morning or evening with tea or coffee is peaceful and serene.

  • The house was wonderful! It was close to the downtown area and easily accessible. Michelle had all the little touches to help make my stay comfortable. I enjoyed having a place to go to where I could recover from my day and relax. The name is completely accurate: Modern Oasis.

  • Michelle has a great little place. The best thing about my stay was her responsiveness and communication. It's a quiet neighborhood. The house itself is really nice with a backyard. We had a great stay.

    Rafia2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Michelle was a great host. She has a cute and updated casita that is easy to find and comfortable. Extra touches like the snacks and teas were sweet.

    Whitney2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, and the host was extremely responsive at every stage of our reservation, including our greatly delayed flight into Albuquerque. It was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's a little hard to find at dark, so arrive during daylight hours if you can. We were gone all day every day photographing at Bosque del Apache, but it suited our needs quite well.

    Christal2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • This house is small but very well laid out and appointed. I needed to use the kitchen for actual cooking and I had the utensils and pans I needed. Very nice stove and refrigerator. Super clean and warm (it was winter). Host was very responsive to questions. Would stay again!

Count the stars and listen to the coyotes howl at night! This neighborhood is quiet and rural.
  • We used this comfy, roomy space to be our base for birding around the Socorro area. We enjoyed the quiet, Sharon's quick response to any questions and the well-stocked kitchen. Thanks for thinking of items to make this a great place to stay.

    Pat2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very nice space. Very clean. Decorated to fit the fall season, which was a nice touch. Sharon was very welcoming. I didn't get a chance to meet Syd...maybe next time!

    Teri2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • If you would like to feel like home away from home, this is exactly place to stay! This i can definitely say because i came back there again. I highly appreciate Sharon and Syd for hospitality and support during my stay in this “little escape”. This is an ideal place for 1-2 people fully equipped and convenient if you want to get some rest from the daily routine. Sharon&Syd, i wish you success in this enterprise. giving my warmest regards to your wonderful horses! Next time i’m here we will ride them both! :)

    Julia2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is wonderful place to stay. Wether you’re in the area birding, or just passing by. It’s conveniently located near the highway. If you want to be close to wildlife management areas that are north of Socorro this a great place to stay. Most hotels in Socorro don’t offer a kitchen and grill. It’s the best bang for the buck with great hospitality. Would stay again and recommend to anyone.

  • Sharon and Syd’s RV is a surprisingly lovely place to stay and Sharon and Syd are lovely people. Warm and very hospitable, they brought us a jug of iced tea and water bottles. The RV is very high end, spacious and comfortable with two tv’s!! Would definitely stay there again.

    Peter2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Easy to find location. Quiet and peaceful. Amazing hospitality! Fresh eggs were nice touch!

    Deborah2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Sharon & Syd's place. They offered us amazing hospitality. The RV was sparkling clean and beyond comfortable - best mattress I think I've ever slept on! Fresh eggs were waiting in the refrigerator. Sharon lent us playing cards for an evening in and offered an umbrella when she heard we'd be spending a sunny afternoon fishing at Elephant Butte. If anything went wrong, she was quick to respond. And, best of all, we enjoyed our friendly chats. We expected a great experience from our Super Host - and got an even better one.

This light and bright ranch-style house sits on 25 acres with the Rio Grande as the western boundary. It is a great location for wildlife observations, hiking, stargazing, and general exploring of miles of adjacent public lands. Bosque del Apache NWR is about 20 minutes south, San Antonio is nearby, and Socorro is 20 minutes north for shopping and entertainment. Birding is great here and we provide checklists and field guides. It's quiet and peaceful with plenty of room to spread out.
At 2000 square feet the house has two bedrooms (one with a queen and a second with two twin beds), 2 baths, living and dining, a sunroom (with a double futon), a fully equipped kitchen, and lots of storage space. There are front and back patios, a carport, and a fenced-in yard. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
The neighborhood is rural and there are a few other houses within sight, but they are spread out so that there is a lot of privacy without isolation. A recent guest described the drive along Bosquecito Road as “authentically New Mexico True.” In nearby San Antonio are two famous restaurants specializing in green chile cheeseburgers and a good Mexican restaurant. Please note that the closest place for grocery shopping is Socorro, 20 minutes away.
  • Great quiet retreat with stars that stretched across the night sky!!! Slept well on a nice queen mattress (didn't use the twins). Hot showers. Well equipped kitchen. Coffee and tea were much appreciated. 25 mins to Bosque del Apache.

  • This place was the perfect weekend getaway spot for us and our dogs, we absolutely loved it! The location is perfect, quiet and close to river. We had so much fun exploring the property and feeling like we were completely isolated. Such a dog friendly place too. The fencing was secure and they loved sniffing every corner! The home was spotless and we LOVED the sunroom attachment. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need and the decor was great as well. We slept like babies in the super comfortable bed and feel fully refreshed for the week ahead. Thanks so much for having us, definitely one of the best Airbnb experiences we’ve ever had!

  • We loved our stay! The house is comfortable and has everything you need. I especially loved the kitchen and the little extras like bird seed for the backyard, a yoga mat in the sunroom, interesting books, and local info. We loved being able to walk down to the river. Our dog loved running around the fenced yard. It is a wonderfully quiet area with spectacular sunrises and so many stars at night. It's a wonderful place for nature lovers, bird watchers, or those who just want a quiet retreat. Miss it already and hope to return.

Located on 20 acres in rural New Mexico, only 15 minutes from Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge. Resting on the banks of the Rio Grande River, the property abounds with its own wildlife---owls, turkeys, hawks, and deer as well as beautiful native plants. With no neighbors nearby, you can enjoy the beautiful night sky. We're not real fancy, but we're clean, comfortable and quiet!
  • Quiet and nice

  • This is such a lovely retreat from the busy world. It is a great house with super comfortable beds and bedding. Many wonderful hours on the screened in deck and hiking around the acreage. We will definitely be back for our 6th visit!

  • This comfortable, well-appointed home in its exceptionally peaceful, rural setting is exactly as described. If you are coming to bird The Bosque, this is your place to stay. Matthew and Stephani are great hosts and kindly went above and beyond when we had a flat tire. Many Thanks!

  • The "Little House" is actually quite big!! A full-sized, 3 BR, 2 BA home, with full (and fully equipped) kitchen, clean, quiet and cozy. Such a relaxing place to spend time, yet convenient to the Bosque del Apache and surrounding beautiful natural areas. Hosts were great at communication, and left us many tasty breakfast items for our stay. Highly recommend!

  • This is a very clean, quiet and comfortable home close to Bosque del Apache and other New Mexico attractions. We thought it was a great value with everything provided by the hosts and hope to stay again when we travel to that area. It is one of the best winter birding areas in the country for sandhill cranes, migrating waterfowl and bald eagles.

  • If you like privacy, cleanliness and nature, this is your place. Expect extra hospitality and an easy comfortable stay that is like home away from home! Super clean, not big luxury, but I hope no one visits this beautiful area to sit in their rental all day! But it definitely is cozy enough to be rained in for a day! :)

  • Wonder place down on the Bosque. Excellent base for exploring Bosque del Apache, Cibola Nat Forrest and plenty more.

    Kenneth2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The house is warm and comfortable, set in a natural environment and close to Bosque de Apache. The hosts are very responsive and we would definitely go back next time we are in NM.

  • A perfect stay! Communication from the first response was a 10+, great directions, a perfect hostess, lovely home, extremely comfortable bed (loved the heating pad in bed, each side had their own controls), spotlessly clean, amazing breakfast and loved seeing all the cranes land all around the lovely B&B!

  • Our stay at SusanLily’s Airbnb was incredible. Great location, wonderful food, amazing opportunity to see cranes up close. And SusanLily is the consummate hostess and an absolute joy to interact with. We plan to go back!

  • Lovely location and very nice hospitality and accommodations. Learning about and seeing some cranes was a real plus.

  • Cannot recommend Cranehaven enough! I've stayed at a a fair number of AirBnbs over the last 7 years, but this honestly has been my favorite. Susanlily and Rick are exceedingly kind and gracious hosts, with a beautiful and peaceful home in the desert. The bathroom is huge, spacious, and clean; the bedroom is cozy and comfortable. Susanlily set us up with all the amenities that we would need. But the main difference between this and any of the other nice homes we've stayed in is the personal touch. We spent a lot of time talking with Susanlily and Rick, who are lovely people, very thoughtful. They've created a calm refuge, an excellent place to stop and stay for a while. Of course, the main drawing for us was the cranes, who we were headed to see at the Bosque. It was wonderful to hear about the history of the cranes visiting this property and to learn about crane behavior, but it was even more cool to witness them all over the place. I was indecisive about joining the feeding because we'd planned to go to the Bosque at sunrise, but ultimately decided to join Susanlily, and I'm so glad I did. It was incredible to watch these creatures fly overhead, observing us, and then start to circle and land as we hurried to finish putting the food out. It was much more up close and personal than at the Bosque. And then we sat back and watched cranes for days. (Not literally, were only there for one night. But the cranes come in droves.) Crane-feeding was a joyful adventure, and then we ate our breakfasts and watched the cranes eat theirs. And if you can, don't forget to leave a donation to support feeding these cranes! I would come back here, and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Susanlily's home is a beautiful, peaceful retreat - a bit tricky to get to, but definitely worth it. We were enchanted by the setting. The really wonderful part was that we were welcomed as friends, with the kinds of thoughtful, personal touches that you don't expect, but very much appreciate - like a glass of iced tea in the shade upon arrival and fresh fruit for the road. Breakfast was delicious. And although we weren't there at the right time for the namesake cranes, we did see plenty of great New Mexico birds on the expansive property.

  • This house was wonderfully cozy and quiet. Absolute peace! The food was incredible and the company, if you wish to learn about your hosts, was welcomed and so enjoyable. The history of the home and the land is fun! The bedroom was comfortable and had everything I needed. The bathroom was spacious and also had everything needed. I would certainly choose to stay here over any hotel in the Socorro area. Truly a genuine and caring home.

  • What a fantastic stay! The home is wonderful; very roomy with a great decor and a great outdoor area to hang out in. During my time in New Mexico I found the people to be outstandingly friendly, and Susan was no exception. We were getting in much later than we originally expected, but Susan was easy to contact to make sure we could make it to the house that night. When she realized we were skipping dinner to make it by 9:00, she even shared her and her husband's dinner with us to make sure we were comfortable. We ended up spending quite a bit of time sharing stories with her during our stay, and was a very interesting, delightful, and memorable highlight to our overall road trip. Hospitality was top notch. I hope to make it back to this bnb when the Sandhill Cranes come through!
