  • We spent a lovely weekend here in this fab property. Jan was friendly and very welcoming and had provided everything we could need including many thoughtful touches like fresh flowers and fruit. It's a lovely quiet and cosy place to stay and is much roomier than the pictures show. We'd definitely recommend and would return again.

This is a single room with private en-suite sink and toilet but next door to a shared shower-room. It is on the ground floor close to the exit door and the kitchen. There is a ramp to this exit door for easy access.
We are a varied household with a range of ages and people from various walks of life. Visitors say the house has 'happy vibes'! The outlook of the room is pleasant especially across the grass. We do our best to keep the patio clear of weeds but they love living here too.
This is a great area for visiting all around. There are a number of places of special interest and some lovely little villages. We are lucky to a have a great pub for meals in walking distance.
  • A very friendly host who makes you feel very welcome.

  • Lindsey's house and gardens are lovely. I was made very welcome in an attentive but unobtrusive way. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean and it was so nice to have an en suite toilet and wash basin. Delicious homemade preserves were on offer at breakfast time - I loved the green tomato and ginger jam.

    Annie2019-07-19T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed at the Cowshed from 24th December until the 28th December 2019. When I contacted Jan, the host, to check availability, she replied so quickly and this was the same for every point of communication leading up to our stay. Just before our visit, Jan emailed great directions and they even had a beacon flashing outside the gate, so we knew we had arrived. Not only was the Cowshed extremely clean and lovely, but Jan had put up Christmas decorations and also fairy lights, which was such a welcome site and put us in the festive spirit. In addition, there was a wonderful hamper with fizz, cheeses, oat cakes, biscuits and mince pies, etc. It was a lovely touch. The kitchen and bathroom were so clean and decorated to a high standard. The lights in the bathroom and walk-in shower came on automatically, and the other lights had dimmer switches. The beds were so comfortable and the wardrobes had plenty of hangers and there were chests of drawers too. The under floor heating made it extremely cosy, and the facilities were just perfect. There was an uninterrupted viewfrom every window, we could see the chickens roaming in the paddock and the sheep grazing in the field. For a visit in the summer I noticed plenty of garden furniture and a bbq. We really recommend the Cowshed as a lovely place to stay, and we will be visiting again, soon. Marcelle and Peggy

  • Great place, would stay again!

    Robert2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Cowstall is an amazingly comfortable place to stay with everything you could possibly need. The beds are extremely comfortable with lovely bedding - the towels were thick and large which we loved! The kitchen is well equipped with good quality equipment - having a recycling system was useful to have too. There is a washing machine and dryer across the yard and a hanging area to dry clothes if you don’t want to use the dryer. It was great to see the chickens grazing in the paddock outside the Cowstall - they come running up to the fence when they see you standing there, then quickly lose interest when they realise you don’t have any food for them and that you only want to take photos! Jan had left flowers, fruit, biscuits and milk for us which was a very thoughtful touch, thank you. We would definitely recommend the Cowstall - it is a short drive away from lots of attractions that Somerset has to offer. Would love to come stay again in the future.

    Katie2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jan's place is a wonderful, tranquil, well put together place to stay for couples of a family. We loved waking up and watching the chickens going out from our window and sitting comfortably with a cup of tea watching the beautiful morning view. The children loved running around in the yard and garden and having a comfortable to themselves. We were close to lots of lovely places - we need more time and want to come back!

    Rebecca2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jan place is fabulous. Stylish, warm and many thoughtful touches. The beds the sofas all very comfortable. Jan has made her olace look and feel special and homely.

    Debbie2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jan was very helpful leading up to the trip. She was very quick to reply to questions . Great place for children

    Cressida2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Cowstall is even more cosy and comfortable than it looks. This comfort is added to by how friendly, helpful and welcoming Jan and Paul are. Our children loved the outdoor space and the chickens, dogs, sheep, swings and outdoor toys. This was a beautiful base in a lovely party of the UK. We will be back. Thank you!

    Chrissy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay if you want to explore Somerset. Jilly was the perfect host who's attention to detail is second to none! The barn was immaculately clean with everything you could wish for on hand. The location is perfect for getting away from it all yet close enough to explore all of what somerset has to offer. Jilly was a first class communicator and made our journey there and our day trips easy with her local knowledge. We are counting the days to when we can stay again.

The accommodation is a self-contained annex decorated in vintage style. It includes a chunky pine double bed, pine bunk beds, sofa, games chest, Sky TV, wifi, bathroom (with bath and shower) and a well equipped kitchen with dining table. It fits up to 2 adults, 2 children and a baby. Travel cot, highchair, toys and bedding provided. Between 9-10am (Spring and Summer) daily, we can take you on a tour of our idyllic smallholding where you can feed and pet the sheep and feed and water our pigs.
Although this is listed as 1 bedroom, the bunk beds and double beds are in separate areas divided by a curtain. The TV is in the same area as the bunk beds. This may not be ideal if you’re planning to watch TV after the kids go to bed. It is great in the morning though if you fancy a lie-in!! The accommodation is clean and has been designed as a short term holiday let. It is light and airy by day and cosy by night. It includes every essential but with personality. We want everyone to enjoy their stay, learn more about animals and farming and return home as a friend, not a guest. This accommodation works best when used as a base to explore the lovely local area rather than as somewhere to stay indoors 24/7 particularly if it's fully occupied. The accommodation is designed to be quirky, comfortable and functional. We endeavour to clean and maintain everything to the best of our abilities and we do not charge for cleaning like many other hosts do. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that represents great value and will leave you with a wonderful set of memories, then we’re the place you’re looking for!
We have heaps of places to see, shop at, eat in and generally people watch all within 10-15 minutes drive. Our village has a small farm shop selling essentials or a host of supermarkets can be found in Glastonbury and Street. Our village is particularly beautiful and offers the opportunity to relax, walk, cycle, birdwatch and just enjoy the countryside! We provide a local paper so you can find what's on while you're here. Glastonbury has a beautiful Abbey, the newly transformed Rural Life Museum, wonderful cafes, quirky shops and of course the Tor. Wookey Hole Caves is a favourite for families. Longleat Safari Park and Bristol Zoo are essential if you love animals. If you're into boys toys then head to Haynes Motor Museum or the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Clarks Village Outlet Village is a dream destination for shoppers. If beautiful scenery are more your thing then head to Cheddar Gorge or Stourhead. If you like a bit of history and culture Wells and Bath are both within an hours drive, are stunning and have great shops too.
  • Ideally positioned for Glastonbury. Warm, clean and cosy. Would highly recommend. Would definitely go back. Thanks Libby and family.

We share this lovely old vicarage with friends who add to the welcome of the house and large garden. We are renovating so there is always something going on though we try to keep it out of the way of guests! The garden is somewhat wild, we do try to keep the weeds under control but they like it here too. There is plenty of parking and we are close to A37, A303, Shepton Mallet Showground, Castle Cary train station all within 10 miles
This is a room that is virtually all bed! There are hooks for hanging the suit and the party dress. Just about space to open your case and comfortable huge bed. There is a toilet and sink en-suite and a shared shower room along the corridor.
It is lovely countryside with just the right hills and levels for cyclists! There is a pub just up the road which serves very good meals and more eating places further afield.
  • Lindsey's place was great. The room was as described, simple and clean. It was lovely to have a chat over breakfast. The house felt very comfortable and welcoming. • A wonderfully stylish space, airy and light. Everything was of the highest standard and the hospitality provided by Alison was exceptional. The location was calm and tranquil and close to Glastonbury and its many sights. It was great to have a fully equipped kitchen area in which to prepare meals alongside a separate dining area and breakfast bar. In the evening we were able to chill-out on the spacious and comfortable sofa in-front of a large TV. The bedroom was amazingly comfortable, relaxing and stylish. This is accommodation of the highest standard and we will most certainly be making a return visit when in the area again.

    Robert2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • When we first arrived the only words out of our mouths was WOW. Alsions annexe has this in bucket fulls. It is spacious and homely. Attached to the house but with plenty of privacy. Alison on hand if you need anything. Cooking facilities if you need them. The bed is soooo comfy. The shower is to die for. I didnt want to come out of the shower. We loved our stay and would recomend to everyone. Lots of little touches that make it home from home.

Barton Saint David is a beautiful village near to Glastonbury. It is approximately ten minutes by car. The house is situated next to open fields and is quiet and dark at night with no street lighting. There are lots of birds and wildlife around and a big private garden at the rear to enjoy them. If you are looking for a sanctuary space to unwind then this is perfect for you. I work as a Holistic Therapist and have lived here for 4 years. In the Glastonbury Zodiac this is the Libra part ~ peace
This is a detached house on the edge of a rural village. There are lots of crystals and esoteric books. It is full of light with lots of plants. I love colour and comfort and my home reflects this. I offer a variety of holistic therapies. I can do Astrology and Mayan Calendar readings if you seek to expand your awareness. Please message me for more info. I have lots of knowledge about local places to visit and sacred sites. I can recommend other therapists locally too.
The house is detached at the beginning of a cul de sac and opposite the park . There are lots of lovely walks close by. The National Trust house Lytes Cary is a 10 minute drive. Clarke's shopping outlet is 10 minutes drive at Street. Bath and Bristol are within an hour by car.

  • Had a great stay in this cosy place. Good location to visit the local area. Spotlessly clean. Very relaxing. Cheryl is a great host too. Looking forward to a return visit !

  • We really enjoyed our stay in the Summer House, it was lovely and cosy and had everything we needed for a weekend away. Cheryl was an excellent host and made checking in very easy. We walked to the local pub for a drink and it was very friendly, with a lovely big fireplace. Great location for exploring some stunning countryside.

  • Ideal country accommodation, excellently presented, perfectly equipped, near to all amenities and run by a wonderful person. From the moment of booking everything was taken care of; Cheryl was thoughtful enough to provide a photo of the turning into the lane through which the premises are located. I arrived before dark to ensure that I would find it without a hitch although in hindsight it is easy to find. Upon arrival I was greeted by Cheryl in the more than ample parking area and shown to the accommodation - a large, well insulated summerhouse situated to the rear of the house in the paddock. I was shown around and familiarised with the layout and facilities. I was then left to my own devices although I enjoyed several conversations with Cheryl as and when our paths crossed (I was staying for work so out early and returning in the evening). The accommodation is excellent; more than spacious enough for a couple, excellently equipped and very characterful - A home from home. Although only just off the main road it feels as though you are located in a more remote setting - very peaceful and quiet. Cheryl was kind enough to provide all the essentials for breakfast and this was the icing on the cake for me. I would like to return later in the year to enjoy the peace and see the garden/ paddock in bloom. There is really no scope for improvement. Highly recommended and superb value for money.

  • Cheryl is an outstanding host, she was so warm and welcoming from the first message sent upon booking to checkout. This place is an absolute gem, I highly recommend it especially if you are looking for a restful trip. Beautiful gardens and friendly dogs. Sparkling clean accommodation and so peaceful. Just outside of Glastonbury, in a great location to explore the local area. There are also some lovely walk around the area to enjoy as well. Already looking forward to another stay later on in the year. Thanks again Cheryl!

  • Cheryl is a really lovely host She explained about heating and water etc. The summerhouse was lovely, clean, warm and cosy, everything you need was in there. Perfect for what we wanted. Easy to find with Cheryl’s directions. Very close to Glastonbury, 30 mins from Cheddar Gorge. Well worth the money and hope to stay again one day.

Birch is a quirky 300 year old cottage. She’s packed full of original features. Birch is perfectly placed for exploring all that Somerset has to offer. Wells, Glastonbury, Street and the Mendips are all within 30 minutes drive. The city of Bath is only an hours drive.
    Birch Cottage is all yours!
Butleigh itself is very quiet. Chances are during the day you’ll hear more horses hooves up the high Street than cars. We are though 5 minutes from Glastonbury and Clarke’s Village in Street. The City of Wells is also an easy 15 minute drive. If it’s walking you’re after you’ll have no problem finding some beautiful hikes.
  • Lovely little cottage in a peaceful village, nice and easy to get to Glastonbury and Street to explore the local areas.

  • Lovely little cottage in a lovely village :-)

    Jade2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is 300 hundred years old and the interior reflects this so if modern and sparkling is you’re thing then this isn’t for you. I found the style charming and the log fire was excellent, even in June, because the cottage has very thick stone walls so was cool. We couldn’t find the cottage and had to ask in the post office/shop, who were brilliantly helpful and well stocked. The local pub is worth a visit with good ale and decent pub food, as is the tea room.

The studio is a single-story conversion of an old stable situated in its own garden with panoramic views. The accommodation comprises of a large open-plan lounge/dining, bedroom (all with views), separate shower room, separate fully equipped galley kitchen. The property is heated and the bedroom area has a King size bed complete with a dual electric blanket for that extra comfort.
Suitable for a couple seeking a quiet central location from which to explore the area or parents visiting their children boarding at Millfield, Hazlegrove or All Hallows schools. The studio is very private, situated some distance from the main house and has amazing views of the local countryside and the Mendip Hills. It offers self-catering accommodation and is completely equipped to a high standard. The total space including the Garden Room is approximately 55 square metres. PLEASE NOTE: There is a washing machine which is only available to guests who stay for a minimum duration of four nights . We are sorry but we do not cater for children.
We are central to some great locations. Locally there is the Quarry Inn which is 100 metres down the High Street, as is the local shop. We are also only 5 miles from the small town of Somerton, which lays claim to being the ancient capital of Wessex. We are approximately 6 miles from Clarks Village and the town of Glastonbury, 9 miles from the Historic Cathedral town of Wells and 8 miles from the Somerset Levels which has an abundance of bird life including a Crane Project. Other places of interest nearby may be the Haynes Motor Museum (which has a good restaurant), and Yeovilton Aircraft Museum. We are also only 50/60 minutes from Lyme Regis. The towns of Sherborne and Shaftesbury are a 35 and 50 minute drive away. There are some excellent local walks in the area and we are within easy reach of the Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip Hills (which can be seen from The Studio).
  • The studio is a very restful and homely place to stay. Great to walk through the garden on the way to the studio, it must be lovely in summer but was very cosy for me in winter.

  • We only had a couple of nights in this extraordinary secluded haven, everything super-clean and comfortable, and we could have done with a longer stay. Our lovely hosts, Mike and Pam, were right there when we arrived, ready with a little trolley to wheel our bags down the garden path past beautiful flower and vegetable beds to the studio. We were very cosy - crazy that we needed some heat in the middle of this cold wet June. Comfortable large bed, good wifi, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The pub a couple of minutes away had nice beer and good un-fancy food. We spent our days visiting National Trust properties. This would be a good place to do some uninterrupted writing or sewing!

    Sarah2019-06-15T00:00:00Z

  • Great location, can walk to local pub and shop, complete privacy as the studio is located at the end of their very long garden and overlooking a field. Warm and cozy (as my stay was in February) with heating, fireplace, spare heater and heated under blanket. Very comfortable bed with cosy duvet and decent pillows. Kitchen was better stocked than my own home. Plenty of books and dvds to enjoy. The hosts were very welcoming. Best night’s sleep and a lovely hot shower. Would definitely stay there again.

  • We had a lovely overnight stay here after a wedding in the area. Emma was a wonderful host, really helpful with check-in timings after a stressful journey, and the cottage was the perfect little retreat on a bitterly cold November night. One of the comfiest beds we've slept in in ages! And a breakfast tray in the morning was a lovely touch. Thank you for having us, definitely recommended!

  • We stayed here for one night and really enjoyed our stay. The property is very clean and well presented. We enjoyed the amazing view and surroundings. The hosts are very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend staying at this property. Thanks again to the hosts for a lovely stay.

  • A lovely little cottage, mega comfy bed, perfect for a cosy night away in the country and about 20 mins into Glastonbury.

  • Lovely cottage and great location for Pennard House weddings. Lots of thoughtful touches and a great breakfast in the morning!

    Chris2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Emma made us feel at home in her exquisite country environment and provided a lovely breakfast. We loved the decor, how immaculately clean and private the apartment was and the extremely comfortable bed and duvet. It is a perfect place to escape the city, to enjoy the countryside and was close to our destination which was Glastonbury. We recommend getting there in daylight as it is situated down a country lane. A great retreat, very quiet and the social space is conversational, not dominated by a TV set or any other form of media. We enjoyed our stay and would have loved to have extended it.

    Lori2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Emma's place is comfortable and relaxing, and very quiet. We saw a barn owl at dusk and then heard it again later - beautiful.

Large, tastefully decorated en-suite room with king size bed/quality bed linen. Self contained with TV, desk space and sofa. To allow for your privacy we provide basic breakfast items for your stay without disturbing you each morning. The picturesque centre of Castle Cary is a few minutes walk away. Ideal for a couple, but the sofa bed could accommodate a child, please enquire and see space details. Please DO NOT Instant Book if attending Bath Showground / Glastonbury events, see space details.
This luxury room which is newly decorated forms part of our house but is self contained with its own entrance. Just a few minutes walk from the delightful town centre. Visit the historic market house, the thriving Tuesday local market or the vintage market run once a month. You are near to Bruton where the Hauser and Wirth gallery is found, together with noted restaurants, and nearby is the newly opened visitor attraction - 'The Newt'. A little further afield you are spoilt for choice of National Trust properties as well as Glastonbury, Wells, Bath, Street for Clark’s shopping village, and Shepton Mallet for the Kilver Court designer village and garden, or a visit to the notable prison. IMPORTANT NOTE: While we are not far from Bath Showground and Glastonbury we do not take bookings for late / overnight events. This is due to the fact that we are not aware of any local taxi services that are available for such events and it is about a 5 mile walk from the Showground down busy country roads with no pavement. We appreciate that bus services are sometimes shown as offered to and from the station but these never seem to run to suit the time people want to return. Having brought up our own children we no longer wish to have the worry of young adults not getting back, or having to act as a taxi service for people at such events. No cleaning charges applied. Tea / coffee / basic breakfast items provided Coffee machine Mini fridge We have a no smoking policy We request that guests remove shoes when entering. £10 additional charge per night for child using sofa bed (enquire first please using ‘contact host’ no instant booking for this).
All around the area is beautiful countryside. Opposite the property is an open area for walking with some exercise equipment if feeling energetic. Beside the property is the sports field which you wander across on the path to get into town. There are places to eat in town, as well as takeaways, and some excellent pubs and restaurants not too far distant including renowned restaurants in Bruton.
  • Clean, homely and very comfortable. We stayed with our 1 year old and she had a terrific nights sleep! As did we! Very peaceful and definitely recommended. Thanks!

This two bedroom period house has been recently refurbished. It has en suite toilets to both bedrooms and a downstairs bathroom with separate bath and shower. There are two living rooms and a large fitted kitchen. There is no garden but a small outside sitting area. The house is two minutes walk of our local pub which provides good value food and drink. Castle Cary's attractive town centre with its many historic buildings is an eight minute walk. Street parking with no restrictions .

Lovely, cosy cottage. Peaceful village in a great location. Great for site seeing or quiet retreats. On a public footpath, many local and long distance walks to choose from. Close to Sherborne, Yeovil, Frome, Bath, Glastonbury, Street Shopping Village and the great Jurassic Coast. There is an indoor heated pool that's available to book in advance or on arrival at a cost of £4.50 per person per hour.
Owl Cottage is a delightful and cosy 17th Century character cottage. It has a front garden with lawns and mixed flower borders, with ample space for car parking, and a newly refurbished kitchen and bathroom. Raven Cottage next door can also be rented to accommodate larger groups. Electricity, heating, bedding and linens, towels, tea towels and washing up liquid are all provided. There is currently no TV or Wifi access.
Owl Cottage is in the small village of Queen Camel, about a mile from the A303. It has a well-supplied local shop with ATM, pub and unique Pottery. It is owned by the Retreat Centre at the end of Laurel Lane which is a UK Registered Charity. The Centre consists of a 17th Century house with its surrounding buildings and spacious grounds, including beautiful landscaped gardens and an indoor heated therapy pool. The gardens would be available for you to enjoy for quiet reflection and relaxation, and the indoor heated swimming pool can also be hired by the hour.

We also really loved the area as there are so many great places nearby - we only spent a weekend there but would love to come back for a week or so. Betsy is an established holiday let with over 5 years of bookings. Betsy is a Grade II listed cottage and the epitome of tranquillity and romance. Betsy Cottage is a medieval Grade II listed semi-detached cottage which has been beautifully restored. The large bedroom has an ornate four-poster bed and additionally there is a wonderfully comfortable, working antique copper bath in the bedroom. The living room provides a stunning inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove.
Betsy is a charming romantic cottage. The cottage is named after Betsy Birch who lived there around 300 years ago with her 7 children and a lodger! The ancient beams along with the four poster bed in the bedroom make for a rather comforting and dramatic setting. The kitchen is small but is well equipped. Due to its size we can’t fit a full size oven in. The counter top oven though is absolutely fine for basic cooking. Most of our guests tend to head up to the pub which is within walking distance. In the summer sit out in the courtyard and pick grapes from the grapevine. During the winter snuggle up on the sofa in front of the log burning stove.
Betsy is within 5 minutes drive of Glastonbury and within 15 of the historic city of Wells. If it’s shopping you are after then Clarke’s village is 5 minutes drive. There is a great choice of National Trust property’s around and some stunning walking as well. If it’s walking your after then we can supply you with local maps. Butleigh village is very quiet. Don’t expect lots of phone signal but do expect to have the perfect excuse to switch off and listen to the sound of nothing. The village boasts a shop full of well stocked local produce and a Post Office.
  • The cottage was such a wonderful place to spend our anniversary and November felt like the perfect time to be there, with the wood burning fire. The place is absolutely beautiful, so full of charm and very cosy. I loved the window seats! The bed is super comfy and Glastonbury is 10 minutes away by car. We'd definitely go back.

  • Super Quirky, quaint cottage tucked away off the village high street. Great bolt hole for anyone visiting Somerset with Huge feature bath, and large four poster bed. What’s not to like.

  • A beautiful cosy cottage in a lovely village. Lovely, quiet location and very comfy. Fantastic bath and some really homey touches. I was in the area for work, but it would be a lovely place for a quiet summer weekend or even a cosy winter break! Thanks Emma. :)

Welcome to Walnut Cottage, a cosy, a self-contained cottage with en suite accommodation and a very comfortable bed. The cottage is very private and peacefully situated in our garden looking out over surrounding fields. Local towns of Castle Cary and Bruton and the A303 are 10 minutes distant. We are surrounded by wedding venues and will provide additional accommodation in the house by arrangement. If attending a local event, we suggest advance booking Castle Cary based taxis (see guide).
Walnut Cottage is the perfect place to relax in your own cosy, comfortable retreat with kind size double bed and en suite bathroom and shower. There is a step ladder to an upper mezzanine space, filled with cushions to make it the ideal space to chill out. You will have separate, private access and an option to either hideaway or enjoy a continental breakfast for an extra £5.00 per person. There is a toaster and small fridge in the cottage. A larger fridge is located in the garage for the use of guests.
North Barrow is a small village 2 miles from Castle Cary and the same distance from Sparkford. The village does not have a shop or pub, however the excellent Red Lion pub in Babcary is 10 mins drive - or a 20 minute cycle. North Barrow is very well situated, less than 10 mins from the A303 with a range of interesting and different local towns - Castle Cary and Bruton are the nearest, with Wells, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Wincanton and Yeovil all within a 20 minute drive. We have lovely walks and cycling routes which you can enjoy from the house or a short drive to the local country pubs which serve the local ciders and cheddar cheeses, including the Red Lion at Babcary (10 mins drive or 20 mins cycle), which serves good food - including take-away pizzas. There are plenty of historical sites and art galleries on our doorstep, including the famous Hauser and Wirth Gallery (and good restaurant) in Bruton. Popular local destinations are Wells, Glastonbury, Clarks shopping village in Street, the Kilver Court Designer and Mulberry outlet in Shepton Mallet, Haynes Motor Museum (5 mins), Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm museum, and the National Trust house and garden, Lytes Cary Manor.
  • Arrived at Walnut Cottage early in terrible weather, Ginnie was straight out with offers of help and to check us in. The cottage is beautiful and kept to a high standard, with lovely little touches all around (especially the biscuits). Games, dvds and the fairy light den made for a cosy night in during Storm Dennis! The bed is so comfy too. We were able to check out a little later too which was lovely! Thank you both for a lovely stay.

    Owain2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a lovely stay here on a sunny January weekend. Ginnie and Andrew are lovely and the direction / information prior to arrival was top notch. The cottage itself is set off of a quiet country lane and the area was very peaceful (just what we were after). The interior of the cottage was very cosy, the pictures do not do it justice. It was very clean and welcoming. The cakes and tea making facilities were also very welcome! If you are looking for a quiet weekend away in the countryside then look no further.

    Simon2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy space with everything needed and some lovely touches. Ginnie and Andrew were so kind and accommodating. Check in was easy and we felt settled straight away, we wish we could have stayed longer.

  • We had a wonderful short but sweet stay with Andrew and Ginnie; the cottage was lovely, the perfect location for the wedding we attended at North Cadbury Court. The additional touches in the room were great and Ginnie and Andrew were such fantastic hosts, couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Gertie was the icing on the cake. We wouldn’t hesitate to come here again.

Lilac Cottage is close to fantastic walks & fabulous views, the art, alternative & traditional English culture of Glastonbury, Bath, Salisbury, Bristol, Wells and the countryside of the Somerset Levels, Mendip Hills, Exmoor & Dartmoor. You’ll love the cottage feel, the outdoors space, the comfy beds, the village setting, and the stars at Lilac Cottage. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and we especially welcome up to 2 furry friends (pets).
Lilac Cottage provides a welcoming, warm and friendly place to stay. The traditional stone built cottage is attached to our 15th Century Thatched House and was originally an outbuilding which was converted many years ago. We renovated in 2001 and transformed it into the contemporary cottage you see today. It provides a light and airy space which is warm in Winter and cool in Summer with cottage gardens wrapped around it. Fully equipped kitchen with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk & sugar awaits your arrival, along with all the essentials!
West Pennard is a beautiful English country village set 3 miles from Glastonbury set in the lee of Pennard Hill. The village pub, The Red Lion, is set next door to Lilac Cottage and provides welcome refreshments and serves good quality food and drink in a lovely 16th century property. Glastonbury Festival is held most years just up the road from us and brings a world of music & culture to our doorstep.

Terraced character cottage originally built as accommodation for the horse hair weaving factory opposite. It is newly refurbished and dogs are welcome. The well equipped cottage is within walking distance of charming country town, mainline station and open countryside. Ideal base for visiting Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Longleat, Stourhead The Newt in Somerset or Hauser & Wirth. Or as overnight accommodation for Cadbury Court, Pennard House, Sparkford Hall, Holbrook Manor or Kilver Court.
Our aim is to provide clean, comfortable accommodation at a reasonable charge. Set over two floors, you are welcomed through the front door into the living room with dining table and chairs, comfy seating and internet enabled tv. Through the hallway is the bathroom which has a shower over the bath, wash basin and wc. From the hallway, a few steps lead you down into the well equipped kitchen and back door, taking you down further steps to the garden. The garden has ample space for relaxing with a lawned area, flower borders and an archway takes you to the gravelled area - with views over open fields and Glastonbury Tor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one King size, overlooking the front of the property, with dressing table and garment hooks ; the other double room overlooks the garden, with garment hangers and shelves.
Born and bred in Castle Cary, I confess I am biased but not without good reason. We are rightly proud of our independent shops, coffee shops and pubs - you can get most things you need and much more you didn’t know you needed! The town itself has a museum based in the historic Market House and one of only a few surviving Round House prisons to visit. Castle Cary is a great base if you’re attending an event at Cadbury Court, Holbrook Manor or Sparkfork Hall. Equally suitable if you’re planning to visit more popular tourist spots like Clark’s Village, Glastonbury, Longleat, Haynes Motor Museum, Yeovilton, the Somerset Levels, Stonehenge and Stourhead.
  • A great location for exploring Castle Cary, surrounding villages and beyond!

  • We were down for a work trip and it was exactly what we needed. The check-in instructions were spot on, and the local tips they’d left were really helpful.

We have a single room with en-suite toilet. There is a shower room along the corridor. The room looks out onto the garden and adjoining field.
There is plenty of parking. A former vicarage under gradual renovation - there is always something going on but we do try to keep guest areas tranquil! There are interesting features, photos, pictures and ornaments around. The house is friendly and welcoming. The garden is wild and free - we have tried to tame parts of it though!
Within easy walking distance we are lucky to have a pub serving good meals. There are monthly events including live music held there too. There is also a garage with a small supermarket. We are centrally placed to visit a number of places of interest such as Glastonbury, Somerton (seat of the kings of Wessex) and Castle Cary. National Trust properties, Lytes Cary and Montacute House are also close.

  • Some things are meant to be, and finding Mo's place was just that. I was looking for places to stay in the town of Glastonbury, and I didn't see anything that seemed nice enough for the price or with high enough ratings. I saved this listing and continued to look. I was coming to this area specifically for Glastonbury and to get a reboot and I was told that this was the place to do it. I was hesitant about booking a place outside of the immediate town of Glasto, because I kept thinking I wanted to be as close to it all as possible. Let me tell you, I AM SO GLAD that I gave myself some space away from it all! Mo's place was the perfect place to decompress. Distance wise, it's a smidge over 3 miles or about 5 Kilometers, about 6-8 minutes if you're driving. On a side note, If you do have a car, don't fret, you have a nice little spot right in front to park it in. The space itself was so nice, clean, and clutter free. There was a lot of extra space (until I unpacked), but at the same time, it had all the amenities you could think of, and then some. If you're wondering about other things to do while you're in the area, Mo has you covered. There is a box filled with information on surrounding towns and attractions. Whether you're traveling solo or with the kids, you'll find plenty of options. For me, Mo was more than just a "host". She's an incredibly cool and down to earth human being, and I felt it in the vibe of space. Together, they were my beacon while navigating the heavy current, that for me, was Glastonbury. I will always stay here if I ever come back! Thanks Mo!
