Places to stay in Lydd-on-Sea
Dunes View is our lovely 4 bedroom Beach House, enjoying glorious, uninterrupted sea views from the living area and balcony and direct beach access. Perfect for families with kids, and anyone who loves fresh air, beach sports and Hot Tubs! Please note there is a £50 per stay cost to use the hot tub - this will be added to your bill after booking once we have received confirmation you wish to use this facility.
Dunes View is our recently renovated beach front home, featuring open plan living accommodation, clean modern décor and a wealth of features to make the most of Beach front living. Relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea on the extensive balcony with comfy outdoor furniture and gas BBQ and watch the tides wash in and out and the sky in all it's glory, no matter what the time of year. The lounge area features cosy sofa seating for 6 adults and there are two huge bean bags and 2 deck chairs to support a relaxed and flexible family atmosphere. The large picture windows really do showcase the spectacular sea and dune view, without compromising on your privacy. There is a 50' plasma screen, dvd, free view and surround system entertainment package with a selection of CD's to enjoy and connectors for most smart phones to stream your personal music and videos. (high speed internet access is included as standard) The Kitchen is very well appointed with all the mod cons you would expect (dishwasher, microwave, double oven, gas hob etc) and the open plan living arrangements means that chef is never excluded from the action or the views! The stylish bedrooms, all on the ground floor, feature new linens and fresh decoration. Two are ideal for adults featuring King Size beds and fitted wardrobes, the others perfect for kids (one has full sized bunks, one 2x 2ft6 singles) so extended families or 2 family shares are easily accommodated. Two bathrooms, (one shower/bath, one shower) have been recently decorated and installed and feature pumped water pressure systems. Even the mundane aspects of self catering are well catered for; There is an extremely useful utility room featuring separate a washer, dryer and sink - which is accessible straight from the garden to help you deal with the inevitable sandy shoes, clothes and toes. The shower room connects directly here also, so getting the sand out of the harder to reach places is also a breeze. As you would expect, the property is centrally heated. The Garden features a range of outdoor furniture and planting and extensive and private patio area, with your private beach access, which in a matter of footsteps, takes you through a lovely grassy area through to the dunes and the gorgeous, safe and clean Greatstone beach. The Hot Tub seats 6 adults and is located in the private rear garden, so when tired of the view upstairs, have a soak in the tub and enjoy the lovely garden. Day or night, winter or summer, the bubbles are terrific! Please note, children under 12 are not permitted to use the hot tub. If you can drag yourself away from the amazing beach, there is loads to do in the local area, the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway is very popular, and you can see the trains pass up the road out the kitchen window and front bedrooms.
Its a very quiet residential neighbourhood, so while we are happy to host groups, we do ask our guests to respect our lovely neighbours and be considerate in regards to any noise they may make on the balcony, in the hot tub and on the dunes.

  • The workshop is a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are all clean and bright with stylish and well arranged furniture. The beds were comfy with good quality bedding. The workshop has been really well thought through and beautifully styled. The workshop is set in lovely grounds so our children and dog had a lot of fun playing in the garden. The setting is very peaceful and relaxing. Lydd is a pretty village with a few useful shops. Would highly recommend a stay here.

  • We have just spent 2 nights of quality family time at Johns place. The proerty had everything we could have possibly needed and was very spacious. The hot tub was a welcome treat after a 10 mile walk. Its perfectly situated for the small railway and it was lovely to shop local in the small town without having to drive. We didn't get to meet our hosts but left us in friendly capable hands for check in and check out.

    Rebecca2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place. We stayed with our 18 month old daughter and there was lots in the house and garden to keep her entertained. Hot tub is brilliant. Recommend the New Romney mini railway train which is around the corner.

Delightful 1 bedroom cabin on the shingle headland at Dungeness, moments from the sea, with wonderful views. A large modern walk in shower room and separate living room with kitchenette. Super comfy kingsize bed or twin beds option, and a sofa bed.
Our one bedroom cosy cabin is modern and user friendly for your trip to discover this amazing coastline. Very comfortable bed and sofa bed, tiled shower room, your own access and key for complete independence. A few basic supplies will be included for breakfast, and the convection oven, grill and hob will allow for basic meals to be prepared, with your own fridge to store and chill. There is also a very good pub serving a great selection of food few hundred metres away! There is free parking for one vehicle. We have 2 identical cabins set together on a single private track with lovely views towards the 2 lighthouses. The is good wifi but no TV or DVD player.
Being a Special Area of Conservation, a Nature Reserve and dubbed ''Britain's only desert'', Dungeness is quite a unique place. It has a barren beauty and many wonderful sites and sounds to discover. The sunrise over the sea in front of the apartments, setting behind the cottage, the clear bright stars at night take your breath away. Kite surfers cruise along the shoreline, bird watchers and ramblers pass by, the little steam train toots and trundles along the bottom of the road every half an hour, the two light houses prevent you ever getting lost, the architecture is diverse and unusual as you wonder down to the silent and by night quite Art Deco looking power station. The un-crowded shingle beaches are dotted with fisherman, and a walk towards Romney Bay provides miles of sand stretching to Folkstone. There are no arcades or bucket and spade shops in this area just a peaceful tranquil beach for a total getaway.
  • Dungeness is our happy place, and the accommodation didn’t disappoint either. Sparkling clean, well equipped and stylish. A great little place on the outskirts of the Dungeness estate, with clear views across the desert to the lighthouse. Both myself, my toddler and the pug wish we could’ve stayed longer, but will definitely be back in the summer!

  • Great place with views over the shingles 'desert' to the light houses and power stations. Weather meant we didn't always have clear views but Dungeness is so unusual it didn't matter. Cabin was cosy and clean with very comfy bed and great walk in shower. Easy walking distance to the beach and pub with great food.

    Gaye2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Great for visiting nearby beaches and historic towns. Nice touches in the flat. Added cost for having a dog was a bit steep at 25 pounds as pretty sure to clean such a small space would cost much less. Otherwise a lovely spot to spend our anniversary!

    Alasdair2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really much enjoyed staying at Phillida’s place with our two kids. The place was cosy and within walking distance of a nice pub and the beach. We’d stay here again.

  • We had a great time in Mistral cottage, perfectly situated to explore the area. Great views over the shingles ‘desert’ and the power station. Helvetia is a lovingly maintained former fisherman's cottage situated on Dungeness point with direct access to the sea and wonderful views across the English Channel. Accommodating four, it has a kingsize bed in one bedroom and a double bed in the other. The cosy oak beamed sitting room has a log burner for wintry days and nights. The large bathroom has a separate bath and shower and there is also a sunroom with spotting scope for the ample Dungeness wildlife and the ships passing closely by.
Helvetia was built in the 1920s and the decor of this cosy cottage reflects the period in genuine art deco style; it is a comfortable cottage full of charm. Fresh flowers, milk, butter, bread and a homemade cake will greet you on your arrival. Dungeness still has a working lighthouse so the foghorn will be heard if the weather is foggy. Wifi can sometimes be patchy. There is ample parking for two cars.
Dungeness is unique, classed as Europe's only desert, it is a huge expanse of shingle, home to diverse flora, fauna and wildlife. Porpoises and seals are spotted almost daily from Dungeness Point and birds - often rare ones - rest here during migration. There are two pubs serving food within walking distance but the real culinary gem is the famous Dungeness Snack Shack serving fresh fishy snacks, crab and lobster direct from the family's boats, and it is a five minute walk away. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway's station is a short walk from Helvetia. The large sandy beaches of Camber and Littlestone are close by, as are the ancient Cinque Port towns of Rye and New Romney. The big skies here are a photographer's dream as are the sunrises and sunsets.
  • Lovely house, spacious, well appointed, clean and well looked after. Easy access on arrival out of hours. Amazing location. Only thing to note is that if travelling with teenagers the WiFi isn't great (very poor signal strength) but I had pretty good mobile 4G signal although my partner didn't. But then why are we using our phones in such an amazing location?

  • We had a super 3 night stay in this wildly beautiful corner of England. June's cottage is cosy, homely and spotless and we were welcomed by some lovely touches- homemade cake and flowers. From the cottage you step out into a vast expanse of wild Dungeness with the unique shingle shoreline, the lighthouse, local pub and steam train, all within walking distance. Our kids ages 4 and 6 had a ball. Can't wait to come back and explore some more. Thank you .

  • Lovely cottage, amazing cake. Lots of local history info at the house which we found fascinating. Clean, warm and welcoming.

    Matthew2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house was perfect. the view was amazing, checkin was easy. And to top it all there were essentials in the fridge a home made cake and fresh flowers. Really great stay!

  • We started 2020 in this lovingly restored 1930’s cottage. Staying here was an other worldly experience, we gazed at the nuclear power station from our kitchen window (spookily lit up at night) and our garden was the shingle beach sloping sharply down to the sea scattered with statuesque beached fishing boats. Flanked by the two lighthouses, we were also a short stroll from the Sea Shack, Prospect Cottage, artist open studio, RHD station and The Britannia Inn. And the welcome Victoria Sponge in the glass cake stand in the kitchen was so more-ish.

    Anjali2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage in lovely location. Very quiet - pin drop quiet at night. Comfy beds, open fire, views to die for. We came for New Years and even at midnight then you couldn’t hear a thing. Dungeness is rugged, exposed and beautiful and this cottage sits right in the heart of it, a short walk from two nice pubs. Ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all, and June’s little touches and decoration were superb. She even made us a cake (which we polished off with gusto). We hope to return in summer. Stunning.

    Jake2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay , great atmosphere.

Being one of the original fishermen's cottages on Dungeness, Seaview Cottage has been lovingly restored to cater for modern needs yet still maintain it's old charm with the original wood panelled interior throughout. It is perfectly situated with sea views to the front and the wild shingle beach known as 'The Desert of England' all around you. The famous RHDR miniature steam railway runs just a few strides from your front door and the Dungeness National Nature Reserve stretches out behind you.
Inside Seaview has been finished in a coastal style with local touches gathered from the area. There is a log burner with some logs provided for guests use. The second bedroom in the converted net loft, although a little limited in height into the eaves, has proved to be a favourite with children and some toys are provided for their entertainment. There is also access to a small outside balcony and staircase to the shingle. Outside there is a fully enclosed wild foliage garden with a small patio area. A lockable shed for guests to store any fishing equipment or cycles is provided with a garden table and chairs for al fresco dining available.
The whole of Dungeness is registered as a National nature reserve and is unofficially recognised as the only desert in the UK. Popular attractions are the RNLI lifeboat station just opposite the cottage, The Old Lighthouse and of course the RHDR steam railway. Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage and it's famous garden are a short stroll. Highly recommended are the Snack Shack at Dungeness Fish Hut serving freshly cooked local fish and the Pilot inn serving their famous fish and chips.
  • Seaview Cottage is a perfect place for peace and quiet without being in the middle of nowhere. Wildlife is in abundance and the RH&D Railway going past is a great free bonus, two pubs are walking distance on a safe walking route. If you need to re-charge then this is the place to do it, highly recommended

    Jeremy2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage, I really enjoyed our stay such a beautiful cottage. So cosy and you feel like you are in the middle of no mans land which is perfect for escaping the city. Would highly recommend. Thank you for being so helpful and attentive Alan 😊

  • Dungeness is magic and Seaview is the perfect way to enjoy it. The cottage is in immaculate condition, spotlessly clean and full of charm.

    Phil2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • You will be so well looked after in this spotless, stylish place in the exceptional and unique community of Dungeness. 5 stars all round.

    Jane2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Such a special place. Cosy, safe, calm, restorative. At night, with the wood burner ablaze, the cottage snug against the howling wind and the lashing rain and the fairy lights of the power station in the distance - just magical. By day, the sunshine pours in and the sea draws you to march along its shore watching the breakers crash on the shingle. The cottage is wonderful and special. Its location is just extraordinary. Quite unique.

    Louise2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Back for the second time. Love the cottage and Dungeness wish we could have stayed longer.

    Sandy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place to clear your head and feel the air, it’s like waking up in an unknown world were you don’t have to worry about your daily stresses. The children loved the house also with a super long bedroom up stairs and the mini train going the house in the morning. A good walk to the end of the line cafe /and station we’re you can get the mini train to other little towns and back . Overall and a great place to stay. Thanks Finn

    John2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. 2 mins walk to promenade and beach front. 13 lodges fairly well placed apart. Clean; funky design concept which we were very impressed with. Really great staff. Great base for the area. They have bikes to hire also. Would probably go in the first 3 years as they could become tired looking easily and also before they build any more on the site.

    Victoria2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cabu is a beautifully designed, cosy well kept secret. The hosts, amenities, distance to the beach are all outstanding. Rachel was a fantastic host and we could not have asked for a more relaxing weekend. I could not recommend this retreat more! Sam x

The beds are really good and many amenities are available for breakfast, thea and coffee. From this place we could easily reach places like London, Leeds Castle and Dover Castle.

  • Julie and Rons home is in a fantastic location, right on the coast. It it is in a quiet area, with a great coastal walk straight from the front door. It is spacious, well equipped, with lovely welcoming touches , coffee, tea, milk, bread and butter, jams , cereal, etc etc. The beds are super comfortable - the best sleep I've had in 4 weeks of travelling! July and Ron are great hosts. They welcomed me personally, stopped to chat and offered useful travel tips whenever our paths crossed. I felt very relaxed in their company and in their home and would highly recommend them.

Private, nearly self-catering - kettle, toaster, egg boiler, fridge. Double or twin beds. Self check-in if liked. Ensuite bathroom - shower, Jacuzzi, Dungeness tiles. Stunning views across Dungeness from conservatory. Warm & cosy & mere minutes from pub & sea. Private entrance, use of patio & garden (host may walk down gdn). Delicious, large, vegetarian breakfast in privacy of suite, put out beforehand so you're entirely private, or brought through in the morning. You choose! NO cleaning fee.
Warm welcome to our very comfortable, private guest suite! Vegetarian breakfast of cereals, breads, eggs, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, jams, juices, milk, coffees, teas - if you’re vegan or gluten-free, please let us know. You may come & go as you please, day & night. We live in the other half of the house, with our own entrance. Scroll down for much more. The beds have comfortable, medium-firm mattresses, plus white, Egyptian cotton bed linen, hypo-allergenic duvets & pillows (firm & soft) & lovely woollen blankets & cushions. Babies are very welcome & we make no charge for babies up to age 3 (but please bring your baby's own bedding & food). Most dogs are very welcome but may we please discuss them beforehand - there are cats in neighbouring gardens. We make no charge for dogs but they musn't get on the beds or other furniture please. We provide free, off-the-road parking. Smokers are very welcome to smoke in the garden. We’re open every day of the year. All seasons on Dungeness have charm. Summer brings a brilliant array of red poppies & blue-mauve viper’s bugloss amid one third of all British wildflower species. Or come in winter for its huge, pink-tinted skies. Spring & autumn bring migrating birds of course. The sea is wonderful at all times & Dungeness even in the fog is satisfyingly mysterious. Do note that the Watch Tower is lovely for a Christmas or New Year break. For Christmas lunch or New Year’s Eve dinner, there are good restaurants a half hour drive away (in Rye & other places), or Christmas lunch at Demetrios Greek/English restaurant three miles away. Booking meals for the festive days or evenings is recommended. The Pilot Inn & Demetrios also serve food during this season but you need to check precisely when. Alternatively, why not bring your own food & we are happy to microwave simple meals for you in this season. We’re five minutes on foot from the beach (great swimming) & famous Pilot Inn. We’re in walking (or short driving) distance of Derek Jarman’s cottage, Snack Shack, Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Old Lighthouse, Dungeness Bird Observatory, RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve, Britannia Inn & Demetrios Greek restaurant. We’re in easy driving distance of Rye, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Hastings, Hythe, Folkestone, Port Lympne Zoo, Great Dixter & many other attractions. Dungeness is an artists, photographers & nature-lovers dream. Perfect for birdwatchers, walkers, cyclists, swimmers & kite-surfers. Also this is a Dark Skies place & wonderful for star-gazing. It’s great for wildflower enthusiasts (with 2/3 of British wildflower species) and moth-ers (with 2/3 of British moth species plus cross-Channel migrants). Our land is suitable for moth traps. Look out too for butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies & bumblebees.
Come and thrill to this unique landscape. It is a place of wind from all directions and the skies are vast. Light bounces off the pebbles making it a photographer's dream, and sunrises and sunsets are pure magic. Derek Jarman lived here and you can view his famous house and garden from the roadside. PLEASE note that Dungeness is of international conservation importance and therefore visitors should please not disturb either fauna or flora - nor indeed local residents! The peninsula is a huge triangle of Ice Age flint pebbles formed by longshore drift, and still growing. The Ness protrudes some four and a half miles into the Channel and on clear days you can see the White Cliffs of Dover, and even France. Dotted with fishing boats both old and new, fishermen's cottages, residential railway carriages, designer houses, two lighthouses, a lifeboat station, and a monolithic nuclear power station, it is attractive, weird, bleak, beautiful, and fascinating. In places it has a flavour of the Wild West, in patches a shanty town. Narrow-gauge steam trains rattle across it, flying their smoke banners, and hooting their pleasing whistles. Vast ships and sailing boats journeying in the Channel cross the bay to and from Dover. It is a conservation area, a SSSI, and home to two thirds of all British wildflower species, and two thirds of all British moth species. And you will see myriad birds especially at migration. You can climb the Old Lighthouse (in season), look over to France, travel on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, visit the nearby RSPB reserve, swim, kite-surf further along the coast, or just walk and wander across the shingle. You can stop for a delicious snack at the famous Snack Shack or enjoy fish and chips at the Britannia or famous Pilot Inn. A holiday here is perfect for a relaxing and interesting break, birdwatchers, moth-ers, nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, swimmers, kite surfers, artists, and photographers.

  • We loved our stay at Alison's. The conservatory was so comfortable and relaxing to be in after our cold windy walks. Alison's knowledge and tips on local places were especially invaluable. Also the most amazing location with everything on your doorstep.

  • We loved staying at Alison’s place. It is quiet and cosy, even in December. Alison is a wonderful host and is a great source of local travel tips. Breakfast is delicious, especially the cheesy scrambled eggs! We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking to visit Dungeness.

    Ella2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The rooms were exactly as advertised, extremely clean and very relaxing. Super cosy, even (or maybe especially?) on the dark rainy nights! Everything was very comfortable and Alison was very friendly and kind; it was fab to chat with her. The location was great: few minutes walk to beach and the local pub and right by the gates to Dungeness estate. Alison had lots of helpful tips too.

We live at Mulberry Cottage, a detached house. Please note no bookings during Covid-19 crisis. Cheaper rates for longer stays. We are a few steps from the sea and from the two Littlestone golf clubs. This single bedroom is in the guest wing of the house. There are two bath/shower/toilet rooms for the sole use of guests.
Mulberry Cottage is a wonderfully quiet home, with little road noise. There is a strong sense of peace and quiet here, it is a great place to unwind.
This part of the world is quite unique in its own right, it is a little cut off from the hustle and bustle of ordinary life and we find the quality of life here is quite wonderful. There is golf nearby, the beach and sea, cycling, walking, meandering, history to discover and the Romney Marshes to enjoy. There is also good food and drink, local seafood, local beers and wines.
  • Helen and Paul were great hosts and easy to talk to. I highly recommend staying here. Great hospitality and care!

  • Helen is one of the nicest hosts I have ever met. I arrived at roughly 10pm and she had no issues with that. She was very fast to respond to any queries I had and she gave me clear instructions to get to the house. The room was big and tidy and she provided towels and a shower sponge to use if necessary. There was a nice breakfast with home made granola which was probably the best granola I’ve ever tasted. Thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here!

  • It was just perfect and what I was looking for, a quiet place close to the ocean, inviting you for some walks along the coast or also taking a bath in the sea. Helen and Paul are lovely hosts, I felt like being part of the family, so we had nice chats about God and the world, sometimes even in German. After a delicious breakfast I usually went off exploring the area - thanks for all the valuable tips - returning late afternoon 'home' and cycled with their bike to the restaurant further south along the coast. I even could put my motorbike into their garage. Whenever I'm again at this corner of the world, I surely will return. MANY THANK YOU, Helen & Paul!

The kitchen had everything we needed and the welcome bits were a nice touch. It was very clean and tidy and quiet as on the edge by the field which is the best place! • We had such an amazing time in our beautiful Cabu... especially making good use of the fire place for the cold nights... It was so unbelievably cosy, just perfect for a mini winter getaway with our dogs. We loved how close it was to the sea and how accommodating Rachel was too. Will definitely be back again in the warmer days to make use of the swimming pool. Thank you so much for a wonderful last minute stay. Amma and Harley

  • What a wonderful place to escape and unwind. Perfect for humans and dogs. They really have thought of everything and it is a very easy and lovely getaway. Great location just by the beach, lovely outdoor swimming pool, onsite grocery store, super friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely in the summer but would happily return in the winter and fire up the log burner for a cosy retreat. Would highly recommend.

  • Maria's annex was in a fantastic location. Clean, well equipped and very comfortable. I'd highly recommend staying here and enjoying the delights of Dungeness!

  • Everything was exactly as described & was perfect for our family (two teens plus dog) visiting the area for the first time. Despite the windy weather (40mph winds!) we got out & enjoyed some big walks & a trip to the old lighthouse - and of course the proximity to the Pilot Inn for supper was great :-) The kids were delighted/relieved that the WiFi worked well & loved the big DVD collection. The Chromecast was much appreciated too.

    Caroline2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay - very clean and modern with everything we needed, and Maria was very accommodating and flexible. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this to others.

  • Maria's annex was a great place to stay for our weekend at Dungeness. It is really close to the seashore, and convenient for the nearby RSPB reserve. The home is very clean, great decor and with a modern kitchen.

  • An extremely clean and well equipped annexe with welcoming and thoughtful hosts. The Dungeness weather was a little bracing in December so it was lovely to have somewhere warm and comfortable to retreat to!

  • Incredible experience. The cabins are gorgeous and everything so fashionably thought through. Check in was tricky in that I wasn’t provided with an exact location until past 5.30 and left driving around in the dark trying to spot the place. Ensure you’re sent this early as it was an 8 hour message delay !

  • Nicki's place was lovely...thoughtful touches of bread, butter, jam, milk etc were left for us. It was extremely comfortable and sparkling clean! We loved the location - short walk to the beach and right on the canal. We also had a great morning out at Port Lympne Reserve with our 1 year old..a short drive away and highly recommended.

  • This is a fantastic place in a unique and wonderful environment. This is by far the best ABNB experience we have had to date. Everything is organized perfectly and the property is beautiful.

  • We all had a fantastic time at Sunspot, even though Storm Dennis turned up for a visit. The view from the main living area across the beach is amazing, thoroughly enjoyed the local wildlife and the little steam train whistling by. A unique and special place to spend a weekend.

    Katie-Jane2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We throughly enjoyed our two night stay at Sunspot Dungeness. The weather was very kind of the Saturday and Sunday we also enjoyed as high a winds as we have ever walked in. In between we had two family evening meals around the large dining table. The wood burning stove worked well. We would recommend to anyone seeking the Dungeness experience!

    Robert2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a gorgeous, relaxing space with lovely expansive views across the shingle. We loved sitting in the lounge with the wood burner on looking out to the sea. Felt like home from home!

  • Really lovely house in a great location in atmospheric Dungeness. House has everything you need and is even nicer than photos. Just spent a couple of days relaxing at sunspot, going for windy beach walks and then warming up by the log burner.

    Holly2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house and a perfect location for spending time in the magic of Dungeness

    Matthew2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sunspot is elegantly and kitted out with a full modern feel and amazing views to both the beach and back towards the power plant. The place was easy to find and ideally located for getting around and a short walk to Derek Jarman's garden. Wildlife galore to see both in the local micro-ecosystem and along Romney Marshes and the RSPB centre The kitchen was well kitted out with an extensive range of herbs and spices which made cooking good meals really easy and great fresh fish to buy locally. We had a great stay and Michael and Rachael were great hosts who responded quickly and helped our stay. If you want to see Dungeness and a range of beautiful scenery and wildlife as well as visit quaint small towns (even on the local tiny steam train), you can't go wrong here.

Wake in comfort to the sound of the sea, explore the misty brooding Romney Marsh, then warm up in the many atmospheric pubs with intriguing histories, resident ghouls, roaring fireplaces, cracking ales and tasty pub grub, walk along our pebbled beach, look out across the shimmering blue sea and you’ll feel like you’ve discovered another world. Stay at Coastguards Lantern and discover a landscape full of myth’s and legends, surrounded by the haunting loneliness of Romney Mash. A flat, open landscape of wide skies and fields criss-crossed by a lattice of drainage ditches, where yellow waterlilies float in early summer, it offers the opportunity to wander quiet lanes and paths and to visit some of its famous medieval churches and the vast stretch of historic invasion coast. Built in this secluded spot, to help guard against smuggling and invasion, this beautiful renovated coastguard cottage is the perfect location for a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Coastguards Lantern Summary Sleeps 4 people Dog friendly Sea views Beach just 80 meters away Woodburning stove 6 miles to RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve 6 miles to medieval town of Rye Quiet and secluded location South facing decked garden Nespresso coffee machine Parking for 2 cars Entertainment Flat screen 32” TV X Box 360 & selection of games Wifi (3g Mobile Broadband) DVD Player Flat screen TV & DVD player to master bedroom Flat screen TV & DVD player to 2nd bedroom Selection of DVD’s, board games and books Right beside the sea, near the village of Camber, and with views in every direction, Coastguards Lantern is a special, recently renovated holiday cottage surrounded by wild beauty. To one side is SSSI-designated marshland (Site of Special Scientific Interest). To the other, the sea, so seclusion is a given. Yet you are only a few minutes’ drive to the medieval Cinque Port town of Rye for shops, pubs and restaurants. Coastguards Lantern is a modified traditional coastguards cottage with modern updates layered over its 143-year-old bones. As soon as you step inside, you will note the careful attention paid to this home’s renovation. Dining & Lounging The newly equipped open plan kitchen/dining room has everything you’ll need to prepare lovely meals, including a beautiful Range cooker, Nespresso Coffee Machine, breakfast bar and farmhouse dining table. Why not visit Rye and buy locally caught seafood fresh from the boat? Or some Romney Marsh lamb from the local butchers? Beside The Sea Holidays will be more than happy to recommend our favourites! After dinner, cosy down on the comfy sofas in the lounge and watch the flames dance in the log burning stove—the centrepiece of this lovely space. Bed & Bath Upstairs you’ll find a stunning and modern bathroom with a secret: a customised bath set high enough for sea views to accompany your soothing soak. Dare we say with a glass of wine as an accompaniment? How perfect is that? The large, comfortable master bedroom has a super king-size bed and unspoilt views over the sheep-studded marsh where the local smugglers plied their trade. The second bedroom has two 3ft beds and a stunning view of the sea, plus a small flat screen TV with DVD, just in case you ever tire of watching the waves and sunset! Outdoors The cottage has a decked south-facing and quiet garden, the perfect place to relax after a day of coastal hikes and historical sites. The pebble beach is mere steps away, with a paved boardwalk spanning its length for sand-and-stone-free jogs. Do as much or as little as you like here, with only the crackle of the fire and the crash of the waves to interrupt the quiet. Other things to note Coastguards are old properties in a very exposed location and in the winter months the wind can really howl off the sea - some guests love watching the weather go wild or the sea mist rolling creating an eerie atmosphere, while some have found it a little unsettling. So if you are not a fan of older houses that have history and character then this would not be for you - we do have modern properties down the road that are in a more sheltered environment. The cottages are next to the Lydd Ranges, a military firing range (its also a nature reserve). It has been used for military training for over 150 years and is part of the Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Rye Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest (it is home to incredibly rare plants and animals) Because the range is used for live firing access is sometimes restricted - red flags are flown during these times, access is prohibited along the foreshore. When firing is not carried out, it may be possible to walk along a designated path along the shore. Feb & Mar 2020 During Feb and March the Environment agency are carrying out essential emergency sea defence works to extend the range of the sea wall to the rear of the coastguards. The compound to the right of the cottages will be where they will be housing their machinery.

  • We had a lovely weekend in this well equipped, well presented and comfortable house. It was very windy outside, yet we were cosy and warm throughout the house and especially in front of the log fire! A quiet location and great to be able to walk out to the sea front. We were able to easily explore Rye and Dungeness with only a short drive to each. We would also highly recommend The Pilot Inn in Dungeness for dinner.

A stunning room with lots of natural light, this is a lovely hideaway tucked up close to the centre of the village, in easy walking distance of the castle, bistro and pub. The room has been completely refurbished to a high standard with you very much in mind. An ensuite wet room completes this beautiful space.
Please come and go as you please. We are happy to provide pots of tea and in the process of adding a Nespresso machine within the room (suggest you bring your favourite pods if you are a coffee expert!).
The village is blessed with a fantastic bistro plus a friendly pub. Lots of people visit this immediate area due to the castle being an incredible wedding venue (including our own). Port Lympne Zoo is 5 minutes drive; is a fabulous place to visit plus another favourite for weddings. We are extremely accessible to the Eurotunnel (one junction away) so if you have an early morning train, we are very conveniently placed. At the base of Lympne Hill is The Hatch, selling craft beers including local Hop Fuzz Brewery. Very popular on a summer's evening.

  • Superbly located with just a short stroll to a deserted beach. The cottage itself is charming without being cluttered. We really appreciated that it was lovely and warm on our arrival and lying in bed listening to Storm Ciara was a real treat! Thank you for a lovely weekend.

  • Lovley cottage in a great location. We travelled from London and dont have a car but it was not a problem. Nearby town Rye is as idyllic as the accomadtion and has good bus routes and taxis to the cottage. We spent the days walking on the beach and stopping off at pubs (The Owl is great for food) and spent the evenings relaxing by the fire.

  • This is a lovely cottage. It is clean, comfortable with plenty of heat and hot water. The fire made it cosy while the Storm Gareth was blowing.

Sit in the leafy garden looking out over the beautiful countryside outside this small cottage in peaceful, secluded Romney Marsh. Perfect for couples wanting to escape to enjoy some time together or solo travelers seeking refuge.
We offer a tiny cottage, warm in winter and cool in summer, as a perfect escape with no disturbances.
The cottage is in the countryside of Romney Marsh, offering views, birds, wildlife, and peace and quiet. Pubs and the beach are within walking distance. Dover, Tenterden, and Canterbury are all within easy reach.
  • A lovely, comfortable, clean and homely small cottage, ideal for a romantic getaway or much needed rest and relaxation. Our hosts, Jan and John, made us feel very welcome without being intrusive. If we had a query or issue, they were very quick to respond, helpfully and with patience (we had a challenge with the new electric hob!). The kitchen is well equipped if you prefer to cook your own meals. The cottage is well located, with good outside space and lovely views in a very peaceful setting, but within easy reach of the coastal towns of Hythe and Folkestone. We would definitely recommend this accommodation. Thank you Jan and John for a lovely relaxing stay.

  • It is a great feeling to visit Jan and John, most humble and down to earth beings. They made us feel very comfortable, went way beyond and dropped us to the station, gave us their fresh apples from the garden. Place is beautifully located, best hosts i have come across until now. Thank you so much for having us.

  • This is a beautiful retreat, quiet and thoughtfully prepared and equipped. Jan welcomed us in person and ensured we were comfortable and warm during a wet and windy weekend!

    Anne2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most considered accommodation I've ever stayed in. Jan had personal touches that went above the average. I will definitely be visiting again.

    Annika2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • A complete escape in a quiet location but not far from the beach and pubs etc. Enjoyed walking some of the Royal Military Canal and of course the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch railway is always worth a visit. A compact and pretty cottage with a comfortable bed and lovely host. Thank you Jan, we will be back.

  • The Ocean Shack is a lovely family apartment, with one double bed and a bunk bed suitable for two children. Beds are extremely comfortable, not too hard and not too soft. The living area has a comfy sofa, large sitting chair, table for four people and new smart TV plus a small kitchenette with good quality utensils. Only tea and coffee and salt and pepper is provided so those wanting to cook will need all their store cupboard stuff as well as food. Nearby there is an excellent fishmongers for those that way inclined but even if you don't want to cook the fishmongers will cook on site for a reasonable small addition. Back on site there is a lovely outdoor eating area with six burner BBQ and fantastic communal griddles, perfect for larger families with older children and groups. There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool plus children's pool, early September it was cool getting in but after a while you got very used to the roughly 20 degrees water! The grounds themselves are rewilded with lots of interesting wild flowers and plants for kids to explore, and the compound is safe and secure for them to run around in, even for our two year old. Just over the sea wall directly in front of the compound you have access to the beach and miles of sandy fun! The sea wall also looks to stretch out round the bay for miles and miles, great for runners and cyclists. We also noticed there were some cycles on site for guests but did not try them. There is a provisions store on site with quality produce to buy, fantastic books, good selection of food and drinks (but perhaps a few extra types of non IPA beers would be nice) and other things. This as well as checkin /out and anything else you need onsite is managed by Rachel and John, who were very welcoming and interesting to talk to if you get a chance! Nearby as well as the fishmongers, there is a small store and extremely welcoming pub but otherwise the village is quiet and you'll need to go further for attractions, but there are lots to find. Try the narrow guage railway, for starters, that runs through the village for starters, you can hail the once an hour service down and go as far as Dungeness one way and Hythe the other. There's also Romney Marshes and Dymchurch very closeby too. All in all an excellent weekend away with the only shame we couldn't stay longer.

    Adam2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Arrived to a beautiful cabin in a spectacular location. Rachel and John were outstanding hosts, so incredibly helpful. My family, dogs and I will definitely be coming back!

    Ella2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the ocean cabin was great. Cozy and really calm. The space was sparkling clean! I loved the big windows and comfy sofas ! The little ones loved the fact there was a swimming pool a stones throw from the cabin and a few mins walk and you are on the beach ! So perfect for exploring with the little ones. We loved our stay . It was summer but because of the log burner and cozy feel of the cabin I feel like I would love to return in the autumn for a cozy visit too Thank you RAchel .

  • Thirteen quirky and stylish cabins by the sea with a heated pool and a shop that sells local produce for the table top barbecue. Rachel and Jon are wonderful hosts. The cabins are amazing. Go before they’re booked solid.

The Salty Shepherd, with shower, small kitchen area and extremely comfy bed, offers complete privacy and a stunning beach one mile away. The Romney Marsh is a very special place; the skies are enormous and the views are too. From the foot of your bed you can watch it all.
A secluded fully equipped shepherds hut allowing complete privacy on a working farm but still close enough to the beach and beautiful nearby towns to offer a fabulous place for a break away. It is small (16ft 8ft) but has everything you need for a truly memorable and unusual experience. Our guests tell us it's definitely worth it! It can only fit two people in one double bed but the view from the end of the bed is wonderful. The farm's resident barn owl is often seen hunting along the ditch just meters away and the pair of English partridges are also worth looking out for. Guests are welcome to walk around the farm to take in the unusual beauty of the Romney Marsh where the sunsets aren't often beaten.
Rye, Hastings, Tenterden. All beautiful old towns packed with history and super shops. Aside from the water sports and fishing on your doorstep, there are National Trust houses, castles, gardens, long walks, ancient waterways, extensive numbers of birds and wildlife, nature reserves. Everything you could possibly want!
  • A truly magical place to stay. So very comfortable and lots of extra little special touches.

  • A genuine escape - Rosie was so helpful with my questions before our visit, and made sure to warn me about the weather! Would love to return and experience the sunset.

    Caitlin2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • WOW what a perfect place to get away from it all. We could of lied in that bed and watched the ever changing picture window for days. The Shepard’s hut has everything you could need, it really is perfectly laid out and done up beautifully. Just bring a couple of your favourite board games, couple of bottles of wine and switch off from it all. We’ll be back for sure.

    Polly2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful hut in an amazing location, we can’t wait to return :)

    Amie2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Super place: cosy, stylish, in an amazing location in the wilds of Romney Marsh close to the beach. Rosie's place is a great spot to catch up with yourself, loved-one and the things in life that matter: fresh air, big skies and warm fire. We'll be back.

We live at Mulberry Cottage, a detached house. Please note no bookings being taken during Covid-19 crisis. Cheaper rates for longer stays. We are a few steps from the sea and Littlestone golf club. This single bedroom is one of three guest bedrooms in the east wing of the house. There are two bath/shower/toilet rooms for sole use by guests.
Mulberry Cottage is a wonderfully quiet place to stay, away from road noise and with a great sense of peace and quiet here - somewhere to unwind.
This is a wonderfully quiet area, great for a 'get away from it all' kind of break. There is golf on our doorstep, the beach and the sea, there is opportunity for cycling (we can provide bikes, but please take out your own insurance, running, walking, meandering! The area is rich in history and the Romney Marshes are beautiful in their own right.
  • I was greeted with a warm friendly welcome, shown to my room, and offered refreshments. My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean.

    Paul2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Helens house is located in a quiet location very close to the sea. It takes less than 2 minutes to walk to the beach and about 20 minutes to the center of New Romney. I enjoyed reading in the garden until sunset. Guest room and bathroom were perfectly clean and lacked nothing. The breakfast with the homemade bread left nothing to be desired.

    Christian2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect spot. Close to everything, very welcoming and breakfast was excellent!

    Kyle2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was a very welcoming host. There house is located in a quiet part of the town so a good night's sleep was had and the little extras in the bathroom and bedroom was an added bonus, would recommend staying here to anyone.

  • I unreservedly recommend Mulberry Cottage. Helen and Paul gave me a warm welcome. The place is comfortable and sparkling clean. And Helen does truly great breakfasts!

    David2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • I spent 5 nights at Mulberry Cottage while I was doing an intensive kitesurfer instructor course. The cottage is so close to the beach and lovely and peaceful - just what I needed. Helen and Paul made me feel very welcome and I was at ease straight away. Very clean and comfy room. A guest living room is available too as well as the garden. Recommended!

    Susan2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Helen & Paul were very welcoming hosts and couldn't have done more to make me feel at home in their lovely house. I really appreciated the little extras like tea & cake when I came back from a long day out even though Helen was very busy at the time. I was on a long cycling trip so being able to keep my bike safely in their garage was a real bonus and Paul even helped me pump my tyres before I left as I wasn't strong enough to work the track pump!

    Elizabeth2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
