Places to stay in Lybster
Blingery Cottage welcomes all including your dog. A traditional cottage which has been sympathetically renovated and is very comfortable. It is situated in a peaceful setting which boasts panoramic views of Caithness and the farm ... and its resident sheep and highland cattle. A wood burning stove creates the perfect atmosphere (logs provided) & you're welcomed with tea/coffee, milk & biscuits. A lovely and relaxing country retreat with an abundance of wide open space, peace and quiet.
Sitting in the midst of acres of open farmland, Blingery (rhymes with "gingery") is a peaceful and relaxing 'get away from it all' cottage. It is approx 300 metres from the main farm with access via a track passable by 2 wheel drive vehicles. The accommodation is on 1 level and consists of an open-plan kitchen, dining, living room, with a sofa bed and a wood burner (Logs are provided PLEASE don't burn coal). The bedroom has a zip/link super king-size bed which can be made up as 2 singles if preferred. There is a good size bathroom with shower over the bath, WC and wash-hand basin.
The nearest town of Wick has a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. It also has an attractive harbour, commercial airport and a railway station. Ferries run from Scrabster, near Thurso and Gills Bay, west of John O' Groats to Orkney, which is well worth a visit. Caithness is a well established agricultural area, fringed to the north and east by dramatic coastal scenery. Away from the coast, the landscape is dominated by scattered settlements, open moorland and blanket bog known as the Flow Country. Caithness is held in very high regard by salmon and trout fishermen.
  • The perfect place to stay when driving the nc500. There is everything you’ll need. The cottage is extremely cosy with a fireplace, is clean and the bed is so comfy!

Hello Folks My name is Brenda and I'd be delighted to welcome you to my traditional B&B in the small fishing village of Lybster. I've been running it for many years - it's been a wonderful "job" whilst bringing up my two girls. They have flown the nest now, and convinced me to get with the times on the internet so ... here I am! The price is £32 for single guests, £55 for two guests, and includes a continental breakfast. A full Scottish is £5 per person. Enjoy your holidays! Brenda
The B&B is a Victorian stone-built house, traditionally decorated with 3 letting rooms. One is en-suite, the other two share a bathroom.
Lybster is a small fishing village on the east coast of Caithness - the North Coast 500 route. It's 11 miles south of Wick where there is an airport and a train station. We are in the heart of the village, close to all local amenities including the golf course, bowling green, local businesses and picturesque harbour.
  • I stayed with Brenda in my way to Orkney. We had a lovely conversation at breakfast and as a result I had a fascinating morning visiting the nearby Neolithic sites.

    Lulu2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda is a great host! She’s great for communicating with you prior to your stay and so thoughtful! She contacted me to let me know about places to eat in the area and was so concerned when my car broke down on route. Definetly would reccomend booking in, very representative of the hospitality and friendly nature of the locals on the Northeast Coast!

    Charlie2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We have been allowed to use the suite. This was nicely focused. TV, kettle, coffee / tea and a nice bed. Neat bathroom and clean towels. We also had a nice chat with Brenda and her daughter, very friendly people who certainly give good tips about what to do in the area! Highly recommended.

    Anne2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda's place was the perfect stop whilst I was walking the John o' Groats trail. From the warm, friendly welcome, lots of character to the house, to kind thoughtful touches such as drying walking boots overnight and offering a lift to the pub for dinner. This is an ideal place to stay for walkers and cyclists

    Caroline2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • For me, Brenda is definitely a super host. After a log day’s cycling her warm welcome, concern for my well being and refreshments made a very pleasant end to the day. I had an excellent night’s sleep in a quiet, spacious room and, for a small extra cost, a delicious, cooked breakfast. The house is fascinating as an example of a traditional town house and is surprisingly larger than expected. I thoroughly recommend staying at Brenda’s, she made me feel at home and treated me like a house guest.

    Robert2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda is a very nice host. We spent one night in a cozy house with a soul. It felt like we were in a movie or in a book of Jane Austen. Everything was perfect. Comfortable bed was a nice end of the day full of experiences. Highly recommended!

    Marta2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home and a really lovely host! Highly recommended.

    Máté2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • When you enter in Brendas house, you have a flashback of some 80 years at least. It's a living museum. Old furniture, beautiful china, big old house full with the history of a family. I prefer much more this than standardised and sterile hotel rooms. Brenda gave is a very warm welcome and helped us a lot to organise the rest of our trip.

The Meadows is close to Wick. A small 18th century croft house renovated recently. It has a private drive and a small garden. It has two bedrooms, one, a good sized double and another which is a very small single room . You are only a 2 minute walk to the local village pub which serves meals.
  • The cottage was lovely, situated in the highlands and offered everything I needed for my holiday, Catherine was great and very helpful she let me check in early as I have been driving all day, she left me to myself but made it very clear that she was there to help if I needed anything. 10 out of 10 for everything can’t wait to stay again!!! 😊

  • We’ve had a lovely stay at the Meadows. Everything we needed was there. Plus T2; Trainspotting pt2 on dvd. It’s what you need up there in the north, a home where you can relax. Lovely shower, good equipment in the kitchen (the pans!!!) A place to return to.

  • This little country home is so quaint and lovely - the garden around the entrance was full of roses in bloom when we arrived and the house is comfortable and just isolated enough to give you a real feeling of peace. We struggled to figure out how to heat the whole place properly but it could have been our own ineptitude... overall we loved our stay!

The Garden Apartment at Thrumster House is set in 20 acres woodland and gardens . The house is situated in the ancient landscape of Caithness, rich in history and stunning scenery with cliff edged coast-line and the start of the flow country being Britain’s last real wilderness. Only half an hour from John O’groats and the Castle of Mey. 5 miles from Wick where the world famous Old Pulteney is distilled. Caithness is also famous for it’s wild brown trout fishing, the Garden apartment comes with fishing on 5 lochs. There are often archeological digs in the summer which welcome volunteers, with or without previous experience.
The Apartment is situated in 20 acres of woodland and is well off the main road, so is good for trained dogs and children, though there is a pond near by, so for young children supervision would be required
  • Ideal place for a family holiday with pets - plenty of space to roam around in.

You’ll love my place because of the location, the people, the ambiance, the quietness, the outside firepit area, the barbecue area, close to the sea and outdoor activities in the surrounding area. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers and families (with kids).
  • Raymond is a very passion and nice person, if you have no idea where you want to go next, he can provide you very detailed information of local. The location of the house only needs 10mins by car from Wick city centre. His house, rooms and everything in the house are clean, beauty and quality. If you are planning for your NC500 road trip. Highly recommend for you.

  • Raymond is an extremely warm and kind host and welcomed us from the word go. He was very thoughtful in booking a meal for us at The Old Smiddy ( a great local pub ) where we had an excellent meal.. We would highly recommend this lovely property and we will definitely come back again

    Lynn2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was simply the best host we've ever had on Airbnb. He was attentive, caring and always made sure we felt comfortable in his home. We were introduced to so many amazing people on New Year's day and were treated to the most amazing live music performances. Raymond isn't just an amazing singer and piano player, but he can also make the most delicious food! Thanks for looking after us so well and for teaching us so many interesting things about Scotland. We'll be back next year! Definitely recommend to others :)

  • Raymond is friendly person. We had comfortable stay at his place.

  • It was a very nice stay - felt like home. Raymond is very sympathic :-)

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Raymond's place! It is well equipped and Raymond made us feel at home immediately. The room was spacious and nicely furnished and the breakfast was very good, too. We can only recommend to stay with Raymond.

Ideal location for your JOGLE or NC500 stop. Warm welcome. Room with double bed and dual control electric blanket . Hairdryer, toiletries, iron and ironing board available. Large en-suite bathroom with shower and bath. Tea/coffee making facilities in room. Continental breakfast served in our kitchen. Private relaxation lounge with free WIFI and parking. Quiet location with beautiful views of the Highland countryside all around. Safe locked area available on site for bicycles and motorcycles.
Welcome to our family home! We have horses, barn cats and a small dog. We offer warm Highland hospitality and a chance to meet the natives! We are all sociable and enjoy meeting new people from different places, but understand also that some people enjoy their space and privacy. Guests are welcome to use our spacious lounge with log burning stove in privacy, or join us for tea and chat in our kitchen. Whilst we are happy for guests to heat up and prepare pre-purchased food in our kitchen, we cannot provide cooking facilities.
Occumster is a small area which has a few scattered houses. It's the perfect location to unwind and escape from people and cars! The village of Lybster is two miles away and has a hotel and shop or the town of Wick is ten miles away and has a larger selection of eateries and shops.
  • Katrina's house is in a great location, just a bit off the track but the ideal place to unwind or explore the area. The room is lovely, the bed is comfy, the hospitality is friendly & warm. The breakfast is continental with heaps of choice. Katrina will go out of her way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

    Sue2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • In a rural setting, Katrina’s place offered a quiet and peaceful location. The bed room was spacious and the large on suite was spotless. Katrina was very welcoming and her tips on places to visit were much appreciated. She provided a nice continental breakfast and refreshments and a fridge in the room was great. Would definitely recommend Katrina’s

  • An absolutely ideal stopover for cyclists doing JOGLE/NC500. Quiet and comfy space to relax and recoup, with a hot shower, tea making facilities in the room (and a great stash of biscuits), and a comfy bed. Stuart and Katrina were really warm and welcoming, yet happy to leave you to relax during your stay. Spot on.

    Dave2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great staying at Katrina’s! The accommodation is very cosy and clean and Katrina is very friendly. Occumster is a quiet and more isolated place, the location was anyway quite strategic for us, since we were walking the John O’Groats Trail.

    Nina2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • A great place in a great location, spotlessly clean, quiet, with a large bathroom. Breakfast was more than sufficient, which was very important for my always-hungry teenage son. I definitely recommend and would stay again any time! And the doggie is just lovely! 🙂

The large kitchen with huge dining table has everything you need. The house is located directly on the thoroughfare but far enough away so that the car noise does not bother. Great view of the North Sea, 10 mi to Wick, there are restaurants, a whiskey distillery, lots of beautiful landscape to breathe. Good base for exploring the Northern Highlands.

Our beautiful home is close to the north coast town of Wick, a mile from the sea as the crow flies. We think you'll love the character of the building and the home we have made. We welcome couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The bedroom is a lovely sized double and can accommodate a child guest if required (travel cot or futon mattress provided). The 1860's building has been out of service as a school for over 40 years but we now have a home that is full of character with plenty of space for everyone to relax and unwind after their day. There have been significant changes to one of the previous classrooms making it a warm and welcoming place to be. Towels, wifi and breakfast provided. We have two cats and a young dog so unfortunately we can't accommodate anymore pets.
We love the peace and tranquility and the wide open spaces, views across the hills to the west and of the sea to the East. All of this with easy access to the local amenities, 500 yds to the characterful local public house & 4 miles to the town of Wick.
  • Jo’s Old Schoolhouse is wonderful! Great hospitality and location. Private use of bathroom and a great breakfast!!

  • We had a really pleasant stay at Jos. The house is amazing! Would definitely recommend it.

    Amélie2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jo's place was truly amazing. She was very communicative and responsive leading up to our stay. We needed a late check in and she was accommodating. When we arrived, she offered tea/coffee and gave us suggestions on dinner nearby. The room was cozy, with amazing views of the country side. We had our own bathroom that was just redone. In the morning, we had a breakfast buffet to put a restaurant to shame. We ended up staying an hour and talking with Jo, just lost track of time. I highly recommend this stay!

    Jacob2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • One night spent at Jo's, a perfect relaxing night in an equally perfect setting, a little stroll right next door allows you to see the sea! Thanks again !

  • This is the second time that my wife and I have stayed at Bradley’s place, a returning client should be enough for anyone to see its great value and a great place to stay. We will be returning again in time. Thank you Bradley.

    Ian2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Just wanted to say again, thank you for letting us enjoy your fantastic property. Was an exceptional stay - and we have stayed in a lot of properties around the world! Everything anyone would need for a shirt stay and the little touches were five star. The offer of fresh eggs from the family chickens, the tea and coffee, etc - nice! When we first read the property had been given a high rate for cleanliness, we thought it would be clean - the place was beyond spotless. We could only give you five stars for your location/furnishings/cleanliness - the view!! We would have gladly given you much more. We look forward to putting your property on our must stay again list, for when we are back in the County! Be proud of your efforts.

    Shaun2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Bradley is a very nice young man, who has made a fantastic luxury space which is self sufficient from the main house. Views of the sea from the living room is totally awesome. He called in to give us information for things to do in the area and brought fresh eggs from his chickens, which was a nice touch. We would love to stay there again.

    Malcolm2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice apartment in an ideal position to stop on the road to the north At the bottom of a dirt road but quietly passable, very quiet, silent Clean and tidy As another guest has already noted, there is no controlled heating but with the electric fireplace I found myself perfectly well

  • Wonderful hospitality and friendly chatty host in a private house on a working croft. Reasonable sized room, with good sized private bathroom next door a few steps down the hall. Great breakfast. All this just yards from the NC500 in an area with lots of historical interested.

Toftcarl Cottage is situated on the North Coast 500 route. Set in a rural location but only a 2 minute drive to the nearest town of Wick. Only a 10 minute drive to John o Groats, great for ferry crossing for exploring the Orkney Isles. Nearby are the castles of Oldwick, Sinclair & Girnigoe and the old stones steps of Whaligoe to name a few of the rich Heritage sites of Caithness.
Beautiful view of surrounding area, rural location but not off the beaten track. Easy access to nearest towns/facilities. Fully equipped home with all necessities included.
Lovely quiet location but on the main route North or South. Very safe area to live.
  • I highly recommend Hilda's place. Quiet, clean, great view.

    Pablo2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • stayed here and it just got everything you need and not only that it’s clean and fresh with the fire as an extra bonus! It almost become a home away from home for us, perfectly set along the road Nc500 but still quiet with a gorgeous view of the sunsets and the lovely animals. Hilda is a lovely host, although we did not see her in person this time, there is still good contact and fast responses to any requirements! Again, great wee place and we will probably be back once more, Thanks Hilda! 😃

    Beata2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for one night during our NC500 road trip. The cottage is located directly on the A99 trunk road. Traffic on the road is very light at night and we did not have any problem with the road noise. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The host kindly left a pint of milk and some teabags, as well as a box of chocolates and fresh flowers. There is nowhere to eat within walking distance but plenty of options in Wick which is only 2 miles up the road.

    Andy2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Toftcarl Cottage is lovely little place opposite Loch Hempriggs a couple of miles from Wick. Secluded but not too remote, next to the NC500 Route but peaceful, we found it a perfect spot. Great for exploring the area and beyond which we did plenty of. The cottage itself is all on one floor and ideal. Large main bedroom, small bedroom, cosy siting room, modern kitchen and a bathroom with shower over the bath. Hilda's directions were excellent and was on hand to communicate with if needed. Oh, an added bonus was the cows and calves who popped up everyday in the fields around the cottage and were curious enough to look through the wire fence into the kitchen window! Lovely as was our stay. Highly recommended.

    Jason2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • I did not have the opportunity to meet Hilda because we arrived a little late, but everything was perfect! Hilda is very responsive as soon as we have a question and always urges to contact her at the slightest need! The house is very warm, with everything you need to feel good. Isolated just enough to be in the middle of nature and meadows, the living room facing the lake, which allows every evening to enjoy the sunset over the lake from the sofa. But the house is still close to amenities, just 5 minutes from supermarkets and the city, a real gem! Feel free to go with your eyes closed, Hilda is full of little touches for you and the house is really adorable

    Célia2019-08-22T00:00:00Z

  • Elspeth's place is situated on a working farm just off the road in Dunbeath. Quiet and comfortable bedroom that had a tea kettle and snacks. Plus Elspeth recommended a great restaurant down the street, Bay Owl, and even offered to take us there and back if we wanted to have some drinks! Wonderful hospitality from her and her parent's who also live there. Her mom cooks a super good breakfast as well; and you get to look at the cows/ocean in the morning!

The whole family went above and beyond what we had expected. This was our first experience using AirBnB and I was a little apprehensive. However, we were welcomed with open arms (and cakes) and I would definitely recommend a stay here. We so look forward to returning and staying in this beautiful part of Scotland with Elspeth and her family 😊

  • Wonderful stay with a great family. The room was peaceful , spotless and comfortable and home made jam and marmalade at breakfast. Great local knowledge which helped us find out about our connections to the area. We saw some stunning gardens that we would have missed if Elspeth hadn’t arranged for us to see them. Great local food at the Bay Owl in too.

    Suzy2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent hospitality with everyone making you feel as welcome as possible.

    Gavin2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for a lovely stay, we really enjoyed the chats in the kitchen and the barn. Such a family atmosphere and for us, an instant farm connection. This stay was very special for us and we hope to come back to Dunbeath some day.

  • Elspeth, (and her mum, Mary), are exceptional hostesses who go that extra mile to make sure that your stay is comfortable, and to offer any help that you might need, on the whole. Our stay was absolutely perfect. Thank you.

We are situated at the clifftop overlooking the North Sea, just at the top of the Whaligoe Steps. The views are wonderful, the area is peaceful (although those lambs can be quite noisy), and we run one of the most highly regarded restaurants in the North Highlands, so the food will be excellent. We are proud to announce that we have also just been awarded a Good Food Award for 2019, one of only 4 establishments in the Highlands to have received this.
You will be greeted with tea or coffee, and something sweet in the afternoon. The bedroom is simply but elegantly decorated, and the bathroom is shared (with one other room). There is a modern power shower, handbasin & toilet in this newly renovated room. You may choose to have a basic cereal breakfast (included in the room price), or a full cooked Scottish breakfast @ £7.50 per person. Evening meals are available, and we offer a discount of 10% from our menu prices (which are already very reasonable), for guests who are using our room.
Situated at the top of the Whaligoe Steps, and just across the road from Loch Wattenon, and the Cairn of Get. Lots of lovely landscape to see within just a few minutes walk.
  • Beautiful views, wonderful hosts, and cute dogs and cat running around what more could you ask for? Karen and John are great to talk with and very hospitable! I only wish I had stayed longer to enjoy it more!

  • Be sure to check the directions the gps may send you to the end of the world. A unique location, lovely host, good food and gateway to the most Northern areas. Drive to the conditions we saw a serious accident in foggy conditions.

    David2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Karen and John were excellent and friendly hosts and their place is pretty unique. Well worth the visit.

    Gavin2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible location! Friendly and helpful hosts! Cafe food is good if you need a meal.

    Kevin2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location over looking Whaligoe. Lots to do and see in the area. Cafe run by the hosts serves amazing, unique dishes. Very impressed!

    Shelly2019-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a real find! One of the most extraordinary locations in Scotland at the top of the spectacular Whaligoe Steps, this Airbnb also happens to be a gourmet cafe run by the remarkable Karen and John. The room is comfortable with a great view but it will be the food and the interesting conversation that lives on in our memories!

    Tom2019-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location and perfect for those on the John O'Groats coastal path. remarkable comfort and hospitality from two professionals who go the extra mile to make you feel at home in every respect. The AirBnB philosophy of being in someones home and feeling local has long past at most locations. Here you feel like the spirit of Air BnB is alive and well. A must stay!

    Geoff2019-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Charming room in a magnificant spot. You'll be the guest of two really cool people and their lovely dogs, who definitely put and are still putting a lot of effort into their café (definitely worth a visit even if you dont stay overnight) and their home. Also, the house is located near the whaligoe steps which are a truly impressive sight. Would definitely come back!

Moments off the A9, on the famous North Coast 500 road, this stunning cottage has the most amazing views in Dunbeath. New to the holiday let market and tastefully decorated the two bedroom property is a fantastic base for enjoying time in the area as families, friends or if you simply need a night away! The living room with its fireplace is cosy in the winter months for enjoying a dram, yet in summer months the patio doors open onto the decking where you can make use of the BBq!
With a fully equipped kitchen , TV, Bluetooth speaker and gas BBQ- the owners really have tried to think of everything. You will recieve a personal welcome to this property and the owners really will take care of you! The bedrooms are both double beds- perfect for couples or for friends/ families who are happy to share! One well behaved pet allowed on discussion. This property is just off the main Scrabster to Inveress bus route, however we do always recommend travelling by car, as getting around in this area without a car isn't the easiest! The property also has a lockable space available outside the property. Perfect for anyone travelling with bikes, canoes, fishing rods etc. Guests love this property due to the breathtaking views and having a place to completely switch off. You won't be disappointed when staying here! What's to do in the area? The cottage is located in close proximity to the village of Dunbeath which is best known as the birthplace of the famous author Neil Gunn. In the village there is a small peaceful harbour and beach and the beautiful Dunbeath strath which his novel Highland River is based on . You will also find a post office, spar shop and the highly recommended Bay Owl restaurant. The cottage overlooks the Dunbeath Bay and over to Dunbeath Castle which it’s world famous gardens are open by appointment. There is also Lhaidhay croft museum, heritage centre and historic broch. As the cottage is part of a working farm, horses, cattle, sheep, dogs and pet lambs can be seen on the farm The cottage is close to the A9 and is only a 2 hour drive from Inverness airport and is only a half hour drive from Wick airport and the Orkney Island ferry terminals at Gills Bay and Scrabster. It is an excellent centre for walking, cycling, surfing, kayaking, hill walking, golfing, archaeology, bird watching and especially the magnificent puffin colony that can be seen from the farm’s cliff tops. Attractions 15 mins Whaligoe steps Camster cairns Yarrows archaeology trail 30 mins Castle of Mey John o Groats Pultney distillery Dunnet Head and sands 45 minutes Dunrobin Castle Glenmorangie Distillery Falls of Shin visitor centre
  • The house is beautiful and the location is stunning but what made it extra special was the warmth of the welcome. This is a fascinating part of the country with so much to discover and we’re very glad we unexpectedly pitched up here. Cella’s response to our late request was swift and welcoming and everything in the house was perfect. Elspeth and William helped us settle in and gave us excellent ideas for exploring the treasures of an under appreciated area.

    Linda2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We used this immaculate cottage as a stop on the NC500 route It is a very quaint well equipped converted barn which is beautifully done The owners are lovely Loads of parking and located on its own on a small good access road with open fields around it Great coastal views Loved it

    Peter2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is truly beautiful, lot's of love and care has gone into the accommodation. Elspeth and William's hospitality is exceptional, they truly want to make sure your stay is perfect. Elspeth had put some wonderful thoughtful touches all around the cottage and when we checked in was super helpful plus got the log burner going for us. The outside seating is amazing and has great views of the sea, unfortunately it was wet and cold when we arrived so we didn't have the luxury of sitting outside to gaze at the sea and the stars. The bathroom and shower is fabulous also the beds are comfy. I would highly recommend booking and for more than one night if there is availability. We were driving the NC500 and didn't have the time to stopover for that long, however we will definitely book again if in the area.

  • This place is a jewel. From the outside it seems typical but inside it warms your heart. It feels very cosy and welcoming. Everything you need is available, plentiful and in tip top condition. Each utensil lies in perfect order. Personal treats and pleasant surprises are all over. The styiling makes you feel at home (after the cleaning lady left and before the kids returned). Views are lovely. The owners are very pleasant and provided some useful local tips. We wished we have stayed for longer. Highly recommended.

    Sefi2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this cottage. It is very clean, is nice & cosy and has a great view on the sea. But even more importantly, the hospitality from the owners is amazing. We were given a personal tour of the cottage. We also got some homemade cookies, homemade marmalade, eggs from the farm for our breakfast... There was even a fire prepared. We just had to light it and we could sit back & relax. Our son was also welcomed & the owner showed us some toys for him to play with. We also got some tips for things to do around the area & on the phone bedoel our arrival we were asked if we needed booking for a restaurant. Definitely one of the warmest welcomes we ever had in an AirBnB! We highly recommend this cottage and would love to come back some day.

    Joost2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This property is an unexpected gem boasting magnificent coastline views from a newly renovated stone cottage. The family that owns the cottage live in a farmhouse nearby and provide five star Scottish hospitality and kindness. We could not have asked for more.

  • This is a super cottage! Unbelievable view! The rooms are super clean and the cottage is fully equipped. Just like at home! I would love to stay longer next I stay!

Situated 4 miles southwest of Wick, Blingery (pronounced 'gingery') House was originally built as a shooting lodge. The house, of a traditional stone and slate construction, has far-reaching views of Blingery Farmland surrounded by sheep and Highland cattle. It has a large, private rear garden and ample parking. Traditional in style, Blingery House boasts some lovely original features and open fires and is ideal for guests seeking a peaceful, get-away-from-it-all location. A super weekend break.
The accommodation is set over 2 floors. The ground floor consists of a well equipped dining-kitchen, 2 comfortable reception rooms and a sunny garden room. Also on this floor, there is a large twin bedroom with a sofa and feature fireplace and a newly fitted wet-room with shower, WC, wash-hand basin and underfloor heating. On the first floor there are 2 characterful double bedrooms. These are served by a further bathroom with shower over the bath, WC and wash-hand basin.
  • Amazing stay in a fantastic house! All the rooms were lovely and there was so much space

    Stephanie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • An impressive and imposing residence surrounded by farmland. We loved the grand manor feel of it and the gardens are lovely, well designed and cared for. It is quite an experience staying here. A step back into Pride And Prejudice. It was lot of fun. Great for big groups and families. Too big for just one couple but a large family or two or three, perfect!

    Judy2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of 4 adults and 5 children have just spent a week at Blingery. The house is extremely clean and has all the needed for a nice week away, a home from home. The location couldn't be better, in the middle of nowhere, away from the city. Only us and fields full animals. Perfect for exploring the Scottish coastline. Would definitely recommend the place.

    Glenn2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, roomy house and great location to visit the coast, so the surfers in the group were happy. Description was accurate; everyone enjoyed the week.

  • Fantastic weekend. Superb family house. Excellent host.

    Linda2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Blingery house is remote but easy to find. This is the perfect place to go to if you're looking for a relaxing family/big group of friends time! During our stay, Kim was extremely easy to reach and answered our questions thoroughly, the house was spotless and exceptional. I recommend it strongly!

  • We had a great time here on a family trip in this beautiful part of Scotland. The house is very big yet also comfortable and cosy and we slept very well. The rate we got it at was a total bargain and I didn’t meet her but the farm manager was apparently very helpful. Lovely garden too. Thank you!

Thrumster House is set in 20 acres of gardens and woodland . This Victorian property is a former laird’s house with an Iron Age Broch structure in the grounds along with a walled garden and pond with a summerhouse. The house was designed to host parties of friends who would meet to enjoy all the activities associated with a family-run country estate. We maintain the old-world ambience of a traditional sporting holiday in relaxed and friendly surroundings. Enjoy sitting by the fire place in the grand entrance hall framed by a galleried landing. You can enjoy walks around the grounds and the surrounding woodland, and there are several lochs on which there is free fly-fishing for wild brown trout . Thurso and the north coast are a 35-minute drive from the property. From here you can catch a ferry to the Orkney Islands. • It was hard to leave Yarrows Cottage. It was such a beautiful and comfortable place. We felt like we got a real taste of the Highlands, and Highlands hospitality. It’s really close to some neat historical sites -Cairn O’Get, castle Sinclaire Girnigoe, Old Wick Castle, and Whaligoe Steps (The Whaligoe Cafe is AWESOME and a must go). We will certainly explore the Yarrows Archaeological Trail when we return. The WIFI was perfect once we let our devices connect.

  • Yarrow's cottage is in a perfectly quiet and peaceful spot. Waking to beautiful views of the Loch, and sitting by the log fire in the evening as the sun fades over the hills. There are several castles within driving distance and miles of stunning coastline.

    Jeanette2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine is really friendly and quick to respond to emails. This wee Caithness Housie is in the most idilic location, I loved its old charm. Catherine has it really comfortable and cosy. The location is so peaceful and beautiful looking out on to Loch Yarrows, there are no words to describe how amazing it is.
