Places to stay in Holne
A luxurious, rustic haven away from it all. The luxury bits: French linen bedding, robes, soft towels & toiletries, woodburner, a good book, no street lights...You'll probably sleep better than you have in years. The rustic bits: There's a simple compost toilet, hot water in a generous sink and flannels, but no shower.
Our guests often say their stay in the cabin felt like a little pause from the real world. A moment to recharge. We've left it as simple as we can, without foregoing any of the little things that make relaxing time out peaceful and happy. The kitchen is properly equipped, including a fridge and little Belling oven, there's fresh ground coffee, tea, herbs teas, sugar, and a selection of board games, books, and off-the-beaten-track magazines. But our wifi doesn't reach the cabin, and we've not made any attempts to change that. If you do need access to the internet, you are welcome to pop into our house and connect to our network, but we also suspect that you'll be quite glad of the excuse to ignore your emails for a brief moment.
Landscove is a pretty and highly sought-after village in the South Hams. A village hall, a fantastic gastro pub, primary school and church are about the only things that interrupt the organically-farmed fields and Devon lanes, and with no street lights in the area the nights are blissful, and the stars shine bright.
  • Lovely cabin in a great location. Has everything you need for a cosy and relaxing time away. Would definitely recommend this place and Andrea was a great host.

Breakfast is not included. A Widecombe is a historic village, with its parish church rightly known as the cathedral of the moor. it is also home to the famous widecombe fair. The area is surrounded by beautiful Tors and streams. Hidden valleys contain the remains of many past settlements, from medieval villages destroyed by the black death, to stone age and bronze age hut circles. the world famous Merrivale stone row is only half hours drive away. Horse riding and canoeing are also popular local activities. surrounding villages and towns offer regular farmers markets, with a taste of local (website hidden) most of these villages you will find a warm welcome in their tearooms and inns. the larger villages also home their own traditional country fair, emphasising country music and folk dancing. Many of Dartmoors long distance walks pass this way, including the very popular two moor way which links the south Dartmoor coast with the Exmoor coast. Best to bring your own car to really indulge your self here on the moors.
once out of our gate you are on open moor. we are on the side of Wind Tor and the route of the Two Moors way. plenty of cattle, sheep and ponies all around us. It takes a little longer, but it is possible to walk to the village across the moor instead of country lanes. We have plenty of maps and guide books to help you! Also in bad weather we can loan you raincoat and wellington boots. Hopefully not needed.
  • We had a great time at Miho's place. Miho and her husband were very nice and we really enjoyed Dartmoor park and the surrounding area.

    Jure2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Miho and Peter are great hosts and Berrymoor is in a wonderful location, right on the edge of the moor and with the most stunning views. Widecombe is just a five minute drive away and has two great pubs, and Haytor and Hound Tor are also close by (plus many other smaller tors besides), which are great fun to scramble up. Recommend the Ullacombe Farm Shop and cafe between Haytor and Bovey Tracy - great for breakfast on check out day! The National Trust’s Parke Estate just outside Bovey also had a nice-looking cafe - sadly we were just too late to try it out; it closes at 4pm during the winter season. We hope very much to return to Berrywood in the future. Many thanks for your hospitality Miho and Peter (... not forgetting Rusty the cat!)

  • We were very comfortable at Berrywood for the 9 nights we stayed in mid October. It was lovely and warm to come back to at the end of a day’s walking on beautiful Dartmoor, especially if we had got caught in a rain shower, which you do get a few of! It is perfectly situated, high up to take advantage of the beautiful views across the valley towards Top Tor. You can walk straight out onto the Moor - go up behind the cottage, to Wind Tor and then on and on for miles across beautiful moorland. You can also walk over the Moor to Widecombe to the pubs or cafes. When we arrived Miho had left some lovely extras for us, a sweet treat after the journey, breakfast cereals, bread, butter, milk and eggs. There were also teabags and ground coffee in the well equipped kitchen. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. The shower in the bathroom is very good and there is always lots of hot water. Peter and Miho are excellent hosts, very welcoming, with extensive knowledge of the Moor and gave us lots of tips and advice on good places to walk if we needed it. And we enjoyed a special evening with them at a music event in the next village. In the cottage there is also a vast library of maps and literature to help plan your stay. I must just mention the stunning views from the main bedroom window. Always changing with the weather, it was so relaxing to drink a cup of tea and watch the landscape changing beneath the amazing skies. Thank you Miho and Peter!

    Rosemary2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • All five-star ratings are rather unpleasant, but Berrywood Cottage and Miho's hospitality were just right. A trip to Dartmoor, which has always been a dream, became the best memory. I'm really thankful to you! I would like to revisit again.

    Eriko2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The morning and evening views from the large windows in the bedroom are the best whether it is cloudy or sunny. The view of the nomadic sheep and the hail is also fantastic. The kitchen was complete and I wanted to cook using the oven if I had time. Personally, the point is that there are a lot of towels! It was really helpful to have the laundry serviced! !

    Nami2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage with stunning views. We were welcomed warmly by the host on arrival and shown very graciously around and informed of where everything was. The host also left some very tasty treats for us in the kitchen.

    Alan2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic quiet beautiful location with great hosts!

    Bella2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable cottage in an amazing location. Miho and Peter were very kind and careful hosts and we felt very much at home as soon as we arrived. There were generous provisions for breakfast and the house had everything we needed for our stay.

Widecombe in the Moor, devon, United Kingdom

Remotely situated in middle of Dartmoor, near hamlet of Hexworthy, 13 miles from Yelverton. Comfortable granite barn conversion with its own garden in working farm yard, offers self catering base in the Dartmoor National Park. Open plan living space, exposed beams, AGA and king sized bed. Ideal for exploring Dartmoor on foot, by car or by bike. A bridle path runs through the yard should you want to walk to Hexworthy, Princetown, Postbridge or beyond. Pick up/drop off service available at cost.
A converted granite barn, it has painted stone walls and exposed beams. The open plan living space is warm and welcoming. It has most amenities (shower/washing machine/AGA) but is free from many of the distractions of modern life, there is no traffic or light pollution; the nearest mobile phone signal is half a mile up the hill. Get away from the world for a week! Please note the cottage has a shower room, no bath so no long soaks but who would want to with all of Dartmoor to explore!
Please note we are 13 miles from Yelverton, that is our postal town. See map for our specific location as we are situated remotely in the middle of Dartmoor. You and the farmers are the only people for quarter of a mile but yet if you travel to a local pub of an evening you will find a thriving (and surprisingly diverse) local community. Our local, The Forest Inn, has yummy lunch and evening menus and is within easy walking distance. The Warren House Inn, The Rugglestone and The Old Inn are all local favourites. Ideal for those who like to walk in wild country, fish (permit required) or see iconic sites such as the Clapper Bridge at Postbridge, Haytor rocks, Dartmoor Prison or visit our local market towns.
  • This is an amazing place. Fantastic setting on a working farm and Alison and Anton very welcoming (as were the farm dogs). Lower Barn is really cosy with everything you could need.

  • If getting away from it all in the heart of Dartmoor is what you're looking for then go no further than The Lower Barn at Sherberton! A perfect cosy cottage in the most idyllic setting with every comfort catered for. Comfortable bed, great shower, well equipped kitchen, and an Aga that keeps everthing snug and excellent for drying clothes after wet walks. It is also very peaceful. The Wifi is excellent so lack of mobile signal wasn't an issue. Alison and Anton are great hosts, thinking of everything..the delicious cake you left for us was a lovely touch. We so much enjoyed talking to you both about the farm and surrounding area, tips on walks etc. We highly recommend this place....if you love Dartmoor, going for walks and returning to a warm, quiet, cosy cottage then this is for you! We look forward to coming again! Imogen and David

Within the heart of the Dartmoor national park, there are amazing moorland walks directly from the cabin as well as 2 local pubs within waling distance. The cabin has 1 bedroom with a double and 2 single beds. There is a fully functioning kitchen and dining/living room with a log burner. There is a double sofa bed within the living area. Private toilet and shower. Garden with table, fire and BBQ. Ideal for families or groups of friends. Logs can be ordered on request . Nearest town is 3 miles.
  • Huck's cabin is located in a beautiful wooded River valley near the working farm, and is well-situated for days out on Dartmoor with locations like Chagford, Postbridge and Two Bridges only short drive away, as well as the beautiful Buckfast Abbey which is only 10 minutes away by car. We went in winter and it was quite cold, so we recommend bringing plenty of layers and plenty of logs for the wood burner to get cosy! It's a great hideaway from hectic modern life and a chance to remove yourself from an over-reliance on technology (there's no TV and patchy phone signal!)

    Thomas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in the cabin. Fairly basic, but had all the essentials we needed. Great use of space (plenty room for three single adults). Log burner took a while to warm the place up, but then it was nice and cosy. Lovely to be so immersed in nature.

    Matt2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time in Huck’s cabin. Didn’t manage to get the fire going as didn’t have any kindling and the wood was a bit damp but we were still warm nonetheless. We met a nice pheasant called Hank who had morning coffee with us and let us stroke him. Nice one Hank. Will definitely come back but in the summer so we can make the most of the beautiful surroundings. Thanks!

    Joanne2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little cabin in beautiful spot. Basic but well stocked. Log burner great for cold days. Being tea towels and towels. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Jill2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and cozy cabin. Wood burner the star for rainy days. Great location for exploring Dartmoor.

    Shaun2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gave me and my friends just what we wanted and great benefit having a garden area with bbq/fire pit. Great for a weekend with friends. Close to nice walks etc

    Mounsey862019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time in the cabin. The listing on here doesn’t do the place justice! The location is beautiful (especially the stream at the bottom), it was so peaceful and well tended to. We packed everything you would normally expect to have to take to go camping however we needn’t have worried as pretty much everything is provided! I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

    Gemma2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Really cosy, tucked away from busy roads and very family friendly. You can use both the barbeque and gas stove for cooking. Many thanks to a previous guest for the tip on getting the shower working, make sure you turn the hot tap on and off whilst the shower is on to get it working! We really enjoyed our stay, the cabin is ideal for couples or families :)

  • If you are looking for a welcoming place to stay with gorgeous views and minutes from the moors this is perfect. We stayed during storm ciara and it was perfect! We have stayed at many different self catering places and we have never had such a well appointed property, little touches like cooking oil and milk make self catering so much easier. Plus having a washer dryer is a big bonus when you are walking the moors in a storm! Our dogs were welcomed too with a cute basket of towels etc and treats!! We enjoyed visiting the local pub and the local community shop is just great. We look forward to going back

    Vanessa2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely spot with magnificent views and an amazing garden. The thoughtful touches made for a hone away from home stay and our dog was made to feel he was as welcome as we were! Alex met us on arrival and had lots of helpful suggestions for places to eat and things to do. Thoughtful touches such as the security gate remote made coming and going easy on the dark autumn nights coming back from the pub. Highly recommended 👍🙂

  • Samantha and her family we so welcoming, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Walkers Retreat is set alongside their home in amazing grounds on the edge of Dartmoor with easy access to all areas. The accommodation has everything you could possibly need, we visited with our 7 month old son and wanted for nothing. I highly recommend Walkers Retreat to anybody visiting Dartmoor.

    Lee2019-08-02T00:00:00Z

Shuttaford Barn is a recently converted barn on a 16thC Dartmoor farmstead on the edge of the moors next to Holne and Ashburton. It is the perfect spot to explore the wilds of Dartmoor, walk along the beautiful River Dart or head to the many South Devon beaches for the day. Or just relax in the peaceful surroundings of the barn and its garden. For summer months we generally do Friday to Friday bookings. Please message us if you want to discuss other days or duration of stay.
The architect designed conversion has created a modern rustic feel to the space, reusing many of the original materials with vintage furnishings and a large double height country kitchen. Underfloor heating runs throughout the lower floor to give a luxurious and homely feel on bare feet in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Large cast iron radiators upstairs to make sure whatever the weather the barn remains warm and cosy. An en-suite kingsize bedroom and twin bedroom are located downstairs, along with a family bathroom (with a luxurious rolltop bath and separate shower) and large kitchen dining space. A staircase leads up to the main living space which has a 'loft' feel, and another double bedroom with a built in bed 'nook'. The generous living room has a double sided woodburner and two seating areas, large rooflights provide a light and airy feel and a big opening window gives views out to the surrounding hills. A sofa bed is located in the living space for larger parties and we can provide a travel cot for babies. Lots of books and games are provided for entertainment as well as TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and dvd player (and plenty of dvd's).
Shuttaford Barn is located in a hidden valley just outside the village of Holne and next to Ashburton. Holne has an excellent community run village shop, and a soon to re-open pub. It is less than a 10 minute drive to the nearby towns of Ashburton and Buckfastleigh with local shops, cafes and restaurants. Ashburton has a fantastic selection of local food shops, a deli, bakery, fish deli, butchers and farmers market. A 5 minutes drive takes you up onto the open moorland of Dartmoor or down to the River Dart with its magical walks and wild swimming spots. You can walk from the house or head up to the moor, plenty of maps and walking books are provided. The town of Totnes is a 20 minute drive with lots of cafes, restaurants, shops and markets. Nearby places to visit for foodies include Riverford Farm and Field Kitchen and Sharpham Vineyard. The nearest beaches are an easy 30-40 minutes drive with plenty of options for surfing all along the south Devon coast. The nearby A38 (less than 10 minutes) allows easy access to Exeter, Plymouth and beyond.
  • The most lovely barn at the most wonderful place!

    Lise2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible weekend spent at Shuttaford! A beautiful barn, incredibly well designed and thought out with personal touches. A really peaceful location, in easy reach of Dartmoor, beaches and local villages. Francesca was an excellent host - we felt incredibly welcome as did our children. We will definitely be returning for another stay soon.

    Kate2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location and space! The Barn is an exceptional space - with a beautiful open kitchen, lovely bath, great nooks to read by the fire, wonderful bedrooms, all tucked in a valley surrounded by magical hills. The design, comfort, amazing location, amenities, cleanliness, interior style and natural beauty were beyond our expections. Fran and Phil were very welcoming and accommodating - leaving special coffee, biscuits and wine (we are big coffee drinkers). The location was perfect for us - close enough to get to a town but equally easy to walk out the door and go for a hike. My husband and I loved it so much we booked an extra night which was well worth it as we walked to the local pub under a full moon that evening. I will be recommending this spot to all of our friends and family in the U.S. We definitely hope to make it back again and stay longer. THANK YOU, Cynthia & Jeremy p.s. I would plan on arriving during the day as the location can be a bit challenging to find the first time round.

  • My family of four and another family of four enjoyed a wonderful week over the New Year period at this beautiful barn conversion. The backdrop of the Dartmoor scenery was stunning and surpassed all of our expectations. Fran was a very helpful host and there if we needed anything which we didn’t as everything was so thoughtfully provided.

    Diana2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful house! 4 friends and I stayed at Francesca’s place for a long weekend. Fran was so welcoming, even lending us an egg one evening to save us driving into town! And the space was sparkling clean and beautiful. Everything you could have wished for.

We stayed at the time of the second February storms (Dennis) but other than a few flooding roads on the way this didn't cause us a problem. We arrived to a lit wood burner which Tom kindly sorted before hand. Everything was spotless. A lot of thought has gone into this accommodation to make it a perfect stay. The bed is amazingly comfortable and we both slept soundly. It may look small but I fitted in at over 6 foot. The kitchen was very well equipped. We brought lots of extras with us that we didn't need, tea, milk etc. Tom has provided the essentials and lots of very kind extras including the daffodils and books and games . The accommodation is very secluded so if that's what you are after its perfect. If you want local shops, a pub, stuff to do then its not for you We will definitely be back to stay again during the warmer months as it would be nice to see the organic garden sprung to life. We would definitely recommend this unique little find.

  • Tom is an excellent host - really welcoming and helpful. Had a beautiful stay, the place is pristine and provides everything you’d need for a short getaway. The location is great and allows for lots of privacy during your stay.

  • We had such a perfect time at Tom's cabin for my partners 30th! It has everything you need and we were lucky enough that Tom was available to show us round his organic farm and introduce us to his horses. Such a wonderful location and would recommend for anyone to stay here for a cosy getaway! The log burner was lit for our arrival and we enjoyed a delicious bottle of apple juice from the farm. Just idealic.

  • A lovely peaceful and cosy place to stay. The fire already lit and eggs from the farm on arrival was a nice welcoming touch. Very easy to check in and hosts always available if needed. Will definitely come to stay again.

  • A lovely place in a lovely location. Perfect cosy, getaway in Dartmoor but with everything you need to be comfortable. The wood burning stove was particularly great!

    Lucy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for some R&R! No tv, a log fire, Dartmoor walks with our dog, it was bliss. We had a really relaxing stay and would thoroughly recommend. Widecome is just down the road and has some lovely pubs and cafes as well.

    Sally2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place in a beautiful remote part of Dartmoor. Perfect for those rainy days (we had our fair share) and the abundance of wood for the wood burner meant a wonderful relaxing stay with a cozy fire despite the weather. Stephen and family were very kind and helpful and were always available if needed. Thank you for a great stay.

    Donna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Yonder Shippon was well equipped, cosy with a brilliant wood burner and comfy bed making it a perfect pace to relax and unwind. It is brilliantly positioned for great walks from the cottage up on to the moor and so much to visit near by. We will be back.

    Lesley2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and cosy cottage in Dartmoor with everything you could possibly need for a weekend (or longer!) away. Great location near Widecombe in the Moor, with walks, a lovely pub, and attractions nearby. Stephen was quick to respond to any messages and available during the stay if we had any issues. The fresh eggs from the chickens in next door field were a lovely (and tasty) surprise!

    Sara2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We wanted a rural getaway for a few days where we could explore Dartmoor and relax by a fire. Our stay at Yonder Shippon could not have been better. We arrived around 9pm, Stephen was kind enough to come out meet us at a junction just up the road as we had gotten lost in the dark! We were welcomed into the property with a roaring fire, which we made use of each morning and evening. The house is beautifully designed and decorated with a mezzanine floor, quality furnishings and plenty of utensils to cook. It was wonderful surprise having fresh eggs on arrival and ample firewood for our three days. Being able to wander around the farm was a real bonus as was waking up to expansive views of the surrounding hills. We hiked and biked around Dartmoor in what was pretty rough weather until the last day where sunshine and clear skies showed us what the area really had to offer and we were kindly allowed to checkout later to make the most of it! Outdoor storage beneath the lean-to was useful for our bikes and our host was communicative throughout. Overall, we could not have had a better stay. After a days out on the hills, coming back to cosy accommodation, with great views, fire, comfy bed and generally everything you needed, just led to a perfect stay. We have already recommended it to others and shall definitely be coming to stay again.

Welcome to 69a North Street, our grade ll listed town house in the centre of Ashburton. Through our front door and along a passageway you come to 69b, an annex with its own private entrance sharing our beautiful cobbled courtyard. Through a stable door and up a flight of stairs is a large light filled room that has a super king bed or two generous singles, a sofa and a table and chairs. Downstairs is a shower room as well as a separate utility space with tea and coffee facilities.
Just a 2 minute walk from the centre of Ashburton, 69b is tucked away from the street and is surprisingly secluded. You are welcome to enjoy the small courtyard with its rambling grape vine and table and chairs. Our garden tends to be used by our two young boys, if its quiet (or you don’t mind their games) you’re welcome to use it. A light breakfast is provided for you to serve yourself in the room. The Victoria Inn is 4 doors away and serves pub lunch and evening meals at the weekend and we are just a few minutes walk from many other great places to eat and drink. We do not have private parking, but there is plenty of on-street parking outside and a long stay car park in the center of the town.
  • Tanya’s place is very handy for the centre of Ashburton. Breakfast is lovely and the room is spacious and light. Tanya was very helpful with tips for local restaurants.

  • The annexe is a great place to stay, with its own private access so that you don't feel like you are disturbing the family. The photos give a good impression of the accommodation but I would say that it actually exceeded expectation. Everything was extremely clean and very comfortable. The location is great being just on the edge of town so a quick walk for an evening drink or meal and of course easy access to the surrounding beautiful countryside. I will certainly stay here again.

A quite and peaceful rural location with stunning views, on the outskirts of Ashburton only 15mins walk into the town centre. I am a dog friendly B&B and can provide guided walks along magical river valleys and across the moors. I run a dog boarding and walking business so guests do need to be comfortable with dogs as sometimes there are up to 2 dogs including my own

Beautiful character cottage set on the outskirts of The Dartmoor National Park. A peaceful, secluded hideaway with period features throughout, this tasteful conversion provides all the comfort and style for a truly unique holiday experience. River Garden Cottage is our sister property to our other Buckfastleigh holiday home The Old Stables
A beautiful, 18th Century cottage, bursting with original features, with a private South facing garden next to a river. Positioned in a quite private lane, just off Buckfastleigh high street, River Garden Cottage provides a bright, relaxing, characterful home, ideal for exploring the wonderful Devon countryside by day before returning for cosy evenings in by the log burning fire. Stepping into the open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, you'll find an abundance of exposed stonework, oak flooring and beams, matched with rustic and original furniture and fittings. A short distance from the cottage is a private lawned garden, with a seating area over looking the fast flowing River Mardle. We provide a parking permit allowing use of any of the four near-by town car parks. There is also a private parking space with a narrow access for a small to medium sized car approximately 100 meters from the cottage.
  • What a lovely, warm, stylish cottage with everything you need. A friend and I stayed there to attend a course which is run locally, so chose it to be near to the venue. We were therefore pleasantly surprised at how quaint and pretty the street and this cottage were, so the ideal setting for a country holiday or break . Paul was the perfect host sending a helpful message with lots of details a few days before our stay. When we had a problem with the boiler one morning he responded to my text immediately and within the hour someone was on our doorstep to fix it. We hope to book again for a few nights when we return for the final part of our course in a few months time.

    Claire2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Really helpful host, very responsive to messages, instructions were detailed and concise. Could rely on Paul to reply immediately when trying to find local parking or questions about how to operate the amenities in the house. Lovely and comfortable space!

  • Pauls cottage is a little gem. It is immaculately presented. The welcome gift of local produce was a thoughtfull touch and all tasted delicious. We experienced some awful weather during our stay but the cottage was always warm, dry and comfortable to come back too. A goods night sleep was always had aswell on the comfortable beds. Will certainly be staying here again.

  • The cottage was wonderful, spotlessly clean, characterful with all the amenities we needed for our stay. The garden next to the river was a real bonus and we spent a few evenings enjoying the space. Paul was a great host and always available if needed. Being located right in the centre of Buckfastleigh allowed us to enjoy the lovely surroundings, local pubs, shops and a great Chinese takeaway! Our sons loved the skate park and open-air heated lido. If you’re looking for more children entertainment options, the River Dart country park was brilliant and only 15 minutes away by car. Thank you Paul for a wonderful stay and we will definitely see you again!

A peaceful, secluded, light and bright cabin, next to the river Ash a mile outside of Ashburton. The cabin is simply furnished, with futon, sofa, woodburner, tea and coffee making facilities, and organic breakfast. It is in our 1 acre garden, and has its own garden space, with outside table, chairs and fire bowl. There is a compost toilet close by and a shared shower room in the main house. There is no running water in the cabin, but there is a crock dispensing pure Dartmoor water for you.
The cabin is situated in our 1 acre garden, next to the river and nestled between woods in the Valley. You can be lulled to sleep with the sounds of the river and the owls that frequent the valley, and be woken by the birdsong that resonates through the woodland. The cabin is simple, but beautifully peaceful, tranquil, and the setting is idyllic. In the cabin, you will find a comfy king size futon bed, a sofa, a woodburner, an area for making drinks, simple suppers and breakfasts, and hooks to hang clothes. There is a kettle, a four-slice toaster and a small fridge, cutlery, crockery and glasses, fresh coffee, herbal and non-herbal teas and breakfast jars of home-made muesli and porridge oats. There is a single, portable induction hob on which you can cook simple food or, should you prefer, you can cook on the wood burning stove. There can be plant milk left in the fridge on your arrival, should you like. There can also be a warming and nourishing simple supper of home made soup and bread left for your arrival, or on any evening during your stay (this will need to be booked at least 24 hours in advance, for £5 per person). All food provided is organic and vegan. All bedding is supplied, along with towels and soap and there is an electric heater, blankets and a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy. During the cooler months, you may wish to bring warm socks and/or slippers too. The cabin is simply furnished, with reclaimed, reused and recycled objects and furniture. There is internet access via ethernet cable in the cabin but perhaps you would rather immerse yourself in nature... There is a compost loo close to the cabin or you may use the toilet, shower room and bathroom up at the main house.
Ashburton sits at the edge of, and within, Dartmoor National park and is a beautiful Devon town, renowned for its antiques and its good food. The cabin is a mile out of Ashburton town, an easy walk along the river. Dartmoor is walkable distance (uphill) or a five minute drive away. There are many good places to eat in Ashburton: a fabulous deli; artisan bakery; a wonderful farm shop selling organic produce and a healthfood shop. Riverford Farm Shop and Field Kitchen are a short drive away. We have an outdoor community swimming pool (heated) which is open until the beginning of September and we are close to many lovely wild swimming spots. The Ashburton Cookery School is a short drive away. The cabin's position makes it the perfect location for Moor walking, kayaking and canoeing, pony trekking and cycling. We are half an hour's drive from Exeter, Plymouth and the beautiful Devon coast. Totnes is approximately 7 miles away, Widecombe is a 20 minute drive and Hay Tor just 15 minutes away. The South Devon Railway is close by with its steam engines and vintage vehicles, and the Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm too. We are perfectly placed for exploring the Dart Valley and the Devon coastline.
  • Tina has a magical spot for beautiful and calming trips away from the busy world. The cabin is super clean and eco which made us feel safe and cozy as well as at one with nature. We will definitely find time for another trip soon.

  • There is nowhere I would rather stay for a short escape in Devon. A fabulous cabin with everything you could need. It was peaceful, minimalist and comfy. It really was perfect, so much more than I expected. The cabin is walking distance from town and more importantly, walking distance from the wilds of Devon! My hosts were quick to respond and gave me all the space and privacy I desired without feeling distant. The were extremely thoughtful and have created a glorious, thoughtful and comfortable space. X

  • We felt immediately at ease when we met Tina, and the cabin exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect escape from the city and we had everything we needed to make our stay completely comfortable. It felt like a home away from home and we didn't want to leave! The location is great too, plenty of nice walks and river swims nearby. All in all, I couldn't recommend this place enough! Thank you Tina!!

    Martha2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The lovely secluded situation in this peaceful valley right next to the river is a calm and comfortable retreat. Tina has set it up beautifully with lots of nice vintage touches and local books. The bread, flowers and selection of teas were very much appreciated. The location on the edge of Dartmoor is fantastic, and Ashburton perfect for shopping for local picnic items. We would highly recommend a meal at Riverford Organic Kitchen.

A clean modern house with two comfortable guests' bedrooms, contemporary private bathroom with bath and shower attachment; towels are provided. Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities in both bedrooms. Please note: The hosts sleep on the top floor of this townhouse. Buckfastleigh lies on the Southern edge of Dartmoor. Our house is near the A38 (Devon Expressway) which serves both Plymouth and Exeter (30 mins each way by car). See map. We have a cat, she is not allowed in the bedrooms.
The two letting rooms and guest bathroom take up the whole of the middle floor of our townhouse and are not let out separately to unconnected people. We sleep on the top floor. Besides the main king sized bedroom we also have a twin bedroom available with two full size single beds, which is very suitable for 2 children or two adults. We could put in a camp bed in that room for a third child if required. Should you wish to make use of it just add extra people when booking. The twin room is at the back of the house and with the window open, some road noise can be heard. Please be aware of this before you book this room. Our windows are double glazed and if closed this is barely audible. We supply a fan for our guests' comfort in the summer. It is naturally a fairly cool room. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in both bedrooms. Towels provided. A hairdryer can be provided on request. The cold water from the bathroom taps is drinkable. NB If two guests would like a room each then please book for 3 people. Otherwise it will either be the Kingsize OR the twin room.
Buckfastleigh was a bustling woollen town until the middle of the 20th century. In Fore Street there are still a few small shops, a general store - Huccabys which includes the Post Office, and a Co-op amongst others. It is very quaint with some lovely little nooks and crannies and churches of most denominations. There are 3 pubs - The Kings Arms, The Globe (serves food daytime and in the evening 6pm until 8pm Mon - Thurs, 6pm until 9pm Fri and Sat) and The White Hart, within a short walk from our house, together with an eat in/takeaway fish and chip shop, a Chinese and an Asian takeaway. There are two cafes serving snacks etc during the day. A short walk away at the start of Fore Street there is a pub called The Valiant Soldier which closed its doors in 1965 and today remains exactly as it was then. It is now a museum and well worth a visit. Open from April - October. A heated, open air swimming open from May to September. Many eating places out and about for wonderful local dishes, fish and cream teas. Buckfastleigh is in a beautiful part of Devon. Within 30 min drive to the nearest beach. A mixture of ages live in Buckfastleigh who all give you a ready smile when you meet them walking along the road. There are pubs/restaurants serving food a short drive away. Dartmoor Lodge and Abbey Inn to mention two. Nearby is the South Devon Steam Railway which runs from Buckfastleigh to Totnes alongside the picturesque River Dart. Buckfast Abbey. Well worth a visit with beautiful grounds and gardens and a lovely restaurant. We are very close to Dartmoor with the ponies, sheep and cattle wandering around freely. Ideal for walking. The little village of Widecombe on the Moor is not to be missed. Places very close to us are Dartmoor, Plymouth, Exeter, Totnes (nearest station 15mins by car), Newton Abbot, the beaches and towns/villages in the South Hams (Salcombe, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge). English Riviera - Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Teignmouth and Dawlish. Facilities nearby for children include Pennywell Farm, Dart Country Park, Woodlands. All great fun outdoor experiences. Round the corner there is Dart Rock which has climbing walls for all ages

Fig Tree Barn is nestled in a small hamlet located in a valley on the edge of Dartmoor, it is the ideal base from which to explore the whole region from moor to sea. The scenery in the area is glorious in all the weather’s moods and offers opportunities for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, swimming, sightseeing or just simply relaxing. Within a 10 minute walk of the barn is a local pub and about a 20 minute walk away is a community run shop and tearoom, perfect for a Devonshire cream tea !.
The home is a converted barn completed using traditional materials and in keeping with the appearance of the area. The barn is fully fitted with central heating to ensure that whatever the weather the barn remains warm and cozy. A bedroom with a single bed is located downstairs, along with a bathroom with a large walk-in shower, the kitchen and cozy living room. A staircase leads up to a further two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with twin beds. This floor has a loft like feel with triangular roofs and exposed beams.
Within a 15 minute drive is the town of Ashburton, with a restaurant appearing in the good food guide, a couple of cozy tearooms, and two wonderful delis stocking local cheeses and fish sourced from local day boats as well as a fantastic butcher. Closer to home is the local community shop and tearoom open everyday from 11-5. Here you are able to have a light lunch or a Devonshire cream tea or just pickup any forgotten essentials in the shop. This is a 5 minute drive from the barn or about a 20 minute walk along the sleepy country lanes.
  • We had a lovely week in Kates place in amongst the storms, it was cosy place to be with some lovely walks, and felt like a great retreat from the world.

  • Rural setting, very quiet and easy access to Moors and local towns. Great place, lots of nice touches and supplied us with Milk, Jam, Cream and Scones on arrival, delicious. Recommend for anyone looking to get away from busy life and have a few days of peace.

  • A little gem. Had a great stay at Fig Tree Barn. Everything you could need there, lovely to walk in and see scones and cream welcoming you. Very handy for Dartmoor, Buckfastleigh Abbey and Steam Railway. Would have no reservation what so ever in recommending Kate’s accommodation ,we had a great few days there.

    John2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Barn was excellent, located in the middle of the forest, very peaceful and cozy. Kids especially loved it, as it had lots of nice touches for them (kids corner, amazing selection of books and DVDs, fantastic garden, great bedroom, stylish furnishings).

    Dimos2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely barn conversion. Remote but perfectly located to see beautiful Dartmoor and surrounding areas. The house was warm, cosy and well equipped. Lots of lovely toys and books kept our four year old happy. We enjoyed exploring the immediate area on foot and loved the rope swings! Thanks Kate.

    Laura2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful holiday home, just as it looks in the photographs. Extremely well equipt for a family and a very warm welcome. Kate has been very helpful and easy to communicate with. The barn is located down tiny lanes on the edge of the moor and gives you a true taste of rural England! Beautiful walks nearby and easy access to local towns and the Moor. It was a lovely (and very stylish!) bolt hole for our family whilst visiting friends and family in Devon.

    Helen2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cosy property on Dartmoor. Nice decor, very comfy and plenty of nice touches, like children’s books and holiday paperbacks (also scones, jam and cream waiting on arrival!). Very pretty, very quiet location, though be aware it’s at the bottom of a steep hill, which was quite a slog with a pram!

    Steven2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Booked Thursday morning and arrived on Sunday to be welcomed with cake on the table and milk in the fridge. After a long drive and a day rock climbing this was much needed. Kate's place is certainly very clean and a hidden gem on air bnb, location is ideal if your looking for quick access to the moors. The local pub is only a 10 minute walk and serves great food and Ale, just remember to take a torch or borrow the one from the kitchen for the short walk home.

A long garden and decking at the back provide a lovely place to sit and the house is 5 minutes from the main street of Ashburton and 5 minutes from the Cookery school. I speak a few languages and love to meet people from other parts of the world and can give plenty of ideas about where to visit on Dartmoor or the local coastline as I love walking and swimming there.

Welcome to the Coach House at Whistley Hall, a converted 18th century Coach House in the heart of the ancient Stannary Town of Ashburton. Detached and self-contained, our cosy and tasteful accommodation stands just in front of our house. Ashburton is a beautiful town nestled right below Dartmoor and a short drive from the stunning South Devon coast. This is the ideal place for a quiet break, week exploring the local area or somewhere to stay while visiting Ashburton's renowned cookery school.
The Coach House has its own separate entrance, which leads into the hall and on into the kitchen. The kitchen has a range-style oven with a gas hob, fridge freezer and a dining table and chairs. It is well stocked with cooking equipment, a range of teas and ground coffee. The bathroom is fitted with a shower. Upstairs there is a light and airy sitting room with sofa and sofa bed, which can be made up in request. There is a TV and DVD player, a range of books and games. The bedroom has a double bed, with a choice of summer or winter down bedding depending on the temperature.
Ashburton has several great pub, restaurants and some fantastic local shops.
  • My stay here was short but sweet! The little cottage is lovely in every way, exactly as described. Great location literally a stones throw from town, communication was easy and welcoming. Would stay again on return to Ashburton!

  • We had a lovely stay in Ashburton. The house was very clean, warm and comfortable and in a great location to explore the town and surrounding area. We also appreciated the food and drink recommendations! Would highly recommend the riverford field kitchen for lunch or dinner.

  • Fantastic little house in a great location! Really friendly and helpful hosts! Can’t recommend highly enough. Would definitely stay here again.

  • The Coach House is an excellent space for an independent stay in Ashburton. Beautifully done up, comfortable and spacious for a couple. The only limitation is that it's directly on a road with no garden, but the road isn't very busy and the noise didn't bother us. The hosts were friendly, accessible and helpful. I recommend it!

Shuttaford Farm is a recently renovated historic 16th Century Dartmoor farmstead on the edge of the moors near to Holne and Ashburton. It is the perfect spot to explore the wilds of Dartmoor, walk along the beautiful River Dart or head to the many South Devon beaches for the day. Or just relax in the peaceful surroundings of the house and its large garden. We generally do Friday to Friday bookings. Please message us if you want to discuss other days or duration of stay.
A boutique architect designed space with a spacious contemporary glazed extension, Shuttaford Farm has a modern rustic feel with a large double height kitchen and plenty of room for friends and families to socialise. Underfloor heating runs throughout the lower floor to give a luxurious and homely feel on bare feet in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Large cast iron radiators upstairs and two woodburning stoves ensure that whatever the weather the house remains warm and cosy. On the ground floor is a large open plan kitchen/dining/living space, with a separate snug lounge and study. The lounge has a big corner sofa, woodburner and projecter screen, perfect for curling up and watching movies on a rainy day. Four bedrooms are located upstairs, ranging from a large vaulted ceiling super king size room with ensuite shower and bath, to a cosy fully kitted out kid's room with bed and cot. There are two additional comfortable double rooms, one with a spacious en-suite shower room, and a family bathroom. Large sliding doors in the open plan extension downstairs open onto the garden, with a large lawn area leading to a meadow with a firepit, hammock and kids playhouse and swings. Lots of books and games are provided for entertainment as well as TV and dvd player (and plenty of dvd's).
Shuttaford Farm is located in a hidden valley just outside the village of Holne and next to Ashburton. Holne has an excellent community run village shop, and local pub. The nearest beaches are an easy 30-40 minutes drive with plenty of options from surfing to dog friendly spots all along the south Devon coast. The nearby A38 (less than 10 minutes) allows easy access to Exeter, Plymouth and beyond.

  • Really cosy cottage. I work locally so was great to be able to walk to work. The cottage was bigger than I expected and very cosy. I was not expecting the stairs but was not an issue. It felt like a home from home. Highly recommend.

  • Jasmin Cottage is just perfect for a couple visiting this beautiful area. There are nice little extras, which we don’t always get with Airbnb like tea bags, coffee, sugar, hand wash, tea towel, washing up liquid. It’s about a 5 min walk into town & there are lots of individual shops, cafes, plus 2 small supermarkets, an excellent fishmonger, butchers & deli. It is quite a hill for those not so fit but it’s manageable. We visit Ashburton a lot due to our daughter living there, so will definitely be returning - best place we’ve found so far.

    Julia2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jasmin Cottage is a lovely cottage. Clean, well appointed and maintained and the location is ideal both for visiting Ashburton town centre, and also seeing more of the wider surrounding area. Angela is an excellent host.

  • We had such a great stay at Jasmine Cottage. So thoughtfully put together, with lovely little touches to make our stay very comfortable and cozy. Great access to moors and the town. Kitchen very well stocked for cooking, and the living room was great for relaxing after a day out. Parking was easy and very close to Cottage. Would highly recommend.

The furnishings are very comfortable and the kitchen is fine for cooking light meals. Excellent value overall.

The room at Roo Cottage is a modest but very soothing space. It faces out to the Western sunsets and has a character fireplace and window seat. Guests have appreciated the great location just half a mile's walking from the thriving 'Antiques Trail town of Ashburton, and 5 minutes from high Dartmoor. The cottage is small and cosy. You will be sharing with me, Josephine, and my little rescue dog Tubs. I have a spa bath if that's your thing, a woodburner, and a sunny garden.
Rew is a hamlet half a mile from Ashburton. It has green lanes and gushing streams, hills, sheep and a small but friendly population. Rew Lea Cottages is made from the former Rew Mill, and Roo Cottage is in the middle of six. There is a shared pathway to the cottages and gardens, and parking is in the lane outside.

  • Katie’s place was lovely and very comfortable. Everything was clean. Katie is very nice and really a great host! She even came to pick us up at the bus station when is was pouring rain! If I ever come back I would love to stay again at her place.

    Eva2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • DEFINITELY take the option of eating at/with Katie, you will not get better food ANYWHERE! Four superb curries, rice and pickles, curries all home-made and deLICious! She is friendly and kind and curious, too, up for new things, so she was really open to seeing the musician that we'd come down to see, so we all ate together, then trolled off down to what was the old church and she told us how it came to pass that it's now the town's entertainment centre. The room is lovely, cosy, full of curios and has an electronic blanket to keep you cosy at night, as well as a fridge (do try the Devon milk!), breakfast things and a kettle for the all-important cuppa. The wet-room across the garden has underfloor heating and is spotlessly clean. I thoroughly recommend Katie and her stay.

    Rooth2019-10-21T00:00:00Z

Beautiful character cottage set on the outskirts of The Dartmoor National Park. A peaceful, secluded hideaway with period features throughout, this tasteful conversion provides all the comfort and style for a truly unique holiday experience. The Old Stables is our sister property to our other Buckfastleigh holiday home, River Garden Cottage.
Tucked away at the end of a quiet courtyard within the moorland town of Buckfastleigh, a unique and peaceful 18th Century former Stables and Tucking Loft. Immediately upon entering the property, you arrive in the glass roofed Orangery - a beautiful, bright room where you can enjoy a drink or read a book surrounded by fruit trees and flowering plants. This leads directly into an open and character filled lounge with revealed wood beams and wood burner offering a relaxing, cosy environment. In one corner sits a baby grand piano which can be played to ones hearts content. There is a full package of entertainment available with our 48" Curved Ultra HD Samsung Flatscreen TV, including the full SKY package (inc. Movies, Sports, Documentaries) plus BT Sports. With 4K Blueray, Wifi and a selection of DVD's & Books mean there is always something to do even if the weather is against you. Open plan lounge-diner leads into the bespoke, country cottage kitchen with terracotta floor tiles. A rear door leads to a secluded, stone-walled courtyard with patio table & chairs for long summer evenings outdoors. The Chapel Room downstairs leads from the lounge area and accommodates couples or 2 singles. With wood beams and stone walls, this room has some unique features including circular window, granite post and Suffolk latch doors. Up the open staircase leading onto a 1st floor landing, the family bathroom benefits from luxury full hydrotherapy bath with spa jets, lighting and shower wand. Feature walls and beams, again make this a bathroom to spend time in. From the landing, the large master bedroom opens up to reveal the heritage of the Old Stables. Twisted oak beams, vaulted ceilings and complimentary antique furniture make for a truly romantic experience.
  • Thanks to Paul. Lovely and stylish accommodation, and all that we had hoped for - we had a lovely stay. It was comfortable, warm with excellent amenities, and Paul was an excellent host. Would highly recommend.

  • My wife and I stayed for a week at the Old Stables. In the last few years, I've traveled to over a dozen Airbnbs all over the world and this is easily the nicest place I've stayed. Paul is an incredible host who went above and beyond for us. Check-in is easy. If you like walking, we walked to Buckfast Abbey and Dembury Woods, which aren't more than a half hour leisurely walk away. Everything you need for a long or short stay. Plus, an amazing bathtub. I can't recommend the Old Stables more. You won't be disappointed.

    Johnny2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Paul’s house was perfect for our family. There were some lovely touches like leaving us jams and a loaf of bread, and the house was cosy and beautifully designed. The space was great for our toddler too. The house is in an excellent location, easy to find and a good central point from the sights in the local area. Paul was an excellent host, great communication and thoughtful to his guests. Highly recommended!

  • Not only the best host I have ever had but one of the loveliest people I have ever met! If you get chance make sure you ask Anne about her travels and adventures, you will not be disappointed. What a spectacular individual! P.s. The Eden project was amazing you would love it Anne!

    Kieran2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Anne, could not be more helpful, she made us instantly at home and welcome with tea. We checked in early, it was not a problem. A very comfortable room, bed and large bathroom. Very quiet and relaxing. A lovely breakfast was a treat.

    Georgina2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful stay at Anne’s. She was deeply thoughtful about the needs of our party, hugely responsive and kind. We were down for a wedding and had a few different people with us. The house itself was glorious... the setting is just so peaceful and the house was comfortable and charming. The views from the upstairs at the back were magnificent. It’s location is an easy drive to town and to both the sea and Dartmoor. We only wish we could have stayed and relaxed longer.

    Zoe2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay with Anne. She has a beautiful home in a very tranquil and beautiful spot. Anne is a delightful host and really took care of us for the three days we stayed with here. We would highly recommend a stay with her.

  • Anne was an exceptional host. We arrived very late on Friday evening due to traffic but Anne stayed up and welcomed us in to her beautiful home. Her breakfast was super and we were able to enjoy it in her beautiful garden on a super sunny day! We stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby and Anne was very helpful with taxi recommendations and being token photographer before we left! Her house is beautiful and everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable and her dog Lulu was lovely! (And domino) We will sure be coming to stay again!

    Alice2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is an attentive host, she is flexible and thoughtful! The house is beautiful, rooms clean , tidy and impressive in style! I got ready here with my bridesmaids for my wedding and Anne and the location were lush!

    Jacqie2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's lovely home is really a gem. We are a family of eight, aged 17-62 years, and loved staying at Anne's home for 2 nights while we explored Dartmoor. If anything, we wish we could have stayed longer. Anne is kind and generous and her home is very special. The bedrooms are clean and charming, and the entire house is full of character and personality. All the spaces have a wonderful and caring touch that makes it a real pleasure to share. Anne's breakfasts are delicious and not to be missed! She is very friendly and lovely to get to know. We highly recommend this special home to everyone who is longing for an adventure in Dartmoor.

    Lora2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is a wonderful host, and her house is absolutely fantastic!! She was very welcoming, even when I arrived much later than originally planned. The bedroom was huge, clean and just like the pictures, with a large clean bathroom (with a nice walk-in waterfall shower, clean sink and clean toilet) attached. The rest of the house was equally as impressive, and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in the area. She has a large kitchen and large comfy sitting areas, and made me a tasty breakfast every morning. The location is a little tricky to find, and involves going down some very small country roads, but Anne provided great instructions to help me along with her mobile number if I got stuck. The views from the end of the driveway are beautiful, and although I had little time to go exploring the glances of the surrounding area were equally as beautiful. Anne also has great knowledge of the local area and recommended me some fantastic places to go eat in the evenings. She was as helpful as I asked her to be, but was also happy to leave-me-be in the evenings if I wished (as I was quite exhausted by the time I got back to her house each day). She also has a very cute and friendly dog who was very well trained and a great companion. I had an amazing time, and would definitely recommend. Great value for money. 10 out of 10! Thank you Anne for everything!
