  • Our stay at this beautiful little cottage was just perfect. The place larger than the pictures make out but it still feels cosy and comfortable. Everything had been thought of and we were reluctant to leave! Also, it's set in a beautiful little area that's worth exploring. We loved it.

  • We stayed at this charming cottage for 2 nights and it was perfect. It had everything we needed, felt secluded enough but was also very easy to reach local amenities and things to e.g. nearby Bruton. Clean, comfortable and actually quite spacious within we really enjoyed the time we spent here. Doey made check in very easy, and gave us a breakfast basket which was great. Would thoroughly recommend staying here!

  • What a beautiful cottage! Simon and Doey are wonderful hosts who have thought of every little detail to make sure you have an extra special stay. Could not have asked for anything more! Highly recommend !!

  • Lovely place.. will definitely be coming back.

    Mel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great little house in a really nice spot to get away and spend some time together. When it rained we lit the fire and stayed in, when it was clear we walked to the local pubs and around the fields. The hosts Simon and Doey were really friendly but not intrusive at all. Made us feel very at home instantly. Would 100% recommend.

  • A delightful cottage, tucked away in a pretty hamlet, yet many places of interest are within easy reach. We particularly enjoyed Sherborne, Castle Carey and Somerton. Thoughtful hosts who provided everything needed for a pleasant stay.

  • Perfect place for a weekend away. A lovely cottage full of character. Feels private too, it makes you feel like a neighbour rather than a house guest.

  • Lovely little cottage, in a fantastic quiet location. Parking was simple on the road at the back of the property. Was a little chilly when we arrived, but along with the storage heaters, and the real log ‘effect’ fire, which really kicks out some heat, there’s also a convector heater in the bedroom and an electric oil filled radiator for when the weather is particularly cold. The kitchen contains all the basic necessities required for general cooking and eating. The seating in the lounge is comfy and there’s a nice little table to sit and eat any meals at. The bedroom is very cosy and the bathroom, was nice and warm, the only negative would have to be that as the shower is in a bath, it’s not easy to stand under, due to the low ceilings. My husband ended up having to kneel. My husband did manage to bump his head a few times, mainly upstairs where the ceilings are particularly low, but this to be expected for anyone 6 foot tall, when staying in a quaint old thatch cottage. Everything in the cottage was spotlessly clean. There are no street lights outside the cottage, so worth taking a torch (or using a light on a mobile phone), if you’re walking to and from a car during dark evenings. The positive to this, is it being really great to be able to see all the stars, on a clear night, which we can’t see at home due to all the light pollution. There’s a really useful folder on the window ledge in the lounge, containing lots of local information, places to eat, takeaways, walking routes, and places to visit. Places we ate: We had planned to eat at the White Horse Inn, across the road, but unfortunately they aren't serving food between 11th and 29th January 2020 (bad timing), however, drove just over a mile to the centre of Sturminster Newton and ate at The Swan Inn, which had a great menu, including vegan options, so recommend it. Also, ate at Mumbai Bay with some friends, though the initial service for our drinks and the taking of our food order were a little slow, once ordered the food came quickly and was enjoyed by all, so again, recommended. Other than Sturminster Newton, there are some great little villages to visit and for anyone who remembers the little boy pushing his bike up the hill with his delivery of Hovis bread, in the 1970’s, I’d definitely recommend visiting Gold Hill, Shaftsbury.

  • Very cosy cottage in a quiet, rural location with the local pub just a few paces away. We had everything we needed and were perfectly comfortable and warm. Hinton St Mary is a picturesque little village with lots of places nearby to walk and explore. We had a relaxing break over new year which was just what we needed. Thank you!

    Spike2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Alice's thatched cottage opposite The White Horse pub is the kind of place that would send Americans completely potty. It's as pretty as the picture on the front of a jigsaw puzzle. Inside everything is as clean as a whistle and there's all that you could need for a perfect stay. If you're very tall you're going to stoop a bit upstairs but even so you'll be wowed by the cottage's utter charm.

Cosy, light, converted stone barn, within a private small-holding, with view over Blackmore Vale. Located between Sherborne and Shaftesbury, it is well situated for a variety of cultural & leisure activities in Sherborne and its historic Abbey, Bruton, Stourhead House & Gardens, Dorchester and Frome, as well as gorgeous walks along the Jurassic Coast. Breakfast stuff is waiting for you in the fridge and a marvellous family-owned grocery store, along with other amenities, is just 1 mile away.
This is a warm, bright cottage with natural stone and wood, giving it a homely atmosphere. Our Spanish plates decorate the walls and although it's modest, you should feel happy and relaxed here.
Leaflets and information on the local attractions, events and places to eat will be available as there's so much to see and do in Somerset and Dorset, from music and literary festivals at Sherborne Abbey, the Royal Bath & West Show in May in Shepton Mallet (venue for many other events), the Gold Hill Fair in Shaftestbury in July, the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Show and the Great Dorset Steam Fair in August, the Gillingham Walking Festival and the Frome Cheese Fair in September and a variety of public events at Sherborne Castle throughout the year.
  • A tranquil rural retreat for two, cosy, character filled and well appointed. A lovely place, sparkling clean surrounded by beautiful country side. Lavinia is a perfect host, tasty home made welcome touches, welcoming and helpful with local Information.

    Chris2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I can't think of a single flaw with our trip to Lavinia's cottage. We felt so welcomed, and knew we could rely on Lavinia if ever necessary. I would definitely recommend it!

  • A quiet and out of the way cottage in the grounds of a farmhouse – surrounded by open fields and greenery. Easy access by car to towns nearby. The cottage is just the right size for a couple. An upstairs bedroom with lovely views, with en suite shower room. A good-sized well-equipped kitchen with large table – great for home cooked dinners or a big Sunday brunch. Good working Wi-Fi, plenty of easy parking immediately adjacent to building, no silly rules or regs, spotlessly clean throughout, and a friendly welcome. Just what you need from a decent Air BnB, perfect for a quiet, rural break for a few days. Many thanks – especially for that home baked bread!

    Lorna2020-02-10T00:00:00Z

  • Great place for couples to stay, peaceful location. nicely furnished, well equipped... great host.

    David2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at millview cottage throughout June for work. Pippa was a wonderful host who helped us out everytime we needed it without fail. The cottage is in a beautiful and quiet place with a beautiful interior and a lovely private garden. The cottage was sparkling clean when I arrived and had all the facilities I needed so that my evenings and weekends could be spent relaxing. The location was ideal for what I needed, the commute was 10-15 minute drive, large supermarkets were about 10 minutes away with a more local supermarket a 2 minute drive away and there was plenty of sightseeing to be done less than an hours drive away on the weekends. I would definitely stay at millview cottage again and would recommend to anyone.

Triple aspect ground floor bedroom with en suite bathroom (and shower), two good quality standard-width single beds (plus air-bed for a third person if required), handy workspace with oak desk & chair, a variety books and tourist information, along with independent access for guests. The house is on a quiet road right next to the pretty River Gascoigne. Ideal as a base for visiting Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Kettle, tea and coffee provided in the room.
Our house was built in about 1860 right next to the river! So the views from two of the windows are of the river and you can hear the water trickle by... Please note that due to the age of the floorboards, you might well hear us talking and/or walking around in the room above and on the stairs! And we might hear you! Also, some mobile phone networks don't do well here... (We had to switch to O2 when we moved in.) However, if you can use ‘Wifi calling’ then you will be fine. If you are cycling, bikes can be locked in garage overnight.
Milborne Port is a quiet village with a lot of its own interesting history just a five minute drive from the lovely abbey town of Sherborne. Whilst it is now mainly residential, there are farms close by and there used to be tanneries and glove factories in the village. Kingsbury Regis was at one time its own entity and most of the old buildings in this area are associated with its farming past. There are two pubs in the village, a fabulous new haute cuisine restaurant called The Clockspire, a Co-operative supermarket, a fish and chip shop and restaurant, a chemist, a newsagent, a petrol station that is home to the Post Office, a doctors' surgery and a real butcher! All are within 5-15 minutes' walk.
  • I had the loveliest evening staying here. I felt completely welcome and right at home from the moment I arrived. Every little detail has been thought of. I would highly recommend staying here and hope I will be able to again!

Helen was a very accommodating host - she helped us coordinate arrival and departure to fit with the times of the wedding, and recommended local taxi companies. We would recommend Helen’s place to anybody looking for a comfortable place to stay around Templecombe, Henstridge, Holbrook, Wincanton etc

This lovely, spacious loft apartment has two bedrooms. The apartment stretches across the second floor of one of the oldest Vicarages in Somerset. With ancient wooden beams, a spacious sitting room, a dramatic dining- balcony with far reaching views, it is both unusual and fun. Enjoy the large garden and private swimming pool. Elegant, comfortable bedrooms, superb quality bedlinen, a solar heated swimming pool, books, toys, and a breakfast pack of local produce, we offer a warm welcome.
This is a spacious loft apartment, full of character and old world charm. Originally accommodating the Vicar's servants, there are plenty of old wooden beams and panelling. If you like something a bit different, this is for you. There are two double bedrooms on either side of the hallway. Both have dormer windows with wonderful views over the village and countryside. One bedroom is a very good size with a large superking bed that can be made up as two singles; there is a desk and chair, a small sofa and plenty of storage space in this bedroom. The other bedroom is smaller - tucked under the eaves. It contains two single beds, a dressing table, a chair and is just across the hall from the other bedroom. Both bedrooms have quaint dormer windows with far reaching views over the village to the hills beyond. There are some low beams and sloping ceilings in the bedrooms, so tall people will need to take care! Down a few stairs and you enter a large comfortable living room with high wooden beams, sofas, chairs, a TV, and a dining table with chairs for meals. Uniquely, the sitting room leads onto your own private roof terrace, which has stunning views over the village as far as King Alfred's Tower and beyond. Popular with guests in Summer, this is a perfect spot for an evening drink, or breakfast in the morning sun. A lovely spot. There is a spacious bathroom with a good power shower (no bath). (If you particularly need a bath, you can use a different bathroom downstairs.) The small, neat kitchenette is equipped for simple cooking. Pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, small fridge, induction 2-plate stove, microwave, fridge, etc...
Henstridge is a small Somerset village, with a very useful village shop and post office a couple of hundred yards away. We are right next to the Parish church of St Nicholas and this part of the village is a conservation area. There are two old pubs in the village, The Bird in Hand (which has a super skittle alley!) and The Virginia Ash (good for pub grub). We also have a very good Indian Restaurant within walking distance - although this is threatened with closure as I write. There are three excellent fish and chips places within a few miles and plenty of foodie pubs and restaurants a short drive away - catering for all tastes. We are very lucky to have an award winning independent grocery store (called Dike's) in the next village. It is a joy! It is open late and has everything you could need. Plus a renowned butchery (Else's) for bbq supplies! The ancient market towns of Shaftesbury and Sherborne are both 7 miles away in opposite directions. Both of these towns are of enormous historical interest, including two castles in Sherborne and a magnificent Abbey. Hilltop Shaftesbury has Medieval ruins and the unique and charming Gold Hill. There are plenty of interesting shops and restaurants and some excellent pubs too. Bruton, with its trendy art galleries and fabulous restaurants is a lovely drive 20 minutes away. The Newt in Somerset is an amazing garden to visit which opened recently. The beach and the Jurassic Coast is about 3/4 of an hour away - depending where you choose to go. We like Studland as you can swim, walk on the cliffs or on the beach. There is fossil hunting in Charmouth, Chesil Beach is a unique land formation and kids love The Swannery nearby...plus there is so much more.... We are happy to advise you on where to go or what might be of particular interest to you and we stock plenty of brochures and guide books.
  • We spent four amazing days at The Old Vicarage. Even though Bridget wasn’t there at the moment, she made us feel very welcomed by leaving notes on how to find the rooms, plenty of food for breakfast, wine and snacks, and she left lots of recommendations of things to do around as well. Communication was very good throughout the process. Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the pool as the weather didn’t allow us, otherwise we would’ve jumped in. The house and the garden look amazing, it’s such a beautiful place. We had a good time playing table tennis during the rainy days. Luckily the sun came out on Saturday and, as recommended by Bridget, we visited Stourhead and then we had dinner at the Queen’s Arms. We would definitely recommend to stay at this beautiful place.

    Natalia2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a glorious place the Old Vicarage is: super comfortable beds, easy parking, absolutely gorgeous gardens and pool and in reach of many lovely places to visit. We loved sitting in the sunshine having breakfast on the terrace and finishing a bottle of wine there in the fading light. Hospitality is a special gift and when it was handed out, Bridget was most definitely given extra portions. She gave us a very special welcome (including a top notch package of goodies) and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. 😊

    Marianne2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful few days we have had with Bridget. She was an amazing host with thoughtful touches such as the breakfast foods, fresh flowers and toys for our little one. We even had fresh vegetables from the garden. Thank you so much.

    Dai2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay!! Bridget goes above and beyond most hosts. Everything you could possibly need, and fantastic for children, garden games, loads of rainy day games, snacks and goodies. Thanks so much! Hope we can come back!!!

    Molly2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • I have just returned back with 4 friends and my dog. We have had such a great time here in the Stunning loft. It's stunning in many ways, hospitality, location, Gardens, views. The rooms are spacious and my bed was extremely comfortable, the shower is powerful (stayed in a few places where it's a drip) . Although it is mid September we have been spoilt with the weather so we all had a dip in the pool, sat round one of many tables drinking and relaxing whilst the dog played with his Pal, Bridget's dog. She is very friendly, loves football and invites you in her home just like Bridget did. We were lucky enough to have a friend that loves to cook, although it's a kitchenette we sat down to a few beautiful meals. I would definitely go back if I choose that part of the country again for a break . I have returned a happy rested lady and my dog is shattered. All in all. 10/10 experience 🐶❤️

  • The loft in the Old Vicarage gets 10 out of 10 from us. It's a wonderful hideaway and a perfect place to stay to get away from it all. The well maintained garden and pool are a treat to have and the house is exceptionally clean. The bedrooms are well laid out and very comfortable with plenty of soft towels available. The kitchen has everything you would need, but there's also a great pub just 4 minutes walk away if you don't plan to cook. There are also plenty of games and toys to use for both children and adults. We would definitely stay again if we plan another visit to Somerset. Best of all Bridget is THE best host you could ever wish to meet. Nothing is a problem, she left lots of provisions for us, such as - croissants, bread, milk, cereal, even a bottle of wine. She went over and beyond what any host would need to offer.

Yew Tree View looks out over the gardens and fields, and includes a small kitchenette. The property is situated within the grounds of a family home next door. There is a small convenience store around a 10-minute walk away, and 2 pubs within a 5-minute drive. Dorchester and Salisbury and Bath, are all within an hour's drive.
The accommodation is a studio apartment with a king-size bed, sofa, dining table and TV in the living space. Adjoining this is a kitchenette which leads to the cloakroom with a toilet and sink. A separate electric shower cubicle is next to this.
Marnhull is a well loved Dorset village with a local pub dating back to the 15th century. It is referred to in Thomas Hardy's classic 'Tess of the D' Urbervilles'. There are a multitude of footpaths which begin right outside the property. Close by are National Trust properties, Stone Henge and the world renowned Jurassic Coast is 45 minutes drive away.

  • Stayed overnight for a business trip. Found the chalet easily, was greeted on arrival by the host who ensured I had all I needed & thoughfully provided me a jug of milk as I had forgotten this. Very cosy, secure accomodation, clean and exactly what wqas needed. As a female travelling alone, I felt very safe and comfortable here and would recommend this accomodation for any colleagues needing to undertake the same trip.

This barn conversion is light and airy with a modern yet rustic feel. The open plan modern kitchen opens onto a spacious living area. The downstairs walk in shower and toilet are positioned in the corner. The spiral stairs lead to the loft bedroom. The maximum occupancy for this property is two.
This cosy one bed apartment is tucked away in a beautiful Dorset hamlet yet only 4 miles from the bustling market town of Sherborne.
Milborne Wick is a beautiful peaceful hamlet that time has forgotten, a few miles out of the historic town of Sherborne. It is surrounded by lovely countryside, with a couple pubs within a miles walk. It is an ideal spot to explore the delights of Dorset with its Jurassic coastline and the historic city of Bath, Wells and Salisbury.
  • This is a fantastic location and the accommodation is beautiful. I would definitely recommend Penny. We visited the Clockspire Restaurant 5 minutes away, as recommended by Penny and could not fault our stay at all. All our needs were met, we definitely plan to return.

The "Annex" is a conversion of one of a small group of stone barns that make up Willow Barn. It has the prime view of the manicured lawn, carefully tended flowerbeds and pool, with it's longest side and two upstairs dormers facing exactly south. Once partly an artist's studio, the open plan downstairs is wonderfully light and airy, and its peaceful location on a no through road make it ideal for a relaxing getaway or a place to come and be inspired by the local Dorset history and landscapes.
The Annex was intended and kitted-out to be entirely self-contained. The kitchen has a full compliment of crockery, cutlery, pots and utensils and also a dishwasher and washing machine. Although the annex shares the property with the main house, you get the prime view of the garden, and with only a few small windows (with blinds of course) facing back towards the main property you can enjoy a great deal of privacy during your stay. The downstairs is large and open and a great place to relax. It is worth noting that the two bedrooms are in the dormer roof of the property and do have some limited headroom when you are climbing into bed. There is a dryer in the main property garage which guests may use during their stay though you will need to let us know so we can open the doors. There is also a sheila's maid in the pool room which is always warm. We try to be as plastic-free as possible in the consumables we offer for your stay. For instance, there will be a lovely natural soap bar in the bathroom and a bottle of milk in glass (handily available in the local independent supermarket) in the fridge awaiting you on your arrival to get you started. Please note that the pool is open May through to September only.
Willow Barn is firmly placed in rural Dorset. We are about a 15 minute drive from historic Sherbourne, with its 8th Century Abbey, new and ruined castles, gardens, museum and ancient town centre. Both Cerne Abbas with its horny giant and the magnificent Stourhead House National Trust property are within a half-hour drive. Willow Barn is surrounded by rolling fields and quaint villages with typically West Country meandering names; think "Mintern Magna" and "Bishop's Caundle". The Jurassic Coast, with the legendary 29-mile-long Chesil Beach is on the South Coast of Dorset, and is one of our favourite destinations, with its beach-side eateries and wonderful Sub-tropical Gardens.
  • A great property for those wishing to visit this area, as there are few properties near Stalbridge. A perfect base for the local area, with everything you need in the property.

  • Natasha's communication goes above and beyond what anyone would ever expect from a host! The property is simply fantastic, perfect for two couples.

    Suharupy2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • We needed somewhere to stay in the area at short notice and this one jumped out at us from our very first look. After eliminating several others in the area we chose Willow Barn and I'm pleased to say we were not disappointed. Natasha responded quickly and was very accommodating. We arrived quite late but the place was clean warm and very welcoming, just what we needed after 3 hours on the road. In the morning we were able to appreciate just how peaceful and beautiful the gardens and the surrounding area is and I'm sure the pool would get lots of use in the summer. All in all Willow Barn was a lucky find for us, and we spent 3 very comfortable nights there. If I had to be really picky my only criticisms would be why no DVD player? We bought a couple of films to watch in the evenings but couldn't play them, and no-one uses VHS anymore do they?

    Neil2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place for relaxation. Fresh air and ample space for 3 of us.

Couples hideaway, entirely your own space in a quiet friendly village. Private driveway parking, entrance with steps, situated over owners garage. Covered patio area with table, chairs, beautiful view of countryside. Key safe entrance via patio doors into living/kitchen area, comfy sofa, table and chairs. Seperate bedroom with luxurious king size bed, bedside drawer units, chest of drawers and large fitted wardrobe. Seperate shower room with loo, basin and large shower.
Away from it all but only a few miles from the centre of the historic town of Sherborne. One of the most picturesque towns in Dorset with independent shops, The Abbey, market days, lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants and surrounded by rolling hills and quaint villages. There is free WiFi at the property but you will need a car to stay here with us as we are off the beaten track, need to love the peace and quiet of a farming village and be happy to respect the neighbours who are mostly early to bed, early to rise kind of folk. The annexe is tastefully furnished with everything you need for a home from home stay. The kitchen is well equipped but if there is anything else you need just ask. Tea, coffee, etc will be provided. Extra pillows and blankets are available should we have a very cold spell but the heating should provide a warm and cosy atmosphere. The covered patio area is available right outside the building for you to sip your morning coffee or watch the sun go down with a glass of your favourite tipple.
The lovely village of Stourton Caundle nestles in the pretty Dorset countryside. The local pub, The Trooper has recently re opened and is the hub of the village. We hope that while you are staying with us you will be respectful of village life and keep the noise level to a minimum whilst in the property and when out and about. The pace of life here is slower than in the towns and cities and is reflected in the ambience of the place.

  • The annexe provided a perfect getaway in a quiet location. The place was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. Jane provided some very thoughtful touches like butter, bread, jam, tea, coffee, sugar and some delicious home made scones. We didn’t get to sit in the garden because we stayed in February but there was a lovely area with seating which would be great in the summer. I would highly recommend Jane’s place.

No thrills but clean and cosy and the single bed very comfortable. The bathroom is clean and airy. Altogether a really great place to stay and sample the atmosphere and a very fine Welsh single malt. • If you are looking for a charming place to stay in a village at the heart of the peaceful countryside look no further, this is the spot for you. A lovely personality, Sarah is a wonderfully kind and considerate host, someone who clearly enjoys meeting new people, and goes that extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction. The accommodations are delightfully cosy in a warm, beautifully decorated charming cottage - with quite a fascinating history of its own, incidentally(!); the bed super comfy, the dog friendly atmosphere relaxing & congenial. Indeed, I can wholeheartedly recommend her home to fellow visitors looking for somewhere quiet to unwind, and happily anticipate staying at her place again on my next trip to Hardy country.

Get back in touch with nature at this luxury cabin nestled in a quiet hamlet. Find tranquility on the terrace surrounded by breathtaking views, or lounge amid thoughtful decor and chic modern finishes in the exposed oak beam interior.
Blue Vale is brand new as of June 2018! We helped to design this green oak framed building and have been involved in the whole process of building it, doing much of it ourselves. For our colour scheme we have used different shades of blue throughout, playing on the name of Blue Vale. The furnishing and finishing touches are of a high standard to help promote a comfortable and luxurious finish. There is an eclectic style combining modern country with industrial finishes. Luxury, high thread cotton bedding and towels, large flat screen smart tv's and luxury Neals Yard toiletries help to give the top-end finishing touches we would appreciate if we stayed away from home.
The glorious Blackmore Vale landscape is a tapestry of farmed green fields with a sprinkling of English villages, of which Sandley is one. Walk out (or cycle, using our available bikes) onto country lanes and venture along a web of footpaths to discover this unspoilt part of Dorset. Visit Stourhead, stroll around the ancient towns of Sherborne or Shaftesbury or discover the beautiful Jurassic coast. Also closeby are Longleat safari park, Haynes Motor Museum, & Yeovilton Air Museum.

  • Me and my partner had an absolutely amazing time at Blue Vale. Jayne was an excellent host and could not be more attentive. We were greeted upon arrival, we were informed of the local amenities and restaurants near by. There was such attention to detail. All the art work and décor was stunning and we felt so cosy and at home there. The weather was a little bit miserable but in all honestly it just meant that we could curl up on the sofa and enjoy ourselves. Our trip was for my partners 30th and our first anniversary. We were quite content in just staying indoors and making the most of our time there. You are completely secluded and it is all very private. The view from the open plan windows is amazing, especially in the early hours of the morning and as the evening dawns. You had absolutely anything you needed to not have to venture outside at all if that is what you wished for. With a full kitchen and washing facilities. The bathroom comes fully equipt with a shower and a bath that is so nice to relax in after a long day. Jayne was always available if we needed and checked in everyday just to make sure we were settling in ok and if there was anything we needed we only needed to ask. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are hoping it will not be too long before we return.

  • We just had a lovely stay in Jayne and Dave's cottage. The couple were very friendly and always accomodating. The cottage was warm and cosy with all modern appliances. This particular weekend had been horrible due to bad weather conditions so we couldn't really go outdoors but we didn't mind staying indoors because the cottage made us feel at home. We had a very beautiful and peaceful countryside experience and would definately recommend you staying at this place. Jayne and Dave have certainly put a lot of effort into making their place very inviting and we certainly felt that from minute we arrived.

  • I couldn't recommend Jane's beautiful oak airbnb more highly! I booked this as a surprise trip for my partner's birthday and it was so perfect for a relaxing getaway. The quality of the furnishings etc is of the highest standards and there is just no way you cannot relax here. The bed is so comfy and the bathroom is the stuff of dreams, from the giant tub, to the powerful walk-in shower. You can really see the thought and care taken in creating this place and we definitely plan on coming back. Jayne's hosting was second to none and the perfect balance of being available and nearby when needed but also giving you space and not disturbing unless you needed anything. It's a great location to either just relax and enjoy being in the countryside, or to explore the surrounding area - there's so much within under an hour's drive!!You won't regret a stay here!

  • Blue Vale is the most incredible airbnb experience we've ever had, it is very special, from the view, the thoughtful touches to the most welcoming and accommodating hosts, we couldn't fault it! 7* experience! The decor is very beautiful and there is a very warm and cosy feel, the welcome basket with local treats was much appreciated and the bed was so comfy we didn't want to leave it! Everything was of the highest standard, Netflix on the tv was great! Jayne and Dave really have thought of everything and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, including having a cake ready for my girlfriend's birthday on our arrival. Jayne also recommended some fantastic local restaurants - The Green (a few miles away in Sherborne) serves up a delightful Sunday roast that just melts in your mouth. Our favourite part of the stay was sitting watching the sun set on the gorgeous countryside with a glass of bubbly, we will treasure the memories of our weekend here and can't wait to come back! Oh, and there's also the most luxurious bath you will ever have the pleasure of lying in!

  • Air bnb review This is the first Air bnb I’ve stayed in that has been 150% true to its photos. Honestly the most wonderful and perfect place to stay. We were completely blown away by Blue Vale and it’s gorgeous surroundings. The kitchen/tv area, bathroom and bedroom are all fully equipped and beautifully decorated. The bed is one of the comfiest I’ve slept in (very tempted to buy the mattress) and you have the choice of a huge bath or walk in shower in the bathroom. We arrived to a Hamper of cereal, cider, fresh milk and many other delicious things. Jayne gave us a very warm welcome and made our stay the best it could possibly be - it’s no wonder she is a super host. After a walk we came back to a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge with a lovely Happy New Year card which was so thoughtful. Jayne was incredibly kind and went above and beyond for us - we are already looking to come back over summer! A huge thank you to Jayne and her gorgeous family for being so accommodating. They also have a very very cute dog. Book this place now!!!

  • This cottage is exceptional. It was tastefully and thoughtfully decorated and well fitted with all the modern comforts you would expect from a 5 star property. Above all. Jayne was warm and welcoming and went above and beyond to make this a memorable stay.

  • Staying at Jayne's place was a pure delight for us. She is a fantastic host that we met in person and a warm communicative. We will be more than happy to come back to have another break and enjoy the country side. We were also very surprised of the great quality of pubs and farm shop around this place. In other words, we enjoyed 4 perfect days and felling at home. We highly recommend this place!

Gould’s House is a listed historic farmhouse set in a quiet rural area two miles from the village of Horsington, on the Somerset/Dorset border, next door to a working farm. The views of the Blackmore Vale countryside in all directions are stunning, giving us a feeling of being miles from anywhere, yet we are only three miles from the town of Wincanton and it famous racecorse. Gould's House Annexe is a one bedroom apartment at the back of the house, accessed via our back door.
Gould’s House Annexe is self contained and there is complete privacy, with a double bedroom, bathroom and sitting room upstairs and kitchen downstairs. From the back door, the entrance to both the upstairs and the downstairs is from a passage (for coats and boots) which also serves as the back way into the main house. This entrance and the spacious car parking area are covered by discreet security cameras. We do not serve any meals, but realising you might arrive late at night, we provide cereal, milk, bread, butter, jam, marmalade, sugar, tea, and coffee for your first breakfast. Morrisons, Lidl and local shops can all be found in Wincanton. The location is perfect for peace and quiet or for sightseeing. National Trust properties within reach are Stourhead, Lytes Cary, Montacute House and Barrington Court. The beautiful cities of Salisbury, Bath and Wells are all less than an hour’s drive away. The coast with the attractions of the Jurassic coast, Lyme Regis, Lulworth Cove, West Bay and Poole Harbour are all about an hour away. Pevlings Stables is just up the road and the area is ideal for horse riding. Within easy reach are the historic towns of Glastonbury, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Bruton with the Hauser & Wirth modern art gallery, Castle Cary with The Newt house and extensive gardens, and of course the famous Wincanton Race Course. Local gardens to visit include Sherborne Castle (Capability Brown) and Tintinhull. Other attractions include Longleat, Wookey Hole, and the Haynes Motor Museum. There are many local pubs which serve good food including the Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston, the Half Moon in Horsington and the White Horse in South Cheriton. We have a number of our own dogs and cats, and so we cannot welcome your pets here.
The neighbourhood is in the middle of the countryside so the only noise is from the cows on the farm next door
  • Friendly and welcoming, Susan and Christopher were excellent hosts! The rooms were very well presented and clean, and the thoughtful touches made it a happy (and cosy!) stay!

The space was comfortable clean and just perfect for our needs. The house itself is beautiful and we wished we had more time to do some local walks!

  • We had a friendly welcome from Susan and some nice helpful touches to make our short stay enjoyable. The accommodation is self-contained, quiet and private. The surrounding countryside and villages are classic beautiful rural Somerset. Bring a bike if you can ... we had a great little tour around the area and very much enjoyed the Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston. Thank you Susan

  • Susan and Christopher are lovely hosts. They are generous and thoughtful, equipping the annex to their home with everything you could need and communicating brilliantly and promptly. The cottage is in the middel of unspoilt countryside but close to some excellent pubs, beautiful villages and the mainline train station to Waterloo and Cornwall.

Perfect for a tranquil getaway. Refresh your senses in the heart of beautiful countryside in the Blackmore Vale, an excellent area for walking and exploring Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset. This is the former Barrel Store of Marnhull Brewery, situated in a no through lane with immediate access to open countryside, the 2 bedroom cottage has charm and character, renovated to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation with private garden and off road parking. Pets welcome. Fabulous pubs nearby.
The single storey detached 2 bedroom cottage is fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, I have provided lots of information about the local area and places to visit in and around Dorset, Stourhead gardens, Longleat, Kingston Lacey, The Tank museum, Monkey world, Yeovilton Air museum all within an hours drive. Todber Manor fishing lakes 2 miles away.
A very beautiful and peaceful location, you will be staying in a building that is part of a 19th century country brewery. The Barrel Store Cottage is tucked away behind the old brewery building. Situated in a "no through" road on the edge of Marnhull village, there are footpaths across the fields in all directions that lead to the surrounding villages and towns. The local pub in Marnhull is The Crown Inn (The Pure Drop Inn from Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the D'urbervilles') and The White Horse at Hinton St Mary is also within 2 miles, both serve great food, best to travel there by car as there is no pavement.
  • Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Fully recommend to all.

    Chris2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cottage tucked away behind the owner's house, very quiet and peaceful. Extremely comfortable double bed and everything you might need. I imagine in good weather brilliant for walking dogs over the local fields (the usual route to either of the 2 recommended local pubs) but Storm Dennis had turned the fields into a muddy swamp so sadly that wasn't possible. Owners were very welcoming and helpful.

    Robin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z

  • Perfect little place for our small family to stay. Lovely and peaceful setting. The property is as described and sparklingly clean. Claire saved the day for us with milk for our one year old as we arrived later than expected. Plus the property was already filled with all the necessities that you'd need, very thoughtful and nice touch. Would highly recommend to others

Our place is close to Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Gillingham (mainline station). You’ll love our place because of the views. We are on edge of village overlooking farmland, in a very peaceful, rural setting in the heart of Thomas Hardy country. Plenty of scenic walks and Fishing Lakes are within 1 mile. Several pubs to wine, dine and relax in within 2 miles. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). with ample parking. Travel cot available.
  • Great stay. Lovely thoughtful touches. Comfortable beds. Great for families with little ones. All on one level. Our daughter loved having bunk beds. We would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

  • An excellent place to stay for our pre-Christmas meet up and shopping trip. Easy to park car at Gillingham and take the train to Salisbury. Welcoming and friendly hosts who obviously care a lot about their property and their guests. The annexe was very private and quiet. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed plus more. It was lovely to have supplies for our arrival and breakfast - tea, coffee milk, butter, eggs, cereal, bread and fruit..... and of course the delicious Dorset apple cake - very welcome after a long journey! Thank you for your hospitality - would love to return in the summer!

    Dawn2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • The acorns was lovely, cosy and very homey. I’ve never stayed at an air bnb that had such a well equipped kitchen! I really enjoyed my stay!

  • Peter and Ann are very nice couple. The place is at a peaceful village. Peter and Ann are very considerate, they provided homemade apple cake, fruits, milk, cereals, etc. It is just like your own home, there is everything you want to use for your own cooking, of course, you should buy your own food. I will come back again if we revisit that area around.

  • 2nd time at this lovely little annexe which is very comfortable, cosy and well equipped. Very quiet. Ann and Peter are very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast supplies very much appreciated. Nice country pubs nearby. Perfect for getting away from it all. We will return again. Rachel, Sam, Emily and Joe.

  • Ann and Peter were very friendly when they greeted us as we arrived. They showed us where everything was and had made some delicious Dorset apple cake as an extra special treat. It was very welcome after a 6 and a half hour journey! The accommodation was clean, warm, a lovely light space. We had everything you might need and some great provisions for breakfast the next morning. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The shower was good and the towels were big (always a plus plus point with my husband!) The main bedroom had plenty of space and the bunkbeds room was small but enough for somewhere to sleep. Beds were very comfy. The lounge and dining area was lovely and spacious, looking out onto decking and open fields. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Karen2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed at a few places now and this is has got to be the best we have stayed at. The hospitality was brilliant- Ann and Peter welcomed us and we loved the fact that milk, bread, eggs, butter, orange juice was provided and bananas which I had ran out off and my kids have bananas every morning so that was perfect for us. The Dorset Apple cake was sooo delicious. The place it self was fantastic- and the garden was beautiful. We will happily return

Annie was very quick to respond to my messages and there was lots of local tips when we arrived. We also loved the breakfast items, such a nice touch. In a great location to explore Dorset. • Emma made us feel very welcome when we arrived. The Milk shed is a lovely cosy little annexe and we enjoyed a very comfortable night in the stylish bedroom. The shower is great. Emma leaves a great selection of drinks, cereals, pastries and biscuits for breakfast. She was very keen to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Emma for your hospitality and we look forward to returning many times. Anne and Toby

  • Even though our stay was short, it was sweet. A beautiful, stylish and cosy place to stay. Emma is a wonderful host who quickly responds to any queries. Emma also met us at the entrance despite our arrival being almost midnight. We also had a lovely breakfast to help us with our early start the next morning and over all I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Definitely worth the value

  • You will find a welcome which could not be warmer and a wonderfully thoughtful hospitality. My dietary needs for breakfast were catered for incredibly generously. The room is so very cozy, the bedding marvellously comfortable, and everything is sparkling clean. Whether you prefer to drink your tea or coffee in a fine china cup or a pretty mug, the choice is available. My husband and I could not recommend any accommodation more highly.
