“River Café began as a small full-service café, operating summer only, with just a roof sheltering the tables from the elements. In 1995, it was transformed the open air space, enclosing it with windows and walls to expand the seating and operate year-round. They repurposed found materials and worked with local artists. Their vision was to create a unique restaurant that would feel as though it had always existed and that belonged in this remarkable setting along the Bow River. They built a fieldstone fireplace, created an open kitchen with an oven and grill that were fueled by orchard wood, and a bar made from a real boat. They created a large outdoor terrace overlooking the lagoon and landscaped it with mostly native plants that would flourish without irrigation.”

“Let’s not kid ourselves, you’re not walking through our doors because we’re excellent recyclers or because our energy bill is carbon neutral. The same way you’re not dragging yourself out of bed on Sunday because we do the majority of our sourcing from friends and local farmers. You’re coming in because you want to eat something life-affirmingly delicious while egg drips off your face. Well, us too. So why wax on about it? Our simple hope is this — as you say goodbye to that last bite of whatever it is you’re eating, we want it to taste just that much better because you know we did our best to be good people along the way. Bonus? By choosing to eat with us, you’re showing that you’re pretty good people too.”

“This is the only "Peter's Drive-in" located in Calgary! Their milkshakes are to die for, and their burgers are also some of the best I've ever had! WARNING: The "small" fries feeds a family of four!”

“Grocery shopping is a pleasure here. A nice mix of Italian and locally sourced foods. Look for the Valbella bacon from Canmore. If you're to lazy, tired, hungry to cook, the premade pastas are perfect to take home, and heat in the oven. The freshly baked breads and ciabatta are a must. ”

“Arrive early and be one of the lucky few to taste the ramen here. Serving just 150 bowls each day, Shiki Menya is focused on quality: all the noodles are handmade, all the soups are made entirely from scratch and all the meat is sourced from local farms.”
