I was raised in Monteverde where I have been living all my life listening all the different bird calls all the time, that I can recognize 99% of them. My 31 years experience made me very exigent to use different birdwatching places, depending the season or weather conditions to see as many birds as possible. We'll start birdwatching at 6:00 AM, where we'll see about 30 different species of birds at an elevation of about 4,500 feet above sea level. Then we'll stop at the cafeteria for a quick Costa Rican coffee. After that, we'll move up to Curicancha Reserve where we'll walk through two different life zones including different types of forests (secondary, transitional and primary) plus open areas where we'll be able to see much more variety of birds or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others.
