  • What a unique place! We stayed in the Hobbit hut and it was amazing! Stephen was a great host and couldn't have done more for us! The set up was great for having a few drinks or just chilling in the Jacuzzi! Will definitely be back

  • This was, by far, the coolest part of our whole Ireland trip! If you love uniqueness and great hospitality, you should definitely check it out. Thank you Stephen and Angela for a wonderful experience and providing everything we could’ve hoped for!

    Erin2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fantastic place. Spotless clean, toasty warm and great amenities and local. Stephen is a very accommodating host. We'll definitely be back again

    Nikki2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with great facilities, great atmosphere

    Andrew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time in Stephen's place. V quirky, cosy and full of lots of character. Stephen was a lovely host, helping us light the pizza oven etc. Easy to find and only 10 minutes from Castlebar town. Lovely to visit as a couple but would also be lovely to come back to as a group.

    Mairead2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The hobbit hut was lovely and cosy for us and our two boys, we didn't meet Stephen but his parents were fantastic. The pizza oven was a great addition, and the boys loved the cinema room. We didn't get to use the hot tub or sauna as the weather was terrible. We would love to return in better weather, and bring friends!

    Ruth2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We weren’t sure exactly where to go as we arrived after dark but someone was immediately there to warmly greet us and give us a full tour of the place. Absolutely incredible spaces, this place 100% worth checking out! We brought a pizza for the stone oven and enjoyed the hot tub (not a typical modern hottub - no jets) We had the place to ourselves since it was off season which was nice! I imagine it would feel much more busy in the summer. Cozy room, and comfy bed, would definitely love to stay here again!

Peaceful setting with beautiful small roads for walks and cycles, yet 7 minutes drive from Claremorris town (drive). The adjacent cottage is inhabited by the owners of the property and any queries or concerns will be dealt with immediately.
  • Katie and Richard provide the most calming and peaceful space you could imagine for a few days of rest and quiet - just what I needed when I came to stay here for 4 days. There are so many thoughtful touches that go beyond what you might expect in an Airbnb. This place really is special. The local walks are great, the company of the pet animals adds something special and Katie and Richard more than deserve the title ‘super hosts.’ I cannot wait to return. Thank you both.

    Niamh2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Katie and Richard were lovely, warm hosts, and the house itself was absolutely perfect for what we were looking for - it was so cosy, but spacious, too. The house was easy to get to, and is only about a €10-€12 taxi journey from Claremorris town if needed. We sat outside on the porch in the mornings and drank coffee, and we watched so many movies in the evening that we lost count. It was a perfect break away and we do hope to come back again.

    Meabh2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful getaway, beautiful touches, the perfect place to relax! Wonderful hosts, thank you so much!

    Aoife2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing get away and incredibly friendly hosts! Will for sure visit again soon. Thank you for everything Katie and Richard. You are both very lovely people x

    Dylan2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Katie were amazing hosts. The cabin is beautiful and cozy beyond words. We could not get enough of it. The welcome cookies and scones in the morning were pleasant surprises. We will definitely be going back soon!

    Sadhvi2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Birch Cottage is absolutely exquisite, warm, comfortable and homely. Katie & Richard are both very talented artists and the cottage is a superb gallery where we enjoyed contemplating the scenes and experiencing their magnificent art work as well as the Mayo countryside. The Cottage was a superb base for our little pilgrimage to Knock (10 mins away) and a haven of warmth, coziness and tranquility from the cold December weather. The daily scones were unexpected yet tasty and very welcome treats! We leave reluctantly today with fond memories of a great few days in Birch Cottage & a promise to return in the future!!!!

    Michael2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Katie & Richie are the highest caliber of hosts providing more than exemplary accommodations and touches. My wife and I felt so at home at the cabin and felt pampered throughout out our "too short" visit to county Mayo. They have a keen sense of true hospitality and welcomed us in like old friends, thank you so much for an unforgettable destination and time spent at your lovely property.

  • Amazing place to stay and we will definitely be back to stay with sean again. The house was sparkling clean, and everything went very smooth. The house was heated and the lovely stove lit for our arrival. When we came back to the house on Saturday evening from a cold wet day, the stove was lit again and house warm for our arrival. The house is ideally located with the towns of claremorris, castlebar amd Westport a short drive away. The welcome we received from the locals was amazing and the hospitality in the local pub was something we will never forget. We are looking forward to our return already to Sean’s and Ballyglass. • Sean's place is perfect for a cosy relaxing stay. We loved the turf stove. Good fully equipped kitchen.

    Stephen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It is a neat and lovely house, with more space than I expected. Two bathrooms, big kitchen. Good beds. Quiet place. And enough turf for the fireplace. The view on the mountains (from upstairs or outside) with snow on it between the green lands is fantastic. Lovely place to stay!

    Deborah2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Sean and his wife were very welcoming, fire was lit for us when we arrive and the cottage was so homely. Plenty of leaflets on what's available to do locally. Castlebar is nearby which has a great arcade for bowling games and a cinema. Westport is withington driving distance too. Plenty of options!

  • Really nice accomodation to stay for a week (or more) , lovely terrace with pool table and sauna, big space to enjoy even in raining days! Really comfortable and quiet! Thanks Declan!

    Andrea2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Declan's little cosy loft was exactly what myself and my partner had hoped for and much more. We didn't want the traditional getaway of a hotel etc. and we wanted to relax. The loft provided us with just that experience. The place itself was clean and had everything you needed. The pool table, mini gym, and sauna were excellent additions to our relaxing getaway. Declan was a great host who communicated with us very promptly and even when we had made a few last minutes date amendments he accommodated this without hesitation. We will most certainly return in the future and have recommended to friends.

Her space is cosy, comfortable & quiet, just what we needed in between visiting relatives. The location is ideal, out in the country, but still very close to Claremorris. • Lovely quiet bungalow on the edge of the town, stove was lovely and warm in the sitting room, and host said to make myself at home and had full access to kitchen and cooking if needed. Room was small & cosy with wifi and desk & chair and right next to bathroom which was spotless. Tricia the host was very helpful. Denis

    Don2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best and most excellent Air B&B experiences I ever had !! Prior arrival Tricia communicated very quickly with directions and tourist attractions to see in the area. Upon arrival I was stunned with the beauty of her house & big garden, which were decorated to the highest standard, cleanest rooms and bathroom facilities. Tricia asked me about my dietary requirements and made me a gourmet breakfast with fresh grounded coffee each morning. I was invited to use her kitchen, washing machine and beautiful living room. The house has a very positive atmosphere and the rooms are very private, the bed was super comfortable and the linen & towels of high quality .. like a 5*hotel .. . My stay with Tricia re-energized me, and it was a perfect holiday experience. Tricia was incredibly helpful with her time and advise, she is very professional, kind, respectful, caring and you can have a great chat with her :-) Tricia’s house is certainly the best place of you want to visit the Clarmorris area, it is very central and I highly recommend that you book several nights with her to get the full Mayo experience! It is a home if you are away from home and you will not want to leave :-) Thank you very much for having me Tricia and I look forward to book in with you during my next trip to Ireland :-))

    Uta2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was my best Airbnb experience so far. Tricia is an excellent host, very thoughtful and caring. She has picked me up by car and dropped me off when I was leaving too. We also went on a trip to a beach about an hour away. Tricia is very relaxed and always calm, enthusiastic about sharing stories and casual chatting, but also very respectful when you want some time on your own. The small town of Claremorris is very charming with all the amenities you need, a beautiful park and a lake, all within walking distance of Tricia’s house. I highly recommend staying with her as I definitely would again!

    Aneta2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb experience I ever had so far, it couldn't be better than this! I highly recommend whoever visit to Mayo to stay in Tricia's house. She kindly pick me up from the bus station, when I arrived at her place I just felt like home immediately. The interior of her house is so beautiful with exotic decorations, very clean and also comfortable. She is a very nice person with good humour, I was very enjoyed to chat with her and being there. There is a lovely walk and a lake, you can walk to the shops or town, the breakfast was great, just everything was perfect for me. Thank you Tricia :)

  • Matt's walk is extremely informative and well curated. He takes you through some of the less conventional spots in London that you wouldn't ordinarily know to look out for. He is not only knowledgeable about the place but also the history behind it and is happy to answer any questions you may have. He ensures that the tour is interactive and is also a great listener. He is also very accommodating to the needs of the group makes sure that everyone has a great time. Additionally, he also gave us some excellent food and drink recommendations.

  • A perfect place to stay. Clean, bright, quiet, spacious and modern. I was on a cycling trip and so the facts that there was a really good shower and that I could adjust the temperature of the room really easily were also important to me. Also, the place was really easy to find. Agnes was a great host and ensured that I had everything that I needed. Impossible to find fault with any aspect of my overnighter. Many thanks, Agnes!

The house is on an acre of private property in the heart of County Mayo in the west of Ireland. The views from the front of the house are of Lough Carra, a 4,000 acre lake famous for it's fishing and diverse wildlife.
The property is on the site of what was originally a boathouse for a country estate built in 1786. The boathouse still stands to the rear of the property. The house itself was built in 1968 by my grandfather, a keen fisherman, as a holiday home. When my grandfather passed away my father started renting the house mainly to fishermen, he even had a boat hire business that he ran from the old boathouse. The house looks south onto Lough Carra, a 4,000 acre lake. We have decking outside the house and garden furniture to relax on and enjoy the serenity. There is almost an acre of private property for guests to roam around in and a large lawn to relax or picnic on. We have an open fire which is the primary source of heating in the living room. The internet is quick and there is a strong mobile phone signal from the house. We have a few board games, playing cards and a vintage Rubix cube to while away the evenings by the fire. Many guests park their cars, close the gate and don't leave the property for a week.
  • We loved our stay at Moorehall. Patrick was a great host. It is like a beautiful little sanctuary away from the busy world. A true gem of a place in beautiful Mayo. We will definitely be back!

    Deirdre2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • You won't find a more amazing location than Patrick's place it's simply stunning. The peace and the quiet are second to none and it's so beautiful. If you're looking to get away from it all and enjoy nature then you won't find better. The accommodation had everything you could need and we really enjoyed our stay, I can't recommend it enough.

    Laura2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Believe all the reviews, this spot really is as lovely as everyone says. Set in its own private grounds, right on the lake, this is an ideal getaway for, well, anyone looking to get away! Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with good weather during my stay, but I still spent plenty of time out on the deck watching the lake and the many different inhabitants. I saw frogs, a swan family, starlings, moorhens, robins, magpies and, on my final morning, a grey heron, all up close (the frog sat in my hand!) . Completely unspoilt and with great woodland/ forest walks nearby in Moorehall. A really special place to stay. Bring all your own food and have a completely off-the-grid self-catering break. Also ideal for dark-sky watching- absolutely zero light pollution on a lake in a forest around 25 mins drive from any towns! Again, unfortunately, the weather didn't allow for much of this during my stay but I had just as good a time sat by the fire with the wind and rain beating down outside. Felt very safe here, despite being near nothing or no one. Really wish I'd had just one more day! For entertainment, Ballinrobe is a lively town with everything you could need (including a massive Tesco's for stocking up!) on an easy route around 25 mins drive away. Claremorris is roughly the same distance in another direction, lots of good places to eat and friendly people and independent shops. The cottage is simply a delightful place to zone out and enjoy wildlife. Absolutely delightful accommodation, a real find

    Lesley2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Patrick’s place was one of the most beautiful place where we have been. Right in front of the lake where you can do fishing and very quiet environment so you can sleep very well. He responded very quickly every time we had a question. If you wanna stay outside of city to look for a good calmness, this place offers you what you look for...

    Mami2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is an incredible place, very quiet and peaceful! A perfect spot to get away and relax a bit. Will absolutely be staying here again in the future.

    Will2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • A tranquil place to sit, be still and watch the world go by. This is a perfect hideaway or retreat for 1 or 2 with walks and nature right on the doorstep and a fire to spend the evening by. Wonderful

    Michael2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely the place to go if you want to get away from it all. Was peaceful and relaxing. We spent most of our days sitting taking in the wonderful view which constantly changes with the light and weather. There was plenty of wildlife - a mink, the swan family, ducks, a coot, dragonflies, frogs, a heron, kingfisher (all seen on or around the jetty at the front of the house) and at dusk you can watch the bats and murmuration of starlings along the front of the house. Every morning I went for a walk around the garden to see what new mushrooms had come up overnight. Moorehall is at the back of the house on the other side of the road, lovely place for a forest walk. The house was better than expected as I had expected a glorified boathouse / shed and it was surprisingly cosy and warm. For a small space it is well decorated/designed with plenty of storage. The kitchen is more than adequate and has a lovely wooden worktop. The bed was very comfortable and has an electric blanket if needed. The house is a good base for exploring Mayo & Galway. We visited Kylemore Abbey, Clifden, Cong, Galway, Westport, Newport, Achill Island and Castlebar. Claremorris and Ballinrobe are both nearby for shopping or if you want to eat out. We visited The Old Arch in Claremorris a couple of times and the sunday lunch was really good. If we ever visit the area again we would stay here - excellent value for money.

    Jennifer2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

Town house in the centre of Ballinrobe, with private parking and close to all amenities. This is the ideal location to base yourself if you intend touring in the West of Ireland-from Connemara to Killala, from Ballintubber to Balla. It is also near the Wild Atlantic Way, and the Greenway. You will get a great welcome and you will have free access to the sitting room to relax and to the kitchen should you want to cook. I will suggest scenic routes to take to tour or cultural events happening.
The house is centrally located in the town-just across from Flannery's Tavern. It is surrounded by other take out and sit-in restaurants and shops. Cong, with its famous Abbey and Ashford Castle, is 10k away and is a great spot for lovely wooded walks. Knock Airport is about 70km away.
A quiet area, though located right in this historic town, you will be able to walk all around the town. Ballinrobe is a small town, with loads of sites of interest-the old Workhouse, the Military Barracks, a number of mills, a lovely river walk called The Bowers, many sports grounds and a Leisure Centre. Children usually love the great playground in the Green. Ballinrobe is near the Gaeltacht areas of Tourmakeady and Cornamóna, providing it with a rich cultural flavour.

Thoughtful & welcoming. The house is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. This was a special stay. I can’t wait to return.

  • Sara is a very welcoming person, her house is perfect, we could cook without problem. Sara had booked us a shelf in her fridge and another in her closet. She did everything to make us feel comfortable on vacation. She even shared with us her birthday cake. Even if she does not speak French and we do not English, we managed to exchange with help google translation and a notebook and pencil. Sara will remain for us the best host we have had in Ireland (out of 5).

  • We had a fab stay at Woodgarlic farm in December. We have 2 kids (4 & nearly 3). We wanted something outdoorsy, rustic, relaxed etc... and this is exactly what we got. The mobile home is almost next door to Liz & Jeremy's cottage, so there is that comfort in knowing that they are close by should you need anything. However, at the same time the mobile home is on a different level and very private. We loved having the old stove. It kept us lovely & cosy and we cooked on it. There's a knack to running it (which your hosts will help you with if you need it). There's lots to see and do on the farm. Interesting for both young & old. Chickens (collecting the eggs), dogs, sheep, forest, walks, beautiful big trees, a tree house, bog land, willow, streams, random box of outdoor toys for the kids. We had a camping toilet in the mobile home which we used at night (or kids for emergencies & it didn't smell) and our main toilet was the compost toilet out in the veranda extension part. We loved the compost toilet. Liz & Jeremy also have lovely, friendly neighbours whom you might bump into when out for a walk. All in all, a great place, friendly & welcoming for families, couples or singles. I can only imagine it's a magical place in the summer!!!

  • We had a lovely stay at the Wood Garlic Farm! Jeremy was a very personable host and made sure we were well equipped. The internet didn't work with my devices and there wasn't reception for my data so it was difficult to make any travel plans and do 'places to see' research, so not the best place if you need to be connected.. but a great place if you're looking to be disconnected!

Carmel recommended us to a local pub and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal there. Great that we didn’t have to travel back into town. Carmel provided us with a delicious breakfast with fresh eggs, smoked salmon and wonderful soda bread. Perfect....

  • This wonderful house is a wonderfully equipped base for you. Cait has thought of everything! The recycling bins are all labelled so you know just what to do with your waste. Their are a few logs and fire lighters to get you started should you wish to enjoy a cosy evening in in front of the fire. There was 8 of us and there was so much space, we could have had another few people with us and there would have been plenty of room for them too. The house has everything you could think off, washers, dryers, hot showers, plenty of clean towels, tea, sugar, milk too. Cait had even left us a welcome pack of rashers and sausages too. We will definitely be back and cannot thank Cait enough. x

  • I would highly recommend staying here!! This house has great amenities and is in a wonderful location that was easy to find. Cait was always quick to respond and also gave us things to do in the area and how long it takes to get there which helped us plan our days. Easy check in/out. We would stay here again!

    Dawn2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Residence is a spacious, clean and cosy stay with Cait going above and beyond the call of duty to provide us with a comfortable stay. We stayed with a toddler and baby and Cait supplied toys, a travel cot, stair gate and high-chairs which was brilliant! The house was spotless and Cait showed us where to put any of our rubbish, where to find wood for the fire and how to use all amenities. Cait was great at replying to us, never had to wait too long for a reply which gave us great peace of mind on our stay We were staying here as part of a pilgrimage to Knock and it was very close, just 15minutes down the road and is actually right next door to a Church, which we enjoyed calling into with the children in the morning and evening to pray together. Wish we could have stayed longer, but will definitely look into this property again next time we visit Knock :)

This cottage is situated in the lovely peaceful village of Belcarra which is 6 miles outside the town of Castlebar in Co. Mayo. It has just been fully restored and extended (Nov 19). It has 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 single), living area, kitchen and dining room. It is self-contained with a front garden and ample off-street parking to the rear. It is a short stroll to the shops, pubs and other amenities in the village and a 15 min drive from the local town where there is no shortage of retail.
Belcarra (Gaelic Baile na Cora) is a small village in central Mayo with a population of approx 150 people, 8km from Castlebar. Amenities: St Anne's Church Post Office Community Centre National School Grocery Store 2 Pubs Butchers Recycling Facilities Riverside Walk Carra Caravaning and Camping Archaeology The area is steeped in history and archaeology - an Archaeological survey of the area was carried out in 1988, which identified 186 archaeological sites including souterrains, fulachta fiadh, crannogs, ringforts, burial mounds, churches, childrens burial grounds, castles and standing stones. Stone-age and bronze-age artefacts recovered during the survey testify that the Belcarra area has been inhabited for over 4000 years and these artefacts are exhibited in the Community Centre. Elmhall graveyard is of great Archaeological and historical interest. Tumulus graves have been discovered in the Carrajames area, excavated in 1934 - 36 and bronze age burial grounds were found - showing evidence of habitation as early as 2000 BC. An ancient spring well has been restored at Roslahan and is widely used. Fishing Cloonaugh Lake and Walshpool Lough offer plenty of opportunity for fishing in the local area. Belcarra Eviction Cottage This 19th century cottage, once the home of a family of nine, was the scene of the last eviction in Belcarra, in County Mayo. Located near Belcarra village, off the Claremorris to Castlebar road (N60). The Belcarra Eviction Cottage, in Belcarra County Mayo, was the scene of the final eviction in this area; when the Walshe family were evicted by the landlord's agents in October 1886. This cottage has now been restored as a heritage centre and has been refurbished to how it would have looked before the eviction. There are life sized cut outs in the cottage produced by local artist, Bridie Geraghty and it is furnished with typical household implements of the era. Other interesting contents include a history of local place names, Griffith's Valuation of 1848, the 1901 census of Elmhall and Belcarra, plus headstone inscriptions from the local Guesdian, Elmhall, Drum and Protestant graveyards. Also nearby is a 'tigín', a simple shelter built by the neighbours to house the evicted family.
  • Beautifully modernised house with all facilities and all with a lovely Irish welcome - a perfect place for peace and quiet.....with all the mod cons ....!!!!!

When I got home, Mary was waiting for me and I had a great reception from the couple, with some food, some delicious homemade scones and a hot drink. Mary helped me a lot in traveling (I didn't have a car) and also, in good tips of places to visit. The whole stay was very pleasant, I was very well received and the care of the couple were a constant. If you ever think of visiting Knock or the surrounding area, don't hesitate to choose Mary's house. The breakfast is divine and varied and Mary is lovely.
