  • Lindsey’s place is a great stay. The space is super clean, lovely decor and it’s great the private bathroom is right next door. It’s a couple minutes walk to Clare’s pubs and shops, which were fun to spend the evening in. Really great stay and would recommend to anyone wanting to check out the nice towns around here.

  • a beautiful little cabin/pod its quite and peacefully. exactly what was needed to escape the day to day hustle and bustle of life.

    Chef2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my husband booked to stay 1 night at the anglers pod because we were visiting two sets of friends, my husband is a fisherman and we both love camping, we took our gas camping stove 2x sleeping bags table and chairs and a portaloo. We didn't take any fishing gear because we weren't staying long. We didn't need most of what we took, the pod was equipped with a double bed which can convert to two singles, there was a picnic table outside and a fire pit with ample logs free to use. Steve even offered to take orders for the local co op in the village. The snack wagon run by Carol has a wide variety of the usual breakfast dishes and sandwiches all made fresh to order. There are plenty of spotlessly clean toilets and showers plus a nicely equipped field kitchen. The lakes are beautiful and next time we go my husband will definitely fish.

    Kirsten2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for an amazing stay - Safe to say this made my boyfriends year catching his PB at 31.2lbs! Couldn’t have done it without Steve either! Getting involved and helping when needed. The hut is lovely and overlooks the lake, there is everything you’d need for a stay, and made even more comfortable with having a proper toilet and shower nearby as well. The shop on site sells all you might need which is incredible handle - And the bacon roll was lovely as well. We’ve already booked our trip back for a few weeks time! A little gem! Thanks so much again!

The Studio is a light, airy modern single story self contained dwelling attached to our cart lodge that is within the garden of our thatched cottage. The area is semi rural and quiet but within easy walking distance (about 5 minutes) of Clare town. We also provide basics like towels, tea/coffee/milk at the beginning for each stay.
There is room on the drive for guests to park 1 small to medium car free of charge during their stay. The garden is fairly large but not exclusive to guests only, so please be aware that the owners are keen gardeners and will be working in the garden at times during the day.
Our cottage is on the outskirts (and originally part of) Clare Priory, a working St. Augustine Roman Catholic establishment that was founded in 1248. There is a church and a retreat within The Priory. The area is steeped in history and known for beautiful walks. Clare itself is only a five minute walk away, together with Clare Country Park similarly situated.
  • Really lovely little independent flat with all you could need, lovely hosts made us very welcome :-)

    Jon2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was a really lovely space to spend a couple of nights. We were attending a wedding in Clare, which was about a 5-10 minute walk away. The country park is also very close and beautiful to wander around. The guest suite had everything we needed-kitchen, bathroom, WiFi, tv and was completely separate to the main house so we didn’t disturb our hosts when we were coming and going. The garden was a beautiful place to sit and look out over the fields. Mark was very helpful and friendly, gave us lots of information and was very good at returning messages. Thank you again, we had a lovely stay

    Chelsea2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful location. Hosts are lovely and the Studio is nice and clean.

    Jennie2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for making our weekend so special! Although we were planning on the studio just being a base, it became the best bit of our weekend away. The village was a short walk away through a quiet off-road path. The area around the studio was stunning (blew our expectations). The studio was spacious and clean. Mark + Carol couldn't of been more helpful and welcoming. We'd like to return and visit more of Clare and the local area. We'd definitely recommend staying here.

  • Super accommodating and lovely offer to allow us to check out later than planned. Perfectly picturesque and peaceful mini break away. Thank you :)

    Sophie2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! The place is soooo much bigger than in the pictures! Some lovely added extras. Mark and Carol go out their way to help you and give you all the advice they can with any aspect of your trip! Even walked us to the local town which was beautiful! Literally the best air bnb we’ve ever stayed at and already planned to come back every over month it was that perfect!

  • Great place, would happily stay again

  • This is a real gem of a place. The location on the edge of Clare almost in the grounds of Clare Priory is beautiful. The hosts were very welcoming and provided lovely little extra touches which I appreciated very much. The studio itself is a lovely space, clean, tasteful and very comfortable. It’s actually bigger than the photos suggest, with clearly defined and separated kitchen and bedroom areas. Thank you for a very relaxing stay.

Quiet, spacious garden-facing double bedroom, with private bath/shower room, offering a warm and comfortable welcome. Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the village centre and an award winning pub which offers excellent meals together with a hearty breakfast. Garage, parking and bicycles are available. Pets welcome – I have a very friendly Dachshund. Additional bedrooms available on request.
A bright and spacious double bedroom is offered in a modern, Edwardian style house with large rooms and high ceilings. The room, which is quiet and overlooking the garden, is adjacent to your private bath/shower room. Included is usage of toiletries, a hairdryer and HD TV with DVD player. You are welcome to make yourself at home. There is a log burning open fire in a large sitting room, a dining room and study. Fibre broadband is available throughout the house. The south-east facing garden runs down to the river Stour with a small bridge over it to trees and wild flowers beyond. There is a lockable garage, with space for bikes, and off-road private parking. Rose House is situated at the edge of CAVENDISH, one of Suffolk’s prettiest villages in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.’ A warm assembly of pinkly pleased thatched cottages cluster round a sloping, and much photographed, green and elegant 14th century church in a fairy tale setting of countryside. The characters from ‘Lord of the Rings’, like Bilbo and Frodo seem more at place here than 21st century man! That said, there is a shop 3 minutes’ walk away, 2 pubs and a pub restaurant.
Note the 16th century timber framed farmhouse Nether Hall; the 19th century Cavendish Hall; the 15th century flushwork panelling and clerestory in the church. The nearby area offers space and peace, gently rolling countryside and picturesque villages with thatched, colour washed cottages; scenes that have inspired some of England’s greatest painters. Villages such as Lavenham, Long Melford, Flatford and Dedham famed for their churches, timbered buildings and antique shops, Clare, Kersey, Chelsworth and Monks Eleigh all merit exploration on foot, by bicycle or by car. Cambridge and Newmarket are within easy reach.
  • We enjoyed our stay with Colin. Everything was as described. A lovely village with many walks and a friendly pub.

  • The quintessential English gentleman and home! Beautiful home, the room was comfortable. Just down (300 feet) the street is a pub which made things easier when getting acclimated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Colin is a great host and knows the area very well. Would stay here again!

  • You will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with a very thoughtful host in his beautiful home. My partner and I felt really at home even though it was over Christmas and we both arrived quite unwell. Colin was very kind and we would love to return in the summer to make the most of the lovely garden too. Our greyhound was so taken with the facilities and Colin's little dog, Ratticus that we actually both got into our car before we realised he wasn't with us, but lying on the rug in the hall!

Optional ‘extras’ include BBQ and food packages, tent hire, linens, towels and more, enabling you to tailor your break to your budget.

Lavender Cottage is a delightful period cottage situated in the heart of the picturesque Medieval market town of Clare, Suffolk. It is in walking distance of a supermarket, butchers, pubs, and a variety of independant shops and cafes. The cottage offers a blend of period features with modern finishes to create a stylish and comfortable home, providing you the perfect base to explore the surrounding areas. The cosy living room features a gas log effect stove and dining area.
With comortable beds, plenty of storage, a well equipped kitchen, a cosy living room and a courtyard garden to the rear, we hope we have provided all you need for a relaxing break.
Clare is a magical town, full of modern day amenities but good old fashioned tradition. I love wandering around the vintage shops, gift shops and book shop followed by afternoon tea in one of the cafes which offer a good selection of home made fare. There is a market every third Saturday starting on the 21st March. The cottage is a few minutes drive away from the nine hole pay and play golf course and there are several National Trust properties to visit nearby. Infact there is plenty to do and see for all ages.

The cottage is set in a very quiet courtyard, with its own undercover parking in a cart lodge opposite. The village is a very friendly environment, with lots of walks, parks & a river nearby. There is a beautiful church in the village too. There is a Nisa supermarket 150 yards away, open from 8 to 8, that sells everything from fresh baked French sticks to wine, groceries, newspapers etc, & a much lauded butcher round the corner, next door to a Chinese takeaway.
The lovely towns of Cambridge, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds & Saffron Walden are all 30-40 minutes away, & Clare, another pretty village, is 10 minutes away. We are happy to give you information about places to visit, nearby pubs; there are several within 5 miles, & places to shop & places to eat.
As above, beautiful countryside walks, parks & the river nearby, the lovely pubs, etc. Nearby Haverhill has numerous takeaways, a leisure centre, restaurants, cinema, sport facilities, gyms, & a small market on Friday & Saturday mornings.
  • Had a wonderful stay, and host Brian is friendly and accommodating! The cottage comes with all amenities one would need for a short or long term stay. The nearby corner shop and local pub proved very convenient too!

Idyllically located on the banks of Rum Bridge Fisheries' Moat pleasure fishing lake, this large insulated glamping pod is simply furnished with a Kingsize bed, table and chairs and outdoor seating, and equipped with solar lighting and USB device charging. Ideal for a couple or family with one-two small children seeking to recharge the batteries in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
This comfortable, intimate space provides the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern city life: an oasis of calm and all-too-rare opportunity to reconnect with nature in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. Be warned, though. Peace comes at a price. Rum Bridge is ‘offgrid’: the pod’s electricity supply is limited to solar lighting and device-charging, and is thus governed by the notoriously capricious English weather. So don’t be surprised to be issued with LED lamps in the heart of winter.
Nestling in the midst of the tranquil Suffolk countryside, just a short hop from historic Bury St Edmunds and the world renowned university city of Cambridge, the medieval wool town of Clare boasts a rich and diverse history; and a host of attractions and distractions which belie its diminutive size - including a monthly artisan market, galleries, antique shops, a golf course, cafes, pubs and restaurants. At its heart: Clare Castle Country Park; home to the remains of a 13th Century stone castle keep set on a 70ft-high motte commanding panoramic views of the town. Circumscribed by the meandering, reed fringed River Stour, and providing a glorious setting for a picnic or a preprandial stroll, the park is also the site of the original Clare Railway Station, in whose 1865 bookings hall you’ll find the unique Platform One cafe, which offers mouthwatering home cooked meals and snacks throughout the day. Of similar historic significance, the nearby Clare Priory dates back to 1248, making it one of the oldest religious houses in England; and the Ancient House Museum, located off the bustling market square, offers fascinating insights into the 2,000-year history of what is Suffolk's smallest town. Foodies, too, will be spoilt for choice, thanks to a wealth of bistros, restaurants, takeaways, traditional and gastro pubs. And walkers will delight in the area’s many circular walks and the town trail, which take in architecture from almost every period in history, and demonstrate why Clare was recently awarded the much coveted ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ status. • The hut is a lovely place to stay, a perfect little break away. Showers are clean, and hot water. Carol was so friendly, and bend over backwards to help us with late check in. Thank you.

  • We had a very short stay with Steve and Carol for just one night, and we were not happy. To have to leave such a wonderful place so soon was heartbreaking! We had a warm cosy night in the pod listening to the rain and owls hooting, and a lovely morning in the sunshine with the chickens, ducks and ducklings- perfection! The guides to Clare in the pod were fantastic, we would recommend The Cock Inn to anyone staying for great food!

    Lauren2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is beautiful. We felt like we were able to truly relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Steve and Carol are both so helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. They provided us with lots of information for places to visit, eat and drink. The pod itself is lovely. It was warm and had everything we needed. Each morning opening the door to the beautiful tranquil scenery was fantastic. I would recommend this venue to any couples or families looking for a peaceful stay at somewhere truly unique.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the glamping pod. Great spot, so relaxing and great way to spend a weekend out the city. Steve and his wife we’re fantastic hosts and even let us rent fishing equipment for us to use during our stay. We would highly recommend if you want to stay somewhere to relax and unwind. We already planning to book their bell tent next time.

  • A great, quiet little get away pod which was very clean and well equipped. We weren't fishing but still enjoyed the grounds and array of chickens/ducks kept us company. A two minute drive from a few shops and takeaways. Showers and toilets were spotless. Hot showers, solar powered electricity in the pod, comfortable bed and very welcoming staff. Free firewood and a very laid back attitude. Exactly what we wanted for a night away. Refreshing to find somewhere that cares more about the quality of your stay than the amount of money you spend. Will defiantly be back.

  • Adam's place was a fantastic little get away. It offered a complete level of privacy and supported all short stay, individual needs. I would reccomend it to others. Adam was a very flexible host and was very forgiving with our poor time keeping, thank you!

Ship Stores Bed & Breakfast is a 17th Century timber framed listed building that was originally three cottages. Later an external staircase led to drinking rooms, above which were used by local sheep farmers. It is believed the name "ship" is a corruption of "sheep" Ship Stores is located in the Suffolk village of Clare. The County of Suffolk abounds in historical and beautiful towns and villages. Of the smaller towns Clare has a deeply fascinating history.
No other Suffolk town can offer the special combination of interest to be found here. The Country Park, a haven of conservation and preservation as well as a place of recreation, a 13th century Priory and a great Gothic Wool Church. A 16th century hostelry and a number of pubs, some of great antiquity, all serving excellent food. Hotel accommodation and the traditional bed and breakfast are available in the town. There are a selection of antique shops and art galleries to visit, as well as a comprehensive range of excellently stocked shops.

Idyllically located on the banks of a mature reed-fringed carp fishing lake, this large insulated glamping pod is simply furnished with a Kingsize bed, table and chairs and outdoor seating, and equipped with solar lighting and USB device charging. The lake itself is home to an impressive head of king carp (commons and mirrors, to 42lbs+), with fishing available to holidaymakers at a discounted rate.
Although the accommodation is 'offgrid', all guests have the benefit of hot showers, flush toilets, and a well-stocked tackle and bait shop. The pod is equipped with a comfortable Kingsize bed, table and chairs, and outdoor seating with umbrella as standard. Optional ‘extras’ include additional beds, barbecue (fire pits, grills, fuel and tools) and food (inc. vegetarian options) packages, tent and ‘bivvy’ hire (for additional guests), linens, towels and so on – enabling you to tailor your break to your budget.
Rum Bridge is located around a mile from the centre of Clare, in the heart of the tranquil Suffolk countryside. Just a short hop from historic Bury St Edmunds and the world renowned university city of Cambridge, this picturesque medieval wool town boasts a rich and diverse history; and a host of attractions and distractions which belie its diminutive size - including a monthly artisan market, galleries, antique shops, a golf course, cafes, pubs and restaurants. At its heart: Clare Castle Country Park; home to the remains of a 13th Century stone castle keep set on a 70ft-high motte commanding panoramic views of the town. Circumscribed by the meandering, reed fringed River Stour, and providing a glorious setting for a picnic or a preprandial stroll, the park is the site of the original Clare Railway Station, in whose 1865 bookings hall you’ll find the unique Platform One cafe, which offers mouthwatering home cooked meals and snacks throughout the day. Of similar historic significance, the nearby Clare Priory dates back to 1248, making it one of the oldest religious houses in England; and the Ancient House Museum, just off the bustling market square, offers fascinating insights into the 2,000-year history of what is Suffolk's smallest town. Foodies, too, will be spoilt for choice, thanks to a wealth of bistros, restaurants, takeaways, tea rooms, and traditional and gastro pubs. And walkers will delight in the area’s many circular walks and the town trail, which take in architecture from almost every period in history, and demonstrate why Clare was recently awarded the much coveted ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ status. Though the ‘usual High Street suspects’ - Poundland, Costa, Subway and the like - are refreshingly conspicuous by their absence, Clare offers a panoply of independent shops including a butcher, several hairdressers, beauty salon, antique shops, a Post Office and Co-Op. Nearby Haverhill has a Cineworld, a gym and choice of popular ‘chain’ restaurants and takeaways including KFC, Prezzo and Ben & Jerry’s. And Bury St. Edmunds and Cambridge - both around 30 minutes away by car - provide all the retail therapy you could possibly need (and then some).

  • The Old Smithy is such a lovely place. Much bigger space than the pictures let on with a decent bedroom downstairs and another upstairs. The kitchen and bathroom were really nice and beautifully clean. There is a great selection of board games and TV and great selection of dvds in the pantry but most of all my girlfriend and I LOVED the log burner. It was so nice just relaxing watching the fire all cosy. Would 100% recommend staying here. We really want to go back soon.

  • Verity is a great host. The smithy is such a beautiful space & has everything you could need. It’s nice to come away from modern distractions & enjoy playing a board game!

  • Verity’s cottage is a charming, stylish country getaway. Verity was so quick to respond to questions and requests and really went the extra mile to make our trip easy. The cottage is small but adorable and beautifully designed. It was perfectly cosy on our winter visit. Because it’s a small space there are a few logistical things to be aware of (probably want to keep the table stored away when you’re not using it, need to be careful of the loft ladder when you enter the bedroom) but we were totally comfortable with two couples and a baby staying in the cottage. The local area was lovely for a winter visit (best with a car or with the help of the local taxi company who were friendly and easy to use) and I imagine it would be gorgeous for a summer visit too.

The clearly secluded location is essentially based around an old farmyard & barns from a previous century it's function now in the past, Cherry Tree cottage sits within a very attractive, interesting, and historical area in which to explore. Featuring exposed timbers & brickwork with much history & character to be discovered. For you the guest, assistance is available to enable you to get the very most from your stay, with help to settle in so as to ensure you are fully appraised & comfortable.
Cherry Tree Cottage was in times past a farmworkers cottage, in the actuality of it's day it was originally two cottages, with it's wealth of exposed timbers, old redbrick farmyard walls, to the uneven floors, walls, and curios, which are all a part of it's charm set in a secluded centre of village location. There is a fully fitted kitchen complete with adjacent breakfast area, whilst just beyond that is the dining area with gate legged table and four chairs, also available upon request is a highchair. The living room area includes a comfortable two seater sofa, there is very good speed fibre WiFi, and a smart freeview TV, as seen in the photos there is an installed woodburner that I must ask you not to use just yet, as it is due for a replacement chimney liner which is paramount for it's safe use. The first floor bathroom is clean, warm, & bright, complete with integeral bath/shower, heated towel rail, electric shaver/toothbrush charging point. The two seperate bedrooms do not have privacy locks and are situated off a common landing which also accomodates a comunal wardrobe, ironing board, and iron, there is also facility for a stairgate which can be added upon request. Bedroom one has a double bed, sitting/reading area, complete with a chest of drawers in which the hair dryer is located. Bedroom two being a twin room having two single beds contains a small chest of drawers. Being fully insulated the whole cottage is very cosy, so whilst benefitting from individual thermostatically controlled electric heating radiators in every room it subsequently has very little to disturb the tranquility should you need just that extra bit of warmth of an evening. Outside and to one side of the cottage there is secure parking on the driveway for one single car, should you require more parking spaces there is free parking available nearby in the main street just outside the entrance to Clarks Yard. The very modest garden is provided with a seating area around a garden table complete with parasol and four chairs (weather permitting) - for a young family with the gates closed this will offer a secure area for children to play, there is also the addition of an outdoor rotary clothes dryer, which can be simply installed should it be required. Should you wish to maintain a dialouge on these or for any further information and assistance, this can be expanded upon before and during your stay, please do ask.
Cherry Tree Cottage is situated in a central location in this most picturesque of rural villages, Cavendish has much to offer the visitor, there is much to be had with such views and locations in and around the locality, for when leaving the cottage and by turning right out of "The Yard" to enjoy a leisurely five minuite walk past 'The Waver' (village pond) and the beautiful buildings that adorn this most quintessential of english villages that will bring you to the top of "The Green" which is quite literally the central hub of the village, there you will discover "The Five Bells" a traditional pubic house, which can be found to be a refuge for good british beers, there is also the village primary school as well as a public playground for the children and good seating areas for taking in the view, while very close to this location is St Mary's church, although not this actual building that you will see today, there is mention of a Saxon built church in this very location listed in 'The Doomsday book' of 1086, so a visit if only for it's historical connections to that and the perceived rebel 'Wat Tyler' who was a leader of the peasants revolt against King Richard II during 1381 AD and had his connections to Cavendish back in the day. On Friday evenings there will often be bell ringing practice until 9pm, personally I enjoy the sound of the church bells, and I hope that you also can come to enjoy their sound if only for that brief hour and a half. Having walked to the Five Bells and the church you could not failed to have noticed on route, "The George" restaurant, you would be well advised to book ahead for this is a very popular eatery with fine dining on the menu, for if you are not wishing to cook and looking for an excellent meal out, I would heartly recommend that you look at their lunchtime & evening menus, as both Bonnie and her marvellous assistants will make you feel very welcome indeed in the comfortable surroundings of this old timber framed establishment. Continuing around the village there is also a tea room, the village shop "Duck or Grouse" - the name makes sense when you actually arrive - where they stock many household provisions, newspapers, wine, bacon, eggs, and sausages, etc, etc, I also have to mention the superb Sue Ryder charity shop in 'The Old Cinema' building if only for it's window displays, whilst on the opposite side of the road there is a very small art gallery, as well as there being a craft centre, whilst just outside of Cavendish by around half a mile, is 'Willow Tree Farm shop' with it's vast array of superbly presented organic local produce, so that with the not only knowledgeable but also cheerful Matthew & Debbie & thier staff always on hand to assist you in gathering your grocery supplies.

Welcome to Puddleducks, a cosy 2 bed cottage on the Essex/Suffolk border. This attractive Victorian house is nestled in the heart of the picturesque rural hamlet of Belchamp Walter, overlooking the village duck pond. A ideal retreat for couples and small families, Puddleducks offers delightful country walks and is positioned well for a selection of great traditional pubs. Equidistant from Long Melford, Castle Hedingham and Sudbury, as well as accessible to Stansted airport - 40 minutes by car.
Belchamp Walter is a place you really have to be consciously looking for to come across it. It's not a through village, just a tucked away and preserved quintessential English village. The centre, with its feature duck pond and attractive selection of character buildings, justifies its conservation area status. With rarely a passing car and no other noises other than the "quacks" of local residents, the location complements the calming feel of the cottage. I've always felt there's no better spot to visit when you want to clear your mind. I can't name many other places that you can sit on the front lawn with a good book and a glass of wine for hours and not be disturbed! I really hope you enjoy the tranquil and slow-paced atmosphere as much as I do.
  • Murray was a great host. The hamper and fresh flowers were a nice touch. The cottage was extremely cosy and the shower was excellent. The location made day trips for walks/exploration to nearby towns/villages very easy and the bed comfy after a long day of doing so. Would recommend a stay here.

  • We stayed at Puddleduck Cottage over Christmas. It was immaculately clean and welcoming. There were lovely touches such as Christmas decorations and a lovely little hamper, and milk in the fridge ( which was welcoming after a long journey). It made visiting and welcoming family and friends easy over the Christmas time. Murray is a great host and kept us informed of details. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a lovely stress free stay in Belchamp Walter. Thankyou Murray for making our Christmas amazing 🎄.

  • I just stayed here with my two children, we absolutely loved it, Steve and Carol were great, the facilities were close and nice and clean with hot water. My children loved the ducks and chickens wandering round, it was so nice to just relax with space to ourselves, we booked our next stay before we had even left and we can't wait to go back, Thankyou.

  • Had a fantastic time in the bell tent. Hosts very accommodating. Definite bonus having an on food and drink truck on site with such good prices. Breakfast was a treat. Everything you could wish for in the one place and Alfie thoroughly enjoyed his first ever attempt at fishing by pulling out two huge tench. Definitely booking again shortly before everyone finds out bout this little gem.

  • J was an excellent host. She responded very prompt when our co-workers needed help or advice. We will definitely come again.

  • Brilliant cottage, never stayed in Cavendish it is really beautiful. Jayne was great throughout the time we were there messaging back with any queries we had. The cottage was a lot bigger than it looked on the photos, was really clean and presentable and had everything we needed for a family with 3 children ( 1 under 2). My children really enjoyed the swingball and French bowls out in the garden. Bedrooms were big and beds very comfortable. Arrived after a horrendous 8 hour journey to a lovely bottle of wine... Which was most needed!! Visited Lavenham and Clare Country park whilst we were there and both are really lovely. Will definitely be visiting again thank you very much 😄

  • A cute little cottage in the most glorious village. Excellent local info and a very handy location a short stroll from the George (where we had a lovely dinner).

    Joe2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jayne was a responsive and helpful host, booking us a table at the George in the village, and plenty of suggestions for places to visit in the local area. Bottle of wine and milk in the fridge on arrival was very welcome! Sweet little cottage with a lovely garden in lovely village.

    Rachel2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • A nice property in a nice village. Pros: Very clean. Excellent communication from the owner. Excellent value for money A bottle of wine as a welcome (thank you) A cosy property with all you could need Practical points to consider: The bathroom is downstairs. This could be of benefit or disadvantage for someone with a disability. My mum struggles with mobility, and it was a point to note. There isn't much the homeowner can do about this, but it is worthy of note if you have a disability. We parked on the small area outside the front of the property. It did not present an issue, but if you come with more than one car you may need to park one approx 80yards along the road. A very positive stay, and if I visited Cavendish again I would not hesitate in rebooking.

    Gary2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and very reasonable price for the whole house.

    Nancy2019-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little cottage with a great open fire that we thoroughly enjoyed. Very good location, close by pubs and easy parking. Great for a weekend away in the country. Very good and fast communication from host.

Planning your next rural retreat? Book Rum Bridge Fisheries’ Road Lake on an exclusive basis - for you & up to 2 friends - & we’ll take care of the accommodation; providing you with: * an extra-large sleeps-3 bivvy - equipped with 2 wide boy luxury carp beds, solar lighting/charging (& optional third bed) * kitchen/dining tent, with worktop and optional stove, grill, cookware & seating * unhooking mat, weigh sling, tripod & landing net **PLUS FREE FISHING**
Your exclusive booking means you’ll have the entire lake to yourself - enabling you and your friends to target an impressive head of carp (to 32lbs+), tench, crucians, roach, rudd and pike in complete comfort - without interruption or interference. Or just to chill, with a barbecue and a beer, on the banks of this pretty, reed-fringed water, in the heart of the tranquil Suffolk countryside. You can also take advantage of hot showers, flush toilets, and a well-stocked tackle and bait shop. And an extensive menu of hot and cold snacks, breakfasts, light lunches and meals are available throughout the day, from the onsite Carper's Kitchen. What’s not to love?
  • Steve and Carol are two amazing people. I got there just after 1 on the Friday for 48 hrs carp fishing Steve was there to welcome me after the usual meet and greet he took me my bivvy where to my amazement I found two extra large boy flat beds a good strong near new bivvy with a self contained kitchen all ready to go with every thing you need. My friend then turned up we are both very complished bank rats so the luxury was nice. I managed 2 beautiful fish out and James 1. The fish where true beautiful worriors using pallatrax jungle seemed my edge. Steve's tackle emporium has just about everything any carp angler could need. Carol cooked me and James a mega all day breakfast Friday night and Steve did a take away/shop run for all the lads on all 3 lakes somthing that completed the stay we didn't have to feel in as every thing comes deliverd to the swim courtesies of Steve or Carol. Already booked to go back in the near future on the big fish water. Defo one to go try worth every penny.

A charming grade II listed thatched cottage located in the pretty semi-rural village of Foxearth on the Suffolk/Essex border provides an excellent base to explore both counties. The cottage is situated on a quiet private lane with parking for 2 cars and is surrounded by farmland with a network of footpaths near by. There's lots to do in the area with the medieval village of Lavenham and the historic town of Bury St Edmunds both close by. The beautiful Suffolk coast great for a day trip.
Part of the cottage originally formed the end section of a small aisled hall in the 13th century with later additions from the 1600's to date. Whilst retaining its charm and character, it has been sensitively refurbished/restored in recent years to provide very attractive accommodation. One of the most recent additions an oak veranda on the side of the property which provides a very pleasant place to sit with a cup of tea or a glass of wine! You enter the cottage via the boot room, a great place to leave walking gear or family stuff etc. The dining room is next, a beamed room with a large table for socialising at or working from. The table is well protected so it's a good place for a spot of coloring too. French doors open onto the rear courtyard garden. There is also storage for coats under the stairs. Here you will also find a selection of board games, great fun for all, and DVDS for when the weather is inclement or when just sitting still is needed. The dining space flows into the sitting room at the front of the cottage. Comfortably furnished, it's bright and light with a large bay window overlooking the garden. There is a television with DVD player. A selection of reading books are available. The last room downstairs is the kitchen. A pretty room with double aspect windows, very much a cottage kitchen with gingham and butler's sink. All the mod cons too, including dishwasher. The fridge has a small freezer section, there isn't a separate freezer. The washing machine is in the outhouse, along with everything you need to do your wash. Don't stress about the washing up, dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid along with cloths and tea towels are provided. Tea and coffee supplies are on the side and on arrival there will be a welcome cake and a pinta. The stairs to the first floor are hidden behind a door, great fun for little ones who enjoy finding them! The stairs up to the first floor are in keeping with the age of the property and are steep, there is a handrail on one side. The handle on the door at the bottom of the stairs is too high for small people to reach. A stairgate is available and can be fitted at the top of the stairs. The bedrooms, all on the first floor, have comfortable beds to accommodate up to 5 people, with the addition of a cot (or two) if required. Cot linen is available, there is no additional charge for this. Both the master bed and the twin bed have large wardrobes, the single bedroom has an area to hang your clothes in. The smallest bedroom has a selection of toys and children's books in but equally, it's suitable for an adult too. In the bathroom, you will find a big pile of towels along with toiletries, shampoo and loo paper. The cottage has a Combi boiler so there is a plentiful supply of hot water for bath or shower. Outside, the walled garden is on three sides of the property, the main part being to the side. The grass took a bit of battering in the heat of summer, 2018 but is now recovering. Dine outside in the summer months using the table and chairs provided or sit under the veranda and while away an hour or two. Roses and poppies are pretty in the spring and summer. Allocated parking for two cars is at the front of the cottage. A Combi boiler runs the central heating and hot water. Broadband, 1mg. Minimum stay, 3 nights. And that's it. A space for a couple, friends or famiiles to enjoy. Use as a base to explore the beautiful Suffolk and Essex countryside and its sights. The cottage is comfortable, spotlessly clean and just waiting for you to arrive.
Foxearth is a small semi-rural village on the Suffolk/Essex border. The nearest available facilities are in Long Melford, a few minutes to reach by car or a 30/40 walk away across the fields. Melford is an attractive, historical village with pubs, tea rooms, individual shops and two large country houses, Melford Hall and Kentwell, to explore. There are also two supermarkets. Sudbury, the nearest town, has all the usual services you would find in any town, banks and supermarkets, but here you will also find Gainsborough's House and Museum, the birthplace and home of the English painter, Thomas Gainsborough. The Sudbury water meadows, immortalized by both Gainsborough and John Constable in their paintings, are a hidden gem. The meadows are carefully maintained and have never been ploughed to grow arable crops or treated with chemical fertiliser and, as a result, wild flowers, insects, birds and mammals abound. The River Stour crisis crosses its way across the meadows and on the first Saturday in August each year, a rowing regatta takes place on the river. Cattle continue to graze on the meadows and can be seen taking a stroll across the fields and water. Not far from Foxearth is the neighboring village of Pentlow, where you will find the Pinkuah Arms, our 'local', about 25 minutes away on foot. It is always worth checking before you set out for a quick pint, like with many country pubs, it's the survival of the fittest. Foxearth also has its very own meadows nature reserve which is accessible from the cottage on foot. The reserve is home to many dragonfly and damsel fly and several threatened bird species reside there. A short drive away you will find Lavenham, one of the best preserved medieval villages in England. And the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, a pretty market town, is not far away. There is a public swimming pool in Sudbury and a Cineworld in Bury, useful options for families to enjoy or for when the weather is not great. A day trip into Cambridge is well worth making.
  • The cottage was perfect for a family of 4. Lots of living space on the ground floor, a nice kitchen for preparing meals, and cozy bedrooms.

  • Very cosy house, 2 floors, the house has everything you can need for a week. Kitchen full equipped, bathroom with so many towels, comfy beds, games in one of the cupboards, and so many dvds and movies as well. Hosts were living next door, very nice people:) we will repeat.

  • Lorna was lovely! What a nice time we had at the cottage. We enjoyed the functional and practicality of the space, but we also appreciated the homey aesthetics, the delightful garden area and living history lesson for our twelve year old. Foxearth is a sweet Essex village with great public footpaths. Lorna advised us how to stroll across the fields to Long Melford where there has been a settlement since 8300 BC. We also visited Kentwell Hall there, which is a brilliant place for 'tweens who need to get off their digital devices for a second. We look forward to seeing you again. Thankyou. • We had such a wonderful 3 night stay at this beautiful home. The location was perfect to explore and take a break form normal hectic lives we lead. The house was a real treat and county cottage style I'd like to replicate one day! Very much recommend Lorna's place and was blessed by a very thoughtful host that made us and our toddler daughter feel truly welcome.

  • The Hayloft is a fantastic little place, Liz the host was great too. If you’re looking for a little haven just outside Cambridge, then this is the place. Quaint, peaceful, spotlessly clean and utterly unique. I enjoyed every minute of my stay

  • Liz went to a lot of trouble to make our stay fuss-free and very comfortable. The Hayloft is a lovely old building which is totally separate from the main house, with its own little garden. We'd recommend the newly-thatched Half Moon pub for a meal, not far off in Belchamp St Paul.

    Ben2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely adorable property that has been stylishly and lovingly renovated. Once a hayloft, features have been kept to give you a feel of it’s history and the architect involved in the restoration should be given an award. Everything that you may need for your comfort was provided and more - bicycles, board games and nice touches such as home made jam, Liz’s own free range eggs and a vase of lovely meadow flowers. Liz was there to welcome us and show us round when we arrived but then the place was left for us to enjoy, which we did.
