The area is beautiful and the cottage the perfect place to explore it from. Couldn’t have wished for a better New Year and Steve is the perfect host. Lots of tips on where to eat and visit in the welcome book! Highly recommend, we loved it here!

  • The cottage is exactly as described and displayed in the photographs. All facilities were working fine. The heating kept us very warm. The rooms are quaint and well equipped. The bathroom is stunning, almost palatial. The steep staircase with narrow treads could be a bit challenging for some visitors.

    Ron2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication from Steve I felt very at ease when asking questions about the property. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area

  • We had a wonderful family holiday staying in Nant Melyn cottage. Very comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything you could need. Tastefully decorated and such comfy beds! A lovely arrival gift of wine and welsh cakes which none of us had tried before and found to be delicious. Was a great base to explore South Wales, will definitely be recommending to family and friends.

The hamlet of Rhosamman is nestled between two villages, Cwmllynfell and Brynamman and sits right on the the Brecon Beacons with its breathtaking scenery. The vast open moorlands attracts travellers of all interests from walkers, cyclists, and motor vehicle enthusiast. The friendly Welsh speaking community is welcoming to visitors. The nearest shopping area is Ystradgynlais (10-15 mins) which is small yet characterful and has a number of pubs, cafes, independent shops and a bank.
  • 5* throughout. The space was instantly welcoming to be greeted with a warm wood burner and we fell in love with the accommodation and setting. It was unexpected that the fridge be stocked with milk and other bits, fresh bread on the counter and even access to some lovely local beers! Everything was beautifully clean, it was appreciated to have access to Wifi and to be provided with towels and other toiletries. I am sure that we will be back again in the near future.

  • We arrived at this sweet little cottage late at night and in atrocious weather. We were immediately made to feel welcome with lights on to greet us and the place warm and cosy. We had a relaxing stay and I have to say that the equipment provided was first class. Our hosts had thought of everything from handy emergency rain ponchos to dog bowls and spare reading glasses! The bed was comfy and the whole place prettily decorated. There was a wonderful selection of reading books, DVD's and games .. just right for rainy days. The location is great for exploring this fascinating part of Wales and although we know the area well, it never ceases to surprise us.

  • Barrie and Sheila are absolutely amazing hosts. This stay was such value for money and a truly brilliant experience. I have stayed in many Air BnBs, but none so thoughtful and attentive. Really brilliant base to explore the area. Thank you so much.

  • Barry and Sheila are wonderful and generous hosts. The carriage house was very clean, comfortable and well stocked. Check-in was easy and communication before and during the stay was good. Barrry and Sheila were on hand and approachable to answer questions, give suggestions and help out with any requests. The village and rural surrounds are gorgeous. Highly recommended experience. Much more than just a place to sleep.

Comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen, speedy responses and so much more. A truly exceptional Airbnb. If you like good coffee, Coaltown Espresso is great and just minutes drive down the road. • A lovely place to stay if you want some quiet away from the busy towns. The accommodation was really lovely, lovely hosts. In the town everyone is really nice helpful. We enjoyed really much our stay there. Definitely will be going back 😊

    Petra2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place! Enjoyed everything there is about this perfect little retreat. Kieran and his mum were so welcoming and friendly, giving you everything you could ask for & also hints and tips for things to do and places to eat. The place itself is gorgeous, homey and an absolute delight to stay in!! Words do not do this place justice!! We would be back to stay again in a heartbeat.

    Emily2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nothing bad to say about this place. From the bottle of prosecco left on the table to the hot tub that was waiting for us to jump in even though we were late (close to 10pm), every box was ticked . The storm made our stay even more adventurous as the strong winds felt like they would take the little pod flying. The mattress was extra soft and that's where my back felt neglected, but this is a personal preference and I don't expect to have it catered everywhere i go. Who enjoys sleeping on a cloud will definitely be happy here. The tub never went under 35°c event after we sat in it during the cold rain for more then 45 minutes. Don't let the bad wether scare you ( we went during a storm) and we were still able to explore the area as google maps will guide you to good parking sports to visit the waterfalls in the area. Kieran, thanks again for everything. We had a chance to meet someone on our way out as we was gone for most of the day. Lovely to meet her and good luck with this little slice of heaven!

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay. The hot tub was amazing and the hut was bigger then expected. It also warmed up very quickly and was lovely for a cosy few nights stay. Prosseco and breakfast was also appreciated! Thank you for a great stay.

    Jasmine2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful relaxing home where we chilled and relaxed all weekend. The lovely little house is in a beautiful location surrounded by fields and beautiful views! Would give it 5/5 stars and would 100% recommend! Lovely hosts with quick responses on directions and were really helpful as this was our first time using Airbnb. Hopefully we will be back :)

    Megan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The pod was amazing, equipped with everything you could need utensil wise as well as food wise with lots of breakfast bits and a bottle of prosecco! The hot tub was a lovely touch even in the middle of Storm Dennis- a tip for the cooler months the underground heating is handy to dry off your cozzies! We also didnt expect the pod to be as roomy and comfy as it was but it was very homely! The location is perfect with no noise from traffic at all but is close enough to everything such as restaurants, a tesco and the main roads to get to attractions. The area is also great for things to do, some things I would recommend are Henrhyd Falls, the Monkey Sanctuary, Dan-Yr-Ogof Caves and Alpaca My Boots. We will definitely be back again the stay was lovely, Kieran and his mum were also very helpful and friendly!

    Evie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay, hosts were very nice and helpful. Very good value for money, you get your own private space, private hot tub and bbq area too! - which is something you'd never get at a hotel for this price. The hosts couldn't do enough for you with complementary chamnpage, food and even logs for the fire pit! Can't wait to book again, thank you very much☺️

  • It is one of our best air bnb by far! My family & I loved it very much & that Beverly's cottage has almost what we needed especially in the kitchen. Made our cooking experiences at the cottage a great one! We loved the welcome basket pack! Especially the wine & the welsh cakes! Loved the cheese & butter in the refrigerator too! The entire cottage felt like a home far away from home. Cosy and fully equipped! Though it is quite a distance but as long as travelling on car, it is worth the distance for such a lovely cottage! Great value for money! Highly recommended!

  • We had a wonderful stay in the Birdbox for new year. Phil went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and has created a really cosy pod that actually seems very spacious! The bed is very comfortable, the pillows and duvet were great quality and we slept like logs for 8 hours! Pontardawe is a lovely place too and this was the perfect getaway from the city for us to spend the evening. We are 100% coming back, but for longer!

    James2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice tiny house! We really enjoyed to stay there! You have everything you need (just 2 small things you should know we did not have Wifi and the bathroom is very basic) and the place is next to a lovely church! We would come back anytime!!

The traditional Welsh cottage has a locked connecting door and has a separate private outside entrance. We welcome well behaved dogs (please let us know at the time of booking if bringing a dog).
We offer clean and comfortable accommodation comprising of a standard double bed with bedside tables and individual reading lights, seating area, TV with DVD player, log burner (logs supplied), WIFI, and a small hanging space for clothes. Slippers are provided for guests as there is a stone floor. The dining area (there is no cooker/Hob or kitchen sink) contains a small dining table and chairs, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, kettle and complimentary hospitality tray. All utensils are provided. Guests can also enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast which is provided for the first day in case you forget to bring anything with you, consisting of cereals, bread, croissants, butter, jams, and various preserves, milk, orange juice, local spring water and a fruit basket. Biscuits and other nibbles are also provided. Bathroom consists of a rain shower, sink and toilet (no bathtub). Fresh towels are provided. Guests should note that the property is NOT suitable for wheelchair access and those who have difficulty walking. Mobile phone reception is very poor, however there is wifi available. If bringing a dog, they must have their own bedding.
Llandyfan is a small quiet village that derives its name from a saint of the name 'Dyvan' who came to Wales from Rome about the year 180. Carreg Yr Ogof is near the small Church and Holy Well. The house is approx. 3 miles from Carreg Cennen Castle which sits high above the river Cennen. Other local amenities include a traditional pub that serves home cooked food about 2 miles away, fishing, golf course, cycling, walking and two equestrian centres. The whole area is designated a 'dark skies area' and has recently been listed as the best place in the UK to observe the night sky.
  • We had such a fantastic stay. Cobblers Cottage is such a lovely little place. Our dog, Woody, also loved it. The place was so clean and cosy. With lovely little touches. We will definitely be back.

  • This is a true gem of a place. John is a wonderful host and his attention to detail is just amazing. We stayed with our dog Rufus and could not believe how much effort is made by our host to make our stay comfortable. The extras like teas, coffee and breakfast assortment was unexpected but very much appreciated. My husband was so pleased to be able to have the log burner to play with. I cannot Recommend this place more highly or our hosts.

    Niki2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • One of my top Airbnb experiences so far. My partner and I had such a good stay. A luxury shepherds hut for two near the Brecon Beacons national park with delightful views over the Loughour Valley. Situated on a small working farm eight miles from Junction 49 at the western end of the M4. Enjoy the seclusion of the farm and walking opportunities in the area as well as the local attractions in East Carmarthenshire of castles, stately homes, gardens, local villages and towns. Further afield are the beaches and beauty spots of Swansea, the Gower and Pembrokeshire.
A shepherds hut that we hope will have everything that you could desire! If not ask. Studio style with integral electric shower room, toilet and hand wash basin. Main area has kitchen, Belfast sink, Induction hob, microwave, fridge and constant hot water. You have a radio but not television or Wi-fi but there is good 4G mobile coverage available. Electric heating with highly insulated walls, floors and roof should keep you comfortable whatever the weather. March 26 update: We have just started lambing from 32 ewes and this could continue until mid/end April (depends on the sheep). The shepherds hut is away from the lambing so you can sleep easily. Its always nice to see young lambs new born and then in the fields. We also have fresh eggs for purchase and there is 64acres of farm to roam over with our fields and woodland if you don't fancy driving.
You will be in the country so please be aware that at night it is dark so have a flashlight.
  • Great views, very peaceful, would recommend 👍🏻

    Elaine2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to get away, to read, write or do some walking in a farm location with stunning views, far from the madding crowd. The shepherd's hut is beautifully designed, exceptionally clean and very cosy, with all mod cons. The family are very welcoming and helpful and made our stay a real pleasure. Highly recommended.

  • Excellent communication from Andrew. The hut was spotless and had a beautiful view, quiet and super cosy. We lived staying there and will be back.

    Francine2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew & Shari were great hosts - would highly recommend staying in their beautiful shepherds hut. A unique space to stay in, with great views over the rolling hills, with plenty of small birds to spy on out of the window - including a woodpecker! Great location - not too far from Ammanford where there are lots of shops, but just far away enough that you can enjoy the quiet. About 1hr's drive from the Gower, which is where i wanted to return to - a special place for me, and very close to the Brecon beacons - lots of adventuring to be had. We had fresh eggs, which we purchased from A&S's granddaughter Caitlin, which were delicious! If you're looking for an alternative stay with some exceptional hosts, this is for you...

    Rory2019-12-01T00:00:00Z

  • A lovely house from which to explore South Wales. A lovely welcome from the hosts who couldn't be more helpful.

    Aly2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were waiting for us at the apartment to welcome us. They personally showed us the entire place which was very sweet. The apartment is lovely. It has everything you need. We were 4 adults and it was of perfect size for us. The bathroom was awesome although my parents felt it was in an odd place (far away from the bedrooms). There is a backyard and a private parking area. The accommodation is only a short drive away from Brecon Beacons. Sadly we couldn't explore the south west coast of wales (pembrokeshire area) as it was heavy rains so we just stayed in and played board games. Just a tip, if you cant get through to them on their mobile, ring the landline number as we had difficulty getting through on their mobile when we were coming down. Overall a very nice place with good hosts and I will definitely book again.

  • The property was clean and provided everything we needed for us and our 5 month old. The welsh cakes were a lovely added bonus. We were near to some lovely sandy beaches and the black mountains. The hosts were very welcoming on arrival and took us through everything we needed to know, it was a pleasure staying at Gelli House!

  • Lovely property, clean and host very friendly

    Duncan2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice welcome by George and Leah, accompained by typical welsh biuscuits prepared for us. Very comfortable house, spacious, clean and full of equipements (even the tumble dryer!). Car parking and a nice garden for eating outdoor or playng children. Recommended 101%!

    Luca2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed very warmly by the hosts who had even made us some Welsh Cakes. So nice. We only had a few days and for us it was a good location to explore the Brecon Beakons aswell as the coast. The house is well equipped, especially for families with small children. Unfortunately we are used to sleeping in dark rooms and had to improvise a bit by hanging a blanket in the window. Also there were lots of dog's hair on the carpet in the living room, which wasn't so nice for our children, who like to play on the floor. To be fair, this isn't the hosts fault though, because they especially have a poster hanging in the kitchen with instructions for dog owners (e.g. clean the carpets) so obviously a former guest hadn't done a good job on that. Other than that the house was very clean and tidy. Thank you for having us.

  • George and Leah met us (Leighton's in-laws) and showed us around and offered us local advise. There was a bag of dog treats for our dog Poppy, which was a thoughtful touch - thank you. A lovely house, ideally placed for us to visit family and enjoy the Brecon Beacons. There is a beautiful walk up the side of the railway line and passed the trotting track, which we all enjoyed on a beautiful summers day. The garden is excellent with picnic table, relaxing chairs and umbrellas. The bathroom is downstairs, which we were unaware of so worth bearing in mind if you have dogs as you'll have to disturb them for the annoying night time wees. There are several local shops which are very handy and the Mount Bar & Grill is close by, but unfortunately is not dog friendly. I have been before though and the food was plentiful and delicious. I can highly recommend this house. Thank you for letting us stay.

  • This is a lovely cottage. My wife and I only spent two days here but we were very surprised by the size of the accomodation and how homely it felt. It had everything we needed. We would love to come back to this area again when we can spend more time.

  • It was the best accommodation in our trip through Wales. It was very well equipped, wireless worked great, fireplace was available, house was very nicely decorated, the garden with river was an absolute highlight. The place did not have much to offer, but next door was a place with everything you need, plus the National Park is absolutely worth seeing. Can only recommend it!

Our cabin has a spacious bedroom with a double bed, a lounge and kitchenette with an induction hob, fridge freezer, microwave, egg boiler and tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom again is spacious with a walk-in shower. Our place is close to outdoor activities, public transport, and pubs. You’ll love our place because of the views, the location, the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the people. The cabin is good for couples, solo adventurers, business stays, and furry friends (pets).
Our cabin has a spacious bedroom with a double bed and a spacious lounge with a desk and a sofa. There is a kitchenette with an induction hob, fridge freezer, microwave, egg boiler and tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom again is spacious with a walk-in shower. The cabin has disabled facilities such as wide, step free entrances, shower chair, fixed grab bars in shower and for toilet. For potential disabled guests we do need to note that the bed is fixed and can not be moved around to create more space on the side. Around the cabin and the main house there are big gardens with fantastic views available for guests to use. At the moment we are maintaining the top level of our garden but that doesn’t effect the middle level with the garden furniture, the barbecue and the views. Our latest addition to the middle garden is a lazy spa so if you would like to enjoy the views from there, please feel free :) - Between the 1st of October and the 1st of April the hot tub is available on request as it takes quite some time to heat it. The main house is always available for guests to use the lounge and for full use of the kitchen, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Our house and the cabin are in a quiet area. Because of it’s location it feels secluded and it’s very safe to bring your dog. Only 5 minutes away is our local pub, The Raven, which serves great food. We are situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, overlooking the Black Mountains, so there are many great walks, bike possibilities and sightseeing places.
  • A perfect peaceful place, the place was beautiful and spotless, so relaxing. Simon & Neeltje were absolutely amazing, we asked regarding local, walks, they came back with, where they start finish, how long they take etc. Definitely a 10 out of 10. Only bad thing is we had to leave there, but we will definitely be back xxx

    Hayley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful spot to explore the Brecon Beacons from. A nearby castle, waterfall country, Pen Y Fan, or the showcases. Oh, and you can’t beat access to the local pubs. (The Raven does homemade cheesecake!) Did I mention the hot tub? Finally, big kudos to Simon & Neeltje for greeting us on arrival, and seeing us off.

A lovingly converted self-contained farmhouse annexe within Brecon Beacons National Park, this little mountainside retreat is the perfect base for hill walkers, cyclists, nature enthusiasts and outdoor explorers - or anyone seeking peace and beautiful views while being situated just 20 minutes’ drive from the M4.
Bumpers Farm was originally built in 1758. In former times it was used as a drovers’ inn and on older documents is listed as Bumpers Inn. Nowadays it is maintained as a hobby farm, with pet sheep, free range chickens, dogs and ponies. It is positioned right on the Black Mountain, with miles of walks or cycle routes accessed directly from the property. The listed annex is a converted stable, and as such the internal living space is limited, including areas of restricted headroom. The bedroom is a mezzanine floor with velux window set into the sloping ceiling. The layout downstairs is open plan, with staircase, seating area and small kitchenette sharing the space. The bathroom consists of toilet, hand basin and wetroom shower. Please note there is no bathtub. Original stonework has been left exposed where possible to maintain the character of this beautiful centuries-old stable building.
The view from the Stable is spectacular, particularly from the bedroom with an unobstructed view of Carreg Cennen castle – the partially ruined medieval fortress which dominates the local landscape from its hilltop position. It is well worth the steep hike up to the castle during your stay with us. You’re recommended to take a torch with you to explore the tunnel and the damp limestone cave beneath the castle, then follow up with a bowl of cawl or a plate of bara brith from the teashop next to the car park. Llandyfan itself is a quiet village made up mostly of scattered individual properties, with a horse riding centre, golf course and friendly pub within its borders. It is situated in between the towns of Ammanford and picturesque Llandeilo, with its renowned independent shops and restaurants, and is en route for those continuing their travels towards Pembrokeshire. The Brecon Beacons need no introduction here. Bumpers Stable is situated within 2 miles of the Beacons Way (see Day 7 of the recommended 8 day Beacons Way trek). This part of the journey is described as requiring good navigational skills as the route is is mostly along unmarked, open moorland, giving the feeling of being out in the wilds. Here you will pass two impressive Bronze Age cairns at the summit of Garreg Las. You will be unlucky not to spot the iconic Red Kite along with other birds of prey. Wheatears breed here in the summer – we have also spotted snipe, stonechats, skylarks, linnets and meadow pipits to name just a few. The Brecon Beacons is also remarkable as only the fifth destination in the world to be granted international dark sky reserve status.
  • The Stable is set in a beautiful part of the Brecon Beacons, and is the perfect escape to the Welsh countryside. The cottage is very comfortable with great kitchen facilities, and Kate was the perfect host - really helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed some stunning walks nearby, including the hike to Carreg Cennen Castle which we would definitely recommend. Thanks Kate and family (plus animals) for a lovely stay!

    Debbie2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay, the accommodation is well thought out and well presented. Everything was designed to make for a comfortable stay. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare and cook meals. There was a welcome package of wine, eggs, jam, milk, cereal plus the kitchen had olive oil for cooking. Right on the edge of the Brecons, the location is excellent for exploring the west of the Brecons. It’s a short drive to shops and supermarkets. When I saw the hosts they were friendly and welcoming. I would love to stay here again.

    Rachel2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We could not recommend Bumpers Stable more highly - it was amazing - unbelievable value for money. It is the most lovely little getaway and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The space is so cute, very tastefully done and everything you could wish for a break in the Welsh countryside - including chickens and a duck to welcome you as you drive in. It was so quiet and peaceful and the surroundings are beautiful. Kate and her husband were friendly and helpful, always quick to respond to messages. When the water went off, Kate came to let us know before we even realised, provided bottles of fresh water and got her husband to come back from work to change the water supply in the pouring rain - if that’s not dedicated hosting, I don’t know what is! When we arrived, the stable was just as it is in the photographs with the lovely addition of a care package including a bottle of wine, tea and coffee, Welsh tea cakes (delicious!) and some jams - such a lovely, welcoming touch. We spent our time doing outdoor activities nearby (walks, runs, SUP, climbing) and coming home to this lovely comfortable cottage was perfect. We will definitely be recommending Bumpers to friends and will be back ourselves too, I’m sure!

    Ruth2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay, couldn't ask for more. We had a lovely welcome package (eggs, wine, welshcakes, milk and breakfast cereal), and the cottage was spacious and clean with a great view of the countryside and Carreg castle. Kate was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed.

    Pippa2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • A bolt hole in the beautiful Welsh countryside. Perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle. Super hosts. Thank you for a brilliant weekend.

    Hannah2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kate and Warwick are fabulous hosts - frequent communication beforehand, detailed directions for how to get there, and a care package on arrival with milk, eggs, mini eggs (we stayed over Easter) and even mini packets of cereal! We had everything we could have wanted, the house was comfortable, clean and spacious, and Bumpers Farm is just the most relaxing, nature-filled place to be. We loved the dogs (especially Becky, what a sweetheart) and the chickens and the horses. Though it seems a little out of the way, you can get to a supermarket in 10 mins by car, and Carreg Cennen Castle (where there are spectacular walks) is also only 15 minutes away. We can’t recommend Bumpers Stable highly enough, it was brilliant! We will definitely be back.

    Madeleine2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

Swansea Bay Tourism Awards 2017. Best Self Catering Accommodation. This luxurious, modern holiday cottage is upside down - bedrooms downstairs, an open plan kitchen and lounge area upstairs. Designed by award winning Rio Architects to be contemporary and minimalist whilst retaining period features, this cottage was once used for storing carts on an old country estate. It is warm and cosy thanks to a renewable biomass heating system, downstairs underfloor heating and best of all - sheep's wool insulation! The king-sized master bedroom is spacious, with modern furniture complemented by a historic section of exposed blue pennant sandstone wall. Upstairs is open plan. A large fully fitted kitchen with high quality appliances and seating for six leads into a large living area with sofas and comfortable seating, woodland views and a 4K HDTV with Freesat. There is excellent free WiFi internet throughout the cottage. A stunning contemporary wet room includes a stand alone bath tub with waterfall tap, walk-in rainforest shower and generously sized fluffy white towels The ground floor is completed by two twin/double bedrooms.
This cottage offers the guest the highly sought after combination of being in the perfect location for accessing South Wales's top attractions whilst also serving as a peaceful hideaway, surrounded by style and luxury, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The cottage is detached and in a beautiful and secluded natural setting despite being just over a mile from the town of Pontardawe where there is a major 24 hour supermarket, not to mention some good pubs and restaurants.
Without question, Cilybebyll is a jewel of South Wales - it is in a perfect location to enjoy all the must - see highlights such as the Gower beaches, Brecon Beacons mountains, Waterfall country, the city of Swansea, National Showcaves, Botanic Gardens, Carreg Cennen Castle and yet is utterly unspoilt - a peaceful rural haven that has remain unchanged for centuries.
  • The cottage is a really well thought out space. The living room seated our group of four adults well, with lots of space. Parking for three or more cars as needed and enough space in the kitchen and bedrooms. All of the beds were extremely comfortable, and the single beds were wide. The individual heat thermostats for the bedrooms are an excellent idea, so everyone had more control for their personal requirements. Good size walk-in shower and a separate toilet upstairs as well. Location is isolated, which worked perfectly for our group; local pubs were a short drive away.

    Bethan2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is modern and very well equipped (particularly the kitchen) and perfect for a holiday in South Wales. Everything we needed was provided. The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of space for a large family like ours (we were 6). The area is secluded and quiet. There was simply no noise of any kind to disturb us. There is a large supermarket close by which is very convenient.

  • Jill gave us a warm welcome. The house is spacious and clean and with the three large bedrooms would suit a larger group than ours. We were 3 adults and two children. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a great utility room for hanging coats or damp clothing. Lovely free range eggs and home made jam were the icing on the cake.

  • Super "tardis" like house. Very comfortable, super clean and nice and warm. Very well equipped kitchen (with welcoming stuff from Jill) big dining room with map of the local area an lots of pamphlets on what to do in the area, very comfy lounge (3 double recliner settees) shower room, bathroom and 3 large bedrooms (firm but comfy beds). Didn't meet Jill (she had a family event) but communication great. Good value for money. Would most certainly recommend Jill's place to anyone.

  • Adventures Abode was perfect for the two of us. It was very clean, cosy and welcoming . A brilliant base to explore the beautiful Brecon Beacons and to relax at the end of four weeks of travel. Shona was a very responsive host. What you see is what you get- a lovely apartment in a renovated barn in the middle of some of the most picturesque landscapes the UK has to offer.

  • What a lovely, cosy gem of a place in the middle of God’s country, right on the slopes of the Black Mountain. Perfect for a secluded getaway with lots of walking and breathtaking scenery to hand. Lance and Shona are perfect hosts and everything was exactly as described and expected.

    Paul2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and efficient use of space. Lovely and warm despite the weather during our visit! Good directions from Shona - our sat nav wanted us to drive across the fields... As other reviews, take your supplies with you. Neighbours had organised Tesco deliveries to see them through their stays which seemed a really good idea - one for next time. Setting is wonderful, just a few metres to walking on the mountainside. Also within easy driving distance to a wealth of castles, waterfalls, walks etc..

It boasts two modern shopping centres with all of the best of the high street at St Catherine’s Walk and Merlin’s Walk. It boasts two modern shopping centres with all of the best of the high street at St Catherine’s Walk and Merlin’s Walk. Carmarthen is the oldest continually occupied town in Wales. The free County museum is packed with plenty more treasures including mammoth bones, Roman gold and Egyptian artefacts. Carmarthenshire has some some of the most stunning coastline, a county that also borders Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Carmarthen Bay Coast Path is 74 miles (118 km) long of great diversity, combining golden sandy beaches, historic ports and tranquil estuaries. The night sky is one of the joys of a winter in Wales. While much of the UK and Europe is blighted by light pollution, in Wales there are hundreds of places to experience our natural wonders under dark skies. Some of them are obvious; Wales now has a network of International Dark Sky Reserves and Dark Sky Parks that astronomers have singled out as world-beating places to go stargazing. The Brecon Beacons National Park became an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2012. This accreditation is testament to the quality of the region's dark skies. A number of Dark Sky Discovery Sites make stargazing readily accessible.

The Barn Guest House, which sits at the end of a long private track, is a beautifully converted stone barn, in the heart of the National Park. Inside, the Barn has been designed for relaxation; it is a warm and welcoming space with a well-equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room, comfortable bedrooms and modern bathrooms. Outside, there is a pretty garden, with a BBQ, outdoor games, views to Llyn y Fan Fach and beyond, plus 9 acres of wild grassland. Inside, there are toys and board games.
We are in the west of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which is a Geopark and a 'Night Sky Designated Area'. Guests have a wonderful view of the night sky from the garden - providing it's a clear night! We manage the land here sustainably, and have two wild ponies who help us achieve this. We therefore have many wild flowers, moths and butterflies. There is immediate access from the property to the Black Mountain and the National Park. The Barn Guest House is ideal for people wanting to escape emails and phones - though if you need to catch up, you are welcome to use the wifi in our nearby cottage. There are board games to play, streams to paddle in, red kites to watch and amazing views. A selection of delicious frozen ready meals are available to purchase.
It's very quiet here - great for walking and very popular with cyclists, as we're just 1 mile off the route of some serious cycling! There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby (Aberglasney Gardens; Garn Coch; National Botanic Gardens; Carreg Cennen Castle) and the nearest town, Llandeilo, is very pretty, with many independent shops. You'll hear Welsh spoken, but everyone also speaks English. The people here are very friendly and welcoming.
  • I couldn’t fault anything about this space. We wanted somewhere super remote, relaxing and beautiful. It ticked every box. Especially lovely was the box of eggs dropped off in the morning as we’d asked where we could get them locally. We were also an hour and a half late for check in as we got swept away in the area and then took a wrong turn but were met with a smile and super hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

  • Warm and cosy retreat in beautiful and quiet surroundings. Great for anyone in need of a rest.

    Val2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Sylvia was nothing short of fantastic. The location is absolutely breathtaking and provides a ton of opportunity for walks and hikes. There are sheep everywhere and they are absolutely adorable and add a gentle touch to the amazing countryside. The cottage itself is a perfect size and beautifully decorated. The amenities are very high quality--I especially enjoyed soaking in the tub in the master bathroom after a long day of walking/hiking. Sylvia was extremely friendly and helpful but gave us our space and privacy. I would highly recommend staying with her to anyone wanting to enjoy the beautiful South Wales countryside. We were very sad to leave!

    Paige2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a perfect stay in a more than wonderful place. Perfect for relaxation and to really slow down. The guest house is super equipped, clean and lovingly decorated and we did not miss anything. The photos are not nearly the location, the garden and the view again. Sylvia is a perfect hostess. Restrained but always approachable for a tip or questions, children and dog are also welcome. And the Welcome Welshcakes are awesome. In the area there is much to discover and the coast can be easily reached in 1.5 hours and there are many beautiful bays that are not crowded. Anyway you can in Wales the other tourimassen very well. We were including dog and 2 children (7 & 11 years) here and would recommend it to anyone outside the mass tourism relaxation, nature, old castles and castles and wonderful views still and nöcher looking for.

    Carina2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Barn was a really memorable experience. It is a lovely stylish space and a great place to relax after exploring the local area. If you enjoy wildlife-watching, you won't be disappointed - we saw bats, butterflies and all sorts of birds nearby. The views are spectacular and the night-sky is something to behold! Sylvia was a great host and was so amenable throughout our stay. If you want to go somewhere and switch off from the rat race, this is the place!

    Cerys2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough stars to rate Sylvia’s amazing place and not even close to enough to rate Sylvia as a host. It is the most amazing place we all have been to and I was almost tempted not to recommend it so less people would know about it 😉 But seriously... if you’re looking for a real time out, complete relaxation and an amazing house and landscape you’ll love this place.

    Lukas2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere quiet and out the way and if you like sparkling clean and well thought out accommodation. We visited for 2 nights with a 9 month old and 2 and half year old and it was as relaxing as it can be with young kids!

Bwthyn Y Saer lies in the ancient Glamorgan parish of Cilybebyll, which lies on the eastern side of the picturesque Swansea Valley, some nine miles to the north-east of Swansea city. There are few places left like Cilybebyll. Rural and unspoilt, the peaceful hamlet consists of a parish church and no more than 25 residences. The cottage stand in a slight hollow about half a mile from the parish church and originally served as outbuildings on the Plas Cilybebyll estate. Bwthyn Y Saer makes for an ideal base to visit the Brecon Beacons National Park or the Gower Peninsula. The region is well blessed with amenities and the road network excellent. These are some of the places local to the cottage – Cilybebyll is a small hamlet (church/farms) with a population of around 100. It is less than a mile away along a winding country road. Rhos is a small village (post office, pub, convenience store, fish and chips) with a population of around 2,500. It is 1 mile away along a country road. Pontardawe is a small town (24 hour supermarket, leisure centre, theatre, cinema, pubs, doctor, restaurants) with a population of around 6,000. It is less than 2 miles downhill from the farm, on the valley floor. Neath is a large market town, 5 miles away, with a population of 60,000. It has a pedestrianised shopping centre, a traditional covered market and a mainline train station. Swansea is a major city with a population of 225,000. It has a beautiful seaside setting and things like a national museum, a university, great ice-cream parlours and a Premier League football team! Our cottages are located in the valley, 10 miles north of the city. The region is well connected with other parts of the UK and convenient to lots of major tourist attractions. This ease of access, whether travelling from London and the South East of England (via the M4) or the Midlands and the North (via the Heads of the Valley road, M50, M5 and M6), makes Swansea Valley Holiday Cottages an ideal choice for a self catering family or group holiday in South Wales.
