Places to stay in Bryansford
Tollymore Gate Lodge, built in 1802 is tucked inside the Bryansford Gate of Tollymore Forest Park. Recently fully refurbished with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable parlour complete with wood burning stove, two spacious bedrooms with king size beds and open fires. Tollymore, previously the home of the Roden Family, lies amongst the northern foothills of the magnificent Mourne Mountains, long recognised as Northern Ireland’s best hillwalking destination.
The gate lodge has a sheltered garden with a sunny aspect which looks out onto the Mournes. Step out through the garden gate into more than 1,500 acres of magnificent parkland ideal for walkers of every ability. Alternatively, the park can be your starting point for exploring the Mournes. The Forest Park is one of the principle locations for the Game of Thrones HBO/SKY drama and GOT tour buses visit Tollymore daily. In strolling quietly through the wilder parts of the park you can encounter fallow deer, red squirrels, pine martens, magnificent red kites and birds of prey soaring overhead. Belfast author, CS Lewis, a frequent visitor to the park was so taken by its magic that he used it as a model for his “through the wardrobe” fantasy land of Narnia. His seven book collection, The Chronicles of Narnia has to date sold more than 100 million copies in 47 languages.
Bryansford is small quiet village 3miles/5km from the town of Newcastle where in the words of Percy Ffrench 'the Mountains of Mourne sweep to the sea'. Newcastle is home to the world renowned Royal County Down Golf Course with it's two outstanding links courses. The Championship Course will be hosting the 116th Women's Amateur Championship from 11-15 June 2019 and in July competitors in The Open scheduled to take place Royal Portrush Golf Club will practice at RCD prior to the competition in Portrush. Murlough Nature Reserve with its magnificent walks is 5 miles away. Stroll along the beach and return through the reserve to enjoy the flora, fauna and magnificent views of Slieve Donard and the Mourne Mountains. Ponies, cattle and rabbits can be seen grazing and if you're lucky you will hear (and possibly see) a cuckoo. Tollymore National Outdoor Centre is 1 mile from the gate lodge or a 15 min stroll through the park. Here you can enjoy the Hot Rock Climbing Wall or enrol in Mountaineering, Rock Climbing or Canoeing Courses. Outdoors Activity Training Courses are also available. Castlwellan Forest Park is 5 miles away. It is home to the world renowned Annesley Garden Arboretum and its 43( at the most recent count) Champion Trees including Northern Ireland's Tree of the Year 2018, the stunning multi stemmed Giant Redwood with it's amazing 19 trunks, a fabulous place for a walk anytime of year where you will always find something of interest to see. If you're lucky you will spot a red squirrel or two. Rumour has it there are quite a few reds in the Annesley Garden at present. Seaforde's Tropical Butterfly House is also well worth a visit. These are just samples of some of the fantastic things to do in our locality and what make it unique.
  • Fantastic host, great cottage and lots of lovely touches.

  • The most magical stay and perfect location to settle after a lovely walk in the woods. Angelas’ personal touches were some of the most thoughtful additions we’ve come across yet in an air b&b, we cannot wait to return to this little gem and our only regret was not staying longer.

    Danielle2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • what a lovely cottage...had yhe best time and diff go back.thanks

  • Loved staying in this unique little pink gate lodge, amazing being able to have the dog with me. Really warm welcome. With a super sweet welcome basket, filled with very generous bits. Loved by all, extremely thoughtful. Fuel for the fire also was left to use which was greatly appreciated. The location is just wonderful, especially with it's own private gate into the forest itself. Super cozy with everything you need for a relaxing gate away. Thank you Angela for sharing your beautiful little pink gate lodge for us all to enjoy x

  • A cosy welcoming home in beautiful surroundings. Welcome treats of home made bread, home made granola & delicious family honey made a great stay even more fantastic. Highly recommend a stay here.

  • This is our family’s second time at the cottage and it never disappoints.... all the finishing touches are just lovely. We love it as the cottage seems worlds away from the everyday hustle.... light the fire.. grab a board game and let the memories happen. Can’t wait to get back down when the weather is good to enjoy the cottage garden..

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Pauline. The house is perfect for four people. It is so cozy there and totally clean, bright and great furnishings. We really felt very comfortable. The direct view of the Morne Mountains is really fantastic ... You have everything you need there :) We would love to come back!

    Sabrina2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Has an outdoor space where your dog is confined and safe. Pauline and Tony are very welcoming.

    Niall2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline was a great host, very helpful and friendly. The accommodation was idea for us, plenty of space, clean and comfortable. We hope to visit again soon.

    Ryan2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline’s place has stunning views that seem to change every time you look. It’s beautiful. The accommodation perfectly suited our small family and Pauline made sure our baby had a travel cot to sleep in. We were blown away by the amount of provisions we found on arrival - not just eggs, bread, milk and coffee but all the shampoos, deodorants, hair gels and shower cream you could need. The beds were really comfortable. As for location- as well as having the Mourne Mountains on your back garden, the beautiful Murlough Beach and stunning Silent Valley are short drives away. We will definitely be back.

    Paddy2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Smashing wee place to relax after being out with dogs all day. Pauline was so friendly and helpful. Thank you

We offer a cosy and comfortable hideaway just yards from the beautiful Tollymore Forest Park (a Game of Thrones filming location!) Walk the way marked forest trails or hike up to the Mountains of Mourne - the inspiration for C. S. Lewis’ magical world of Narnia! We have put a lot of love into our home from home where we hope you will put your feet up after a day of hiking, biking, golf, canoeing or any of the other wonderful activities this ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ has to offer.
Our place is a two storey end terrace property located in a quiet and peaceful courtyard development in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, with the first floor providing a sneak peak view of the Mournes. Bryansford is a small, quiet village in County Down at the northern side of Tollymore Forest Park. It is a 5 minute drive from both Castlewellan and the seaside town of Newcastle. One of the best things about the property is that it is located about a 30 second walk from Bryansford Gate, a gothic style structure offering access to Tollymore Forest Park and the Mourne Mountains. The views walking into the Forest Park are something else! Our property also provides easy access to bars, restaurants, art galleries, museums, beaches and other points of interest such as Tollymore National Outdoor Centre, the Trassey Track leading to Hares Gap in the Mourne Mountains (5minute drive), Royal County Down Golf Course (also a 5minute drive), Murlough Nature Reserve, Mourne Archery Centre, Mourne Seafood Cookery School, Cocos Adventure Playground, Seaford Gardens and Butterfly House, Silent Valley Reservoir, Spelga Dam, Kilbroney Park (widely regarded as one of the most exciting mountain bike destinations in Europe), the Scenic Carlingford Ferry and Cooley Peninsula .…. the list goes on! Newcastle is also a popular choice for wedding venues and our property is an ideal base for guests. We are also a 50 minute drive from Belfast and 1 hour 45 minute drive from Dublin.

  • A great place stay. Everything was spotlessly clean and such a well appointed and stylish house. Literally couldn’t get a better location for access to Tollymore and on into the Mournes. 5 minutes to the centre of Newcastle for cafes/bars/restaurants/... Will definitely be back in the future :)

  • This is a splendid house with a real "homely" feel. Everything about the property, facilities and hospitality could not be faulted - it is quality. The added bonus is obviously having Tollymore Forest and the Mournes right on the doorstep - makes for a very easy and relaxing "get-away". Definitely a real gem!

    Kathleen2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • I was met by Victoria who is lovely and was very responsive in the lead up to my arrival. The property was immaculately clean with all the amenities one would want - kitchen, washing machine, good sized bedrooms and a a lovely open fire (which Victoria had going when I arrived). If you’d rather not mess about with lighting the fire, the heating in the house was great. A very warm and cosy space. The house is also very well located - only a few minutes walk from the town, including some lovely bars and restaurants, and of course, some beautiful walks. Highly recommend.

  • A lovely, colorful room in a artistic house! Everything was cozy, and having a microwave and water kettle was a help. A note to future travelers, just so you don’t make the mistake I made: there’s another home with the exact same address in Newcastle. Double check your satnav/GPS to make sure you’re heading to Castlewellan and not Newcastle.

Cara Cottage is located on the outskirts of the village of Kilcoo in the heart of Mourne. In an idyllic quiet setting, there are breath-taking views and easy access to walking and biking trails nearby. A cosy one-bedroom detached cottage, sleeping 2 adults + 2 children or 4 adults, this is a perfect rural retreat for relaxation or a base to explore everything the local area has to offer. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2019/oct/07/mourne-mountains-northern-ireland-adventure-holiday-hiking-k
We’re ideally located for access to the many outdoor activities the Mournes have to offer. Within ten minutes of the cottage you’ll find Game of Thrones filming location Tollymore Forest, the buzzing seaside town of Newcastle, home of Royal County Down Golf Course and Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Ulster. Cara Cottage has a modern open plan kitchen, dining and living space. The fully equipped kitchen includes lots of storage and surface space, a fridge, oven/hob, microwave, toaster, and kettle. The dining table seats 4, and in the living room along with TV/DVD the multi-fuel stove is ideal for sitting by the fire in the evening. So you don’t have to worry, fuel for the fire is provided for you- enjoy! The living room has a sofa bed which would suit 2 adults/children, and the bedroom has a double bed. A travel cot is available if needed, as well as a high chair/booster seat. The bathroom has a full suite, including bath and separate electric shower and a hairdryer is provided. For laundry, there’s a utility space with storage, access to a clothes horse or outside line for drying and an iron and ironing board. Cara Cottage is situated to the side/rear of our family home, so there’s ample parking at the front, and lots of space on the lawn to the side for a picnic on the grass or for children to safely play outside. The easiest way to get around is by car, but buses run through Kilcoo village connecting us with Newry City, Castlewellan, Newcastle and onwards to Belfast. Kilcoo village is 5 minutes walk from Cara Cottage and has a mini supermarket, a food take-away, petrol station, and church. There are two local pubs which both serve food. Nearby Castlewellan Castle, Lake, Forest Park, Arboretum and bike trail are definitely worth a visit, and don’t miss the Peace Maze, one of the world's largest permanent hedge mazes. If you’re planning on exploring further afield, Downpatrick (burial place of Saint Patrick) is 20 minutes drive, Newry City is 25 minutes away, and Dublin is an hour down the motorway from there. Heading North, Belfast is 50 minutes by car from Cara Cottage. Closer to home, if you’re discovering or revisiting the Mourne Mountains, we personally recommend the stunning Brandy Pad, Hares Gap and Trassey Track. Venture further and take in Spelga Dam and neighbouring Hilltown, only 10 minutes drive from Kilcoo. Onwards towards the beautiful coastal town of Rostrevor and Kilbroney Forest Park for more stunning scenery. We would suggest following the coast road, taking in Greencastle’s 13th Century Norman Castle, Cranfield’s beautiful sandy beach and Kilkeel Harbour. Continue along the coast through Ballymartin, Annalong and back to Newcastle for a bite to eat before heading home to Cara Cottage. There are plenty of fantastic food options for you, such as Kilcoo’s own Greenan’s Steakhouse, as well as Maginns Bar & Restaurant in Castlewellan, and Villa Vinci, Vanilla, Great Jones’, and Brunel’s in Newcastle. Be sure to sample some famous Mourne seafood during your stay in Dundrum’s Mourne Seafood Bar too.
This is a rural location and a close knit community, with lots to do in the surrounding area. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2019/oct/07/mourne-mountains-northern-ireland-adventure-holiday-hiking-kayaking-cycling?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_WhatsApp

  • This was the perfect place to stay for a quiet weekend away. The cottage is so cosy and quaint and my kids loved being next door to the sheep :) Such a peaceful place with only the sound of bleating when you open the door. The hosts were so warm and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and having the fire lit for us too :) The cottage had everything we needed inside. We didn’t want to leave!

  • Absolutely spotless, toasty warm and plenty of space for a couple or small family. The views are truly unbelievable, views are constantly changing due to the clouds, and the loudest thing around the area is the occasional passing tractor bringing bales of hay to the fields. Blissful! This was our second visit to Cara Cottage which says it all, we had actually forgotten just how fresh the air is there! My partner was genuinely upset to be leaving. Thank you so much Mary, we will definitely be back as soon as possible :)

One of the only traditional Cottages in the area, built by the owner's family in the early 1800s. Ivy Cottage is set at the foot of the beautiful Mourne Mountains, overlooking the harbour in Newcastle. The cottage is fully equipped for a relaxing stay, welcoming guests including families and people with pets. Ivy cottage provides comfortable accommodation for at least four, with two double bedrooms and the optional use of a folding bed in the living room.
  • Lovely, peaceful location with great views.

    Lucy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay, from the little personal touches like welcome pack and flowers were much appreciated to having everything catered for including dvd, games etc. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves walking, there are numerous scenic walks nearby like the granite trail which runs behind the property. The sea views are beautiful and it’s set in a lovely quiet neighbourhood. There is a path a short distance from the house to a couple of local pubs with great craic and local musicians. If you are looking for a warm and welcoming home from home place to stay I would highly recommend Ivy Cottage.

  • Great little cottage walking distance to harbour bar for food. Lovely views. Home from home. Would recommend especially in summer.

  • We had a lovely short stay at Christine’s place and definitely intend to return! Cottage was love, spacious and really well equipped with plenty of toys to amuse a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Christine made sure that we had everything we needed for our stay!

    Naomi2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The place is spacious. There is a couch and tv in kitchen. All the things you would need in a home we’re available. Games and toys for kids. The outside space was great because the dogs were fenced in and safe. The bedrooms were perfect and nicely decorated. Another couch and two big cozy chairs in living room. The house was nice and warm.

    Kari2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, traditional cottage overlooking the bay. Perfect for a romantic weekend, particularly as it was so stormy when we visited. 5 minute walk to two very nice pubs also.

  • Christine's cottage was a charming stay, with a bit of natural beauty surrounding the area! The place has everything one could ask for and then some. Not to mention the people of Newcastle were some of the nicest I had met on my journey through Ireland and Northern Ireland (which is saying something). A place I would definitely like to make arrangements for in the future when I'm back in this part of the world!

This is our study so it has built in desk furniture and of course that thing we all have and never use - a sad lonely cross trainer in the corner! The room has a very comfortable silent night double bed. The private bathroom is down the hall and has a bath. There is a shower attachment on the tap but it isn't wall mounted for standing showering.
  • Gayle is very friendly and helpful guest. Our room and bathroom was very clean and we felt comfortable. I recommend this place!

  • Gayle and Christian were helpful (even though we were running late on check in and were holding them up from their dinner plans, Gayle helped us with restaurant suggestions and even called ahead to make a booking) and friendly. The bed was comfortable (very important for me!) and the bathroom was clean and spacious.

    Bryonie2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed a week at Gayle's place. The view from the ensuite is stunning. Gayle and her family are really nice people, easy to talk to, and they are helpful and know the area very well. The bed is really comfy and it's really really clean. I was struggling for a place to stay before finding a long term accommodation (for my internship) and I was very welcomed to stay and book a few other nights there. Dundrum is a quiet village, and it's easy to get to Newcastle and visit the Mournes. I would definitely stay at Gayle's place again, it felt like home and enlighted my trip! Thank you very much :)

Location, Location, Location..whether you are looking for a family holiday, romantic break, hiking or a golf trip, Kate's Cottage is in a prime location for all visitors to Newcastle. Our 1930's cottage is located within 500 yards of Royal County Down Golf Course, Slieve Donard Hotel, seafront promenade, beach & main street. The house offers two reception rooms (one with double sofa bed), three bedrooms, spacious kitchen/diner & a newly landscaped rear garden with views of the Mourne Mountains.
Master bedroom can be laid out as a twin room instead of Super King room on request. Travel cot available on request.
  • A well maintained property in a tremendous location, so close to the town - Denise's responses to questions was very quick and we could not have been happier with our choice - the promenade is great for a stroll any time of day - definately recommend this property for those wishing to explore the Mountains of Mourne and surrounding area. Vanilla is a great tapas restaurant - recommend booking as only open on Thursday - Sunday - The Anchor Bar and the Harbour Bar at the top end of town served the best variety of beers.

    Russell2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little house, it's all about location with this property as beach and all local shops etc are a stones throw away.

    Amanda2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic host. Real home from home. Every facility and amenity you could think of and more within the cottage. Fantastically located, really near all things Newcastle. Had a great break and Kate’s Cottage was the perfect home from home base.

    Frank2018-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We have just come back from a great stay in Newcastle, we were a family of 4 adults and 2 children (aged 2 & 5). The house is perfect for families and anyone who needs an easy space to holiday in, having 2 reception rooms meant the adults could get away from the kids when needed. The garden was lovely (& safe) and the kids enjoyed playing in it and we sat out a few times. Location wise it could not have been better. 2 mins to the beach and then all the local shops a 5 min walk away, meaning we could just pop out and pick things up. The area is beautiful, and you can take advantage of all the local sights. Silent Valley, Murlough bay and Castle Ward being particular highlights. Mount Panther was also a hit with the kids. Denise was a very thoughtful host leaving us milk and food for breakfast when we arrived. The communication was excellent and we hope to stay again next year.

    Kaz2018-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Really delighted with our stay, we all loved it. Denise is a very kind and thoughtful host.

    Kathy2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in this house and would thoroughly recommend. Main pros are location (5mins into town but very quiet street, well located for Lidl shop 2 mins away), great host (very quick response, loan of high chair and kindly allowed early check in) and spacious property, particularly the kitchen which is superbly equipped for self catering. The decor in the house is quite diverse - some very modern touches alongside some older furniture and furnishings - and the bathroom, while clean and functional, was small (no bath but a very nice powerful shower). Overall it was very homely and served as a great base to explore the area. We were sorry to leave.

    Rachel2018-06-23T00:00:00Z

    Luke2018-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean bungalow, more spacious than expected, really well-located for the beach, promenade and amenities of Newcastle, and was also quiet. Very well-equipped for cooking meals (Lidl was practically next door for buying groceries!) and cleaning up. Beds were comfy. Denise provided useful info and was quick to respond. Highly recommended.

Lovely, quiet, mature neighbourhood with a park 200m away. Less than 10 minutes walk from town centre/ beach
  • Wonderful place, very close to the beach and view on the mountains.

    Fabienne2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great little treasure of a bungalow. The host has put so much effort into making this place a home from home, with all of their extra touches. The beds are very cosy. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The house heats up very quickly with the heating and it retains the heat throughout the day. The yard is secure and great for doggos to do their zoomies. It is very close to the town centre and the local park. But the view out the front window is the best part. We stayed while there was snow on the Mournes. And during storm Dennis. It was so lovely. We are definitely coming back.

    Kerrie2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don’t do justice to the place. It is fantastic space with a stunning view of the mountains and few minutes walk to the sea shore and pier. The host Deborah had left a lot of thoughtful and useful information to explore the nearby places which came in handy when we went out. Our dog Max made himself at home with the secure garden and relaxed by the electric fire place in the evening. Can’t recommend the place and the host enough, such great hospitality.

Donard Park is 5 minute walk, Newcastle beach and outdoor baths and seaweed baths are 5 min walk. Lovely town, Micheal met us on arrival, he brought us coffee and ice cream from his local business beside the apartment. He had quick chat and left us to it for the weekend. He arrived back on Sunday morning and told us there was no rush to leave. We'll be back for a adventure weekend as soon as the country gets back to normal after Covid 19. Thanks Michael,we'll see you again.

  • Honestly one of the most beautiful places I've been, had everything we needed and a lot more, good location, great communication, had a lovely time in front of the fire and watching Netflix hahahaha

    Dylan2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect idyllic cabin! Loved the extra touches, cereals & milk available for breakfast if you need them. We had a lovely couple of nights hauled up here binging on Netflix from the bath with the log fire roaring. Storm Ciara was barely noticed! Would def come back.

  • Great place and location! Would definitely recommend staying here you won't be disappointed

  • Amazing little space a stones throw away from the front of Newcastle. Such a cosy little hidden gem that we did not want to leave. Hosts were private but communicated very efficiently, would highly recommend this hidden treasure!

  • Änne‘s Place is a Great location near the beach. It is private and has amenities with breakfast and snacks available during your stay. I highly recommend this area and place to stay. Perfect for a couple. Nice lighting too with view of the back garden. Anne is very accommodating and friendly.

    Jennifer2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Anne's was wonderful! For starters, previous conversation was prompt and helpful. Upon arrival, She came out in the rain to greet us. The room was as described and we were well catered for the entire time. We'd visit again :-)

    Jennifer2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anne kindly picked us up at the bus station and helped make our stay in Newcastle totally enjoyable. She was friendly and helpful with local information and our room was cozy with a beautiful view to the grand backyard. She provided lots of cold options and toast for breakfast with yummy coffee and tea. The perfect host!

  • Had such a lovely time at Anne's place, and Anne herself is great! Fast response, and she even picked me up from the bus station which was lovely. The house is 10 minutes walk from city center, and 5 minutes away from the bottom of Slieve Donard, so a great location. The room is very clean, with all the B&B amenities you could hope for - toiletries, cereal, bread, jams, coffee, tea, biscuits, and fresh fruit. Would definitely stay here again!

If you want a quiet place in the countryside where you can walk along the country roads into the forest park, this beautiful log cabin is perfect. The cabin has quirky touches that bring the outside inside. It is set behind the owner’s house in their garden, so there is no road noise. The porch has 4 adirondack chairs so you can sit and enjoy the outside space rain or shine. The cabin is open plan, with a loft that can sleep 2 adults or it’s perfect to tuck the children up in while you relax.
There is space to park your car, and walk through to the cabin. There is a stereo system so you can listen to music.
Castlewellan is a perfect base for many interests. The forest park has mountain bike trails, walking paths, an arboretum and Europe’s largest maze. You can also rent kayaks and canoes to paddle around the lake. The Mourne Mountains are easily accessible, and Murlough Beach/Nature Reserve is down the road. There are several outstanding pubs and some lovely cafés in the town. For Game of Thrones fans, Tollymore Forest where many scenes were shot is a few short miles away. Legananny Dolmen, Dromena Cashel and Finnis Souterain are part of StoneAge Tours route for those interested in prehistory.
  • Tracy welcomed us with a lit stove in the cabin. It's a lovely little spot for a place to relax, and enjoy the views and nearby areas. We would definately recommend!

    Emma2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Well this place is just a wee slice of heaven! We have stayed in it just this last weekend and had an absolute ball. The space is clean, beautifully laid out and with some fabulously quirky features like the tree trunks going up through the cabin and the beautiful rainbow fairy lights in the eves. There is everything you need as well as some really thoughtful touches - tea, coffee, Trivial Pursuit etc. and it has the most beautiful views up to the back wall of the forest park along with their two beautiful little Shetland ponies. The cabin is lovely and cosy so despite staying there during storm Jorge we were lovely and snug with the log burner heating the entire cabin and a few electric heaters if you felt the chill. Tracy and Jimmy were fabulous hosts, from Tracy's local knowledge, Jimmy offering us a lift into the town if we wanted to head out for a few toots and making sure we never ran out of logs to burn. I just still can't get over the fact that Jimmy built it and Tracy decorated it - well done. We will be back!

  • What a gorgeous place! It's really beautiful, cosy, warm and sparkling clean! It's in amazing country side with beautiful views. Everything you could possibly need is provided and Tracy is a great host, nothing is too much bother. Just what I needed a relaxing night in a cosy log cabin in front of a roaring fire. Thank you!

    Laurie2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely quiet place to go to to relax or to be close to Castlewellen, Newcastle, Dundrum. The wood burning stove kept the pace toasty and it has great kitchen facilities. The wee veranda was lovely to sit on even in the rain. Would have loved to stay for longer and would definitely like to go back. Lovely, friendly hosts as well. Thanks!

  • Great apartment in centre of Newcastle. We were over for a family occasion and did not spend as much time in the apartment as we would have liked but we will return again. Very comfortable, great views of life passing by on main street and nice and quiet too with the bedroom at the back. Very funny watching all the kids rubber necking the ice cream parlour below. Very nice of the hosts to provide a welcome pack, that included local bread, butter, jam and milk. Stylish, comfortable apartment with all mod cons. Siblings, who were staying in two local well known hotels had a look around, were impressed and may well book up in future.

The hosts were very good with communication and the info pack was great for tips about the area. The location was great as it’s a short drive into the centre of Newcastle and also super close to the forest. All in all, we had a great stay and would recommend.

Lots of parking outside too and across the road is the entrance to a stunning forest with walks for all. The local town Newcastle is only a few minutes away in the car with a great beach and lots of walks/shops/restaurants. Overall perfect stay and we would definitely come back!

  • Forest View is the perfect getaway. The house is finished to such a high standard, it’s so beautiful! The amenities are great, they’ve really thought of everything. It was sparklingly clean when we arrived despite them having to rush to clean it for us. The hosts Peter and Paula were so responsive and accommodating. They provided a lovely thoughtful welcome pack and a folder with loads of leaflets about the surrounding areas and things to do. Tollymore forest park is literally just across the road and Newcastle town centre is about a 5 minute drive away. Everything was as advertised. Couldn’t fault it at all. Might have to come back if they’ll have us! Thank you again for a lovely stay!

  • I don’t even want to write this review and tell everyone how amazing it is as I want to keep this place for myself! From the first moment that we booked right up to our departure, Sarah was on hand to answer all of our queries. The space was absolutely beautiful, bigger than it looks in the photos and Sarah really has thought of everything! So many lovely little personal touches, she even asked what my son’s favourite cereal was so that she could provide it! We couldn’t fault a thing and would absolutely recommend this place 100%. We only checked out earlier today and have already booked our return visit!

    Shauna2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place is beautiful! It's 2minutes walk from town. The parking is around the corner from the address. Sarah is lovely and friendly with treats left in the fridge for us on arrival. Could not fault the visit. Thanks a million Sarah.

  • Sarah was an excellent host, easy to contact and quick to respond. The accommodation was modern and came with a few extra touches to make the space feel homely, including an electric blanket which is fantastic on those cold winter nights. Would recommend to anyone who is in the area for a wedding or hiking trip. Private car parking and walking distance to local shops and restaurants.

    Adam2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic Airbnb, very well thought out space, spotlessly clean with everything you need. Sarah is a super host and very welcoming from the very first communication . We will be highly recommending it . I’ve stayed in a few Airbnb’s and this was outstanding in all respects due to Sarah’s attention to detail and a real genuine desire to please . Super location, close to main st with some great little restaurants. Would highly recommend ‘Copper’ as had a lovely meal there and ‘Villa Vinci’ were very accommodating even though we hadn’t booked. 10/10

    Debbie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed in a few air b&bs over the years and susan was by far the best host we've had to deal with in terms of helpfulness and quick responses to any questions. The house is simple but perfect for what we were looking for and great value for money in the Newcastle area. I would highly recommend this house for a family trip to Newcastle or as a base if your hiking in the Mournes.

  • This was our 2nd stay in Janet’s place and it was as as great this time round, as last! Our stay this time has coincided with everything shutting down due to Covid-19 which, in a different apartment, might have been an issue. However Janet’s apartment is equipped pretty much to the standard of a home, so cooking meals was no problem, thankfully! For anyone due to stay during the restrictions, Mourne Seafood and the chip shop opposite, Bayside Catch, both remain open for takeaway, but nowhere is open to eat in. Both small local supermarkets have remained well stocked with basics too (well we never had an issue) Tesco and Supervalue in Newcastle also continued to have all we needed. The best advice I can leave though is to forget all about that and just enjoy the stunning views you will have with this apartment....social distancing is no problem here!!

    Vanessa2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Janet's condo is absolutely gorgeous. The location was perfect for us to relax and enjoy the scenery. The local grocery store was within walking distance as well as a few local restaurants and pubs. The bus stop was just a short 5 minute walk from Janet's condo and a hour ride to Belfast. The locals and Dundrum for very kind and helpful to us. Janet was also very helpful with providing prompt responses. Her condo was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Thank you Janet for sharing accommodations with us!

And a very short distance, across the road, you have access to the National Trust coastal path, to enjoy the rugged, stoney coast line.
  • Lobely hosts. Very good clean space. Handy to Newcastle, Kilkeel and the Mournes for trekking. Little extras left like a fresh Wheaten loaf, butter and jam.

  • The Loft is a cosy retreat that you can feel at home in at the end of your day sightseeing or hillwalking. Bryan and Catherine are considerate hosts and will give you as much or as little attention as you require.

  • A generous and comfortable space with the bonus of really comfortable bed, sofa and a useful kitchen area, with very helpful hosts. It was peaceful, accessible to Newcastle and reasonably priced. Hotel rooms are only good for a few nights, we could have stayed at The Loft for much longer. Many thanks!

  • Lovely, cosy loft. Didn’t feel like we were connected to the main house at all and felt very private. On arrival Catherine was so warm and very helpful with suggestions on where to eat and best routes to take on our journey up the mournes the following day. The room was warm on arrival and they even had milk, coffee, tea and cereal for us to use (we have went to places before with none of these things available so this was a nice touch) stunning views - the sea to the front of the house and the mournes to the back. Also great location, only a 1 minute drive in Newcastle town. Would come back here in heartbeat. Thanks guys :)

  • Andy is a great host, the apartment was spotless. He had provided clean towels and even went out of his way to leave some treats. Thanks for the tea coffee etc Andy I hope you enjoyed the treats we left in return.

  • My sisters and I had a great stay at Andy's place which is located within 20min drive to the various attractions like Tollymore Park and Mourne Mountains. The place was really beatiful and clean, and more spacious than I expected. It was a great 1 night stay.
