Special healthy outdoor space 5 miles from the nearest town. Our Mongolian yurt sleeps 5 and is very warm with a wood burning stove. In the Peak District hills opposite the Duke of York in Pomeroy, it has a seaside themed underfloor heated bathroom and additional toilet. Guests bring their own bedding and pillows. Towels provided. Sorry no dogs
Fully equipped with wood burning stove, gas hob, kitchenette with crockery and cutlery, fridge. There is a double futon bed and two/three single mattresses on the floor. The yurt is only 16' diameter so it is quite cozy with five. Please bring your sleeping bags and pillows. Check out is 10 am except by prior arrangement. Please ask before arrival as it can often be later
The yurts are in a field behind Street Farm with a panoramic view of the hills. Near Parkhouse and Chrome, this part of the Peak District is near the border with Staffordshire, and also near the beautiful market town of Bakewell and to Chatsworth
  • A lovely winter break! Really fast responses from Rachel who was great. The fire keeps the Yurt really warm and cosy!

  • We loved this yurt. Authentic, traditional Mongolian style which looks and smells great. The woodburner warms it up really quickly and keeps it really hot all night; the kitchen is simple but perfectly adequate; the bed is comfortable and we had a great night's sleep listening to the rain. We will definitely be coming back.

  • Cool little yurt, hidden away with a lovely log burner.

    Jack2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful spot for a few days of tranquility!! Once the fire got going it was wonderfully warm, and we made a huge den with all the pillows. Don't forget to bring extra blankets to sleep with. We loved every little detail to the eggs, wine and brioche!! So lovely. The area is incredible, walks nearby, noun opposite, Buxton just down the road. Highly recommended!!!

  • Brilliant hospitality, great yurt, really fun experience, would highly recommend.

    Bradley2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • An authentic Yurt that provided a great venue to meet up with some friends. Rachel gave us a warm welcome and provided excellent local advice on where to walk and visit. The yurt soon gets warm once the wood stove is lit and the small kitchen area is enough to make a simple meal. The yurt is ideally located and the pub directly opposite was great for a few pints.

Part of a former school, our home offers a cosy stay in a lively peak district village. We have stone windows, oak beams and a log burning stove in the spacious lounge. We are 20 minutes by car from Bakewell , Buxton and Castleton. A great walking area. Have a look at the visit peak district website for ideas about our area. We are only happy to take 7 guests at a time , no extra guests will be allowed as our insurance does not allow it.
We have 4 bedrooms, sleeping 6 or 7 adults. 1 King sized bed , 1 double , 1 small double bed and a single room. There are 4 steps up to the lounge. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Towels and cotton bedding provided. We have one bathroom , that has a shower, bath and toilet. We also have a separate toilet and sink , both of these are upstairs.
We love walking in the area. The nearby Monsal trail is great for cycling. We love the tea rooms , pub lunches and local markets. The village is friendly and has all you could need, including a local doctor , chemist, several shops and a great butcher. Please visit 'visit tideswell' website for further information about the area.
  • A very well equipped home in an excellent location. The house is warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable and the area quiet; just what was needed for a weekend of sewing and having some down time from our busy lives. We will return again as the property suited the 4 of us perfectly. We wish we had booked another day to finish off all our projects. Thanks for being a friendly and available host too.

She showed us everything we needed to know about the place (which is very nice and cosy) and then left us to it I can’t recommend this place highly enough , it has everything you need and is ideally placed in the village itself We found it ideal for our winter break and the solid fuel burner kept us really warm on the cold nights Thanks again maggie

A private, self-contained, en-suite annex, right next to the River Wye, in a beautiful, tranquil setting at Cressbrook MIll. Now renewably powered by a hydro turbine. Direct access to decking & garden so you can enjoy the water, wildlife and countryside. King size bed, TV, continental breakfast, kettle, tea/coffee/milk, toaster and a small fridge. Plenty of walks from the doorstep, cycle routes and climbing opportunities. Perfectly located to explore the Peak District - car recommended.
All on the ground floor, this is a modern extension built in 2006. As a new build, it is well insulated, has underfloor heating and has floor to ceiling glass on two sides to ensure it is light and airy. There is a table and 2 chairs where you can enjoy your tea/coffee whilst watching TV or taking in the view of the river and visiting wildlife. You have direct access to the decking and garden (shared with the owners) for a real riverside location. Through a door you have a small utility room with tea/coffee facilities (including fresh milk and a variety of teas and coffees), tabletop fridge, toaster, cutlery, crockery and glasses. Another door then takes you into your private shower room, also with underfloor heating. Towels and bedding are provided. There is 'Rural speed' broadband. Mobile signal is poor (or non-existent), but you can use WiFi calling if your phone and carrier support it - many do. We provide local OS Maps (1:25k) and some guide books for you to use during your stay.

Monsal Head, with Stable Bar and Hobbs Cafe (limited opening hours), is a mile away on foot and can be reached without walking on the road. The popular Packhorse country pub is about a mile and a half, in Little Longstone. Both are a downhill walk on the way back! The Monsal Trail is also perfect for an easy bike ride or there are many bridleways and trails if you have a mountain bike and are more adventurous. For climbing, the Rubicon Wall is just 200m away. A venue that many climbers travel for miles to get to, or make special holiday arrangements to be near. A short walk (up hill) to Cressbrook Hall (wedding venue)

  • We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. Despite the incredibly wet weather, we took advantage of the rambling tips provided and enjoyed some fantastic views. Wendy was extremely helpful and responded super quickly all of our questions. Breakfast was served at a time requested by us and it was absolutely amazing. Each day was slightly different. I would highly recommend this as a stay in the future and we are contemplating returning again in the warmer months. Thank you!

The perfect location to get stuck in with walking and the annex itself was great to come back to and wash up and get warm: a good shower, heated flooring and means to wash muddy clothes. Lovely breakfast to wake up to with a view on the river. Very clean.

This delightful Grade II listed cottage nestling in the picturesque Peak District benefits from being only a few steps away from the village store, tearoom & some cracking pubs! Cycle on the Monsal Trail or walk in the stunning grounds at Chatsworth House, both are easily accessible and glorious views await. A visit to the nearby market town of Bakewell to sample the infamous Bakewell Pudding, is also a must! Our aim has been to make The Bobbin, an extremely comfortable 'home from home' .
This cosy end cottage is part of an old Stocking Mill and is split over three floors and comprises: Ground Floor: Kitchen and Sitting Room with dining area First Floor: Double Bedroom Second Floor: Twin Room and Family Bathroom We love having families to stay, however, our listing states 4 people and if you are a family of 5 (ie 4 people + baby) you may find the cottage too confined for your needs. There is a shared Courtyard to the rear, accessible from the kitchen with table and chairs and two secure outhouses, one for laundry and the other for bicycles. Re children playing outside, please be advised there is no gate to close off the Courtyard. Please also note: The staircase is steep and may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm and very young children (no stair gates) - please contact if you would like to discuss further. The cottage is Grade II listed and has a low doorway to the kitchen.
The Bobbin is perfectly situated in the heart of the village & Ashford in the Water is steeped in fascinating history; along with the Monsal Trail on the doorstep, there is plenty to see & do. You can enjoy a day out visiting Derbyshire's jewel, Chatsworth or pop into Bakewell & then on to Haddon Hall. Nearby Hassop Station has a wonderful café, book & gift store too with cycle/bike hire available.
  • Perfect cottage stay. Debs and Simon were both really kind and helpful with tips for the area. Lovely space, and really comfortable bed! Great space for the baby to play and a nice travel cot and high chair available. The cottage is in a great location for exploring the area, handy for the Monsal trail walk and some excellent pub lunches. We’d definitely come again.

Helen was a great host and incredibly helpful. The village of Eyam offers some lovely pubs and coffee shops which are ideal for a pit stop. • I had a lovely stay at Keepers Cottage. It's cosy, quiet, and really well-located so I could get to pretty much anywhere I wanted really quickly – you'd never know it was so close to the A6 and Bakewell because the village feels so remote! The cottage has everything you need (including blankets and a woodburner, much appreciated in the chilly winter evenings), and the bed is really comfortable too. Jenna was very quick to respond to all my messages and questions, and I was so happy to find milk and eggs and a delicious cake waiting for me when I arrived! A great place for a little walking holiday and I will definitely come back.

  • This place is a perfect couples retreat! Or even a solo retreat. It’s small and cozy but has all the amenities one would want. We stayed here over Christmas and it had a nice oven, a microwave and big fridge to store and cook all of our food. If you want a rustic retreat you’ve come to the right place. The wood-burning stove is everything.

    Sally2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jenna’s home was well equipped and they were great hosts. The milk, eggs and cake was a nice welcome. Would definitely recommend to other travellers. Look forward to coming back again.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE *OPEN* We plan to continue giving people the opportunity to get away from it all especially during these challenging times. Please be assured that our careful, thorough cleaning routine is even more important to us at the moment. Leaping Hare Barn is a peacefully rural, rustic simply decorated and equipped upper floor barn situated at New Buildings Farm, a working small holding within the small, isolated parish of Flagg between Bakewell and Buxton.
Scenic rural countryside location. 17th century Loft barn accessed by steep stone stairs with fantastic countryside views. Original rough sawn floorboards and stone walls retain the buildings history and character.
Small isolated rural farming village. Situated 5 miles from the local towns of Bakewell and Buxton, near enough to civilisation and rural enough to enjoy the beautiful countryside of the Peak District.

  • We stayed over the weekend at Jenna's cottage and had a really lovely time. The cottage is well kitted out, sparkling clean, and very cosy. The bed was also extremely comfortable! It's really close to the centre of town, which has pretty much anything you need. We came primarily for walking, so spent a lot of time out of the place to explore the Peak District. But the location is great to access different walks.

    Ingrina2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage in a brilliant position in the town with an amazing view from the upper terrace.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Jenna’s place. The house was cosy and immaculately clean. There were also thoughtful touches like eggs, milk and a delicious cake! The place is ideal for exploring town - only a very short walk away. Highly recommended!

  • We had a really lovely stay here. It’s a great space for two people. The location was perfect for bike rides on the Monsal Trail and walks around the area. It’s also only a short drive to Hathersage for the Stanage Edge walk, Wetton for the Thor’s Cave walk and Earl Sternsdale for the Roaches/Luds Church walk. Special touches like the lemon drizzle cake, local fresh eggs, and milk left for us were a lovely surprise. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed; even a cafetière which we weren’t expecting. Definitely recommend this place!

  • Wonderful cottage with a lovely interior and some outside space. Great location for mam tor and Stanage edge. Penny was always prompt with her replies and very helpful following a power cut during one of the nights.

  • The stay at Brosterfield Farm was even better than we could have imagined from the images. The cottage was sparkling clean and incredibly cosy - the underfloor heating was a real treat after a long day of walking! The view surrounding the farm is beautiful and the amenities within the cottage were all we could have hoped for. Letting ourselves in with the key box made it feel very secluded and private but with information in the guest book about how to contact Penny and members of her family made it also feel like they would be on hand if ever we needed anything. The cottage came with a good amount of recommendations for places to eat and taxi services that we also utilised. I cannot recommend this cottage enough!

Comfortable 3* accommodation in the unspoilt village of Taddington, set in the heart of the magnificent Derbyshire Dales, midway between the ancient market town of Bakewell and the famous spa town of Buxton.
The accommodation comprises: living room with exposed beams and log burning stove (logs provided); a bright kitchen and dining room; spacious hallway; one double bedroom with en suite bath/shower room. There is a peaceful private area outside with views over the fields. All utilities are covered.
This is a great location for walkers. There are footpaths to popular destinations such as Millers Dale, Monsal Dale (where cycles are available for hire to travel the converted Midland railway route),Cheedale and Lathkil Dale, as well as many other paths linking villages and ancient sites. A few minutes walk up the footpath by the cottage takes you to High Well where there are spectacular wide ranging views of the area. For people who like to explore with a car, the cottage is a short drive to the stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall and is conveniently located for visits to Lyme Hall, Hardwick Hall, Calke Abbey and Kedleston Hall. The village is bypassed by the A6 and the majority of traffic is local as well as agricultural as it is a working village. Taddington has two public houses which serve locally brewed ales.
  • Gorgeous cottage in a lovely village. Great location for walking/ exploring the Peak District, or for a quiet relaxing weekend away. Check in was really easy, and the cottage was warm and welcoming with everything you need. Judith was very helpful and easy to communicate. Highly recommend, would visit again. Quiet, peaceful and comfy, we loved returning to a warm welcoming home at the end of each day. Judith has thought of everything and is a caring host from start to finish. I would very much recommend a visit here.

  • An absolutely wonderful cottage to escape to the peaks in! Close to all the places you could want to be (Bakewell, Buxton etc) but still in the peaceful countryside! We had terrible weather some of the time but the cosy cottage was great for snuggling up and watching some movies! We met Judith on arrival and on departure, she helped us with everything and was lovely and friendly, even asking how warm we like to be so she could set the heating for us! She left us to it the rest of the time, but when we messaged asking for the heating to be turned up due to the unexpected cold weather she messaged instantly and the heating was on within minutes!! This place had everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break, whatever your plans are! Do not hesitate to book this place!!

  • Little Barn is a lovely place to stay and really great value for what it offers! The hosts were very welcoming, helpful, and kind. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the bathroom (plus a second extra toilet) was sparkling clean and the shower is very spacious! The entire space was very well heated even when we were visiting in winter. The location is lovely, with some views just as you walk out of the driveway. And it's in the middle of the Peak District so easy to explore anywhere from here. Just remember to bring bedsheets, duvet/sleeping bag, and towels! The bunks in the bedroom took me back to my school camp days, very quaint! The bedroom is spacious and can easily fit the luggage of six people (there are six beds total).

The barn was cute and clean, easy to find (its even on our OS map) , quiet and comfortable. Top tips: don't forget towels ( oops!) And if you're going to hang out in the kitchen at night those of us with slippers were happiest on the beautiful flag stone floors:)

  • Delightful! By far the best Air BnB experience I've ever had. If you're looking for a rural getaway, this is the place for you. The location is a short drive from all the major points of interest and the cottage itself is cosy, homely & so inviting. The kitchen is very well stocked & there was even a bottle of bubbly welcoming me to the cottage! The rooms are spotless & real attention to detail has been paid. There are lots of thoughtful additions, such as a basket of board games & the welcome pack is comprehensive. Cathy offered me tips on where to walk and sent me addresses of tea rooms . I absolutely loved my stay & was sad to leave. I'll definitely be back! Thank you, Cathy and family 😊

They are very approachable and outgoing which made my trip to the Peak District very memorable.

  • We had such a fantastic stay at the cottage last year that we came back to stay this year. Our expectations coming back were met yet again and we had a fantastic stay. The cottage is clean, cosy and compact and contains everything that you need for your stay. Carole’s little touches like the message on the chalkboard, biscuits and dog treats make you feel really welcome.

    Shona2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage, it was tastefully decorated and had everything we needed. The extra touches we noticed where most appreciated to. Great location too.

    Fiona2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We needed a break away from the day to day grind and Carole's cottage was the perfect solution. Carole was very welcoming and her communication is fantastic. I have recommended to a number of my friends already and will continue to do so. The location is amazing and the cottage is so cosy and relaxing. We will be coming back as soon as possible!

    Wayne2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just returned from Carole’s place after a 2 night stay to celebrate my partners birthday. The cottage is small but cosy and there was plenty of space for us and our pooch. Everything has been thought of in this cottage even down to the very thoughtful extras including treats for the dog and a bottle of wine to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We also travelled on a particularly windy and snowy weekend, Carole had left us torches and candles incase of a power cut which was a lovely extra. Overall we had a lovely, cosy weekend which was central to everywhere we wanted to visit and the town really is only a short walk down the hill! We would definitely stay here again.

    Laura2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in Bakewell. Caroles cottage had everything we needed and was in a great location, very close to the town. Carole had some great suggestions about local places to visit and responded to very quickly to questions. We would definitely recommend staying there.

    Laura2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic little property just a short walk into Bakewell. Spotlessly clean with all the facilities and amenities you could ask for. In particular the hosts are fab. Extremely welcoming and helpful. Some lovely thoughtful touches on arrival that really made our stay. Couldn’t have wished for better hosts.

    Katy2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely time in Carole's little cottage. Perfect base for walking into Bakewell and for cosy winter evenings in. Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Charlotte2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Carole’s place for my parents (and dog!) for my Dad’s birthday present. They said it was a perfect, relaxing stay, despite the grey weather! Carole was a polite, accommodating host who went above and beyond to make sure my parents were looked after.

East Lodge is a two bed roomed cottage...sitting overlooking the meadow and river . It is five minutes walk across the meadow to the market town of Bakewell. Decor is traditional...wooden floor in sitting room, tiled kitchen floor and carpeted upstairs. All windows look out across the meadow. There is a paved garden to the front and a yard at the back with a shed suitable for bikes.
East Lodge is a charming, beamed cottage. All of the rooms look out over the front of the house over the river and the meadow. It is a quiet, level stroll over the meadow into the delightful market town of Bakewell. The walk takes five minutes, which includes time to stop and watch the rainbow trout sunbathing in the shallows of the river!
The cottage is a lodge at the end of an unused drive. There is another lodge the other side of the driveway where a lovely family live. They are both out at work. A gate directly infront of the cottage takes you into the meadow, where you can enjoy a short stroll that brings you out on the edge of the town on the old Bakewell Bridge. There are lots of little independent shops in the town...numerous pubs and coffee shops, and a co.op. Take a walk down by the river....plenty of trout to spot..or feed the ducks. Every Monday there is an excellent market in the town...good cheese...vegetables etc., worth a browse round. Nearby is Haddon Hall...which has a wonderful rose garden...and Chatsworth House is about 10 minutes away. Wonderful walks round the park and surrounding countryside. A great tea rooms at Edensor in the Park after a walk...lovely food. The Monsal Trail is 5 minutes away...a beautiful walk or cycle ride...spectacular views at Monsal Head...and very dark tunnels, only dimly lit...very spooky! Hassop Station ....by the trail is a brilliant stop for delicious food and coffee...and also sells cards...books etc. There is lots of information in the cottage about walks , places to eat etc.
  • Great location, on a quiet no-through road, ten minute stroll through the meadow, by the river, to town with plenty of great pubs and restaurants. The cottage is very dog friendly, with wooden floor in the living room and tiled floor in the kitchen, with room for a crate if needed. Back yard is very escape proof and ideal for an early morning or late night wee! The front garden is great for sitting out in, watching the world go by, slowly! The living room is cosy, TV and wi-fi, and two comfortable sofas, and a log burner should the weather turn chilly. Bedrooms very comfy, and the bath is great, you can look out the window while you’re sitting in the bath.

  • Fab cottage in a great location! Perfect for us and our teenage daughter

    Nicholas2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very cosy and comfortable and in a superb location just a short walk across the meadow to Bakewell town centre, with the countryside and the Monsal trail in the other direction. Highly recommended!

    Jon2019-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • East Lodge is a lovely old house with views across the water meadows from kitchen, drawing room, bedrooms and bathroom windows. It is well equipped and really comfortable. It is a five minute walk into town for shopping (the wine merchant on the trading estate is very good) or dining and a five minute drive to Chatsworth Estate farm shop for great meat and produce. Susie has really catered for dogs, which made us feel very welcome. There are lots of good walks either from the door or within a few mins drive which our labrador enjoyed hugely.

    Jonathan2019-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with a great location.

    Jon2019-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely excellent cottage. Literally 5 minutes walk from Bakewell centre but really quiet. Lots of dog walks from the cottage in all directions. Cottage properly dog friendly with two safe and enclosed outside spaces. Nice basket of food left and items in the fridge, very welcome...and a roaring fire in the log burner, couldn't ask for more. We shall certainly return - can't wait. Susie, the owner, was excellent regarding communication, answering fully and promptly at all times. Bakewell is a lovely small town with good shops and pubs. The Manners, Pointing Dog and Duck and the Wheatsheaf all serve excellent food at reasonable prices.

  • Stephen's place was just what we'd hoped for - a proper farm cottage, with a cosy feel. The log burner was great and made for lovely, warm, relaxing evenings. Communication was easy and very clear, and everything was as expected. We appreciated the little extra touches too - a few goodies and lots of local information. It is also well situated to explore Buxton, Bakewell and of course, the best of the Peak District is on your doorstep!

  • Stephen’s cottage is an absolutely lovely cosy little place to stay - the location is fantastic for walks in the Peak District with spectacular views, and coming back after a day of walking to the log fire is an absolute treat. Stephen was a lovely host the place was very clean and tidy and had some really thoughtful touches such as leaving a bottle of wine out for us to celebrate our anniversary - we would have no hesitations about coming to stay again, in fact I am already planning to do so with some friends when the weather gets a bit nicer! • House was small but lovely and comfortable and cosy. Was perfect for us as a couple and the area was lovely to wander around. We visited the nearby pub and tearooms which both served lovely food and drink. Roslyn was a helpful host and answered any queries really quickly. A perfect base for a long weekend of walking in the peaks!

  • Great stay at Nanny Peggy’s cottage. Excellent communication and pet friendly too! Thanks for the great hospitality.

  • Cottage is situated in a lovely little village. Local shop, tea room and pub all on your door step. A short drive to Bakewell. Some great local walks. It was a little small for us as we took a dog and a baby and would probably book somewhere bigger next time. But this is perfect for a couple of any age to go and stay in. The log burner is a must ( we visited in feb 2020) with small amounts of snow falling every day we were there. When you light it you literally don’t want to move. And it warms the entire cottage up with ease. Great walk in shower! And very good WiFi! Highly recommend the local pub (bulls head) who is ran by the owner of the cottages son. Great bloke and an extremely good pint. Very welcoming to all of us even with our young son and lively puppy. We had a small problem with the sink leaking which was attended too very promptly even on a Sunday. Thank you very much for making our birthday and wedding anniversary weekend enjoyable and comfortable. All the best James, Laura, Arthur and Jasper the dog

  • The perfect getaway for a lovely, cosy and relaxing break in Derbyshire. Periwinkle cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and very well equipped with all you could require. Comfortable bed with luxury linens, towels and dressing gowns! We very much enjoyed the bottle of bubbly and cake which Sherry left for us to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Excellent position with lovely local walks from the cottage and great pubs in the village or just to chill out! Even our dog, an active border collie, settled straightaway. Baslow and Bakewell are just a few minutes drive away. Prompt and excellent communications from Sherry. One of the best Air B&B cottages we have stayed in and we would certainly wish to return.

    Glenn2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sherry’s cottage is gorgeous, incredibly clean, and well equipped. It was perfect for a quiet Christmas break, with lovely walks from the doorstep. The rooms are spacious and the woodburner was easy to use and delightful to sit and read by. I’d love to stay again.

  • Cosy cottage in a perfect location from Bakewell, Chatsworth, Hathersage and Hassop. We loved our stay, it was warm and cosy and the local village shop up the road is an added bonus, it sold locally sourced fresh produced, which was very yummy. Pubs in walking distance too, but the cottage was so nice it was hard to leave it in the rain ☔️ in the evening. Sherry was the perfect host. Thank you 😊

    Amy2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sherry’s place is exactly what you hope for! Pray for a bit of rain so you have a good excuse to just stay put and enjoy it. Everything you think you’ll need is there plus many thoughtful extras.

Brand new for June 2018 this one bed, one bath cottage is set in an idyllic rural location with breath-taking views and direct access across the owners' fields to a footpath which leads either down to the famously picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water or uphill to the drama of Monsal Head. A beautiful, recently converted, barn which was originally the Groom’s Cottage. Set in an idyllic rural location with breath-taking views and direct access across the owners' fields to a footpath which leads either down to the famously picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water or uphill to the drama of Monsal Head, home of the Monsal Trail, and the villages of Little and Great Longstone. To make the most of the far-reaching countryside views the Groom’s Cottage is in an upside-down configuration. The open plan kitchen/dining and sitting room take over the entire top floor with three large south-facing roof windows opening fully and flooding the room with light. There is a modern, newly fitted kitchen, a dining table, comfortable seating, exposed ceiling beams and a log burner for the cooler evenings. The barn is stocked with many lovely books about the various attractions in the immediate area. Downstairs, you enter from your own private garden to the hallway which has coat hanging and boot storage. On this floor is the cosy bedrooms with a sash window opening onto the garden (the bed is zip-lock and therefore adaptable as either two large single beds or a huge super-king bed). The bed is modern, pocket sprung and comfortable and the linen is all white Egyptian cotton. The bathroom is newly fitted, with gorgeous glazed ceramic tiles, there is a bath and shower over it. Groom’s Cottage has its own gravelled parking area at the bottom of the garden. The garden is laid to grass with a gravel path to the front door and a planting bed along one wall which is home to mature shrubs. The small south-facing lawn enjoys the dappled shade of a huge Horse Chestnut tree in the afternoons. There is a lovely painted garden bench with views over the fields for sundowners.Wood Burning Stove. TV with Freeview and Netflix. Wifi and there is 4G in the area. Books and Board Games. A stash of current local tourist information leaflets. Fluffy cotton Bath and Hand Towel for each guest. Hair dryer 100% Egyptian Cotton Bedlinen in white Beds with pocket sprung mattresses. Although guests may need to arrive by car, you can leave it at home for the rest of the stay. By crossing our private fields and slipping through one of two gates our guests at Groom’s Cottage can join a pretty footpath which connects them to the huge Peak District network of trails. Groom’s Cottage is ideally located to make the very most of the area. It is a ten minute walk (2 minute drive) down to the picture postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water. Ashford is one of a handful of the truly lovely villages in the Peak. There is a small but excellent village shop, several good pubs, a pretty church and the idyllic, much photographed bridge over the River Wye which is home to many hungry ducks! Buses leave the village regularly for the spatown of Buxton in one direction and Bakewell, Rowsley, Matlock and Derby in the other. If you head up the hill on the footpath from Groom’s Cottage you get to the dramatic views of Monsal Head where you can join the Monsal Trail, if you wish. Otherwise there are the sleepy villages of Great and Little Longstone to explore (home to some very good pubs too!). Groom’s Cottage is only minutes from many of the major local attractions. The market town of Bakewell (market day is Monday) is 5 minutes away by car. Chatsworth House and all it has to offer is only a ten minute drive away. The Tudor splendour of Haddon Hall is also ten minutes away. Hassop Station (for bike hire and the Monsal Trail), Eyam, Hathersage, Kinder Scout, Stanage Edge, the NT Longshore Estate, Tideswell, Buxton and many other excellent places are all within half an hour of the front door. There really is something for everybody.

  • A really comfortable high-spec little cottage, in a nice village, with a pub 100 yds away, and great walking countryside from the door. Hard to beat. The only slight disappointment, which was down to my inattention, was that the open fireplace contained not a wood-burning stove as I had hoped (and even brought some spare wood for!) as the photos suggested, but a gas fire. To be fair, this was stated in the description, and it worked perfectly well. It wouldn't put me off coming again.

    Chris2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful couple of days at tub cottage with our two young boys and dog. The cottage is one of the best we’ve stayed at, very well equipped, beautifully decorated and really was like a home away from home. The hosts had even gone to the trouble of putting together a welcome gift which was really lovely. Communication was great too and the hosts made a real effort to ensure our stay was perfect. Thank you for a great stay, we hope to visit again soon.

  • Thanks for accommodating Catherine and I over the Yuletide Penny :-) Apologies for being a touch late on check out. Some small feedback from us: when starting the fire there was some smoking that came into the room, and the flue plate inside the fire was slightly out of place which I think didn't help; but once hot and drawing it was fine :-). When we got to the cottage we couldn't find the fridge! I assumed it just didn't have one, but having just re-checked the listing it is listed: were we just v blind!? I should have messaged you! Thanks for making such a beautiful cottage available in this stunning location. It was a completely idyllic weekend.

    Matt2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy cottage perfect for hibernating in after long days out walking in the Peaks. Great location for Bakewell and Castleton whilst being out of their busier bustle. Had no problems with the Wi-Fi but was never streaming videos, TV had all your standard channels. The pub being in stumbling distance was certainly a bonus, offering delicious veggie and meat dishes and good local beer! I'm sure we'll be back! :)

    Jess2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint little cottage ideal for a couple weekend away. Log burner is a warm welcome on returning from the outdoors. Great location!! The pub which you can see from the front gate, serves excellent lunches and dinners! The most beautiful waterfall is only a short walk away, but has a very steep decent & is hidden from the road so do your research first! Hosts were very attentive towards our questions regarding Xmas activities & know the local areas well.

It was a great location for us as we wanted to walk Mam Tor which was only a 15 minute drive away and we also visited nearby Bakewell. Sarah’s communication was great, as was Natalie from next door! All in all a pleasant and comfortable stay, thank you Sarah.

  • Amazing location and accommodation in Bakewell. Beverley was the perfect host. Clear communication and helpful tips. Couldn't have asked for more - would definitely use again.

  • This is an absolute jewel of a place of you are looking for a place to base an exploration of the Peak District. It's right in the centre of Bakewell with its many pubs and shops, but is in a fairly quiet street. Beverley is the perfect hostess, greeting us on arrival and farewelling us too. She replies very quickly and has plenty of helpful advice about where to go and what to see. The property itself is clean and perfectly set up for two people. It's charming and slightly querky, in a good way. The bed is really comfortable. You might just want to be aware of the fact that there isn't a shower, but there is heaps of water for baths. Very highly recommended. Thanks, Beverley.
