Places to stay in Brayton

Places to stay in Brayton
A lovingly restored, 15th century barn in the pretty village of Brayton, 1.5 miles south of Selby. Private and self-contained, the barn offers luxurious, modern accommodation with a large outside space and impressive views of the nearby medieval church. Easy access to the M1, A1, M62 and A19 with good transport links to major locations such as York (14 miles), Leeds (24 miles) and other destinations make it a relaxing and ideal base to unwind and explore the beautiful Yorkshire surroundings.
The barn is in an idyllic location hidden away down a small, quiet lane away from the road yet within walking distance of everything you need. The impressive Grade 1 listed medieval church that stands opposite dates as far back as the Norman times and has wonderful architecture. Why not enjoy a cup of Yorkshire tea or glass of wine in the garden whilst gazing at the impressive view? We have taken time to lovingly restore this listed barn, it is decorated and furnished beautifully to highlight its light and airy features, whilst also making the place feel modern and cosy. Ideal for a romantic get away for couples or for a relaxed family get away. Living Area Comfortable high-quality sofabed which will give both a place to relax and a place to sleep should you need the extra space. A large TV with Netflix and watch again channels. A blue tooth speaker and a selection of board games for your entertainment Dining area Modern dining table seating up to 4 Kitchen Modern fully fitted kitchen with electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and fridge-freezer with water function, kettle and toaster. We have all the pots, pans, plates etc that you should need. We also have the basics such as olive oil and seasonings should you wish to cook something during your stay. There's always plenty of tea, coffee and sugar. Bathroom The stand-out room in the whole barn! Huge walk-in powerful shower with feature-light shelving. Separate bath with a shelf to rest your glass of wine while soaking. Feature-lit mirror over a huge wall-hung sink. The bathroom will always be stocked with plenty of fluffy towels. Please note that access to the bathroom is via the bedroom. Bedroom Huge open-plan bedroom with high ceilings which add so much light to this already open and airy space. King sized bed with luxury bed linen. Stylish dressing table and chair. Floor to ceiling glass door and juliet balcony opening out at the end of the room with fantastic views of the church. A double wardrobe and drawers mean you won’t be fighting over space for your clothes! Outside There is room for 2 cars outside the property and you will access through your own front door. Outside the back of the barn there is a gorgeous wrap-around walled garden and private patio with outdoor seating area - this is a private space for your own use. This is a real sun-trap and we hope you get a chance to use it. Other This is a new listing as we only completed the conversion in January 2020 Free WIFI All bedding and towels are provided Please let us know if there is anything specific you will require for your stay - we will always try to accommodate wherever possible.
We will provide a detailed information brochure for you once you have made your booking with information. However, we love our area and enjoy eating out, drinking, walking and cycling so we would be happy to make any personal recommendations for the local surrounding areas. Brayton is a friendly Yorkshire village with a warm and sociable community. There are two local pubs within a short walk. The nearest grocery store is 5 minutes’ walk away. There is a wonderful farm shop with a cafe on site which sells locally sourced meats, pies, vegetables and gifts. The local butchers sell freshly made pork pies which we believe to be the best in Yorkshire! There are wonderful riverside, woodland and countryside walks and cycle routes from the door. Selby The barn is located just 1.5 miles from the historic centre of Selby. The central attraction of Selby is the 11th century Abbey, birthplace of Henry I. Selby offers numerous shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and a weekly market. Selby Town Hall is a great live venue in the area for music and comedy. The transport links from Selby town centre are fantastic and you can easily get to Leeds, York or Hull as well as many other destinations by train or bus. The Trans Pennine Trail is an exciting route for walkers and cyclists which runs entirely on surfaced paths and gentle gradients. It runs largely along disused railway paths and canal towpaths. The route from Selby to York is approximately 14 miles and is well worth the effort. York The beautiful, medieval walled city of York has an outstanding past. The quality and range of historic buildings and monuments make it one of the most interesting and important historical places in the world. It has excellent tourist attractions as well as boasting a wealth of fantastic pubs and restaurants.

  • We stayed only for a couple of nights whilst visiting family in the area. It was a very pleasant and comfortable stay. The space is spacious and exactly as advertised. This is a dog friendly property with secured garden at the back and lovely woodland walks close by. Our puppy loved it! Useful to know, the postcode goes to neighbouring property so double check you going to a right farm. Ian was helpful waiting for us as were arriving quite late in the evening.

  • Lovely people and outstanding stay

    Jonathan2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ohhhhh, where do I start?!?! From the outset, everything with this stay was perfect. From the initial email enquiry, which was answered very quickly, to the text communication leading up the booking date, to the very warm greeting upon arrival, I could not have wished or asked for more. My room for the night was outstanding and the availability of facilities means that my stay was very good value for money. Everything is very clean and everywhere is completely spotless - this can really only be described as truly home from home. I was made to feel at ease immediately and within a very short space of time, I had completely unwound from my drive from Birmingham and feeling very relaxed. The hosts mean what they say when they say make yourself at home. Not only did I enjoy my visit to York, I enjoyed my stay with the hosts and honestly cannot wait for my next stay with them.

    Natika2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with Gareth and Ebbie because I was running a race that happened to be a 7 min drive from the start line. It was my first time staying somewhere where the hosts lived alongside the guests but they were both so chilled, friendly and welcoming. I did not feel awkward in the communal areas or when I chose to go to my room. It's clear they love hosting and are well used to people coming and going. The house is so spacious no one was tripping on anyone elses toes (or paws!) They were very quick to respond via the air bnb site. As you can see from previous reviews the house is really clean and tidy. It was an extra treat for me to use the bath as I only have a shower at home and the lemon water in my room was a lovely touch. Thank you both- same time next year?! 😂

    Lizzie2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing hosts!!!! you couldn’t meet a more chilled out couple, I’ve enjoyed every moment of my several month there and couldn’t recommend them enough!

  • Eppie and Gareth are great hosts. The house is spotless and really nice decor. The house backs onto fields and us in a lovely quiet spot. The information folder in the room is another nice touch. It is only 20-30 minutes to York. Thank you.

In the kitchen Darren and Niki have a table full of York tourism flyers which are very helpful if you want to explore the city. There's also a great selection of local take away flyers if you want to have a nice cosy dinner in. York city centre is literally 10 min drive away and bus number 4 is right outside, coming every 11 minutes. Set in the grounds of The Jefferson Arms Pub in Thorganby. Ideal base to explore the surrounding nature walks and local fishing spots. It is also on a designated bus route into York city centre where you can explore all this historic city has to offer.
  • A lovely room and en-suite situated just behind the pub, so nice and quiet. Clean, cosy and warm considering it was February and the host, Sean, was extremely hospitable from the moment we arrived. Recommend an excellent steak served in the pub and the breakfast was plentiful.

    Nick2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay with Sean perfect location for a work related trip.

    Keith2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy room and great customer service. Had a couple of meals in the pub. If Beef Wellington is on the menu, go for it. It was yummy.

    Patricia2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The room is situated above a Pub’s outhouse, it was spacious, tastefully decorated, furnished and very comfortable. I ate an evening meal in the pub and they were very accommodating, the breakfasts were also very tasty, you can’t beat a full English breakfast. A great place for visiting York and the surrounding area. I spent the afternoon at the Yorkshire Air Museum which was also a great attraction and situated a few miles away in a neighbouring village.

    Peter2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Jefferson's arms is a great place to stay if visiting York. 20 minute drive to the centre. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner, certainly will use again when in York!

    Sidney2019-08-25T00:00:00Z

Fairways is cosy and relaxing houseboat and it's a great way to experience living on the river. It is moored in the picturesque village of Bishopthorpe, with shops, fish & chips and pubs less than 10 min walk away. York's city centre is 10 min drive away and there is a local bus service. A riverside walk to the centre takes 50 min. In high season there is a little cabin selling drinks, ice cream and hot food and renting kayaks less than 100m away. Please read carefully for more details.
Our boat has a cosy living/bedroom area with an electric stove and a TV and a well-equipped kitchen with a hob, a small fridge and a dining area with our favourite window seat. The river view out of the window will provide the perfect backdrop to your houseboat experience :-) In the main living area there is a double bed and a sofa bed, which can be quickly converted into a small double bed for another 2 guests to sleep on or simply to relax on and put your feet up. Please keep in mind the main double bed is located at the front of the boat so it has a unique shape - narrow at the feet, 210 cm wide at the top and 186 cm long. The sofa bed has a similar shape: 102 cm at the feet, 112 cm at the top and 182 cm long. Please advise us at the time of booking if the sofa bed will be used for sleeping so that we can provide additional bedding before your check-in. We provide an electric stove, a de-humidifier and a fan for your comfort. In the winter we also provide an additional radiator for extra warmth. We have an umbrella for our guests but you may also want to bring wellies just in case, especially if you plan some countryside walks. There is a compact toilet onboard. Additional WC stalls and great spacious showers are available in the bathroom block 1 min walk from the boat. Fairways is perfectly located for switching off and enjoying the countryside but we have fast Wifi onboard for those of our guests who wish to stay connected, work or study. Check-in is 3pm to 9pm (please let us know if you plan to arrive after 9pm) and check-out is 11am. Late check-out is usually available for a small fee. If you have any special requests , please let us know and we'll try to accommodate them if possible.
Bishopthorpe is a great base for both a countryside experience and exploring York. There is a lot of greenery around our boat and a large free car park in the boat yard. This area is very popular with dog walkers and dogs are welcome on our boat. The riverside walk to York city centre is peaceful and beautiful. A walk to York's famous horse racecourse takes 30 min. There is also a frequent and convenient local bus service to both York city centre and the racecourse. The village of Bishopthorpe is very pretty and it's great for exploring on foot. A lovely walk to the historical Bishopthorpe Palace takes only 10 min. The village has excellent local pubs on Main Street, around 5 min from the boat. Fish & Chips takeaway is only 10 min away. You will also find a local Co-op store and other small shops in the neighbourhood.
  • Perfect spot for a quiet getaway but also close enough to explore the city! Much better than staying at a hotel x

    Robyn2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cosy, quirky stay. I stayed during storm Ciara and still had the best time. Ali messaged me to warn about the storm and checked into see if we were safe. I packed extra blankets as I thought we would be cold but the boat heats really quickly and is really comfortable. Will defo stay again

    Kayleigh2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

Church Cottage lies in 2 acres of landscaped gardens in the beautiful village of Escrick, 6 miles from the centre of York. The building dates back to 1850 and is also home to an award-winning Thai restaurant. The Garden Room at Church Cottage is a large, ground floor bedroom with en-suite toilet/shower room and kitchenette. There's a super king-sized bed, which can be converted to 2 singles if requested when booking. Lovely views of the garden and plenty of unshared space for dining outside.

York with its racecourse, shops - and not forgetting all that history - lies only 15 minutes away by car or bus. Even closer is the York Designer Outlet, an irresistible attraction for those wanting serious retail therapy. There's a convenient Park and Ride there too. Guests with interests more outdoors than indoors, may prefer the peace and quiet of Escrick and the surrounding countryside. Very close to us are internationally important nature reserves at Skipwith Common and the Lower Derwent Valley.

  • This has been the first time I have ever used Airbnb, and I am so Happy I came across Roberts Home. He was an amazing host from the start, very thorough and friendly. He made us feel at home straight away. The home was beautiful inside and out, and had such attention to detail. All the amenities and utensils you could ever need were within the home. Not to mention the Thai food at the restaurant was delicious. I can’t rave enough about this place, but it has made a lot of lovely memories. We will definitely be returning. ☺️

    James2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious room. Very comfy beds. Lovely lining and super soft towels. Massive TV. Felt like they had thought of everything. Milk, cereal and fresh eggs in the fridge. Even an extra heater provided. Which was perfect, as we did stay on a very cold weekend, we did use it. The location was perfect for what we needed. Bus stop straight out side, infront of the church. 20 minutes to York centre and less than 10 minutes to York outlet centre. The buses also run every 15 minutes. Very impressed! £5.70 return to York. The driver even let us get off at the outlet centre on the way back for a bit of shopping and use the same return ticket to make the rest of the journal back to the property. The property was very easy to find. The restaurant which is attached is very well sign posted, so just look for that.

Our focus is on cleanliness, comfort and friendliness. Situated in a peaceful residential area, 2 miles outside York centre, enjoy a relaxing break with the flexibility of self catering accommodation. We have excellent parking either on street or secure parking on your own private driveway. Regular bus routes into the city are easily accessible.
Middlethorpe Grove is off Tadcaster Road (A1036), the south side of the city. Around 2 miles from the city centre and the train station. We are well placed for getting into the city centre with its endless attractions and history by bus or by car. Also for touring the area with easy connections onto the A64 for east coast routes to Scarborough and the North Yorkshire Moors and also the A59 for the Yorkshire Dales and Harrogate. York University is easily accessible via the ring road by car.

  • Loved staying at Joanne’s Airbnb. Really cosy, homely, has everything you need. Joanne provided a range of teas, milk in the fridge for our arrival. There was even breakfast cereals though we did not use these. We enjoyed cosy evenings watching DVDs that were provided but there was also guest Netflix. Theres a great folder with information on buses, food places etc and a little table with leaflets on what to do in the area. Joanne’s place is in a great location, only 2 miles Into York city centre, very near to the race course. Thank you Joanne for a very relaxing and peaceful stay, highly recommended.

Check-in was super easy and the helpful guide left by Rob and Aimee made it really easy to get into York by bus. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a short stay in York.

The home itself is really cosy, very clean and brilliant value for money. Rob and Aimee are brilliant with communicating and any questions were answered really quickly. Would definitely stay again if returning to York.

A stunning studio in the historic village of Riccall, with free off-street parking and its own stylish kitchen and bathroom. Just 8 miles from the beautiful city of York, Riccall contains everything you might want for your break: restaurant, pubs, takeaway, Post Office, hair salon and shop but it is also a perfect base for very easy access to York; buses leave from the end of the road every 15 minutes, driving is super quick and easy + Riccall is even on a gorgeous cycle/walking track to York.
A combination of sleek modern with quirky vintage, 'The Snug' offers the perfect getaway. Your own private studio with its own entrance and patio, 'The Snug' has its own perfectly formed and well equipped kitchen with oven/hob, washer/dryer, welcome basket with breakfast items, including bread, butter, cereal, delicious homemade flapjack/jams, range of teas/fresh coffee/hot chocolate, along with milk/squeezed juice/bottled water in the fridge. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are provided in the modern bathroom, complete with powerful 'rain' shower. Freshly laundered towels, cosy bedding, blankets and robes will be ready for your arrival. Free Wifi is available throughout your stay. Choose from a variety of DVDs or Freeview is available through Amazon Fire. The kingsize sofa bed with mattress topper has been declared super-comfy by visitors to 'The Snug'. We use eco/organic products wherever possible. 'The Snug' is a chic extension to the old Station Master's House (dating back to the 1860s) where we live; the old East Coast Mainline that was behind the house is now the road to York. The cycle track (to York or Selby) is also close by and wonderful for a lovely walk/cycle ride too. Free parking and excellent access to surrounding areas, including York (which is 15 minutes by car or there is a fantastic and frequent bus service that takes you to the centre).
The village is easily accessed via the major road networks so getting here will be no problem. You can eat in (or we can recommend takeaways if desired), enjoy a meal in our village (there is a wonderfully authentic italian restaurant in a converted windmill called 'Burro'), or drive/take one of the very frequent buses into York. The Designer Outlet is en-route so it's a great opportunity for a stop-off where the shopping experience draws people from all over the country. York has an incredible wealth of things to see and do all year round, with the ancient walled centre offering more attractions per square mile than any other UK destination.
  • I booked The Snug as I was competing in a powerlifting competition in the local area and we needed a base to stay for the weekend. The snug was perfect! It had everything we needed, it was clean, cosy and warm! The welcome basket was a lovely touch and the flapjacks were just yum! The communication from claire was always really quick and super informative! Would definitely recommend staying at the snug if your in the local area! Couldn't have asked for anything better!

It was a lovely surprise having the hamper in the kitchen. Saved us a trip down to the shops to get the milk for our cuppa :) Claire is very quick to respond to messages and an excellent host. We will keep ‘the snug’ in mind for when we next come up to York. Location was beautiful too!! THANK YOU!

    Ella2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The SNUG was incredible. When we arrived we had a card and some essential food left for us, very thoughtful touch and very appreciated. The ‘bedroom’ was of a decent space and the bed was so comfortable. Everything was clean and there was everything we needed including shampoos, towels and leaflets of the area. We will defiantly stay at the snug again. Thank you so much.

Our lovely little cabin is perfect for weekend excursions, romantic getaways or as a riverside base for longer stays in and around historic York. Please note there are no extra costs for cleaning or linen :)
The cabin comes ready for you to hop straight into bed after a long day! Sheets, towels, tea, coffee, and breakfast sundries included. The small decking area in front of the cabin can be a lovely spot for your morning cup of tea, weather permitting! The cabin is situated at the edge of a family-run campsite and backs onto a neighbouring wooded field. You’ll have full use of all campsite amenities, picnic area and little playground. There is a riverside tea hut on site that serves sandwiches, hot drinks, snacks and sweet treats every day through the summer months from 8am until 5pm. There is ample free parking in front and to the side of the cabin.
Bishopthorpe is a beautiful village dating back to the 12th century, making it a perfect holiday destination just on the outskirts of York. York is a town steeped in history, founded by the Romans, occupied by the Vikings, a trading centre in medieval times, and a hub of the industrial revolution with important rail links and, importantly, chocolate factories! All of these changes are visible in the fabric of the town and in the many sites and museums you can visit during your stay. York also has a lively food scene with a huge range of both independent and well-known restaurants and cafes. The cabin is also a 20 minute walk from York racecourse where important race meets occur throughout the horse racing season, from May until October. The racecourse is also the site of one of the largest car boot sales in the area, where you can grab yourself a bargain every Saturday morning (apart from during race meets), early until around 1pm from late April until the end of October. The village of Bishopthorpe itself is a 5 or 10 minute walk from the cabin and is home to three pubs and a sports & social club, a small Co-operative supermarket, a butcher's, a bakery, a fish & chip shop, a newsagent's, a sandwich shop, a library, a pharmacy, a barber and a parish church. For a wider choice of shops and restaurants, the Designer Outlet shopping complex is 10 minutes drive away. Bishopthorpe palace, the beautiful home of the archbishop of York, is a Grade I listed building visible from the embankment, though unfortunately it is not open to the public.
  • Lovely, cosy place to stay and enjoy the sights of York! Easy walk into the city centre - will definitely be visiting again.

The Old School Room is a home converted from an old Victorian classroom. To the front of the property you will see the addition of a room which is my guest room. It was an addition to the school in the 1930s and formed the cloakroom. Since the renovation the high ceilings have been carefully plastered creating a beautiful room. How do I know all this, well my children, my mother in law and her father all attended school here, making this such a special home. Behind the room is a separate toilet and basin. The new bathroom, with shower and bath, is upstairs. The living room still has the lovely feel of the old classroom with the high windows and even the stationery cupboard is still there! Now with new furniture and warm decoration this is a lovely room to relax in. The kitchen was refitted in 2016 boasting hob, microwave combination oven, fan oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and boiling hot water tap, but if you prefer a kettle I can get one out! To the end of the kitchen is a beautiful dining area which is captures the sun. A carbon monoxide detector is not needed as there is no gas hob, no open fire and the boiler is outside. There is no gas to the property or in the village. The heating is oil fuelled. The boiler is serviced annually and passed all emission tests this year as expected. This is a working family kitchen, it is the heart of my home where I spend a lot of time - you’ll understand why.! You are invited to use this space in addition to your breakfast but are asked to accept that a busy family kitchen, with pets, cannot, no matter how hard I try to ensure it is, be kept sparkly clean 100% of the time. If you wish to use the kitchen to prepare your own meals please let me know when booking so I can ensure it’s extra sparkly!
The Old School Room is opposite the village pub, The Black Bull, which serves excellent food (there is a copy of the up-to-date menu in the room). The village also has two other restaurants The Parsonage and The Fat Abbott. The York Designer Outlet (complete with Park and Ride into York) is less than a 10 minutes drive away. Thus is a MacArthur Glen outlet with stores including Cath Kidston, Gap, M&S, Build a Bear, North Face, Mountain Wearhouse and many more! **BUS ** .... the service is the Arriva Yorkshire 415 and 416 (York - Selby). They pass through the village every 20 minutes during the day dropping to 30 minutes in the early evening to hourly later on. The last bus home on Friday and Saturday leaves York at mignight. You can download a timetable app and ticket app to aid your journey. *BUS STOP * this is a 10 minute walk from the house.
  • Judi was a fantastic, friendly host who went out of her way to ensure we had a brilliant stay. The room was great, her dogs and cat were so friendly and the place was ideal for what we needed. Thank you! I'm sure we'll be back.

  • We have experienced wonderful time in Judi’s home together with her dogs. Judi is an amazing host, very nice, helpful and warm. Moreover, she bakes delicious bread on the morning! The room is very clean and tidy, we had a wonderful night there. The area is very close to York and you can have a morning jogging session in the nearby forest. Thanks, Judi, for your hospitality and take care!

  • Had a wonderful stay with Judi , she really is the perfect host. Made us feel at home from the minute we walked in the door, and an added bonus that she has two lovely friendly spaniels to great you as well. The bed was comfy, house was lovely and clean, and had everything we needed along with the added extras of nespresso pods, breakfast and treats for our little doggy pep. Great conversation whilst watching Strictly and lots of play time for the dogs. Thanks again Judi for making our stay so wonderful.

  • What a fantastic experience at Judi’s beautiful accommodation. The room was fantastic and the whole house was immaculate. Judi was extremely helpful and was full of advice and tips. Her dogs were playful and loved all of the cuddles and helped make the house a home. We were really impressed by everything Judi offered and she went above and beyond whenever she could. Well worth a stay :)

  • When it comes to hospitality, Judi has written the book! My husband and I stayed recently in Judi's stylish, warm and beautifully presented home, and felt welcome throughout our stay. Our bedroom was immaculate, the bed comfy, the decor elegant and there was no noise anywhere, all contributing to a great night's sleep. We never mind sharing a host's bathroom, and Judi is justifiably proud of her glorious body-soaking shower! It's a good job she had gone to work when we showered in the morning, or she would have heard me singing with pleasure! Judi is a kind and exceptional host who goes more then the extra mile to make her guests feel at home. We came down to fabulous, fat fluffy croissants for breakfast - which were another 'Judi Superhost' touch. We were so taken with Judi's warmth, generosity and genuine joy in sharing her home with Airbnb guests, and we will book again in future. Thank you Judi from us both. • Judi provided genuine hospitality and really tried hard to make sure our stay with her was perfect. We will travel to York often in the future and will now not need to look further than booking direct with her. Kettle in the bedroom was a thoughtful touch.
