** Winner of Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence** Standing imposingly in its own large garden, with heated outdoor pool and games barn, The Old Mill has been carefully refurbished to provide 7 floors of cutting edge design.
The Main house has a Master Suite with a Super King 4-Poster Bed, dressing room and luxurious en-suite with separate wet room shower and extra deep bath. Additionally in the main house there is a spacious double room with handmade oak bed, a contemporary triple room ( 3 single beds), and a Family room with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. The bunks in this room are suitable for children and lightweight adults only. In the Mill tower there is a stunning ground floor circular dining room, with glass walkway overhead, giving uninterrupted views above to the workings of The Old Mill. There are three charming circular double bedrooms on the third, fourth and fifth floors. 70 ft high on the seventh floor is the viewing tower, providing 360' spectacular views over beautiful Norfolk countryside. The bedrooms in the tower lead into each other with each staircase and therefore offer a reduced level of privacy.

  • The Old Mill was fantastic! It was a unique experience that my family will remember for many years to come. Sandra and her husband were responsive, kind and helpful!

  • A stunning place with real ‘WOW’ factor. You will be praised and thanked for finding this place! Even better than it looks in the pics! Fantastic for a group get together. Lots of space and all warm and comfortable. Superb dining room for a formal dinner plus extra space to eat informally. Great showers, comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. It will be hard to beat....

  • Great house with lovely spaces, we really enjoyed staying here.

    Lorna2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The old mill is a beautiful and unique place to stay. It was a perfect refuge from the weekend's storm, with lots of different seating areas , and a great open plan kitchen, easily big enough for everybody to be doing their own thing. Very comfortable beds in the range of bedrooms - privacy is an issue as noted in previous comments but worth it to stay somewhere so unusual. This was lovely for a february weekend break but would be amazing in the summer

    Kate2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The mill is an amazing place to stay. The property has been renovated to a very high standard I would highly recommend any one to stay at the old mill

    Gav2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We were a little nervous booking accommodation that would work effectively for 17 people, however the Old Mill was just superb. A classy development of an old and iconic venue that works very well indeed. The dining area at the base of the Mill was a real treat and worked wonderfully for our dinners and the kitchen area worked really well for the other meals. It is very well appointed and unique is lots of ways. It has plenty of space so you are not ever feeling cramped. One thing to consider is the intimacy of the three Mill Tower bedrooms that you have to talk through to get to a bathroom. They are beautiful but would probably need to be folks you know well to be comfortable with it. Sandra was a great host, accurate and timely communication , very reactive when we had a couple of challenges all of which was very helpful indeed. She also decorated the place beautifully for the Christmas celebration. This is an amazing venue for a large group, we would consider using it again. Thank you Sandra and Gary.

Bright, rustic, quaint: a self-contained and tranquil haven with views over the Norfolk countryside from sunny verandah. Kitchenette, microwave, gas hob; full-sized bath with shower head. Shared courtyard garden. Special mention...we have wonderful natural borehole water! Two lovely Vintage bicycles available to borrow. SPECIAL REQUEST: please can guests arrive between 2pm and 6pm on SATURDAYS. We are out later and like to see you in before we depart. Thanks.
A simple, cosy, tranquil space. Sunny verandah and little private place to watch the sun go down. Enclosed garden, ideal for children. Friendly cats, bats to watch at night, and maybe even the odd hen will come visiting...
The cabin is down a sandy track that leads to the river Thet with lovely views across the fields past an oak tree with swings. Very pleasant bicycling...close to Thetford Forest.
  • This is my second stay here and I absolutely loved it (again). The bed is so comfortable and the surroundings almost silent, except for the birds and the wind. I come here to study and write, and I get a huge amount done, but I also go home feeling rested and peaceful. I'm sure part of that is down to Robyn's home-made bread, which has magical properties. Thoroughly recommended.

    Carina2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice cosy cabin, we spent a night here with my wife and loved it, definitely recommend it.

Delicious homemade bread and free range eggs along with other ingredients provided for breakfast. The cabin was certainly cosy and beautifully decorated with vintage and quirky items. Would absolutely love to return. Thank you!

  • Liz's place is ideally located in a lovely rural location but close to the motorway. We stayed over on Saturday night to go to the Polar Express experience in Dereham on the Sunday, which was amazing! Perfect little space for us and our 6 6 year old. It was warm and cosy and had all kitchen facilities needed to make breakfast and lunch. Lovely walk to river thet nearby and world horse welfare with written instructions in the toolshed which we did in in the morning. Thanks for a great stay

"This place is stunning..." A warm welcome awaits you in our lovely village home, with three large bedrooms for our B&B guests, modern private bathroom, second shower room and a separate large and comfy guest sitting room with smart TV. Cooked breakfast included, plus superfast broadband and easy parking in private driveway. Country walks, cosy log stove and board games on colder nights. Lovely garden, table tennis, croquet and outdoor pool in summer. Period charm with a modern twist.
Note that we take only one Airbnb party at a time, and are happy to host any number from one to six! There are three spacious guest bedrooms, two doubles with king-size beds and one with twin single beds, which can interconnect with another bedroom (great if you're staying with children). If your booking involves three couples, the two single beds can be linked to make a 6ft double. We supply tea and coffee etc (plus kettle) upstairs in a charming sitting space between the two double bedrooms. There is also a large private sitting room (see 'guest access'). The house is Grade 2 Listed and is part 17th Century, part 18th Century and part 19th Century, but with all mod cons including superfast broadband. There is a contemporary bathroom with a great shower; this is not ensuite but it is for the private use of guests only. There is also a second shower room which is handy for larger groups. I should add that, because this is an old house, it's not particularly manageable for people with mobility issues, in that there are a few steps between the bedrooms and the bathrooms, and this can be a bit tricky for anyone who needs to use a stick.
The beautiful market town of Bury St Edmunds is only 15 minutes away by car, as is Thetford Forest in the other direction. And Cambridge is just an hour away. There are plenty of places to eat within a few miles (although not in the village itself) and a village shop just up the road plus several more a couple of miles away. The whole area is superb cycling country and there are some lovely Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves, such as Redgrave and Lopham Fen, a short drive away. I have put together a list of places to eat around here, including website addresses and post codes for your satnav. Please just ask me to email it to you if you would like to take a look before you come.
  • A great house, full of character, spacious and comfortable. Jane is a fantastic host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Amazing hospitality, Jane was exceptionally friendly and couldn't do enough for me. The room was comfortable and spacious. Would recommend to anyone.

  • Our stay at Jane and Roger’s was fantastic. I had a feeling when I booked it that it would be just what I was looking for and it was, and more. Jane and Roger went above and beyond ensuring we had a comfortable stay, even researching the closest car park to an event we were attending. Breakfast was just as good as previous reviewers have mentioned, scrumptious. The house is beautiful and Jane and Roger were the best hosts we could wish for.

  • Troston Lodge is the jewel in Suffolk's crown! Jane's house is a great place to stay, especially for groups: multiple bedrooms, private living area and a great breakfast in the morning. All at a reasonable rate! Jane has thoughtful touches with an extensive range of tea and coffee available and extras like hair dryers and ironing facilities. It was a comfortable stay with Jane and Roger being accommodating whilst allowing for us to have privacy. We shall be booking again to return in warmer weather - namely for the pool! Thank you Jane and Roger: what a wonderful home you have!

Featured in The Sunday Times in 2016, designed by Grand Designs finalist, and close to historic Cambridge, Ely, and Kings Lynn, and the unique Norfolk heritage coast. The Pumphouse overlooks the river Wissey at the edge of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Wissey Valley Living Landscape reserve. You cannot get closer to nature, or find a more secluded retreat. With 5 bedrooms, an interior spa, and a huge kitchen, this is the ideal place for a retreat, family reunion, party, or to get back to nature.
The Pumphouse is an isolated 'get back to nature' type place. Inside its industrial and contemporary with concrete, wood and brick. Outside there is the deck and barbeque, and then just nature. In front of you is the river bank with beautiful walks, and next to you is the nature reserve, teeming with birds. On the track down you will see every kind of animal, from deer to hares to geese and herons - it really is an escape. Once inside you are in comfortable easy to use space - spa, big screen TV with Sky, huge kitchen, and comfortable en-suite rooms. Enjoy....... Accommodation: Ground floor: open plan living room with dining table for up to 14 people, and large open plan kitchen. AV system and wood burning stove. French doors leading to the external decked terrace and barbeque. Bedroom 1 with king size bed, and en-suite shower room. Separate cloakroom. Entrance hall with coatrack and stairs to upper floors. Spa room with views to wilderness garden. First Floor: Bedrooms 2 and 3 – both with king size beds, en-suite shower rooms and separate W.C.’s Second floor: Bedrooms 4 and 5 – each bedroom has two standard single beds, and a day bed with an additional pull-out bunk, giving sleeping accommodation for between 2 and 4 people per room. Bathroom with roll top bath, W.C. and basin. The Pumphouse is prepared for up to 10 guests at the standard nightly hire rate. For parties of more than 10 up to the 14 limit we charge an additional fee per person per night. Those hiring The Pumphouse must tell us when booking how many guests they will be so that beds and linen can be provided, and that the correct fee may be charged. The Pumphouse is ideal for nature lovers. Located right in a corner of the new Wissey Valley Living Landscape wetland reserve, The Pumphouse is perfectly situated for bird watching, with numerous indigenous and migratory bird species literally 100m away. Gathering nectar and pollen from the local shrubs and wildflowers, we have 3 colonies of bees living in beehives along the edge of our land next to the wetlands.
Hilgay is rural village set off the A10 just outside Downham Market. The ancient towns of Kings Lynn to the north and Ely to the south are each a 25 minutes away by car, whilst Cambridge is accessible in 45 minutes. Downham Market is a 1 hour a 20 minute direct train ride from London Kings Cross, and then 10 minutes in cab. To the north and east of Hilgay is the glorious Norfolk heritage coast, with a fabulous mixture of beaches and saltings, atmospheric coastal towns and villages, and a rich and varied range of outdoor activities to suit visitors of all ages and interests. And all around are the vestiges of the ancient fenlands. The fens, made famous by Herewood the Wake, baffled and defeated incomers for centuries, and provided sanctuary and sustenance for the local people until they were finally drained in the nineteenth century. Local landowners employed the skills of the Dutch and the muscles of the Irish navies to dyke the rivers and cut drains through the low-lying fens so that the rich dark soil could be tilled or grassed to produce food for Great Britain’s growing urban population. This Pumphouse is a reminder of this most recent chapter in the history of the fens. Hilgay has a wonderful traditional butcher and grocery shop, a pub, and a farm shop and restaurant. Within a five minute drive are the ‘Boatman’ at Denver sluice, the various restaurants of Downham Market, and for an evening treat the gastro-pub ‘The Hare Arms’ a Stow Bardolph. If you are interested in private catering at the property, previous guests have highly recommended Avril, a local Norfolk chef who can be contacted via www.chef2dine4.co.uk.
  • The Pumphouse is a wonderful location for a gathering of friends or family. The living and dining areas are comfortable and functional (and very stylish!) - we loved it. The kitchen is spacious with most items that you could possibly want. The bedrooms are bright and airy and the bathrooms clean and, again, simple but stylish. There a lovely big hallway with plenty of room for wet coats and boots. We also found the living areas and bedrooms to be plenty warm enough. We didn't use the spa and it was too cold and windy to sit outside, but I'm tempted to come back in the summer to try them out. There's also a chair down next to the river which, on a warm summer's evening, I'm sure has my name on it. We were a group of wildlife enthusiasts and were thrilled to be so close to the wetland and river - visible even from the windows. Whilst pottering around we saw barn owls, cranes, great white egret, kingfisher, lapwing, marsh harrier and lots more. There were also lots of signs of otters on the river banks. I hope that we will be back one day to try and spot the otters themselves. Thank you David for a lovely stay.

  • The PumpHouse beats all expectations based on the pictures on here. A stunning place to stay for a relaxing time away. We came as a group of 8 friends and really enjoyed our stay here. We may revisit with friends or family again. Once again, thank you David!

  • This place is absolutely amazing. The location is stunning, the kitchen and communal space is one of the nicest I have ever been in and the whole house is so beautifully and thoughtfully designed. Everyone who came along for my birthday trip there was blown away with the place and it was the perfect retreat for a few days. David was easy to communicate with and incredibly accommodating and provided us with tips for things to do in the local area.

    Andrew2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place is wonderful - the location, hospitality, communication and the house itself are beyond expectation. We can’t wait to go back soon!

  • The pump house is an amazing house & it’s such a beautiful setting. Great for large gathering & celebrations. My daughter had best birthday. Thank you

    Kelly2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay in a beautifully restored pump house. We were 12 adults sharing the space and it was very comfortable. The house is much bigger than it looks in the pictures. The communal spaces were perfect for playing board games etc. and sky sports on the tv meant that we could watch the footy! The rooms are all decorated very nicely and there’s plenty of bathrooms. The spa was a lovely rest spot after long walks and has a great view. David is a lovely host and very responsive which made me feel very reassured before and during our stay. We have quite a few dead flies on the top floor but we thought this was most likely due to being close to water and it didn’t affect our stay. All in all we would love to come back one day and stay again at this beautiful house!

If you like fishing; fantastic carp tench bream roach & crucians that average 2lb in village pond but respect the local residents some treat the fish like their pets and I understand why. Pleasant drive to Kings Lynn and the wonderful north Norfolk coast.. Helpful, friendly owners even bough us home made jam and scones mmm. Spent a wonderful afternoon going round the open gardens in the village. Will go back "An English country retreat" We had an absolutely delightful stay in the Old School House and can't recommend it enough. It's location in the village of Wereham is stunning - it overlooks the village pond, across from the church and opposite the pub. A perfect English village setting. The property is extremely comfortable and spacious - it has attractive decor throughout and plenty of equipment. Many places we've stayed tend only to cater for basic needs but the owners seem to have thought of everything. This area of Norfolk is largely ignored and yet there 's much to explore. King's Lynn, Swaffham, Thetford, Ely and the North Norfolk coast a little further afield. The National Trust property of Oxburgh Hall is a nearby gem too. However if peace and quiet is what you need you'll find it here. We'll be back. "Great Value" Roomy, comfortable and well-appointed accommodation in a chocolate-box English village setting. I was really impressed by the facilities and equipment available. There are plenty of touristy places to visit within reasonable driving distance. The house has plenty of room and is very well-priced, especially for a large group - a club break, family reunion holiday, retreat etc. The wood-burning stove and stock of games and books make it an enjoyable place to stay even on a cold wet day. ‘Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. It was truly stunning . What a view and location’ . ‘You have created a magical place’ ‘We had an amazing time in your house. It is really beautiful and perfect for entertaining’ ‘House very spacious and the pics on the internet do not do it justice’ ‘House is so well equipped, every kitchen utensil you could possible need’’ ‘Pub super, very friendly.’ ‘Pub allowed us to take our dog in and made friends with all the locals Guest have all of the House exclusively available to them for their stay. Arrival usually from 4pm and departure by 10am Let for minimum of 3 nights. (2 night breaks may be possible. Please message). Front door key is in key safe so you can let yourself in and make yourself at home. We live next door and if we are around we will try to welcome you personally. We or other neighbours are always happy to chat and advise on local area if needed. Lovely friendly village House situated by village pond and opposite lovely pub with good food served Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Public transport not very frequent so car strongly recommended. Lots of parking by village pond so no limit to number of cars that can be parked. Damage deposit of £100 (£500 for lets longer than 4 weeks) required.Returned after let. Bookings are for minimum of 3 nights. (5 nights at Christmas and New Year)p
Lovely friendly village House situated by village pond and opposite lovely pub Pub has been complimented regularly by guest as really friendly, welcomes families, children, dogs. Has good menu. Lovely dog walks from the house Fishing permitted in village pond
  • Lovely weekend in the old school house. A very warm welcome with some thoughtful touches. We thought the place was full of character, spacious, warm and comfortable. Everything we needed and more was available. Picturesque setting with a great pub nearby. Highly recommended. Thank you.

  • Booked this place on the day that we needed it, on the off chance that the owner would see the booking. Ian called me straight away completely putting my mind at ease. He was wonderfully helpful every step of the way and a pleasure to deal with in every sense. The place itself is straight out of a story book, on a little pond with ducks and swans, opposite a picturesque little pub. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

  • Great place, lovely scenery and local area, close to king's lynn.

    Abi2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant house which perfectly suited us as a group of three small families, with a great sized kitchen and living area. Lots of baby equipment which came in handy too. Location right by duck pond is lovely and there are lots of good forest walks nearby as well as a small children's playground in the village. Ian was a very generous host, the house was decorated for Christmas and there was a bottle of prosecco, biscuits and chocolates waiting for us. He also came round to fill our glasses during Wereham's new year fireworks which was a lovely touch!

  • Wonderful house in a perfect location. A very relaxing stay. Fantastic host.

    Natalie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely family break at the old school house. The house is lovely and in a great location with beautiful views. The local pub was very cosy and welcoming too!

  • We came here for the weekend to celebrate a 40th birthday. We had a wonderful time. The house was amazing, sparkly clean, lovely and warm and lots of extra special touches. We were greeted on arrival by the hosts who were lovely and left us milk in the fridge and Prosecco and chocolates on the table which the kids loved. The view over the duck pond was lovely. We hope to return again soon. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely House with a real feel of a small town, great living space big enough for entertaining everyone. Great tips of things to do in the local area and more enough to keep everyone happy. Would definitely recommend staying here as Ian is a great host and more than happy to help out if needed.

As we moved to Brandon in December, we can give guests an outsiders overview. To us Brandon is a lovely Town, surrounded by Thetford Forest. Brandon has it's own Railway Station, which we both use frequently taking us into Cambridge, in only 35 minutes. In a short car journey you could be at the Norfolk coast. Generally a very quiet town, but definitely with lots to offer in the surrounding area. So far we have tried the Italian restaurant Mondragone and the Brandon Tandoori, which we have found to be friendly, serving good food.
  • Make sure you visit! Great location and awesome hosts :)

  • Lovely little lodge in a nice quiet spot. Perfect for a night away to relax and unwind. Lodge was immaculate and had everything we needed.

  • Tracy and Marcus are wonderfully accommodating hosts and Duke Lodge is perfect for a quick get away. Location is perfect and the sweet little chalet was spotlessly clean and super comfy. Checking in was incredibly easy and everything we needed was thought of.

The Old Fire Station is charming, quaint and quirky. The building has had a varied life ! Originally built to house the town Fire Pump - later converted to the town conveniences !! and later used as a council store. It is strategically placed in the heart of the town, amid all the hustle and bustle.
The space is fully equipped with everything you would need for a 'break away'.
It is quite quirky staying in the old town Fire Station !
  • Great place. Clean and cosy. It has excellent amenities and the host is outstanding.

    Ian2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cozy place in town with all the amenities. We had a wonderful stay here, it was hard to leave!

    Joan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely beautiful, set right in the area of Thetford forest. Gwyneth has thought of everything and it really does feel like home from home. I couldnt have asked for more from Gwyneth as a host. Thankyou

    Allan2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous base for Thetford and beyond. Cosy and really well appointed.

    Zoe2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • When you look from outside, you cannot believe how nice is the inside. It is a tiny studio apartment but tastefully decorated. A very comfortable bed. Everything sparkly clean and good quality. She had a bottle of wine and nice flowers waiting for me at my arrival. I enjoyed staying at Gwyneth's place. However, if you are a light sleeper it is not a place for you. The place has no noise insulation. For a small town the place is on the main street it has lots of semi trucks traveling from one end to another. Also, there is no place to keep your clothes in other than hanging the clothes on the wall. Overall, it is a very clean place in a proximity to everything in the city. Brandon is a nice little town. Thank you Gwyneth for your nice touch and great hospitality.

    Emine2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely property, with everything you need and more. The thoughtful touches, flowers and a bottle of wine were very kind. The property is clean, compact and everything you need from a dishwasher to the huge tv. The location is great and we were able to leave the car on the local car park and catch the train to Cambridge, Ely and Norwich, with the train station just a 10 minute walk away. Two supermarkets are nearby, plus local shops pubs and restaurants, it’s really in a handy place for everything. I have no hesitation in recommending the property and the prompt correspondence with Gwyneth when booking.

    Jean2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice, cozy little place in a quiet town which makes a great base for exploring the area. The property was clean and well equipped. Check-in was easy and Gwyneth was quick to answer any questions.

  • Julie was very accommodating, he responses were very quick and helpful. The flat it self was just what we wanted! (Up 3 flights of stairs so not so good for people that may struggle with that) but the whole building was beautiful! Some really quirky touches that were lovely! The flat had a freestanding bath which was amazing (the shower was a bit temperamental so don’t bank on washing long hair every time) the space in the flat was perfect! A big kitchen & big lounge that was very cosy & well decorated, some board games for a nice extra touch too! The bedrooms were nice too & the garden looked amazing. We stayed there for a trip to Elveden AquaSpa & was a perfect location. Thanks Julie we will def be coming back :)

Plenty of bed space- we ended up using both bedrooms due to one of us being a bit poorly and didn't want to pass it onto the little one but this could sleep 6. stair gate was great and bathroom is huge. host is easy to contact and met us at the door. great parking and right next to lidl which is handy. Towels were also provided which was a nice touch as i had forgotten mine. Very peaceful and quiet.

Our place is close to everything in the town-centre. Very close. You’ll love it's separate hidden cosiness. Smallish but unusual, with own wc/wet-room. Has cuppa-kit, light self-serve breakfast goods, a toaster, microwave & chiller. The annex is good for contractors, business travellers, couples & solo adventurers. Weekends are usually blocked, but your stay may be continued into the weekend on request.
The entry to my home is thru an old building - where you'll be staying. The main picture shows the passageway, with the doors to the room and wetroom. The doors open away from each other, meaning you can pass between invisibly - my kitchen window (mainly behind leaves) is the only one which looks directly on to the annex. Use an entry code to come & go as you wish. Don't be fazed by the lack of windows on the outside - it really is here!
Thetford is a very historic town. There are museums, Dad's Army tours, and High Lodge Thetford Forest Adventure Park (Go Ape, Cycle Trails, Concerts, more) 5 miles away There's a nightclub, cinema and half-dozen pubs within a few minutes walk. There's plenty of eateries minutes if not seconds away, and there's a European supermarket open til 10pm yards away. It's town-centre, but mostly quiet, being enclosed by walls. On the edge of Thetford Forest and at rivers convergence, there's a lot of nature to be found with just a short walk.

    Alex2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is quirky but cosy! The room is well supplied with a chiller, microwave, toaster and plenty of cereal. Although only heated by a plug in heater, it stayed really warm despite some really nasty wintery conditions. The shower in the wet room downstairs was great - lots of water pressure and really hot. The alley you need to go down was very dark, so get your phone torch ready if you arrive after sunset! Karen was there to meet me despite me turning up an hour early and was very welcoming, and also provided a little guide to the accommodation in the room to explain the ins-and-outs. The room is right in the middle of town so convenient for the town centre shops and also close to the river, which is pretty to walk along. All in all this was great place to stay and really good value. I hope to be back! Thanks Karen!

    Katherine2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s place is in a great location, right in the centre of town. It’s a cute annex and nice and secluded and quiet. We had our own private access and our own shower room. And she was super helpful throughout our stay! We’d definitely stay here again!

  • What a cute cottage close to Lakenheath and the Thetford forest. Loved having a kitchen, washer/dryer, great heating throughout house, wood burning fireplace, and comfortable twin beds. Place can sleep 4-6 but there’s only 1 bathroom which for me was perfect! I also had a little sink in the roo With the twin beds which was perfect for teeth-brushing. Go to Joseph’s for an awesome pizza on the high street, veg or non-veg! and say “hi” to friendly Mark when buying your veggies at rhe thurs and sat am farmer’s market a 3 min walk feom the cottage. And i loved being close To Brandon County Park with many guided hikes. Amazon packages can be delivered to the “the big factory store” down the street.

  • Definitely the comfiest airbnb I've ever stayed in! It was beautifully decorated, clean and warm. The addition of a few kitchen items, namely a fridge, microwave, oven and hob were all really welcome, as I like to cook for myself when I'm away. I really recommend David's place and I will certainly be back.

  • For a family stopover this is an ideal place. We stayed the night before we went to Elveden Forest Centerparcs. There is an Aldi supermarket right next door, so absolutely ideal. The room / suite of rooms was spacious, warm, comfortable, and Julie has thought of everything you might need for an overnight stay. The mini fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle were a bonus. There's even a table and chairs you can fold out to eat supper / breakfast. We felt like we had struck gold! Also great value for money. And off-road parking space not mentioned on AirBnB.

  • Angela and Kevin are a wonderful host, perfect home which is close to Bury St. Edmunds. Due to unavoidable reason, I had to check in late in the night, which kind of put their weekend plan in jeopardy. Despite which she ensured I had comfortable stay at their place and moreover next day morning, they even offered continental breakfast too. And on top of that I was getting delayed for my appointment, Angela without any hesitation offered me to drop and ensured I reached the venue on time. There was no need for them to go the extra mile and drop me on a sunday morning, which was almost 4 miles away. Overall I had a memorable stay at St. Giles Cottage, their warm hospitality is definitely the highlight, which made this weekend always remain special in my memory. Thanks again Angela & Kevin.

  • Jasmine is very helpful and kind owner, the house is comfy and clean, and is easy to go anywhere, the biscuit and chocolate are so good.

    Cathy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • So many thoughtful touches in this lovely home including a basket of goodies and chocolates upon our arrival. We were greeted by an enthusiastic and friendly host, Jasmine who introduced us to the annexe which was very clean, warm and extremely comfortable. We were pleased to see a good sized bathroom with fluffy towels and a good sized bedroom with a very comfortable super king bed. Even though the location is in a quiet village with parking outside the front door, it was still central to the town of Thetford and Tesco supermarket within easy driving distance. Jasmine was very quick to respond to any queries, even offering places for us to visit during our stay during winter. We also appreciated her changing the linen and towels midway through our two week visit. A wonderful fortnight exploring Norwich. Would highly recommend the Butterflies Annexe.

  • Julie was a great host! A fabulously renovated property in the middle of Brandon. Brand new bed and memory foam mattress was deliciously comfortable. Julie was great with local eating houses, the Brandon Tandoori was an excellent curry. Our own coffee stuff in the room and kettle made an easy getaway in the morning possible. Thank you for a comfy night Julie!

  • Julie allowed us to take over her home for our daughter's wedding preparations. The day of the wedding started calmly but inevitably ended in a mad rush, leaving her with the debris of our breakfast to clear up! Felt bad about that but we were already leaving 30 mins late! Really appreciated her laid back, relaxed attitude. Her home is a lovely space to spend some time.

This little Shepherd hut is fully equipped to offer a base to explore the surrounding area. The village is quintessentially English ! Small church - Village green - a handful of houses - more horses than people - very quiet.
We can offer a spare bed for those travelling with children. it is a funky blow up mattress with bedding. Inflated in a minute !! Amazing to watch. Just let us know if you would like the extra bed. You get a hot tub tooooo .. for a small fee !
It is a small village and no pub or shop for 4 miles. please make sure to bring some provisions with you !
  • The perfect get away from our city jobs! The hut was cosy, excellently equipped, and exactly what we were hoping for.

The shepherd's hut was well equipped and the decor was very modern and stylish! It was like being in your own private space and you would have never known there was anyone around! Felt very relaxed in the hot tub without being overlooked. I would 100% recommend adding the hot tub onto your stay. One thing I would say is that the Wifi doesnt reach inside of the shepherd's hut but it does while in garden area, however this didnt affect our stay. I always had quick responses from the host whenever i had a question to ask. I will be recommending Piano Forte to everyone and will be returning.

  • Such a lovely little cabin. My girlfriend and I enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at Piano Forté. Great hot tub, quiet, peaceful, clean, private and cosy. Highly recommend it!

  • Very romantic little spot. Although there are two other properties on the site Piano Forte was very private and exclusive. We felt very comfortable and hidden away-which was lovely. Hot tub is perfect and very clean! The seating areas and ‘hut’ outside are a lovely touch too. We couldn’t get the WiFi to connect inside the cabin at all unfortunately, however 4G (provider EE) worked fine throughout the cabin, and WiFi worked OK outside in certain spots. Unless your avid walkers you definitely need a car/taxis to get around. Closet town was around a 5/10 minute drive but very easy to get to. We were provided with a bottle of wine in the cabin on arrival which was a very kind extra touch! It’s a small cosy space which we throughly enjoyed.

  • It was the perfect retreat for a relaxing few days away! Definitely book the hot tub too! Perfect beyond belief xx

Modern barn conversion in grade 2 listed building. Occupies one corner of a large gated, enclosed courtyard garden at Lackford Lakes Barns. We are located within The Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve. Well Cottage has a large self contained garden at the back which is for the exclusive use of Well Cottage.
Situated in Lackford Lakes Nature reserve this grade 2 listed barn conversion has all the advantages of a modern conversion and character of the old. Only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds we are also close to Newmarket, Cambridge and the Suffolk coast.
We are surrounded by Lackford Lakes Nature reserve but only 5 miles from historic Bury St Edmunds where there’s lots to see an do. Market day is Saturday and Wednesday. Bury has a Georgian theatre, cathedral and a brewery which are all worth a visit.
  • An idyllic, off-the-beaten-path, retreat smack in the middle of the Suffolk countryside made for a relaxing vacation for our family. There was activities aplenty in the area, from the reserve with its bird watching walks, to the beaches along the coastline, and the lovely villages dotting the neighbouring regions. We'll be sure to return...

  • Well cottage was a beautiful place to escape to and enjoy the peaceful Suffolk countryside. The barn was much more spacious than I had anticipated and was excellently furnished with everything we could possibly need. The underfloor heating kept us lovely and warm even on a rainy day! The location is so peaceful and private but also fantastic for young children as it is just a quick walk down the driveway to get to Lackford Lakes (splashing in puddles along the way!) where we spent many an hour simply exploring the woodlands (including the mud kitchen and playing on the wooden climbing area) and warming up in the cafe afterwards. My daughters (4&2) also loved visiting the Anglo Saxon village (West Stow) for the morning - only a 5 minute drive up the road and v cheap - and Undley farm for Halloween festivities. The games room was a fantastic bonus to fill a rainy hour and the laundry room meant we came home with minimal jobs to do upon our return! We will definitely consider returning to Lackford Lakes Barns when visiting my grandmother who lives in Bury again. Thank you for a lovely half term week.

Short distance away from Newmarket, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds and Ely with its beautifull Cathedral.

A compimentary continental breakfast is available on request, bought to your room where there is a small table and two chairs. The person to speak to is Sonja. Wishing you a very warm welcome.😊
