Places to stay in Bishop Auckland

Places to stay in Bishop Auckland
The Regent's Chambers is a marvellous and comfortable place to stay, with super king beds, Netflix & Amazon Video, board games, self check-in and breakfast ingredients (except for milk!). There's a garden for relaxing in during nice weather (it happens!) and a real home-from-home feeling. There's free parking just outside the flat and it's a five minute walk into town (explore the castle and new gallery spaces), ten min to the station and ten min to Kynren. Durham is just a half hour away.
The kitchen is country style, with oak worktop and cream cabinets. It's fully stocked with basic necessities (tea selection, real coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, spices and herbs). There is also bread, spreads and cereals on offer (though you need to bring milk). The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Don't worry if you forget your shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as it's all provided for you. There are two big bedrooms with super king size beds and pillowtop mattresses, very soft 400 thread count sheets and feather pillows. The living room has a 49" Smart TV with freeview. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat has its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. There's a large double sofabed (14cm full double memory foam mattress) and a single daybed (3000 pocket pillowtop mattress). Both beds are super comfy and have lots of pillows and cushions for maximum cosiness. There are double curtains in the bedrooms and living room, which all look out onto the street - the voile is to ensure privacy (but still lets in the light) plus lined blackout curtains on top. The flat is on the ground floor so it's more accessible for people with limited mobility, but note there are three shallow steps up to the front door so it's not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is easy - there's lots available on Etherley Lane and though there are single yellow lines around the corners there are no other restrictions (except don't park in front of other people's houses as it annoys the neighbours!). It's best to park just outside the side gate on Etherley Lane, where you first check in. During Kynren days there is parking enforcement on the street but parking permits are provided in the flat for you to use. You can use smart check in to get into the flat with a code I give you at booking, so you can arrive whenever is convenient, even in the small hours of the morning. Have a lovely stay!
Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop Auckland is a bustling market town in the Vale of Durham, standing high above a meander in the River Wear with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Walk fifteen minutes from the flat straight into the beautiful grounds of the magnificent Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for more than 900 years. And don't miss the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place in the castle grounds every April. It's AMAZING. Surrounding the Castle are the 800 acres of the Bishop's Deer Park - a great place for a summer picnic or an autumnal stroll through vividly coloured parkland. It's open all year round and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town is set for major developments over the next few years, with a new welcome building at Auckland Castle, a new Museum extension, an institute of Spanish art and culture, and the redevelopment of the 17th Century Walled Garden which will feature stunning new glasshouses providing 'garden rooms' restaurant and event spaces. The town burst into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches presented the first season of ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ - the £31 million open-air live action night show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the summer. Kynren returns in 2017 to take audiences on an epic storytelling journey through 2,000 years. Bishop Auckland's historic town centre has a thriving arts and cultural offering, with the Bishop Auckland Town Hall home to a superb library, cinema, theatre and arts complex. Plus, the town has more than 200 shops - head for Bondgate for boutiques and specialist shops that you won’t find on the high street. A mile from the town are the remains of Binchester Roman Fort, home to the best preserved Roman military bath house in Britain. And at Escomb, you can see one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe at the restored 7th Century Escomb Saxon Church. It's one of the first churches in the whole of the UK, so not really one to miss. Don't forget also the National Shildon Railway Museum for train enthusiasts. Shildon was pretty much the birthplace of railways so do please go and check out an engine or two. Bishop Auckland is very well placed for trips to lots of local castles, the North Pennines and day trips to Durham (half hour drive).
  • Good location near town centre. Great comfortable space. Comfy beds.

  • I only stayed at Emma’s for one night, in preparation for an Exam I had in Bishop Auckland. It was the perfect place to stay to relax and get myself ready. I can see that this apartment would be great for larger groups too, including families, looking to get away and have some quality time.

  • The Regent's Chambers was a lovely flat and had all the amenities we needed. Emma was a fantastic host with great communication and a very handy check in video! The flat is about a 5min walk from the main high street and there's two big supermarkets a few minutes further. The town was lovely though it was just a shame we couldn't get out and about much because of the storm. If you're eating in Bishop Auckland I definitely recommend Beedles Chippy and Panda Panda. We managed to make a quick stop (40mins away) in the North Pennines on our drive back home. If you only have a little bit of time, I highly recommend the High Force falls. It was absolutely stunning and feels like you've been transported to somewhere in North America! I wish we could have spent a lot longer there!

  • A great place to stay if you’re in the area. All we needed and more. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit.

  • Lovely accommodation plenty of space for a large family. Very comfortable beds.

    Julia2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for an evening for a work trip, it was in an ideal location for us. It is quite a big space and could have definitely stayed for more than one day. Garden is secure if you have a dog, cannot hear much noise from the flat above. Nice little touches like cereals, butter, bread which you dont get from many air b and b's. Thanks Emma

Set in a conservation area of Bishop Auckland, this spacious and welcoming flat is in a great location for visits to Auckland Castle, exploring the Pennines and visits to Durham. Kynren is also a short walk away. After a great day out come back to the gorgeous, light-filled rooms, cosy fireplace, comfortable sofas, speedy internet, super king size beds and spa bath. Couples, individuals, business travellers and families with kids (any age) are all very welcome.
The flat has two large bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for your belongings. The super king size beds (6ft wide), one with 2000 Pocket Spring Memory Foam Mattress and the other with 3000 Pocket Pillow Top Spring Mattress will give you a restful night's sleep. In the sizable living room, the comfy full double sofa bed with memory foam mattress is accompanied by the chaise longue, cosy armchair and mahogany dresser and corner cabinet. The 49" 4K smart TV is in the corner, connected to the fastest internet available in the area (up to 74Mb) and a TalkTalk TV Box allowing you to pause and rewind 80 freeview channels. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat comes with its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. The sofa bed is a full double memory foam fold-out version, so no uncomfortable crease down the middle that you get with clic-clac beds. There is plenty of storage for your clothes and belongings in the dresser, allowing you to properly unpack as you wish. In addition to the usual central heating (new radiators installed throughout), there is the very cosy gas fire in the living room, which is easy to operate and comes with children's safe guard for those of you with little ones coming to visit. The heating is easily controlled throughout the flat with a Nest thermostat - which also means the apartment will be nice and warm ready for your arrival. If you prefer more tropical temperatures there are also three electric heaters in both the bedrooms and living room. The dining kitchen is well stocked, both with essentials and with good cooking equipment. There are pots and pans of course, but there's also a slow cooker, steamer, weighing scale and juicer. When you arrive you will find real coffee for the cafetiere and a selection of teas. Herbs and oil are also included. The kitchen has a slimline dishwasher and washing machine too, which will help a lot for those intending to stay longer than a couple of days. There is bread in the freezer, plus a selection of spreads and cereals. The fridge has a water dispenser, butter and a bottle of prosecco! (You will need to bring your own milk, though). The bathroom has a corner bath with whirlpool jets. There is a standing shower (in the bath) so the bathroom is great for a quick shower before work or for long, luxurious bathing! There is a backyard too for some outdoor, private space away from the street. This is shared with the flat below, which is also airbnb. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions :)

  • We had a great stay. Emma had everything you needed in the place and was a great host. A lovely flat and very easy to get to from the station. Thanks for having us!

  • As so many previous reviewers have said, this is a huge flat which manages to be super toasty. It's a short walk into the town centre which is well served with shops, cafes. takeaways etc as well as some new cultural attractions. We didn't have a bad meal in Bishop Auckland, and would give a special mention to the cafe at the castle: you have to have a ticket for the castle to enter, however the Auckland pass is valid from purchase until the end of 2020, and we'll most certainly be trying to arrange a return visit. Fifteas in the town centre was also a big hit with our children who really enjoyed their 'afternoon tea'. In the flat we loved the electronic lock and nest heating controls: we didn't use the cooking facilities much as there's too many great local eateries to try, but everything was clean and it was a great budget friendly place to stay.

  • Jimmy and Anita’s farm was a great Airbnb find. Spacious accommodation, warm and spotlessly clean. Very well equipped with some provisions left for us . A real home from home. Wish we had time to say longer.

    Joan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is not far from the roadside and it is easy to find. Except for the smell of the decoration, the owner was very attentive. The picture books and toys for children are very good. The beds were enough and comfortable. The house is very spacious and the view outside is also very beautiful. I hope to have the opportunity to go back for the weekend in the future.

  • Great location on a farm near Crook in County Durham. Absolutely quiet and very dark at night. On my two nights, the starry sky was stunning. The house is among a group of others on a working farm. It's also off the main road, so very peaceful. I found it a great place to escape from London for couple of days and to explore the surrounding countryside. Check in was easy, WiFi was fast and reliable. Parking adjacent to the house was safe and secure. Nice to have an oven and hobs to cook, a decent large fridge freezer and microwave - perfect for making your own meals. Lots of local info in leaflets in the house too.

Our cosy & comfortable cottage is set beside the village green within a short walk of a fantastic local country pub and Hamsterley Forest popular with Mountain bikers and walkers alike. Enjoy a short stay or a long holiday with all usual creature comforts! Well behaved dogs/children are more than welcome.
Cosy village cottage with open fire and exposed stone walls, comfortable furnishings, ideal for couples, small family or small group of friends. Washing machine available for washing you clothes from muddy walks, wet bike rides etc. Fully equipped shower room and kitchen and living room with real open fire to warm up in the evenings.
A lovely rural village with friendly people, a great local country pub serving real ales and home cooked food, the forest is within walking distance and the cottage has great access to the outdoors, walks, bike rides and dog walks. OS maps can be borrowed from us to plan activities and we'll help with advice on local attractions wherever possible.
  • Dani is a fantastic host. The cottage is very cosy and she left lots of lovely little touches everywhere. From the fully stocked supplies for the fire to breakfast in the fridge. We really enjoyed our time here and hope to stay again! Nothing was too much trouble and she was quick to respond when I had a query. The locations was great, close to the forest and walking distance to the local pub. Thanks again Dani! :)

    Lola2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage has a lot of rustic charm with exposed beams and an open fire. It has all the facilities you would need as well as nice touches like fuel for the fire (which was alight when arrived !) and breakfast items for you first morning. The village is very quiet with just a pub (good beer and good food) a couple of minutes walk away.

    Jerry2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy, cute, warm and lovely little house. Spent a very nice night in a great little part of Co. Durham. It felt like home.

    Emma2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage, having the real fire was a lovely treat, as it was really cold on the night time. The host even left us some supplies to make breakfast. Would definitely recommend this place.

    Wayne2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little one bed cottage in a lovely little village. Local pub close by and dog friendly. Having a lit fire when we arrived was amazing, thank you. Added extras were great also, like breakfast items and bathroom essentials like wipes etc. We had a great 2 night break away with our daughter and dogs. Host very responsive and helpful.

    Ashley2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Dani’s cottage is the perfect location for a peaceful break. It definitely saved us from the Christmas madness. Everything about this place eludes charm. From start to finish Dani couldn’t have been more helpful. From walking in to a lit open fire helping warm us on a cold day, to exploring the quaint cottage to find more thoughtful touches like fresh milk and bread and the Christmas decorations; everything was perfect. The ideal setting for walkers and dog owners.

WALKING DISTANCE TO KYNREN IDEAL ALTERNATIVE TO A HOTEL for anyone working in the area. This beautifully fitted two bedroom first floor apartment is situated in the centre of Bishop Auckland. All amenities, bars, and shops are within walking distance, very well located as a base for lots of sight seeing including: the seaside, the Lake District, Hamsterley forest , Durham City and not forgetting Bishop Aucklands castle and Kynren.
Would be good accommodation for anyone working in the area , giving plenty of home comforts instead of a hotel . There are two double bedrooms, both with crisp fresh bedding for a very comfortable nights sleep, small kitchen area and generous size lounge , The bathroom has a bath with a shower over it . All brand new fittings, carpets and decor . The apartment offers cosy accommodation for 4 adults and has 1 designated parking space in the entrance courtyard. All basic essentials are included.
The biggest thing for the location is the walking distance access to Kyren the fantastic medieval show which is an outdoor epic tale of England this has proved to be very popular along with viewing tower in the marketplace and Bishop Auckland Castle. There are some very popular tea shops in the marketplace and some very nice places to eat on an evening just a very short drive away.

  • An absolute gem of a property, fresh smelling, beautifully clean, warm and with cosy beds. Friendly communication, a great stay.

  • This is an absolute gem of a place to stay. Quite unexpected. Nigel and Ashley are fantastic hosts. The flat is immaculate and was lovely and warm when we arrived (Nov 2019) There was even milk, bread, butter and jam, plus cereal there. Very tastefully decorated. Very impressed. Highly recommended. When your sat nav says you have arrived at your destination, ignore it. Drive straight on, to the left of the shopping centre car park and straight down to almost the bottom. Just past the last lamp post on the left, is a set of gates. Drive in there for access to the property and park in one of the spaces. It was the easiest way to find it, thanks to Nigel. I can't recommend the property enough and Bishop Auckland has a lot to offer.

Light, spacious and airy ground floor flat in a perfect location for Kynren. The flat has full amenities for a comfortable stay including a washing machine and fully equipped kitchen. We will do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
The flat has a large double bedroom, living room with sofa-bed, dining area, kitchen, and bathroom with a shower. It is a very spacious flat for 2 adults but is still very comfortable for a family or 4 adults. Access is disabled friendly due to the ground floor location immediately next to the car park. There is CCTV for the block of flats which covers the car park and doorways and any vehicles parked can be seen from the flat.
The flat is situated within the town. It is a short 5-10 minute walk to the hospital and Supermarkets and a very pleasant 20 minute walk to the centre of the town. In the opposite direction it is a 30 minute walk to a retail park with a range of shops. The town has a beautiful castle and lots of events throughout the year including the spectacular Kynren. The city of Durham is approximately a 25 minute drive and Newcastle is approximately a 45 minute drive.

  • This is our third stay at David and Lynn’s home. Their home is a perfect family getaway. With all the basic comforts and more, it’s ideal for a holiday. Easy access to public transport makes for a trouble free holiday. There’s plenty to do in town: walks by the river, castle and museum visits. Stanley Jefferson is a nice place for a meal with children ( kids are allowed until 21:00 hrs). Gregory’s and Chittocks were two nice local groceries. The coffee shop at the railway station has good breakfast.

    Jason2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Loads of space. Water pressure amazing for shower (and kitchen). Fantastic communication with hosts Emma and David. Really quick and accurate. Thank you so much, we had a good time. Recommend Gabrielle’s for dinner, walkable along the high street.

  • Great little cottage, ideally located for walking into the developing centre of Bishop Auckland. Fantastic location for visiting Kynren either by foot for the energetic or close to the bus station for the less so. It is a recent purchase by the owners so it will develop as time allows.

  • We had a very pleasant stay and the location is very good - short walking distance into town. The house is very cosy and they have everything you need in the kitchen for an easy home from home stay. Lynn/David also provide basic things like bread, porridge, milk, tea and coffee which helped on arrival a lot from a long drive :) Thank you very much again

****PLEASE SEND ME AN ENQUIRY IF YOU WISH TO STAY HERE - EG FOR SELF ISOLATION AS THE CALENDAR IS FLUID, PRICES WILL BE REDUCED AND I ALSO HAVE OTHER PROPERTIES IN THE AREA*** Welcome to Bishop’s Rest, a recently refurbished 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom terraced house, located a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Bishop Auckland in County Durham.
Welcome to a 3-bedroom terraced house that has recently been refurbished and furnished from top to bottom. As soon as you walk in, hopefully you’ll see the care and attention to detail that’s gone into making this property a modern and comfortable place to stay. The main living space is open plan, with one half given over to the large sofa and twin armchairs and the home’s wall-mounted smart TV. You can access Freeview and Netflix from here, so you needn’t miss out on that series you’re following just because you’re away from home. Also in here is the extendable dining table, ideal if you’re a family wanting to share quality time together during a sit down meal, or if you’re here with colleagues on business and want a space you can share to work. It’s also worth noting that the property has an ultra fast internet connection, so you can stay in touch with the office or friends back home. Like the rest of the house, the kitchen has benefited from a complete refit. It’s light and bright, and has many of the appliances you’d expect (and need) to help make your stay a clean and comfortable one. The kitchen is also well equipped, including a Nespresso coffee machine (great if George Clooney pops round); and for the more health conscious a Nutri Ninja to make your own smoothies; and a spiralizer so you can turn your veg into fun noodles. The kitchen leads to the first of the home’s two bathrooms, and also gives you access to the small outside yard. Venturing upstairs, you’ll find the home’s three bedrooms. One has a superking bed that can be easily split into twin beds; the second has twin beds, and the third bedroom is a single. It’s the flexibility of the bed arrangements that help make this house an ideal place to stay for a group of colleagues away on business, contractors working nearby as well as a family or group of friends travelling to the area to see the sights and enjoy the great hospitality of the North East. All the beds are new, and presented hotel-style - that is with puffed up pillows, crisp, clean sheets and cosy duvets. There’s storage space in the bedrooms for your bags and clothes, and a second bathroom with WC, wash basin and shower.
The property is situated on a typical north east of England terraced street. It’s in a residential area superbly located just a couple of minutes’ walk from Bishop Auckland town centre. But even closer than that is the newsagent just across the road, where you can pick up milk, snacks and newspapers. If you need to do a bigger shop, the nearest large supermarket is less than five minutes walk away. Business visitors/contractors will enjoy how the property’s location gives you easy access by road to various big towns and cities in the region, including Durham, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. Those in the area for sightseeing will enjoy having all the following and more within easy reach: Kynren (within walking distance of the property) Durham (20 min drive) Auckland Castle (12 min walk) The National Railway Museum at Shildon (12 min drive) The Pennines (20+ min drive) Raby Castle (15 min drive) Beamish (35 min drive)

Location is central for the town centre but still quiet, there are some good places to eat within stumbling distance as well as a mix of pubs. Lovely view from the living room. The attitude I experienced was one of welcome and true generosity. It was ideally located for exploring the surrounding area, and it was a really comfortable place to relax after being out and about all day. She was basically my therapist during my short stay of 3 days in the area. Thank you so much Julie for your generosities and I sincerely do hope to be back there again!

  • Julie is what we can call a perfect host. She is a so welcoming and helpful person : she did so much for my father and I! I will definitely remember her all my life, and I hope we should visit her again. Her house is really lovely and clean, as is the room. I personally completely love the wallpaper of the room! Bonus : the dog, Luna, is the cutest dog I've ever seen!

  • 3 nights in Middlestone later and we are feeling refreshed and relaxed. Thank you to Tony and Jane for being great hosts. The house was perfect for our needs. We didn't go out because we were so comfortable, particularly with the wood burners. Even though one of the nights was New Year's Eve, it was very quiet and wonderfully dark in the bedroom.

The cottage itself was beaming with character, with log fire already set up to light, spotless and clean. Will definitely be staying again soon.

Recently refurbished miners cottage in the hamlet of Hummerbeck, light and bright offering great comfort and easy access to many local attractions. Close to all the major supermarkets gives plenty of choice. Enjoy a little luxury with our superking master bedroom with the versatility of bunk beds and sleeping up to six guests with a quality sofa bed. Perfect for a short break, holiday or business trip. Your dog is welcome too so the whole family can come. Parking is directly opposite the cottage
Located on the A68 so please note there will be some traffic noise but it's mostly quite at night. The cottage is almost 120 years old and has low head space on the stairs, so take care particularly if you are tall.
Ideal if you are visiting Kynren, not far from Durham City and 30/40 minutes from Newcastle. Beamish museum is a great day out for all the family and Locomotion at Shildon there are many other attractions. Great local walks or cycling on pathways and bridleways or drive to the Pennines.
  • Me and a couple of mates stayed here whilst visiting Hamsterly forest. This is a lovely little place, modern, comfy and spotlessly clean! It has all the amenities you need and more. Communication was great and check in a doddle, couldn't fault it at all and will be staying here again next time we visit the area. Thanks Steve and Lynne for an even better than anticipated stay 🙂

  • This place is fabulous. It is spotless and gorgeous. Much more lovely than the photos suggest. It is unbelievably well equipped. Very sweet touches everywhere. We also enjoyed a lovely walk on the bridle path just along from the cottage.

  • Steve and Lynne are amazing hosts. The property is clean and immaculately presented. I loved all the little extra touches like a complimentary bottle of wine and biscuits. They even put up a small Christmas tree to make it festive. I would whole heartedly recommend this property to anyone needing to stay in the Bishop Auckland area.

Green View is a lovely 2 bedroom cottage in a picturesque village located on the outskirts of Durham City. There are 2 restaurants within walking distance plus a village pub. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and a separate walk in shower. The fully fitted kitchen has all the mod cons plus a dishwasher. There is also a comfortable living room . The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are less than an hour away. The east coast is less than half an hour.
Guests will have use of the full cottage
The house is located approx 6 miles from the historic city of Durham. It is only an hours drive from the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. There are 3 pubs within a 5 minute walk with 2 serving food. Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor are only a short drive away. Darlington is an easy 15 to 20 minute commute. The Kynren event in Bishop Auckland will be taking place between the 29th June and 14th September 2019.
  • Great little home from home. I needed somewhere to stay for me and my senior dog while we were in-between selling and buying a house. Didn't want to stay in a hotel so wanted an entire place to ourselves to relax more. Just right for what we needed. Small artificial turfed courtyard which was nice. Cosy lounge with smart TV which was a nice bonus for a tech person like myself too. Never had a problem parking outside the property too. Thanks.

    Anthony2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna was a fantastic host and easy to communicate with. The cottage was perfect for myself, my partner and our baby. There was a cot provided for us and the space downstairs was great too. Everything was clean, the kitchen was fully equipped and the living room was cosy. The bedrooms were made up very well and the beds were both comfortable. Highly recommend!

    Jamie2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation, pleasantly presented in a tranquil setting. Dog friendly which was a major attraction for us. The local amenities are good, the local pub is excellent and the surrounding area has so much to offer. Would love to visit again and use the property in the future.

    Simon2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna's house is lovely it is extremely clean. It is full of everything you need and is in a great location.

    Stephanie2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Joanna's place for 3 nights. It is clean and very well appointed, as per the listing, with lots of living and storage space for up to four people. The jacuzzi bath is a nice touch, although do note that the bathroom is downstairs. As a couple we used the rear bedroom, which was very quiet. We didn't notice any noise from the nearby pub. The front bedroom is next to the road, but traffic volume was light both in the day and at night. The host Joanna does not appear to live locally, but was helpful with instructions for finding and accessing the property beforehand, along with details of an emergency local contact in case of need. There were plenty of parking options nearby, both on- and off-street. Recommended.

    Andrew2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very speedy communications, super clean spacious house. Great.

    Mark2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage, with everything you'll need, in the middle of a small Durham village. Handy to drive into Durham and see all the sights of Northumbria. Some nice pubs a short walk away, we liked The Ship Inn, which was the furthest, about 800 yards from our door the best. Joanna and Gary responded very quickly to all our needs and we would highly recommend a stay there. Great value for money.

    Robert2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house was really cosy and in a nice quiet location (but close to nearby Spennymoor town centre). It was spotless and had 2 good sized bedrooms with very comfy beds. The kitchen was fully equipped with all you need and the bathroom has both a shower and a jacuzzi bath which was lovely to relax in). Free wi-fi is available and the tv in the lounge (also cosy) worked well. Plenty of on street parking is available with no restrictions (I parked outside the house pretty much every day of my stay). If visiting the area again I would have no hesitations of staying at Joanna's house again.

  • Graeme was very quick to respond to all emails and queries. The house was lovely, very clean and well presented and bread, milk and breakfast food was available for us. It was just a few minutes from the centre of Bishop and very handy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this airbnb property.

    Lisa2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • WOW! This was my first experience with Airbnb and was a little nervous ! and wasn't really sure what to expect. I needn't of worried, our host Graeme put my mind at rest. The house was absolutely gorgeous. It was bright, modern and extremely spacious. Graeme has decked the house out with everything you will need for a 'Home from home' stay right down to a sieve !!! Our host made our stay very welcoming and personal by leaving us bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee and a selection of cereals and jams. A charming, and beautiful lodge in a idyllic woodland location, Fairbeck Lodge is every inch the beautiful setting for your well-deserved break. A truly beautiful lodge in a stunning location.

  • We were greeted upon arrival by both Tim and Julie, who gave us a quick tour and left us to our stay. Very nice people with a definite passion for hosting. The place is tucked away off the main road, very peaceful and quiet. It's very cute and ideal for couples. Decorated nicely with subtle details, it has character and a homely feel rather than being sterile and cold. Well heated, has offroad parking, clean, with a folder full of local and relevant details to increase the comfort of your stay. I would thoroughly recommend this place to others. We had a slight technical issue with the shower playing up, but that shouldn't reflect upon the host as sometimes things just dont always work as they should. And although we weren't seeking any recompense, Tim and Julie insisted on compensating us for the inconvenience. Very professional and appreciated.

The host were extremely kind and very prompt. Amy's husband deserves a note specifically as at one time he actually came to the house to help us with the heating which we found to be very kind. They also kept a welcome basket for us with goodies :-) highly recommend the stay!

  • What a great place to stay, cozy log fire for the winter nights. It was perfect for us and our dog, great walks in the area to enjoy. John and family are great hosts, and the family run pub does great food at a fantastic price

    Tony2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage which is dog friendly and very cozy. There was milk in the fridge on arrival and a doggie pack with towels and bowls etc. The log burner is a nice feature and the location is good for exploring the local area. There are no shops in the village but if you drive a mile or so up the road to Tow Law you can stock up on the essentials. We didn’t meet the hosts but communication with John was very good.

    Dorothy2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at John's cottage for a short break in County Durham. The cottage is wonderfully cosy and was an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed the log burner! Would definitely recommend.

    Jill2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay. An ideal base to visit my daughter and her family in Consett. The cottage was just as described and plenty big enough for the 3 of us. Everything was provided. The log burner is a nice extra on cold winter nights, Enjoyed our nights at the pub including New Years Eve. Good hospitality and friendly locals. We will be coming back.

    Dave2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely people, comfortable house, great log burner, very clean.

    Margaret2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage and a perfect location for visiting County Durham. John was really helpful and made the whole process easy. Great value for money, everything clean and smart.... We will visit again.

    Hannah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay in John's cottage. It's beautiful, clean and modern and we loved the log fireplace and decor. John was really helpful with answering all our questions, and we would definitely recommend this cottage for a weekend away!

    Katie2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • A genuine welcome by John, with a fire lit in the woodburner - great on a cold frosty day. A spotlessly clean cottage, with walks from the door or ideal for visiting Durham. Food in the pub is great value and quality - and just across the street. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Lovely place so cosy and sweet

    Lauren2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • More than the photos, they do the property justice but the place is just incredible. Very well presented, beds are superb, board games provided good entertainment. Would absolutely recommend

    Chloe2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Barn, a great renovation, well-designed and beautifully decorated and appointed. We especially liked the welcoming touches of cake and fig rolls with tea and coffee provided. The view was lovely and it's great to stay in an eco-friendly place. Just be aware that Google Maps shows it located on the opposite side of the road and a little further in towards the village than it actually is. You want the first turning on the right before houses start. We will definitely be back if in Durham again. Many thanks for a lovely stay. Eva, Martin and Pheebs.

  • Beautiful cosy cottage, 4 of us and dog stayed, plenty of room for us all. There were thoughtful touches like a ready made fire and basket of items for our dog to use. Immaculately clean and everything needed was there for a self cater weekend. The host was super friendly and made check in nice and simple, which we like after a long drive. The Moss Inn just round the corner is a must, great staff and great atmosphere. The cottage is a good base to see lots of the local area which is stunning. We highly recommend and will definitely book again.
