  • Alison is a very kind and helpful host. She went out of her way to make my stay comfortable, and her accommodation is just lovely. It is ideally situated for where I wanted to visit - mainly Hexham Abbey, Vindolanda and Housesteads. Also, as another reviewer recently mentioned, I was on my own this trip and I felt perfectly safe and relaxed.

Great location less than 5 mins from the train station and even less to a wonderful village pub. The patio which overlooks the river to the property's rear was also fab. Would 100% recommend and would stay again in a heartbeat. Our hosts were very friendly and even offered to drive us to another village to try their pub which was very kind.

  • We stayed in The Tack Room and it was just so lovely. Every room was spotless but felt so homely. The views from the bedroom and living room were amazing and there was even binoculars and a little book where you could jot down any wildlife you spotted. The bed was really comfortable and the heating kept us nice and toasty. It was so peaceful and quiet which made it even better for our two dogs as they could mooch around in the garden area with no worry at all. Would definitely stay again.

Haltwhistle, a small welcoming town, geographically The Centre of Britian is only a few miles away.
Cawburn Cottage & Hadrian's View are a converted farm building on our property. Due to the rural location, we have our own fresh water supply which is drawn from our well with water running down from Hadrian's Wall. Water is filtered & softening salt added. We are close by to offer help and assistance with shopping deliveries, laundry, lifts to local pubs/attractions, printing and more. It is small but perfectly formed and everything we needed supplied. Very efficient heating and within 10 minutes of turning it on on a cold and wet day it is warm and cozy. Very comfy bed. Loved the light in the conservatory and seeing the birds through the glass roof. It is only 6 minutes drive to the Vindolanda site. We stayed for 4 nights and so glad we did. Wished it could have been longer. Hope to get back one day.

    Andrew2019-11-22T00:00:00Z

    Matt2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Roberts place is a comfy clean tasteful retreat on the outskirts of a small town with all the amenities you need from a town. Streams, gorges on your doorstep and Hadrians Wall close by. Ideal for an escape from the bustle of the city. Thoroughly recommend the experience

  • Great base for exploring Hadrian's wall. Had everything we needed for cooking and a great film selection.

    Alex2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a cool little flat that is bigger than it looks from the photos. It is just a short walk from the centre of the quaint village of Haltwhistle. It has a well equipped kitchen and the clothes washer and dryer are a bonus. It is just a few kilometres to walk to Hadrian's Wall, so great for walkers. Also, 5 pubs nearby. Nice.

    Michael2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Really stylish! Perfect for a couples weekend away! 10/10

    Elliot2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment met our needs and expectations very well.  The location of the apartment was great for a very short walk to Haltwhistle stores of all kinds, pubs, restaurants, and sandwich/coffee shops.  The refrigerator, range, microwave, dishes/cups gave us the option of a snack of our food purchases, The supplies for some morning coffee or tea was really nice.  There were little extras like slippers that were unexpected and appreciated. Our privacy was respected. The reference maps of the area available in the apartment contributed to our decisions made for our activities and hikes.  We had previously planned for and chose the short drives to Hadrian's Wall sites and museums. We did a couple short hikes along "the wall"; and after visiting the Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum and the Roman Military Museum we appreciate the significance of this area even more.

SORRY - DUE TO COVID-19 I AM TAKING NO BOOKINGS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE This is my painting studio, (basic but comfy) in the garden of our 250 year old barn conversion - at Whitfield, 12 miles W of Hexham. This is part of a small collection of historical Northumbrian houses on a small organic farm in the North Pennines.
The studio has a veranda with wide open views over the East and West Allen valleys. Inside - as it is a working studio, there are the materials of the 'trade' -paintings leaning against walls etc, but there is enough space for two people to move about. It has two tables with chairs for writing or laptops, and a wood burning stove (logs small extra cost) and electric heater. The well-built sofa-bed (recently upgraded) is double size and comfy. It has a small cloakroom with toilet & wash basin with running cold water and a kettle for hot water. Guests tend to eat out in local pubs in evenings and bring their own food for breakfast and lunch. There is a kettle, toaster and double electric hob for basic cooking.
We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, near the Roman Wall. Alston, Cumbria is 9 miles away and the lovely Allendale village 3 miles away. The lake District is also within 1 and 2 hours drive from here. There is pony trekking nearby, and the river Allen is suitable for expert canoeists and kayakers when the river is in spate. Great for walkers and fit cyclists. We are virtually on the c2c cycle route.
  • Perfect for a 2 person/2 night stop over en route from down South up to Scotland. Quirky and creative studio space - perfectly adequate, cosy and comfortable. Location within easy drive of Steel Rigg carpark for Hadrians Wall- Sycamore Gap- Housesteads etc Charming hosts - there if we needed. Would definitely stay again.

To make this a more enjoyable experience, you can sit around a roaring outdoor fire pit, with a glass of your favourite, and just dream as you look skyward.

  • Great little break, lovely and cosy with log fire, nice and quiet, small but very quirky and unique, great to try something different! Our little dog molly loved it too, it poured with rain all night but we snuggled up with the fire on and a few gins, very cozy and a great end to a busy week and some quality time with my partner, would highly recommend it and Stella is very helpful! Lots of attention to detail and little touches, We will be back when it’s not raining to sit outside and try the fire pit, lovely private location too, thank you for a lovely cosy break from home :) Nicola

  • Could not fault anything about our stay! The log burner quickly warms the hut up, so no issues when staying in the winter. Water did freeze over in the morning, but didn't impact our stay, we just felt bad we had to leave our dishes. Did not expect some chocolates and a bottle of wine when arriving, lovely touch. Great night away, can't wait to book to stay again!

  • Adorable little hut, kept nice and cosy with the little wood burning stove. Perfectly located close to town where there are a few shops and pubs. Lovely touch of lychee wine left by owner, which was delicious! Would be lovely in summer as well as there is a small seating area outside with a little wood burner. Definitely recommended.

  • We stayed here as we were cycling coast to coast and it was the perfect half way point. Right on route 72. Ian has on site bike storage which was great for us. The room was great, lovely view over the pottery next door. They also kindly cooked for us even though they don’t normally serve food on a Monday. Can not recommend highly enough.

  • Where to begin- this was Such an amazing place , clean, fresh and very welcoming. From the lady who checked us in to the young lady who served breakfast everyone was so warm and friendly. And breakfast was a full meal. As your chef is off on Tuesday, we followed the recommendation for the nearby restaurant called The Anchor. We had the most amazing meal there. We booked at the last minute as we had a last minute change of plans. Our room was sparking clean and the bedding and bed were both amazing. If we make it back to this part of the country. We will be back. Thankyou.

  • We absolutely adored the bastle, by far one of the nicest accommodation we have stayed in. Picturesque, steeped in history, thoughtfully modernised and quirky. We did not want to leave.

    Adam2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was our best Airbnb so far in terms of host special touches, well equipped kitchen, cleanliness and just generally feeling at home. Julie left a hamper of goodies when we arrived including Roman coins for the kids and bubbles, which they were delighted with. The kitchen was the best equipped we had experienced including a good choice of high quality pans with none dented or marked. The place was spotless and had so many lovely touches like hot water bottles for the beds. The outside area catches the sun and we had breakfast outside a few mornings which was great. We definitely recommend Julie's place.

  • Wonderful accommodation in beautiful hamlet ideally placed for exploring Hadrians Wall and lots of other Northumberland outdoor pursuits. The welcome hamper with home Baking and gifts for my son and dog were very thoughtful. It’s clear Julie has paid great attention to detail and has anticipated everything ! We would love to come back 😊

  • This is a lovely, historical house - it's full of olden world charm, but has been updated with all mod cons, so it's comfortable and easy to stay here. All the linens, cooking facilities etc. are very high quality. Best of all, Julie's hospitality is first class - extremely friendly and helpful. Just a lovely spot for a holiday.

  • The Bastle is a real gem! It is in a beautiful part of Northumberland with great local walks and lots to do and see. The Bastle itself is beautifully renovated, keeping its historical charm. It was a very comfy place to rest our weary feet after a day out - clean, fully equipped and with many thoughtful touches such as a “welcome basket” that delighted adults and kids alike! We would wholeheartedly recommend a stay at the Bastle!

  • The most wonderful getaway! I thought we might be chilly, but we were toasty warm all weekend, with a wood stove and additional plug in heater which Stella left on for when we arrived. The hut is like being in a hobbit house from Lord of the Rings - so cosy and thoughtfully decorated. Stella provided everything we needed to cook dinner and breakfast and relax, right down to a bottle of wine and chocs. We had a peaceful and extremely cosy time. Delightful in every way.

    Miranda2019-11-24T00:00:00Z

Newfield is a peaceful, welcoming retreat with panoramic views, ideal for outdoor-lovers, wildlife enthusiasts & exploring the North Pennines & Hadrian's Wall. Our spacious Curlew Room looks out over fields. There's a sparkling en suite, TV, tea tray and original art. The super-king can become twin beds & with the comfy sofabed it's a flexible family room. With our cosy Lapwing Room we can accommodate up to 6 people. We provide a delicious continental breakfast with lots of home-made goodies.
At Newfield, we offer a warm welcome and relaxed hospitality. We pay attention to the small details that our guests tell us make all the difference: - your welcome tray will have freshly-ground coffee, tea, herbal teas, biscuits, fresh milk and nice china. - our breakfast has been reviewed as 'the best continental breakfast I have ever had at an Airbnb'. We offer delicious home-made jams from home-grown fruits to accompany home-made bread, pastries, yoghurt and fresh fruit, with lashings of fairtrade tea and freshly-ground coffee. - our bedrooms are decorated with original artwork, including local landscapes. - David is a qualified cycle mechanic and can service and repair bikes. The view of the West Allen valley from our garden is hard to beat, and on cooler evenings can still be appreciated from the summer house. A short stroll up the hill delivers another spectacular panorama taking in nearby Hadrian's Wall (you can just make out the famous 'Robin Hood tree' in Sycamore Gap) and the more distant border ridges. Newfield is an exciting place for wildlife enthusiasts! The North Pennines are England's most important site for breeding waders so, during the spring and summer you are likely to see and hear increasingly rare Curlew, Snipe and Lapwing; Black Grouse have also occasionally visited our garden. On evening strolls from the house, we've recently spotted Barn Owls and Little Owls. We’ve lived in the area for 25 years and would be very happy to share our local knowledge and enthusiasm for the wildlife, walks, bike rides and special places of the Allen Valleys with you.
Our rural location in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Northumberland is our main attraction. We have sweeping views of the beautiful East and West Allen Valleys and over to Hadrian's Wall. Open the windows to a chorus of bird song and calls- lapwing, curlew, snipe drumming, and many garden birds. Straight from the house we have lovely walks and bike rides, including the stunning Staward Gorge circular route. Isaac's Tea Trail is a 36-mile walk taking in Allendale Ninebanks and Alston. Our local pub, the Crown in Catton is a mile down the hill. They offer an extensive vegetarian/vegan menu alongside regular pub grub. They also have regular folk music sessions. There are five additional pubs close by, a tandoori restaurant and tea rooms all with great food. We have the award-winning Allendale Brewery and a micro-brewery too. Annual events include the New Year Tar Baarls, May Fair, Allendale Agricultural Show in August and the Allen Valleys Folk Festival in last weekend in September.
  • Kerry and David are true hosts, love talking and really welcoming you to the area. My family and I had a great time!

Enjoy a stay at Wentworth, an attractive, characterful three bedroom stone-built home in the charming, tranquil village of Newbrough, gateway to Northumberland National Park. Overlooking the grass parks of Newbough Hall, Wentworth offers light and airy accommodation with attractive gardens front and rear and ample car parking. It is ideally situated only 10 minutes from Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site, the Roman forts of Vindolanda and Housesteads, and the historic market town of Hexham.
Northumberland's history has been one of wild borderlands, dangerous territories at the frontier of warring nations and battling reiver clans. Shaped, moulded and pummelled by its history and location, Northumberland, which became known as the "cradle of Christianity", has more castles than any other county in England. Home to both Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Kielder Water and Forest, this beautiful western corner of Northumberland is an all year round attraction for sightseers, ramblers, cyclists and anglers. Kielder boasts the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe, the largest working forest in England, and the largest Dark Sky Park area of protected night sky in Europe. The popular Kielder Observatory hosts thrilling stargazing events throughout the year, the best time being the autumn and winter months when the nights draw in. The village of Newbrough serves as a tranquil southerly retreat to the stunning, rugged landscape of Hadrian's Wall on the Great Whin Sill and Kielder Water and Forest. Only a short walk to the South, through Crow Wood, takes you to the beautiful river South Tyne. Ten minutes drive to the west lies the Roman fort of Vindolanda, the home of Britain's top treasure, the Vindolanda Writing Tablets. To the east, dominating the ancient market town of Hexham, are the beautiful and welcoming Hexham Abbey, containing St Wildred's 7th century underground crypt, and Hexham Old Gaol, reputed to be the oldest purpose-built prison in England. Situated on the Stanegate, the ancient Roman road, and now popular Hadrian's Cycleway, Wentworth overlooks the grass parks of Newbrough Hall. A minute's walk is the Red Lion public house, an old coaching inn dating back to the 1190's, serving delicious, locally sourced food and ales. A longer walk along the South Tyne brings you to the popular Boatside public house where the river joins the North Tyne at Waters Meet. 20 minutes away are the beautiful village of Corbridge, Aydon Castle and Chipchase Castle. A little further are the stunning City of Newcastle upon Tyne; Gateshead for the Metro Centre and Angel of the North; historic Durham City; the world famous Beamish Museum; and Kynren, the UK's "must see" spectacular live action outdoor theatre show. Head cross country to the lovely village of Rothbury and visit the Idyllic Cragside House and Wallington Hall. No stay in Northumberland is complete without visiting the atmospheric castles and wonderful sandy beaches of the Northumberland Coast. Cross the county border into the North Pennines, where you will find the South Tynedale Railway and great walks around the picturesque towns of Blanchland, Allendale and Middleton in Teesdale. Conveniently close to the luxury wedding venues of Walwick Hall and Matfen Hall, and the golf venues of Close House and Slaley Hall. Only a few miles from the A68, A69 and A1, guests will enjoy easy access across the region.
  • This is a lovely, warm and comfortable house. We all slept really well in great beds and the dark rooms and silence helped. Lovely views from the front bedroom were a bonus. The Red Lion within walking distance another plus!

  • We stayed in Alison’s wonderful property for 3 nights. It’s a beautiful property in the Northumberland countryside with great views out the front of the property. We would definitely stay here again. The fixtures and fittings are of a very good standard with a ‘Nest’ thermostat at the heating controls. The range style cooker is perfect for cooking multiple dishes and the clean up is straightforward with the assistance of a large farmhouse sink. Alison and Colin provided us with cleaning materials, a washing machine, iron and hairdryer – not much more was needed. We look forward to staying here again – good job! A welcome drink and snack were provided too 😀

  • The house is tucked away in a small, quaint place. Just the thing for Hadrianwall explorers. Tania and her husband have made the old house very nice and cozy: great atmosphere! The room is cute, the bed very sprung :-) We had a delicious, healthy breakfast at Tania's. In the evening she had recommended us as a good tip a pub with great food (Anquor).

  • Lovely folks, very friendly and great hospitality. The house is great value for the location in a tourism area. Bed was very comfortable and a great power shower! Parking was a bit difficult, as the lane is very narrow and a long reverse if you meet another car, as I did. Overall, a great stay and lovely hosts, made me very welcome.

This bed area can be curtained off from the rest of the space where there is a well equipped kitchenette, with sink, fridge, oven, hob, kettle and toaster. Heating is provided by means of an electric heater. There is an ensuite shower room, with flushing toilet, sink and shaver socket. There is a king size sofa bed, dining table and TV.
Our bespoke cabins were constructed by Langley Furniture Works - a company based within sight of the glamping site. They are double glazed, well insulated and heated - providing a beautiful all-season living space. Outside there is decking leading down to a private gravelled area where your firepit is located. The cabins offer exceptional views over Langley Dam and our neighbouring moorland. We are a working sheep and cattle farm. The surrounding area is tranquil, unspoilt and beautiful.
Our glamping site is an ideal base for exploration of the North Pennines AONB, Hadrians Wall, and for cycling or walking holidays. We have fishing on site (charges do apply, but residents have discounted fees). It is truly a beautiful and unspoilt part of the country and our site offers a fantastic environment for a relaxing and tranquil holiday.
  • The glamping pod was so cute! It has everything you need whether you’re staying for a night or a whole week. The beds are incredibly comfy, the WiFi is a nice touch and the fact there is a TV with Netflix is amazing! I would definitely recommend.

  • A really beautiful little spot. The pictures can’t really show just what is waiting for you. Set on the banks of a fly fishing lake, beautiful tranquil place, amazing starry skies. The pod itself is as you’d expect - functional and clean with everything thought of. The WiFi was a nice surprise. The real bit of luxury was the amazing raised bed area - so comfy and lovely bedding, had an incredible night’s sleep both nights. It was great that our dog could come too and for such a reasonable price too for her. We all had a fabulous stay.

    Sophie2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • A very happy and positive experience stay in the pod. The views are gorgeous, and the general feel of the place was comforting. I would recommend bringing mosquito repellent, as we were bitten a few times! But that hasn’t changed my mind on the place! Jo was very quick and efficient at responding, and the checking in and out was very easy. Would recommend too anyone who wants a weekend away and is after a bit of peace and quiet!

  • Wow! Wow! Fantastic place to stay, location is amazing, in the middle of nowhere with plenty of scenery and sheep! The cottage is very modern and very clean. The hosts have put in great detail on providing towels, toiletries, milk and bread etc... like a home from home. We loved staying here and will be booking again in 2029. Highly recommend place to stay, not far from Newcastle Upon Tyne and plenty of things to do around the area. Thank you both x
