Places to stay in Barcaldine
400 year old cottage recently renovated to blend 21st century luxuries with original features. Perfect for hiking or skiing the mountains, kayaking to the seal colony or cycling, walking or horse-riding along The Caledonia Way/National Cycle Network.
The cottage is over 400 years old and one of the oldest in the village. It has just been renovated to blend original features such as beams in the living room with modern luxuries such as a Bluetooth speaker for your MP3/iPhone/iPad music, DVD player and Wii. The living room is perfect place to unwind after your day's activities. A large corner sofa sits in front of the log fire stove. Stoke up a roaring fire with the complementary logs: time to unwind with your choice of DVD from the huge selection left for you to use freely or set up the Wii for a game before dinner. The cottage is perfect for a couple but can accommodate up to four people, the corner sofa converting easily into a large double bed. The Neptune kitchen includes a full sized larder with place settings for up to four people and the all important wine rack to store your wine for your stay. There is a Nespresso machine with some coffee capsules, together with tea, milk and sugar. Breakfast porridge or cereal will also be left for you - that's a little breakfast sorted for you for the morning after you arrive. The bathroom features a walk-in slate tiled shower and Neptune sink unit while there is also a washer/dryer here should you get caught in our famous rain. Towels are available and there are toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and soap) left for your use during your stay. The bedroom is a cosy haven of tranquility. A large double bed awaits with feather down duvets and pillows dressed in crisp cotton bed linen. A travel cot and mattress are available. There is a welcome pack with your complimentary bottle of wine in the kitchen - this provides you with all the useful information about the local area to make your stay in Rose Cottage as full as possible. In it you will find lots of information about what's on, when and where, places to eat and activities you can do as well as all the useful information such as banks, pharmacies and filling stations (important considering the cottage is in a very rural community!).
Steeped in the history of the Appin Stewarts and nearby Castle Stalker, Robert Louis Stevenson based his novels Catriona and Kidnapped on the story of the murder of The Red Fox of Glen Ure in the Appin area. Built in 1320 it sits in the loch watching over the local residents. The cottage faces Loch Laich and just a five stroll from the front door will get you to the sea and to the Caledonia Way (part of the National Cycle Network) where you can walk or cycle to Campbeltown in one direction and Inverness in the other. Take a sea trip out of Oban to view whales, seals and dolphins (in season) or just enjoy a big bag of fresh, locally caught fish and chips in the harbour of Oban or sitting on the beach at Ganavan sands. The charming Old Inn is open daily for food and drinks and is located just 800 meters from the cottage - a perfect place to unwind in front of the fire and chat away to the locals who are warm and welcoming to all. If your aching body needs help after a full day - why not take advantage of the discount available to you for a local therapist to give you a massage in the comfort of the cottage. Fort William with its skiing, mountain biking and hiking are a 45 minute drive from the cottage while Oban is accessed by car in 25 minutes. From here you can take ferries to all the other islands such as Jura or Mull. Highland Games, hiking challenges, motor rally, the world cup stone skimming championships - these are just some of the local events on during 2016. More information on what's on, where and when is in the cottage welcome pack waiting for you on arrival (and can be emailed to you in advance if you wish to plan your trip in advance).
• We had a great time in the lovely Cottage. We enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen and the comfortable living room by the fireplace. The tips for the surrounding were great and Sumie was a great host. We’re already talking about coming back :)

Sophie2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
• We had a lovely two night stay at Sumie’s place. The cottage was cosy with the log burner even in January and everything was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. The location is peaceful and it’s just a few yards away from amazing views of castle stalker. It’s just 20 mins scenic drive from Glencoe area but being in a small village we had the best of both worlds as we were able to escape the tourist area every evening and had a lovely quiet place to retreat to. Also, Appin has the best food! The Pier House was amazing and we hear the old inn is excellent too but it was so excellent that they were fully booked so we didn’t get to try it. Would definitely return.

• A beautiful cottage in the perfect place to explore the highlands. The cottage has recently been stunningly refurbished and we would have happily spent more time there! Lovely, dog friendly cottage that suited us perfectly. Hoping to return next year.

• A beautifully decorated cosy cottage in a fab location for exploring and walking. The log fire is the perfect thing to come home to after a long walk in the fresh air! Sumie is a great host who provided lots of helpful tips. The old inn just down the road serves amazing food in a lovely atmosphere, but best to book!

Gemma2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
• Excellent cottage and perfect for a small family stay. Sumie made sure we were comfortable and provided many nice touches to make our stay special. Highly recommend.

• A lovely cosy space to return to after a day in the hills. Great kitchen for self-catering and lots of great restaurants a short distance away for a special treat! Highly recommend a stay at Sumie’s!

Jessica2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
• A beautifully decorated and situated cottage with a very thoughtful and responsive host. Lots to do in the area and some amazing places to eat (do not miss the Pier House!)

A delightful cottage in the grounds of our home. Set in approximately 5 acres of beautiful garden. Very peaceful/private location. Comprises of 1 Bedroom with TV and wifi, bathroom with over bath shower, and wc. There is a very small kitchen with small breakfast bar seating area, fridge with ice box and a cooker. (Please note there is no lounge) Ideal for outdoorsy couples, looking to explore the local area, parking in the drive of the main house. (Dogs welcome)
Directly on the cycle track Oban to Fort William. 45 mins from Fort William, 20 mins from Glencoe, 25 mins from Oban. A car is advisable, local restaurants tend to stop serving around 9pm. Many great restaurants in driving distance. We live in a very rural location, the nearest shop is a 10 minute drive.
Peaceful, rural, large garden approx 5 acres. Wildlife often in the garden, birds, deer etc.
• Super cosy and perfect for both short stays and a lot longer. Wendy is really friendly and the dog loved her and her garden.

David2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
• The stay in the cottage was lovely. Wendy is a great host, already present for us with a lot of suggestions. The cottage is perfectly located if you want to visit Oban, Loch Lomond, Glencoe and Fort William.

Thibaut2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
• We stayed in the cottage as a base for our trip around the highlands. The surrounding area and home are AMAZING. We had everything we needed and Wendy did not mind helping us if we were short on anything. The cottage was warm and cosy for those rainy days, the kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal, and the bedroom is cosy to hangout in. We would love to come back and visit the area, Wendy, John, Katie and the furry friends :)

Alexandra2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
• We highly recommend Wendy's cottage. It is in the middle of a large garden, it is very quiet. The cleanliness is irreproachable. Wendy is a really charming person and full of delicate touches

Stephane2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
• Wendy goes above and beyond to make your stay at the Kennels a memorable one. From the photos we thought the place was going to be small, but we had ample room! We loved Wendy’s taste in decor, the place is spotless and the kitchen is stocked up with all the necessities to make you feel right at home. Lots to do around Argyle, Wendy has a stack of books for walks nearby, but if you just want to chill & relax this is just perfect.

Roslyn2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
• Independent room quiet, warm welcome. Very good experience at Wendy. House well located for visits.

Damien2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
• We had a very relaxed stay in the cottage and appreciated Wendy’s hospitality very much. There was wine, food in the fridge, flowers, a tour around the cottage and all the information you need to have a pleasant stay. We hope to come back i n the future

Inveralt Cottage Also known as Forest Lodge, this property is situated in a quiet and peaceful location in the hamlet of Barcaldine, just 12 miles north of Oban in the heart of the beautiful north Argyll countryside.
The original part of this 2 bedroom cottage was used to house the Forest Manager for Barcaldine Estate, however a lot of things have changed since it was built in the 1860’s but this newly renovated cottage which was completed in July 2018 retains its traditional feeling showing off the original stonework and period features while enjoying the comfort and heat from the woodburning stove and underfloor heating. The heating can be controlled to suit or the doors from the living room or bedroom can be opened up for evening dinner on the patio or alternatively dine out at the near by pubs and restaurants. The cottage is situated a 5-minute walk from the bus route and is on a popular cycle route. The cottage provides a peaceful base to explore Argyll all year round or more locally there are plenty of walks around the forests of Barcaldine.
Just a short drive or trip by bus is the town of Oban to the south, and town of Fort William to the north. Oban is so much more than a port - it's a thriving town which is well worth exploring. Amble the seaside streets, try samples in the chocolate shop and distillery, visit the ivy-clad castle and the town's fascinating museum, fill up on a lunch of smashing seafood and walk up to McCaig's Tower for great views across Oban and the Inner Hebrides. Explore the delights of the surrounding countryside and Argyll's coast, such as wildlife attractions, nature reserves, walking, golf and adventurous watersports. Or head sea-bound on a boat tour to spot puffins, seals and seabirds, take a relaxing sailing cruise, or set off on a kayaking adventure. With many ferries setting off from Oban, the town makes an excellent base for fantastic island-hopping holidays too. Fort William is the town that's known as 'the Outdoor Capital of Scotland', so you can rightly expect there are a few thrilling activities to enjoy in the open air. If conquering the UK's highest mountain isn't at the top of your bucket list, then why not consider one of the other ways to enjoy magnificent mountain scenery? Pick from mountain biking, quad bike tours, wildlife safaris, gorge walking, white water rafting, canyoning, or bushcraft skills, to name but a few. Thrills and fresh air aplenty! Two of Scotland's five ski resorts, Nevis Range and Glencoe Mountain, are within easy reach of this Highland town. In the winter months, you can take to the slopes and get to grips with skiing or snowboarding (snowfall permitting). In the summer months, there's mountain biking, walking and more. Venture to the top of Aonach Mor via the Nevis Range's mountain gondola for some incredible views!
• Very cosy and clean house in a very beautiful area of Scotland. It has everything you need for a very confortable stay.

• John’s cottage is located in a lovely place in Barcaldine. Cottage is recently refurbished and it’s really good. There is a water stream just behind it which makes it even better. I wanted a kitchen appliance and John provided me in time. Thanks for that. I would definitely recommend this cottage and John as a nice host. He greeted us and explained everything about the cottage. Thanks

Deven2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
• Professionally, I work on the design of magazines about smart homes and smart homes-design. So John's Cottage was interesting for me also from this point of view. There were a few things that made form more significant than function, but on the whole it was a wonderful, exciting place to spend your holidays in this region of Scotland. We have made some wonderful trips and felt very comfortable. All thumbs up! It was great to have a charming, intelligent home and enjoy every day!

Ulrich2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
• John's house is set in the most beautiful location and area whereby you can go on local walks. The house has been very tastefully decorated and furnished. You have everything you possibly need to make your stay an exceptional one. Would highly recommend John's place to stay if you are ever planning on staying in the area.

Emma2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
• John is a nice host. He has renovated his cottage very tastefully. There is a folding table with chairs for quick meals. John provided us with good hiking and dining tips.

Stephan2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
• Nice and cosy house surrounded by nature. Hiking and biking tracks pass directly by the house. The house has a high standard, so the house is perfect for a family with (older) kids or couples looking for something extraordinary.

Christian2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
• Lovely house with a lot of facilities. Nice host House is spotless

Joyce2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
• John has done a great job on the restoration of his cottage, it’s tastefully done and very comfortable. He greeted us on arrival and was very helpful with information on walks and places to visit. We really enjoyed our stay, the location of the cottage being perfect with walks from the doorstep and an easy drive to the Jacobite Railway and the 3 Isles Tour which were all great. If we are being really picky then I would say that to seat the 4 of us around the table we had to carefully move it into the living area. This worked ok for us and was pretty minor considering what a lovely cottage it is.

• We had a wonderful stay at the lodge despite the rainy weather. If you're a keen walker it's about 7 miles to Appin where you can have a lovely dinner at the Old Inn. Make sure you book in advance though! We managed to catch a bus back from Appin to Barcaldine but they are only 3 a day so it's best to check your timing.

• It was so nice to arrive to a spotlessly clean place with lovely welcoming touches. Visiting in December, the wood stove was one of the main reasons we chose this cottage and it was great to have a cosy fire each night. The location is quiet, but with good access to Oban, the islands and excellent walking spots near Glencoe.

David2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
• Lovely place with a homely feel. We really appreciated the extra touches such as the Prosecco, shortbread and milk. Enough utensils etc to be able to cook comfortably as if at home. Wood burning stove was great for cosy relaxing evenings. Had a warm welcome from George and local tips were helpful too. Thank you for a great stay during our honeymoon road trip! Robyn and Pete

Peter2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
• To begin with, the area surrounding the cottage is out of this world. Moss coated woodland with faerie vibes, trickling streams and a HUGE gushing waterfall. Meadows, cows, horses, sheep, we also spotted a bird of prey or two! Then of course the cottage itself was to die for, we weren’t sure if it’d be cold but the cottage is so well insulated we actually turned the heating off for most of our stay. The fire was built ready for us, a coffee machine, extremely well stocked kitchen ready for cooking pretty much anything. The beds were comfy and everything was so clean and fresh. We wanted for nothing! Gabriella and George offered us plenty of advice for what to do locally and are charming and friendly. You will not be disappointed with your stay. The cottage and location are far better than advertised!

Nina2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
• Great location nestled in farmlands, everything we needed for our family of 4, with wonderful hosts who shared some great restaurants nearby and clearly love where they live!

• What a lovely cottage! Everything was sparkling clean and fully equipped with essentials (oil, milk, herbs, coffee, tea)... decorated beautifully and Gabriella and George were excellent hosts with great local tips. Would definitely recommend.

• The place is in a wonderful location, very clean and has wonderful special touches that give you a homely feel about the place. Great communication from the hosts, and would strongly recommend this place. Can't wait to go back.

• We have adored Fasgadh. It very quiet and relaxing. We should have stayed longer as there is a lot to do near Barcaldine. The place is beautiful, we appreciated the goodies, the wide variety of spices, dishes and kitchen ware. The space is very roomy and very well decorated. We instantly felt at home in this magnificent home. Do not hesitate to stay at Fasgadh!

• Our family stayed at Caz's place for 2 nights. I'd read lots of great reviews about this airbnb home and it was exactly as advertised. Check in was smooth, despite our being a bit late arriving. We loved the large yard, the kitchen was well-stocked with appliances and everything worked very well. It's a great house for a family. We have 2 teenagers and it was perfect for us. The house manual was really helpful and Caz was quick to answer any questions and shared lots of tips about the area. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

• Lovely house in a beautiful location. Great to be able to wake up to the amazing mountain views. Caz was always really quick to answer any questions we had. Lovely touch to arrive to some milk, eggs and a well needed bottle of wine :) House has everything we needed to have a lovely family holiday. Kids loved the swing, football goals and being able to use the safe cycle path just around the corner. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Balmossie is a spacious, modern and comfortable house situated in a rural location in the village of Benderloch, and backing on to Ben Lora mountain. There are sandy beaches within easy walking distance. The Fort William to Oban cycle path passes through the village, which also has a convenience store and seasonal cafe. This is an ideal base for exploring the West coast of Argyll. Ferries run from Oban, which is 20 minutes' drive, and the mountains of Glencoe are 45 minutes to the North.
The house is set in a large, informal garden with parking for 4 cars on the private gravel parking area. Guests need to climb a flight of stone steps to access the front door. The house is arranged over 2 floors, with the living areas on the top floor to take advantage of the views. The ground floor has a spacious hallway, large lounge with woodburning stove, kitchen diner, utility room and second sitting room. On the same floor there is also one double bedroom and a bathroom. Stairs lead from the hallway down to the lower floor, where there are 2 further double bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Each downstairs bedroom also has a small en suite sitting room, one of which houses a sofa bed and can be used as a 4th bedroom. Each of the 3 bathrooms has a bath with shower over, toilet and bidet. The main lounge has a 55 inch wall-mounted smart TV with freeview, and the small sitting room has a 43 inch TV with DVD/bluray player and a small selection of DVDs are provided. The kitchen has large american-style fridge freezer, range cooker with double oven, microwave and dishwasher. In the utility room there is a washing machine and separate tumble dryer, amd a handy pulley drying rack. The dining table extends to comfortably seat 8 people. A small supply of firewood for the woodburning stove will be provided, sufficient for a couple of fires. Further supplies can be bought from the petrol station on the way to Oban. A baby kit is available, consisting of travel cot, high chair and changing trolley. There is a stair gate fitted to the top of the stairs, and a nursery-type fire guard is also available.
Benderloch is a popular holiday destination, particularly for families, due to the sandy beaches, the cycle path and access to the hills. Between Easter and October there is a lovely cafe in the village which serves good coffee, lunch and afternoon tea, and excellent pizzas from their wood-fired stove (summer only). Between Easter and October there is a really good fish and chip van near the beach. There is also a nice restaurant, the Hawthorn, which serves high tea and dinner. 6 miles up the (mostly level) cycle path is the Creagan Inn, which does good beer and food, 7 days a week in high season. The proximity to Oban is also a big draw, for its shops, cafes and restaurants, 4 supermarkets, swimming pool, cinema, pubs and bars.

• We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the accommodation compared to the photos, and was otherwise very clean, cozy, and well equipped.

• Just exactly as advertised clean warm and a lovely location

• My fiancee and I stayed one night as we travelled round this area of Scotland. A really nice spot, quiet but close to a main route and the shed was much more than the name suggests. We travelled 30 minutes to Oban for dinner at a great seafood restaurant on the harbour. On the whole a great place to stay and Marina is a great host.

• “Shed”is a very amazing room! So beautiful place, room is clean and warm. Easy to find it because is just buhind the police office hhh. Don't miss the “Shed”!

• Very good night in Marina's little house. In peace and with all the necessary comfort.

Aurélie2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
• The shed was lovely, great kitchen facilities, nice bathroom and comfy bed. Very clean and easy to find with the directions. Our only issue was the lack of drinking water not from bottles. We like to be as eco friendly as possible and so do not like having to use bottles water.

Andrew2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
• The name ‘shed’ doesn’t really do justice to this little vacationhome in Marina’s garden. It’s really well equipped and very comfortable. There’s a nice viewing point nearby (serving good coffee and cakes) to see the bay and castle. We didn’t see or speak to Marina, but communication was clear through Airbnb so we didn’t need to!

Esther2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
• Deceptively spacious studio "shed" Has all that one needs: comfy bed; couple of arm chairs; table; kitchen area..... There are good places to eat within a few minutes drive...... We enyoyed it

Comfortable one bedroom flat with gorgeous views of Loch Etive and the Falls of Lora, Connel Bridge and Beinn Lora, only about 10-15 min by car from Oban center. The self-catering apartment has a private entrance, and is quiet and well-equipped. It is also on bus routes and near paths with lots of easily accessible and beautiful walks. We provide coffee, tea, a few breakfast items and other basics. Not suitable for pets.
The space is a ground level, contained one bedroom flat with separate entrance, but does share a wall with our house, so we request reasonably quiet, respectful guests. We want you to have a pleasant stay with us, and we aim to keep a quiet house between 10p-8a. Also, please note that the sofa bed in the living room is a small double, so best for one adult or two kids, though if you like things cozy, two adults could fit!
The space is literally across the street from Loch Etive. You can take walks along the shore, admire the view of the Falls of Lora and Connel Bridge, and say hello to the sheep grazing nearby. We are also about 2.5 miles from Beinn Lora -- a fabulous hike. There's a bike path there if you have a bike, or it's a 2-3 min drive to get there by car or about 45 min by foot. There's also a restaurant & pub a short walk away, or you can meander over the Connel Bridge into Connel for their amenities.
• Lovely place to stay, very modern with a brilliant amount of space! Really appreciated the little touches.

• What a beautiful little cottage in a stunning location! We stayed here over Christmas and were lucky enough to squeeze in at the local hotel/pub The Lochnell Arms (extremely friendly and within walking distance) for Christmas dinner! We used the cottage as a little hub from which to explore the surrounding areas such as Oban, Inveraray and Fort William (Ben Nevis). It was situated in a great location for jumping onto main roads and it was great knowing we were coming home to a cosy cottage that felt like home after a long day adventuring. Jakki was a fab host, her communication was great and nothing was too much! I would absolutely recommend this charming little place and hopefully will get the opportunity to stay again myself!

Chloe2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
• A cosy but spacious apartment close to loads of fantastic walks and Oban. We had so much more space than we expected (separate bedroom, living room, kitchen-diner & bathroom) & used this place as a base to explore the area, including going over to Mull for the day. Jakki is a wonderful host and has thought of everything you might need during your stay. Thanks again.

Great location for oban and surrounding and has stunning views . Everything was lovely especially the milk 🤗 and a great stay . We hope it goes well for you 😉

• We really enjoyed our stay at Jakki's appartement. A cozy appartement in a beautiful area with everything you need. It was clean and comfortable. Jakki answered all messages very fast and there were no complications at all. We can really recommend Jakki's appartment. :)

Lurach is nesting near the shores of Loch Lihnne, just 19 miles north of Oban and 29 miles south of Fort William, which make it a superb base for exploring the west coast of Scotland. This spacious, semi-detached holiday house, adjoining our selfcatering flat. The house has magnificent views across the sea to the Island Sheep Island, Lismore, Shuna and the Morven Hills. Lurach is self-contained with private access, garden and parking. The ground floor consist of a spacious living room with dining area, fully equipped kitchen, and wet room with toilet. The stairs lead to two bedrooms on first floor, one double bedroom with king size bed, one twin bedroom with two single beds, bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Sleeps 4

2 bedrooms double/twin

Multi-fuel stove

Freeview TV

DVD

Ground source heat pump

Parking

Gas cooker

Microwave

Washing machine

Dishwasher

Fridge/Freezer

WiFi

No smoking

No pets

An ideal touring base to explore the west coast of Scotland, surrounded by stunning scenery, a walkers’ and cyclists’ paradise. Nesting in the pretty village of Port Appin, with magnificent views across Loch Linnhe to Morvern mountains, Sheep Island, isle of Lismore and Shuna, Lurach provides a special tranquil setting. Lurach is built with modern, stylish interiors, is very well equipped and tastefully furnished.
Port Appin is a pretty little fishing village on a peaceful secluded peninsula between Oban and Fort William. Undoubtedly this village is one of Argyll’s most picturesque spots, overlooking Loch Linnhe, with Lismore, Morvern and Mull in the background.
• Lurach House is a beautiful home from home. The photos had looked very promising but frankly didn’t really give you the full idea of just how much trouble and care the owners have gone to to make this a very special property. Finishes are of a very high standard and decoration looks very fresh. Kitchen is very well stocked and again with good quality crockery and glasses, has just about every pot, pan or cooking item you may need. The location is just perfect, clear views over to Ardgour & Morvern with an ever changing view as the weather comes and goes. Plenty of chances to leave the car on the drive and walk either up to Castle Stalker or down into the village and around the stunning coastal path or on the passenger ferry over to Lismore. Take the car out and the world is your oyster, the position is excellent for wider exploration of the beautiful west coast. Communication with Maryam was swift throughout. We shall be back ... if they’ll have us! Thanks again to the host family.

Benderloch is a quiet village situated approximately 7 miles from Oban and a perfect base for visiting the west of Scotland. It's the ideal place for people who love the open-air life, while having the busy town of Oban a 15 minute drive away, with lots of restaurants and pubs for a bit of night life. Tralee beach is a five minute walk away, as is the foot of Ben Lora - the top of Ben Lora takes a bit longer (!), quite a stiff climb, but with several viewpoints with wonderful views over Morven, the Isles of Lismore and Mull and the Lynn of Lorne. The village is 36 miles from Fort William and Ben Nevis, and 26 from Glencoe. The shop in the village opens very early and closes late and sells everything from local farm eggs and milk to beer and wine. There is also a great cafe and book shop, and a petrol station which sells petrol (obviously!) as well as caravan gear, wellie boots and other useful bits and pieces. The local café, which is open from April until end September, serves the best scones in the world!

• The coordinates of the house are 56.4900045, -5.4009829 (copy & paste in google maps) We were for 10 days with 2 adults and 4 children between the ages of 4 and 9 to visit. I can only agree with all the reviewers regarding the cleanliness of the house and the friendliness of our host Winnie, she is incredibly personable, very discreet but always present and I had a good feeling to know her in our area. We slept wonderfully, it is very quiet there and the people in the neighborhood are very friendly. In addition, the house is well equipped: There are games, puzzles and pens and paper for the little ones and you can (of course very rare: -D) use his Netflixaccount on Winnie's TV. We cooked every day, baked and made pizza and there was not one thing missing. We were welcomed with milk, eggs, jam and coffee. There is a 2 minute walk to the "Pink Shop" which has all the necessary 24/7, the next Lidl / Aldi in Oban is 20 minutes away by car. Benderloch also offers a great beach to play and a mountain to hike, all within walking distance. The Western Highlands can be explored from here fantastic. I would go back anytime.

• This home was exceptional and perfect place for our larger group to stay comfortably as our base while we explored West Scotland. Perfectly located between Glasgow and Oban, on the bank of the River Orchy, this beautiful, captivating Blacksmith’s cottage is so pretty and charming, you'll not want to leave its peaceful embrace. From the moment you step through the door, you'll find a warming, welcoming, homestay that'll transport you away from the everyday.
Living The wonderful sitting room is quintessentially Scottish country cottage with a homely mock-wood burner set in a stylish slate wall, gorgeous artwork and plenty of seating nestled close by - a sublime setting for relaxed evenings. We just love the soft sofa, just begging to be sat upon! If you’re in need of entertainment, there’s a 50” Smart TV with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime plus a Sonos sound system. Eating The exquisite, kitchen/diner is the perfect setting for rustling up family feasts or romantic meals. With a sleek oven & hob and all the other modern appliances you could possibly need including a dishwasher, whilst open shelves beautifully display cookbooks from around the world and white dinnerware and cocktail glasses. There’s a Sonos sound system to accompany the host or hostess whilst they create culinary masterpieces! The dining room, painted a soft French grey and lit by vintage wall lights, is the perfect setting for dinner parties and the Georgian dark wood table with yellow painted chairs completes the look. Sleeping There are three delightful bedrooms to choose from, all full of character. The large master bedroom, originally a 2nd reception room, is located on the ground floor of the cottage and has beautiful original wood paneling and a window overlooking the garden. The romantic, luxurious king-size bed is beautifully lit by vintage wall lights whilst there›s artworks by Ron Lawson to complete the look. The second bedroom, in a subtle French grey, has a completely different feel with a cosey cottage charm with its coombed ceilings. The sturdy wooden double bed, with matching bedside table & lamp, paintings and floor lamp are extremely elegant whilst the pale tartan curtains and dormer rail add a touch of cottage charm. The third bedroom is a personal favorite of mine as it was the bedroom I slept in as a child. Push open the cutaway door and step into a wood-paneled room with sloping coombed ceils and lie back in the comfiest of beds. This is a wonderful place to listen to the bird’s song outside or lie under the covers and listen to the wind and rain as it hits the traditional slate roof above you. Bathing On the ground floor is a beautiful bathroom with a walk-in shower big enough for two, a wall heater to keep you toasty warm, soft grey towels and a seat. Leading off the kitchen is a small toilet and washbasin, handy if you are in the back garden and need to go. Garden The garden is vast and surrounds the house covering an area of 2 acres, the large country garden has a picnic table to the front of the cottage, perfect for alfresco dining, whilst a wooden bench halfway up the garden is the perfect spot for sunsets over Ben Cruachan and a sundowner or two. To the right of the cottage, you will find a slow meandering stream that makes it›s way to the River Orchy. I love to sit here and listen to the water. Perfect if you have a good book.
The thing that makes The Smiddy special is the River Orchy. The are many places on the banks to sit or have a picnic, there are even outdoor exercise equipment if you need to burn some calories. Directly behind The Smiddy, you can climb the hill and check out the waterfalls and wildlife with amazing views of Dalmally and beyond. If you like to walk to can head for the village and onto Duncan Ban’s monument. It’s a great place for a picnic combined with a boat trip on Loch Awe which is nearby. Also nearby is ‘ The Hollow Mountain’. Experience the cavernous machine hall a kilometer inside the solid rock of Ben Cruachan on a guided tour of the power station. Another must see attraction is St. Conan’s Kirk. The kirk attracts visitors from all over the world with its magical setting and easily reached location. Inverary Just a short 16-mile drive south from Dalmally is the picture-postcard town of Inverary with its fairytale castle, which is a must-see. In the town you find some interest shops and wonderful places to eat, we love going to The George as it’s like stepping back in time. Oban The stunning sea-side town of Oban where you can catch the ferry to many of the Scottish Islands. You will find all your major supermarkets in Oban as well as lots of bars, restaurants and shops. Why not try a visit to The Oban whisky distillery or take a walk up the McCaigs tower for wonderful view over to Mull. Glen Coe The world-famous area is known for Mountains, waterfalls and trails that climb peaks such as Buachaille Etive Mor and Bidean nam Bian. In the village, Glencoe Folk Museum occupies 18th-century thatched cottages, with displays on local heritage and the Glencoe massacre of 1692. Wildlife in the area includes red deer and golden eagles.

• Allan was a great host. He introduced us to the details of the accommodation, gave us good tips and was very helpful with managing the transport of our bags mishandled by the airline. The hut itself was a great accommodation, small for four persons but still manageable and quite comfortable. The spot where it is located is really awesome. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Lucas2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
• Magnificent wooden caravan, perfectly equipped, in a fabulous setting at the foot of the lake, which allowed us to enjoy a pleasant and unique experience. Good reception and hospitality of Allan.

• The perfect place to totally relax in real luxury. Your are looked after with exceptionally nice touches and delightful hospitality. A real find for the Highlands!

Nicholas2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
• WOW! Endless touches here completely make the stay. The owners of the BNB are so helpful and ready to provide anything to make your experience better. Upon check-in we were given freshly made (and amazing) scones, outside the rooms they had whiskey, home-made baileys, and a coffee maker available 24/7. The breakfast was INCREDIBLE and like everything else in this home absolutely beautiful. My wife LOVED the Dyson hair dryer in the room and all of the soaps and lotions provided are really high quality. It got a little warm but I think that was our own misunderstanding of the AC. Overall really great experience and we’d love to come back some day.

Orian2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
• What can I say about the wonderful Ardtorna... The house: stunning The location: stunning The hospitality: stunning The warm welcome you receive from Karen and Sean continues throughout your stay and they genuinely want to go out of their way to make your experience an enjoyable one. Lovely, lovely people who are always up for a chat and able to offer some local knowledge if you want to find a pub! Cannot recommend enough, 10/10

Michael2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
• If you are reading this go ahead and treat yourself! You will not be disappointed in any way, shape or form. Without a doubt an absolutely fantastic stay at this “5 star Gold” Bed and Breakfast! Not far from good walks and great restaurants a short drive away. We chose to try the local suggested places to eat and we were overwhelmed at the hospitality and quality of the food! We especially enjoyed fine dining at the Isle of Eriska and the fish was second to none in the Pierhouse a short drive to Port Appin. Karen and Sean have really pushed out the boat in all aspects of Ardtorna. The house is very modern and all amenities are of very high quality! Breakfast was impressive. We loved the Scottish Breakfast, the Salmon and thought the Waffles and ice cream was amazing! Sean also offers traditional archery lessons as he was a former world champion in the sport. Worth a booking! Hospitality at its finest. If this isn’t enough to whet your appetite, just look for all the awards they have won over the last few years and see that you have been very lucky to find a vacancy as they are normally fully booked. Not hard to see why after our experiences. We would love to come back if we were going to do more of the Western Highlands as it is a fantastic base to set off from. I cannot recommend Ardtorna, Karen and Sean enough!

• Rhu Mor is a very nice, comfortable, family home. Convenient to Oban, we found it to be a great base for day trips out to the ferry and the islands, a drive up to Glencoe, and tours of several castles. Our hostess was very helpful and communication easy. If you have a family trip to west Scotland in mind We can recommend Rhu Mor.

• We had a lovely stay in Monica's house. It was very well located for exploring Oban and the surrounding area and the views from the house are incredible. We had 6 people (two families) and the house was spacious enough that we were very comfortable even on rainy days. Monica was very easy to communicate with and helpful throughout our stay.

Elizabeth2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
• Great location. Fabulous view. Lots to do. Host is warm and friendly and then let us get on with it. Host helped us with things like beach locations. Plenty of space. The piano was a nice surprise. Easy distance for Ben Nevis and other mountains. Boating on Loch Awe. Lots in Oban.

Simon2019-07-30T00:00:00Z

Clean and well-stocked, comfy beds and breath-taking scenery where ever you look. Short car ride in to Oban and near-by Connel village. A perfect Airb&b for up to 7 people.

• As a family of 5 we had a great time in Monica’s huge house. The garden was massive, even saw a deer running through it! The view out the front down Loch Etive to Ben Cruachan was stunning in all weathers. Location fab - Oban is nearby for trips to Mull, and Seil / Easdale was our favourite trip out. Had a run to Glencoe and would have gone further if we’d stayed longer. Monica is a fab host and her house was great. Highly recommended.

Kerry2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
• AMAZING views - we'd come to visit my family and even though I grew up there I could have happily stayed in the sitting room watching the loch. Spacious and quiet, and everything needed for a family stay already there. we could have packed far less stuff!

Catriona2019-01-23T00:00:00Z
• Monica and Nigel were absolutely brilliant! They went above and beyond by providing information and Monica picked me up from the train station. As 3 student nurses we were in a great location to relax on our days off and explore the area. I would definitely recommend this property to others.

Marian’s house is a 10 minute walk from a beautiful beach. It is simple but very comfortable and cosy. Marian couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating! The house was well stocked with all essential goods for use in the kitchen and bathroom. The beds are comfortable and there were plenty of towels etc. We felt very at home during our week spent there. The gift of a box of shortbread was much appreciated along with other essential food in the fridge. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar eggs. Many thanks Marian, you were most obliging and we so enjoyed meeting you. Carol, Stan, Dave and Penny.

• This was such a perfect place for us to stay as a home base during our travels throughout Skye. We were a family of 3 traveling with our college student. Although a bit small, we loved it and found clever ways to store our luggage while maintaining a comfortable space. Claire made us feel so welcome with special treats and snacks waiting for us when we arrived. The location is close to Portree making it easy to grab our meals or wander the town. We loved the beautiful country setting with both sheep and cattle close by (we even spotted a few highlander cows!). I highly recommend staying in one of Claire’s pods. The peace and quiet and beauty is something we will always treasure!

• Comfortable apartment in what I assume is the old servants quarters of a large mansion. Close-up views of the large garden out of almost every window, with the daffodils on display, made everyone feel good. All amenities were as described and there is plenty of parking space. • The apartment is nicely decorated, with all the necessary. Very clean and quiet in a property. We feel that Ronnie knows what travelers need, such as putting USB jacks next to the bedside table or putting a large binder with lots of useful information on where to eat, what to visit, and so on. The only downside would be the lack of heating in the bathroom ... it was already a little cold in early September. I recommend sleeping at Ronnie's.

Ariane2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
• Ronnie's place was really brilliant as was she! A peaceful, comfy little bolt-hole, super clean with everything you could ever need thought out for you plus a few extra little sprinkles that Ronnie has kindly put in place. A great host of great accommodation in a fantastic location from which to explore this magnificant part of the world. I'm hoping to make this same trip an annual occurrence. Thanks Ronnie!

• The property was tastefully decorated, comfortable and 'clean as a whistle'. There was everything you would need for a lovely stay. A very comfortable bed, a lovely Welcome Pack and nice toiletries. We would highly recommend this property and host, Ronnie.

• There isn’t anything Ronnie hasn’t thought off and she even provided goodies that allowed us to have breakfast which was over and above the call of duty. We loved everything and she’s done an incredible job fitting, installing and kitting the place out - all her own handy work. Incredible and talented lady and a definite super host. 10/10

The walk up Ben Lora that Ronnie recommends is well worth a trip and so is the beach 5 minutes walk away. Can't wait to come back!

• Ronnie's cottage is very well equipped, was very clean, and very comfortable. Location is great too, nice and remote (next to a field with sheep) with a lot of privacy even though Ronnie lives next door. We spent a week here and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. Including a very nice shower and well-working heating (living in a chilly flat in Edinburgh makes you appreciate these things even more...). Area is great too, very good for cycling with a dedicated cycle path on your doorstep and the great Munro's of Glencoe/Glen Nevis aren't too far a drive either. Ronnie was very nice and helpful, would certainly recommend staying here!

A large kitchen with wood burning stove, dining table, adjoining sun room, lounge and three lovely bedrooms make this the perfect place to stay to explore the West Coast. The views from all the bedrooms and main rooms are stunning – looking across Loch Creran towards Glen Creran and the surrounding mountains. Cycling, walking and fishing are right on your doorstep. The A85 is less than a mile away and leads south to Oban and north to Fort William, Glencoe and so much more.
The spacious kitchen has sofa seating around a wood burning stove at one end, a large dining table in the centre and a well equipped kitchen area with windows that look down over Loch Creran. A door to one side leads to a bright sun room with comfortable seating to enjoy the views. The downstairs hallway leads to the lounge with patio doors opening out to the front of the house and a spacious decked seating area. This hallway also leads to a quiet reading room and a bathroom, ( bath and WC.) and stairs to the upper floor and the bedrooms. Upstairs to the Creran View room, a large Master bedroom with King size bed, lovely view out to the Loch with ensuite – a shower over a jacuzzi bath which has 2 high windows to see the stars. The Creagan room has a double bed, large wardrobe and Fasnacloich room has twin beds and a large wardrobe. These two bedrooms also have superb views to Loch Creran and share a very spacious – with shower over bath – bathroom. Downstairs, at the entrance is a utility (washing machine & tumble dryer) and boot drying room, and also a separate shower room with wc & basin. Cycle or canoe storage is available and there is plenty of private parking to the rear of the Lodge. This is shared with the owner Ross and his working collie Moss, who live in a converted barn adjacent. To the right of the house is a small ( 5 vans only) immaculately maintained touring caravan site which Ross runs.
The area around Oban is rich with attraction for tourists, from the dramatic scenery of the coast and mountains to the fascinating histories of local castles and ancient religious sites. The town itself is an important ferry port being the ‘Gateway to The Isles’ with ferries serving all of the Small Isles and Inner and Outer Hebrides. Oban distillery, nestling beneath the steep cliff that overlooks Oban, is one of Scotland’s oldest sources of single malt Scotch whisky and is but a stone’s throw from the sea. High over Oban is the distinctive McCaig’s Tower Built in 1897 by local banker John Stuart McCaig, the climb to the Tower is well worth the effort when faced with the spectacular views across Oban Bay to the Atlantic Islands.
• Ross's place has truly stunning views of the loch from the living room and all the bedrooms. It's the most quiet place you could dream of, although it's not too far from the main coast road. Perfectly located between Glencoe and Oban, the lodge was very clean and had everything we needed. Thanks Ross and Moss

• We really enjoyed our stay, the location was fantastic, the house spotless and nicely decorated, and Ross is a very friendly and helpful host. Great base for exploring, good local pub, and overlooking a loch. Ideal place for a family or group holiday.

• We spent a wonderful week in a well appointed and fantastically located home with a touching host on all requests.

• A lovely house with plenty of room and views to die for! Our host was fabulous and welcoming. Kitchen was well equipped - it’s the small things that count, like bin liners, washing up liquid etc all present for us! Plenty of towels which was great, the bath/showers are lovely. Views of the loch from every bedroom and the lounge. Very peaceful. Highly recommended!!!

• We are delighted to be the first group to stay at such a wonderful house in the highlands. The views from the house are even better than the photos could tell. Truly stunning landscape all around. The house itself is very spacious and warm. Ross had the fire in the kitchen roaring when we arrived, and he even came by to restart it when us city folk were having trouble. The place was always toasty, with plenty of heaters and windows to get the atmosphere just right. The two double bedrooms are great, both are very comfortable, though we had to flip for the larger one! We didn't use the bedroom with the two singles, but each room has the same wonderful view of the loch that you can see in the photos. The kitchen is huge with lots of cooking space and a generous dining table. There was seating for 6 but could easily accommodate more, plus the room itself has the fire and a couch so that the chefs don't need to be lonely while they are doing their thing. The living room is very comfortable with a massive window view out the loch, and there are a further two reading rooms for anyone looking for some more quiet space. There is wifi and a DVD player, but honestly we spent most of our indoor time chatting, eating and playing games. We had a bathroom per person so there is no shortage there! There is a small room that works as storage and pantry, and an entrance room suitable for decloaking and leaving muddy shoes. The house could easily accommodate a couple of families or maybe up to 4 couples with the space available. There is parking at the house for at least 4-5 cars, and Ross lives in the little cottage behind the main house. From there he also runs the small caravan park in the field next door, and can attend to his sheep in the field! His dog Moss is incredibly friendly and huggable :) We didn't even notice any traffic nearby, it is incredibly peaceful. There is a fantastic run that you can do around the loch, and a pub just across the bridge. The drive to Oban is about 25 min, and the place is very easy to find. Ross is an amazing host and was eager to make sure we were as comfortable as possible, with lots of great tips about the local area. If you are very lucky, you might even be able to catch him playing his accordion at the local pub. All in all we had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend to anyone that this is a wonderful place to spend a holiday.

• Nice, super clean place. A bit outside of Oban, so if you have a car it is easy. House is located behind some other homes. We would recommend finding it in daytime hours the first time you come in. Quiet, pleasant, contemporary design, large kitchen. Kerry was very nice and we recommend her place to others.
