  • I'd highly recommend staying at The Old Milking Parlour. It's a gorgeous property that's great for groups and that has everything you should need during your stay. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Knowing exactly where to go when you first arrive is a little difficult, but you can just park up and ask someone like we did.

  • Vic's place is in a wonderful location, great accommodation very clean and just as described. Everyone loved all the animals and thanks for spending time to allow the kids to be involved with the feeding. Great time had by all, hope to be back on our next visit to the UK.

  • Fantastic accommodation, with excellent facilities, great location, although difficult to find walks locally straight from the house with the dogs. Play area was amazing and BBQ area was lovely. Would have been nice to have a private BBQ space but other than that it is a great venue for a big group gathering! :-)

  • We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Milking Parlour. It is a beautiful property with plenty of space for our group of 13, and it was great to receive a couple of boxes of fresh eggs on arrival! It is in a lovely part of Derbyshire with easy access to some nice walking routes. Our only comment would be that it can get quite hot in some of the downstairs bedrooms, but this was ok once we worked out how to alter the heating schedule.

    Faye2016-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place: beautiful location, modern , clean with literally everything you could need including cleaning products , Sky TV and DVD player . Great contact - hosts replied to any questions within the hour . Highly recommended :)

  • This is such a great place! We had a gathering with friends and 6 kids of different ages, and it was perfect. They loved the animals and the play area. Communication with Vic was really good - very quick to respond and always helpful. I would definitely recommend it and we'll be back again soon!

    Laura2016-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Farmer Vic was a lovely host, and his introduction to feeding the animals gave the grandchildren a memorable experience. The listing was completely accurate, and the setting pleasingly rural to the eye.

    Christopher2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location. Immaculate barn conversion. Ideal for a group or a family who want a peaceful stay somewhere rural. Our own large group of noisy adults unfortunately found that the sound insulation properties internally were not that good, so we disturbed each other. But then we were a noisy mixed group. If you are a normal family who all go to bed at the same time then you will have a fabulous time.

  • The house is beautifully organised and decorated and also very modern with all microwave, cooker, dishwasher, Sky and Wifi etc included. Two toilets upstairs and downstairs with shower and bath. There is a garage for people who drive. Absolutely tidy and clean. The host is very lovely and kind. I was offered a lift from the train station ans shown the way to the leisure centre where I had the swimming meet early morning. Great value for money. Definitely recommend.

  • The entire experience was fantastic. The house itself was far better than the photos suggest. Vic and Rachel were fantastic hosts and were easy to contact with any queries/requests. The location is a 5 min drive from local shops and amenities. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and hope to return in the future.

    Nasreen 2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The bungalow was absolutely divine, Vic was on hand whenever we needed and was so kind to take the two children around the farm. The hot tub was spectacular and the accommodation is the best I've stayed in in terms of them thinking of everything!!! I've stayed in a lot of Air BNB places too. We will most definitely be back and hope to enjoy more of the area too. The photos don't do it justice and the fire is great. Such a great stay.....thanks Vic

  • We spent a long weekend at Amber Lodge with 9 people and three dogs, and couldn't have asked for a better property! The property was large enough for all of us to sleep comfortably and the outdoor seating space was great for enjoying dinner in the summer sunshine. We enjoyed the local pub (which was about a 5 minute walk) and made the most of being on the doorstep of the Peak District. All in all, a great option if you're a large group/family looking for an escape to the country side.

    Marcus2017-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Every year, me and my girl friends have a weekend away. This has been the best yet, the cottage was lovely. Clean, modern and bright with a great lounge and access to the hot tub was great too. The hosts are great and we will definately be rebooking!

    Kayleigh2016-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for three nights at Amber Lodge. The bungalow was exactly as described. We stayed in every night and enjoyed spending time there. There was every piece of cooking equipment we required. The kitchen table is a little tight in the kitchen but it worked for us. The hot tub was used daily after days out exploring and is the selling point of this air b n b. Overall we had a great weekend away.

    Hannah2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to unwind - the rain meant we made lots of use of the free Sky movies and enjoyed cooking together in the sizeable kitchen. Beds were comfy and hot tub was lots of fun!

    Abigail2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great weekend stay for my daughter's 21st birthday. Amber Lodge has everything you need. I really liked the little play area for my grandchildren. They loved seeing the farm yard animals. I would recommend staying here and will definitely be back.

    Karen2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Had an absolutely fantastic stay at Amber Lodge. The owners were helpful and friendly, even dropping off a couple of cartons of freshly laid eggs for us and offering extra BBQ equipment when requested. Any minor issues we did have (couldn't get the Sky TV on initially) were dealt with and fixed immediately. The scenery was beautiful, there were a variety of different friendly animals in the paddocks, and even a football pitch (and goals) for us to have a kickabout on. The place was clean, spacious and secluded, the grounds were big enough for our party of 10 and we certainly made the most of the hot tub! Fantastic stay, 5 stars, already planning our next trip, would highly recommend staying here.

A beautiful sunny one-bed ground floor apartment. This recently refurbished flat features a living/ kitchen room with Freeview TV, ceramic hob, oven, microwave, kettle, fridge, and washing machine. Tea and coffee to help yourself. There is a spacious bedroom with stylish en-suite shower. There is a private car park to the front, and patio area to the rear with bicycle storage. Its also under 1 mile to the A38 and M1 J28.
This was once part of the old Sun Inn, probably built around 1800 and one of the oldest buildings surviving in the area. It was converted in 2017 and brought up to modern standards with high efficiency acoustic and thermal insulation to keep it private and cosy.
In the apartment is a folder with details of local restaurants and pubs and other bits and pieces that might be useful.

  • I highly recommend this place. The house is perfect for a couple. It feels very cosy and warm. It has plenty of parking area if you drive there. There was some food when we arrived like eggs, bread, cereals, milk, coffee and tea which we very much enjoyed it. There is a off license 2 minutes away from the place in case you need to buy something else. Also the fact that you dont need to arrange an arrival time as you're given a code to the main door and another one to get the house key makes it very easy.

  • I stayed here with a group of 15 adults and 4 children. We had both the south wing and the basement flat. Both were immaculate on arrival. The kitchens were well equipped and the lounges comfy with plenty of seating. We visited hardwick hall whilst staying here, it was only a short drive away and is well worth a visit. I would highly recommend a stay here.

This private ensuite room with kitchen is at The Reservoir House, just 2 minutes from Ogston Reservoir, a haven for walkers and birdwatchers. The beauty of the Peak District and the Chatsworth Estate is on the doorstep and yet it's close to J28 of the M1 with shopping and a choice of cities a short drive away. You’ll love this special hideaway because whilst you're only 5 minutes away from civilisation, it feels like another world.
You'll love sleeping in a king sized circular bed in our freshly decorated private suite at The Reservoir House. Our home is tucked behind the dam at the stunning Ogston Reservoir where Ellen McArthur learned to sail, time seems to stand still and we enjoy our own mild micro-climate.
Ogston is a very special place: just a handful of houses tucked away on the south east side of Ogston Reservoir, it's the perfect spot to combine a restful getaway with beautiful walks from the front door, with easy access to the glory of the Peak District in one direction or the city culture of Nottingham, Sheffield & Derby within a 40 minute drive. Ogston Reservoir lies in the beautiful Amber Valley and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The reservoir and surrounding area, with habitats including farmland and woodland, is one of Derbyshire’s premier bird watching sites and is home to Ogston Bird Club. It is an important site for spring and autumn passage migrants and is one of the country’s top inland sites for watching and recording Gull roosts during the winter months. If you look on you tube you'll find a few videos of the area, including a drone flight over the Reservoir.

The house is beautifully decorated and we really enjoyed all of the extra touches, especially the netflix and hot tub! Great location. Beautiful countryside right on your doorstep as well as a very well stocked co-op just down the road, as well as various places of interest to visit. House was extremely clean and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

  • Our stay at Elly's couldn't have been better: the house was lovely, the room spotlessly clean and comfy, and full of lots of well-thought-out touches (welcome pack, little snacks and a kettle). The breakfast spread was wonderful, and we enjoyed an interesting chat with Elly's mum in the morning too. As hosts ourselves, the stay inspired us to improve our own service. So we heartily recommend going to Elly's!

    Rob2015-10-28T00:00:00Z

Our lane is the best kept secret in Somercotes. It's semi rural with farmers fields at the end, has no through traffic which keeps it nice and quiet and I have the best neighbours for miles around. We have all lived here for years as it's very safe for our children to explore and play. The best local pubs are not really local and require a car but here they are:- The Steampacket, Derby Rd, Swanwick, DE55 1AB, 01773 607771, 2 miles away. Good real ales. The Dog, Main Rd, Pentrich DE5 3RE , 01773 513360. 3 miles away. Country pub set in the lovely village of Pentrich. Food better than standard pub grub and nicely decorated. Waggon and Horses, 9 King St, Alfreton, DE55 7AF 01773 545 890 is the nearest Weatherspoons. There are 3 pubs within walking distance (15mins) of my house and are real working men's pubs. I've only been to one called The Moulders Arms, 53 Church St, Riddings. Known locally as the Thack its a bit old fashioned in decor but has a good selection of beer. They do pipe local radio on the speakers though which we find a bit strange!
  • Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We have had a fabulous weekend with great friends and you have made us feel really comfortable. Communication was excellent and your home was just as described.

  • A three night stay here in October with our teenage son and the layout worked really well for us. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped throughout. Very friendly hosts let us store our bikes in the garage. A fabulous bolt hole in a great location.

  • Comfortable and clean little flat. We didn't meet the host but all communication was friendly and prompt. The sofa bed isn't as comfortable as a normal bed but that is to be expected and it was useful to be able to have extra people staying - although you do have to know each other well. Lovely surroundings. Appreciated the little touches of milk and tea etc as we arrived late with no supplies of our own.

This is the perfect venue to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary or meet up with friends. Home without hassel - a place to relax and let Susan take care of the cooking. Arrive around 3 pm to have your afternoon tea of home baked cake or tart waiting for you. The 3 course dinner is served dinner party style, cooked as you like - Coeliacs, vegetarians and vegans are catered for - the menu is agreed in advance so you can have your favourites or try something new.
Catered Cottage is traditional stone cottage with wonderful views and sleeps up to 6 adults + full size cot. Breakfast, afternoon tea and 3-course dinner party style evening meal for 4 guests is £280 per night (minimum 2 nights). No cooking, no shopping and no washing up - Susan your Chef is there to do that for you. The traditional stone cottage is comfortable and welcoming and has a country feel you will never forget! Guests have the whole of the cottage - during their stay - the chef uses the kitchen so you don't have to. There is garden with picnic table and wonderful view. Susan, your Chef cooks your breakfast, makes afternoon tea and prepares 3-course dinner party style evening meal - she has local knowledge and can direct you to most places. Catered Cottage sits on a quiet country lane, half way up a hill, surrounded by open fields and farms. Approx 20 minutes from the famous Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell and other famous landmarks. A car is really needed to get around immediate and surrounding countryside. The Cottage is 35 mins from East Midlands Airport.
  • Susan was great. We arrived very late to find home made soup/bread waiting for us. She was friendly and accommodating. Beds slept really well and the fireplace made the evenings warm and cozy. Looking forward to coming back soon!

    Deborah2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic time we all had. Susan is a perfect host, the food was great - it is so nice to go away and not have to cook! The setting is stunning and the surrounding area has so much to do - sightseeing, museums, cycling and generally spending time together as a family. Coming home at the end of a busy day to a freshly baked cake followed by a delicious 3 course dinner was pure heaven. The cottage is comfortable, relaxed and has everything you need and Susan is at hand for suggestions, guidance and general tips. If you enjoy catered chalets when skiing then this is for you.

  • Susan was the perfect hostess. Her place was charming and extremely clean. Eating there was like eating at a Michelin Restaurant. We will definitely come back.

    Dawn2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Susan's house with 3 friends and we all had a great time. Susan was a really friendly host and nothing was too much trouble for her. All the bedrooms were comfortable and had great views. The meals she provided were excellent and she contacted us beforehand to check out the menus. Our 2 days there exceeded my expectations and I would thoroughly recommend staying there.

    Sarah2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed at Susan's house for a long weekend break to celebrate our 20th Wedding anniversary in September 2017. We chose Susan's house for two reasons, first, it's location close to the Peak district which was an area we hadn't visited before and second, the fact that it was catered solution which meant we didn't have to go out to restaurants/pubs every evening and or cook our own food. The whole end to end process of menu selection with Susan was made simple by good communication from the outset with Susan first asking for details of foods we liked/didn't like, she then proposed a menu for each of the 4 days we were there. We then made amendments based on our preferences all of which were taken by Susan and an updated menu provided with which we were happy with. In terms of the food provided, Susan is an excellent cook and all meals were cooked to a very high level and were extremely enjoyable with good sized portions which were more than satisfying. The afternoon cakes freshly baked by Susan and left for us to enjoy when we returned from our trips were excellent and made a lovely snack with a cup of tea or coffee on our return. I did notice an earlier comment from another guest about Susan's presence in the property, while yes, Susan is in the property for about 30 minutes prior to breakfast service and about 1.5 hours prior to the evening meal she is totally happy to either cook and allow you to have peace and quiet or to engage in conversations with you. We didn't find her presence intrusive at all and found her to be an very interesting person from our conversations with her. The location of the property is excellent with some lovely views out of the rooms and within easy distance of the south East of the peak district, Chatsworth was about 25 minutes drive away, same for Bakewell and also Wirksworth (where Susan provided us an excellent recommendation to visit the artisan fair that was taking place). I highly recommend Susan's property for people who want to have their own space in terms of a complete house stay but with the facilities of a hotel in that all the cooking is carried out for you. Many thanks Susan for a lovely weekend.

    Mark2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage - quite remote but pretty, well appointed and peaceful . Susan is a great host and an excellent cook . She engages a long time in advance of your stay to suggest menus and was happy to accept some of our ideas and convert to gluten free to cater for one of our party . The food was excellent and the portions generous for 4 hungry male walkers . Good value . Thanks Susan .

    Richard 2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house was lovely and in a great location with nice views. We had come here to relax - and actually get some work done- our house is having work done on it. We chose the venue because of the breakfast and dinner. In reality there were too many rules for us and a lack of flexibility. The food preparation takes much more than half an hour meaning that the kitchen is out of bounds for about three hours in the evening ( 6.00 - to about 9.00) and in the morning for two hours - 9.00 - 11.0. We had not realised that this would mean that Susan was around for this time ( she had to be as she was cooking the food) but meant there was little privacy - had not expected all the food to be cooked in the kitchen. This was difficult because the kitchen leads to the downstairs bathroom and door outside . There is also no access to a washing machine - my fault as I should have checked - but it is usually standard in a country cottage. The food was fine, but would argue not dinner party - but decent cooking. Not always to our taste - but that may be us - and portions large. Our final breakfast was not good - but it is quite difficult to say anything. All in all a disappointment for what promised to be a lovely cottage stay with added meals.

    Jane2016-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is even more beautiful than in the pictures. It's down a quaint country lane with cows in the field behind the house, whilst being a walkable distance to a local pub and a drivable distance to sites like bakewell and chatsworth. Susan was a very friendly host, readily offering us advice on the local area and replying promptly to questions before arrival. We had a few dietary requirements in the group and she was very happy to create a bespoke food menu to meet our different needs, which exceeded our expectations and was utterly delicious. There are a few standard house rules you need to abide by, but these are clearly marked on the site. But I would recommend you remind yourself of them before visiting, as for us there was a large amount of time between booking and when we arrived, that they weren't top of mind (but we quickly adapted without problems, and it's things like taking your shoes off before entering the house).

Detached house tucked away down a country lane, with lovely views over local countryside. Four bedrooms, large light lounge with south facing windows and private rear garden. Parking for two cars on driveway and rear patio area ideal for BBQ's or a quiet G&T after a day exploring the local area. Fitted kitchen, dining room, utility with ample storage for bikes etc, bathroom with bath and shower and downstairs W/C. Very well located for Matlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth House and local towns. Derby is 20 minutes drive and there is also a bus route close to the house.
Snowdrop Valley is a quiet unmade country lane, only serving a handful of properties. It is also only 5 minutes walk from the village centre, where you will find a mini-market, cafe, bakery, restaurant, post office and hairdressers. There are also a couple of pubs and churches within the village as well as a medical centre and The Glebe community centre with a variety of activities going on. There are lovely country walks with footpaths starting just 100 yards from the house and as Crich is set on top of a hill, there are nice views of the the area from many places in and around the house and village.

  • We received a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was warm and cosy, and close to local amenities, including pubs, Indian restaurant, fish and chip shop and a few other shops. We really appreciated the tea, coffee, milk, sugar etc which were supplied.

    Helen 2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a lovely area with some basic amenities available locally (supermarket, chippy, takewaway etc), however from the pictures we did think that the house was much more rural than what it is, it is in a built up residential area. The house is very basic but has everything needed to stay, it was lovely and warm when we arrived although some bigger pans and cooking pots wouldn't go amiss considering the amount of people the property can sleep. On arrival John is very helpful.

  • Clean, comfortable, basic house within easy reach of lots of Derbyshire attractions. Host was easily contacted and available to answer queries prior to arrival.

  • We had a fantastic time in Derbyshire and John's place played a big part of that. It is very homely indeed. Would definitely recommend (particularly to larger groups as it has four double rooms) and would definitely consider staying there again. Great value IMO!

Enjoy the freedom of Derbyshire in this cosy little campervan. We call him Peebo. He's a Nissan NV200 so he's easy to drive and park and comes fully insured and with UK breakdown cover. He sleeps one or two people (the seat pulls out to make a small double bed about 3ft 6 inches by 6ft long). There's also a gas hob (2 burners), sink (hand pumped water), fridge, smart pop-up roof and blackout blinds for the windows.
Crockery, cutlery and pots and pans and washing up bowl, table and chairs for use outside are included. Cooking gas is also included. You need to bring bedding or sleeping bags, food etc. A bike rack can be added for £7 per day and a wind break is £1 per day. The bike rack takes two bikes.
We're ideally situated for the White and Dark Peak districts, Derbyshire Dales and Amber Valley. Each has its own distinct character offering a mix of fresh air, pretty towns and villages, good pubs and cafes, historic sites and beautiful views. Cycling and walking can be hilly or flat, depending on your preference and there are always plenty of café stops along the way. Of course, you are not confined to Derbyshire, and are very welcome to head anywhere in England, Wales or Scotland.

The tea/coffee making facilities and in/room basket breakfast was ideal for the latter. The room is furnished in minimalist style. Very comfy bed. A chair for placing clothes etc would be useful but there is a clothes rail with hangers. Excellent shower and spotlessly clean bathroom (As elsewhere too) but men should rely on a wet shave as there is no socket for an electric razor that I could see. All taken in to account, an ideal and economic stay which suited our purposes well.

  • Clive and Mary welcomed us and made us feel very at home, even though it was just a brief stopover. Lovely room, comfy bed and great selection in the breakfast basket. Thanks to you both.

  • Very nice place to stay, friendly atmosphere. Clive and Ruth were very accommodating. Great location, nice pubs within easy walking distance. Would definately stay again.

    Gwen2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Clive & Ruth's house while traveling in the UK. They are very kind, warm, and helpful to us. The room was perfect. Clean, bright, and big! Bathroom too. Also, in the room, there was a basket with full of fruits, snacks, milk, coffee, etc. We were so touched by everthing in Crich. I definitely recommend here if someone is looking for a place to stay near Derbyshire!!

    Ally2017-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Many thanks for a fantastic stay. It was much more than we were expecting in terms of location, friendliness, cleanliness and great tips for food and walk suggestions. I thought the hello-welcome-hot/cold drink was a lovely touch together with the bathrobes and the multi-variety breakfast basket. Such thoughtfulness! We would love to come back in the future as Crich as a lot of wonderful walks as it's a great base for other amazing routes to the rest of the Peak District. Much peace, Bren and Andy xx

  • Liz and her husband were very nice, they welcome me when I arrived and showed me the room. It was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and the house and area invite you to rest. I was able to have some dinner in the room and go to sleep almost immediately. Brinsley is beautiful, and the horses around the house give you a sense to have a deep contact with nature than only contemplate the amazing English countryside. I definitely recommend Liz's home if you want to visit Derby.

4 Bedroom Basement apartment of the main farmhouse at Amber Mill Farm Holiday Village
The Basement Apartment is part of the main Farmhouse known as Amber Mill Farm. The property was built circa 1790 and is grade 2 listed with the basement being a magnificent example of stone masonry work achieved in that period, even more amazing when you consider that all the construction would have been done without any type of mechanical help that we have come to take for granted in today's high tech construction age. The basement apartment consist of living room/dinging room, 2 double bedrooms, 2 single bedrooms, en-suite to master double bedroom and a family bathroom. All of the bedroom have outside windows except for 1 single bedroom making it feel quite light and airy. Full Sky TV package and wireless internet access. The heating of the property is all underfloor keeping it at a constant level making it truly a venue for a really memorable stay. Access to the children s play park and picnic area is no further than 20 meters from the apartment.
All the following attractions are within the local area. Theme parks and children's activities: Alton Towers, Gullivers Kingdom, Cable cars and amusements at Matlock Bath. National buildings and monuments: Crich Stand, Wingfield Manor, Chatsworth House, Riber Castle, Haddon Hall. For walking and cycling enthusiasts: High Peak Trail, Carsington Water, Derbyshire Dales. Other local attractions include: Crich tramway museum and the famous towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock
  • Such an amazing place! My colleagues loved every minute of their stay. I'm looking at what dates I can visit myself! Get place and great communication thanks so much for hosting us xx

  • Lovely family accommodation near to shops and scenery is amazing, definitely come again, thank to Vic for a memorable new year stay!

    kathleen2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the Farmhouse Basement apartment. Vic was a great host and as well as providing good accomodation showed us and the children his animals and let them feed the chickens, sheep and other animals. Small issues were that although there are 2 bathrooms, only 1 has a shower, and also the fridge could be bigger.

    Vinod2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • I rented the house for the weekend for a group of Slimming World Consultants training in Alfreton. It is perfectly located for this. We received a call before we were due to stay to ask if there was anything at all that we needed. I asked whether there happened to be a coffee machine there and was told that they would arange this; a French press was left for our use in the kitchen. The only downside to the house was the lack of additional showers (just the one in the ensuite). But with 5 of us sharing the apartment, we managed adequately. Overall, a great stay at the Farm and what an amazing outdoor space if you have children - the 'Wendy House' was out of this world - just wish I was small enough to go and explore what might better be described as a 'Wendy Mansion'!

Our guest bedroom is large and quiet and overlooks the garden and fields. There is an area to sit in your room and have a cuppa and read a magazine or paper.
We love living in our village; there is a church, post office, two pubs, convenience store, pizza/fish and chip shop and off licence. There are excellent walks in the village, but some excellent places to visit just a short drive away.

Set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside in the village of Crich, this cosy 200 year old cottage, with its 2 up 2 down design, is an ideal base for walking, climbing, cycling, exploring and sightseeing, or simply getting away from it all.
The cottage is around 200 years old and is adjacent to the owners’ own cottage. The cosy cottage, a 2 up 2 down designed for 1 or 2 persons has been modernised to a high standard and is centrally heated throughout. It is in a very quiet location but only 50 yards from the village market place with many local amenities including pubs serving food, a post office, and our own unique artisan bakery, cafe and deli, called 'the loaf'. It’s quirky in that the living room and kitchen are upstairs whilst the bedroom and shower room are on the ground floor. This is to make the best of the view towards the nearby village of Fritchley. The living room is furnished with a sofa, a table and chairs, a TV/DVD, a Radio/CD player and has a feature fireplace. There is a selection of games, books, DVDs and tourist literature provided. The kitchen has a gas cooker and fridge with freezer compartment. There is a queen size double bed with storage drawers, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bathroom has a self contained shower, sink and loo.
With easy access to the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District it is the perfect base for a holiday. The village itself is home to the famous Crich Tramway Village and was used as the location for the TV series “Peak Practice”.
  • Roger and Andrew made were most welcoming and helpful. We had a wonderful stay in Halcyon cottage and Crich which is a gem of a place.

    Helen2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little private cottage, the space is small but just fine for 2 people, I would happily stay here again. the location is excellent close to all the village shops but still quiet and private.

    Joanne2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcome in Halcyon Cottage. It is a very intimate, cosy, tiny cottage with everything you need to sleep, bath, eat and relax. We didn't have any time to enjoy Rogers garden because there was too much to do in the area. There are plenty of possibilities to walk, a lot of cultural heritage and lively pubs. We can also very much recommand a breakfast in Rogers bakery! Our holiday there was fantastic.

    Ilse2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Roger is a lovely host and the cottage is small but cosy. There is one double bedroom downstairs with ensuite and a galley style kitchen and living room upstairs. Very close to pub and small supermarket in a busy little village.

    Yvonne2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Roger was very communicate beforehand and very welcoming on arrival, including having stocked a few little bits of food in the house. The house was lovely. Would definitely recommend!

    Iain2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip was amazing. The cottage was beautiful, Andrew & Roger left us scones and fresh bread which were perfect for breakfast and we were in a great location to visit surrounding towns. We wish we could have stayed longer!

    Chris2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying in this beautifully compact cottage! Was very clean and tidy with everything you'd need including lovely scones and bread from the bakery. The garden is beautiful and it was nice to sit outside. We visited Dovedale nature reserve and Alton Towers, both are only 40 minutes away. Andrew recommended a great place for dinner which was only a short walk away.

    Kerry2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • So quaint. Perfect for two. Location quiet and perfect for visiting all our relatives. Andrew was there when we arrived and explained everything we needed to know - particularly about the best way to park! It was a bit tricky. Met Roger later. The scones, bread and home made marmalade left for us were greatly appreciated as was the comprehensive instruction/guide folder. Had breakfast at "the loaf" next day and my wife could not help herself when confronted with the other offerings and had to buy morning tea. Had evening meal at the Old Black Swan Saturday night. Lovely. Just what was needed on a wet miserable night.

Our house is situated on a cul de sac of only 5 houses so it is very quiet and peaceful with no traffic noise. We are next to a wood, with fields at the back of the house and great views over the valley at the front. Ambergate is a hilly village with great walks, interesting woodland to explore, a river, Cromford canal, pub, train station, fish & chip shop, Chinese restaurant and petrol station with mini-market. Belper, an historic mill town with a great choice of cafes, shops, pubs and restaurants, is 2 miles away. We're well placed for access to the many attractions of Derbyshire, including the Peak District, Chatsworth House, Kedleston Hall and Arkwright's Mill at Cromford.
  • Ann and John's place is lovely. Centrally located for climbing, mountain biking and lots of the other tourist attractions that the Peak District has to offer. The room was better that what you you would find in a hotel, with a cosy private lounge (with tea and biscuits) and bathroom. The bed was super comfy and with stunning views from every window. However the best part of our stay was the breakfasts John served us every morning. Fresh fruit, warm toast, cereals, croissants, brioche and a full English breakfast all washed down with fresh orange juice and coffee! John and Ann made our stay comfortable enough to feel at home but with the all the luxuries that come with staying in a hotel. Amazing hospitality from a truly lovely couple!

    Samantha2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • My third stay and another wonderful night's sleep. Took the opportunity this time to run in the ancient and protected Ambergate woods, on John's recommendation, perfect for an evening stroll or sprint.

    Darren2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Quite location with superb views over the Amber valley. A fantastic fried breakfast cooked by John set me up for a geology field day in SE Derbyshire. Nice space with my own facilities to relax and unwind after a busy day in the field. A nice pub within walking distance for evening meal and a drink.

    William2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was a return visit for me to Ann & John’s place and I can safely say that it is one that we would return to on a frequent basis. It is most definitely a favourite! Ann & John are so warm and welcoming, the place is immaculate and the breakfast always what is needed! It’s a great place to stay. Thank you again!

    Janice2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Ann and John are perfect hosts and the accommodation is just right. Having a 'suite' to oneself, with comfy armchairs in the bedroom as well as a separate sitting room and TV and its own bathroom was most enjoyable. We could not have felt more welcome and hope to return some time in the future.

    Jackie2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ann and John were extremely welcoming, kind and friendly hosts. The accommodation was spotless and very comfortable with wonderful views over the valley. John's breakfast was exactly what I needed for the day! A great place to stay - thank you.
