Places to stay in Achill Sound

Places to stay in Achill Sound
Achill is a delight to the senses. Woven and beaten beautifully by the crash of the powerful Atlantic Ocean. Stunning coastline views around every corner. Achill is steeped in history and this adds to its stark beauty. My home is at the gateway into Achilll within walking distance of pubs and supermarket. An ideal base to set off exploring all Achill has to offer, cycling mountain hikes, abseiling, snorkeling, kite surfing, cave discovery or meditation. Achill has it all and more. 😁
My house is a 3 bedroom semidetached house. It has its own car park space. It has an open fire in sitting room and a lovely stove in kitchen. There is a small back garden with access at back to the shoreline.
My house is in a small housing development in the village itself. It has all amenities within walking distance. Coffee Shop, Pharmacy, Library, Pubs, Hotels, Supermarket, Art Gallery, Tourist Office, Church
  • Achill is a spectacular place. Mary's house is ideally situated for exploring the island with local amenities such as shops and pubs within easy strolling distance. The house was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed and to have the turf fire all laid out just waiting for a match was lovely. We brought our dogs and they settled very easily and loved the beaches. The peace and tranquility of the island is perfect and the scenery is breathtaking. We look forward to returning .

  • Mary’s house is a great base for Exploring Achill and surrounding areas - Newport , Westport etc. In a small estate- the house was very clean with lovely modern bathroom; kitchen had everything we needed. Picnic table in cute little garden. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Views from bedroom / bathroom skylight windows upstairs lovely. Real Paul Henry! We were so busy exploring, cycling the Greenway from Newport to Achill, surfing, climbing / hill-walking at Keem, doing Atlantic drives etc etc. that we hadn’t a lot of time in house but it was very pleasant to come home to and we even lit the turf fire on a few evenings. All round positive experience! Elspeth (Wicklow) Daniel, Stephanie and Kilian(age5). (Berlin)

  • Great place to relax after long treks.

    Karl2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place. Walking distance to pub, chipper and cafe. Great location to base yourself for the green way and drive to beaches.

    Sha2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place was so lovely to stay in. She had the both fires set & ready for us & had all the basics you would need inc milk in the fridge & also fruit & crisps so you could just arrive & settle right in. It’s a great base for Achill but if you want to stay in it has a good size sit in kitchen & a picnic table in the garden with lovely views. It’s very peaceful & relaxing. There is no wi fi but enforced phone detox was a very good thing after the initial realisation. I properly switched off & spent one afternoon lazing on the bed reading before going to the local pub McLoughlins where the locals including Mary’s neighbours were gathered for a Sunday night music session. We had a great time - all ages were there taking turns singing for better or worse. We loved them all.

  • Great location for access to the island, really enjoyed our stay!

    Hannah2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Booked this place for a getaway from the hustle and bustle from the city and it spectacularly overachieved. Achill is an incredible place and Mary is a fantastic host. I arrived early and Mary had not only collected half of the leaflets from the local tourism office(!) with things to do, but talked me through various cycle routes, hikes and walks on the island and left me with a bunch of provisions for picnics - over and above what I could expect. The house does the job perfectly - there's a turf stove in the kitchen and a fireplace, and it's within a stone's throw of some great pubs. People are incredibly friendly and May is a phenomenal time to go, with the entire island covered in the most beautiful flowers. Cannot recommend Achill and Mary's house enough.

  • This AirBnb was perfect for us! We loved staying in this little house for our holidays. Carmel was really nice to us and gave us some nice tips for our trips. The dog, Bella, welcomed us every morning with a ball to play with her. We fully recommend this AirBnb and we would love to stay there again!

  • Super welcome after arriving at 3am ...

    Laure2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay, Carmel was very friendly and helpful. She even brought us in some extra bits as we stayed during a storm. This is a beautiful place to get away for a few days.

    Diego2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Carmels cottage is a great stop on Achill Island. Right across from the Atlantic and within a short drive of many great walks and sights. The place was clean, had lots of amenities, and the wood stove at the end of the day was a nice touch. Make sure to throw the ball for Bella! She is a super friendly pup!

  • Carmel is a great host and was very welcoming. Everything was much better than expected, the place is really cozy! Can only recommend staying there, Achill is a nice place if you’re looking for a good time in the nature. And if you like dogs (even if you don’t), you will love Bella!

  • Derek’s Cottage is beautiful. It’s warm, clean and cosy! Well stocked with everything you need!

    Kerrie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • An unforgettable stay in the Derek mansion. The warmth of the stove The gentle presence of free-ranging sheep The sublime harshness of the landscapes The joy of finally finding yourself in a quiet place cut off from the world, a unique cocoon. Thanks Derek :)

  • Fantastic little cottage with everything you could possibly need in a beautiful remote part of Achill. We stayed here over the Christmas period and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beds were very comfortable. Cottage was warm and cosy (central heating plus a stove which had all the fuel you needed). Very well stocked kitchen. Books, board games, DVDs, even a paddle board and wet suits, it was a very well equipped cottage and Derek was great to communicate with. Highly recommend!

The twin room is located upstairs in our home with spectacular views of Achill Island and the Atlantic Ocean. It has two single beds with shared access to an upstairs bathroom and kitchen. Our farmhouse is centred in our quiet and peaceful 10 hectare farm with panoramic views of the mountains and sea. Breakfast cereals, juice, milk, bread with tea & coffee is provided also fresh farm produce from our garden when in season. We are just off the Wild Atlantic Way with a short walk to the sea
The shared kitchen has a fridge with a small freezer, kettle, coffee maker, sink, and small table top hob cooker with an oven. Our farmhouse is set in the countryside. You will enjoy the quiet and peaceful setting with perhaps the sounds of the birds and animals grazing being your only interruption. We are 5km from Ballycroy National Park Visitor's Centre. We have a beautiful, secluded beach nearby with sand dunes. Ballycroy National Park Visitor's Centre celebrates and exhibits our unique landscape and wildlife alongside our traditions and customs, with regular workshops and guided walks and talks throughout the summer season. Admission and parking are free as well as a shuttle bus which operates between the centre and the park. At night, the vast and sparsely populated countryside gives way to the magical wonders of the dark sky. Ballycroy and surrounds have been internationally acclaimed as one of the premier destinations to view the night sky. Over 4,500 twinkling stars along with planets, The Milky Way and even meteor showers are all visible with the naked eye on a clear night in Ballycroy.
From our farmhouse, you are centrally located to explore and experience all the best this region has to offer. Ballycroy is a hidden gem yet to be explored by tourists. It is a small, quiet, rural village home to the acclaimed Ballycroy National Park Visitor's Centre and Ginger & Wild Cafe. We have a country style pub, Cafferkey's which provides lunchtime meals and B&B accomodation, free community playground along with a shop with petrol pumps, post office, garda station, school, Roman Catholic Church and Community Centre. We have a very active community and we all do our part to preserve our inherited landscape, culture and traditions. If you are feeling energenic, we can arrange bicycle hire with shuttle bus on the Great Western Greenway or sailing with Bellacragher Bay Boat Club. We have excellent walking, cycling, fishing, rowing and sailing opportunities in the vicinity. While nestled in a horseshoe of the mountains of the Wild Nephin Park, Ballycroy opens to the Atlantic Ocean. On our west is the majestic Achill Island and to our north are Doohoma head and the Belmullet Islands. A 15 minute scenic drive will bring you to Mulranny where you will find a blue flag beach with breathtaking views of Clew Bay and a beautiful hotel with pubs and restuarants galore. We are 25 minute drive from Achill Island, renowed for its picturesque beauty and home to Keem Bay, selected as the third most beautiful beach in the world by Condé Nast Traveller. The friendly town of Belmullet, the heart of Erris, is a 30 minute drive and head along the Mullet Pennisula to see the unspoiled, majestic beauty of the true Wild Atlantic Way.
  • Very nice house with an incredible view. The kitchen has everything you need and there's a local pub close by (at least with a car).

  • Martin & Breege's cottage, Pierview, is pretty perfect. Location by the water was beautiful. The cottage was so clean and the decor was fab. We wanted for nothing. From a big basket of logs for the stove to the nicest fresh scones made by Breege ( so yummy there was nearly a family fued over them....I won out 😁) and everything in between. Check-in and out was hassle free and plenty of info on local amenities and places to visit. Martin and Breege couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Would defo highly recommend a stay at Pierview Cottage if you are visiting Achill

    Siobhan2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage by the water, accessible to all areas on the island, comfortable and warm, and we were made extremely welcome by Breege and Martin who had laid out scones, wine, and even a little birthday touch for my wife - such a lovely spot with lovely people.

    Andrew2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a 5 star accommodation, lovely cottage in a fabulous location. Great views, lovely fiendly hosts and great little touches. Would 100% recommend anybody to stay here whilst visiting the lovely island.

    Lisa2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don't do this place justice! We really loved it - the location is perfect for exploring Achill Island and not too far from the supermarket - essential for supplies! Martin & Breege were great hosts - nothing was too much trouble and the cooked lobster with a bottle of wine was just a treat!

    Michael2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cottage in a very beautiful location overlooking the water, fishing boats and in the distance. Warm, very clean and big. Fine scones and a fire in the kitchen make the stay perfect. A big thank you to Martin and Breege

    Deborah2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage in a wonderful location. We were met by a true Achill welcome; Martin and Breege are fantastic hosts. Their cottage is spotlessly clean, thoughtfully laid out and tastefully decorated. We were 30 steps from the sea and my three boys were very happy here. We hope to visit Pier View Cottage again soon. If thinking of booking, don’t hesitate. You will not be disappointed.

    Angeline2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • From start to finish everything about our stay was 5 stars. From the initial booking to check out Martin and Breege couldn't have been more helpful. The house and setting was amazing. The views were stunning. The thoughtful touches in the house such as the homemade scones provided by Breege to the tasty crab claws Martin had caught and dropped into us. 5 star accommodation with 5 star hosts in a 5 star location. Can't wait to be back!!

  • A cozy house in a quiet spot on Achill Island. Jane was well-organized and a fantastic host! I very much enjoyed the friendly chats and great breakfast. Highly recommended!

    Patrick2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Jane was fantastic. I had 4 of 5 stays in Ireland via AirBnB and Achill had been the best. The house was easy to find - which was good as I was coming over directly from Dublin on my 1st day in Ireland. Jane had a lot of tips and stories to tell. As she loves Achill and I love my home region we had quite a lot to talk about :-) Additionally she made breakfast, lots of it. I definitely recommend staying with her.

  • Deborah's cottage is so cosy! It was really warm, even though we were there in Autumn. The bed was really comfortable. The kitchen has plenty of utensils if you're cooking yourself. There's also lovely artwork by Deborah covering the walls which is a great addition. Such a beautiful location with amazing views of the coast very near by. We were cycling around the island and found this doable. In the off-season there aren't many pubs/restaurants open during the week, but we did find the Annexe Inn in Pollagh which is a proper local pub with a lovely fire. Thanks for having us!

  • Very comfortable for two; also has some artwork from the host on display.

    Douglas2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cottage which we found spacious and warm and would have stayed a little longer! Nevertheless, it lacks some basic elements to gain even more comfort: a sponge, a cloth, a mirror in the bathroom without which it is impossible to shave, a bin for non-recyclable waste. The rest of the equipment is really nice (heating, WiFi, bedding ...).

    Dany2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah's place was perfect for us. Located in a lovely quiet spot. Good kitchen facilities. Nice comfortable lounge with tv and Netflix. Great big bedroom with comfortable double bed. Bathroom with shower and plenty of towels. Did not meet Deborah but she was available on text message. Would definitely go back. Thanks Deborah x

Located a short distance from the beaches of Dugort and Keel, the Deserted Village, and many antiquities, it is a great place for a holiday. Views from the sumptuous living and dining area were completely unobstructed of Blackbog Bay. Excellent parking close to the rooms. Very comfortable in winter and it would be outstanding in summer.

  • Great place. lovely hosts. 5 star all round.

  • All good here, enjoyed a nice stay here with my son for 1 night. We were cycling around Achill and stayed here on our second night. Host was very nice, room was clean. Continental breakfast included which was great and also the option to upgrade to full irish for small fee.

  • We have enjoyed our stay. The room is confortable, clean and there is a private toilet. The bathroom is good too. The kitchen has the essentials. We benefited from a warm welcome. The breakfast is very well-served. Aisling did not reply to our messages on the website but she was very responsive on the phone.

  • Amazing location, beautiful coast scenery. Such a beautiful clean lodge, perfect for a weekend away!

    Gigi2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great view of a spectacular, wild beach. Very adequate, modern place to stay. The deserted village is well worth driving or walking to - takes about 1 - 1.5 hours to get there on foot. The only place open for food in January was the Amethyst pub which was quite nice.

    Aidan2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, modern, conviennent, great location, everything you could need. Superb sunsets and crystal clear skies at night. Great access to the beach for morning walks.

    Philip2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Teresa's place is amazing, the views are just breathtaking and so many beautiful spots on the island to explore. The lodge we stayed in was compact, warm, cozy and so comfortable, everything we needed was there waiting for us !

    Lisa2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay our stay at Teresa's place, our second. The space is well laid out, and extremely comfortable. We had everything we needed, and everything we needed worked to perfection when we needed it. The setting at Teresa's is extremely conducive to relaxing; the views out the back of the sea, sky, and mountains are good for the spirit. And when we needed the kind of comfort only a friendly cat can provide, Sunny the cat was there. Wish we could have stayed longer, hope we can return again someday. Thanks Teresa!

Bright airy Chalet, I large double bedroom, toilet and shower. Open plan living space with Kitchen that opens out onto small decking area and large garden. There is a fold out sofa in the living space, which sleeps 2. It would be most suitable for 1 person, but can be used for 2 if you don't mind a bit of a squeeze!! Central heating & Solid fuel stove.
Chalet is situated beside the Golf Course and beach, 5 minutes from the picturesque village of Mulranny, 20 minutes from Achill Island and 30 minutes from Westport. The Chalet is on it's own grounds with separate area suitable for letting dogs out. It is on a quiet road, with access to the Golf Course and beach. The garden is suitable for sitting out or perhaps having a barbecue, weather permitting! As we are beekeepers, maybe not suitable for small children. There is also a small pond in the garden. Ideal location for a quiet break or an activity holiday With walking, hiking, fishing, boating, surfing, kayaking, cycling and golf all within a stone's throw this is the perfect location.
Murrevagh is 5 minutes from Mulranny village, with Hotel, pubs, shops and Takeaway. The Golf Course and beach are 2 minutes away. The Mulranny Blue flag beach is 5 minutes away. The Great Western Greenway is also just a minute away.
  • It was great finding Ciara’s place traveling at this time and needing a kitchen to cook in. She kept good touch with us as we arrived. Had everything we needed and were able to take a morning run to the beach, see Achill Island, and get some nice warm showers. Probably the best night’s sleep I’ve had the whole time honestly. It was also very easy to find and lots of amenities for comfort. Imagine this place is a gem when the summer weather is here and the beach is a little less blustery!

    Kayla2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I hope we'll be back soon! The house is beautiful, near from beach and islands! Ciara takes care of us with little attentions! We enjoyed our stay!!!

    Justine2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay at Ciara’s place . A fantastic place which suits all my needs . I hope to be back again soon !

    Tom2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint little space, lovely interior, all the appliances we needed for cooking and baking were at hand. Great area nearby, local beach and golf course nearly on the doorstep while a town/village type place (Mulranny) and larger beach is just a short walk away. Abundant beauty in the surrounding area, Achill Island is only a short drive away and has so many great views to offer. Would highly reccomend to anyone that wants to have a quiet, peaceful few days and would like to take in some breathtaking views.

    James2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ciara’s place is fabulous ! A perfect location to explore Mulranny. It is beautifully done out and excellent value for money . I’ll definitely be back thanks Ciara !

    Tom2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely would recommend to anyone! Nice and clean place with thoughtful touches. :)

    Valerija2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ciara has lovely place, in lovely location and only a stone throw to the beach. Everything you need at Ciara’s place and nothing was too much trouble. Ciara greeted us, got the heating on and gave us quick guide to the locality. If you want great access to Westport and Achill but want the freedom to walk to the beach or the village for the local pub or Indian then this is the place to stay. 5 Stars and highly recommended 👍 plus dogs are catered for in the enclosed fenced garden and welcomed.

    Chris2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for visiting Achill Island and the surrounding area! Spotless chalet with everything you need for a nice break, the host Ciara is also very helpful, an overall great stay!

  • We have just arrived home from a long weekend in Achill. The house is just beautiful. Waking up to the views everyday was an incredible experience. Literally beauty at every angle. Kevin was a superb host. Communicative and friendly and made sure we were well looked after. We will definitely be back and will recommend to our friends and family.

  • The Achill house was a treasure! The gorgeous views; were ever-changing. The location for privacy, serenity, and drives that had breathtaking views were wonderful.

    Joan2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful retreat right on the beach. A nice roomy house, a perfect spot for families or couples alike. I would highly recommend Kevin’s home to anyone looking for accommodations on Achill Island.

    Ellen2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in Achill. Kevin is a really considerate host and this was the perfect location to trace our Achill heritage. We never tired of the stunning views of the bay from the house and it’s the perfect base to explore one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland.

    Katie2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in a wonderful house. The nature is beatiful an the area is really very quiet. Our children were able to play in the garden and our daughter was amazed about the sheep, walking around outside the garden. There`s a beach you can go and the house is really very big an nice. Kevin is a great host who was looking for us and gave many advices to us. It was very important for him, that weare glad. On Achill Island there are many possibilities to do. We made wonderful hikes and enjoyed nature and rest. The time was too short, so we will come back again.

    Claudia2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot. Quiet, stunning surrounds, kids loved having direct access to what is a great beach. Many happy hours spent by the kids exploring. Achill is well worth a visit. Very friendly, some great pubs and places to eat. Possibly the best beach in the UK for us after visiting the most westerly point of the island, Keem bay.

    Keith2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful house right beside a quiet beach in Achill. The house has lots of space and is very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The highlight for us was the big, cosy living/dining room with a stove, a huge table, comfy sofas and big windows overlooking the sea. There is a great kitchen which has everything you need including washing machine and dishwasher. The bathrooms are modern and clean. Bedrooms are clean and comfortable with lots of storage. The back garden leads down to a quiet beach with amazingly clear, shallow and calm water. Our kids had fun walking on the beach and looking for crabs when the tide was out. Cloughmore is a lovely quiet area with great scenery. You can go on a short walk up the road to a stunning cliff area looking out over the sea, with lots of sheep for company. Kevin was a great host and kept in touch to check we had everything we needed and to provide some tips on the area

A really comfortable, vintage RV (winnebago), parked beside our home and farm. Comprising of two single beds, a closet, a bathroom, a kitchen with a fridge, mircowave oven, gas cooker, kettle and toaster and a dining area. We provide breakfast cereals, juice, milk, bread, tea and coffee with fresh farm produce from our garden, when in season. Just 5 minutes off the Wild Atlantic Way in a tranquil farm setting with beautiful views of Achill Island, the Mullet pennisula and the Atlantic ocean.
The spacious RV is beside our home with spectacular views of Achil Island and the surrounding country side, where you are sure to see sheep grazing happily. Our farmhouse is set in the countryside. You will enjoy the quiet and peaceful setting with perhaps the sounds of the birds and animals grazing being your only interruption. We are 5km from Ballycroy National Park Visitor's Centre and just off Wild Atlantic Way with a short walk to the sea.
We have a country style pub which provides lunchtime meals, Cafferkey's and B&B accomodation, free community playground along with a shop with petrol pumps, post office, garda station, school, Roman Catholic Church and Community Centre.
  • My partner and I made a last minute decision to stay in Mary’s caravan. We arrived late; maybe 9.30pm. Mary greeted us and brought us inside for tea and toast while her husband and kids prepared the RV. The RV itself was immaculate, with the photos shown being an accurate description of what to expect inside! We’d stayed on a windy night so the caravan shook a little while we slept but nothing crazy! There was no WiFi but our signal was good and we didn’t need the use of our phones as it was just a place to stay the night! A very accommodating host and a novelty stay; would definitely stay again. Also, the caravan was on the set of Father Ted which we both found to be a story in itself!

  • Staying with Mick and family is a amazing experience. The room is good, big, clean and has a great bed. Warm toast in the morning what else could you need. The home is located at one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen. Public beaches are nearby, great pubs and a lot of unforgettable nature. Mick is a very welcoming host, and the whole family is just one bundle of joy. Play with the kids or cuddle one of the many cats or dog. Or are you looking for a more private time, no problem at all, you’ve got your own place to stay without being bothered. The family really takes care of your needs. No need to look further, just go with Mick.

My 2-bed cottage is close to Dugort's Silver Strand Blue Flag beach. Couples, single adventurers, and small families will be very comfortable here while they explore Achill Island.
Christina's cottage is in a beautiful seaside location beside the Silver Strand Blue Flag beach in Dugort. It is adjacent to 'The Cottage' coffee shop and it's attached to Christina's own home. The Strand Hotel and Oriental restaurant is only a 5 min. walk away. Masterson's Bar and Restaurant on the Golden Strand is only a three min. drive, and Pure Magic restaurant is an 8 min. drive. The beds are new and very comfortable, and the cottage is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing self-catering holiday.
Dugort is an original 'Clachan' village nestled at the foot of Slievemore mountain and overlooking the Silver Strand. The buildings have a social relationship to each other rather than an architectural one, and Dugort is a higgeldy-piggedly village of whitewashed cottages with old world charm. It's been a haven for artists and writers for centuries, with Nobel Laureate Heinrich Boll and painters Paul and Grace Henry only a few of its famous former residents.
  • Located on the western edge of Europe so you can expect big skies, four seasons in a day. The house is a bit dated and may be damp in winter, but Christina will have the heating running and the house stocked with essentials you might forget (milk, tootbrushes, chocolate, oil and vinegar). Very friendly host.

    Declan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Better than expectations, spotless clean, cosy home from home. Excellent host, with local tips and great spot to stay - everything on Achill within about half hour. Will definitely be back!

  • We had a lovely stay at Christina's place. Christina had a warm welcome for us and had lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We didn't need for anything - she had thought of everything from complimentary toiletries to a full stash of turf if you wanted to light the stove for a cosy evening in. Location is great, a stones throw from the beach and right beside The Cottage restaurant for tasty daytime food. We will be back and would highly recommend.

    Breda2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Christina is a lovely host and so welcoming. Great advice on the local must sees and recommendations on eating out. Great location to. Would definitely stay again!

    Anne Marie2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • I can't recommend this property enough. We were a family of three (Mum and two young adults) and we found the house a perfect venue for our week long holiday. AirBnB may use the term 'Superhost' liberally, but in Christine's case it is the absolute truth; she was fantastic, with tips and advice that were really helpful. Even though the weather was on the wet side we had a wonderful holiday. With the house being a 2 min walk from the beach, we could just pop over and spend an hour whenever suited us (and the weather!). In our opinion Dugort is the best spot on the island.

    Rosina2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Christinas cottage offered everything we needed, it was the perfect base for us to explore beautiful Achill, it was also perfect spot for us to spend afternoons on the beach just next to the cottage. Christina was the perfect host, very welcoming and knowledgeable on the local spots to eat and visit, she also had left many essentials (and non essentials, chocolates etc!) And even dropped in some kids bedtime stories for our 2 small ladies! Hope to be back to this beautiful spot!

    Louise2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Christina’s. The place has everything that we needed and more (especially the Chocolates 😊). The place was just steps away from the beach and also a local pub/hotel. Christina was easy to contact and great at giving advice of place to go and eat. Overall we loved our time here.

  • We bought this as a christmas present for our mum - a family holiday away altogether - 6 adults, 3 dogs and a baby! We had the best time! We hsd to change our dates after we booked - there wasnt an issue! From this family to ours was amazing from the moment of booking until the day we left the property. The house comes with everything you could ever need...and then some! The house is comfortable and spacious, it has incredible views and Lorraine really makes it feel like a home from home! She came and met us on arrival and was on hand at all times answering texts straightaway, she could not have been more friendly, welcoming or helpful! This house is a definite break away! It is in a remote winding beautiful corner of the country, perfect for a city escape! - this does however mean its 20 mins from the nearest shop (theres a small emergency shop about 5 mins away but we found that we needed to go to the one a bit further away). Cant recommend the propety or hosting family enough! Thank you for a perfect family getaway!

  • If you want a lovely house with spectacular views and peacefulness, you won’t find better

    Myles2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house, with spectacular ocean views. The communication is excellent, and the hosts are very helpful and accommodating. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay that really exceeded our expectations.

    Anthony2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • equipped and had everything we needed. Lovely big fire in the kitchen/diner was appreciated during a stormy few days (storm Denis made its mark!) - each bedroom was lovely and spacious and we all slept like logs. Smart TV, WiFi worked liked a charm so catching up on Netflix binging was a breeze. The pool table upstairs was a great addition and the library of books meant everybody had something from the trip. Thanks a million for the hospitality and I hope to be back at a later stage to see what summer looks like in Doohoma.

  • I don’t think pictures could ever do this home or Doohoma justice. If you’re looking for a cosy and relaxed hide away this is the spot. The house itself has everything you could need, plus a pool table! And most importantly we could have our dogs with us. It’s comfortable and spacious and felt like a home away from home. Lorraine was there to meet us with a warm welcome and a “call me if you need anything” which we didn’t because she’d already messaged us everything we could possibly need to know a week earlier. The location itself is beautiful the house is basically on the beach, looking out the front windows you can see across to Achill Island to the left and Black Sod to the right (I think) Long walks with the dogs durning the day curled up by the stove listening to the waves in the evenings. Couldn’t recommend this place or the hosts highly enough.

    Jade2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • A little slice of heaven. The house is beautiful and in the most stunning location. A short walk to a beautiful beach and to delicious pints at the sea rod inn. Lorraine was our contact and made check in super easy and was always very prompt to reply. Dohooma is a hidden gem. The views from the house are unreal and there's lots to do in the area.We got the warmest welcome from the locals. Already planning our next trip!

    Marie2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay with our baby, toddler and dog. The house is beautiful and finished to a high standard. The location is simply breathtaking, the beach is so close. The games room is such an added bonus. Richie was a great host and quick to respond. The house is equipped fantastically for kids with a stair gate, travel cot + mattress, highchair and a cupboard of toys. I would highly recommend this home and we look forward to returning some day.

Our place is 100 yards from a mile-long sandy beach and Minaun Cliffs - among highest in Europe. The Toolis family have been living here for over 400 years. Keel village is 5-minute drive with restaurants, local butcher selling Achill lamb and fisherman selling from boat, and eggs from local farmer. Surf school for all ages, kayaking and watersports. Fabulous walks begin right at the door - from easy to mountain hikes. Good for couples and families with kids. Free wifi. Wheelchair accessible.
The cottage has one large double bedroom with plenty of place for clothes. The light-filled open plan living area is divided into a spacious fully equipped kitchen, dining area with table and chairs, and a living room with open turf fire and view out to sea. The whole cottage both inside and out is fully wheelchair accessible. On a fine day you can spot dolphins leaping in the water. There's a double bed in the bedroom and a small double sofa bed in the sitting room, suitable for a couple or two young kids. (There's an inflatable mattress if the kids are teenagers and don't want to share.) A cot is also available. The large tiled bathroom has an overhead shower. There's a washing machine, fridge and dishwasher.
We are only a few moments walk from the beach - either along the village road or over a style at the bottom of the garden. At low tide, you can walk into Keel in around 20 minutes. Otherwise it's a 5 minute drive to a small supermarket, restaurants, a pub, post office, pottery, local butcher for Achill lamb and a fishmonger with freshly caught fish. You can get eggs from a farmer in the village. We are right next door to a deserted village, where my husband's family lived. My husband gives tours of the village and local places of interest. Please see https://www.airbnb.ie/experiences/304820?location=clare%2C%20ireland&source=p2&currentTab=experience_tab&searchId=8836e028-ca87-4f62-a1ec-f9f36bfb81af&federatedSearchId=419651c3-b213-43fc-a1b0-0cb511e0e384&sectionId=d4721af8-f618-4734-af38-46f3025908a6 There's lots of watersports, including kayaking and kitesurfing, and an excellent surf school for children and adults. You are welcome to borrow our bikes and boogie boards from the shed. We also have wetsuits. You can take walks straight from the cottage - from easy to mountain hikes. There are many summer festivals on Achill which often include walking tours, so do look out for them. We can also let you know about local events. There are farmers markets on Friday and Saturday mornings. The Greenway - Ireland's longest off road cycle trail along a disused railway line - starts at Achill. It can be walked or cycled. There are spectacular drives along Atlantic Drive and down to Keem Bay, where you can snorkel.

The house is situated in the center of Achill Island 6 km from Keel where you have a choice of good bars and restaurants a 2 km sandy beach and also a 9 hole golf coarse and various attractions and 5 km from Achill Sound The Road side diner is 1 k from the house and the village of Cashel is only 1km from the house where the well known Lynotts thatched bar is with regular music session over the holiday period. • We arrived late at the airbnb but Catherine was here, with a big smile, to welcome us. She was delightful, showed us everything we needed in the place and told us all the good addresses. We’ve already said to her that if we come back one day on Achill Island we will book her place once again.

    Quentin2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Teach Catherine is in a great location! It is within walking distance of the supermarket, pubs, library, cafe and gift shops. As a host, Catherine is a very kind lady. The house was clean and the kettle was boiled ready for a cup of tea or coffee which was all provided. Milk was in the fridge and cereal and bread was in the cupboard. The little vase of heather on the window cill, the box of board games on the coffee table, the small touches that matter! We got such a warm welcome and the hospitality continued throughout the week with lots of clean towels provided, loo rolls replenished, bins emptied. Nothing was any trouble. It was like visiting family. A great host, we can't wait to return again to Teach Catherine.

Thank you Catherine, hope to be back again soon.

It is a small, quiet, rural village home to the acclaimed Ballycroy National Park Visitor's Centre and Ginger & Wild Cafe. We have a country style pub which provides lunchtime meals, Cafferkey's and B&B accomodation, free community playground along with a shop with petrol pumps, post office, garda station, school, Roman Catholic Church and Community Centre.

  • We tested several B & Bs during our road trip to Ireland, and without a doubt this one was the most beautiful! The hosts welcomed us as if we were from their family, the breakfast was very good, the cleanliness and especially the magic! A breathtaking view of Achill Island, no annoying neighbors, a beautiful farmhouse that we will remember for a long time!

The large bedroom and entire space was immaculate and we were provided with a lovely choice of breakfast cereals, juice, yogurts, fresh fruit , bread, tea and coffee to set us up for the day. Linda's knowledge of Achill is exceptional and she's very happy to share this knowledge with her guests. We recommend Linda's place 100% and we will return.

  • We had a very large family room with a view of the sea, comfortable beds, private bathroom, all brand new and very well equipped and furnished. Linda is a great hostess and gave us good tips. In the evening we walked 300 meters to the nearest pub, where we ate well and sat comfortably by the fireplace. We highly recommend the accommodation and would come back anytime!

  • We had a great relaxing stay at Maria's place, they even lighted the fireplace when we arrived. It is very calm there, on the other hand there is lots to explore on the island, if you have a car available.

  • Maria's house was just as the pictures showed. Well furnished, thoroughly cleaned and well maintained both iside and out. The views were fabulous and we enjoyed the silence of staying that little bit outside the town. Maria's personal touches just went beyond our expectations. Her generosity, flexibility and punctuality made our trip very relaxing. By accomodating the needs of our large group, she made a lot of people very happy. I highly recommend this house to families, groups of friends and anyone looking to experience an authentic home on Achill.
