This heritage farmhouse was built by our family in 1910 and has provided generations of enjoyment. The home is named after my aunt who maintained and grew all her own food on the property. The location is ideal;you can enjoy your day bathing at Algarve's premier beaches, or exploring nearby Olhao (4km away), Tavira or Faro and return to the farm to watch the sun set over the rolling hills and experience awe inspiring star-filled nights.
The most important features of the house have been completely renovated and the house boasts all new (March 2016) furniture and appliances.
The farmhouse is located in a rural agricultural area 4 kilometers from Olhao, 14 km from Faro international airport.
The house is semi-detached is adjoined to a newer country home, also available on Airbnb. Both houses are very private in both the front and the back.
There is a paved rock garden area in the front and back of the house. At the back of the house, there is also a barbecue and makes for a great way to spend an afternoon.
The property is on a 3 hectare farm. Currently, there is an orchard in the front of the property planted mostly with oranges, and some apple, pear, mango, avocado and other things we are beginning to experiment with. This orchard is irrigated with our groundwater and is all organic production. As for the rest of the farm, there are very old carob, almond and olive trees primarily scattered throughout with some fig trees that produce delicious figs at the very back of the property. The property is fully fenced and offers plenty of space for one to go on a walk of reasonable length all within the property boundaries.
You will be able to walk, and enjoy the 3 ha enclosed grounds, the mountain view the orchard with orange and other fruit trees which when in season you can share and enjoy the sight of many other Mediterranean trees including almonds, olives and carob trees. Of course, feel free to snack on the fruit available in season! The bedroom with the double bed leads to the rooftop with spectacular nigh time views and star gazing.
Interaction with guests
We have a self-check in procedure. We also provide a detailed guide the week prior to your arrival. It explains how to get to the farm, the self-check in and check out, as well as provides details on the house and the region. We are available by phone or email should the need arise.
Other things to note
While the house was built in 1910, the bathroom and kitchen were completely remodeled, respecting the traditional style. Other aspects of the house have been renovated this year including doors, windows, ceiling, and all the furniture is brand new this year! Appliances are also brand new (as of 2016).
We are happy to speak with you prior to your visit so that upon arrival, you will feel like you already know the place. It truly is a special destination, just far enough from town to enable you to unplug, but close enough to some of Algarve's premier beaches and destinations such as the markets of Olhao, the riverside town of Tavira and the beaches of Faro.
Please, no smoking or pets in the house. If you have a pet that smokes, this is not the place for you. Please smoke your pets outside :-)
I am Canadian, living in Washington DC, working in international development assistance in Latin America and the Caribbean. My family and I visit this ancestors' farm whenever we have a chance. It is the only fixed address I have had that dates back to childhood.
