The space

The Space: I've been renovating this house from the beginning of 2016. Living / Dinning room, 10 tatami bedroom with Futon bedding, kitchen, bathtub, and 2 toilets. This cottage was formerly used for Japanese restaurant. You can use all items in the kitchen: frying pan, kettle, microwave oven, rice cooker, plate, cutlery, condiments and some foods. It is an old private house with a cabbage roof. It was relocated to this place about 60 years ago and it reaches the present. For the last ten years I have been used as a restaurant for Japanese cuisine, and facilities such as toilets and kitchens are in place. You can use all the dishes, dishes, cups, cutlery, microwave, electric kettle and rice cooker in the kitchen. There are also a few ingredients so please use here as well. There are supermarket convenience stores and restaurants in the neighborhood so it's a convenient place for dining out and for self catering. It is about 90 minutes by express bus from Tokyo, about 10 minutes on foot from the bus stop of Tomei Gotenba Inter, and access to Gotemba Premium Outlet is also good. From this bus stop you can catch a bus from Hakone, Narita and other cities to other cities. FACILITIES: Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are provided. Fresh towels and YUKATA (casual summer kimono) provided for each guest. WiFi available. I do not have a TV. Amenities: Bath towel / Face towel / Yukata robe / Shampoo / Conditioner / Body soap WiFi Yes TV is not available.

Kosuke is an excellent host. He was very responsive in all communications, and he was warm and considerate in all of our interactions (he's also an excellent chef, if you get a chance to eat at his pizza place). The cottage itself is fantastic. It's clean and comfortable, and we loved the decor. One of our favorite amenities was an old record player and a pile of old 45s that included an array of Japanese music from traditional folk melodies through more contemporary punk. One night, after walking back from a nice dinner at a nearby soba house, we sat around the table sipping drinks and listening to music. Good stuff. One thing to note is that sleeping arrangements are futon mattresses laid out on the tatami mats. We all three slept very well this way, but if you really need a soft bed, you might need to look elsewhere. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

If you want to have a taste of Japanese life style, Kasuke's cottage is the best place to stay. It is very close to Mt. Fuji and has lots of mini markets near by. I would definitely recommend it to all travellers.

No doubt the Cottage is the highlight of our trip in Japan. My family and I really adore our gentle host Kosuke. He’s most helpful to pick us up from the bus station and see us off at the station. The Cottage is well kept, traditional (but also with air conditioning and good wifi) and all very comfortable. The neighbourhood is quiet and lovely, very convenient to access to bus to airport and Hakone, and also local supermarket and restaurant. We were happy to experience the local life for three days. We could also see Mount Fuji from the street outside the house, when the day’s clear. The mountain is magnificent. Kosuke has a cool pizza and beer bar/restaurant. My family and I visited the restaurant twice for super delicious local home-made ham pizza, flower drink and nice music. One night we went back to the Cottage by taxi. We couldn’t pronounce the cottage’s address in Japanese but the driver only spoke Japanese. But as soon as the driver saw the cottage in picture, he immediately recognised it and sang high praise for the cottage. My family and I do hope to stay in the cottage again when we visited Gotenba-Hakone next time. Obviously the area has so much more to explore. Thank you so much Kosuke-san!
