Often called “Land of the Moon” or “Land of the Hundred Castles”, La Lunigiana is a quiet corner of Tuscany rich in history, culture and nature. At the northern end of Tuscany, between the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the sea, it borders Liguria and Emilia.
All the seasons of Lunigiana have their own special character.
During the spring the hills and mountains turn green, the meadows are filled with wild flowers and the first warmth arrives in the valleys announcing the good season.
In summer the temperature rises, but is mitigated by the fresh air coming from the mountains. In this season the medieval villages are enlivened with historical festivals and village festivals where you can taste dishes based on typical products of the territory. The proximity to the sea of the Cinque Terre and the Apuan Riviera offers the opportunity to enjoy the sun and a refreshing bath and to return to immerse yourself in the tranquility of Lunigiana.
Autumn with its colorful forests begins the harvest season: chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, olives...The millenary tradition linked to the chestnut supply chain and the production of olive oil is still very much alive and gives rise to two excellent products such as D.O.P. chestnut flour from Lunigiana and I.G.P. Tuscan extra virgin olive oil Colline della Lunigiana.
In winter the proximity to the mountains and the presence of ski resorts offers the possibility of snowshoeing, skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding.
Everywhere you look in Lunigiana you can see the magical silhouettes of castles, parishes and fortified villages immersed and merged in the natural environment that has hosted them for centuries.
If you have the passion for Italy and the desire to explore the less beaten paths, this corner of Tuscany will not fail to amaze you.
The only real way to appreciate all that Lunigiana has to offer is to see it with your own eyes.
