Small town Minnesota living 30min from the Twin Cities (and Mall of America and airport), stay for a rest in a grand old Eastlake inspired Victorian home or take a walk out the door to play in town made great with community, antiques, and music. This is a vacation rental or temporary furnished lodging, cleaning and upkeep during stay is responsibility of guests.

The space

This listing and pricing is the Momma Bear room (grey paint, with Arts & Crafts style decor) with a too soft queen sized bed. This is the largest of the three rooms. Coordinate and moderate room temperature with other guests.

Price includes parking, utilities, linens, toiletries, lawn care, and snow removal. Please leave the house tidy with linens and towels washed and folded on the beds. If you need additional cleaning during your stay, it can be arranged for an additional fee. Cleaning fee pays for cleaning after your departure.

House does not accommodate pets, illicit drugs, e-cigarettes, or smoking on the premises.

Side Note: My house is on the Anoka Ghost Tour; we can talk about it if you have any concerns.

Guest access

Communal spaces include shared upstairs bathroom, parlor with gas fireplace, downstairs tv with movies, Wifi, full access to kitchen, dining room, side porch, and yard. On-site laundry available. Linens, towels, hangers, iron and ironing board, and some toiletries provided, please replace what you use up or contact host for replacement. There is no cable tv in the house.

Interaction with guests

I spend most of my time on the East Coast and am infrequently at the house. There is a house manual in the kitchen describing amenities, operations, troubleshooting - she's an old house and has some quirks. Call or text if you need anything.

Other things to note

Two driveway spaces available (coordinate with other guests for rotating driveway access).

Old house - lead paints have been painted over and/or removed but may still be in home and on the exterior.

Guest must use provided salts and shovels in winter to remove snow and prevent ice on front, side, and back steps.

We get dry air in winter, it's MN, it's cold, we recommend not getting heat upstairs too hot or will dry you out at night and get a scratchy throat, drink plenty of water.

We get musty air in house, I open windows from time to time. Hardwood floors are cold year round, we recommended slippers or thick socks. There is a long-standing single spider ration in the upstairs bathroom, I don't know how they do it but there's usually one. Smoke detectors checked every two months like clockwork - if one of them beeps, there are spare batteries in the laundry area, where there's also a first aid kit, it's a fully functional and operational home.

This was a great airbnb situation. Jessica is offsite, but in frequent contact. The house has three rooms for guests, and so the entire house's spacious accommodations are part of the whole experience. Large and very functional kitchen, complete laundry facilities, dining room, sitting or study rooms, huge living room with plenty of sofa and soft seats and a nice flat-screen TV system with Netflix etc. Outside there is a beautiful patio with tables and chairs. The bedrooms are large and well-furnished. Dressers, large closet, night stands. My stay was in the "Mama Bear" room -- and I say without irony, that bed was JUST RIGHT! Wifi included worked flawlessly. The house is old but is kept in great solid and clean condition. I had plenty of clean linens. NOTE: this is a situation where *I think* you would wash your own towels and sheets if you have an extended visit. The house is on a quiet, shady tree-lined street, and just a block and a half from Anoka's main street, where there are several coffee shops. Anoka is a really cute, quaint town with a beautiful river and park just two blocks away from the house. The house has a side driveway with room behind the house for cars for all guests to park off street. My only regret is feeling compelled to be honest about this, because I plan on staying at Jessica's house in the future, and I don't want it to become too popular or for her to raise her prices.

Jessica's home is a historic home in the heart of Anoka. It was really easy walking (5 minutes on average) to great restaurants and my favourite ice cream place (Two Scoops)! The house itself was a good size with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The bed in my room was very comfortable and probably got some of the best sleep I've had. I stayed for 30 days and I was extremely comfortable with the accommodations.

Everything was easy and straightforward with the house which is a lovely, grand old place. A very charming place. Close to everything in Anoka and easy to drive to Minneapolis.

Jessica is a lovely host and answers calls and question quickly. Pros: This house is comfortable and quiet - like staying at Grandma's. The location is excellent - Anoka is charming -(it's Garrison Keillor's hometown) and freeway access is close by so it's easy to get to the airport or the cities in about 30 minutes. Lots of space in this house! It has a large, very functional kitchen with a full size washer/dryer. There is one full bathroom upstairs with good water pressure and hot water. There's a very small half bath on the ground floor. Cons: All the systems work well but this house could benefit from some TLC and a deep cleaning. Long term guests are expected to clean the house themselves or find and pay for a cleaning service. The heat works well but is quite variable in the different bedrooms. If you are there with other guests expect to negotiate with them about setting the thermostat.

Response from Jessica:
Thank you Linnae for your feedback throughout your stay and after. I appreciate your prompting the possibility of cleaning services throughout the stay, I now have a few people to call at different price points should this come up again and for which guests would want to pay. The house is rented as more of a vacation rental where it's expected that guests will maintain the spaces in which they are living, and want to do so since the owner is not there full-time. All cleaning supplies and implements are provided. Cleaning fees are rated for shorter term stays and about an hour of cleaning services per room, which doesn't cover the common areas. The cleaning of one's own linens keeps this cost down, and the house gets cleaned in between guests so as to maintain the privacy of guests throughout their stay. Since there may be non-related individuals in the rooms, I always make sure that people are aware they may be sharing space with others, before they rent. I expect collaboration among individual adults in this more communal setting. I appreciate your input, understand the Momma Bear room is larger and may run a few degrees cooler than the other rooms. I was home the week you left, re: room, the latch on the window was better secured, vent flaps in basement were checked and optimized, and additional blankets are still available for those needing them. When I walked in, the place seemed really clean but was more thoroughly cleaned before I left. I’m glad you were able to enjoy the house and wish you all the best. It was really great working with you to try new things for the house, and consider other ways of doing things. Cheers!

I arrived right when I said I would, yet Jessica texted me to check on me, thank you! The house is historical in a beautiful neighborhood just a block from charming downtown Anoka. G's is the breakfast place! I slept well in the Papa Bear room and the bath was just across the hall. Coffee in the kitchen and a sun porch or patio to enjoy that cup. Beautiful yard, just beautiful... A pleasurable experience.

Jessica made me feel quite welcome even from afar. She made sure I had everything I needed and connected me with the other guests staying at her place. It was an easy transition to come into the house after my plane had gotten in late. The bed was cozy and comfortable and the house had good character. I appreciated the local suggestions of places to explore and the sticky notes to guide me through the unfamiliar parts of the house.

Born Upstate NY, moved about, TX, OH, NC, OH, I like small town living with the excitement of a big city nearby; walking around and knowing people, waiving, having conversation, meeting new people - all for grand adventures! I've found my small town living in Anoka, Baltimore, Wilmington - my little river/water cities, and spend time in bigger locations for new people, flavors, and adventure. I've traveled the States and Europe with Airbnb and enjoy the community, shared economy, and human commonalities.

My hobbies include travel, movies, kayaking, energy spirituality, marketing, business, cooking, photography, and writing.

When I travel I go for some novelty but also hit up one or two touristy sites. I travel for food, culture, and friends and prefer staying with friends or locals to get to know a place, to find small quality venues with local and historical character, or the perfect food item at the time...chocolate martini, beef wellington, oysters, crawfish etouffee, a great guiness pour, etc. I enjoy staying with others but at times value the flexibility of private space. I enjoy having a full kitchen or simple basics such as coffee and tea, clean linens and toiletries. I try not to spend too much time indoors and try to see as much as I can and relax when I get home; or sometimes I simply find a quiet spot by a river, take a walk, and take pictures.

I'm a warm Italian, sociable gemini with an inclination to feed anyone who comes into my home. I adore playing ambassador and helping others find just what they're looking to experience, as that's what I'd want for myself (at times). I look to provide a clean, comfortable, accommodating, and soothing sanctuary to come back to during your travels. I hope to provide an environment of freedom and flexibility with zero obligation; and hoping you will be respectful of the spaces as they are home to me.
