Welcome to my awesome country home. It's a cozy cottage near Chatham village with great activities nearby. I'm not a professional hotelier, so please understand if things aren't perfect. Think of it as your friend's really cool house in the country that you can have lots of fun in, except I don't know you and you're paying me. This is how I help pay the bills on the house, but I also enjoy hosting guests. After your visit, I hope you love this house and the surrounding area as much as I do.

The space

This little farm cottage goes back to 1877 (maybe even earlier - still doing research) when Chatham first became a railroad town. It's filled with antiques and country charm. The master bedroom has a full-size bed and sleeps two. The Treehouse attic bedroom has a trundle bed that can be arranged as one twin, two separate twins, or a king, and can sleep two. The Morning Room guest bedroom has a twin bed. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub/shower that I refinished myself. The living room has a plush couch that pulls out to sleep two, along with a large TV with a streaming box and DVD player, a record player, and a wood stove. The kitchen is fully stocked and has everything you need to cook up a feast - all the utensils you'd need, as well as basic cooking ingredients.

Outside, have the kids (or adults) run around in the one-acre yard. Feel free to have fun on the patio. You are welcome to use the charcoal grill and have dinner on the patio set. Gather wood to make a fire in the pit and sit in the Adirondack chairs, roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories.

Included with renting the house is use of some bikes, kayaks, board games, and lawn games.

The house is also business ready, with high-speed internet, a printer in the living room, and a desk in each bedroom, . But I hope that you'll get to relax and enjoy the space no matter why you're visiting the area.

Guest access

You'll have access to three bedrooms, the living room, kitchen, dining room, patio, and backyard. Off-limits are the attic, cellar, one of the closets in the master bedroom, and the laundry machines (guests who stay a week or longer may use the machines).

Interaction with guests

I will do my best to meet you personally to show you around the house. If you let me know your interests and the purpose of your visit, I'll help with some suggestions.

Other things to note

The train runs behind the property. If you're a light sleeper, you may hear it in the night. If you're a sound sleeper, you won't be bothered. Each room has a radio to help drown out the noise, and there are earplugs in the bathroom if you wish to take a pair.

I was producing an independent film shooting in Chatham and we needed housing for our actors. Michael's place was perfect. Very cozy and comfortable, clean, a great backyard, close to town, and plenty of space for multiple people. Michael was excellent at communicating everything we needed to know about the house up front and was available to answer questions throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this place! Thank you, Michael, for everything!

Great home, very welcoming. Michael really lays it all out for you. The keyless entry system is amazing, really easy and super convenient. We got some great suggestions for places to eat and drink. Chatham is an amazing little town, perfect for an escape from the city. Enjoy!

We stayed at Michael's place for while we were house hunting in the Hudson Valley. Michael was at the house to greet us when we arrived on Saturday morning (he even had coffee waiting!) and gave us a quick tour of the property, including letting us know that he was flexible on the check in/out times since there was no one arriving after us. During the few minutes that we spoke, I was able to tell that Michael is a kind and conscientious person, which made me feel good about borrowing his weekend home. It is clear that he really cares about and takes pride in his home - there were helpful notes about where to find things and it was very easy to quickly get situated -- which was important since we were traveling with a baby. I was disappointed that we didn't have a chance to hang out outside by the fire pit, but we enjoyed listening to a Springsteen record from Michael's extensive vinyl collection and dancing around the living room on Sunday morning before we left. One note for light sleepers -- the house is close to the train so you can hear them go by if there is no other ambient noise. At night, we had the a/c running -- I didn't hear a thing and our 1 year old (who, like a lot of babies, is a light sleeper) slept through the night without a problem. There was also a white noise machine in the bedroom but we didn't feel the need to use it. 10/10 I would stay here again.

Michael was an excellent host. He was very communicative and detailed in how to check in, the amenities of the house and the surrounding area. He was super helpful in recommending great restaurants and other things to do in the area. He was also very thoughtful in asking how we wanted the beds arranged according to our party size. He was delightful and helpful throughout and his house was perfect for our needs. Thanks, Michael!

Darling little house with great outside space - fire pit and a great deck out back. Perfect kitchen for home cooking with a great fresh foods market down the road. Michael is very amenable to making the stay comfortable

My boyfriend and I had a great weekend here! Michael was amazingly accommodating, helpful, and communicative starting the weeks leading up to the trip all the way through our last day there. He was always just a phone call away and eagerly wanted to answer all of my questions, no matter how small. The house itself was so comfy and cozy. The kitchen was amazing for our cooking needs and the wood stove added an extra layer of heat and character! There's a train that runs behind the house, but it wasn't a problem for us and the space heater/fan gives off a good white noise effect if it's needed. We'd love to come back sometime -- the house was so cozy, we didn't want to leave!

I teach high school history at an arts school in Astoria, NY. I like to ride my bike, see live music, go to baseball games, and go camping. I also have an adorable cottage in Chatham, NY, which I am beginning to rent out.
