Newly remodeled 1200 sq. ft, 3 bedroom, 1 bath log home, on a quiet lane, nestled among tall aspen and spruce trees, backing up to a mountain stream, with views of The Continental Divide Alpine Range from the large, front windows.

The space

Roll back to the 50's - knotty pine, original rounded refrigerator and stove, retro chairs and table, BUT wireless internet, flat screen TV's, down comforters, gas fireplace. Local art inside, and out.
The house is located approximately 8 miles from a super Walmart in Salida, and 8 miles up to Monarch Ski area, a 10 minute drive. Picture this - skiing fresh powder in the morning, lunch at the house, then back for 3 more hours of skiing. Or, cross country skiing. Or, snowmobiling, snowshoeing. You'd think this was high season, but, oh the summers! Mountain biking the Monarch Crest Trail is right outside the front door. Then, there's hiking or skiing the 13ers and 14ers. Next day? World class white water rafting or kayaking on the Arkansas River. Ghost towns, 4 wheel adventure riding, cross country horseback riding, hiking the Continental Trail or Colorado Trail. 30 minutes to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Grab a good book, chair, and head back behind the house to the Little Arkansas River for quiet time.

Creature comforts? 53in. flat panel TV in living room, 24 in. TV in large bedroom, DVD, VHS, assortment of DVD's, books, games. Satellite internet, gas fireplace, large deck with porch, outdoor gas grill, small porch in front. King sized bed, queen beds in other two bedrooms. Beds all have 400+ Egyptian Cotton Sheets, down mattress covers, down comforters, 100% Egyptian cotton towels. Front loading washer and dryer with iron.
Six people in 3 bedrooms is perfect, but if needed, there's a full pull out sofa bed in the living room.
The town of Salida is 8 miles east on hwy 50, and offers many amenities: wonderful restaurants, art galleries, live music, hot springs pool, white water rafting, pubs, horseback riding, mountain and road biking, fly fishing in the Gold Medal Arkansas river, bowling. This is a all year round paradise!

Book 6 nights, and the 7th night is free!

This was my second time at Terri's place and I was not disappointed!! It's such an adorable cabin just out of town enough to give you a relaxing stay but close enough to give you plenty to do. The beds are very comfortable and the cabin has lots of personality. I will continue to keep Terri's place at the top of my list when visiting Colorado.

We loved our stay at the Monarch Gem! The house is a beautiful step back in time. We felt at home immediately:). We spent most of our time on the big back porch relaxing, listening to the rushing river and letting our dogs play in the darling fenced in backyard. Terrie is a wonderful host and was always available for anything we needed. The house was equipped with everything we needed. All we had to do was go to the grocery store. We can't wait to continue me back!!

We had a great weekend at Terrie's house! It was exactly as described. The house was truly like something from another era, in a great way. It was very clean, and had all of the amenities we wanted. Comfy, cozy, immaculately kept, and very close to Monarch and Salida. We hope to be back again!

I highly recommend this place and hope to return soon. The home is very quaint with wonderful vintage decor. The large living room is perfect for family gatherings by the fireplace. The kitchen is a step back in time but very functional with everything you need to cook whatever you want. It's got a large washer/dryer in separate room with plenty of room to keep coats/boots out of the way. The wifi worked great and I told my husband that the tv didn't get a signal, but he realized about day 3 that it did. At least I got 3 wonderful days of no espn! Terri kept in touch with us and we had no problems. Close to Mt Shavano ski rental (best prices) and Monarch Ski Resort (buy oneline night before for best lift ticket prices). Not far from grocery stores, etc. Neighbor kept the road in shape for driving. We tried to walk to river but there is lot of fencing but still beautiful area. We hope to return here in the summertime one day. Thanks Terri!

The indoor and outdoor spaces are very peaceful and serene. The kitchen had a fantastic collection of spices for cooking! Every bed was comfortable and the entire place was very clean. Terrie was responsive, open, flexible, and thoughtful.

The Monarch Gem truly is a gem - both the location and the house itself! We had never even heard of Maysville before booking the Monarch Gem but instantly fell in love with this tiny little town along Highway 50 between Poncha Springs and Monarch. The backyard of the house backed up to the South Arkansas River which is lined with hundreds of beautiful Aspen trees. The location was tucked away and felt private and remote but was a 10 to 15 minute drive to all of the amenities of Poncha Springs (read: Elevation Beer Company) and Salida. We spent much of the weekend in the backyard and on the back deck, grilling, playing cornhole, drinking delicious local beer and just enjoying our time together as a family. We also found great hiking at the Angel of Shavano trailhead that was only 4 miles from the house. When we weren't busy exploring the area or hanging out in the backyard, we were enjoying full use of the house itself. The house is something straight out of the 1950s / 1960s and is in pristine condition. Much (if not most) of the place is original and full of character but also totally functional. The house was either incredibly well maintained over the past 50+ years or restored incredibly well. The living room was cozy and easily accommodated the six of us as we watched the Olympics on the big flat screen TV. The kitchen was also wonderful - fully stocked with all necessary cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc. During our three night stay we cooked brunch and dinner twice and the kitchen made this an easy task. I can only speak to the bedroom with the king sized bed but that bed was AMAZING. Typically when traveling we don't sleep as well but this mattress was heavenly. Some sort of memory foam but not too soft. We didn't want to leave this mattress or the Monarch Gem when it came time to check out. All in all, we highly recommend the Monarch Gem and plan to return as soon as we possibly can! Thanks for a great stay Terrie!

Response from Terrie:
Thank you, Ingrid for your positive, but honest review. I will make sure that the cupboard below the sink is FULLY stocked with TP. It's a necessity, and should not be overlooked. I will also have the bed looked at. The mattress isn't worn out, but it's quite possible that the bed support has loosened. Thank you for letting me know this! it's all about quality control and comfort. Please come back! It's a special place.
