The space

A large room is available in an airy, modern house set among bushland out of town. Pristine beaches are a walk away. The room has a queen size double bed and doors that open on to a verandah. There is the possibility of booking a large room with two single beds instead. Both can be available to extend the accommodation to 4 people. Please contact us if this is an option you are interested in. We will assume all bookings are for the room with a queen size bed unless we are told otherwise.

The rooms are in an open plan house with guest bathroom. There is a sun room which looks out over the large bushland garden. There is an artists printmaking and painting studio in the grounds with printing presses.

Kangaroos and wallabies visit the garden and the sound of birds and the ocean are ever present. We have inquisitive chickens roaming the grounds in the afternoon. There is covered parking and we are classic car friendly and touring motorbike friendly. The owner is a club member in both cases. We have a barbeque under cover.

The location is halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, 7 kms south of the nearest town. There is easy access from the Pacific Highway. We can pick up from the local station on the Sydney-Brisbane line if required. The airport is 25 minutes drive away.

The area is popular in the tourist season and offers pristine beaches, fishing, water-sports, swimming, surfing, and kite surfing. The nearby pretty town of Bellingen is known for its cafes and restaurants. A short drive into the mountains brings you to Dorrigo. Well known for the spectacular drive along Waterfall Way. This road is loved by bikies and car enthusiasts. There is a rainforest walk at Dorrigo. Train fans will find a large number of old steam locos there to photograph.

The host is internationally known artist, printmaker and illustrator and there is original artwork on the walls. Home cooked Japanese meals are available with some notice.

David and Kiyomi are wonderful hosts - hospitable and welcoming. Their home is a beautiful haven in a bushland setting - close to beaches and Urunga. The meal Kiyomi cooked for us was just sensational! We also enjoyed exploring the area with some great local tips from David.

David and Kiyomi were affable and gracious hosts who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We were treated to an exquisite evening meal. Breakfast with David's freshly baked bread, while looking out on the surrounding bush and contented wildlife, was certainly the perfect way to start the day. Highly recommended to guests looking for a tranquil setting, enhanced by the chance to view David's impressive artwork and engage in stimulating discussion. Dianne

We had a lovely time with David & Kiomi who opened their home and hearts to us. Very generous and interesting people made for great dinner conversation. Lovely walk to beach which was mostly deserted. Beautiful!

Another delightful stay with David and Kiyomi. Our family really enjoys the tranquility, lovely accommodation and spending time with our friendly and thoughtful hosts. The meal Kiyomi made us was delicious. Definitely worth it. It was a great base to visit the local area including the great beaches.

I've been an illustrator for years working in Sydney and 19 years in London. My work has appeared in all the quality newspapers in the UK and on book covers and elsewhere. I now live on 5 acres of sub-tropical bushland near a pristine beach on the mid north coast. I have a studio for painting and printmaking and most of the equipment came from 19th century London. I live here with Kiyomi and we love animals. We have a cat and some chickens and have looked after dogs on many occasions. Kiyomi is a fabulous cook.

Our joint interests are animals, the garden, travel, food, music and languages. Between us we speak 6 languages. I also like classic cars, my BMW motorbike and railways.
