Beautiful area

This home is in a scenic location.
Restored original stone barn/loft (The Studio) and adjacent farmhouse (The Cottage) fully renovated in 2009, set in mature grounds with small outdoor pool and spectacular views over Dunmanus Bay, Mizen Head and the West Cork Countryside.

The space
Many original features have been retained to create a unique and peaceful atmosphere which compliments the surrounding land and sea.

The Studio is a separate self-contained unit next to the Cottage. Inside there is a kitchen lounge area with sun room attached with sea views. The sun room has its own en suite shower room and iron day bed with trundle to form a king or twin bedroom. Upstairs is a king bedroom with sea views and en-suite shower room.

The larger Cottage next door (listed separately) has 3 bedrooms (with king, twin and singles), family bathroom and en suite shower room to the master bedroom upstairs. Downstairs is a large open-plan kitchen/living room with open fire, Rayburn range cooker and farmhouse kitchen table with seating for 4 guests, a study with single sofa bed and sun room with sea views.

Guest access
The Cottage (sleeps 6) and Studio (sleeps 4) can be rented separately or together (please ask for quote) and are self-contained, with their own parking spaces, entrances, patios and garden areas. They share use of the outdoor pool and some facilities housed in the separate garage (washer, dryer, freezer, 2 adult bikes and BBQ).

Other things to note
* The nightly rate shown on the calendar is based on a weekly stay. For shorter stays, please get in touch for a quotation as nightly rates are higher for 3 or 4 night stays. Our minimum stay is 3 nights.

** The Cottage may be let at the same time so expect to see other guests at the property. This is not often the case in the low season (September to May) so you are likely to have the place to yourselves during these months. We will advise if there are other bookings, who the guests are and which nights they are staying.

Alternatively, you may like to opt for exclusive use of both Cottage and Studio (please ask for a quote) and have the place to yourselves or to enjoy with friends and family!

Where you’ll be

Bantry, Cork, Ireland

The Sheep's Head, West Cork:
A finger of land 25 miles long and no wider than four miles, the Sheep's Head Peninsula (known locally as Muntervary or Rinn Mhuintir Bháire in Irish), is set between the blue water bays of Bantry and Dunmanus: a visually striking part of the West Cork coastline. From the stony heights of Seefin Mountain to rolling pastures and sea cliffs, the peninsula offers great land and seascapes. Laharandota is just 2 miles from the southern end, where the Sheep's Head Lighthouse clings to its jagged tip, 400 feet above the surf. Take a moment to soak in the balmy (yes, balmy!) breezes: the Gulf Stream nips Ireland along this coast, explaining the presence of palm trees in the cottage's garden as in many others.

Stroll down the lane from the Cottage directly on to The Sheep's Head Way, one of Ireland's 31 Waymarked Ways (marked trails). The Peninsula's natural wild beauty makes its 55 mile trail stand out from others and offers an exciting challenge for all keen walkers. If, however, you do not fancy yourself as a 'wild rover', there's always riding, cycling, sailing, kayaking, diving, golf, cookery classes or just a relaxing afternoon taking in the fabulous Cork countryside and sea views!

Laharandota is located on the southern side of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, about 4 miles south west of the village of Kilcrohane and 15 miles from the bustling market town of Bantry, West Cork. The propoerty is ideally located for touring the West Cork area, for walking, cycling or sailing with it's many walking routes, scenic drives, coves and bays. West Cork attractions include Garinish Island and Glengariff, the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head, as well as the town of Bantry, with its many shops, great restaurants, bars and cinema. The area is also well known for its raw natural beauty, attracting walkers, artists and anyone with a love for the outdoors to the area. Within a short drive from the property is the village of Kilcrohane, with its quay and coves for bathing, two pubs, shop and local church as well as the Sheep's Head Lighthouse and Way, which passes directly behind and in front of the cottage's gardens.

Local activities:
Diving, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, kayaking, mountain biking, cookery classes

I'm Julie, the owner of Laharandota. I'm based in London for work reasons with an adult son and two dogs. I used to organise conferences and events in Europe and switched to renovating and maintaining holiday properties. I love spending time by the sea and have another holiday home in Whitstable, Kent - Heron House - that I also rent out. It's a real privilege to have holiday homes and I like to share these wonderful old houses and coastal locations with people from all over the world. I was drawn to West Cork on a tour of Ireland back in 2006. I'm of Irish descent (the FitzGeralds & Kellys) and had visited many counties over the years, but West Cork cast its spell over me and I found myself spending a lot of time here. I ended up buying Laharandota on a very warm and sunny weekend in May 2006, on an impulse. The place was owned at the time by an elderly American Artist - Frank Russell - who'd had a small pool built and done a great job laying out the gardens. But the Cottage itself was, however, kind of ... well, falling apart! With the help of my father, a retired architect, and a great local builder, plans were drawn up and two years later the place was fully restored and transformed. The first holiday guests arrived in May 2008 and, over the last 14 years now, I've been letting it out - when I'm not there it myself. I'm still as captivated as ever by the place. The romance continues...
