Dona Rita has been a housewife and farmer all her life, a great cook; a small but strong woman that helps push the family forward. They both are great people, wonderful parents and hard workers. They have 4 daughters; Wendy a 32 year old, with extensive experience in conservation, sustainability and tourism, who dreamed since very little about having a family business to support her family; now this dream has been supported by the ‘little’ ones. Cristel (20 years old) a happy and smiling future nurse, that works very hard to support the family project, a university student and volunteer at the local Red Cross, Maria Jose (18 years old) the youngest, in her last year of high school, speaks perfect English and is always happy to talk when she comes home from school; Frania (30 years old) a young widow mother, has recently returned home with 2 children, who will fill your visit with smiles and fun moments: Emanuel (11 years old) an animal lover, he gets up at 5:30 am every morning to milk goats before going to school, he is always happy to share his passion and knowledge of animals, and finally, the little Francela (2 year old baby) that make people laugh with her games and dances. The visitors are more than welcome to spend time with the host family at their farm house; but they can also spend time at the Eco House enjoying the beautiful surroundings and relaxing.

Beautiful home, beautiful family, wonderful food, LOTS of howler monkeys, toucans, and adventure. We had a blast staying here. Kristel and her mom were delightful, thoughtful, and helpful. Make sure you take the walk to the waterfall.

We spent two nights with our two kids (12 and 16 year old boy and girl) at Wendy's exceptional eco lodge and really enjoyed it. Although we didn't get to meet Wendy personally, we had a warm welcome from her family, who told us everything we needed to know. Wendy sent a complete list of possible activities in e-mail, which her family also informed us about. There is even a printed guide book in the house. We went to Hacienda Pozo Azul for white water rafting and to La Selva OTS (Organization of Tropical Studies) - both highly recommended. At La Selva, we had a personal guide for a few hours in a special protected reserve where we saw *many* different animals. In the evenings, Wendy's mother made us wonderful dinners in the local tradition - far preferable to a restaurant! All in all, a very positive experience!

Wendy's Eco-house is the most authentic Costa Rican experience we have had while traveling here! The house is very clean, appropriately priced, and truly a tucked away oasis. Perfect for families and has a lovely kitchen to prepare meals if you do not eat with Wendy! She accommodated meals and tours for us along with experiencing and learning about Costa Rica! HIGHLY recommend!!

We spent one night at Wendy's eco house & thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The house was a grand rustic space with sustainability in mind throughout. The family are some of the nicest people we have met. They were so lovely with our 18 month old daughter & showed us their many animals which she loved! Don Rita cooked us delicious & wholesome meals for dinner & breakfast so I recommend taking this extra option. The next morning we walked about 15 minutes to the waterfall where we swam. We had the whole place to ourselves! It was magical. Highly recommend this place

The Eco-Cabin is a gem in the rain forest! The house is beautifully situated and furnished. Three of us felt as though we were rattling around in all that space; you could easily sleep 4 adults and two children there. The kitchen has everything you’d want if you care to prepare your own food. We loved bird-watching from the upstairs balcony, relaxing in the hammocks below, and meals on the front porch. Howler monkeys very audible morning and evening. We enjoyed a few meals cooked by Senora Rita – wonderful, very local food, and plentiful! Wendy’s parents don’t speak any English, but their warmth was so clear. The highlight of our entire trip was a 10 minutes’ walk through a neighbor’s land, to a waterfall and swimming hole that we had all to ourselves. It poured rain while we were swimming, and Wendy’s father brought us umbrellas (not needed, since we were swimming, but so thoughtful). Also highly recommended: the guided walk at La Selva reserve, trails at Tirimbina reserve, floating down the river with Aventuras Sarapiqui, and great food at the Soda La Casita Tipica. One thing to keep in mind – if you’re counting on guided walks with Wendy (mentioned in so many reviews), check to confirm she’ll be in town. We had to do some scrambling to plan our days, but it worked out just fine. Wendy’s sister Crystal was terrific in helping us navigate and arrange our days, although she works long hours. And that waterfall… This, for me, is what Air BnB is about – getting to know someone in the country you’re visiting – not as a customer, but as a guest.

My name is Wendy Brenes, I am 32 years girl, and a native from the country side in Costa Rica. Due to the fact that I grew up surrounded by forest since a very young age, I decided to study Eco-Tourism and combine it with the conservation of the Natural Resources. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work for non-profit organizations all my work life, as an Environmental Educator, Naturalist Guide, Marketing Manager, Volunteer and Research Coordinator, Sustainable Programs Developer.

Now I have my own sustainable project. I have created a home designed to promote environmental practices and to promote wealth distribution to local firms to the tourists who rent it.
