Nearest shops etc are Bantry Town, an eclectic and bustling market town with an abundance of independent shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Mealagh Valley above Bantry town is a stunning area for views, wildlife and open spaces, clean unspoilt air and tranquillity ensure this is a unique place to be.
Bantry Area provides a great spot for exploring The Wild Atlantic Way, Beara Penninsula, Kerry, and the West Cork Area, renowned for its unrivalled scenery and friendliness.

Car highly recommended, the apt is located 5 miles from nearest pub/retail and is 450m above sea level, so although a bike is great to swoosh down to Bantry, the return journey can leave the most ardent cyclist puffing. Access roads are narrow and twisty. Taxis typically cost €10 to Bantry town, where there are rudimentary bus links to Cork City

Steep stairs to bedrooms, uneven patio paving

Jenni's place is a bit of the track, but if your looking for a amazing retreat that's reminds you of the 1940, (it did for me), this is it...Quite, beautiful location, basic, but all the requirements are there. Great place to get away and forget about the rest of the world. Thanks for sharing your place. Kim and Sam.

The cottage is on farm outside Bantry which offers pony trekking if you are interested. We arrived in the rain late on 16th March, 2 adults, 2 kids and 1 dog. I'd read the other reviews so came prepared with €2 coins for the electric meter and kindling, firelighters and coal for the open fire. The house warmed up quickly once the fire was going. It was my first time climbing and alternating tread stairs, it's like climbing the ladder in a ship. As others have described the setup is basic, simple, yet comfortable for our family of 4. Plans to explore were put on hold due to weather so we took the kids to the swimming pool at the Westlodge Hotel and to eat at The Brick Oven (4th time in the last 3 years). The kids were fascinated by the animals including what they referred to as the dogsheep, a sheep with a collar and bell we met at the main house every day. Before we headed home we took advantage of the pony trekking which the kids loved. We're looking forward to going back in the summer when the weather is better.

The cottage was as described. We felt very comfortable but it was a bit cold although we used the heating. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. We can recommend to stay here and would stay again.

We had a great stay at the cottage. The views of the surrounding countryside were amazing and we enjoyed watching the horses with our breakfast and a small hike up the walking path from the farm with stunning views over the area. You definitely need a car to reach the cottage and around, it's about 10-15 mins drive to Bantry town. The kitchen is also decently equipped for cooking, there's a cosy fireplace too. Mind the steep stairs to the second floor, and also some barmy farm dogs. Recommended!

The view from the cottage was more than stunning and our girls enjoyed the pony trekking through the wonderful nature. we had the worst weather, but still had fun with the games and books in the cottage and felt real cozy. Thank you!
