Description

The space

Lovely attic space with timber finish & views over hills and coast. Seating area and desk along with very comfortable double bed for single/double use. Separate bathroom (shower). Wifi access and if guests want to sit with us we're happy with that too. We are a very welcoming house. Total privacy too if that's what you want.

Guest access

Exclusive use of attic space and use of kitchen to prepare light refreshments with requests for use for dinner/warm foods in line with our schedule. If guest wants to prepare a full meal, then there is a cost of Euro 5 to cover their cooking and clean-up costs. We expect the guest to clean up after meals. If they want to share our main meals, there is a cost of Euro 5 per person per meal. If you want to use washing machine - it's Euro 5 for a full load.

Interaction with guests

Happy to be with guests as our schedule allows and happy to help guests out in planning trips and occasional accompaniment if requested or suitable. We're a busy family but have always been very welcoming and love meeting new people. We have lots of friends too and if guests want to be part of our daily lives, they're very welcome to do so.

The neighbourhood

Quiet suburban neighbourhood with families and retired people. Pretty typical of small towns in Ireland but with a twist because we're a coastal community. Town is pretty, very navigable on foot, with variety for eating establishments, pubs, local shops, fresh air and very picturesque. Check out for more information. Whether you're interested in history, nature, the sea or walks - or even the local buzz and hospitality - you'll enjoy your time here. We'll always try to help you out with planning your trip if that's what you want.

Getting around

Local taxi service to/from town centre costs Euro 5 per trip, regardless of how many people. Pleasant walk to town centre but need to be careful so use of hi-visibility vest is recommended. We supply these. Bus service (Bus Eireann No. 236) to & from Cork city, more frequent in summer months. Ferry to Whiddy island (lovely walks). Town has c. 3,000 people, so is small and very friendly. Car parking in town (free) on street and car parks. Fridays are very busy due to market - best day to be here really! Loads of places to drive to every day - Beara, Sheeps' Head, Mizen Peninsulas to name but 3 destinations - you could take a day trip every day and return as late as you like.

Other things to note

We have a cat and dog who do not roam the house - they stay in certain areas only and are never allowed near the bedrooms. We have a separate door to all the bedrooms. Ample car parking at the front of the house.

I had an amazing week in Rita and robs place. It was like a home away from home..They have a beautiful loft space with a very comfortable bed that you will sink into after a long day of sightseeing in beautiful west cork. I was so well looked after from the moment I arrived till the moment I left. The breakfast really sets you up for the day, especially if you get Robs pancakes :) I could not rate the place highly enough. They are a lovely family and very knowledgeable of the local area. I'm already looking forward to my next visit in July!

Great stay. Superb hosts. The breakfast with pancakes was delicious and Rita and Rob's insightful tips on where to go and what to see were perfect. Rita works in tourism and Rob knows the local waterways very well. Highly recommended!

The house and room are at is described on the advert. The city centre is about 1.5 km from the house but there is not a problem if you travel by car. Rita and his son welcomed us in the city and lead to the house where we meet the rest of the family. We feel like we were among our family all long of our stay. Next morning Rob was extremely gently on the breakfast and cooked for us a delicious paninis.

Rita, Rob and their 2 childrens are adorable. Rita picked up us at Bantry to show the road until their house. The house and the Airbnb room is beautiful. It feels like at home. Rita & Rob are kind and very helpful. We spent a very good time with them. Moreover, the Rob's crepes are excellent :-) Thanks for all !!!

We had an excellent time at Rita's house. The room was cosy and the surroundings tranquil, meaning we had two excellent nights sleep. Josh, Rita and the entire family took such good care of us and made us feel so comfortable. Would definitely recommend to other travellers!

We are a family with 2 teenage children, living in West Cork for 16 years, for quality of life reasons. My husband is a Physical Therapist and I am a Development Professional. We are very involved in voluntary and community activity in the area and are involved in Airbnb because we can meet a wide variety of people. We love having company and we want our children to be aware of a wider world which they someday will explore as we have done ourselves in the past
